i may seem to lean in more towards romanticism of zolu but imma be real here

theyre a whole secret third thing to me like— idk how to explain it it other than their love and bond transcends what romance and platonic. yes i will draw them smooching and have hearts flying all around them but it is not exactly romantic/platonic... bc i saw this one comic that just... perfectly described zolu and the strawhats to me? it was about law catching zolu and then discussing with the other strawhats about it and they explained that luffy does in fact love everyone equally and the same. for luffy, romantic nor platonic is Not a thing to him. (this is how i view luffy's aroaceness !! love isnt a category for him. love isnt something he could just pick and choose or whatever. love is just... loving someone. love is for the people very dear to him.) and in the comic, the strawhats say that zoro's the one and only guy who could keep up with luffy's energy and antics. so they dont mind the things they do together in privacy or in front of them. they know how much luffy loves them ALL EQUALLY and they all love him back

on topic of zolu and aroace... i've been around spaces and talked to a few zolu shippers (qpr shipping count) and noticed how many of us are at least on the aro/ace spectrum. there's just Something about zolu's special relationship that attracts us, and if you ship them and are aro/ace, im certain you'd agree. (even if you arent, we can mutually agree that they are a third thing, right?) like, theres something so... aroace about their relationship. they can be seen as romantic and they can be seen as platonic, but what can be absolutely certain is that their relationship is definitely queer. bc it's not something you can easily describe or that their relationship is The Norm. theyre insane for each other. luffy's the sun. zoro's the moon. luffy's a good. zoro's the king of hell. they complete each other. they absolutely need each other.

my memory is horrible and i cant say the words properly but basically: zolu's love and relationships transcends romance and platonically. yes you can see it as either, but as an aroace, i Feel it is way beyond that.

and again, will repeat it a million times over (mind you, it's not canon. it's a widely accepted HEADCANON. if you think luffy's sexuality is something else, thats cool): i believe that luffy's aroaceness is way beyond "not interested in attraction/xyz/whatever" like yeah, he doesn't think about it because it doesnt matter much to him. he doesnt apply whats romantic or platonic to HIS relationships. he can recognize romantic, sexual, platonic things. it's just not his thing to really think hard about (he doesnt think much in the first place (affectionage)) he feels love for the people he cares about and if they feel loved by him, however he approaches the love (and if they accept that kind of form) thats all that matters to him. he doesnt label/categorize love because it makes no sense to Him to prioritize someone over the other just bc he loves that someone a different way. he loves everyone equally and treats them as equals.

and when it comes to Any luffy ships, calling his significant other "partner" is what fits best. theyre not just best friends, theyre partners.

thank you for replying! -i understand where youre coming from but i feel like some of the points you brought up about scott can't just be boiled down to homophobia if that makes sense- like people see scott as calculated because he calls making allies/friendships a 'social game' etc . and obviously grian and joel berating and teasing jimmy also isn't entirely fine but i think toxicity in the context of an alliance vs a canon-explicit marriage should be weighed differently, but ultimately im not sure that grian is actually necessarily "worse" than scott; while i think grian and joel and jimmy do have an unbalanced dynamic alot of the 'berating' between them is more like 'jimmy you idiot you died to xyz' whereas with scott in 3l it felt a bit more manipulative likewhen scott purposely placed something to scare jimmy and then made fun of him for being scared but. idk

also i think everyone understands that they're friends in real life and nothing ccjimmy is actually uncomfortable with would make it into a video but this is just to think about/interpret their characters within the context of the roleplay/storyline

ideal types aren’t set in stone - they change over time and even then a type doesn’t necessarily indicate who someone will end up with eventually! i agree people definitely get caught up in thinking these broad descriptions are concrete, but it’s also on tarot readers (like myself) to emphasize how fluid tarot can be. i could ask about san’s ideal type three months from now and it could be totally different, and his type now is probably totally different from when he first debuted!

as for narrowing down what could be most true, i usually go for what gets repeated because if multiple people are picking up on it then everyone can’t be reading the cards wrong if that makes sense? but again, things are fluid.

