An Apocalyptic Romance
Cha Hyun-Su x Reader
Requested: "Why do you keep hanging around me?! Go with her, don't you like her?!" "But I like you." @leedosbunnyboy
Word Count: 2.4k
Warnings: A lot. Suicide mention, self harm (not only Hyun-Su), reader smokes and has a nicotine addiction, blood, trauma, shock, canon level violence, PTSD, survivor's guilt, everything in canon just with reader in it
Author's Note: After writing this I don't even want to write for the MCU anymore. I'm just not into that anymore, so let me know about that. It was my birthday on monday. And let's just say that it was a birthday.
~
It wasn't like in the movies. Yes, some people stepped up and some people wielded weapons to defend themselves against the monsters. But it wasn't like that.
No one relished power or freedom in this new world. No one enjoyed being the product of a science fiction novel. This wasn't how anyone's future was supposed to go.
Your neighbor had just moved in a month or so ago. His hair almost covered his eyes and at first, the only sign that he was alive was the weekly ramen deliveries that showed up at his door. If you hadn't seen those, you would have thought that there was no one living there at all.
You both happened to peek out your door at the same time when you heard loud screeching from down the hallway. Slowly following a trail of torn apart ramen packet heading toward your across the hall neighbor- a model.
When you saw her dead cat's skull scrape across the floor, being dragged by a disturbing and grotesque blood-soaked hand, you weren't able to stifle your scream. Luckily, he quickly slapped his hand over your mouth and moved slowly back away.
Your feet were planted on the ground. You couldn't move, couldn't breathe. You barely recognized it when he wrapped the arm that wasn't over your mouth around your torso and began to drag you with what little upper body strength he had.
In the moment, you were too terrified to even pick your feet off the ground, which was almost a saving grace, but unfortunately, your neighbor was too busy making sure you didn't scream and kill you both, that he didn't do the same.
The crunch of the dry noodles made you both freeze in place. After this you weren't so scared of the noise your mouth would make when you opened it, so you screamed as loud as you possibly could and your neighbor grabbed your hand and you ran together towards the door to his apartment.
You couldn't tell what was behind you and you didn't want to know. All you knew was that the soles of your shoes were covered in the cat's blood, and you were shivering in fear. You couldn't even will yourself to cry.
Your neighbor had a different reaction. He stared into space, in shock. It was at this moment that you realized you didn't even know the name of the man who saved your life.
"Um, what, what is your name again." You stuttered, unaware of how you should even approach this situation.
His gaze at the door was unwearying. "Cha Hyun-Su," His voice and his body didn't react, almost like his brain was already so traumatized that this situation was just like weight on a broken scale.
"My- my name is (y/n)."
He turned his head to face you, and you almost saw a glimmer of something in his eye, but he didn't say a word.
Hyun-Su might've said something in that moment, but you would never know, because the doorbell rang and interrupted your eye contact, causing you both to stare at the red door in terror.
He grabbed a bat and slowly walked towards the door, eventually reaching it and look on at the security camera monitor. You heard him mutter underneath his breath something about her hands until you heard loud feedback like sound and a body-shaped dent rammed into the door. Hyun-soo backed away in terror and held up the hockey stick in defense position. You grabbed an X-Acto knife you found lying on the ground next to his bed and clutched it close to your chest, frozen in fear.
The both of you stayed perfectly still for another few minutes until the ramming finally backed away. Hyun-Su ran to his computer and sat down in his gaming chair, as you stayed in place as if someone had covered you in a block of ice and left you to thaw.
Hyun-soo muttered to himself and you stayed still, for at least 45 minutes. Unmoving and incredibly, incredibly fazed.
Slowly, you and your neighbor had figured out the basic rules of this new universe.
Don't confront the monsters, never get a nose bleed, don't make a sound, always save others, and never leave Green Home.
Over time, you found something with Hyun-soo that you could never find anywhere else.
It wasn't perfect. It couldn't be in an imperfect world. But the way you looked at Hyun-soo when you thought that he wasn't looking was the most perfect thing there was here.
You didn't talk about it. Somehow talking about it would make it real, and reality can be twisted and ruined.
When Hyun-soo's nose started bleeding on the first few days of your alliance, you were terrified. But you pulled yourself together because no one could have been more terrified than him. As wrong and badly motivated as it is, you trusted him to tell you if he thought he would hurt you.
Together you decided to take the fight to the monsters or die trying.
There was screaming outside of your window. Kids, screaming for their father from several floors above. You watched in horror as the monster tore their father from their building, and he fell onto the ground below.
By this time Hyun-soo was at the window with you today too. You managed to distract the monster and fight him off, and you set off on a mission to save the children.
On your quest, you met Dusik Hahn, a wheelchair-bound man who made weapons for you to fight off the monsters with. He made a knife stick for Hyun-Su, and he took your small Exacto knife and made it into a deadly dagger for close-range combat. Not exactly a situation you wanted to be in, but a situation you might as well be prepared for.
You made the slow journey to save the kids and ran into another group of two, the bassist that you heard thumping through your floor sometimes, and a god-devoted teacher wielding a sword.
You had managed to recognize the monster-hunting the children and narrowly rescued the kids in the meantime.
Right as you had made your way out of the direct danger, Hyun-Su stopped. His nose was bleeding.
"Take the children." He said, clutching his nose.
"Hyun-" You said, reaching for him and trying to help him.
"TAKE THE CHILDREN AND RUN!"
You didn't want to argue, you ran down the stairs and hid yourself and the children in a closet, praying to whatever cruel god was out there that Hyun-Su would be the one walking down those stairs and not a monster.
There was a thumping noise coming down the stairs, and you covered both the children's mouths and clamped yours shut. You only opened your mouth when you could see very clearly that it was Hyun-Su and not a monsterized version of himself.
You let out a sigh of relief and threw the door open, wrapping your arms around Hyun-Su and his blood-soaked hoodie. He awkwardly patted you on the back, body as stiff as a board, as that was the extent of what you could really do.
You didn't talk about what happened to him, or that you saw his eyes turn blackout of the corner of your eyes. He wasn't the same as he was before, but he wasn't fully a monster either. It was the only Hyun-Su that you had ever known. And you like what you see.
You dropped off the kids at Dusik's apartment and set off on a journey to the lobby on the ground floor.
There weren't that many monsters that attacked you on your journey down. You ignored all the ones that ignored you.
When you reached the first floor you saw a ghastly sight. Many of your neighbors were there, and they all looked entirely broken. You got the situation you described to by Eun-Hyuk, a medical student that you had seen around the building and working on his laptop in cafes near the apartment complex.
Everyone seemed pretty nice, except for the asshole convenience store owner. Some people hated Eun-Hyuk, but you felt bad for him. He didn't want to let that girl die and he didn't want to hurt people, he was just trying to save as many people as he could, and being a hero couldn't be easy.
You met his sister Eun-Yoo, you had seen her dancing on the roof when you went up there to breathe and to smoke. She seemed taken to Hyun-Su, and he seemed a little bit smitten by her. You hate to admit it, but you felt jealous.
She was beautiful, and feminine, and unapologetic, all the things that you weren't. He couldn't not like her.
When the rest of the neighbors found out that Hyun-Su was some sort of monsterized version of himself, there was naturally an uproar.
It was entirely silent when all of the residents were crammed into the preschool room, silently waiting for Eun-Hyuk to tally the results of the vote.
It was a tie. A perfect tie, between banishment and acceptance. Because that's how it always seems to go.
The nasty convenience store owner, Suk-Hyun, was screaming at Hyun-Su, right up until his nose began to bleed. He started pleading for his life, and Hyun-Su walked up at tallied the vote against himself, only to make sure Suk-Hyun went in with him.
When Hyun-Su and Suk-Hyun were trapped in an empty office, you brought him ramen and sat down in front of the chained storefront and ate with him.
Silently, you sat together. What you didn't know, is that whenever you were looking down Hyun-Su was looking at you.
Over the next week a lot of stuff happened, you rescued more people, lost some, been through more tragedy and trauma than anyone should have to go through in their entire life, and throughout it all, you and Hyun-Su stayed stuck together.
Hyun-Su and Eun-Yoo grew closer, they would talk together and you would often see her staring at him from across the room.
Eun-Yoo was good, and she was kind to the people that deserved it. Sure, she was violent, mildly sadistic, and cold, but she was still a good person. Yet you hated her. You hated her because Hyun-Su wanted her more than he wanted you.
It wasn't like you to be a jealous or pretentious or possessive person, but you wanted Hyun-Su more than you wanted most things. And sometimes life just works out that way. In horrible, jealous and violent ways.
You were sitting with Hyun-Su in an empty hallway on the first floor. You were both trying to ignore the fact that the door you were guarding had the bodies of a 10-year-old and a soldier behind it.
This world wasn't fun or easy. It was an adventure and it wasn't an epic. It was just real life. And real life is broken. You saw the scars on Hyun-Su's wrist when his hoodie sleeve rode up. You saw the way he looked at the sobbing mother mourning her daughter. You overheard Eun-Yoo talking about Hyun-Su killing himself.
You had scars on your body too. Cigarette burns across your hands from where the butt fell off, times where you pushed it into the palm of your hand and the sides of your finger when you were drunk or too tired to run it under water or throw it out the window and all you could do is lay there and take the pain.
