Not that anyone asked but I feel like I should weigh in on the Canada soccer updates from today also if you disagree with me don’t try and start a fight on my post or in my inbox I’m happy to have a discussion but be respectful
This appeal was inevitable, regardless of whether the spying happened or not Canada soccer was going to appeal. Every time a team or an athlete gets sanctioned they are going to appeal on the off chance that it gets reduced, I see a lot of people saying it’s ridiculous and disrespectful to appeal and I honestly don’t think it is, them appealing doesn’t mean they’re saying “we’re innocent” or saying “cmon let this go” it’s them saying “hey maybe we’ll get lucky and this will get reduced it’s worth it shot and it doesn’t hurt to at least try”
I’ve already stated I think the sanctions were too harsh, I’ve seen people saying that Canada should get no points from the NZ game and the ioc should treat the game as a forfeit (ie NZ gets 3 points and the “win”) and I agree, that’s the way similar cases are treated and that’s the way this one should be as well, which is what I’m assuming the basis of the appeal will be. The ioc is punishing Canada for the drone incident against NZ but also for the reports and claims of spying that happened previously, which is what the issue is. There has been no complete investigation on the spying (because it’s just now starting to come to light and there’s years worth of evidence to go through) that investigation won’t be completed for months at least and the ioc and fifa will dole out whatever punishments and sanctions they see fit once the investigation is completed and its findings are reported. The ioc should not be allowed to punish Canada more harshly than it would another team based on what is currently just rumours or unsubstantiated claims. Canada soccer will get sanctioned again later, I’m not arguing they shouldn’t be sanctioned, to be clear if they have been cheating they should and will get punished. At these current Olympics they should only be punished for what they got caught for at these current Olympics, which was spying on New Zealand. There is no substantiated proof or completed investigation on any other spying done in the past and until there is, the ioc and fifa can’t punish them for it
I know you all hate it but the fact is Canada soccer will get sanctioned for whatever cheating/spying they’ve done in the past, they just shouldn’t get punished for it at these Olympics when there has not been time to investigate the claims coming from Canada soccer right now. And to everyone saying they’re making an example of Canada to discourage others, a reduced sanction at these Olympics won’t tell other teams it’s okay to cheat, because Canada soccer is going to get hit hard in a few months when the investigation is over. Canada soccer is not getting off easy, the ioc and fifa are going to gather evidence over the next several months so they know the exact scope of the problem so they can sanction them as much as they deserve

British Columbia’s police watchdog has launched an investigation into the RCMP’s handling of alleged threats made five months ago against Tatjana Stefanski, who disappeared from her home in the B.C. Interior in April and was later found dead. The Independent Investigations Office said in a release Friday it was probing the police response to a December 2023 incident in Lumby, in which the Lumby and Vernon RCMP detachments received a report “indicating concern for the safety of a woman.” It said the woman was found dead on April 14. “The IIO investigation will now seek to determine what if any role police action or inaction may have played in the woman’s death,” said the statement, which did not identify Stefanski.

I'm posting this here because I saw this article I've attached below, and I wanted to talk about it. There's 30,000 online signatures supporting a life imprisonment over the death penalty for Wilson, and MANY letters imploring the judge to let this monster live. I didn't get into details about what this violent man did, and like I said in my video -immense CW to folks for what he did to Diane Ruiz and Kristine Melton because it is horrific, cruel, and gruesome.
Many women on booktok have romanticized this serial murderer below. They have made thirst trap videos and mock book covers, and also have been saying they can 'fix' this man and that he is just 'misunderstood' in the comment sections. Now, I am a prison abolitionist -because the ENTIRE prison industrial complex is despicable and must be dismantled because there is too high of a percentage of people who are incarcerated and criminalized are racialized and poor -among many intersectional elements. And the horrendous conditions in these prisons, as I have spoken about on my page here -need to be spoken about more.
What I want to call out/to address is the REASON why people are calling, messaging, and demanding a 'lesser' sentence -because he's been sexualized online. And I wanted to say SHAME on those who have been asking for leniency for this monster below because you think he's 'hot.' This man is a murderer -he's a white supremacist and has shown zero remorse for what he did -his father was the one who called him in because he did not care what he did to those women. And I know there's usually never justice in the halls of justice -and we can unpack the entire system -but PLEASE for those who are sending in letters -your moral compass is broken and you seriously need to touch some grass.

