hey everyone! honestly I've been feeling a bit down lately so this Wednesday I indulged my (not so) secret (now) crush on lance stroll and decided to treat myself (and all the lance lovers ofc) to some well-deserved lance content, haha! and for the ones who don't like him... just give it a try anyways and trust the process haha! enjoy! 💜

One night, a few moons ago

I saw flecks of what could've been lights

Passing by unbeknownst to me

Do you know the feeling of your soul inexplicably catching fire? Of losing control of your thoughts all at once? Of your body being filled with enthusiasm at the sight of someone?

Y/N was very familiar with the thrill that hovered every time their eyes met across the room, as lately, it seemed to happen every time the young woman shared the same space with him.

It didn't matter how much she tried to deny it, or how much she looked for other justifications that would explain the butterflies she felt in her stomach.

One thing was for sure: even in a room full of the most important people in her life, she still found herself continuously looking for his big, beautiful, brown eyes.

It was almost like he was the light in every room she entered.

The driver's lips curved gently, giving her a small lopsided smile as he returned his attention to her brother, bringing his glass back to his lips.

The girl's attention dropped from his eyes to his soft lips, studying the sensual way his mouth moved as he drank the rest of his whiskey.

I wonder how his lips would feel on m- Stop, what are you even thinking?! Y/N shook her head, letting out a quiet growl, as she stopped whatever fantasy her mind was trying to create before it was possible.

We're just friends. She thought, trying to convince herself that this was just a moment of weakness. Maybe not even that.

Okay, sure, Y/N and Lance seemed to get along beautifully, the two naturally gravitating towards each other every time they got together. But in reality, Y/N couldn't help thinking that he was just being nice, keeping his future brother-in-law's little sister company.

Glancing at the boy beside the Canadian, she saw Scotty who, as if reading the thoughts in his sister's head, turned towards her and gave her a small wave, followed by a hand gesture to invite her to join them.

Y/N laughed nervously, shaking her head, and decided to walk to the large dining room table to get some more appetizers on her plate.

Nothing like good food to entertain a confused girl.

Her eyes admired the decorations throughout the house, adorned in detail, without missing a single corner. It was clear that the eldest James sibling and his fiancée had set no limits on their housewarming party.

Their new home was simply magnificent. Its rustic stone walls perfectly complemented its wooden beams and columns, maintaining the house's original charm yet giving it a modern touch.

The living room led to a majestic timbered window where Y/N seemed to spend eternities admiring the view from the top of the snow-covered mountain.

This really is Scotty's dream, endless snow, she smiled unconsciously.

"Uh-oh, she's smiling." She heard the Australian beside her, her smile growing exponentially as he leaned his back against the wall next to the window. "This can only mean danger."

"Shut up, you idiot." The girl shoved his arm playfully, shaking her head in annoyance. "FYI, I was having a proud sister moment, but I'm glad you stopped me. I definitely needed someone to wake me up from my temporary madness episode."

"Aww, baby sis, you're sooo cute." Scotty pinched her cheek, just like he always did since they were little, in order to annoy her. He knew how much she hated when he did that, so it didn't come as a surprise when she slapped his hand away from her face. "Hey! This is a no-violence zone. Just because you're an adult now doesn't mean I won't tell Mum and Dad."

Y/N rolled her eyes at the image of the smirk on her brother's face. "Just leave me alone, Scott. Go piss off Chloe or something."

The girl turned back towards the food, picking up a small pastry for herself, while the boy put his arm around his sister's shoulders.

He sighed dramatically, although she could still hear the smile on his face. "And here I was thinking you were going to say that I should 'go piss off Lance'... But I'm sure you would rather have that task for yourself, right sis?"

Almost choking on the delicacy she was eating, the girl started to cough, drawing way too much unnecessary attention to her.

Scotty was informing everyone that she was fine, enjoying her reaction to his words too much, as her eyes rose from the table.

And she couldn't help but curse her bad luck when she found Lance at the other end of the room, right in front of her, wearing a concerned look on his face, as she almost choked to death.

At that moment, she realized not even time stopped her quite like he did.

But mostly, she realized she was completely and utterly fucked.

Scotty was patting her on the back, trying to help her, but he was interrupted by the sudden movement of the girl turning towards him.

"What the hell are you talking about?" She was nervously fixing her hair, her voice still struggling to come out.

Her older brother couldn't contain his laughter, letting his hand rest on the girl's shoulder. "Oh, my sweet, sweet Y/N... Everyone knows you're head over heels for our boy Lance! No need to deny it, especially to your big bro."

"WHAT?!" She yelled, drawing all eyes in the room back to her. She chuckled lightly turning to the crowd. Before anyone could say anything, she grabbed Scotty's wrist and pulled him into the kitchen. "What?!" She scream-whispered now.

"You heard me." Scotty said, crossing his arms confidently in front of her chest. "You have a big fat crush on Lance and you know it, I know it, everyone knows it!"

"Only someone blind wouldn't be capable of seeing it!" He continued to tease her, having too much fun making her uncomfortable. "In fact, even a blind man could tell by the way you sigh all lovey-dovey every time he walks by you."

"I do not!"

"Yes, you do!"

"No, I don't!"

"Yes. You. Do." Scotty emphasized word for word, making the girl give up, even though she would never admit defeat. The man took advantage of her silence to provoke her even more. "Y/N and Lance, sitting in a tree, K-I-S-S-"

"Scott, stop! Are you a fucking child?" Y/N approached him, covering his mouth with her hand. "I hate you, I swear. Stop this nonsense!"

"Don't worry, baby sis, he likes you too. I'm sure of it." The snowboarder said, giving his sister a kiss on her temple and a final pat on the shoulder, and leaving her alone in the kitchen with her own thoughts.

Lance? Wanting me? That feels impossible. She thought to herself, feeling slightly disappointed.

But she never let those feelings hang in the air too long, immediately contradicting them.