Real-life was broken. Hyun-Su was broken. You were broken. This world is broken.
You realized that in your self-sabotaging state you had let a tear slip out of the corner of your eye.
"(y/n)." Hyun-Su was looking up at you from his ramen.
"Oh, uh sorry." You took your finger and wiped your tear away. He had enough on his plate already, he didn't need to know the raging jealousy that was growing inside you.
You were Hyun-Su's friend. He was your friend. He didn't love you, you were the person he could trust to remain consistent. He might not have loved Eun-Yoo, but he didn't love you. He couldn't love you.
"What's wrong (y/n)?" He was too pure. Someone who's been through so much and done so many bad, bad messed up things couldn't be that pure.
You didn't say anything. You took your spork and put another spoonful of hot ramen into your mouth. It burned a little bit, but you didn't mind.
"(y/n)?" He put down his food and scooted a little bit closer to you, still as shy as always "I need to know you're okay."
The link in the chain around your heart finally broke, "I'm not okay." You run your hand over your head as you look up at him, "You like Eun-Yoo, and that's okay, so why are you hanging out with me? I'm nothing compared to her!"
You finally shouted, agony stabbing through the heart that is no longer protected.
You put the ramen down and it kicks over when you stand up, water and noodles falling everywhere all over the floor. You don't even care, you just need to get away from Hyun-Su. You're walking away with a stomp when a hand grabs your wrist. It's Hyun-Su, obviously. Curse his weird half-monster superpowers.
"But I don't like Eun-Yoo," he grabs your other hand. "I like you."
It never even occurred to you that Hyun-Su could even like you a little bit. It was more like a fever dream that could never come true but that you can still fantasize about.
"What?" You ask, still not believing him.
He pulls you closer to him, little by little "I like you, (y/n)." This is the most assertive and straightforward that you had ever been. It shocks you. But he said your name, which means that he must mean you. He must mean you.
Before you realize it you are in his embrace and your arms are wrapped around each other. Finally allowed yourselves to be vulnerable within the comfort of one another.
You don't need to say anything, and neither does he, you both know exactly what to do now- just be there.
"Fucking finally," You both turn around and see Eun-Yoo standing at the end of the hall, a cigarette dangling from her mouth and a smirk on her lips.

Smile With Teeth
Part 1
Chishiya x Fem!Reader
{ Alice in Borderland Master List }
Summary: Chishiya hated his life before the Borderlands. He hated everything about it and he felt that it wasn’t satisfactory. Nothing was keeping him going, except you. You, his fiancé, are the only thing that’s keeping him going. Both to stay living, and to get out of the Borderlands. He did some pretty messed up things to try to get back to you. Only to find out, you were in Borderlands all along.
Inspired by: THIS POST by this amazing writer @ithehellisbucky Go check out their works when you get a chance!
Warnings: Spoilers for the manga & show, This story is 18+.
Notes: Firstly, the only spoilers for the manga is that I'm taking real material from the manga found on Fandom and the parts I'm taking from the show is all from season 1. I have not read the manga or what happens after the 10 of Hearts game, so I won’t be going off what happens in the Second Stage. Secondly, although the post I linked above did inspire me to write this, it won’t be alike at all. They wrote about Niragi and a pregnant reader. While I’m writing about our darling Chishiya and his fiancé (you). Thirdly, I also posted this on AO3 if you want to read it there. Here’s the LINK. Lastly, yes I know this is a lot, but anything in italics is a flashback/backstory. Now, without any further a due... Enjoy Curious Cats! ఌ

(=^ェ^=)(=^ェ^=)(=^ェ^=)(=^ェ^=)(=^ェ^=)
Chishiya has done some very bad things in his lifetime.
He's killed, betrayed, stole, and now just set someone on fire. I guess that includes arson to the mix.
He's done things that people in the real world would send him to prison or even an asylum for. But, he doesn't care about the repercussions. He'll say and do anything to get back to the real world. Anything to get back to her.
His world. His life. His reason for existing. His fiancé, Y/n Y/l.
Although she would call herself Mrs. Chishiya. Just the thought of her calling herself that brings a smile to his face. Not a fake, half assed one either. A real one with teeth and all.
Even during the worst of times he smiles thinking about her. Even after he just set someone on fire and tumbling off the roof top of The Beach, he can smile to your face and the thought of your voice.
Everyone has their own reasons on why they want to return to the real world. Chishiya's reason is singular.
You.
If it wasn't for you, he would probably not even mind staying in the Borderlands. At least here he can be appreciated for his intelligence instead of forgotten by his family.
But, you don't belittle him. You didn't ignore him. You made him enjoy life and all it had to offer.
You both met during your first years of college. He was studying Biology to later become a Doctor, and you were studying Psychology to later work in a mental health ward at a hospital.
Chishiya sat at the back desk in his first class of the school year. He looked around at his fellow students and saw exactly what he expected: People just trying to get by. They don't want to be there and neither does he, but they do it to appease the people that birthed them and claim to be smarter then them.
That's what he's doing, after all. Anything to get more than a few words from his parents. When he told his father he wanted to be a doctor - a surgeon to be exact - his father actually looked up from his paperwork. He didn't say anything, but to Chishiya that was enough.
Everyone around him was trying to find seats that didn't involve sitting next to people they don't know. A few girls in the front started giggling when they realized they were in the same class. This made Chishiya roll his eyes. Why is it so important to have friends when in a few years you won't even remember their names?
Chishiya never had friends. He had acquaintances and people that he could use to get ahead in life, but no friends.
The seats were starting to be all taken and Chishiya looked at his watch to see it was only 3 minutes before class would start.
Some girl tried sitting next to him, but he mumbled, "Seats taken."
The girl huffed and walked away.
There was only two seats left in class. The one next to him in the back corner of the class, and one in the second row. Chishiya would never sit up front. He prefers the back where everyone can forget about him even being there and observe others on what they do. He also can laugh at those that make stupid mistakes this way. They can't hear him if they decide to forget about him.
Only a minute left before class and just when he thinks no one else will join the class, someone sits down next to him.
He tries telling them, by not looking at them, "Seats taken."
"No it's not," The person contracts with a laugh.
Chishiya turns to look at whoever decided it was a good idea to sit next to him, and is surprised to see a girl he actually finds attractive.
She has her hair in a high pony tail that exposes her slim neck. She's wearing simple clothing like jeans and a navy long sleeved top with a low neckline. He's able to see her white sports bra peek out the sides of her shirt since her neck line is on the lower side. Not scandals, but enough for the style. She has her legs crossed and he sees that she has basic black flip-flops on. Her legs are thin, but her thighs are the type that other guys would want to hold and never let go of while in bed.
Chishiya isn't blind, but he rather stay away from girls that look attractive. Attractiveness leads to crushes, then dating, and marriage. All things he doesn't need in his life.
He continues to stare at you like you lost your mind, and you ignore him. You're just rummaging through your bag to try an find a pen, and a notebook to use for class.
He tries to tell you more firmly, "This seat is taken. Look, there's a seat right up there."
You just sigh to yourself. This guy is really going to make you explain yourself? You finally turn to the blonde headed man and greet him with a smile. '
"Look, I know this seat isn't taken. It's 1 minute until class starts and if this seat were taken they would already be here. You were probably the first person to enter this class so you could make sure no one sat next to you or took the backseat. Am I correct?"
Chishiya just stares at you. He was speechless by how correct and spot on you were.
When he doesn't answer, you hum in a satisfied tone because you didn't need confirmation to know you're correct.
"With that being said, you look like a guy that only wants to be surrounded by other intelligent people so you sit in the back to be ignored by all those you believe are beneath you. If you were actually waiting for someone to take this seat, they wouldn't have came into class this late. Intelligent people stay with intelligent people. It's basic math, really. I’m only late because there were no parking spots."
Chishiya is stunned by everything you were saying. He couldn't help, but be intrigued by you. That's why he even asked you a question next because he wants to know how you got this smart.
"How do you know all this?"
The professor just walks into class that moment so you go back to facing the head of the class. You still answer him with a knowing smirk.
"I'm a Psychology major. It's important for us crazies who want to treat other crazies to know why people do certain things. You wouldn't sit in the back of the class if you wanted others to notice you.”
This actually brings a smile on Chishiyas face. Not a fake one either but an impressed one. It surprises him that a complete stranger like you created this reaction from him, but that was something for him to think about later.
"Interesting."
"Not interesting just observant. Names Y/n, by the way."
"Shuntarō - Shuntarō Chishiya."
"Nice to meet you Chishiya."
His eyebrow raised at you calling him by his last name. That's what most people call him, but without even asking you understood this information. His parents are the only ones that call him by his first name, and it's usually when they are with other people they want to impress, so they bring up their neglected son, and all his accomplishments even though they haven't spoke a full conversation with him in years.
From that day forward, he actually enjoyed going to this class, but it wasn't for what he was studying that made him happy to be there.
Unlike his parents, you and Chishiya continue these conversations throughout the semester. It isn't until the week before finals that he asks you to hang out with him outside of class. You smiled at him and said, "I was wondering when you would ask me."
