ENHYPEN DR. THE INTERNATIONAL DREAM GIRL.

THE INVITATION…

REI, the only female member of the American based K-pop group, ENHYPEN, is the global it girl. With her killer fashion sense, trendsetting abilities, insane range of vocals, versatile songwriting and producing abilities, there is no doubt she’ll leave her mark on this generation.

IN THAT DREAM,

Born as Reilly Iris Evermore on March 1, 2002, in Brisbane, Australia, Rei grew up in a big family. Raised in Brisbane, she was often at the beach surfing or swimming, on her family’s farm tending to the animals, or shopping with her siblings.

At the age of nine, her hobby for swimming shortly morphed into her dream of becoming an olympic swimmer. She proved this dream was very serious to her as she placed as the best swimmer on her schools swim team within the next six months. According to Rei, she grew up loving to stay busy so while juggling school and being on the swim team, she also pursued her love for dance after enrolling in a local dance studio at the age of ten. In the same year she also began writing songs with her sister, famously known as Lexi Jayde.

Rei’s love for songwriting and music definitely came from her parents because they were always playing music, no matter the occasion. Singing in the car, dancing at the dinner table, putting on concerts in her family’s living room, and even singing while tending to the farm was something Rei grew up around and also doing. She’d always gotten positive comments on her voice but decided she wanted to be even better at the age of twelve, so she asked her parents if she could get vocal lessons. Rei stated the lessons made her more confident in her singing abilities and broaden her range of songs she could sing.

In 2017, she along with her childhood best friend and member, Jake Sim, realized they wanted to pursue music after watching BTS perform at the American Music Award’s. After this, Rei attended her dance classes, singing lessons, and continued songwriting more frequently.

WHAT VISION AWAITS?

In 2018, Rei was named the youngest olympic gold medalist after winning first place in the women’s 200 meter freestyle swim at just sixteen. Praised for her performance and humbleness, Rei, known then as Reilly Evermore, was a name known all across Australia.

In 2019, Rei announced she would be leaving her swimming past behind and reaching for a new dream in music. Rei worked hard in both dance and singing classes for months while also working towards graduating. In May 2020, a few weeks after graduating from high school, Republic Records announced they would be holding global auditions for a global K-pop group they’d be forming.

Naturally Rei auditioned and passed. She beat 998 other Australians who auditioned. You may be wondering who the other person who passed was and that would be none other then her childhood best friend, Jake Sim. Rei and Jake flew to Los Angeles a week after getting the news of passing their auditions. In Los Angeles, they met the other members, Heeseung, Jay, Sunghoon, Sunoo, Jungwon, and Riki.

After training for three months to test their chemistry and skills, they started working towards their debut with the label. After two months of preparing their release and themselves, ENHYPEN debuted on November 30, 2021.

BURNING BRIGHT, ACROSS THE WORLD…

Their debut EP, BORDER : DAY ONE, skyrocketed in sales after their TV debut on The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon. Their choreography along with their vocals for the title-track, Given-Taken, stole the hearts of fans and non-fans alike. Fans were very intrigued by the group because while all the members had their specialities, which were showcased during their documentary, Walk The Line, they all shined bright on stage, together.

With their second release, BORDER : CARNIVAL, in April 2022, ENHYPEN dived deeper into their vampire concept which drew more people in. Their sales heightened even more and have continued to do so ever since. In 2023, ENHYPEN attended and the 64th Annual Grammy Awards. In the following year they won their first Grammy for Best New Artist then performed their latest song at the time, Future Perfect (Pass The Mic). On April 12, 2025, ENHYPEN performed at Coachella and achieved the second highest YouTube livestream numbers for the festival with 250,000 total viewers.

Starting in August, they will embark on their second world tour, “Fate”, which will cover North and South America, Europe, Asia, Australia, and Africa.

OH, I LEAVE QUITE AN IMPRESSION!

Rei has continued to prove just how determined she is while being in ENHYPEN. She has helped write and produce all of the groups songs and has even helped write and produce for other artists such as Tate Mcrae, Sabrina Carpenter, Olivia Rodrigo, Gracie Abrams, Boys World, Chappell Roan, FLO, and Addison Rae.

Rei being known as the best songwriter and producer in Hollywood and as the global it girl, has artists, fans, and even non-fans praising her left and right. While her talents are show-stopping, so is her face card. Brands have been after Rei since she debuted but she didn’t accept her first brand deal until May 2021 with Calvin Klein. Since then she has stacked up brand deals with Miu Miu, Louis Vuitton, Vivienne Westwood, Coperni, Chanel, and rhode.

Talents and looks can only get you so far, so what about her personality? That of an angel. Ask anyone! Dubbed “Nation’s Best Friend”, Rei is noticed for treating others with such kindness as if she’s known them for years. She also gained this title by being connected with so many celebs and each of them having nothing but nice things to say about her. This coincides with her title, International Dream Girl, which she’s had since debut. It sparked by fans and artists across many different platforms saying they were automatically drawn to Rei, and that the atmosphere around her was beautifully alluring and beyond anything they’d ever seen.

Rei’s love for music has taken her a long way from her family’s farm in Brisbane and although music wasn’t her first love it certainly is her last along with a certain member of her group, but we’ll save that for later.