It doesn't matter. I do not like him.

We're just friends.

Meanwhile, on the other side of the wall, Lance swept through the crowd anxiously in search of the girl that he couldn't seem to get out of his head ever since he laid eyes on her that afternoon.

Though he himself also denied his growing feelings for the young woman, Lance couldn't help but notice how his palms were sweating, or how his heart was beating faster.

He just couldn't help but feel worried when she disappeared in that state, leaving him wondering how she was.

Waking him up from his ceaseless search, a familiar hand landed on his shoulder, making him turn and find his sister with a sly smile on her face.

"Thank God you chose Formula 1 as a career because you would make a terrible actor."

"What on earth-"

"Get that lost puppy look off your face, Y/N's fine!" Chloe laughed, shaking her head. "Who knew? Two Strolls and two Jameses..."

"I'm not- I was just-" The driver found himself stuttering, unable to form a coherent sentence. "Jesus, Chloe, we're just friends! Friends care about each other. Don't start with this shit again."

"Mm-hmm, sure, friends." Chloe pretended to accept the repetitive excuse that came out of her brother's mouth every time. "I love it when you lie straight to my face just because you don't have the courage to admit that you have the hots for my favourite sister-in-law."

"I don't have the hots for-"

"Hey, watch it, pretty boy!" A voice appeared from behind him as the mysterious person quickly hugged the Canadian by his shoulders, causing his older sister to laugh uncontrollably. "It's my baby sister we're talking about here! Control your emotions, Romeo!"

"I- She- I don't-" Lance found himself in an even more awkward position again, suddenly turning into a deer in the headlights as he was caught off guard.

"Ahhh, kids." Scotty sighed, moving to his fiancée's side, leaning his head against hers without taking his eyes off the boy in front of him. "So young, so in love, and most of all... so stupid."

Lance threw his hands in the air in frustration, turning his back on the couple as he headed to the porch where he would be able to finally get rid of the two of them.

This scene feels like what I once saw on a screen

I've never seen someone lit from within

Blurring out my periphery

Lance carefully opened the elegant glass doors, being immediately hit by the intense cold that settled at the top of the mountain as usual.

He silently thanked himself for remembering to put on his army green padded coat and his grey beanie on his head. He would never have been able to survive those freezing temperatures without them, even if his Canadian blood helped him a bit.

Another factor that quickly contributed to his body heating up was the girl sitting by herself on the wooden stairs.

As soon as his brown eyes landed on Y/N, the driver could have sworn his heart started pumping faster.

Just a coincidence, he thought, this is all Chloe's fault for putting these ideas in my head.

Gathering the little courage he had left to face these new feelings that were beginning to stir within him, Lance silently walked over to her and sat down on her left side, making the girl jump in fright.

"Oh my God, Lance!" She brought one of her black-gloved hands to her chest in shock, as the other one removed the AirPods from her ears. "You were about to give me a heart attack! Please don't scare a girl like that without warning."

"Sorry, sorry! It won't happen again!" He put his hand on top of her shoulder, laughing at her reaction.

He took a few moments of silence to watch as her eyes sparkled with excitement as she took in her surroundings.

"God, it's really beautiful up here, don't you agree?" She said, almost in a whisper.

Lance kept his gaze focused on her, not even thinking about taking his eyes off her beauty.

"Just like a movie scene."

My smile is like I won a contest

And to hide that would be so dishonest

And it's fine to fake it 'til you make it

'Til you do, 'til it's true

Unaware that he was subconsciously referring to her and not the dazzling snow that surrounded them, Y/N spoke in agreement. "It is, isn't it? I feel like I'm trapped in a Christmas movie or something." She laughed, eventually letting out a happy sigh. "They're going to love living here. I'm so happy for Scotty and Chloe, you know? They deserve this."

"Yeah, me too. They deserve more than anyone else to live their dream." Lance saw the girl shiver from the corner of his eye as she hug her own body closer. The driver moved closer to her and let his hands run up and down her arms to try to warm her up. "Are you cold? Do you want to go back in?"

"No, no! I'm fine! Just a little chilly, that's all, but thanks."

"Here." The boy removed the hat from his head, pulling it over her hair. The girl blushed at the affectionate gesture, not being able to hide the smile that was stamped on her face as if she had just won a contest. "That will make you stay warmer."

Now it's like snow at the beach

"Thanks, Lance. You didn't have to do that." The girl smoothed her hair shyly, pulling it behind her ear.

As it always seemed to happen, their eyes met, and couldn't let go. They were like magnets, drawn to each other. They just couldn't stand being apart from each other.

With no sound around them other than the muffled voices from inside the house, they both felt their stomachs drop as they both realized it simultaneously.

Fuck me, I'm completely in love with him, Y/N thought.

Fuck me, I'm madly in love with her, Lance thought.

Suddenly, all seemed to be coming down. The two felt consumed all around by the connection between them and they both knew they could no longer escape their undeniable attraction.

"I think I've had enough socializing for today," Lance said, charged with adrenaline. "Do you want to get out of here?"

"Lead the way, Stroll."

The wind blew in through the open windows of the driver's Aston Martin as the two made their escape without anyone back at the party noticing.

The girl's hair was blowing in the breeze and, even though he knew he should keep his eyes on the road, Lance couldn't help but appreciate the moment and the fascinating smile she wore on her face as she sang to the song that echoed through the car.

God, she's just... absolutely gorgeous, he thought to himself.

A small smile appeared on his face, mirroring hers, as he imagined how much his older sister was going to piss him off for being right this whole time about the boy's crush on Scotty's sister.

Hopefully, the headache would pay off and he would have a chance to get the girl.

I can't speak, afraid to jinx it

I don't even dare to wish it

But your eyes are flying saucers from another planet

Now I'm all for you like Janet

Can this be a real thing? Can it?

"We're here." The boy said, parking the car in an empty lot with no one in sight.