1. what u read define u as a person

i think this is different for everybody. i consume media a lot and all of them gave me something—ideas, perspectives, etc—however miniscule. but not everyone is like that. some people actually dont consume media that much. or if they do, they aren't that attentive in their engagement to media, ykwim? i know that depending on your social circle on the internet, esp in fandoms, it can feel like everybody is "into something" ... but IRL some people don't actually do that. and for these people media probably dont have as much impact to them as it does to people who put an importance to media in general.

as for people who do ... hm. these days people even pick and choose a media because they feel like this would define them as a person—like a label. like idk, fucking "im a dc fan" vs "im a marvel fan", "i like reading shounen" vs "i like reading seinen". some people deliberately show that they are the kind of person who engage with "this kind of content" instead of "this other kind of content". media can now be an identity marker to express yourself ... like clothes you wear. like an aesthetic. same logic can apply when you hate media, too. like when ppl dont wanna be associated with kpop/that euphoria tv show/boku no hero academia because they dont want to seem like a person who would be associated with said media. 

basically, you are what you read is very similar to you are what you buy kind of mentality, no? 

not that there is anything invalid about it. well, probably there is—ooo consuming media performatively or whatever hur dur—but idrc. i mean i do it too. its also useful to find other people with similar interest, which leads to you finding “better” media to consume. i mean, taste is built. plus, nothing wrong with identifying with a specific kind of content. 

so yeah. i do think the kind of stuff that you consume contribute to who you are as a person and does on some level define who you are. but definitely not all of it. 

also, you dont always agree with everything that you consume, even if you like the aforementioned thing. you are what you read sort of implies that all pieces of media is ... hm ... a propaganda—and one that you just go along with unconditionally. but i dont want to read every story just blindly believing in every single thing it says to me. its a two way street when you read. you change the story too, as a reader. the story is also defined by you.

2. what u write define u as a person

i think it does, but not all of it, and definitely not straightforwardly.

like say somebody writes a telenovela about twins separated at birth and one of them falls in love with a person who turns out to be their sister from another mother and the other twin drives a car off a cliff and has amnesia. this does not mean that the writer actually experiences all of this, yknow? 

a story definitely tells you what kind of person the writer is, i 100% believe this. but that doesnt mean we can always understand what kind of person the writer is. does that make sense? i mean, the same text can be interpreted in a million different ways by a million different readers, dont u think? all of us come out of the story carrying different things and understandings, and not all of them would match up perfectly with what the writer is trying to tell us. you cant really assume you understand who the writer is as a person completely just by reading what they write. 

(and also thats just a weird and invasive behavior.)

i dont really believe in death of the author, personally. but sometimes you just ... cant find the author. this can be due to the author’s skillset in conveying their ideas/our own skillset in interpreting media/reader’s biases and projections on the story/etc, etc. the author is there, for sure, but you dont always see them in the story. i mean, sometimes you just see yourself. 

plus, stories and authors change overtime. stories will always be reinterpreted and rehashed differently depending on the current times, and authors, as long as they arent dead, will change as a person. cuz, yknow, they are people. 

what u read and write define u as a person isn’t wrong necessarily—but it is, however, reductive.

What do you think is the difference in Al’s characterization/development in 03 vs. BH? Which Al do you prefer?

i could be totally wrong about everything im about to say. this is all my takeaway, and its going to differ from other people’s.

i think the main difference is in 03 al is the deuteragonist and in bh al is just a few steps above side character. In 03 al is as important as ed and has a lot more say on things. he acts more like an actual brother by butting heads with ed and speaking up more. bh al most of the time comes across as a sidekick. bh al’s character development isnt a big thing because theres not much TO develop when he’s more of a supporting role vs in 03 where he has many established flaws to be expanded on.

i am not criticizing bh here, and its not something im mad about in the slightest. but it is why i prefer 03, because the appeal of fma for me was always the brothers, and 03 focuses way more on the brothers (their growth, their struggles, their relationship, etc), ironically, more than brotherhood which has a wider cast and world it divides its attention on (and i like a wide cast and big world as much as an intimate character study, it just so happens in fma’s case it was always the brothers that captivated me over the world, so naturally the show that zeroes in on the brothers as opposed to zooming away from them more and more is the one i prefer).