I am in the process of rewriting an abandoned WIP I started in 2020 and have been thinking about ever since! Originally called, Nights Spent with a Somniphobe, the new fic will be the same concept set with our cast of characters a bit older, (un)wiser, and so dreadfully oblivious. ;)

PRIMADONNA ( KR: 프리마돈나 ), also known as DIAMOND GIRLZ, is an eight membered girl group under STARBORN CREATIVE. The group was originally known as TEEN IDLE, a twelve membered pre debut girl group that trained together for three years before sudden lineup changes. Former EMPHASIS member CHAEWON was added in early 2019, barely a year after signing with STARBORN CREATIVE after her departure from ANGELICO ENTERTAINMENT, giving the pre debut group much more attention, but also costing them three of the members, who decided that they were done waiting for a chance to debut and left STARBORN CREATIVE a few weeks later.

In early 2020, former ITZY member SOHYEON, who left both the group and JYP ENTERTAINMENT shortly after debut, would join STARBORN CREATIVE and be placed in the lineup, costing TEEN IDLE two members, bringing the lineup down to eight. TEEN IDLE changed their name to PRIMADONNA, and to this day, have remained the same with growing popularity.

favorite 20th century book, 21st century book, song of the past week? <3

ooh I was just talking to my sister about this but if there were a goodreads bot like that spotify bot that judges your music I would 100% get "you're too trendy for your own good" because I rarelyyy read books written before 2000 (or even like. 2020 most of the time unless it's non fiction in recent years tbh) lmao 😭 I really liked ponniyin selvan and animal farm. rk narayan's stuff and satyajit ray's feluda stories are iconic obviously. malory towers was my favourite series growing up and it'll always have a special place in my heart. i havent finished them yet but i feel like the joy luck club and annie on my mind are shaping up to be favourites too <3

21st century is HARD bro i have too many i can't pick just a few faves:') history is all you left me is my all time comfort book. i adore so many of kelly loy gilbert and adiba jaigirdar's books but if i had to choose i'd say when we were infinite and hani and ishu's guide to fake dating. the hunger games series is iconic. black iris and cam girl by elliot wake. these letters end in tears by musih tedji xaviere is a new favourite and i will never leave you by kara a kennedy just blew me away yesterday <3

The Unnamed Pro Europe PM from the Longest Night has been welded with Tony Blair

The Torchwood Encyclopaedia claims that Denise Reilly succeeds Brian Green, since the next PM chronologically is ‘Unnamed Female PM from BF Silence Audios’ these have been welded together.

Actual dates of Kenneth Le Blanc and Unnamed Female PM are unknown, but are set in the UNIT audios between Power of Three (2012-2013) and DotD (2013).

Felicity and Fiona are given as PMs in Aliens Among Us and God Among Us (Torchwood S5 and S6) released and presumably set in 2018 and 2019 respectively.

Eight gives the PM list as Heath -> Thorpe -> Williams -> Thatcher -> Major -> Blair -> Clarke in Interference, this is not supported as a direct list by other sources, though I tried to fit it as best I could, resulting in Blair having two non-adjacent terms.

The President given in 2004 is referred to by the nickname ‘Chuck’ in Cat’s Cradle: Warhead which combined with the fact Springsteen was the President in 2003 and ‘Norris’ succeeded them suggests that the 2004 President was Chuck Norris.

The President in 2006 was implied to be George W Bush based on Harriet Jones’s dialogue. He was previously stated to be President in 2000 (Which he hadn’t been in real life)

Clinton is stated to be President in both 1997 (by metaphor in Placebo Effect) and in 1999 (in Rosa). This is resolved by having Strunk be Mather’s successor who’s term was also replaced when Faction Paradox remove Mather’s term from history.

The Faction Paradox novel ‘Head of State’ depicts a 2 term Democratic President named Samson who is succeeded by Matt Nelson of a newly formed Radical Party. They are subsequently assassinated by their VP, the sentient humanoid TARDIS Lolita (Who has also been War Queen of Gallifrey and Queen of the UK before, as well as having devoured the Eleven Day Empire). It’s unknown how long she served nor when beyond ‘Early 21st Century’. She (along with Matt Nelson and Samson) have been as a temporal aberration replacing Mather and Strunk before themselves being replaced by Obama and Trump following Lolita’s defeat in True History of Faction Paradox and the ending of the War in Heaven.

The Novel SIGNET Unstoppable depicts a ‘bleeding heart’ but also relatively aggressive and shortsighted unnamed male President in command in 2024, though he is not named. He does not appear to match the behaviour of the IRL 2024 president Joe Biden.

A 2000 Bernice Summerfield short story claims Hillary Clinton was US President at some point. However, these records are portrayed as suspect with Bernice questioning them herself and have been ignored for lack of a position to place Clinton into the timeline.

Per Alien Bodies the United States at least partially disintegrates during the 2030s, although per Kill the Moon some political entity bearing the name ‘The United States’ survives past that point, albeit potentially as a rump state.

IT'S HAPPENING!!! WE GOT A CONFIRMED DATE FOR ENRECO (Season) 2!!

