Also, the whole missing princess plot genuinely interests him. MC is telling him there's an assassination cover-up in a Barbie movie? Iiiinteresting.

You know that one scene where Blair and friends have to escape from a locked room using their skills and memory? That's his favorite part.

He likes the friendship and espionage and drama and fantasy political discussion. Also, there's a golden retriever.

The Island Princess

There is something that he relates to in a girl who is lost somewhere for years. Especially when she eventually makes it back to civilization, and finds how different it is -- and realizes how different she is, and how in the end, she still finds the people she lost so long ago.

And those people from years ago recognize her, and they remember her, and they still accept her for who she is even though she is now a different person to the one they lost.

(And she talks to animals, too, but Luke thinks that Peanut counts.)

Artem: Barbie as the Princess and the Pauper (oh to be loved just for who you are)

The message about being accepted for who you are and not the place you are born into hits different for him because so many only see him as that perfect, untouchable lawyer (and bonus points if they recognize him as Bryan Wing's son)

The ballad between Erika and Dominick is so Artem-coded. "In my heart I'd be glad / If you loved me for me" and "Hope will blossom by believing / The heart that lies within"? The lines strike him like an arrow to the chest

In a way, both main couples remind him of the difference in stations between him and MC -- him as a senior attorney and her still yet to take her senior exams

There is a cat. That barks.

He also sees part of himself in Julian because of the quiet leader aspects (and the beatboxing scene in the credits. He almost fell out of his chair when he saw that.)

Vyn: Barbie and the Magic of Pegasus (because horses and sass)

Vyn actually also likes The Princess and the Pauper, but Artem already took that and of course he can never be seen agreeing with Artem, so he slots that into second place and puts another film above it in his ranking

And the movie with that honor is the pegasus one

A member of royalty feeling limited by her parents? The amount of sass and banter in the film between Annika and Aidan? Vyn finds these qualities to be quite charming

He's not sure how he feels about the polar bear with the strangely long eyelashes. He's grateful that it doesn't talk, at the very least.

There are flying horses and sure, maybe the main flying horse is related to the protagonist, but haven't all nobles wished at least once for horses to be able to talk back to them at least once in their childhood?

Marius: Barbie as Rapunzel AND/OR Barbie in the Twelve Dancing Princesses (magic paintbrushes, siblings, and self-expression)

Part of how much Marius enjoys Rapunzel is because of the wonder that is so prevalent in the film. He does kind of wish he had a magic paintbrush like the one in the movie, but he's also content with enjoying the process of the artwork that he makes.

The fairytale adaptation reminds him of his own childhood when he had spent many hours reading through storybooks.

There is something about being trapped in a small space that disturbs him. It makes him root for Rapunzel.

He's also very satisfied with the way the villain meets her end.

The Twelve Dancing Princesses

Marius finds the music very charming in this one

But there's also: the haunting presence of a dead mom and how her love for them is made clear in what she left for her daughters, and an alive father who means well but does not necessarily always make the right actions

There is the value of self-expression, of refusing to conform to what an overbearing power insists on -- but there's also teamwork and taking responsibility and acting on what one believes to be right

Marius doesn't know anything about having eleven other siblings, but having one is enough to relate to the sisters' bond (especially between Genevieve and Lacey. Hasn't Giann been a Genevieve to him countless times when he was young?).

On the whole, the NXX Investigation Team has more fun than they may have first expected. That's team bonding for you :D

Undercover Princess - Chapter 2

Everything about this chapter is so nostalgic to me. I read this book at 14 years old, and hadn't been away from home for longer than a guide camp. Now looking back as someone who just graduated university, it stings a little bit. Everything about this chapter, from leaving your best friends behind (and for me my family), to go somewhere completely new and on your own, your entire being packed into some suitcases and boxes is terrifying.

But I think that this book, and this scene specifically made it easier for me to do so. It let me know at 14 that hey it'll be okay, you'll find your people, and I'm really happy I did. Shoutout to all my uni friends who follow my non-rwch tumblr ily all.

I'm sure there will be a whole rant about the mantra at the end so stay tuned for that. ANYWAY

Ollie's letter is so endearing and it really shows his personality in a really susinct way. his hurt at being left being played off as a joke, even though you can still kind of feel the tension and fear he has.

The p.s about them being given a crown on arrival reminds me instantly of Barbie Princess Charm School

I also adore that absolute direct call outs in this chapter of them going you can't just decide you wanna go to Rosewood. It really emphasises how out of her depth Lottie feels when she gets there.

The tiara story makes me cry so much, I love how it's introduced and it brings such comfort to her

Also the line about it being an heirloom and handed down with the legacy of Rosewood now looking back i'm genuinely surprised we hadn't picked up on it.