03 al is rougher around the edges, has more obvious flaws, and his development seems to be about becoming more decisive and proactive and less passive, with a heavy emphasis on survivors guilt and the effects the armor has on his psyche. it spends more time giving al the attention his horrific situation deserves.

in bh, al is a sweet and supportive brother who serves to motivate ed and be useful to the plot when he can with his body. his development seems to center around accepting how useful his body is? which good for him, but illustrates my point of bh having its characters be more like set pieces. al only gets development in scenes where he can move the plot forward.

i love both als. bh al is easier to love because he’s very “nonoffensive” and “unobstrusive.” hes sweet and kind and has funny moments and is just an endearing boy. its impossible not to love al. 03 has the same qualities but with more of a challenge because 03 actually gives him substantial flaws to overcome. 03 al can be harder to love sometimes because of his flaws, because he makes mistakes and acts like an idiot and gets angry and is wrong sometimes. but he’s a much more deeply-written, well rounded, dimensional character for it.

but yknow sometimes a simpler and more clean cut character like bh al is what a story needs, and what the audience needs. a black and white wholly Good character who inspires us and simplifies things for us in impactful ways is just as valuable as a flawed and complicated one that makes us question ourselves. i love both als, i think they are both fantastic. obviously i prefer 03, though.

i think in terms of personality differences, and this is just my interpreation of their characters (and my interpretion of bh al could always be way off since i dont remember details of bh as well as 03), if they met youd be able to quickly see that 03 al is more outspoken. Even if 03 al is still the rational calm and observant one to eds impulsivity, he still has opinions and is attempting to broaden them. hes more inclined to question things, offer new possibilities, reach out to other people for connections, all for the purpose of understanding things, in my interpretation. Bh al is more strictly an observer. both are introverts, but 03 al comes across more extraverted because he reaches out more to find answers and will also actively converse and discuss with people, while bh al is almost all quietly thinking to himself.

03 al at the end of his journey is also noticibly rougher. bh al is still the big idealist and softie. hes smily, always beaming, always excited to indulge in life. 03 al is like that too but more often feels fake, because it partially is. theres more sadness behind the same smile thats on bh al’s face. bh al’s smile is bright and happy and cheerful but 03’s masks longing and regret. bh al is much less confrontational but he is much more sassy and snarky, now confident enough to embrace that inner snark and “dam im real done with ppls bullshit but im still a nice person so im not afraid to throw some shade.” 03 al is actually confrontational. he actually is able to get up in your face and tell you off (or if youre someone he cares about, lecture you to take better care of yourself because dammit life is too fragile and he wont stand idly by letting shit happen in front of him any more—hes very much like winry in this sense). hes snarky, yes, but his snark is more strictly for joking and when it comes to conflict he’s straightforward and direct.

hmmm sometimes when i think of the name of a ship in my head i refer to the whole dynamic and relationship, but it doesnt have to necessarily be romantic and both-sided. like when i think of usuk, im thinking of the whole of them, but most of it is just uk pining over america and other toxik and shitty (n very cool) dynamics. i cant see murica as completely loving of him, not explicitly (except maybe in some temporary situations). but when i step back and look at the whole of them then i can obviously see the love and tension and deepness and blahblahh, even if when im focusing on the day to day moments it may seem completely one-sided. on the iggy side of things, his relationship w murica is obviously the most intense n obsessively loving shit he's ever had but i wont get into that classic

