Just deleted my fic from Ao3 because it made me sad. It was not a story I enjoyed, I wrote it thinking I will have fun with it but I mostly felt ashamed while looking at it - everyone makes mistakes and I kept it there for a while thinking that well, I don't have to read it or look at it ever again, so what's the harm and all that 'everything is part of your writing journey'. But that only works for things that might be bad quality-wise but still bring you some joy.
I think what stopped me were all those posts about not deleting your fics, even the most unpopular ones, because someone out there loves them for sure and it might be their favourite fic ever, they are just too shy to say. It is probable, of course.
But I realized now that I've been keeping a thing that was actively making me sad just for an off chance that some unnamed person might like this fic, I will just never know it. It's my time of looking at it and feeling dispirited, traded for a 'maybe'.
I felt good deleting that fic. I won't miss it and I don't think anyone else will. But it is weird how long I kept on holding off this decision because of 'someone maybe' and this idea that I am obliged to take others feelings about my writing over mine.

We were so close to smoking not being cool anymore. We were so close. Then they flavored it mango and now it's taboo to criticize it anymore. People don't ask if they're allowed to vape indoors, they aren't considerate of people who may have health problems that are triggered by the chemicals or if it just bothers them, people don't care that they're supporting an industry built on corruption and greed, they can't see it draining their pockets and much less their health. We were so close to smoking not being cool anymore.

DP x DC: The Most Dangerous Card Game
Ok so Danny has essentially claimed earth as his. And he is fully aware that there are constant threats to the planet. Now he can’t stop a threat that originates on earth (that’s something he’ll leave to the Justice league) but he can do something about outside threats. Doing some research on ancient spells, rituals, and artifacts, he cast a world wide barrier on the planet to protect it from hostile threats so they cannot enter. This will prevent another Pariah Dark incident. However, barriers like this come at a price. You see, there are two ways to make a barrier. Either make one powered up by your own energy and power (which would be constantly draining) or set up a barrier with rules. The way magic works is that nothing can be absolutely indestructible. It must have a weakness. The most powerful barriers weren’t the ones reinforced with layer after layer of protective charms and buffed up with power. Those could eventually be destroyed either by being overpowered, wearing them down, or by cutting off the original power source. No, the most powerful barriers were the ones with a deliberate weakness. A barrier indestructible except for one spot. A cage that can only be opened from the outside. Or that can only be passed with a key or by solving a riddle. So Danny chooses this type of barrier and does the necessary ritual and pours in enough power to make it. And he adds his condition for anyone to enter.
Now the Justice league? Find out about the barrier when Trigon attempts to attack, they were preparing after he threatened what he would do once he got to earth. How he would destroy them. The Justice league tried to take the fight to him first but were utterly destroyed, so they retreated home to tend to their injuries, and fortify earth for one. Last. Stand. Only when Trigon makes his big entrance…he’s stopped.
The Justice league watch in awe as this thin see-through barrier with beautiful green swirls and speckled white lights like stars apears blocking Trigon and his army’s advance. The barrier looks so thin and fragile yet no matter how hard the warlord hits, none of his attacks can get through and neither can he damage said barrier. That’s when Constantine and Zatanna recognizes what this barrier is. Something only a powerful entity could create. For a moment, the league is filled with hope that Trigon can’t get through yet Constantine also explains that it’s not impenetrable. And clearly Trigon knows this too for he calls out a challenge.
And that’s when, in a flash of light, a tiny glowing teenager appears. He looked absolutly minuscule compared to Trigon and yet practically glowed with power (this isn’t a King Danny AU though).
And that is when the conditions for passing the barrier are revealed. And the Justice realize that the only thing stopping Trigon and his army from decimating earth. The only way he can get through….is by beating this glowing teenager in a card game.
Not just any card game though. The most convoluted game Sam, Danny, and Tucker invented themselves. It’s like the infinite realms version of magic the gathering, combined with Pokémon, and chess. And Danny is the master. So sit down Trigon and let’s play.
(The most intense card game of the Justice league’s life).
After Danny wins, this happens a few more times with outer word beings and possibly even demons attempting to invade earth, yet none have been able to beat the mysterious teenager in a card game. Constantine might even take a crack at it and try to figure out how to play. He’s really bad though. Every time this happens, the Justice league worry that this might be the time the teenager looses. Yet every time, he wins (even if only barely).
Meanwhile, Danny, Sam, and Tucker have gotten addicted to the game and play it almost daily. Some teachers might seem them playing the game are are like ‘awww how cute’ not realizing this game is literally saving the world. Jazz is just happy they aren’t spending as much time on their screens playing Doomed.