"The beach! I love this place, how did you know?" Y/N jumped with joy, getting out of the car and letting her arms wrap around his shoulders without thinking too much about what she was doing. "Oh, sorry! I don't know what-"

She was about to pull away when Lance, driven by the realization of his most intimate emotions, pulled her closer to him by the waist. The girl's eyes widened as his face approached hers. "Just took a guess."

Oh but it wasn't a guess.

In all the years they'd known each other, Lance had found himself noticing every detail about Y/N.

The way her eyes sparkled when she talked about the happiest days of her life being at the beach.

How she bit her bottom lip every time someone asked her about her unstable career as an artist.

How she tugged the skins on her thumb impatiently whenever she didn't have her hands busy with some task.

Lance didn't know if he could speak, if he shouldn't wish for a chance with her.

He was scared, no, he was completely terrified of the idea that he might lose her.

Could they one day become a real thing?

Fuck it, he thought. It was now or never.

The driver went all-in and risked everything, moving closer to the girl as his eyes dropped to her plump lips.

He felt a gasp come out of her mouth, such was the way she was taken aback by his sudden move on her, but Lance didn't flinch and persisted on his way to her, until he felt her lips brush against his.

The two leaned towards each other, ready to be eternally consumed by their burning passion...

Until they felt a snowflake fall between their barely joined lips.

Are we falling like snow at the beach?

Y/N turned away from him as her eyes watched as the snow fell from the sky, painting the sand on the beach white.

"Is that-" Y/N couldn't believe her eyes.

"Snow? On the beach?" Lance replied, equally confused. "This is so-"

"Weird." "Fucking beautiful." The two spoke simultaneously, bursting into laughter at the difference in their reactions.

Lance's hand came up to the face of the girl in front of him, stroking her jaw with his thumb as he pressed his lips to hers not wanting to risk the moment being interrupted again.

His mouth pressed over her slightly pursed lips, starting with a gentle kiss and building in intensity as they both lost themselves in the moment for what felt like forever.

"I don't know how to put this into words but... Y/N, you are the most amazing, beautiful, fascinating girl I've ever met. Since I laid eyes on you, I've been head over heels for you. I've tried to deny it- Well, more because Chloe kept bugging me about my crush on you." The driver began to ramble on with the nervousness that came with his feeble attempt at a declaration of love. "Anyway, focus Lance! Y/N, you- You are everything. I-"

"Lance." The girl laughed, placing her hands on either side of his face and placing a quick kiss on his mouth. "I love you too."

"Yeah, those are the exact words I meant to say." He laughed, reuniting their lips once again, as they both got lost in their own little wonderland.

Ted Lasso S3E6, Sunflowers. A friendly match takes the team to Amsterdam, where one night out unlocks truths for many.

Or, from sunflowers to Wilde to Whitman to Van Gogh and back to sunflowers once again.

Wilde has been mentioned in relation to Ted Lasso before in this interview with James Lance.

Regarding Oscar Wilde, is there any work of his that you would like to be in, any plays or any of the stories of his or even like a you know biographical thing — anything of his that you would like to to be involved in?

I don’t know — all I know is that the most interesting bit of Oscar Wilde’s material that I’ve read so far is the transcript to the court case, the trial, when he got sentenced. I think his last words were as he was walking out the door, “Is there nothing more I can say,” as he was being shunted downstairs for two years hard labor, which was ultimately kind of a death sentence.

I agree that jaith is a good ship. comparing them with klance is so funny to me though. Like trying to say Jaith has more buildup is silly cause like there is equally zero development or fuel for either ship. 🤣🤣 Any shaladin shipper is gross I agree. Shiro is a beautiful old man and deserves respect not to be paired with a child or his brother yuck. Anyway your art is great!! Keep adding to the voltron renaissance!! 🤣

I think im allowed to compare bcs i do think the 2 second interaction between james and keith was written better than a majority of the keith lance interactions

And i think much of the jaith fuel comes from whats not shown on screen. James was shown being an ass to keith, why was he being an ass? James was shown going against his morals to help Hunk and Keith. Why is that? In the context of keith and james not getting along this reversal of character makes no sense, so either one of two things had to happen: some sort of reconciliation in private after keith came back, or a keith and james were on good terms before keith left and james was doing him a favour. Or both! 😄 also, how did James know keith was gonna be there huh. If he hated keith so much he wouldn’t have been able to predict his moves

All the klance scenes are written out for you with little speculative potential, which is why i believe it is weaker than jaith romantically because they show everything to you and whats shown is not romantic

Okay, general roundup of New 52 titles I have read so far, now I am well into 2013 in my read through:-

Batwoman, J.H. Williams run – genuinely great. This is a highlight of the New 52, honestly. If DC had stopped occasionally remembering that Kate Kane is now Bruce’s cousin and had let Kate and Maggie get married, it would be perfect.

Blue Beetle – it’s not the best Jaime run I’ve ever read, but in terms of restructuring Jaime’s origin to simplify it and remove the heavy connection with Infinite Crisis shenanigans, it worked far better than the Rebirth reboot. Let down by getting cancelled just as it started becoming more interesting (aka had finally finished the retread of Jaime’s origin story and started him having new adventures).

Threshold – this was certainly a comic I read entirely to see Jaime in it. If you are lucky enough to know nothing about it, it’s basically a planet of foxhunting tagged ‘criminals’, where Jaime ends up one of the tagged. It’s meandering, pointless and bad. I think if you’re a Lantern fan you’d also think it was bad. Deservedly knocked off after 8 issues.

Justice League Dark – I made it through 6 issues. My biggest takeaways were that everyone here was just so miserable and Boston Brand was dating Dawn Granger for reasons that surpassed understanding. I want to like it more than I do, for the cast it has.