(CNN) — What was supposed to be a 10-hour journey to the Titanic shipwreck ended in tragedy, with all five passengers on the missing submersible killed in a catastrophic implosion.
Their deaths were confirmed Thursday, concluding a week-long search for survivors that was closely watched around the world.
The US Navy detected a sound that would match an implosion on Sunday, the day it went missing, and search teams have since found fragments of the Titan submersible, confirming those on board have perished.
But many questions still remain as authorities continue searching for debris, including when the implosion happened and what exactly went wrong with the sub.
Here’s what we know so far.
What is a catastrophic implosion?
An underwater implosion refers to the sudden inward collapse of the vessel, which would have been under immense pressure at the depths it was diving toward.
It’s unclear where or how deep the Titan was when the implosion occurred, but the Titanic wreck sits nearly 13,000 feet (almost 4,000 meters) below sea level.
The submersible was about 1 hour and 45 minutes into the roughly 2 hour descent when it lost contact.
Tumblr media
At the depth the Titanic rests, there is around 5,600 pounds per square inch of pressure – several hundred times the pressure we experience on the surface, according to Rick Murcar, the international training director at the National Association of Cave Divers.
A catastrophic implosion is “incredibly quick,” taking place within just a fraction of a millisecond, said Aileen Maria Marty, a former Naval officer and professor at Florida International University.
“The entire thing would have collapsed before the individuals inside would even realize that there was a problem,” she told CNN. “Ultimately, among the many ways in which we can pass, that’s painless.”
Experts say it is unlikely any bodies will be recovered.
The US Coast Guard said Thursday it will continue the search in an effort to recover what it can but warned it was “an incredibly unforgiving environment down there on the sea floor.”
What’s next for the search effort?
Besides searching for the passengers, authorities will also continue to search the sea floor in hopes of discovering more information about what led to the implosion.
It will take time to put together a specific timeline of events, the US Coast Guard said Thursday, calling the underwater environment “incredibly complex.”
So far, they have located the Titan’s nose cone and one end of its pressure hulls in a large debris field, and the other end of the pressure hull in a second, smaller debris field.
“What they would do now is go back to that site and, like cookie crumbs, try to find a trail as to where that would lead,” said Tom Maddox, CEO of Underwater Forensic Investigators, who took part in a Titanic expedition in 2005.
He added that the debris pieces could still be “slightly buoyant” and be carried further away by ocean currents.
“So the big project right now is going to be trying to collect those parts,” he said.
“They’ll mark them, they’ll indicate where they were, and they’ll lay out a map of where those parts were found.”
What is the timeline of the disaster?
Tumblr media
The expedition set out from Newfoundland, Canada, on June 16, with the Polar Prince support ship carrying participants to the site of the Titanic wreck.
Then on Sunday, June 18, the five passengers began the dive in the submersible, launched from the support ship, which remained on the surface.
They began the dive around 9 a.m., with their last communication to the surface at 11:47 a.m, according to Miawpukek Maritime Horizon Services, which co-owns the Polar Prince.
They were expected to resurface at 6:10 p.m. but were not seen; authorities were notified at 6:35 p.m. and the rescue operations launched, according to Maritime Horizon.
There seemed to be a brief window of hope after reports emerged that search teams on Tuesday heard banging every 30 minutes, though they were unable to locate the source of the noise.
But the submersible had only been equipped with 96 hours of oxygen, setting Thursday as a key target to locate and retrieve the submersible.
By Thursday afternoon, authorities confirmed the submersible had imploded, saying there does not seem to be a connection between the banging noises and where the debris was found.
A senior US Navy official told CNN the noises were likely some form of natural life or sounds given off by other ships and vessels that were part of the search effort.
It’s still not clear when exactly the vessel may have imploded.
The Navy detected a sound that was “consistent” with an implosion on Sunday, but it was determined to be “not definitive,” so the search for survivors or remains of the vessel continued.
The US Coast Guard said on Thursday it had set up sonar buoys in the water for at least the last 72 hours – meaning from at least Monday onward – but they did not record any sign of an implosion.
Who was on board?
Tumblr media
The five men on board included the CEO of the tour operator, a British businessman, a renowned French diver, and a Pakisatani billionaire and his son.
OceanGate Expeditions, the Titan’s operator, said Thursday it believed CEO Stockton Rush and the other passengers to be “lost,” adding that the company’s employees were “exhausted and grieving deeply over this loss.”
Rush, 61, founded OceanGate in 2009 with a stated mission of “increasing access to the deep ocean through innovation.”
In a series of interviews, Rush said he believes deeply that the sea, rather than the sky, offers humanity the best shot at survival when the Earth’s surface becomes uninhabitable.
As CEO, Rush, who graduated from Princeton in 1984 with a degree in aerospace engineering, oversaw the company’s “financial and engineering strategies” and provides a “vision for development” of crewed submersibles, according to his bio.
But in his eagerness to explore, Rush often appeared skeptical, if not dismissive, of regulations that might slow innovation.
British businessman and adventurer Hamish Harding was also on board.
Based in the United Arab Emirates, he was the chairman of Action Aviation, an aircraft brokerage – but was better known for his various expeditions.
He was part of a flight crew that broke the world record for the fastest circumnavigation of the globe via both poles;
He was one of the first people to dive to the Challenger Deep in the Pacific Ocean, widely believed to be the deepest point in the world’s oceans;
He went to space on the Blue Origin flight; and
He was part of two record-breaking trips to the South Pole.
French diver Paul-Henri “PH” Nargeolet had decades of experience exploring the Titanic.
He served as the director of underwater research at RMS Titanic Inc., the company that has exclusive rights to salvage artifacts from the ship.
According to his biography on the company’s website, Nargeolet completed 35 dives to the Titanic wreck and supervised the recovery of 5,000 artifacts.
He also spent 22 years in the French Navy.
In a statement, his family called him one of the greatest deep-sea explorers in history, adding:
“But what we will remember him most for is his big heart, his incredible sense of humor and how much he loved his family.”
Lastly, Shahzada Dawood and his son, Suleman Dawood, were from a prominent Pakistani business family.
Dawood Hercules Corp., their business, is among the largest corporations in the country, with a portfolio spanning energy, petrochemicals, fertilizers, information technology, and food and agriculture.
In a statement online, the family patriarch Hussain Dawood and his wife, Kulsum Dawood, said:
“Please continue to keep the departed souls and our family in your prayers during this difficult period of mourning.”