Then the rest is history. Dates happened, first kisses, and first intimacies. Even conversations about moving in together were talked about. He loved you enough to even get a special ring and get down on one knee for you. He loved you enough to want to hear your corny jokes everyday. He wants to hold you when he wakes up and then kiss you on your forehead before he falls asleep next to you. He loves you so much he wants you to be in his life forever.
This was before love became a weakness. This was before the games twisted his reality and made him do terrible things. Terrible things just to get back to the person he loves most. Things just so he can hear you laugh one more time. He would even be okay with having you force him into a crazy adventure like rock climbing or skating like you always do. Although he seems like he hates your crazy ideas of fun, he loves the fact you're so full of life and understand him.
You understand him so well, that after graduation you both applied to the hospital Chishiya's family owned. You wanted to stay by him and remind him everyday that there's someone who loves him.
It wasn't the plan for you, at first. But you saw through Chishiya's fake facade the second you met him. He needed someone like you in his life. He needed someone to remind him the joys of life.
He studied to become a doctor for two reasons. One, so he could maybe - just maybe - get a 'well done son' from his father. He didn't. Reason number two, if he didn't feel life had purpose then maybe saving lives would help him. This didn't happen either.
You joined the hospital and he understood your reasons as to why. Although you were in different parts of the hospital, you would still find a way to be near him and made sure he smiled a real smile at least once a day. This was the reason he stayed in his field. Not to save someone from some how getting a fork in their stomach, but to see how you could make him smile next at work.
His true smile only came out for you, and that's the same now.
After Niragi fell off the roof top, Chishiya slithered his way to the floor just above the lobby. He had many ways of staying hidden at The Beach and even in the games. Hearts games weren't his specialty, and he knew this ever since the beginning, but just as expected Arisu figured out who really was the witch. Chishiya was surprised that Arisu figured out it was Momoka herself, but not as surprised as he was when Asahi reveled she was the Dealer of that game, but still surpirsed.
After Niragi somehow survived the fall and remerged with so many burns on his flesh, Chishiya escaped the scene pretty quickly. He didn't leave completely, but went far enough away to make sure Niragi didn't want to enact revenge onto him.
Chishiya only returned to the lobby area when everyone was gone so he could be the one that got the Ten of Hearts card.
As he held that smooth paper card in his hand, he smiled. Not a big enough smile for his teeth to show, but a smile none the less. He knew in that moment that he was one step closer to returning to you. He knew there was one more step just for the simple fact that no mystical force or beams came down to return him to the real Tokyo when he held all the cards together.
Kuina eventually found him at the top of the stairs. Unlike everyone else he's ever betrayed or failed their trust, he never did anything to Kuina. Maybe it was because she reminded him so much of you that he just couldn't betray her or use her for an alternative motive. He's not sure if that's the reason exactly, since in a way everyone around Chishiya has been used by him. He can't put a finger on it, but he also doesn't have the need to care.
After Kuina and him joined forces once again, he remembered the drawing the 'tagger' had in the 5 of Spades game. It was in that moment he realized what it could be.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
He needs to stop underestimating Arisu's intelligence. For the third time since meeting him, he has figured out something that Chishiya took way longer to figure out. He should view it as competition, but instead he'll just keep using it for his advantage. Having someone close by that's specialty is Hearts never hurt anyway.
Mira just announced that there will be more games. Everyone was disappointed in the fact that they are going to be put through more death defying games. Chishiya was too, but he didn't voice his exact opinion. Nobody knew why, or more importantly, who he wanted to get back to Tokyo for. Not even Kuina knew his whole story. That is why he needed to play this off as not as big of a deal when he said, "I don't hate that idea."
Referencing to the idea of more games.
In the corner of his eye he could see Usagi and Arisu judging him by his comment, but he didn't care. He's been playing off the 'I don't care' vibe for a long time, and this won't be changing just because he's a few more games away from going back home.
He's just one more step away from being with you. One step away from returning to his beloved and holding you in his arms again. That's all he'll ever care about.
If only he knew, you were in Borderland the entire time...
You heard a loud explosion when you were on your way back to your hide out. You just finished a 4 of Hearts game, and of course nailed the game like no tomorrow. Unlike everyone else you've ever met in Borderland, Hearts games were the games you were most okay with playing. They were basically made for a mind like yours. Yeah it was super upsetting when someone died from a game, may even stay on your conscious for awhile, but making friends and saving lives weren't on your todo list. The only thing that was on your todo list was figuring out how to get out of this death filled world.
You had a fiancé and a future happy life waiting for you. You rubbed the diamond ring on your ring finger absent mindfully with your thumb. Every time you looked at your ring your fiancé proposed to you with, your body fills with hope.
Hope that he's waiting for you on the other side. Hope he hasn't done anything further to get him in more trouble at his family's hospital without you there to vouch for him. Most importantly, you hoped Chishiya was smiling at least once a day. With teeth to be exact. Oh, how you loved that smile. That smile is what you thought about every night you went to bed in your hideout, and every morning when you realize he's not next to you. Anything to keep you going another day so you can return to him one day.
You decide the explosion peeked your interest enough to go figure out where it was coming from. Nothing better to do with 4 days on your visa then do something crazy. You were always the more crazy of the bunch. Even to your family you were considered the crazy one. Just like Chishiya, you didn't have the best relationship with your parents because your views on life were so out there they considered you unstable. Hell, the first day you met Chishiya you told him you were a crazy trying to heal other crazies. It's why you fell in love with Psychology to begin with after all. To figure out how the mind works.
This craziness of yours also brought you to a place like this. A burnt up and in shambles hotel building that looks to have just exploded. There are hundreds of dead bodies around, and they’re all wearing... swimsuits?
Looks like this place was used as a game arena, but you weren't sure what type of game arena this would be used for exactly.
Just as you were about to go deeper into the burnt up hotel to investigate more, you heard someone cough close by. You turned around and saw movement coming from under another dead body. You walked over, like without a care in the world, and pushed the dead body with your foot. When you did that it reveled a half naked man underneath.
The second the dead body was kicked off of him, he screamed out in agony. Your eyes widen at the screeching that came from the man. As you looked more closely, you realized the man was burnt like a crisp. You sighed to yourself and were about to turn away. No need to help someone who's about to die anyway.
“Wait!"
You stopped in your tracks as you heard him call out to you.
"H-help me."
Well now you felt like an asshole. I guess this man had more juice in him than you thought. You knew there wasn't much you could really do. You worked in a hospital, but unlike your fiancé you knew nothing about anything medical. Even if you scraped your knee you would ask Chishiya to fix it. You had to resist an inappropriate timing smile when thinking about Chishiya putting a band-aid on your bruises and scratches, then kissing them after, like a child. To others it may seem weird or even toxic on how much you two relied on each other, but it worked for the both of you.
With him in mind, you decided to turn around on your heals and help the man. Chishiya may have not liked people, outside of you, but saving people was his job and if you could figure out someway to save this nameless man, then you would feel a little closer to your beloved.
You helped the guy stand up and held most of his weight on your shoulder as you both walked out of the fire that was still blooming. It wasn't until you were back on the path you came from that you asked this mysterious man a question.
"So, what's your name tater tot?"
You felt the man tense up and it was in that moment you saw the glint of a piercing from inside his mouth. A tongue piercing, maybe?
"Niragi."
Hmm, interesting name.
I’ll see you in a minute
summary: Thanos has returned, but the battle is not over, and if there’s any person in the world who can finish the job is you, but you can’t do it alone, your loved one will have to help you get through it all.
I’ll see you in a minute
The world has changed, everything looks darker, gloomier, as if everyone is seeing through a veil or a grey filter. Sad faces fill up the streets, untold stories walk among the living, scared to be discovered but yelling in silence to be heard, to be told, to finally find peace and solace over something that happened in the brink of an eye. How was anyone supposed to know that the only battle that should have been won had been lost, in their own faces, not many worlds away and without a choice to fix it in the near future. With one snap everything had changed, people gone in clouds of dust in just a matter of seconds, no one really knowing what had happened but with one serious thought in their heads. For once, they had lost.
Five years of pain and therapy that never really helped anyone because words could not stop the questions that flared up inside people’s heads. Why them and not me? The rules of this game that the Mad Titan had played were only known to him, but he was gone, and they would remain unanswered forever. Why had he done it? No one really wanted to know, and deep down many of them were glad the Avengers were gone, dissolved; no one was about to question their decision, not after it was discovered they were the cause for all this pain.
It was a calm world, everyone was too busy grieving to notice them return, and when the world was submerged in the white halo of light a feeling of relief crossed some of their minds; this is it, finally the pain will stop and everything will end, but when it dissipated the sky was clear, the sun shining, and out of the blue everything felt different, correct, in peace once again. The birds were singing once more, happily chirping, the sounds of bees returning home after a hard days work and that of the breeze moving the sand in small twirls around the floor in between the sprouting flowers.
Your fingers twitched ever so slightly as you slowly woke up from what seemed like the shortest or the longest sleep in your life, your body light as feathers at first, but soon it started gaining weight until it felt like your normal form, voices and movement reaching your ears as you blinked a few times to get your eyes to adjust to the light. Your face was close to the ground, dirt all over your cheek. Although the aches of battle were returning to your overworn bones and muscles your arms pushed you into a sitting position, all signs of the fight in Wakanda’s land gone except for the hundreds of soldiers standing up, looking around wondering what was going on, why the Avengers were nowhere to be found, why the creatures they had been fighting a few seconds ago where gone, but like a blast of wind it all came back, the dust, the feeling of disintegration. You had watched as Peggy vanished into thin air in front of your eyes, her shield was the only thing that marked the spot, but now it was gone, someone had taken it. You both had been in the middle of nowhere, far away from the actual battle, distracting quite a few of the monsters when it had happened, but you had a clear view of the green plain where the lost soldiers were standing on, but Peggy wasn’t here.