Batgirl, Gail Simone run – appealing and infuriating in turn. There’s some genuinely beautiful writing here (the WWII paper balloons!) and Babs is recognisable as Babs, but it’s horribly let down by the fact that ‘healing’ Barbara means that she’s now both not allowed to operate as Oracle (by editorial dictat) AND she’s having trouble as a street vigilante as she’s still recovering from her injuries. It makes sense but it also makes Barbara doubly incompetent which is maddening as they’ve taken away everything that was hers specifically. Also James Gordon Jnr is always intensely irritating to have around and I am never going to get over giving Babs a villain called ‘Knightfall’ in the run immediately after healing her back. Yes. I got the reference. It’s not that funny.

Birds of Prey – it’s hmmm still finding its feet. Lacks the soul of the original run, but there are flashes of the old magic occasionally. It is hilarious to me that they decided to merge Dinah Drake and Dinah Lance back into a single character for this run, creating a bizarre new ex-husband for Dinah in Kurt Lance (seriously, Kurt Lance, why do you exist you’re so weird) and then within 6 issues or so abruptly realised WHY Dinah Drake and Dinah Lance have been separate characters since 1983 and reinvented a new Dinah Drake mother for the character. Spectacular. Sheer evidence that nobody involved in new 52 was actually spending much time thinking about how an all new origin reboot would affect characterisation.

Batman – I have my differences with Scott Snyder over his run, but he at least manages to make things interesting and spend time interrogating Bruce’s identity. It feels in conversation with the Loeb and Dini storylines around Thomas Elliot and that whole crowd of elite Gothamites. Lots of interesting set ups let down by execution or obsession with conspiracy theories. Love his work with Harper Row as a character.

Batman & Robin – okay folk, I do agree, this is a far far better Batman & Robin run than 2009. I feel like I’ve spent more time with Damian showing me his character rather than being informed by Morrison via Alfred mouthpiece about Damian’s character. There’s some lovely character work in here. It’s still suffering from getting New 52ed but it’s honestly the first run anywhere that’s actually really good for Damian characterisation (plus or minus the Damian and Colin Wilkes fight Zsasz plot in Streets of Gotham or Gates of Gotham).

Batman Incorporated – fuck you Grant Morrison. Nobody reading this title is having a good time. If you’re here for actual Batman Inc characters well I’m sorry, they’re mostly standing around the sidelines of a plot about Bruce, Talia and Damian. If you’re here for Talia I’m so sorry for you. If you’re here to read Bruce and/or Damian you get like 3-4 sweet scenes that I am sure you have already seen in screencapped panels floating around with no context. DC would be a better place if this book hadn’t been approved (also Cyril might still be alive)

Nightwing – this comic so far is obsessed with Haly’s Circus. Now I don’t like the whole Talon retcon (I think it cheapens a lot of things about Dick’s backstory as a character) but I will admit it’s nice to see Dick spending time with his Haly’s Circus friends and Dick’s optimistic side coming out in the ‘let’s just rebuild Amusement Mile as a place that isn’t Joker-haunted!’ Tragically of course because we’re never allowed to have nice plotlines involving Haly’s Circus it gets blown up again and lots of people die. But at least Dick’s back to owning the circus, amirite? (For bizarre ‘Pop Haly left it to him in his will’ reasons rather than Dick buying it out with his inheritance money that is totally not one of the many occasions Bruce has lied to Dick and told him that this trust fund is 100% based on investments of his parents assets, rather than Bruce attempting to give Dick Wayne money again so he stops living out of cardboard boxes in a tiny apartment)

Red Hood and the Outlaws – I have now suffered through three whole issues of this comic (actually 4 but I paged through that one to read like one scene at the end) and it is determined to make me hate everyone involved with it in terms of its disrespect for Roy and Kory. Also all the issues kept trying to convince me that Jason and Tim have always been each others’ favourite brothers, which lol. (If that’s actually ever true for Jason it’s the most hilarisad thing ever).

Teen Titans – I made it through two issues for crossover purposes. I am tempted to come back as I think I will get some stuff out of it once I’ve finished my Teen Titans 2003 read (and look there does actually appear to be some things in here I may enjoy). Can’t believe Kurt Lance shows up in this comic. I swear he’s my new nemesis.

Suicide Squad – I am 100% not reading this comic, I only opened it for crossover issues. What have they done to Amanda Waller. (Also why is Harley Quinn trying to date Floyd Lawton, did editorial suddenly realise how many people are into his deep uh comradery with Thomas Blake and overreact trying to remove the gay cooties or something?)

Catwoman and Detective Comics – honestly I haven’t got a good enough read on either yet from the few issues I’ve read, but ‘Tec is running a Penguin plot and I’m not in the mood for a Penguin plot at the moment.

So far, my recommendations: Batwoman I recommend without hesitation. Batman & Robin has been embroidered in fans’ memories but is worthwhile in any case. Batman is interesting stories sometimes let down in execution and may actually read better if you avoid touching any tie-in issues for a readthrough.

Nightwing, Batgirl, Birds of Prey and Blue Beetle are “these are some of my favourite characters, I want to know even if I don’t always like it” reads. They’re still the same characters, just trapped in a maddening world.

