Q & A - "Antiviral" with writer/director Brandon Cronenberg
ANTIVIRAL - Brandon Cronenberg’s (yes, son of that Cronenberg) debut is set in a dystopian near future in which obsession with celebrity has reached such neurotic levels that fans get themselves injected with viruses and diseases that once lived inside their idols… Amazingly controlled and confident for a first film, Antiviral marks Cronenberg the younger as one to watch.
Playing at the 2012 Vancouver International Film Festival.
Both in terms of admissions and number of films screened (152,000 and 386 respectively in 2011) VIFF is among the five largest film festivals in North America. We screen films from 80 countries on 10 screens. The international line-up includes the pick of the world’s top film fests and many undiscovered gems. VIFF 2011 included 20 World premieres, 30 International premieres, 49 North American premieres and 40 Canadian premieres.

what if we were teammates of 19 years who said things like "i remember watching you play in latvia, thinking how lucky i was that i was going to be your teammate" and "sid saved me" and "only for pittsburgh, always with sid" and "i just always liked him from the start. always have. always will"... and we were both boys
(and what if sports reporters wrote alpha/alpha romance about us. what then.)
#i'm sorry but the new r*ssi article? he was a man on a mission during the interviews: “at the start we were like WHO is going to knot WHO”#him: “the penguin's two alphas” me: ben affleck smoking.jpg#also i usually tune out halfway through his podcast but this episode was excellent highly recommend a listen#anyway sorry niche content but this is my favourite type of post to make :')#hm#gay#sidney crosby#evgeni malkin#sidgeno#pittsburgh penguins#hockey#long post

Archive replacement for broken link
Post body:
“When I first approached Eric to do the score, I had a vague idea that it should incorporate electronic and acoustic instrumentation. It turned out he had been doing some interesting experiments along these lines with a musician named Michael White, who owned a large bank of analog synthesizers, like a fantasy version of an old telephone operator’s switchboard. The two of them had been running orchestral chords through these synths and deforming them, and the results were very exciting… The process was unpredictable and experimental.” — Brandon Cronenberg, Director of Antiviral
In the film Antiviral, a celebrity-obsessed society desires viruses and pathogens that come from famous people. Illness is a commodity. The Lucas Clinic makes its money collecting and selling viruses to the public.
Syd March, excellently portrayed by Caleb Landry Jones (Twin Peaks, Get Out), is an employee of the Lucas Clinic who makes money on the side by smuggling samples of pathogens in his own body to distribute on the black market.
Syd becomes infected with a particularly nasty and deadly contagion he collects from celebrity sensation Hannah Geist (Sarah Gadon). Syd races against time to find a cure while being hunted down by those who want his infected blood.
E.C. Woodley’s score features dark ambient tones and strange electronic sounds with treated piano pieces interspersed. Released in 2013, the album was somewhat ahead of its time, considering the popularity of today’s dark analog experimental electronic scores such as Mac Quayle’s “Mr. Robot”, Kyle Dixon & Michael Stein’s “Stranger Things”, and Adam Wingard’s Blair Witch.
Listen to “Syd Shoots Up,” “Hallucinations,” and “Running” from E.C. Woodley’s score:
Brandon Cronenberg continues:
“Eric and I went through the film from start to finish, discussing what the music should accomplish in both theoretical and specific terms. We decided given the subjective nature of the story that it should be consistently internal, reflecting what was going on in the protagonist’s head rather than what was going on around him. It should be something bodily, sometimes an elevated pulse, sometimes an expression of pain or sickness or bliss.”
Antiviral (Original Motion Picture Soundtrack) available digitally on iTunes. Also available on compact disc.

People when a character is aromantic or aromantic coded: Wowie! They’re aroACE! Because they aren’t interested in romance! Look at how aroace they are!
People when a character is aroace or aroace coded: Isn’t it cool that this character is asexual? Asexual icon! They’re such great asexual representation :)
#aro#aromantic#ace#asexual#aroace#alloaro#it feels like there’s this weird mindset of#if a character is aro then they MUST be ace too#and if they’re aroace then the ace part is all that matters!#and of course aplatonicism is never even mentioned as a possibility in fandom spaces (even with characters like Saiki who is apl coded af)#hell. even with real life people who have come out as aromantic#if someone comes out as aromantic they’re assumed to be asexual as well#and if someone is openly aroace it’s very common that people emphasize the ace part over the aro part#and while I get that some people do talk more about their asexuality than their aromanticism#it’s still weird to me that like#for example#Yasmin Benoit is one of the most prolific aromantic activists AND one of the most prolific asexual activists#yet I rarely ever see people mention that she’s aromantic or aroace. Everyone always just says “oh she’s asexual” and leaves it at that#her aromantic activism seems to just get ignored even with how much of it she’s done#when trying to find news sources talking about aromanticism for a research project about half of them were interviews#with Yasmin Benoit! she’s done so much work for the aromantic community#yet even in her Wikipedia article which describes her as an “asexual and aromantic activist” in the very first sentence#the section on her activism doesn’t include the words aromantic or aromanticism even ONCE.#like. yeah she does emphasize her asexuality a lot more than her aromanticism. but her aromantic activism should be acknowledged too

25/03/22 9-1-1 boss on that Buck and Eddie revelation — and that shocking character return: 'You'll see him again'
And why now address the nature of Buck's connection to Eddie?
For me, whether Tommy is right in his suspicions or not sort of doesn't matter.... Tommy is the person to bring up that subject more than anyone else on the show, because Buck is unnaturally dependent on his friendship with Eddie. He puts a lot of himself into that, and it takes up a lot of space in his id, and in his world. And so I think it would just be natural for the guy's boyfriend to be like, "You're really tight with that handsome friend of yours, and I think you might have a thing for him." And it was also important for me to have Buck say, "Look, I don't have to sleep with everyone I have feelings for, and I don't have to have feelings for everyone I sleep with," which is a direct reference to who Buck was in the first season or so.
25/03/23 Is Buck In Love With Eddie? Oliver Stark Unpacks 9-1-1 Season 8 Episode 11's Long-Awaited Storyline
Buck does say, "I don't have to want to sleep with everyone I have feelings for." What did he mean by that?
Oliver Stark: To be honest, me and Tim went back and forth a little bit on how intentional that choice of wording was and how mean Buck is. Because the line is, "I don't have to sleep with everyone I have feelings for, and I don't have to have feelings for everyone I sleep with."
And I think we kind of found a middle ground where there is some conscious thought into what he's saying there, but it's not meant to cut him too deep. It's just coming from a place of being defensive because he's had this thing leveled at him of saying that Eddie is competition, and it just caught Buck off guard a little bit. And I think that his defense to that is to try and knock Tommy off guard at the same time.

Ask and ye shall receive...
For context y'all I wrote a 30+ page thesis about vampires, a piece I've been uhhh more than a little obsessed with for the last little bit. But it's done now!! And it's exciting!
Anyway I DID manage to fit "lizard fashion" into it on page 31 (footnote) and if you find every vampire pun I made, you get a prize (your own self satisfaction and my unending delight)