Pushing yourself to stand up you wondered what the hell had happened, because the last time you’d checked, the snap couldn’t be undone. Your cheek was still bleeding, the warm liquid running down your neck and staining the collar of your white vest, your short-sleeved cream mono dirty and in some areas broken. The crunching of the branches underneath your boots made you realize all this was real, that you were back once more. Automatically your mind went to Wanda; she had been with Vision, trying to protect the mind stone, but you had no idea if she had been lost to the snap as you and Peggy had or if she was far away from here, living a new unknown life without you in it. Ruffling behind you made you take your pistol out, turning quickly and aiming for whoever or whatever was making that noise, but it was a mass of grey dust over the ground. It created a figure and in less than a second Peggy was coming back before your own eyes, her hair dishevelled, her face covered in dirt and dried blood. Her eyes seemed unfocused for a second, but as if it came to her second nature, she found herself jumping into a standing position, motioning to grab her shield. Since it was gone, she quickly turned and searched until her eyes settled on you and your confused look seemed to answer what was creeping up in her head. What the hell had happened?
-Where is it? It fell from my arm when I…
-I don’t know, it was right there when it happened to me. I can’t see Steve or Thor, they are gone.
-If we’ve come back then I’m sure they have to be around.
-Look at this place Peggs, it looks… new. Undisturbed. What if we have been take to another time?
-Let’s not lose ourselves. We have to find my shield, and if anyone has it that must be Steve. Come on.
-Everyone looks lost, no one knows what’s going on, we need to find someone that hasn’t been through the snap and figure out what’s going on. Your shield can wait Peggs. I’m sure Tony has a spare one.
-With my gun and shield gone, I will need you to be my back up just in case.
-Sure, but I don’t think we need to worry about anyone attacking us. The things are gone and so are the spaceships. No one’s here no more.
-What if only some of us have come back? What if Steve is gone or Tony? We are in Wakanda, but when?
-Let’s go to the palace, T’Challa must know what’s going on or even Shuri will do at this point. Eyes everywhere, I don’t know how many of those creatures are still out here.
Putting your gun away the both of you started walking up to the plain, more and more people showing up from the woods, loud voices rising in the air as the villagers run down to see what all the commotion was about. The air was colder than when you had left, and there were abandoned houses along the sides of the city that could be seen from a distance. You had hardly reached the border of the forest when a orange portal appeared out of the blue near where you and Peggy where. Strange came out, gave a first glance around before he spotted you and walked over to where you were.
-Care to give us a briefing Strange?
-We have been brought back, which I assume is due to the fact that our side has taken hold of the stones and undone what had been. They are in the new Avengers headquarters, and that’s where Thanos is, once more. At the moment that’s all I can say Miss Carter, is that enough?
-I suppose it’ll have to do. How long has it been?
-Five years.
-What? – you couldn’t even begin to imagine the pain and despair the world had been under for such a long time, but the worst was thinking about Wanda. If she hadn’t been through the snap, she would have had to live alone, without you or any other person she really cared about in a cold unfeeling room visiting her brother’s grave day after day without anyone for her, to hold her or help her. For once you wished she had disappeared just like you.
-It’s a long story, and I’m afraid that the Avengers are not in the best position to wait Y/N. Black Panther and some of the others should be here, I’ll gather them in the field and then we can get going.
-Has everyone returned? And I mean everyone.
-I can’t answer that.
-Why are you always so… like this. It’s a simple question but you make it sound like I’m asking for the most sacred information in the universe.
-Don’t be rude Y/N, he has seen things that we can’t even begin to understand. Let’s just look for the rest and get this over with.
-Strange! What the hell is going on. – from the sky landed Falcon, Bucky running from between the trees to catch up with him, his gun hanging loosely from his shoulder.
-Sam! Bucky! Thank God you are here. Was there anyone else over there?
-Barnes, is Steve with you?
-He wasn’t Captain Carter. We saw T’Challa but no one else. He ran back to the palace calling out his sister’s name.
-Thank you, Barnes.
-And Wanda? She had been with Vision, but I don’t know…
-Too many questions, and we don’t have the time. Gather the soldiers and I’ll go and search for the rest. We must act now before is too late.
Stepping back into the portal he left you there, wondering and asking yourself if maybe… Better not to think about it. Peggy and Bucky were already calling out to the soldiers, leaving you standing there like an idiot as Sam flew over to the palace. You were young, but the aches of battle, and the pains of maybe having lost the most important person in your life made you feel like you were a hundred years old, maybe even older than Peggy. She was used to this, she was a soldier, she had fought in WWII, saved millions of lives, and you were just a spy that the MI6 had deemed unfit due to a failed mission. Old fools that didn’t believe a young woman could handle big things while being supervised by thirty different people, no wonder you had fucked it up. Watching her was a pleasure that you would never express, she was so put together, so mature and confident, ordering people about, pointing in different directions as if being completely unarmed didn’t even matter to her a bit. Barnes was more of a follow the leader kind of guy, and helped manoeuvre people around according to Peggy’s orders, making a comment or two every once in a while, but keeping a distance. He didn’t want her to pull rank on him, like she usually did whenever he started losing himself. You hadn’t noticed, but you had been staring and after a few minutes you heard in the distance your name being called.
-What?
-Well, we are back on planet Earth. I called you three times and you were just staring into the distance.
-Sorry, it’s been a long day. What do you need?
-You are good climber, get up there and tell me what you see.
-Sure. What exactly am I supposed to be looking out for? – running all the way back to the trees you quickly started climbing, jumping from one branch to the next one carefully but fast to get to the top, leaves hitting you in the face, thin small branches scratching you ever so slightly.
-Do you see Falcon or anyone else? I need to know who has returned so I can manage and set a plan, if there’s more people coming.
-I see T’Challa followed by an army leaving the palace. I can’t say if there’s more people coming from there, my eyesight it’s not extremely gifted in long distances.
-How far away?
-I’d say five minutes if they run to meet us. Wow, I hadn’t noticed what a huge army Wakanda has.
-You can come down now.
The truth was that you didn’t want to see who else was coming from within the building, afraid that in these five years something else had happened to the survivors and you would never see them again, or more likely see her again. She was powerful, but also broken, and you were the only one who was important enough to her to let you be around. You would never try to fix her, she needed to do that on her own, but you promised her before the entire Thanos situation happened that you would be there for her, all the time, forever, and if one day she asked you to mend her broken heart you already had a box filled with tape and glue to bring her smile back once more. The possibility that in these years she might have suffered an accident or that she might have tried to hurt herself was unbearable to think about. In deep thought you missed the next branch, sliding off the tree and falling rapidly from a height of over thirty meters, breaking and hitting thick branches as you fell. In less than a minute you were expecting to hit the floor in the most painful way, but the strength of a pair of slim arms around your figure shook the thought of your head and once more you were able to open your eyes. Smiling down at you were those green eyes that you had been dreaming about, but in the blink of an eye they changed to blue, and the figure changed from the redhead to Peggy’s rich brunette.
-You really should be more careful. – landing with a thump on the floor she let you sit, standing and pushing her hair back from her face. – I know you are tired, but I have not been training you for this. Come on Y/N, we still have work to do, and I was hoping to send your ex-boss a full report on your actions, don’t let me or yourself down.
-I just slipped, it’s no big deal. I was thinking and I missed a branch, it’s not like I shot the wrong person, like you did.
-Steve moved, how I was I supposed to know he was going to cover my target? It was a one moment thing, and it has never happened again.
-Exactly, it’s not like I go around falling like a brick every five seconds.
-Arguing ladies? – the sound of thousands of footsteps were reaching both your ears as the army got nearer, Strange coming from in between the trees with a satisfied grin on his slim features.
-Of course not. Y/N and I were just chatting. Is everyone ready? I don’t like wasting time.
-You only need to join the King and his army and wait until I open the portal, I trust you can wait a few minutes, Miss Carter?
-Captain Carter if you don’t mind Doctor Strange. You go on and do what you need to do, we can wait here just fine.
Nodding his head, he created one of his portal and vanished into what looked like a very dark hallway, leading God knows where. By the time you decided on standing up she had already gone back to work, and was talking with T’Challa, pointing and gesturing. Pushing yourself up you joined the group, not saying much, barely moving from the spot you had assigned to yourself since most of the people you were around were pure strangers and you didn’t feel like making a fool out of yourself by trying to chat. Soldiers are always soldiers, and before battle they don’t take kindly to stupidity or jokes, it doesn’t ease the tension and the uncertainty of whether you are going to make it out alive or if this is going to be your last day on this Earth. To avoid these kind of thoughts and the anxiety that was sure going to hit you, you took the pistol and checked how many more bullets you had left and if it was in good condition, just a few scratches that would be covered later with a good polish.