I love the whole story that tells us about the tiara and the mantra and I won't get fully into it today, but I'm not exaggerating when I say this mantra has changed my life.

While chapter 1 was a brilliant comparison of the two girls, this chapter is where we truly get to know Lottie and she her vulnerability for the first time properly. She cares deeply about everyone and everything.

My favourite part is when it says that the tiara has the power to help anyone who wears it achieve anything, just like in the opening paragraph to the series, again affirming that Lottie is that special kind of person.

Be kind, be brave, be unstoppable isn't just a powerful mantra because of the words, but who each gives her them. Bravery is given by her mother, kindness by kate, a girl who moments before picked on Lottie, but soon changed to be kind, and gave her the confidence to embrace the final word for herself. Unstoppable.

I was asked to talk more about Aoimei so have a ramble

These two will surely be introvert x extrovert gfs. Mei would be a social butterfly who isn’t exactly popular but is still well known, and Aoi would be her usual popular-but-closed-off self. I also like to hc that HKOM Mei liked Aoi prior to the love spell, though in a more subconscious way where they didn’t really talk so Mei wasn’t invested in pursuing Aoi. Then the love spell gave her more motivation

The witch x human dynamic is so cute to me. Aoimei reminds me of that one scene from Sabrina the Teenage Witch where Harvey found out about Sabrina’s powers and he said smth like “I always knew you were magical.” And Mei would absolutely convince Aoi to use her powers for pranks and shenanigans. Hexing people they don’t like, clones for two-places-at-once dilemmas, quick outfit changes, all the typical witchy hijinks. HKOM Aoi seems to be much more herself than main universe Aoi is, tbh I can’t even tell if she’s still popular in that universe. She seems a bit awkward so I think Mei would help her come out of her shell without pushing her or trying to change her. And Aoi would show Mei a whole other magical side of life that she didn’t even know existed

I mentioned in my response to the Aoimei/Meinene ask that I think Aoi would be supportive of Mei’s health issues without patronizing her. I see that going both ways, Aoi supporting Mei with her physical health while Mei support’s Aoi as she works through her mental health. Aoi accompanies Mei to doctor appointments and subtly tries to cheer her up afterwards simply by staying by her side longer; and Mei takes Aoi to her therapy appointments and doesn’t ask questions unless Aoi wants to talk about it. They would both be there for each other without intruding, and over time that would help them open up to each other more

You know how the Barbie movie sparked a lot of memes about how awkward it is having your partner serenade you? The Aoimei version of that is Mei drawing Aoi. She would draw her so often, Aoi would become her favorite thing to draw. From sketches during class to full portraits that take her days to complete. And Aoi appreciates it, of course she does, but over time it gets a little awkward. Just because Aoi hates seeing herself idolized and she doesn’t know how to handle affection, so she has to remind herself that Mei is doing it out of appreciation, not idolization. That doesn’t help much though because it only makes her 100x more flustered

I know most people hate pet names in ships but I personally love them (as long as they’re not too overused). Mei would be the type to sarcastically call Aoi “princess,” and at first Aoi hates it but overtime it grows on her. She doesn’t like the idea of being compared to royalty, but as long as it’s Mei doing it and she gets to be Mei’s princess specifically, she doesn’t mind it. Aoi would typically just call Mei by her name, but every now and then she’d throw in a “dear” and Mei would love it. Eventually it would become a regular thing

Since HKOM Aoi wears glasses I’m calling it, Mei steals them all the time. She also tries on Aoi’s witch hat whenever she can get ahold of it. And she’d lend Aoi her blazer whenever she got cold (directly after saying “damn, I can’t control the weather”). Aoimei is the type of couple to get cast as Romeo and Juliet in a school play together, or as Cinderella and Prince Charming. They’d have their chest moments for sure but overall I think their relationship would feel very natural, to the point that some people can’t tell they’re dating but they still know they’re together in some way. And that’s exactly how it is, they just want to be in each other’s presence, regardless of what that entails…if it happens to entail kissing and cheesy dates, that’s a nice bonus

I’m glad AidaIro gave us the concept of these two together, they have so much potential. I hope we get more aus that explore their dynamic, I need more content for them so bad

barbie in the princess school movie reminds me so much cinder

It is such an excellent piece of cinema, and yes, truly just Cinder's life story. But to be fair, the lost princess trope isn't exactly unique. I actually did a poll with my friends as to what are the best Barbie movies and Princess Charm School was the most highly rated from us all. It's got pink, sparkles, fairies and a malicious assassination plot--perfect for children!

Student/Teacher for the problematic troupes 💖

ah yes, the premier trope for people who did not receive enough external validation as children. it's great.