basically: To me a ‘ship’ is not referring to the actual relationship but to the angle with which you approach it. that is a rather complicated question since it's so open... hm, lets go about what i like about their character

bazz, his passion, i love that fire he has in his heart, so bright you can see it shine in his eyes, in everything he does.. passionate people are the ones i love to hear the most about, their engagement and enthusiasm always inspires me even if i dont relate, you can tell im a person of love haha, its my most important value and he has no shame in showing that, he always smiles and have that confidence, and still feel like a relatable character, down to earth, and i really love that

jugram is a little harder to love given his... cold persona (no being hot wont count here) but there is something that makes me fall for him and its his unconditional love... he isnt really open about the concept of love, and he very much has his own interpretation of it, where he keeps hiding what it truly holds even to himself... while i dont like how he denies it, he never killed it, he never killed that flame in his heart even if it means it would hurt him in the future... his love for bazz is just beautiful to me, to love someone for all the goods and bad, from the past to the future, to love even if the ideas dont collide with yours... he cant let go bc he genuinely feels love, and im glad he kept it and accepted it despite it all

Ya..i know other people can have different interpretations which is interesting. unpopular opinion..I think the love triangle is kinda forced and unnecessary tbh. It was cool at first connecting the songs and I understand why she did it but the songs stand on their own in my opinion. Like why exactly does Augustine have to be the other girl in the situation to James who had a gf..instead of just like about a summer romance and the guy just didnt call back. Cardigan can be similar to what I said..couple had to break up under circumstances..guy goes to college and eventually comes back to her so the song can still be romantic. I will never see the Cardigan metaphor as negative..I know other people do, but as someone with depression, the lyric is very important to me..before we knew anything and first got those lyrics, I assumed it was about how Taylor felt when she disappeared. I've even say some people say it was about her career or maybe to the fans. Betty would be the same song with no context cuz it already tells a full story. I know why its connected cuz it's an exaggerated version of what Taylor went thru, but the only thing I like now is that the car and garden lyrics finally make sense now cuz of Getaway Car and Cruel Summer.. that used to take me out of the song everytime lol.

i think (part of) the reason taylor has talked about the triangle so much is because she wants to make it clear that these songs are not about her. there have been multiple times throughout her career where she’s said x song isnt based on her own life and people, fans included, turn around and say she’s lying and she just doesnt want us to speculate. so she’s kind of shoving it down our throats so we will actually list to her- so it’s really our (a general our) fault that she forces it. 

and like u said at the beginning, im a big big fan of interpreting taylor’s songs the way you want and applying them to your own life and experiences and stories. its so incredibly important. and taylor also loves it. and i think she’s okay with people interpreting songs in the way she didnt intend, as long as ppl rnt putting those interpretations on her and suggesting she did x with y guy

just watched The Guy Who Didnt Like Musicals a second time. i didnt really process the songs properly the first time and didnt like them but now i can actually hear the tunes as intended and i love this whole thing so much. so im gonna ramble about this musical for a bit. spoilers ahead if u havent watched yet (its on youtube)

ive seen a few of the theories ppl have about the delivery of the musical, and about what happens at the end especially. i think i wanna try my hand at it too because sometimes i enjoy interpreting details. and im a gigantic sucker for reprises that stitch together all the songs we just heard into its own frankenstein song that completely changes in meaning or tone based on all the info we absorbed over the course of the program. and boi the last song of the show sure fuckin delivers