It sucks a lot that Fauna and Mumei will be fully retired by the time this starts as it is set in their Generation, but I am still holding onto hope Cover gives us crumbs and nods to them in the Chapter/Season that is based on their Generation (2nd hololive English Gen: Coulcilrys [debuted group named Council + a solo talent debut named Irys] which later became Promise). I don't know how much I want to stay the same from the first season be it character traits, to settings and teams. I know the girls will be able to improv out an amazing story regardless. Here's to season 2. And for the the moots or random passerby curious to what this is: ENreco is a Family Friendly Roleplaying project done for the English branch of Hololive, started last year. A lot of the vtubers who made up the branch (minus a few like: Kronii, Calli, Elizabeth, and Gigi) had little proper experience in a video game server RP setting. Despite that, the project was a major hit, and they all had varying degrees of stories highlighted in fan clips or compilations (you can find on youtube), and (earlier these weeks as a lead up to the date announcement for season 2) the official Hololive English channel making highligh videos to drum up hype. Here is the official channel playlist, any of the videos titled [ENreco] Chapter 1 REWIND are the highlighted moments from the official Hololive channel, the other videos in the list include: promotional videos like a trailer, a promotional theme song released by Hololive English's power vocalist (So far) they are: Mori Calliope, Irys, Nerissa Ravencroft, and Elizabeth Rose Bloodflame. (It is super good highly recommend hearing it), and spoiler cinematic trailers that cover Hololive Myth's Lore videos that don't make much sense without watching the first Chapter.

The story left off on a cliff hanger of the world they were transported to being corrupted, and Gen 2 (of Hololive English) consisted of vtuber characters themed around concepts pertaining to an ecosystem of life. Like: Time, Nature, Civilization, Space, Hope, and Chaos. Since its introduction, the fans (us) have seen the retirement/Graduation (term used to say "moved on" in the Idol scene that vtubers have adopted) of: Tsukumo Sana (Space), Ceres Fauna (Nature), and Nanashi Mumei (Civilization). Leaving us with: Hakos Baelz (Chaos), Ouro Kronii (Warden of Time), and Irys (embodiment of Hope). Among the other Hololive English groups: Myth-Gen 1 debut 2020 (who had the first Chapter/Season based off them; they are myth related minus Ame, a blond detective that was investigating them-who could travel through space and time but that is "unofficial" lore by the actress to the character), Advent-Gen 3 debut 2023 (Rebellious ragtag group of escaped convicts wanted by Gods), and Justice-Gen 4 debut 2024 (Group of Jailers sent down out to track down Advent)

Yuzuki X Wren- Story of Seasons: Trio of Towns

The YuzuWren… my everything… I made them in 2020 because that was the year I started really getting into making OCs and finally played 3oT after being hesitant and skipping out when it came out due to how badly the concept of multiple villages was implemented last time. (Thank FUCK Marvelous learned from tott. Anyways) Especially because during the time of playing the file, I realized I had been repressing some horrific, horrific trauma of something that happened to me. They’re what got me through it and I ended up getting a solid 100 hours through their file!

Wren is a trans man. Along with his interest in farming, Daryl refused to accept him as a man. Gay Uncle Frank took him in not only to help get started with farming, but also to help him with transitioning. (As a side note I did not realize Wren starting to transition when he moved to his farm meant he was getting his hrt top and phallo from fucking Ford until months later and felt so FUCKING sorry for him.) (Another side note- Daryl refuses to accept Wren’s transness even after he becomes “proud” of his farm and hopes he’ll grow out of it, Marlena is happy to see how well her “daughter” is doing, and Lynn is genuinely really supportive but rarely gets to see him because of how she’s still young and lives with their parents.)

When Wren first visits Tsuyukusa, he starts helping out Omiyo and Umekichi whenever he had down time to make things a little easier for them. Obviously, this lead to occasionally checking in on Yuzuki as well. Wren got interested in Yuzuki’s jewelry early on and started trying to make more time to talk to him. From being sexually harassed from being so frail and feminine looking in his childhood, Yuzuki was very empathetic to Wren- he’s cis and he can’t possibly imagine how much harder they were for Wren having that his entire life. Finding out Yuzuki was also the unfavorite child to a significantly more horrific degree than Wren was likewise made Wren more sympathetic to him.

Anyways they get married and have gay sex and live an r/childfree life because I have having kids in these games LMAO can you tell they’re my darling yaoi

Mistel X Roland- Story of Seasons (3DS)

I started this file a while ago but recently got back to it!! And doubled the hours I had on it before in a week. Uh.

Roland was a born and raised city boy who always hated how busy the city was. He always loved growing his own vegetables on his apartment balcony and, eventually after doing research on agriculture, decided he’d do best on a farm. When a lot opened up in Oak Tree Town, home of his favorite writer, he couldn’t refuse and set out immediately. Indeed, it wasn’t long before Roland started visiting Iris regularly to talk about literature with her. Mistel, the autistic little freak he is, got curious about Roland very fast and kept attacking him with questions every time he came to talk with his sister. Roland found it incredibly annoying and started giving Mistel little presents when he visited to satiate him while he talked to Iris. This backfired, however, as it only got Mistel even more fixated on him and made him start prodding at Roland even more than he did before. Worst of all, Roland was beginning not only to not mind it, but also starting to enjoy it! At some point, he started visiting less for Iris and more for Mistel. Not that he had a crush on him. He’d never admit he had a crush on him. Eventually Mistel beat him too the punch and asked him out, and that’s where my file currently is!! Very excited to get to when he’s disproportionally hornier than every other LI in the entire series LMFAO

IdiYume- Twisted Wonderland

This one is really REALLY embarrassing for me because I haven’t done romantic yume/self ships since like… middle school

My sona is a catch all one I made a few years ago; Beatrice “Trixie”/“Trix” Hart. Normally I use her/him to terrorize anime boys platonically (she was first created to be an assistant to Klavier Gavin in Ace Attorney, and I think it shows with the name LMAO), but as I got more into the series and read Book 6, I Needed to kiss Idia Shroud and used him for this as well. His name stays the same minus the nickname because, well, I’m a trans dude keeping his gendered birth name lol.