-Y/N! Get your ass over here girl! – Sam’s voice reached your ears, and in just matter of seconds you were running to the front of the line with the other members of the Avengers that had been left behind in Wakanda. – Great to see you. I hope you rested, because I don’t think we’ll be able to in the next few hours. Can’t wait to finish and have a cold beer and a sandwich. I’m starving.
-Do you talk this much when you are nervous?
-Yeah.
-Cool, I hope I’ll get to have a sandwich as well, and a brownie with ice cream, I really am craving one of those.
-I know of a place near where I live that has the best homemade brownies in the state. Maybe you and Wanda can come with Bucky and me.
-If we find Wanda.
-Hey, I’m sure she’s fine. I saw her leaving with Vision followed by Steve and Nat, maybe she left with them after this shitshow happened. Chill, Y/N, come on, it’s our turn to kick them in the butt and end this.
-You are probably right. I’m just tired and all this is just so confusing, and I feel so out of place, you’ve been doing this kind of thing for the longest time, but I just got here and everything’s so weird. This is the kind of thing that you see in movies, not in real life.
-It really is weird as hell, but how boring everything would be if we just got up every day to go to work and did nothing exciting. It’s not ideal, but this is our thing, and if Carter decided to train you is because she saw something in you that makes you special. Everyone here has something that makes them who they are, show yourself girl.
The conversation ended abruptly as a sparkly sound reached everyone’s ears, a portal forming slowly in a circular motion, becoming bigger and bigger, dust and fire reaching for you from the other side. You adjusted your vest, tightening your belt as the sight of the destroyed headquarters came into view, the blocks of cement and fallen walls covering a huge hole on the floor from what you suspected had been a blast from Thanos ship. Peggy’s demeanour changed completely as she saw the back of Steve’s form, the tension of the battle dissipating from her body. The chanting that came from T’challa and his people seemed to steer something inside of you, your hand gripping tightly on the gun, ready to see the end of this. Before you knew what was going on you had started walking, following others into the other side of the portal, seeing that around you more portals were appearing, even more people popping out into this new battlefield.
-It’s impossible that are so many people willing to fight. If I could I would go home and have some pizza.
-You wouldn’t be able to sit still for more than five seconds Y/N. Carter told us about your midnight training sessions, and how you are always asking to do things.
-I can always try.
-Fear is fine. I got to go and give Steve a surprise, I’ll see you in a bit. On your left!
He took flight and crossed before you did. In the middle of the crowd, it was impossible to see where he had landed, or who else was there. You had to shake your head and think that maybe you were hallucinating at this point, but you just couldn’t get those red glows and auras mistaken for someone else’s. She was right there, on the front, but you couldn’t see her, and the need was greater than anything else. Right on time everyone started running, but you weren’t looking for a fight, trying to get to the red glows that you had missed so much in this short period of time, but it was proving more and more difficult as monsters came out of the blue, stopping you in your tracks.
A huge blow on your ribs sent you flying backwards, hitting a rock. It knocked the breath out of you, a sharp pain on your torso as you stood up once more. Looking up you saw that the Mad Titan had thrown Peggy though the air and she had landed on you, a wicked grin on his face. Pulling out your gun you pointed it at him, shooting bullets directly into his face, but none of them seemed to leave not even a scratch, and as you got nearer and you were just a few feet away you pulled the trigger once more, but this time no bullet came out. Working fast you tried to recharge it, but a blow from his fist sent you backwards, your gun snapping in half. Blood was coming out of your nose, and your head felt a bit dizzy, but still you stood up and pulled out Nat’s taser that she had given you before, well, for you it felt just a couple of hours ago. It was a lost battle, but someone had to stop him, hold him until someone explained to you what exactly you were supposed to do with him; keep him away from the stones once more? Kill him? It didn’t matter, you ran back to him, but stopped midway when you heard your name being called.
Looking up the most magnificent creature that you had only seen in movies and books came into view, a precious white Pegasus flying over you, Valkyrie riding it in the most graceful way. It felt like it was playing in slow motion, its wings flapping fiercely, slicing through the air as if it was the only rightful creature that could soar it, the pearly hair that covered its body glazing in the lights of fire and war. It was its element. The look of determination on Valkyrie’s face was a scary one, her features torn between exhaustion and anger, hurt displayed in her eyes. You had only seen that look in Wanda’s eyes when she’d told you about her brother, how much she missed him, and how it felt like part of her had died with him. The Pegasus landed gracefully right next to you and in a quick motion Valkyrie threw a sword at you, a magnificent piece of art and work, its blade sharp and clean, ready to be used.
-It’s my spare one, don’t break o lose it, it was a gift from a very loved friend. It should be able to slice through his skin, Queen Frigga spelled it when… well, it doesn’t matter. Use it well.
Before you could utter an answer, she had already taken flight once more, her own sword in her hand. The sound of something metallic reverberating made you turn around, Peggy and Steve trying to pull him away from Hawkeye, who was running with the gauntlet and the stones. Steve was thrown back with one blow, Peggy covering herself with her shield as Thanos smashed his own weapon against it, the vibranium cracking noisily. Taking hold of the sword you ran towards him, jumped over some wall fragments and used the blade of his own weapon to put yourself on his shoulder, your weapon pressed tightly against his neck. All motions stopped from him, giving Peggy enough time to step away from underneath him and run to Steve.
-I would say give me one reason not to, but you wiped half of the universe off, so that’s enough reason.
-I haven’t done anything yet, but another version of me has done it before, so I shall do it again.
He grabbed one of your feet and pulled you off his shoulders, taking you by surprise which made you drop the sword. His other hand went straight for your head, putting pressure on it slowly, that mad grin on his face once more. The pain assaulted you out of the blue, the pressure building up in such a way that you were sure your eyes were going to pop out of their sockets before he crushed your skull in between his fingers. The tightness on your throat made it difficult to keep on screaming, your vision blurry, but you could hear voices yelling for others to help you, dark forms moving around Thanos’ form and then a blinding red light. His hands let go of you, the floor hard underneath your back as you landed with a groan. The pressure subsided completely, the throbbing on your head still going strong, but you remained on the floor with your eyes closed, trying to coach yourself into standing once more, forcing yourself to control the pain in your head as it slowly seemed to pass. The sound of boots walking over the debris forced you to open your eyes, the figure standing just a few feet away, her arms extended, red orbs of power forming in her hands, her eyes completely red.
-You almost took everything from me.
-I don’t even know who you are.
-You will.
Silence seemed to have fallen upon all of you, everyone watching the scene in awe and terror as Wanda levitated off the floor, tendrils of red magic wrapping around her body, waves coming off her as if all her power was trying to escape, but she was in control, a red crown forming on her head as magic exploded and turned her into what she was supposed to be, her clothes changing into a new outfit; the Scarlet Witch, at last. Objects floated around her, the red magic supporting them in the air before she started throwing them at him, smashing rock after rock after rock on his head, a small scratch appearing on his cheek. He was about to run to her with his weapon when an enormous ball of red light hit him right on his hand, breaking the blade, sending it flying among the debris far from his reach, broken. Moving her hand, she motioned for his form to be lifted off the floor as easily as if she were just making a cup of coffee, and like serpents around their pray her magic wrapped around him, squeezing enough to make him yelp. He murmured something that didn’t quite reached your ears, but if the look on his “children” meant anything it wasn’t good news. The weapons in his ship came unhooked and pointed towards Wanda, the lasers charging, but a bright light on the sky interrupted them, it looked like a shooting star heading straight for the ship. Thanos’ couldn’t look but grew more and more agitated as the seconds went by and no blows came, the rage inside of Wanda wrapping around him like fire. The shooting star smashed through the bulk, destroying their weapons and after a few seconds the entire thing, which burst into flames in the air, flying uncontrolled towards the lake. For once there was terror written all over his eyes, and it felt good; pulling yourself up you took the sword that had fallen from your hand and turned around, meeting Peggy’s eyes. Something in them was telling you that she trusted you, that it was time. She threw her shield in your direction, smiling when you picked it up and tightened it to your arm before your turned and faced the Mad Titan once more. Out of the blue one of Thanos’ “children” came running from in between the crowd of people and threw the gauntlet at him, the power of the stones rushing through the Titan’s body. If he took the power stone or the reality stone, he could throw Wanda off her game or worse, make you go through another goddam snap, and you weren’t about to miss another five years of your life and the possibility of finally getting a happy life with the person you loved the most in this planet.
The shooting star came down from the sky, stopping just in front of him, smiling. Captain Marvel took hold of the gauntlet and tried to pull it from his hand, but he was breaking free from Wanda’s magic and was moving his other arm towards her to either try and push her away or to use a stone against her. You weren’t planning on finding out. Running towards some rocks to use as leverage, you jumped high in the air, the sword high, slicing the air and landing on his arm. It didn’t fall completely, but it had a deep cut that made him cry out in pain. This gave Carol enough time to pull it off of him, flying away as fast as she could away from him. Once more Wanda took over, and started pulling Thanos’ armour off of him, leaving him vulnerable to anything. Sensing that she wanted you to have the final go at him you ran once more and jumped high, but this time you used the shield as an anchor and smashed into his shoulder before you stabbed him in the chest, blood pooling around the wound as he gave a gurgled scream.