ok well i need to start at the beginning though. some ppl are confused by what the opening lil song and dance is within the context of the musical, because it introduces the main character, but at that point no one is infected yet so it just seems like standard musical stuff in the viewpoint of the audience, who expects this. but the entire plot of this musical is that the characters’ world slowly BECOMES a musical due to alien spores from a meteor infecting everyone to act as a harmonious hive mind. so in this sense its two musicals at the same time: the musical that starkid productions wrote, and the looser ‘musical’ that the alien entity is orchestrating during its antagonism of the main character. i believe that the opener takes place after at least a partially successful domination of the populace, mostly because of the fact that the characters who participate in that song are referring to ‘themselves’ in the third person and are dancing all hunched and menacingly, exactly how the alien spore compels people to dance later on in the plot. that plus a line that i might be recalling correctly about how the main character is their final story to tell, makes me certain that this is the alien telling that story

as for the main character paul’s absence from that song, i really think thats something intended in the musical to introduce what paul is like in the most succinct way possible. the guy just did not like musicals. throughout the plot he is constantly defining himself by his lack of participation, so of course the cheekiest way to set that up is to have him not participate in the opener. i think the confusing part here is when the story actually begins, because if the opener was performed by the future infected characters, when is the line drawn to differentiate between the two musicals that are happening (starkid musical vs alien musical)? or is the whole thing a performance by the alien entity? in which case, everyone on that stage is simply acting out the story as determined by the hive mind. but to whom, if everyone’s infected? i’ll get back to that later

another thing i love about this musical is how gradually tired of paul’s shit the alien entity becomes over the course of the plot, as evidenced by the tone of the songs. it just gets worse and worse. the alien’s songs turn from sickeningly cheerful to enticing, to threatening, to evoking hopelessness, then finally to pressuring paul past his breaking point. some of the songs arent even directed at paul but the change still happens, which goes to show the alien entity’s frustration. and at the end when the infected find emma, the song is happy again. they sing that awesome reprise, a really energetic mashup in which its hard not to feel like the alien plague is unstoppable. inevitable, one might say.

speaking of the end... paul’s confrontation with the meteor (my absolute favorite scene that i would rewatch a hundred times except i dont want to get tired of it too fast) contains good information to understanding what happens afterward. paul tries to blow it up, gets distracted by the appearance of his infected acquaintances, and the longer he stays there the more infected he himself becomes, breathing in such a heavy concentration of those alien spores at the epicenter of its activity. until now, he has rejected actively being the ‘star of the show’ like the alien seems to... want him to be? idk, the point is that his character defies musical protagonist tropes despite how the plot follows him. the story is ABOUT the alien, but paul is the audience’s anchor. until he goes to blow up the meteor. at that point, the alien has him. he can barely fight back against his own body synchronizing with the other infected as they goad him into giving in, but he puts up a damn good struggle considering those impossible circumstances. still, for the first time, he participates. he sings. he hates it, but it brings out some interesting thoughts: does he hate it? did he ever? or is this just the spores talking?

but what part, exactly, does he hate? in a musical, the singing and dancing act is usually the method of delivery for whatever the character is truly feeling. it is an opportunity for the audience to connect emotionally with the person who is singing. but we dont have that with paul for almost the entire show. he doesnt participate. and he’s established in the beginning as selfish, kind of a dick, and not available to anyone (except emma who is the only person he even slightly opens up to. he tries to be more friendly somewhat with bill, i think, but even then that couldve just been to get him to snap out of it and escape the school). he said himself that people singing and dancing makes him uncomfortable. so all this is to say that, on a deeper level, i think the aspect of the singing and dancing that he hates, that he fights to resist, is the vulnerability. you can witness the madness and shame for yourself as he sings more and more, letting out his worries, unsure if his feelings are his anymore. but hey, he ends that scene with a statement reaffirming the self he walked in with (which is to say, a guy who hates musicals) and finally pulls his grenade. so its cool that he was able to resist that but. guys. if the spores didnt get him. that grenade absolutely did. he didnt even bother to throw it away from himself, he flung it down right in front of him. theres no way he didnt get blown to bloody chunks, fully intending for that to be his final act of defiance

but i think it was too late by then. he’d already breathed in so many spores, and we were shown earlier on that death is not an impediment to becoming infected. i think after he exploded, he was still absorbed into the collective and reformed as a new addition to the hive mind. his explosives might not have been enough to fully destroy the meteor. and thats why, at the very end, i believe that - despite his admittedly suspicious face journey during the song - he isnt faking it. because if he was, wouldnt the hive mind know that it doesnt contain him within it? not only that, but in the opening song emma is clearly part of the group. given that she is the only one who is undoubtedly not infected in the last song, we have to assume that she will be sometime after the finale of the musical.