1. ships that fit it

the aforementioned twilestia and glimweaver are obvious choices, even shady magic teachers are still teachers 🫶.

krispollo is one of my favorite ships (and not just because it reminds me of feenie a lot). they have this really good back and forth with their power dynamics, and i love to think of them being attached to each other throughout everything that happens. like a back and forth predator and prey relationship, almost.

i also secretly liked clockrose a lot when i was younger, they have a really great dichotomy.

this is such a random deep cut but alexandra privet/blair willows from barbie princess charm school. there's so much lesbian tension there oh my god. excellent.

2. general opinion on it

i think i tend to like this trope more in original fiction, but it's really good. i like the forbidden aspect of it and wrestling with feelings. and the secretive nature when things do go through. plus it brings about a ton of cute interactions, teasingly commanding respect or acting super innocent when the other knows you're not. and i like to explore the idea of hierarchy and equality quite a lot.

3. ships that don't fit it but i would read

i think again this would be interesting for a lot of ships. one that comes to mind is Maxie/May? a super old ship I know lol. also so random but I think Jalex could be interesting, in some kind of AU. their chemistry knows no bounds haha.

When I was little I always wanted to be a princess- or a mermaid princess. I watched all the Disney Princess movies. When I was like eight my brother, cousin, and I were all obsessed with the Barbie Princess Charm School movie.

Rewatching that now as a teenager makes me happy because it brings back nostalgia, but also because it reminds me that there's always a chance out there for me to do something some where and because it also reminds me that I could do anything or be anything, no matter that be something small or something big

Has anyone tried to sort the characters from The Winx or the Barbie Movies ?

I assume you mean the original Winx Club and I am afraid I don't remember that enough to try and sort it. Buut I did a rewatch of (the more interesting) Barbie movies and with the help of @the-phoenix-heart @starry-sky-stuff @laufire here are the Babries we’ve sorted:

1. Clara (Barbie in the Nutcracker)- Lion Snake. The movie focuses a lot on Clara's dreams and goals. Her Snake is a bit more hidden, but she has the same quiet Snake secondary energy kids that grew up in controlling/abusive households tend to develop. Plus remember when she had to save Eric she straight up lied to the guards?

2. Rapunzel (Barbie as Rapunzel)- Double Bird; the brush is such a Bird sec tool and she has that Bird primary vibe. Not to mention this shows that you can have The (Mad) Scientist sorting with artists too 

3. Odette (Barbie in Swan Lake)-Badger Lion. Her secondary is a bit burned in the begining but she gets better. Badger because of how much she cares about literally everyone, from people to mythical animals.

4. Annelisse (Barbie in the Princess and the Pauper)- Snake Bird. Her People are her mom -for whom she might have developed a bit of a Lion model- and Julian and what other secondary would collect and classify rocks for fun?

5. Erika (Barbie in the Princess and the Pauper)- Snake Lion. She ~bonds with Annelisse which is the only reason why she goes along with Julian’s plan -her only other Person is her cat xD- and I will say Lion secondary because she is clearly Improvisional and so snippy to her employer

6. Elina (Barbie: Fairytopia series) - Double Badger. "For the friends you haven’t met” is such a Badger primary say and the only thing to get Elina out of her trance in the first movie. I hesitated between Lion and Courtier Badger but the last two movies made me choose the latter.

7. Teenage Barbie (Barbie Diaries) - Lion Badger. To quote Phoenix: “ People pleaser with dreams of being popular and a news anchor is a total Lion Badger ”

8. Genevieve (Barbie in the 12 dancing princesses) -Badger Bird. She is the one that is always willing to lend a hand and who keeps her mom's traditions alive. And she always go for logical solutions (dad is sick, call the doctor), makes the plan to defeat Rowena in the end AND when Rowena attacks her she defends herself using the fan skills she learned from the duchess herself :DD. Not to mention that she seems the most capable to rule out of all the sisters so The King sorting fits her well

9. Ro (Barbie as The Island Princess)- Bird Badger. We see her caretake in the very first minutes of the movie with Tika or how she chases away the crocodiles. I chose her primary mostly by elimination, but I think it’s fitting for a girl who has an entire song with lyrics that start with “why” and wears a peacock dress. Symbolism much xDD. Not to mentionBird Badger is The Survivor and Ro sure is one.

10. Mariposa (Barbie: Mariposa) - Lion Bird She's clearly an Intuitive primary abd the way she's carving adventure and visiting far-away places made me settle on Lion. Also it might be me, but the sentence "I don't know what's worse, failing or admiting it to people who believed in me?" sounds veeery Lion primary. She loves reading books, and uses the knowledge she gathers from them to accomplish her goal which is a very Bird secondary MO.