She looks absolutely breathtaking and you can see the emotions in her eyes and Hannah is quite literally the most humble person on earth so you can see how honored she felt for the opportunity she was given. And she did not disappoint. The performance was spectacular, she gave it all. She served the look, fun, emotion, beauty. She really did give it all and left no crumbs. I’m continuously in awe of her and her incredible, beautiful, raw talent and I love, I love her on tv and in movies but when she’s performing on a stage she elevates herself to a whole new level that comes from somewhere spiritual or magical I don’t know but you can see the switch in her, something lights up and shines more than it usually does and you’re left breathless. I feel so lucky and privileged to be able to witness this, HER, a true goddess. So as the great James Lance said: “Hannah Waddingham, I just want to say thanks for being on the planet at the same time as the rest of us” ❤️

Junior Thesis

some stuff I worked on for my junior thesis project earlier this year. Ill share the full finished comic later on but for now enjoy these character designs and such 🫶

the watercolor version of the cover looked too much like bradley james when that was like, not the point of the assignment, which is why the finished digital version looks so much different. I still prefer the original watercolor version but i tend to always favour my watercolor versions of things

In depth explanation below cut

the junior thesis assignment was the adapt a book into a six page comic and we could have creative freedom with certain things and the book only ever mentioned the color of guenever's hair and eyes, NOT her skin color or features and so I had my fun with her design. the ONLY description they give lancelot in the entire book is that hes ugly and beauty is subjective so i gave him "non traditional" features. In one of my original sketches for him, he was going to have crooked teeth, but unfortunately i do not draw teeth well LMAO. I wanted Arthur and Lancelot's designs to contrast each other as well. Arthur is shorter and stockier where Lance is taller and thinner, Arthur keeps his feelings quiet while Lance wears them on his chest, and then i wanted there to be the stark color difference too between them.

Morgause and Mordred were fun, but they both had a lot more descriptive descriptions in the book, so I didn't get as much creative control outside of their outfits. I assigned the Lot family the color blue and the Camelot cotizens red to try and contrast better throughout the story and it was kinda fun cause it made mordred look like an ice prince or something.

also despite gwen lance and arthur being around the same age at the point of my comic, i wanted to try and make arthur look the oldest, sort of visually show how much being king and his decisions has weighed on him, especially since the scene I adapted was pretty heavy.

also i did have a reference page for gwen but at some point it got deleted? so in this its just a fun drawing I did of her holding excalibur instead. I do also have a full reference drawing for exacalibur in my files that was useless because i never ended up drawing it in the comic LMAO

the last photo is the cornwall sisters, Elaine, Morgan and Morgause. With their designs i had fun trying to make them look related to each other, to Arthur and their parents but also try to not make them all have the same face. Elaine looks like her mother, Morgan looks like her father, Morgause looks like a mix of both (Uthers hair color but Ygraine's hair style, Uther's face but Ygraine's eye color) and Arthur looks like a perfect blend of both too. I sort of did the same with Mordred where I took features from both morgause and arthur to make him look related but like his own person. Ygraine and Uther are only in one panel so there's no proper ref for either of them.

This project was a five month process, six if you count writing the script to fit within a six page comic without losing any details from the book and creating my pitch for my professor (all of which was done over winter break)

The project took FOREVER and I definitely am not happy with the final result but its due to the fact i had frequent doctor visits and hospitalisations and wasnt able to work on it as much as I had wanted, PLUS i had an eight page comic for another class i worked on also over the same five months (and i was more focused on that one as it was my own original characters)4

regardless though, i do still like it, just wish it cane out better in the end lmao

hello all you beautiful people!

a little unknown fact about me: i love reading! i mainly read reference material and nonfiction, but i don't mind the occasional fiction! i have plenty of friends on here who like reading (after all, you're on my page!) and who love elvis, so i figured i'd make a compendium of books that were adapted into elvis' movies.

it will be organized by the movie / the year it came out, and the story / its author. i'll also include a little description of each.

-love me tender (1956) & the story of the reno gang: this movie was not based on a story, but actual historical events! the reno gang were a group of brothers who went around the midwest robbing trains. clinton reno was a real person, the youngest of the five brothers (his nickname was "honest", as he never got involved with any criminal activity pertaining to his brothers.)

-loving you (1957) & a call from mitch miller by mary agnes thompson: the movie was based on a short story by mary agnes thompson that was featured in the june 1956 edition of good housekeeping.

-king creole (1958) & a stone for danny fisher by harold robbins: king creole was the first of el's movies to be based on an entire book! the role was originally meant for james dean, and was set in the backstreets of new york city.

-flaming star (1960) & flaming lance by clair huffaker: this was one of two movies where the original author was involved in creating the screenplay.

-wild in the country (1961) & the lost country by j.r. salamanca: although some creative liberties were taken (el's character went from an artist to a writer and hope lange's character became a psychiatrist rather than a teacher), it still followed the same plot as the original novel. it was also the first to feature elvis on a published paperback.

-follow that dream (1962) & pioneer, go home! by richard p. powell: the novel is based on a family from new jersey (WOOT WOOT), and although technically based on the book, the movie takes many creative liberties to the point of it being almost completely opposite the original source material.

-stay away, joe (1968) & stay away, joe by dan cushman: this is what el considered his first "serious" role. although involving some incredibly racist stereotypes, it is rooted in some truth about elvis' lineage: his great-great-great grandmother was a cherokee woman named morning white dove, and some attribute his high cheekbones and striking features to his distant native ancestry.

-live a little, love a little (1968) & kiss my firm but pliant lips by dan greenburg: the movie, like follow that dream, was so loosely based on the book that it was almost completely opposite the original source material.

-charro! (1969) & charro! by harry whittington: this is the only "officially endorsed" book based on an elvis movie.

-the trouble with girls (1969) & chautauqua by day keene: this is my absolute favorite movie of all time, and ironically, there is no information about the book's plot. based on what i've gathered from other sources, it follows an almost identical plot to the movie. unfortunately, the author died 9 months prior to the movie's release.

-change of habit (1969) & title-not-available by richard morris and john joseph: according to wikipedia, change of habit was based on a story written by richard morris and john joseph. i've scoured the internet under both of those names, and found nothing! oh well.

Ooh that's so nice of you!! I hope you don't mind if I complain about something that's actually my fault, but I think I need a virtual hug (which I'm returning of course 🤗). The worst thing the S3 finale did to me (even if it's my fault because I let it happen) is that it made me stop shipping Tedependent and I didn't want to!!! I truly didn't want to!!! It's not the fact that Ted left, it's the way Ted talked to Trent, and logically, rationally, my brain knows Ted was depressed and sad and hurting, but all the same, my heart suddenly was not into Tedependent anymore and I actually suffer because of it!! It's so unfair!!! That ship was in my mind almost 24/7, I loved them with all my heart, I thought it would last, and now nothing!!! And I know it's my fault for letting it happen, but it's still so sad and I'm mourning over it, so I thought to take advantage of you offering free hugs :)

On my salty Ted Lasso sideblog, it's always season 3's fault!

