The meeting is over! It actually went really well—it turns out that the most intimidating person on my committee not only did not consider failing my exam on sixteenth-century British literature, but thought it was exceptionally strong :)

Context is important here. Montaigne alone should not and does not bear the entire weight of early modern misogyny. At the same time, I think that recourse to “well, of course he thought that way; everyone did” is somewhat lazy and does not really give Montaigne credit for his individuality and intelligence. Ok, I recently wrote an essay [here] talking about the definition and duties of civil engineering as well as the ethics because of the brain rot @swordfright gave me with calling Dream Sam’s ultimate engineering project. So, because I actually am a civil engineer I took it upon myself to design the title and summary of quantities sheets just like I do at work for roads but with Dream as the project instead. And in honor of angst day sponsored by @sixteenth-day-event, I figured I’d share it because I feel like it kinda works for the prison of the mind prompt.

everyone should read Dazai's Entrance Exam (the original Azure Apostle/Messenger arc) because the amount of changes they made when adapting the plot to fit it into 2 episodes in the present instead of the past cannot be covered without basically doing a full recap of the entire book.

The intrigue is built around the uncertainty of who the Azure Apostle is. Not in a "who could this person be?" way, but in a "oh no, could the azure apostle really be Dazai testing the ADA's limits?" way.

Dazai tagging along Kunikida during the investigation is his entrance exam. There is no trust established yet. Everyone is on edge. Dazai seems to know more than he should, but never shares. Fukuzawa gave Kunikida a gun and told him to shoot Dazai dead if Dazai turns out to be bad news and a danger to the ADA and the city.

You as the reader know Dazai will join the ADA. If you watched the anime you know the big lines and how things end. Or do you, really? So many things are different in this version, is the ending gonna be the same? Your knowledge barely settles your nerves.

Read it. It's good. It's honestly among Asagiri's best in terms of plot structure and foreshadowing. It's an actual mystery. You will like it.

Hi, I woke up today to texts from someone I love in frozen South Dakota. She's had a rough run of things lately, child support keeps being late and she's had car issues lately that she's fortunately been able to cover herself, but it's eaten into the very tiny savings she'd finally built up.

She has been taking on as much work as she can get cleaning houses to try to make up for missing child support, but her kids keep getting sick from school and then getting her sick which has made this challenging.

Today her autistic 9 yo was too sick to go to school and so my loved one had to call out of work to stay home and take care of the kiddo, while also being pretty sick herself.

She's done some math and these are the expenses she can't figure out how to cover:

$275 rent $80 medicine $45 phone bill $20 gas $20 replacement noise canceling headphones for autistic kid $20 gas $5 shampoo and conditioner $5 feminine pads

Would any financially secure adults be able/willing to help this little family with even a dollar towards meeting these needs?

The funniest thing about being autistic with a high pain tolerance is that the first time I did impact play I got hit for like half an hour without making noise, and then when I did, it was just "OUCH" in the most monotone voice ever. So I figured out how to convert Dungeon Meshi ages into their equivalent for different races.

Assuming the age of adulthood is roughly equivalent between all of them, and that a 16 y/o tall-man is equivalent to a 14 y/o half-foot, 80 y/o elf, 40 y/o dwarf, 40 y/o gnome, etc., then divide the character's age by their race's age of adulthood to get your multiplier, then multiply that number by the age of adulthood for the race you want to convert it to.

Or put simply:

([character age]/[their race's age of adulthood]) x [age of adulthood for different race]

For example, Mithrun is 185. Elves reach adulthood at 80. 185 divided by 80 is 2.3125. So that means Mithrun is 2.3125 times the age of adulthood for any given race. If I multiply that by 16, then he would be 37 in tall-man years.

That being said, if Chilchuck was a tall-man he would be 33.

Have you considered that if you need an outside source to tell you that minor/adult relationships, incest relationships, abuse relationships ect. are bad/can’t understand that subtext, maybe you shouldn’t be on the internet?

“What about the children? They don’t know any better!” Monitor and limit your child’s internet use. As someone who was raised with unlimited, unmonitored internet access, do it. I don’t care if it makes your job as a parent harder, do it. Especially if your child is young enough to not understand stuff like this or has any issues that may lead to them not knowing.

Also raise your children knowing that stuff isn’t okay? Like I remember my mom having a talk with me to avoid strangers and that if random people try to talk and get close to me to run and avoid that. Are parents not teaching their kids basic safety to the point they don’t know this?

It’s not proshipper’s faults that this stuff is happening. It’s not our fault people have low reading comprehension. Stop putting the blame on us, jfk