11. Liana (Barbie and the Diamond Castle) - Double Snake. Her Snake secondary is easy to spot: she tricks Slyder with switching the mirrors, she gets her and Alex to play music at the restaurant for a meal. It's obvious Liana is a Loyalist and for the longest time I thought she was a Badger, but a Badger would not have been happy living alone just with Alexa in their small cottage. Also, her very betrayed speech to Melody after Alexa leaves her is so Snake to me xD

12. Eden Starling (Barbie in A Christmas Carol). Snake Lion. Her primary is burned at the start of the movie and yet we can still see how she is loyal to both her dead aunt and her cat. The entire movie is about her unburning and it is cathartic to watch. Lion secondary because she is abrasive at the best of times and at the end she relies on grand gestures to make ammends.

13. Thumbelina (Barbie presents: Thumbelina)- Lion Bird. She's an inventor so the Bird is obvious. Her dedication to save her home, her adventurous spirit, and her confrontational attitude with Mackena all scream Lion primary to me.

14. Corrine (Barbie in The Three Musketeers) - Double Lion. Could the girl who lifted the ban on female Musketeers be anything else but The Revolutionary? Corrine is a dauntless improviser and very stubborn. She starts as a bit of an immature Lion who wants to fight for glory and has to learn to fight for what's right.

15. Merliah (Barbie on a Mermaid Tale)- Lion Snake. Another immaure Glory Hound Lion who learns to embrace her role as princess. I considered Lion secondary, but I am pretty sure her rival/co-protagonist in the second movie-Kylie- is one. And while they are similar, Kylie is much more direct and abrasive which makes me think Merliah is a Snake who loves to live in neutral. She's certanly charming enough to be one.

16. Actress!Barbie (Barbie in a Fashion Fairytale+Fairy Secret)- Badger Snake. She's an Exterior primary that's very affected by what the world thinks. Also note that when she wants to get away she does not go to a completely unknown place like her friends suggest, but to her aunt's fashion house because that's where she feels safe. Her determination to save both the fashion house and then Ken felt almost Lion secondary at times, but I think she's a Snake: she is an actress, the interaction with the crazy director in Fashion Fairytale points to Fluid secondary and The Advisor seems to pretty much sum up her role in the first movie.

17. Blair (Barbie in Princess Charm School)- Snake Badger. Probably the Snakiest Snake primary Barbie as everything she does is for her mom and sister. She's a hard worker as proven by both her job as a waitress than by the way she has to practice to do well in the charm school.

18. Kristyn (Barbie in the Pink Shoes)- Bird Snake. The Artist probably fits this ballerina best. She's an Improviser as the whole movie proves, yet has no Lion bone in her body. Also her glee at getting to play -not just dance the part, actually be- Giselle and Odette points to Snake secondary. Bird primary becauss when she's stuck in the plays her system automatically shifts to integrate the rules of the world she is in, no matter how crazy they are.

19. Lumina (Barbie: Pearl Princess) - Bird Badger. She craves adventure and it's most likely an External primary but has no sense of community the way Badgers do. Badger secondary because of how enthusiastic she was to have a job just because she got to work.

20. Alexa (Babrie and The Secret Door)- Bird Lion. All her daydreaming and escapist fantasies made me think Bird primary. I chose burned Lion secondary because in a lot of ways, Alexa reminded me of well, me.

21. Starlight!Barbie (Barbie: Starlight Adventure)- Badger Lion. She cares about people and animals a lot and well, she is an hoverboarder and a daredevil.

ETA: 22. Annika (Barbie and The Magic of Pegasus) - Lion Snake. Her sneaking out plus her Oedypuss style deception points to Snake secondary. Her rebllious and passionate nature as well as her determination point to Lion primary.

Barbie Movies Explained But I Haven’t Seen Them In Many Years

I’ve seen some barbie stuff on my dash lately, and as a former lover of barbie movies, I’ve decided to post about them. The thing is, I don’t remember much. It’s been a long time since I’ve watched one. Over 6 years at least, and my memory is foggy when it comes to media I’ve mass confused. And I watched a lot of barbie movies, so they definitely blended together. I liked feminine things as a kid, the dolls were nice textures and I liked fantasy, so it worked out well. I also liked masculine things, such as Legends of Chima and Ninjago. But we’re not talking about those.

Barbie and the Diamond Castle 

Pretty sure this one was my favorite

I had a doll of the brunette one that sings, I still have it and it works

I remember a castle, a harp, and singing. Also some vines and a thing that looked like a bar but with a lot of benches.

Who’s the villain? I don’t remember

Barbie in a Mermaid Tale 

I remember nothing other than the main character has pink streaks in her hair

I remember that I really liked this movie