They brought Trent in and gave him next to nothing. When he was there and genuinely able to participate in the plot, it was spectacular. I kinda ship Roy/Trent now after that scene in the showers. (And hats off to the few writers holding down that fort on AO3, y'all are so important.) The scene with Colin when they talked at the memorial was beautiful. James Lance is an incredible actor who connects to his scene partner very naturally.

But he and Ted barely interacted this season. And, believe me, I had no delusions that Tedependent was ever going to be canon, but I had hoped to address Trent's feelings for Ted in some way because the first two seasons (and now we know for sure James Lance, bless him) built up that something there, and it would have been interesting to see Trent coming to terms with it while interacting regularly with Ted, even if Ted wasn't aware of what was happening. But it almost seemed like they were trying to walk it back this season.

And the whole thing with Trent being excited about the book and Ted calling him the "laugh police" left a sour taste in my mouth. It was mean, and it was kind of an unexpected gut punch as an autistic who gets like that about stuff a lot. Overall, the way Ted was so cold and distant in the last episode was bad storytelling to me. I won't go into the whole thing again, but I talked before about the lack of catharsis in the finale that led a lot of people (me, I'm a lot of people) to interpret the end as unsettling at best.

FWIW, I don't think it's your fault anyway. I can only speak to my own fandom experience, but I don't really have control over my shipping or what prompts me to read or write fanfic or if I want my fanon to align with my canon or be a separate entity or any of that stuff. I find it's best to just let my feral fandom instincts guide me.

Extremely unfair that I sit down with pen and paper to take notes and the episode doesn’t feature My Main Man! In true fandom fashion, I will none the less proceed to make my episode reaction post all about him...

I foresee that the giant expanded cast of regulars is going to trip us up often with these either or situations - I deeply resent being made to choose between Nate and Trent. (HI TRENT!!! My favourite little smirky shit with the HAIR. You can vaguely saunter downwards on my screen any time you want, I have missed you!)

Look, Roy and Trent are my two blorbos, and getting extended interaction with them, and backstory, and deep nonverbal communication of various emotions was just delightful. And because we weren’t shown a pin, I am going to headcanon that Roy can burst balloons with his bare hands, like the animal he is. James Lance is clearly having the time of his life leaning into the comic elements of his character, and I love how ridiculous he lets him be.

Speaking of unexpected backstory... Rebecca was a bartender?! Where the fuck did that come from? She clearly and canonically comes from money. I thought she might have been a business manager of some kind, associated with Richmond, which is how she met Rupert, but this makes her qualifications to run (not just own) a football club all the more shaky. Also now she’s established that she was willing to help Rupert cheat on his wife... I have no idea why she would then be so shocked that she was in turn cheated on. And I’m sure Rupert used the same tactics with his bartender affair that he got Leslie to help him with later, so again, just how deluded has Rebecca been?

But since I’m talking about Rebecca anyway, let me drag this back to Nate, and how difficult it is to watch a show that attempts both comedy and pathos. Because it gives me whiplash being told to selectively suspend my disbelief for some situations and not for others. It’s like when you watch slapstick comedy - you know its ok to laugh at the pie in the face because EVERYONE is going to end up with that pie, and there is the shared trust that no one is actually hurt. But if a theatrical play has a haha pie moment with one character, and then flips to another where someone stumbles and then starts crying from the pain, I’m going to feel like shit for having been primed to laugh at what I thought I was told was a pratfall.

Rebecca, more than any other character on the show, has being shown doing things that get excused because of her position as beautiful, white, girlboss. Back in season 1, she walked into the locker room without knocking, surprising two players with their pants down (in contrast to Keeley, who we see asking for consent to enter right in the first episode). And now - she literally committed sexual harassment.

Bit ironic given the current British transphobic scaremongering around bathrooms, but yeah, stalking someone into a bathroom of the opposite gender and getting close to them while they are urinating, then literally negging them and mocking the smell of their urine is - sexual harassment.

And being asked to let it go because Zava seems fine with it is like letting go of Nate kissing Keeley because she said it was ok afterwards. I have been on the fence about whether to think of that as sexual harassment or not because ‘kissing someone without explicit verbal permission’ is one of those highly cultural context dependant gestures that sometimes people are happy about, and sometimes are genuinely ok writing off as an innocent misread of body language. But I certainly haven’t just laughed it off, and the show has shown Nate to have agonised about his offence afterwards. Will Rebecca even spare a second thought to the gravity of all her wrongdoings?

I have more to say, but I need to do a rewatch with subtitles on to catch all the dialogues I missed. (Is it me, or did Jamie’s accent suddenly become, like his hair, even weirder?)

Meanwhile to conclude with our regular spot of shallow aesthetic appreciation - how happy I was to see the Hot Photographer Lady from Keeley’s Vogue shoot back! Her name is Janette and she’s played by the radiant Miranda Shamiso, And I love her.