He’s a second year Pomefiore bnuuy beastman at NRC and is BFFs with Cater. Him and Idia vaguely know each other, but generally dislike each other. Online, though, he’s Idia’s favorite vtuber and ok this is too embarrassing for me sorry JDKDWKKFSKFB

I prefer them a lot after NRC, though- I view them as both being transhet (because I am transhet. bye). Idia’s boymoding at NRC, and Trix is girlmoding quite literally everywhere except the all male school he goes to. After they graduate, they start transitioning together. Its a very very intimate experience for both as they support each other through everything.

This picrew is them 10 years post NRC when they’re fully transitioned because that’s usually what I think about with them. :) They’re very happy and love each other and their 3 cats and their younger brother and his 2 dogs.

Chenya X Beau Rhodes-Twisted Wonderland

My most recent ocxcanon ship and the one I have the least amount of development on because there’s so little known about RSA and Chenya is only allowed out of RSA Jail every now and then for enrichment. Beau is twisted from the rose from Beauty and the Beast! He also grew up in the Queendom of Roses, but a different part than Chenya Trey and Riddle. Him and Chenya were roommates their first year at RSA. Beau is very mature and committed to his work and studies in floral arrangement, in contrast to Chenya who’s. Well. Chenya. They end up balancing each other out; Chenya helps Beau lighten up, and Beau has better luck than most convincing Chenya to stop fucking around when he needs to.

The biggest aspect, to their dynamic, however, is something else.

I think NRC is one giant cringe compilation to RSA. They love hearing about the insane things that happen there. And, well, Chenya is childhood friends with the most ridiculous human being ever born, Riddle Rosehearts. And also Trey Clover, man who has spent his entire life being in love with the most ridiculous human being ever born, Riddle Rosehearts. Beau and Trey met as first years from Chenya introducing them, but whenever Riddle came up there was a silent “dude just wait until you meet this guy next year.” Beau didn’t know what he expected but Riddle met all of them.

Chenya does convince him to go to an unbirthday party with him though. Eventually. And he surprisingly does have a great time. That doesn’t stop the “I’ve had to listen to him talk about being in love with this guy for 8 years dude” conversations though.

The Risks of Killing a COVID Early Warning System - Published August 1, 2024

In Ontario, the government is rolling back its detection program. Doctors are speaking out about what’s at stake.

COVID-19 is surging in parts of North America and Europe, and even played a role in ending the presidential campaign of 81-year-old Joe Biden, who was infected for the third time last month.

Nevertheless, on Wednesday the Ontario government shut down its early warning system to detect COVID and other emerging diseases.

Doctors, citizens and researchers are calling the decision to kill the province’s wastewater disease surveillance program both wrong-headed and dangerous. Ending the program will make it harder to track and thwart viral outbreaks, they say, and thereby increase the burden on Ontario’s understaffed hospitals, which experienced more than 1,000 emergency room closures last year.

“Pandemics do not end because science has been muzzled,” Dr. Iris Gorfinkel, a well-known Toronto physician and clinical researcher, told the CBC.

In emails to politicians, more than 5,000 citizens have demanded restoration of the program, with little effect.

For five days a week since then, sewage water has been monitored for signs of COVID and its variants.

The viral particles can be detected in wastewater seven days before people experience symptoms, giving an invaluable head start on public health measures and allowing advance warning of surges in illness. The system was expanded to include wastewater testing for monkeypox, influenza and respiratory syncytial virus, or RSV, and even drug-resistant bacteria, at more than 56 locations in the province. The system covered all 34 public health districts.

Unlike other forms of testing, wastewater surveillance is relatively cheap and can be done in a small university lab. It also provides reliable updates that decision-makers and the public could easily follow in real time.

The monitoring helped millions at high risk from COVID infections, including the elderly and citizens with cancer and other immune suppressive disorders, to determine the incidence of the virus in their communities. It gave them information about when to make medical appointments, where to mask up and when to avoid crowded indoor events.

For many Indigenous communities with substandard and crowded housing, the program also served as an early warning system for waves of respiratory diseases.

The program also provided timely warnings to parents on the risk of infants acquiring RSV, which can cause pneumonia. Hospitals, too, regularly used the results to prepare for staffing and resource challenges in the wake of infectious viral waves including COVID and RSV.

1: the character everyone gets wrong

CISCO. I could count on one hand the number of people who have a proper grasp on Cisco (my Tumblr moots who talk about him a lot 💞), but the others?? Yeah it’s…something.