-Don’t beg for mercy or ask me to take pity on you, you are nothing more than a murderer and this is what you deserve. You wanted things that can be achieved in many more different ways, you don’t have to kill half of the universe to make a hopeless dream come true. You’ve already killed enough. Rest in torment with the consequences of your actions.
Pulling the sword from his wound blood poured out like a fountain, the mad life he possessed leaving his eyes until they laid glazed, his chest still and his limbs maintaining the shape because of Wanda’s magic. You jumped back to the floor and wiped the blood off of Peggy’s shield as Wanda threw a burst of magic towards him, burning his corpse down to a crisp until there was nothing left, not even the ashes. His followers and monsters retreated, trying to escape, but Carol didn’t listen to Tony when he asked her to give it to him, both oblivious to Strange’s smile of relief as she took the stones from the gauntlet and used her own self to channel the power, snapping the enemy out for all eternity. The white light that washed over the face of the earth brought quietness and peace at last, your tired body sitting down on the floor, letting go of the shield and the sword as it washed over your aching body. Everyone remained still for a few minutes, but soon people started crying and laughing, hugging and running towards their friends and loved ones. You could have sworn you had seen Thor hugging something that looked like some sort of tree for a minute. You remained afar, watching when Banner turned back into a human and ran to Natasha, kissing her, and how Tony and Pepper were just content to be around each other, chatting lightly still in full armour. From the corner of your eye Carol and Valkyrie were kind of having a moment, and Wanda was still high in the air, keeping watch over the terrain, far from you.
-You did well Y/N. You can let your guard down, you are safe now, I promise.
-Temporarily. We both know this is just one of the many more battles that are to come Peggy, but yes, right now we are all safe. Thanks for the shield; could you give this back to Valkyrie? I want to just sit here.
-How did it feel? – Wanda had come down by then and was close to Pepper and Tony, talking with them in hushed tones, it felt like she was pushing you away a bit, but even if she did you would still be happy to know that she’s fine, alive and someday, maybe even happy. Peggy sat down on the floor next to you, her right arm around your shoulders as she took her shield and placed it on your lap.
-Light.
-Just that? Light?
-I felt important, like it was the right thing. It gave me strength and confidence, like I could do anything in the world.
-Good, at least I know it’ll be in nice hands.
-Peggy?
-Steve and I have been thinking for a while that maybe it’s about time we had a life of our own. A life that didn’t involve a shield and the title of captain. You’ll do just fine, trust me.
-But I’m not ready, you never told me that…
-Y/N, relax. You don’t need to be trained to be what you were born to be. This shield has accompanied me for many years, and as much as I love it and I love being Captain Britain it’s about time I retired, leave the path free for younger generations to make new rules and fight new enemies. It’s your turn…Captain.
She left you sitting on the floor, staring at the most cherished object she had ever had. Your fingers traced the cracks slowly as the idea of becoming the next in line became clearer in your head, sinking in. The feeling of someone staring at you from behind broke the spell, and you turned to see Wanda fidgeting with her fingers, looking in between you and the floor every few minutes. After what seemed like hours she opened her mouth, but no words came out and she closed it again, tears pooling in her eyes. Quickly you left the shield on the floor and stood up, rushing to take her hands in yours.
-Did… did you… did you disappear? – the words came out strained and with a very thick sokovian accent, making them hard to recognise if you didn’t know her too well.
-You did, didn’t you? – the small nod felt like a wave of relief had washed over your entire body. Your arms wrapped around her form, pulling her close to you, breathing in her vanilla perfume, resting her head on your chest. - Thank God. I did, but I was terrified, not for me, but for you, I didn’t know where you were if you had been gone… I was praying that you had because I couldn’t bare the thought of you all alone punishing yourself over and over again.
-But… it is my fault. I killed Vision and then he… We should have had more time; we should have saved him. I should have saved him.
-You have nothing to do with that, cherry. If he hadn’t had the stone, he would be alive, don’t do this to yourself, you didn’t do anything wrong. You were supposed to do this and I’m sure that Vision knew as much as I do. He was a good friend, and you had grown to love him, but you didn’t do anything wrong. You are strong Wanda, much more than I ever will.
-You killed Thanos.
-Yes, but because you let me. You gave me the choice to do it or to let you do it, and in the end, it was you who wiped him completely off the Earth. I just stopped his heart, no big deal.
-I saw him throwing you and when you landed, I felt so angry. I didn’t want him to even be anywhere near you. The anger that it brought was just… so much I couldn’t leave it all bottled up. If something had happened to you. I can’t be without you, I love you.
-You and me, always, forever, no matter what. That’s what you told me before you left with Steve and Nat, and I never stopped believing it. We’ll always be together, I will always stay by your side, not even death can stop me from growing old with you.
-I was so afraid of committing because I don’t know how to handle being around people, but you are just so patient. I have never been given my own space, no one has ever listened to my ideas or my needs, but you are always ready to do anything for me. Now I know I can do whatever I set my mind to because I will always have someone to support me even if I fail.
-I would do anything for my girl. – your forehead rested against hers, her cheeks pressed against your hands. This wasn’t a dream, she was here, her warm skin touching yours, the sensation of her magic wrapping around your fingers ever so slightly sending shivers down your spine. It had barely been a few minutes what you had spent not existing, in your head, and even that amount of time was too much, you just couldn’t be away from her, not after this. The idea of retiring like Peggy and Steve were planning on sounded very appealing, but you knew it couldn’t happen, not yet. You both were the younger generation, the new heroes, and the world would always be in need of people like you both. -I have an idea. We have a house to furnish near Westview, don’t we? How about we build a life there?
-But Tony wouldn’t let us go just like that, we are part of his team, we are…
-Cherry, if they need us, they can call us. We’ve given too much already to them, let’s not waste the rest on waiting for trouble to come up.
-I like it, I really do. Maybe we can adopt a cat or a dog while we are at it?
-We’ll see about that. The idea of a can of paint falling on a cat doesn’t sound very cute. Maybe once we are settled. I have to give Nat her taser back, then we can leave.
-Y/N, or should I call you Captain Britain?
-Both are fine. What is it Strange, I’m very tired and would like to go home. – picking up the shield once more you strapped it to your back; it felt really light, and it didn’t bother you at all. The smile on Wanda’s face shone like rays of sunshine, the clouds dissipating and making the sun glow on her red hair, her brand new crown gleaming in power as you took on how different she looked now that she had an outfit of her own, not lend me down clothes that did nothing for her magic. This was made from it, it suited her.
-It appears that Wanda has reached a new a level of magic and given the fact that I know this is no ordinary power I have thought that maybe you would like some help. I know of a woman who might be willing to teach you.
-I don’t need to be taught. It’s my own magic, I can control it.
-It’s not a matter whether you can or not, it’s just that there’s a lot of rules that you need to learn. There’s a lot that you need to be taught about magic that can’t be learnt through practice, and this woman can help you.
-Will that mean that we’ll have to stay here? We wanted to go live somewhere else, away from all this.
-She’s a witch, I believe she’ll be more than comfortable with teleporting from her home to where you want to go. Here’s her address, you’ll figure out a way of contacting her, don’t worry. I’ll see you around, Captain Britain and… Scarlet Witch.
Waking Up In Vegas
spencer reid x reader
request: prompts 87 (boop), 88 (that's such a bad idea- lets do it), 89 (Cool Cool Cool Cool Cool Cool Cool Cool Cool), 96 (I'm not crying, you are.) by anon
word count: 1.7k
warnings: Mentions of drug addiction, heavy drinking and blackout, that's it.
author's note: I've had this in my inbox for months, and I'm so sorry I didn't finish it sooner. Also, what do you want to see from my blog, it seems like I only post once a week for my fics and that's a no go from me.
~~~
The light was too loud- that's a wonderful thing to think when you remember nothing of the night before. You groaned and sat up, seeing that you were in a large bed with white covers. You scratched your head and looked around, noticing that the bedboard behind you was a large pink heart.
Looking down you realize that you're wearing a sequined red bikini top and a skirt scarf combo with booty shorts underneath. Drunk you does not have good fashion sense.
Before you can notice anything else, you start to feel puke crawling up your throat and you immediately run and vomit all your guts up.
You rinse your mouth out and notice that the blanket mound you left has shifted, and you become wary and pick up a heavy brass candlestick.
And then the lump rolls over, and it's your goddamn coworker.
"Reid?"
He startles and wakes up, staring at you and then glancing down at himself- huh, there was something wrong about that picture, but you couldn't figure out what it was just yet.
"y/n? What are you doing in my hotel room?" He pauses, looks around, then mutters under his breath "this isn't my hotel room."
He looks up at you "Since when are you married?"
"I'm not," You look down at your hand, noticing a giant red ruby adorning your ring finger "I am."
You look down at his hand and notice that he is too, "And so are you."
You and Spencer look around your room, both badly masking paranoia and panic. Both of your eyes stop when you notice a picture frame in the corner- a wedding certificate.
"Cool Cool Cool Cool Cool Cool Cool Cool Cool. This is fine, no big deal, just a marriage certificate," You move over and pick it up "with both of our names on it."
"Okay, this is okay, this is fine," Spencer says, sitting back down on the bed stunned.
"So, we're married, which is a thing that happened, last night, that you definitely remember." You say, sitting down next to your newly revealed husband.