As Natalie applies the eye drops to Nick's eyes, he says, You're in the way. Natalie answers, Oh, honestly, you kids get yourselves into all kinds of trouble. Nick asks, Me and Lisa? Natalie says, Yeah, but don't worry, she'll bounce back better than you have over Daniel. Nick says, Well, it's too late to change what happened to Daniel, isn't it? Natalie asks, What did happen to Daniel? Lisa interrupts and says, Nick, Natalie this is my dad. Nick greets Lisa's dad with a handshake and says, Mr. Cooper, I've heard a lot about you. Natalie greets Mr. Cooper with a handshake and says, How do you do? Lisa tells her dad, Me and Nick solved the case together. Lisa's dad chuckles. Lisa says, I'll go say goodbye to Schanke.

Carleton University is using undercover private investigators in unmarked cars to conduct covert surveillance targeting contract instructors and teaching assistants on picket lines as their ongoing strike enters its second week. The presence of anti-union private investigators near picket lines was first reported by The Charlatan, the university’s student newspaper. The Ottawa university later confirmed it hired the private security firm Xpera to monitor picket lines. Carleton University spokesperson Steven Reid declined to provide any details to PressProgress about the public institution’s use of anti-union private investigators, including details about the scope or monetary value of its contract with Xpera.

"WHITE MICE CARRIED CONVICT'S MESSAGES," Daily British Whig (Kingston, Ontario). October 21, 1920. Page 2. --- Penitentiary Inmates Have a Complete System of Telegraphy. ---- In view of the combined efforts of the convicts at the penitentiary to create a disturbance by yelling and hooting in the cells, citizens have been wondering how they carried out a system to bring it all about.
It is claimed that the convicts in the "pen" have a complete system of tapping or telegraphy, by which they communicate with each other, and it is carried on with great success, in spite of the efforts of the prison authorities to put a stop to it. Sometimes the tapping is carried out on the walls, or their tin drinking cups, but it is known for a fact that convicts have communicated with each other in this way, and that many a scheme has been carried out as a result.
It is stated that some few years ago, several of the convicts had white mice as their pets and that the mice were used to carry messages to and fro among the convicts. This may appear as a fairy story, but it is vouched for, by people in a position to know. Needless to say there are no white mice in the penitentiary to-day.