@kitkatt0430 has talked about the fandom tendency to infantilize him by holding him to his s1 moments forever, even tho he’s clearly grown past them. imo this is largely fandom nostalgia and them believing s1 is the only good season—and that has merit, but like…keeping all the characters stagnant there and not letting them grow is bizarre. Cisco is not always the guy who randomly hits on girls he barely knows. That’s something he does once (or a couple times?) in s1. He grows past that! Cisco is also not “SB’s child”, so anyone who think so can knock it off. It’s not cute to infantilize the MOC on the Team this much, esp saying he’s the “child” of two white characters. Gross (esp since he and Barry are literally similar in their nerdiness and tendency to goof off. Neither of them is “the child” of the other)

Plus…KV shippers tend to see s5 Cisco as OOC. And look, I haven’t rewatched s5, idk for sure if this is true, but again, it’s mostly shippers saying this…and they usually say it in relation to him and Kamilla as a couple. As if he became “less” of himself when he started dating her?? And sure they say that’s not Kamilla’s fault, but like…what?? This ofc goes hand-in-hand with the annoying misconception that Cisco gave up his powers for Kamilla (which is definitely not true—he was talking about that before he even met Kamilla). Y’all wanna invalidate Kamisco so bad to pair Cisco with a white woman…and it’s exhausting. It is. You don’t have to like Kamisco, I get that its writing is not the strongest, but the microaggressions are not it. Cisco is canonically head-over-heels for Kamilla. Not Caitlin. And FYI, you can only turn the WOC into the “supportive best friend” so many times before it starts to look very sus

And as @icedteaandoldlace has talked about…Cynco was never gonna be endgame. Cynthia could never stop working for Breacher, Cisco could never fully be okay with that. Cynthia could never settle down, Cisco could never be with someone who wouldn’t commit (this is also why he couldn’t be with Lisa). This isn’t Cynthia hate, I like her! And I like Cynco too (as a non-endgame ship - they appeal to me in a specific way). But y’all need to be serious (and stop calling her by her slur-word codename 🫶)

Also the way the fans turned against Cisco in s3…OOF. Y’all clearly only saw Cisco as the comedic relief and Barry’s support, huh? (seems to be a trend with the character of color…) The lack of sympathy for Cisco’s grief is astounding—Cisco is allowed to be mad at Barry, and frankly, he should’ve been angry for longer. It doesn’t make him a bad friend. It doesn’t mean he’s “the worst” or “ungrateful” or “OOC”.

On that note, leave him alone about the cold gun too. Even Barry literally said he understood why Cisco made it, he was just mad about Cisco never saying anything for weeks even after they became friends!

So I don’t hate Caitlin, but I’ve definitely gotten irritated because of how the fandom acts about her (and tbh if I’d been watching this show while the earlier seasons was airing, rather than joining the fandom in 2020, I probably would’ve ended up hating her).

The basics!

Amelie Iris Fishel was born on June 11, 2002 in Detroit, Michigan

Her mother, Elise is of French descent and her father, Thomas is a quarter Filipino on his mother’s side. 

Amelie studied at the University of Michigan from 2020-2024 on a full scholarship, graduating with a double degree in communications and design. 

She worked with the Michigan Athletic Department as a photographer, photographing practically every single sport at the college. She was assigned to photograph the men’s hockey team a good amount, thus becoming familiar with the players.

In her last two years, she was the TA in classes that Adam Fantilli, Rutger McGroarty, Gavin Brindley, Luca Fantilli and Nick Moldenhauer took. 

With her time photographing the hockey team, she became the closest (relatively to the others) to Ethan Edwards

The Acorn Path academy prides itself on the gruelling nature of its entrance exam, but what you chiefly remember is the time just after its completion: the hour you spent waiting for news of acceptance or rejection. Prior to today, prior to right now, that hour was the longest one in your life.  Now, as then, the seconds drag past. Your stomach feels as if it is stuffed with boiling lead; a horrible itching restlessness crawls along your skin. You can feel every molecule of blood and sweat and cave dirt on your body and all of them are… Wriggling.

Now, as then, you pace in long circuits. Only this time, you’re pacing an underground passage instead of the deep-carpeted university hallway. That’s fine. The clatter of your hobnailed boots on the stone is more satisfying, anyway.

“Nee,” says someone, from somewhere; you don’t know where, because you’re extremely not interested in looking anybody in the eye right now.

“I’m fine,” you say, brusque, with a lot of dignity, and sit down on the ground. Sketch the outline of Prestidgitation in the air with your fingers; it’s a cantrip you’ve done a million times, and it’s actually almost relaxing. The invisible force that whisks everything unclean off of your skin and clothes. The almost-heat, almost-cold, almost-pressure of the sensation, all of those and also none of them. It steadies you, so you cast it again. Uselessly.

You didn’t take a single hit in this fight, so you don’t have any need to patch yourself up. You used maybe two spells, and flipping through your spellbook to prepare more takes precisely forty-seven seconds. Leaves three thousand, five hundred fifty-three before the rest of the party is ready to move on, and you feel every single one of those seconds like a weight on your ankles. 

Pacing bothers the people around you, apparently. People who got to the fight sooner, and, therefore, did get injured, and, therefore, need more rest. So you won’t pace. You cast Prestidigitation again. Still feel unclean, afterward.

This hour is stretching far, far longer than the other one, the Acorn Path one. You think about possible time-dilation or -compression spells (that’s, what, Dunamancy?) to occupy your brain, which otherwise will start churning about the fight itself. You refuse to think about that. Your brain is your most powerful weapon and you are not going to-- oh dammit, you’ve thought about it.

This hour is stretching, yes, far longer than seems possible or believable, but it’s nothing. Nothing, compared to the agonizing seconds of waiting to see if Tanith’s desperate spell would take. 