"I don't remember."
"How do you not remember? You have super memory powers!"
"This is an excellent first fight to have as a married couple, of course, you blame me." He says, standing up and shrugging.
You meet his stance "Of course I blame you! You're the smart one!"
"Oh, well Agent, I wasn't aware that you had an IQ of 25!" He pauses "25 is the number associated by Henry H. Goodard to be an idiot, it's actually-"
"I know!" You exclaim, seething with half-hearted rage.
"You know, your the one who got an addict drunk!"
"Your vice isn't alcohol! If I drugged you I'd be a monster! You ordered that first bloody mary all by yourself, and those shots we did were totally consensual!!!"
He looked up at you "you remember that?"
You think, and notice memories that you didn't know were there, "um, yeah, bits and pieces."
From the expression he makes, he looks to be remembered more too. You and your new husband sit down and let it all hit you.
~~~
"4 tequila shots please." You wave down the bartender.
You're already buzzed, but you and Spencer were just getting warmed up. Morgan and Garcia left hours ago to go to a fancy restaurant, Rossi was planted firmly at the poker table, Hotch was nowhere to be seen, JJ had gone home to be with Henry, and Emily was at a "sin to win" night at some casino that you already knew too much about just by hearing the name.
So that leaves you and Spencer at the bar in the only casino in town he wasn't banned from.
At first, you were concerned about him drinking, but once he reassured that alcohol isn't his way of self-medicating, you were okay. Besides, if you saw any red flags, you would throw his ass in rehab faster than you can say 'gin'.
So, you were 5 drinks in and having the time of your lives, showing off battle scars and laughing. God, his eyes were pretty.
"Your eyes are so pretty!" You giggled "like soooooo pretty, woooooooow."
He laughed and looked back at you "your skin is pretty, like in a non-serial killer way, it's really pretty."
"Thank you, just don't kill me for it."
"I just called no murder!" He whined "besides, how am I sure you won't kill me and scoop my eyes out?"
"Because that's gross." You said, rolling your eyes.
"And stealing your skin isn't?"
"You can' have my skin!" You say, mock running away.
He laughs, and looks directly into your eyes, and smiles, wow, he was pretty. Morgan was right.
"Hey, do you wanna get out of here?" Spencer asks you.
"Yeah, let's get ice cream!" You grab his hand, and it feels natural through your foggy brain.
After stumbling through the ice cream parlor, full of people who were trying to pretend like they weren't. Spencer got butter pecan, and you got sherbert and chocolate.
You stumbled out of the store, giggling to yourself and Spencer.
God, you loved him. So you told him.
"I love you." He stopped in his tracks, and you almost tripped on a bicycle rack.
"Really?" He whispers.
All of the giggles are gone.
"I love you."
The ice cream is long forgotten, his on the ground, and half of yours on your clothes and half next to his on the ground. All that's left is your faces inching closer to each other.
When your lips meet it feels like firecrackers going off inside your head.
His mouth is soft, gently contrasting with your soft lips. His tongue sneaks into your mouth, your smile around his.
"Let's get married." He pulls apart from you, out of breath.
You stay silent for a moment, before looking up and directly into his chocolate brown eyes "That is such a bad idea-"
He diverts his eyes and scratches the back of his skull "Um, yeah, that's okay, let's-"
"Let's do it."
He looks back at you, and you grab his body and kiss him.
~~~
Sometimes people can be happy, you realize as an elderly woman ties a sash around your waist.
You have to be honest, you never thought this was gonna be how you were gonna get married. Hell, you weren't sure if you were gonna get married at all. But certainly not like this. Certainly not at 1 am to your coworker 7 drinks in at a cheap roadside attraction.
Definitely not like this.
But something about this weirdness felt like the only way anything ever would've made any sense.
There was something about the outfit you were wearing that was perfect, a bright red bra covered in sequins underneath a top with buttons and poofy sleeves that showed off a lot of your chest, a wrap-around cheap white silk skirt with jeans shorts underneath. And of course purple open-toed boots. Perfect.
Marrying Spencer Reid is like a fever dream. A perfect man with perfect hair and perfect eyes. So of course you were giggling like crazy while they put the cheap crown with pink tulle serving as a veil on your head.
Your witnesses were an elderly couple, of course, you wanted to have your best friends there, but knowing them they'd try to talk you out, and believe me, there was no way you wanted out of it.
"Now's time dear," the woman exclaims, gently patting you on the shoulder and leading you out of the fitting room and towards the chapel.
The owner of the business hooks his arm around yours and leads you into the chapel, church bells from an iPod attached to a speaker ringing out into the air.
Spencer turns around the air visibly leaves his lungs when you make eye contact. The chapel you two had chosen in this drunken haze was costume-themed, and he was wearing an ancient Rome costume that fit the time where his favorite philosopher, so even though no one else noticed, you could tell he was dressed as Gaius.
His hair had been attempted to slick back, but little curls were popping up all over the place instead. He was wringing his hands tightly and bouncing his knee, god you couldn't wait to marry him.
The elderly man who had led you to the alter places you next to Spencer, you couldn't focus on anything but your soon-to-be-husband.
Spencer takes his hands and gently pulls your veil up from around your face, and a tear trickles out of his eyes as he sees you. You smile and notice his nerves, try to calm the love of your life down "boop", you gently tap his nose and he smiles in comfort.
The officiant drones on and on about love but you can't hear him, all you can focus on is his love-filled eyes.
"Do you take Spencer Reid to be your husband?"
Your eyes snap out of their daze and you say with the most certainty than you have ever said anything: "I do."
"And do you take (y/n) (y/l/n) to be your life partner for as long as you may live?"
"I do," And you feel more wanted than you ever have in your life, he wants you, Spencer wants you.
~~~
You and Spencer sit on your bed in stunned silence, neither believing that last night had really happened. You look over at your apparent husband and notice tears streaming down his face.
"You're crying." You say, your voice coming out as a chocked whisper.
"I'm not crying, you are." You look down and notice that your shirt is soaked in tears.
"Oh." You take a deep breath and look into his eyes. "So, what do you want to do?"
"Get an annulment?" He doesn't look completely happy about his answer and stares into your eyes for reassurance.
You take a deep breath and stare off into the distance, out into a world that would be so much better if you were married to Spencer Reid. "I don't want that."
You look back at him to meet his eyes, "Me neither."
"I love you, a lot, and I want to be married to you." Spencer smiles, and you feel wanted and safe and loved.
Instead of saying it back, he kissed you with a passion that was way more descriptive than simple words. Spencer is your husband and you love him, he loves you, and you are finally wanted.
Fake Smile
Carol Danvers x Reader
Request: for @marvels-writings
Word Count: 2.5k
Warnings: Hatred, grief, suicide, etc
Author's Note: This is for @marvelxreaderfanfictionfest's contest last year, it's already on ao3 here. They have a great contest opening on may tenth for the mcu ladies, so go check that out! There isn't enough wlw fanfiction in this fandom (or really any).
~
You could swear her skin was glowing. Or at the very least reflecting the colors around her. Soft golden light shone around onto her face from the cracked window next to her chair, and she basked in the light as if she had just won every award the world had to offer. She didn't have the right to be this fucking pretty.
Her golden hair floated around her head, almost literally, forming a halo that made her look even more like an angel. Her skin was only several shades lighter, and her cheeks scrunched up in a way when she laughed that you could only describe as euphoric. Her piercing blue eyes only complimented her features, and your eyes were instantly drawn to her impossible beautiful cheekbones.
If only the woman below that was as beautiful as the face it belonged to.
Carol was the enemy. Not literally, of course. But she was the enemy. Utterly unsympathetic when you had told her about the death of your best friend in the dusting, you had grown to despise her within mere minutes of a word coming out of her mouth.
She laughed like she didn't notice you glaring. And when she finally locked eyes with you, her lips formed a smirk and kept on giggling.
In the brief days that she had returned to earth, she made it her mission to do everything for the sole purpose of lighting rage inside your chest. No one had the right to make you feel this way, least of all her.
She had returned to earth to "check-in." In the past 3 years since the snap, the world had taken a turn for the worst. Not only was every other person gone, but the death toll was slowly rising. Crime rates were increasing, and the suicide toll was only getting higher.
Every single damn day of your life you had dedicated yourself to helping the people on earth, and the only thing she had on her mind was the big picture. Trying to bring people back that couldn't be brought back. Bullshit.
All you were trying to do was make sure that the people who had left stayed alive.
"Ava? Would you like a scone." She said it in a normal voice, but you could feel the passion behind the words.
"No thank you. I'm careful about what I let others feed me. Because I'm careful. Unlike some other people I know." You say in the most passive and sickly sweet voice you could muster.
"I'm very cautious about keeping myself, and others, safe. I'm just nice enough to do it politely." She responded in the same voice as before.
"Carol, Ava. Do I need to remind you that this is a professional meeting, where we are to talk about important topics only." Nat said in a stone-cold tone. Natasha was never the most playful person, to begin with, but in the past 3 years, things had taken a turn for the worse.
When someone is already flying by the seat of their pants and is about as stable as a bull in a china shop, you tend not to provoke them. And by provoke, I mean of course murdering half of humanity.
"I was being professionally, just Carol here was-"
Natasha sharply cuts you off. " Ava. "
"Fine." You say, internally rolling your eyes.