Genuine question: if there was a trans actor who had already had top surgery (or not idk if this even matters), would you draw them or a character they played with a pre-surgery chest? Cause I feel like that would be pretty insensitive and would probably make them uncomfortable. So why is it okay to draw a cis actor like that?

hello anon!

first, it depends on if the character the trans person is playing is trans or not i suppose? trans people aren’t exclusively limited to trans roles and if a trans person played a canonically cis character in a show, i suppose i’d draw them as if they were cis? which is to say, not much would probably change apart from a lack of surgery scars. that being said if a trans actor’s character’s gender is left up to interpretation, even if not Stated that character as trans, i’d still treat them as such because being trans is a very beautiful and complicated and difficult existence that is often very impactful on one’s life and to erase that would be insensitive.

second, i guess my answer to your question is that it’s not hurting anyone and it’s helping someone? if i were to draw a trans person as cis, im erasing a rich history of gender from a person who has put a lot of thought and effort into how they identify, how they present, who has faced discrimination, perhaps from their own community, friends, family, who’s discovered their euphoria, maybe dealt with dysphoria, something i deal with every day. drawing these characters helps me feel like i’m not going through it alone, make me feel comforted.

if i may pose a question to you- why do you care? /gen

truly i believe im not hurting anyone with my art, i’m drawing the characters, not the actors, even if they look similar (i do keep them separated in my mind) and i highly doubt that jason sudeikis or james lance are going to see these any time soon, and if they did? i think they’d be a little confused, because they’re (presumably) cis men who haven’t thought about The Trans Experience™️ very often or for very long periods of time. i think if they had the context of “i am a trans person and it helped me to create something in their likeness” they’d be less confused but i truly think people have made worse fanart in the long run than some people learning to love their bodies.

im sorry that it rubbed you the wrong way- that may mean it’s just not for you and that’s okay!

— DESCRIPTION: on a random friday night, fernando got a message from his supposed “blind date”.

Lance is now absolutely losing his mind and spamming Fernando’s phone but the older driver just closed his phone pretending that his phone’s not buzzing at all. Now that he’s chosen an outfit— the one’s Lance did not chose to be exact, he now lay down on his bed calming down his nerves for his date tomorrow. What did he even gotten himself into?

Despite the fact that his anxiety is through the roof, he can’t help but smile to the thought that he’s actually going on a date. What is she’s going to be like? Does she likes pastas that’s why she requested the Blańc? Does she thinks Greese is cool? Does she likes bands? He doesn’t even met her yet but he’s thinking about her already. He buried his face on a pile of pillows to drown out his thoughts (not that it helped anyway). He’s acting like a teenager on his first date and it’s making him feel appalled.

Fernando looks at his clock and it says 7:00. The restaurant is just 30 minutes away from his place but he hopped on his car already— afraid to be late to his date. He was about to put his key on the ignition when he received a message.

This is getting too real now. He let out a nervous breath as he drove away from his house. Before going to the restaurant he decided to buy some flowers for her. It’s already 7:50 when he got to the restaurant. He was about to message Lex to ask her about her whereabouts when he accidentally bumped into someone, Fernando dropped his phone and the stranger picked it up for him. “Oh, I am really sorry” you said, scrambling giving him his phone. “No, no. My fault for not looking anyway.” Fernando said. You were about to give back his phone but you saw what’s flashed on the screen, it’s your text messages. “So, you are James?” you asked. “Sorry?” Fernando said staring at you confused. He now saw how you looked like.

And you looked… really pretty.

Your hair is perfectly tied on a knot, showing your beautiful eyes, and your perfect complexion. An angel in disguise, he thought. Fernando was about to zone out but you spoke again. “I’m Lex, sorry if I asked Ali for your name already. I mean it’s just fair since you know mine, anyway.” you said. “Oh! Yeah. I’m James. Nice to meet you.” Fernando, or James said. He’s too deep on this lie now to chicken out now. Identify theft pfft, what is that?

After a few moments you and James are now seated on a table beside a large window. You stare at the view admiring the beauty of Oviedo. After a few seconds of silence you move your head on his direction. “I don’t really do this often, sorry if I’m being awkward or anything.” you said apologetically. “No, you are being perfect. Don’t worry at all.” James told you. You saw how his eyes glisten while he talks to you. He’s quite handsome, you thought. He is also a bit older for your age but you didn’t really quite mind. Ali is quite the matchmaker.

While waiting for the food, James started a conversation. Surprisingly, he did not asked what your favourite colour is. Which is rare. Instead he asked you if you believe in aliens, you said no, giving him all the same old reason, saying that it’s just fictional and there is no evidence of it. “What?! Fictional? No. The universe is complex. And it’s really really huge. To think that aliens doesn’t exists is kind of crazy. And no evidence? Do you not know about the USS Nimitz 2004 where they saw and I quote “an unidentified flying white object, without wings, and no rosters” What else could it be? A UFO! Es un maldito, UFO! Los extraterrestres son definitivamente reales. (it’s a fucking UFO. aliens are definitely real.) You chuckled at how passionate he is about it. He’s been geeking about aliens for quite some time now, he only realized when a waiter served you your food. “Oh. I’m sorry I think I rambled too much about UFO’s and aliens and stuffs.” He said embarrassed. “Don’t be. I enjoyed it. I might actually believe in aliens now.” you told him, giving him a huge smile.

After a few moments it’s now your turn to talk, “Yeah, my name is actually Alexandra Alegra Camille Adriana Montelle Gonźalez.” you said to him. You can hear him choke from the wine he’s drinking. You let out a small laugh from his reaction. “It’s like your parents couldn’t choose from all the baby names they prepared and just used everything!” he said jokingly. “I know right?! Writing all that before in all my school paper is such an experience.” You can see him let out a laugh of his own. “I must say, Adriana is a pretty name.” “Only a few loved ones calls me that. I guess you can be one of them.”

The date went better than you expected. You were worried that you would do something to ruin it but James made sure that you are comfortable and heard. He was interested in every word that you says. It’s cute how focused he is listening to all your silly thoughts. He also promised that he will watch your favourite movie so that you’ll have something to talk about on the next date. Next date already, huh? You are happy to know that he enjoyed the night just like you did. It was 11:30 pm when you bid goodbye to him. As much as you want to spend more time with him, it’s already late and you wanted to give him a rest as well. He offered to give you a ride home, you declined it but gave in after a few (a lot) of convincing from him.

The ride home was silent, not the awkward kind though. It’s a comfortable silent. The silence after a tiring yet good time. Summer Nights started playing on the radio. “I love this song!” you exclaimed, turning up the volume. You sang along to the song while James hummed with you. It’s a perfect end to the night.