You’re thinking about it now, so any protection not thinking about it could have afforded is gone. That makes it okay to look across the cave, to let your eyes pass over Oz (sitting with one leg pulled up, leaning back against the wall, face pale and drawn, hands unsteady) and Lylah (squatting next to him, talking low and seriously). Nothing immediately happens, which makes it okay to take a deep breath. From this angle, the new scar on Oz’s face is glaring. Obvious, with its corpse-white hue, with the way it drags one eyelid down, with that eye’s iris gone pale green and milky. It’s not a clean scar, somehow. It makes your fingers itch to shape healing spells, even though you don’t know any. You have tried exactly one healing spell, back in university, which sucked and was boring. But still.

If you look at it logically, laying out all the facts, what happened shouldn’t be shocking. It really shouldn’t. Yesterday, you took a horrible gelatinous cave-thing to the face and upper body, and passed out twice within the span of an hour. Leif routinely gets skewered by assorted weaponry, and also hasn’t had an audible heartbeat in weeks. Lylah and Oz and, yes, Tanith and Symon and Arrie, too, have gotten knocked out plenty of times. Sometimes more messily than this. No one in this party is invulnerable, you know that. Obviously.

But it’s never been this bad before. Never anything that wasn’t fixable by dumping a healing potion down someone’s throat and hoping for the best; never anything that put you out of sorts like this. Leif and Lylah and, awfully, Oz -- you’ve been traveling with them going on five months now. You’re used to them being around. You kind of like them being around. And when you saw Tanith’s face as she leaned over Oz’s body -- when you thought, for an eternal, nasty moment, that he was gone for good--

Your thoughts stop right there. They refuse to congeal. It feels like someone is moving heavy furniture on your chest.

Pushing harder on that line of thought doesn’t even do any good. It just kicks your stupid heartrate into overdrive and shallows out your breathing, and that horrible, crushing weight on your chest gets worse. Your thoughts wheel away from Oz lying still, Lylah screaming, Leif’s intent stare, but the only replacement is Rill’s wrinkled face. Her lips, turned down at the corner. Her saying How did you get to be such a disappointment, Nee. Your skin itches again; if you got up. If you paced, back and forth, fast, vicious, maybe you’d feel better. But Oz is tired and Lylah might be crying; you cannot disturb them. Instead, you twirl your new wand in your fingers. Put it away. Cast Prestidigitation again, even though you can’t have possibly gotten dirty.

A sudden memory, that time at Acorn Path again: you’d folded a spare paper from your exam booklet into a shitty little fan to pass the time. You’re way better at paper-folding now; when you dig out a spare parchment from your pack, your hands are practised and sure on the creases.

Rabbit-ear fold. Outside-reverse. Pleat. Making the edges perfectly even, the folds crisp and straight, quiets your mind and soothes the weird itchy-jumpiness. It speeds time back up, too; it’s almost time to pack up when you look down and realize the finished shape of the thing you’ve made.

Your chest almost gets crushed again, but you take a deep breath through it. Stand up. Stalk across the cave, angry, now, all of a sudden.

You drop the tiny paper wolf in Oz’s lap just as he finishes talking to Lylah. Skitter your eyes away from his befuddled look. “Don’t do that again,” you say over your shoulder, already turning to go. You add, as an afterthought, “Asshole.”

Some of the pressure in your chest eases, just a little bit.

I Play Spongebob Games for Content!

Last week I decided to dust off my PS2 and play some games, I then had the idea to tie it into this blog somehow. My eyes drifted to the bottom of my shelf and there were four Spongebob games I still had from my childhood. No reader I am not a masochist, I'm just a slut for pain. Let's not waste time and get right into it in the order I would've played them in growing up!

Revenge of the Flying Dutchman

This is the first one I ever had and also my introduction to the concept of saving a game. This one follows the story of Gary disturbing the Flying Dutchman's slumber and now Spongebob must find a way to put him back to rest. All the while the Dutchman starts taking his friends to be part of his new crew. I'm gonna say it here, this is the worst game out of the bunch. The controls are just floaty, and the jumping mechanic feels time consuming. The combat is awful, but I think the developers were aware of that so enemies often wait for you to approach, except for the stray snails they charge at you with full force. The character models are really rough around the edges, the worst one is Plankton of all characters.

This game is also doing something to my poor PS2. There are two loading screens back to back and I can hear my PS2 struggling and sweating just to load the inside of the Krusty Krab. It really should not be struggling with a game like this.

The weirdest thing out of this is that the eyes on the characters are individually animated. I don't mean the eyebrows, that would be normal and an easy way to make characters expressive. I mean that the pupils and iris's are individually animated. This only really works with the hypnotizing scenes as the characters are being kidnapped. It gives them a wibbly woobly effect, the effect works nowhere else. All the characters have a lazy eye and sometimes one eye just doesn't move in cut scenes. The game also has a few sound issues with the end cut scene having moments of silence.

Something really surprising is that I have not encountered a single glitch in this one. Props to the dev team for making it actually stable, Lord knows management didn't give a damn.

Battle For Bikini Bottom

Now here's an obvious edition to the list. This was the second Spongebob game I had and it was of course my favorite. It's one of those few licensed games that are remembered fondly and has a dedicated fanbase to this day. So much so that in 2020, the year of misery and hellfire, it got a remake for the modern generation. I played the Switch version for this cry for help that I'm calling a review, and it is what I remember.