Carol looks you dead in the eyes and gives you a smirk. Damn this woman.
You had been through hell. You had talking people of bridges, you had stood up for abuse victims in court, you had watched the people you had loved die. You were a stone-cold bitch. But with Carol, you might as well be a 2-year-old with a pair of scissors and a disturbing lack of adult supervision.
Once the meeting was over, you sparked a conversation with Natasha. "Hey Nat, do you wanna get some lunch?"
She looked at you, and then down at her phone, and then at you again. "Um, I can't. Not today." She looks behind her shoulder, and a sinister smirk creeps onto her features. "But I'm sure Carol would love to go out with you."
"Natasha, no. I said no."
Her menacing grin only intensifies. "Oh come on Ava, you could cut the sexual tension between the two of you with a knife."
"It's not sexual tension. It's just tension. Because we hate each other."
"Mm, I don't think so." She turns over her shoulder and calls to the blonde. "Carol, could you come here for a sec?"
Carol's head perks up, and she walks towards Nat, a scowl forming on her face when she sees that you're next to her. "What is it?"
"Do you want to go to lunch. Will Ava and I?" She questions politely.
"That sounds great, but doesn't Ava have to do that... Thing?"
You turn on your sickly sweet smile for what seems like the ten-thousandth time. "No, I canceled it. Just. To. Have. Lunch. With. You."
Natasha is almost guffawing at this interaction between the two of you. "Alright then, lunch it is!" She starts walking right without any hesitation, and both you and Carol have to run to catch up to her.
"I saw this cute little Italian place. Do you want to go-"
"Chili's." Natasha stops her pace and looks back at you.
"What. It's an incredible experience that I'm sure we'll all enjoy."
It's now Natasha's turn to wear the fake smile. "Great."
You reach Natasha's car, and she quickly whips out her car keys.
"Oh, we're riding together?" Carol exclaims with disgust.
"Yeah, saves energy," Natasha exclaims as she checks her phone.
"I call shotgun!" You counter, trying to do anything to get away from Carol.
"No shotgun. I think it would be nice for the two of you to bond. I wish it was in a bedroom, but a car will do." Natasha says, still looking down at her phone.
"What was that?" You asked, hoping that you didn't hear what you thought you heard.
"No shotgun, window's broken." She replies, opening the door.
You and Carol squeeze into the back seat. It wasn't a tight fit, by any means; but anywhere that isn't 50 feet apart from her is hell on earth. How was she so fucking pretty.
Every time your skin brushed together you shot up as if you had just touched a shock wire. The glares passed between the two of you could freeze even the darkest parts of hell.
As you were getting out of the car, you slammed the door in Carol's face. She opening it, and it was obvious she was pissed.
"Oh come on, you're a fucking superhero, if you're afraid of a car door then you're in the wrong line of work."
She doesn't respond to you and instead flashes you one of her infamous fake smiles.
The Chili's is cozy, with only 15 or so booths, less than 5 of them preoccupied. The hostess kindly led you to a booth, in the corner of the room. You slide into the booth first, and your shoulder pushed against the plastic wallpaper when you moved into your seat.
Carol takes her position in the seat in front of you. Natasha doesn't sit down.
She makes deadly eye contact with you as she pulls her phone out from inside her pocket. "Oh look, I just got a text message." She exclaims, not breaking eye contact.
Natasha quickly flashes you the screen of her phone, showing that in fact, she had not gotten a message. "I have to go. Emergency."
"Are you sure." You say, yet again feigning a smile.
"I'm positive, there's an emergency at work."
Carol attempts to get up and join Natasha before Nat gives Carol a disapproving glance.
"There's always going to be an emergency, but there isn't always going to be lunch." You say, cocking your head and putting on a smirk.
"No," Natasha says. And smiles at the two of you. "Have fun."
You flip her the bird, and without even turning around she returns the favor.
"This is going to be fine." You say.
"Yep," Carol responds, popping the p.
The two of you study the menu for a couple more minutes.
You begin to notice that whenever you adjust yourself Carol does the same, and you do as well, subconsciously.
The waitress walks up to you and politely introduces herself. She asked you what you wanted and, without skipping a beat, you ordered yourself the best thing on the menu, and Carol the worst. She looked as if she was going to protest, but at that point, the waitress had walked away. And all you did was sit there and smirk.
The tension in the room was not sexual. The hatred you felt in your heart for her and the simultaneous need to kiss her and have her kiss you back was not sexual, in any way shape or form.
"So." You promptly exclaimed, in the most positive voice that you could muster.
"Yes," Carol responded, deadlocking her eyes onto yours.
The longer you stared into her eyes the more love you felt. You lost yourself in the depths of her eyes as if you were Alice just entering wonderland. The smile lines surrounding her lips were faded and it seemed as if she hadn't cracked a grin in decades. Her fair hair fell into her eyes, and she quickly brushed it out of the way with one unmanicured finger.
"Why the fuck are we doing this?" She asks, avoiding your gaze.
"What do you mean?" You counter, plastering on another one of your on-brand fake smiles.
"Forcing ourselves to sit in this hell-ish place just for the courtesy of Natasha."
You tilt your head slightly and regain eye contact, "oh, so you want to leave?" You politely ask, knowing all to well the stir that you would get from Nat if you left now.
"No, of course not." She said, rolling her eyes. "But, why would she ever think that I would ever want to be around you for longer than the 5 seconds that are already peeling off my eyes."
"It's nice to see how kind you are to the people around you." You respond, attempting to be as harmful as she was even though you were internally hurt.
"But now that you mention it, I'm realizing how shitty it is that I have to engage in conversation with someone as horrible as you." You winced, and you were positive that she didn't notice either, because she was doing the same.
"What are your powers then, fixing computers?" She mocked you with a smile "oh, the world is ending. Look, someone to get rid of a faulty line on my phone."
"Oh yeah, I forgot that you were a dinosaur. I'm sorry, we don't use phones bolted to the wall in national security." You exclaimed. You wouldn't usually be so harsh, but her words were causing you to lash out.
"At least I can hold up in a fistfight." She said, putting on another mask of a hollow smile.
"I can hold up in a fistfight just fine, but can you hold up with a speakerphone button on an iPhone?" Ah yes, another hollow shot at her prehistoric days.
"You know, for someone how talks all this talk, I'm shocked that you can't actually do anything. Oh wait, I'm not. Sorry, Princess, you're all bark and no bite."
"Excuse me, I forget I was talking to someone who flies around in a space-suit and mohawk." Yet again another fake smile.
The two of you continued to bicker for another few minutes until the waitress comes over with your food.
"I can't believe that you would do such an ignorant f-"
"Hi, I have your food." A woman with a positive attitude and a braid crown places your meals in front of you.
You quickly stopped your argument and the both of you put on yet another fake smile to make it seem like you weren't two seconds away from causing an avengers level threat.
"Thank you so much."
"Really, we really appreciate it."
The second the woman walked away you were back at each other's throats.
But, somehow, Carol was still gorgeous all the while she was yelling at you and eating a shrimp on top of a salad drenched in vinegar.
"Seriously, you're so incompetent." You quickly burst out when she notices you staring.
"Maybe you wouldn't worry so much about me if you were actually doing your job." She responds, rolling her eyes.
"I am sweetie; I'm just good enough at it to be able to pay attention to your uselessness."
"You're too kind." She exclaims as she reaches for a napkin that you quickly pull away from her.
"What I find especially depressing about you is that you will never grow. You're the same person. You're stuck in a box. You will never be better than what you are now. And what you are is shitty." She looks up at you, " Princess ."
You pull back from your meal in shock. You couldn't believe that she had said something like that to you. It pointed out everything you had ever worried about yourself.
"I can't believe you. Why are you so relentlessly horrible to me? What have I done to you? I get when you take cheap shots. I take cheap shots all the time. I don't hate you. Why do you hate me?! I don't hate you! I love you!"
Carol freezes up. Everyone in Chili's looks at you. You were screaming. And you had just told Carol you loved her. You told her you loved her. You loved her.
"What?" She says in a meek voice.
"I'm so sorry Carol, I was just-" She kisses you.
Carol kisses you.
Carol puts her lips on yours and kisses you.
And you kiss you back.
She's leaning over the table and knocked both your plates off the table and knocked you drinks over. You feel the liquid on your knees as you climb onto the table and place yourself on top of it. You kiss and you kiss until the rest of the world is null and void.
You only pull away for air, and when you're doing so Carol whispers a careful "I'm sorry."
You keep on kissing and kissing.
"I love you, I love you, I'm sorry, I love you." Muttered between you.
You finally pull away and stare into each other's eyes for a minute, basking in the beauty of her blue orbs.
"I feel god in this Chili's tonight." You breathlessly exclaim.
She laughs a beautiful, glorious laugh, and then leans in to kiss you again.
Hello Lovelies
This is my blog!!!
First and foremost I’m Ava, but my url is ithehellisbucky, and my main blog is @underestimatedheroine. This is a smut-free blog, but all other requests will be recieved. My taglists are open, just let me know. I write for the MCU, and Bucky is my favorite character (hence the username). I update most saturdays, and write mostly oneshots. I would love to have more friends on this site, so just shoot me an ask!
😘 Ava
