it's not that white liberal feminists truly believed the hijab is honorable, empowering, and a choice, it's just that they care more about "political correctness" than women's rights
Not only the hijab represents purity culture for the middle eastern/muslim woman but it clearly sexualizes every inch of a woman's body, contrary to popular belief. It imposes that unless a woman is covered, she is inherently sexual. And not just her hair, her arms and her legs, in some cases her feet, her face, her hands, and even her eyes. Even the outline of her body has to be concealed because there is always a man who will find it enticing, and this from the ripe age of 9. No matter how inconvenient it is. Not to forget, women are always to some degree pressured if not forced into this "choice" lest they bring shame to their family. How many arab girls have grown up hearing "You can do whatever you want, just keep a hijab on your head."? How many girls have been scolded, threatened, hit, because they were merely talking to a boy? How many girls were forbidden to go to school, to go out of the house until they abandoned their "westernized ideas" and started "dressing decently"? And how many were killed, charged with prostitution, stoned for not not wearing it?
Now, you want to convince me that libfems, the same group that wants to "free the nipple", thought the hijab was empowering for the last decade? Hell nah.
They just don't care. They don't care because they view middle eastern, brown, and Muslim women as lesser. Our suffering and our objectification are nothing compared to their inconvenience. So why would they even think about it? Why would they upset conservative muslim men and women ? They have been overlooking every honor killing for years now to not make muslims look bad.
Today it's trendy to oppose forced hijab, tomorrow, they'll forget about us.
I don't see a lot of people advocating for Iranian peoples freedom right now and I don't want it to be swept under the rug.
Earlier last month Jîna Emînî (You might've heard about her with her legal name Mahsa Amini) - a Kurdish-Iranian woman got arrested by Iran's so called 'morality police' for wearing the mandatory hijab 'incorrectly'.
Following her arrest she died, officials said it was because of a sudden 'heart attack' but autopsy shows that she had injuries on her head suggesting she was beaten up...BEATEN UP.
Eventually the Iranian people started protesting this and the mandatory hijab, risking their lives on the streets. There's been shootings/tensions in cities and a major University of Iran.
A 16-year-old Iranian girl named Nika Shakarami vanished after being taken into custody by the regime this week.
It's also been reported that Iran's government has cut off Internet access.
These are just a few examples of many.
Support Iranians, be the voice that Iranians need you to be right now, speak up for them.
Iranians are more than welcome to correct or add on.
As a kurdish woman it breaks my heart, may they rest in peace and may the Iranian people gain their freedom they've been denied for over 40 years.
WARNING: this post will basically be a rant about the current events happening in Iran. If that's a trigger for you, keep scrolling.

okay. so. we all know what's been happening in Iran. Mahsa Amini, a 22 year old woman, was killed by morality police for not wearing hijab. protests have ensued, Iran's government is cracking down even more on its citizens.
now. i am very well aware that iran is called the "islamic republic of iran", but there is something you need to understand.
these people are NOT muslim. they are NOT following the rules and guidelines of the religion and are actively doing things that are strictly prohibited by the religion.
According to islam, we are NOT allowed to force our religion on others. in our holy book (which, if these people were actually muslim, they'd follow it) there is a specific verse that says this:
"لكم دينكم ولي دين"
the direct translation of this verse is "To you your religion, and to me my religion."
islam instructs us that we are not allowed to force someone into the religion, just like others shouldn't force their religion onto us.
islam also tells us that even though hijab is considered a fard (a mandatory thing to do), you CAN NOT force a woman to wear the hijab. wearing or not wearing a hijab is purely the girl/woman's choice and her choice alone. no man, let alone government, should be allowed to mandate it.
what im trying to make clear is this:
These people are NOT muslim. They are NOT following what the religion of islam preaches.
Islam is a religion of peace. It is meant to be a mercy to mankind.
What the government is doing in Iran is NOT islam.
So please, don't immediately attack the religion, attack the people who are twisting and altering the religion into something horrible.
NOTE: to make it even more clear, I completely condemn myself from the actions of the Iranian government. Being a muslim myself, I want it to be known that this is not my religion. Not in the slightest. My heart goes out to all the people in Iran suffering under this tyrannical leadership.
How did we, as a society fail so bad that this day had to be brought upon us? Why do their still exist regimes like Iran and Taliban Afghan where women’s basic rights are subject to their male gaurdian’s discretion? What the fuck?
Don't tell me yall are already "bored" of Iran's protests?? Why the hell is it not trending, and @staff why won't yall put it in the Stuff We Care About tag category? Yall put Palestine (it still should be there honestly, idk why yall think having eyes on middle eastern countries are just trends).
screw the islamic republic of iran. how it has marginalized it's own people, genocided them, and pushed them to the edge. screw the way it has spread it's ideology among the rest of the middle east, radicalizing every smallest shia community for food scraps and militarized them for their own benefit, alienating them from their own cultures and countries. screw the enforced hijab. the islamic police. sharia law and the clergy. may every single organization they built burn to the fucking ground, from hezbollah to their own government. these organizations thrive on the marginalization and brainwashing of women and could not exist without it. and screw the women that support the oppression, murder of their sisters and daughters and thrive from it. nothing makes me angrier. and nothing makes me more proud than the iranian women standing in protest.
October 3, 2022 - Protesting Iranian schoolgirls kick their pro-government school director out of their schoolgrounds. Students across Iran have been occupying their schools in protest after the death of Jina Mahsa Amini. [video]
A protestor interrupts a match at FIFA World Cup 2022 in Qatar repping several social and political issues.
His t-shirt had two messages, "Save Ukraine" and "Respect for Iranian woman". He also waved a flag in support of LGTB+, which has been banned in Qatar.
Correction: The flag is in fact a peace flag, which uses a similar rainbow design as that of the LGTB pride flag. The word "PACE" is printed on it meaning "peace" in Italian.