BFBB is a standard collect-a-thon wearing Spongebob's skin, that is also fairly show accurate. Most of the voice cast is of course here, except for Clancy Brown, for what ever reason he wasn't in the original and he's still not here. At the same time it would be weird hearing the real Mr. Krabs in this game. There are plenty of good jokes here that have been immortalized into meme culture like Mrs. Puff smuggling stolen art works.

The levels are pretty fun, with plenty of missions and collectables in each to keep you busy. My personal favorite being the dream level that caps off with a joke from Patrick. The worst level though is the Kelp Forest, and it is painful. The stone tikis, and the caves are tedious, and I swear there is no way to beat Mermaid-man's sliding time without breaking the game in some way. I broke the game just trying to do a normal slide down. Honestly I think that this level could've been replaced by something else, maybe the boating school because that school has more appearances than the Kelp Forest.

Aside from my complaints the game still holds up pretty well, with the exception of the performance. I don't know if it's just the Switch version or just an issue with my copy, but as I was playing through it, I saw more and more glitches. At one point I was launched up into the void beyond the sky box, for no apparent reason from what I can tell. I mean I'd still play it again, this type of game tends to be my bread and jam.

Spongebob Squarepants Movie Game

This one was of course put out at the same time the first movie was making its rounds. It is what you'd expect from a movie tie in game, but only in the cut scenes. The cut scenes look and sound like a conglomerate of early drafts, concept art, and unused voice lines from the actual movie. The in game cutscenes are perfectly fine, so I was wondering why they didn't just use that the whole time. Then I remembered that this was probably made on a massive time crunch to make the movie release date. The game itself was made by Heavy Iron who also did Battle for Bikini Bottom, so they share a lot of assets with movie themed additions. Playing through both this and BFBB, it's clear that the enemies were just re-skins of the robots. Even the enemy introductions use the same formula.

Gameplay wise it is just like BFBB minus Sandy, with all the same attacks returning as well. The levels are fun enough, I remember spending a lot of time in Goofy Goobers, just listening to the silly music. The trench levels always peaked my interest, except for the bits where you go into so sort of angler fish, that was a little weird. In the end if you just want more BFBB, this is the game for you if you can look past the cutscenes.

Creature From The Krusty Krab

This was the standout surprise out of the bunch, this game suffers from not enough time and resources, but the creativity behind it is admirable. It's based on the dream episode where Spongebob is bouncing around everyone's dreams. It is a standard level progression system but a handful of these levels have unique art styles that are pleasant on the eyes and pretty creative. The first level is Spongebab having a Twisted Metal racing dream where everyone is drawn with intense expressions while Bikini Bottom is a diesel punk design. The second level is Patrick dreaming about being his self insert character for a super hero comic book, and the town looks like it was drawn in a comic book. Planktons dreams starts out as a pretty standard side scroller before becoming a monster movie, and from then on it is just the monster movie. Spongebob's sections have the most variety, starting as the race level, then he gets eaten by an alaskan bull worm and his next level is in there. What is with these games and having levels inside creatures, is someone into vore? Patrick ends up flying on a rocket in space and

Back to the monster movie bit, this is where the budget really went, it's on the box, it was in the marketing, it is a third of the game. It really worked backwards from the idea of giant kaiju Plankton. Starts with rampaging as Plankton, then Spongebob is flying around trying to find some way to stop him, then Patrick teams up with Mermaid Man to finally take him down. Each one has its issues but also I had a good time with it. Here's something interesting about this game, it has three endings, one for each character. They only unlock if you collect all the little goops for Patrick and Plankton, so a good reward if you like exploring levels.

Playing through this game, it had a lot of potential. No really, if it had more time and resources it could've been a pretty great game. There's mostly a lack of polish, there were a couple of minor bugs when an attack didn't hit when it should have. There were a couple of animation issues, the mayor character glides across the screen, some characters have their feet merging with the floor, and others are really stiff. One thing that was I found annoying was the characters talking a lot during gameplay, all the above have that but this one should have dialed it back a bit. Beyond those issues, this game could have been great, maybe on the same level as BFBB.

Conclusion (It's Passed My Bedtime)

So what did we learn from all this? That my opinion on BFBB was basic and expected? That I may be a masochist? Well yes, but I have found a couple surprises here, like with Creature from the Krusty Krab, I had no expectations going into that one. I had the least expectations for ROFD but it somehow didn't cause a fire despite its efforts, and the movie tie in was just a spin off of BFBB. This is making me reconsider the pile of licensed games festering in the corner, I may have to dig through it to see if I find any hidden gems.

The Colorado district attorney at the center of the failed murder prosecution against the husband of Suzanne Morphew, who went missing in 2020 and was later found dead, should be disbarred after multiple “ethical violations” while in her elected position, a state disciplinary board ruled Tuesday.

Linda Stanley — the district attorney for the 11th Judicial District who led the prosecution team against Barry Morphew — “gravely abused her position of trust as a public official and minister of justice” after she made improper statements to the press, did not adequately supervise the prosecution that included numerous discovery violations, and used her team to go after the judge that presided over the case,” state disciplinary authorities ruled. 

The disbarment would take effect in 35 days, and Stanley has a week to appeal the decision. A lawyer for Stanley and the DA’s office did not immediately respond to a request for comment Tuesday.

“In the majority’s estimation, the Colorado legal profession and its prosecutorial community cannot rely on [Stanley’s] sense of integrity, probity, or righteousness to protect the public interest or to faithfully pursue justice for the citizens of the State of Colorado,”  the 83-page disciplinary order states. “Her disbarment is therefore warranted.”