and now im left with my unexplored questions: is this a musical played straight, or a ‘musical’ put on by the alien entity after it wins? and who is the ‘musical’ intended for? its fun to speculate but im not sure these are questions that can be answered by watching it a bunch of times. theyre aimed too much outside of the zone of operation, if that makes sense. its like, you cant ever look at your own eyeballs normally. you need a mirror or for someone to describe them to you. these questions exist outside of the limitations of the musical format, so we wouldnt direct them at the video, we would ask them of the creators. or not. its cool to not have all the questions answered too

in the movies at least her naysaying / “putting the brakes on everything” trait is ascribed to her being Logical rather than being a surrogate mother, and she gets to actually be in the action and stab people in the dick in prince caspian which is an underrated movie, but it’s still like. The Girl Character Gets In The Way Of The Adventuring and her “arc” being to get the sexy boyf she deserves in the prince casp film is like, better than no real arc but also just Required Heterosexuality when a) really their “courtship” is exchanging lingering glances between caspian’s constant sexual tension with peter and b) she deserves a sexy badass gf actually, and c) what would be REALLY compelling if you’re gonna do “star-crossed lovers from literal different worlds” is like, wtf went down in that like 10 yr period thats always glossed over in which the pevensies become grownass monarchs? everyone was single when they just disappeared back to being 11 yr old english schoolchildren? and how fucked up is that fact that they got thrown back to having the complete opposite role in a different world and at a different biological age. tf

Pt1 Lu I love you. If i could explain in lengthy ways how much I love you it would take too long and too may asks on anon. Oh my god. This cryptic shit is starting to make me see stuff in a new light. I may be wrong and obviously they both play college soccer so they've met but did Seokjin sleep with Jungkook's ex? Is that why he didn't defend the mc like Hobi? Was it because he knows the mc's situation better? And don't even get me started on the fact that these two are perfect for each other.

P2 The fact that Jungkook is the mc's twin did not escape me this time. They both have strong feelings about theyre beliefs, they both fight for those beliefs to the poi t of being annoying. The way they both act when they are too drunk is uncanny. The fact that Jungkook sees Yerin in the same light as the mc did not escape me either. Treating her like a baby. Lu you brilliant beautiful girl! You've laid it all out for us but we've never noticed. Beneath kook's fuckboy act he is broken as well.

P3 They both went through life altering situations. Was the fuckboi thing a front? Just like the mc's tough bitch act? My thoughts are so jumbled I apologize if this doesn't make sense but i had to type this down. So basically Jungkook and the Mc are both putting on an act to portray what and who they want the world to see them as after being hurt. But really they're perfect for each other by being themselves. Btw obviously Taehyung would choose Hobi they honestly seem to be exactly the same.

P4 Theyre better off together cause what Tae likes about Hobi's behavior the mc does not. She is always happy around him yes but maybe that's because hes a literal ball of sunshine. He also reminds her of Tae but just with a cute face and a nice arse. She doesnt dissect his every word to find a hidden meaning. Obviously she likes Jungkook on a deep level if shes going through so much trouble to find out his motives. She thinks he will hurt her like Jin because she loves him like she loved Jin.

P5 Last one I swear. She shows no drive or passion with Hobi. She is extra cautious with Jungkook because he is the one she's afraid will break her again. She finds every little situation with him to be under a microscope or a heat lamp because she doesnt want to slip. She cant even hug him without thinking ten steps ahead.