“Thank you for the ride, James.” you said, while giving him a hug. “Mmhm, have a good night, Adi.” You smiled at your new nickname and gave him a last good bye.

As Fernando walks to his car he couldn’t help but jump in joy. Such a perfect night, indeed.

The Mosley Review: John Wick Chapter 4

Has it really been that long. Has it really been since 1987's classic buddy cop action film Lethal Weapon that a franchise has survived for 4 films and its sequels enriched and elevated the genre to the next level? I know Lethal and Wick are different in tone, style and many other things, but what they have in common is great central characters evolving with each entry and storytelling that is top notch in between the stylized, well crafted and sometimes personal action sequences. No other franchise in my opinion has done that in so long. Maybe Daniel Craig's run as James Bond may count as well. A fun fact that many don't remember or don't know is that the first film was being buried because the studio didn't believe anyone would like or even care about it. I remember seeing a commercial before even a trailer! What that first film did was refresh and reinvent the action genre in the most ground breaking way. It threw away the overuse of shakey cam and actually painted the frame with beautiful action and storytelling within the action. It was a great revenge tale that spawned a new world with exquisite rules and visuals that were fully realized. Now we have come to the 4th chapter in this franchise and it is the most epic, globe trotting and gorgeous finale of all. The story this time is the most emotionally driven and comes full circle with the themes of the first film and I loved it. The action this time around is that steady rollercoaster climb with every click you hear of the gears churning to the apex. I loved that the lore is even more expansive, but never burst its own bubble by going an obvious direction where most franchises have made that mistake.

Keanu Reeves returns as the titular hero and the charm of the character is still intact. He is fighting for his freedom this time around and it is a hard fought battle to the bloody end to say the least. His physicality in this film reaches a new height and you actually see him get even more beat up and tired this time around. He is human after all and that has been consistent throughout the franchise and it comes to a head here. The amount of empathy in John is explored with his closest friends and that was truly the highlight. Ian McShane was excellent and wise yet again as John's closest friend, adviser and former manager of the New York Continental Hotel, Winston Scott. Winston is taken on an equally emotional journey as he is punished for his involvement in the events of the third chapter and I loved his brilliant path of vengeance. The late and powerhouse actor Lance Reddick gives one last excellent performance as Winston's right hand man and former concierge of the Continental, Charon. I've always loved his conversations and quips when he was with Winston and John and he gets to shine one last time as the fan favorite. Laurence Fishburne returns as the Bowery King and he is as jovial as he was in the last chapter. His respect for John grows ever more in this entry and it was great to see him chewing up the scenery again. The legendary Hiroyuki Sanada joins the franchise as the manager of the Osaka Continental Hotel and an old friend of John, Shimazu Koji. There is so much history there between them and you feel the weight of their bond from the moment they say hello to each other. Rina Sawayama was amazing as his daughter and concierge Akira. She gets to shine in some of the most badass moments of the film and I loved the relationship between her and Shimazu. It was a high point in showing the emotional connection John has with everyone. The consequences of her father's actions were felt and it was a story that highlighted the Japanese influence this series has had over the years. Donnie Yen is a master class in his own right and I'm always delighted to see him on screen. As Caine, you get to see a great and empathetic character come to life through him and I loved his arc with Shimazu. He carries so much respect for his friends even when he has to face them in combat. His chemistry with John was another great highlight of the film and I loved their dialogue. I love the fact that everyone is rooting for John, but of course they have a contract and you see the inner turmoil as they all converse with him before, during and even after the bullets stop flying.

Natalia Tena was awesome as John's adoptive sister Katia and I loved that we got see their families backstory. It is bloody, dark and all the more fun story beat. Shamier Anderson was the fun and teasing wildcard as the Tracker / Mr. Nobody. He came off to me as a younger, ambitious and patient version of John with his canine companion that was just as enthusiastic. The both of them were this constant threat and interesting thread that keeps getting unraveled as the story progresses. Scott Adkins was hilarious and awesome as the heavy yet spry head of the Russian table, Killa. Even as an over weight character, he was still a force to be reckoned with. Clancy Brown brings that level of authority and gravitas as a high ranking operative of the High Table of Assassins, the Harbinger. Bill Skarsgård was excellent and exquisite as the new villain the Marquis Vincent de Gramont. He was so slimey and pompous in his ways and you cannot wait to see him go down. He was viscious in some moments and I loved his slick tongue in negotiating the terms of combat scene. Marko Zaror portrays his right hand man Chidi and he was an amazingly powerful mini boss before you got to Vincent. He was a great challenge and he handled himself well against John and others. This film truly featured some of the best villains the franchise has ever seen and I loved that we got them instead of facing the High Table. These antagonists kept the world grounded and obeyed the rules set from the beginning.

The score by Tyler Bates and Joel J. Richard was on point yet again and they pull out all the stops in every scene, but my favorite piece came during the best action scene in the film. The locations in the film were a great background and were interactive with the characters which showed how much detail and care was put into this saga. The last hour of the film is a full on homage to one of the greatest 80's survival films of all time, The Warriors. The stairs sequence was the best action sequence in the film and was the crescendo of John's trek through Paris and I loved every second of it. This chapter comes to a satisfying and peaceful close and it is a true blessing that this franchise has continued to deliver this amount of quality storytelling that's perfectly mixed with beautifully shot action that doesn't fall for the standard tropes of the shakey cam or extreme close ups to hide the stunt men or the actors inability to do the work effectively. This is now the blueprint of how to do action films from now on and how to shoot them. Director Chad Stahelski has come from the stunt world and these films have shown his understanding and respect for the craft of stunts and filmmaking. This is by far one of the best films of the year and one of the greatest epic finales I've ever seen. Let me know what you thought of the film or my review in the comments below. Thanks for reading!