I find it funny that Wild, who has basically a couple years ish of full life experience, comes up with the most insane theories for everything
He assumed that the only other explanation to Four being able to split in Four was. That he was quadruplets who'd been hiding this whole time???
Also apparently he believed that his wolf companion Twilight in botw was a diety (and felt very uhh shocked upon finding out that he was not)
Malon made things worse, telling him about her aliens theory
What's even FUNNIER is that every time Wild expresses any sort of confusion at magic stuff that he's never seen before, everyone else in the chain acts like it's crazy for him to be weirded out by it
Honestly maybe Wild's the only one with his head on straight, rather than everyone else who are just like 'it's magic bro' like no he's right this is weird
I appreciate this because it's very considerate of the fact that he woke up with no memories not too long ago, so he doesn't have much experience to explain the stuff that's 'normal' for the chain. Plus the explanations he comes up with are funny.
:)

I also would like people to give more appreciation to the great thematic unity in all of The Lord of the Rings. The idea is “do what good you can with what you are given.” Usually your abilities and your chances seem horribly small, even though your responsibility is so enormous. The minutes, the little decisions, the days, the small towns, the small characters, matter the most. The fate of the whole big world of good and evil and languages and races and heroes and villains all hangs on what’s done by a little scholar and his gardener.

Do you ever catch yourself humming Mechs songs without realizing?
Yes and no. Most of the Mechs songs are riffing on existing folk tunes, sea shanties, trench songs, etc, because we all shared a deep love of that sort of music. Most of them were based on songs I already knew very well, and those songs still rattle around in my head pretty frequently, so while it's rare I find myself humming Mechanisms songs specifically, I will often be singing to myself the songs they come from. It's rare, for instance, that I find myself humming 'Cinders Song', but 'Haul Away Joe' is deep in my soul. It's unlikely I'll be singing 'Underworld Blues' to myself, but Geeshie Wiley's 'Last Kind Words' is a perennial favourite.

Tolkien doesn't get enough credit for his excellent description of just how shitty it would be to float down a river in (or on) a barrel.

oh okay heres one:
"sleepaway camp"= you go there for at least a few days, a week, sometimes several weeks, and sleep there, as opposed to a """camp""" where you go for the day and your parents or whoever picks you up afterward (those arent really camps, but like. idk when i went to "space camp" it was a weeklong but not sleepaway). in the U.S. at least, the typical image of a sleepaway camp involves staying in cabins, dunno how common it is/what it looks like in other countries.
for the first few i just mean like. not necessarily a stealth church camp, just like. idk, a camp where theres also an Assumption Of Christianity and just general vibes without being actually church camp. So, there might not be daily services and jesusy dedicatwd activities, but maybe theres still a prayer said over meals and shit. Which i assume might exist...
(oh and @reblogforsamplesize if u wanna)

hilarious that with each new day that passes a new bit of dirt from JD Vance's past gets discovered and plastered over the internet...it's almost as if this is why presidential campaigns have always announced their running mates well before the convention...so that if glaring issues with a candidate came to light quickly there would be time to replace them on the ticket before they were officially locked in...it's almost as if certain things in political campaigns were done for a reason, donald...because the very same critical failures had happened before...but no i'm sure you and your guys attempt to recreate a fantasy version of history while ignoring all the reasons that history was a disaster will work this time...because you are built different and the 10000th time trying fascism will work like a charm...

I think the least canon thing in all of LoZ is the map. Every single game it changes so irreparably—"Zora's Domain is out east- oh, sorry, I mean all the way up north. It's east again now! Oh, the volcano? That's in the northeas-WEST. NORTHWEST. No that's snowy area now it's east again. Hyrule Castle is in the middl- nort- west of the country. Can't miss it. The Temple of Time is there- no it isn't, it's about as far from the castle as you can get. The Lost Woods? It's called 'Lost' for a reason, we can't find it. Ever."

im so glad that we never get a clear picture of sophie’s background in leverage & i hope we never do. however i also really like making up various, often conflicting backstories for her in my head. perhaps they’re all backstories for an alias of hers, ones she laid to rest back in season two.

laudna might be horrifically corrupted by an endlessly evil and manipulative presence but she does have a fair fucking point and i wish someone in the party explicitly stood up for that. it's inappropriate to assume that the people around you will be comfortable with you wielding the blade that they lost their life by, or watched their love die by. just because you died by it and your love died by it and you still want to use it to strengthen yourself and for poetic justice doesn't mean that everyone with that experience will be able to stomach it, let alone support it
and laudna especially, plunged into darkstone for what felt like a lifetime because of it and struggling for weeks on end to come to terms with how she was changed by it. the implied trauma olympics of "that sword is orym's to do with what he wants" is so invalidating to the complicated, messy, scary, ugly experiences and feelings that laudna (and fearne) has attached to it. it doesn't matter the body count of loved ones felled by the thing, it only matters how each person is affected by it