The decision comes three months after Stanley faced a two-week disciplinary hearing before a three-member panel under the Colorado Supreme Court, where state regulators accused her of professional misconduct. The Office of Attorney Regulation Counsel first brought the case against Stanley in October. Stanley, a former police officer who was elected as district attorney in November 2022, had already said she would not seek re-election. 

“This is a case about a ship with a captain who never manned the bridge,” Jonathan Blasewitz, an attorney for state’s Office of Attorney Regulation Counsel, said during the hearing, according to the Colorado Sun.

The defense attorney for Barry Morphew, husband of Suzanne Morphew, whose remains were found last year, praised the order.

“This was absolutely the right outcome,” Iris Eytan said in a statement to NBC News.

Eytan, who founded Protect Ethical Prosecutors and had requested the Colorado Office of Attorney Regulation Counsel investigate Stanley, added that “Stanley will no longer be permitted to use a prosecutor’s unlimited power and discretion to prosecute,” and said her organization “hopes that this case serves as a springboard to protect ethical prosecutors and also for more unethical prosecutors to be held accountable."

The bombshell ruling is the latest twist in the failed case against Morphew in connection with the May 2020 disappearance of his wife of 26 years. 

Morphew, who released a video days after Suzanne vanished, pleading for her safe return, was charged in May 2021 with first-degree murder and tampering with physical evidence. Days later, he was hit with additional charges after prosecutors said he casted a mail-in ballot on behalf of his wife for Donald Trump. (Morphew pleaded guilty in the voter fraud case in July 2022 and did not serve any jail time).

State regulators allege that soon after Morphew’s arrest, Stanley began texting the host of the “Profiling Evil” YouTube channel about the case. After the charges were made public, she allegedly sought to provide information about the case to the host after the host questioned the criminal complaint against Morphew.  

After the host floated a theory online that Morphew strangled his wife in a hot tub, Stanley texted him to shoot it down before telling him that the tub looked like it had not been used “in a long time,” according to the state regulators. “But keep on spinning ideas in your brain!” Stanley texted, according to the order.

Stanley then appeared on the YouTube show on Aug. 30, 2021, despite reservations from fans who saw promotions about the interview, the order states. On the show, she discussed the public information about the case, the process of a preliminary hearing and how her office did not get the full case file until after Morphew’s arrest.

“She concluded the segment by noting that she was a little insulted that people would question whether she should appear on the show and insisted that ‘[a]nything out in the public is ok to talk about,’” the order states, noting that she also responded to comments by viewers under the YouTube video. 

According to the order, Stanley during the disciplinary hearing justified replies to viewers’ posts by claiming an “important distinction” between her public persona as an elected DA and her private persona who should be able to “defend herself from personal attacks.”

“She reasoned that in her responsive comments, she was acting as a person, not the elected district attorney, as evidenced by her use of her personal picture, as opposed to her professional headshot, and her personal email, rather than her business email,” the order stated, adding that Stanley also testified that responded to one comment “to correct the record to show that no-body homicides could be prosecuted successfully.” 

State regulators, however, say that Stanley took it a step further when she reached out to the host of a YouTube podcast, “True Crime with Julez,” after she questioned the investigation in one of the videos. The order states Stanley reached out to the host directly on Facebook to defend herself and even shared her personal cell number. When the host asked her whether Morphew was “getting ready to flee,” Stanley responded “possibly.” (Stanely said during the hearing that her response was “straight, neutral, down the line,” the order states.)

“I was shocked, nervous, and unsettled when she contacted me,” the host told The Daily Beast about Stanley’s outreach. “I was intimidated.” 

While Stanley had time to respond to the media, she and her team allegedly could not keep up with deadlines to push the case forward, the order states. Judge Ramey Lama then ruled that the trial be moved out of the county because of Stanley’s public statements, and he continued to hammer the prosecution for being “sloppy” and blowing past discovery deadlines. 

Amid the unfavorable rulings against the prosecution less than two months before the anticipated April 2022 trial start date — including barring most of the prosecution witnesses set to testify about cell phone data — Stanley “instructed her chief investigator to interview” Lama’s ex-wife “to determine whether the judge committed domestic abuse,” according to the order.

“Even though she had no credible evidence to believe that the judge had ever engaged in such criminal conduct, [Stanley] ordered the investigation in an effort to uncover information about the judge that would require him to recuse from the case,” the order states. 

Shortly after an interview with the judge, Stanley moved to dismiss the case against Morphew without prejudice, meaning charges could be refiled. Lama resigned as a judge in April 2022 for personal reasons.

Suzanne Morphew’s remains were discovered in September, and the DA’s office has yet to announce charges in the case. Barry Morphew has since filed a federal civil rights lawsuit over his arrest.

At the disciplinary hearing, Stanley’s lawyer argued that Stanley did not have the resources to handle such a high-profile case and struggled to hire prosecutors. He also argued that Stanley had the right to investigate Lama because he had been “incredibly biased” to her team. 

The order, however, states that Stanley was “ultimately responsible for all actions in her office, including the prosecution team’s failures that resulted in the case’s dismissal — an outcome decidedly not in the public interest.” 

“In short, the Morphew case suffered because she did not act with reasonable diligence in exercising appropriate leadership and assuming appropriate managerial responsibilities,” the order states.
