It continues to shock me how much the Snaters really don't know the canon.
First, Lily never rejected Severus the two of them have been best friends for years. The one pestering Lily to go out with him was James.
Second, the scene where Snape goes to Godric's Hollow doesn't exist in the book, it's just an addition in the movie to make everything more dramatic. (If we want to consider movie scenes canon then most of the accusations made don't exist since they don't happen. These people are really too confused) And then what? Or if we take the scene from the film at face value, Snape hugs the woman he loves instead of helping Harry, so what? This poor man was destroyed, can we leave him alone for two seconds to cry?

Why nobody talks about this?!
I never actually read the books so I might be wrong, but why the fact that James was a douchebag doesn't seems to affect Harry in anyway?
When I first heard of it I was excited, usually the dead parent of the chosen one protagonist trope is just a nice, sweet person who was kind and loved by everybody and that's the reason why their deaths was so tragic, after all, why do bad things happen to good people? (See Summer Rose from RWBY, Nadeshiko from Sakura Card Captors and even Lily herself as examples.)
But James is different. He's a mean bully and a sexual harasser. Maybe that's because he's male and all the examples I mentioned were females.
Considering that Harry spends so much time hating Draco for being a bully, why doesn't he have a identity crisis and a reality shock with the revelation that his own father was like that, if not worse?!
• I want to see Harry going through a moral dilema!
• I want him to question if his parents were really the good people he thought they were!
• I want Harry to start looking at Sirius in a different light, realizing that he's may not be who he thought he was!
• I want Harry to get himself mid thought trying to justify his father's actions and then try to apply that justifications to Draco's behavior, and then getting disgusted because nothing justifies bullying!
• I want to see Harry struggling to set a line between pranks and bullying.
• I want Harry to be afraid he turns out like James!

Let‘s talk about how Remus Lupin.
Humiliated his colleague.
Who he and his friends had already tormented for years before that.
Who was almost murdered by his friends.
The man who kept his mouth shut for years and did not tell anyone about Remus true nature.
Eventhough he almost died because of it.
The man who never receieved a single fucking apology.
Because, you know.
They were just silly teenage pranks.
Right?
Let‘s talk about how Remus Lupin humiliated his teenage bully victim once more as an adult by encouraging Neville to imagine him in his grandmothers clothing.
In front of the whole class.
Knowing fully well that not a day later every single student in the castle would have heard about it.
And laughed about it.
Let‘s talk about how fucking cruel Remus was towards Severus.
He did it deliberately.
Fully knowing what would happen.
For a laugh.
Just like in the good old days.

“but james potter was a bully””he bullied snape!!!” ok? someone had to do it.
🙄
~Here’s a list of good and shitty things Snape did canonically:
Bad:
•Snape was a blood supremacist who called lily a slur.
•invented a curse for enemies (marauders)
I don’t think a good person would make up a curse which mutilates someone terribly. That too, during his time in Hogwarts.
Tumblr media
•oh yeah later on he became a death eater 😋 (the main goal of the death eaters wasto eliminate all muggle-borns in the wizarding world and establish voldemort as its ruler)(magical nazis basically).
Plus when voldy was going to kill lily, Snape was like yk what you can kill the husband and the INFANT just don’t hurt my lily flower teehee like okay james bullied him so him not caring about james made sense but harry was a child bro
•BULLIED CHILDREN DURING HIS TIME AS A PROFESSOR????? he was literally neville’s bogart ffs and not because “some teachers are just scary okay Neville was afraid of almost everything!!!” but because Snape bullied neville on a daily basis plus threatened to kill his pet after a failed potion thingy. plus he made fun hermione’s physical appearance (when draco made her teeth all big and Snape was like hah it’s the same there’s no difference) and he bullied for BEING GOOD AT ACADEMICS LIKE 😭😭😭???? He bullied almost everyone in Hogwarts I just know it.
•sectumsempra’d George’s year off.
•tried to out Remus Lupin as a werewolf for NO reason other than his childish misdemeanour.
Good:
•called Sirius and Remus an old married couple.
•saves Katie bell from a cursed necklace
•saves draco malfoy from a terrible curse that could’ve killed him by the counter charm “vulnera saneteur”
can someone guess which curse Snape saved draco from??? You’re right! It was sectumsempra!
•switched sides or smth
~Here’s a list of good and shitty things james did canonically:
Bad:
•called Snape snivellus (was funny ngl)
•bully snape
Good:
•turned into an illegal animagus at the age of 15 so his werewolf friend (Remus) has company during his transformations.
•took sirius black in after he ran away from an abusive hoursehold.
•SAVED FUCKING SNAPE FROM REMUS IN HIS WEREWOLF FORM AFTER SIRIUS SENT HIM THERE.
JAMES SAVED SNAPE.
•literally died trying to stall Voldemort so Lily and Harry have some time to escape or just live in general.
So my point is canon james was a bit of an asshole but he still did way more good deeds than Snape even though Snape was in all the seven books like one of the good things he did was literally the consequences of his own actions (healing draco).
All of this is canon btw. NONE of it is fanon.
sincerely keep my wife’s name out of your fucking mouth he did what should have been done.

i laugh whenever someone says harry was popular/well-liked/respected, cuz really? we talking about the same harry here? the one who was ostracized and mocked by his peers in literally 3/6 of his school years? the guy who everyone treated like either a celebrity crush or a ticking bomb? you say he was RESPECTED? sorry, do we need to go over what respect is again?

JK Rowling: I wanted Harry to end up in a relationship that paralleled jily. That’s why I had him end up with Ginny.
Me: Ok but I’m quite sure that neither Harry nor Ginny have ever called each other an arrogant bullying toerag. But I'm also quite sure Harry has said that about Draco. Probably multiple times.

Reached a new level of wondering how Marauders fans minds work. Saw someone say that James Potter is like Elle Woods from Legally Blonde.
Tumblr media
Elle would hate the Marauders. James and Elle are nothing alike. Elle would never bully someone or mistreat someone for being different.
However she would end up adopting Severus and giving him a makeover and a self-esteem pep talk.

“lily didn’t like james until he matured and stopped being annoying”
that’s all well and good but where are the angsty fics where james struggles with his self worth and feels like he can never make a mistake or be unlikeable again because he believes lily will leave him

Let's start the year by having a healthy laugh. I found this comment under a Tiktok video defending Snape. It simply said "Snape didn't deserve to be bullied by the Marauders" This answer made me laugh too much.
Tumblr media
Sorry but... WTF?? Do we really use fanon events to blame and hate characters?
Then we can say that Harry is evil, because Dark Harry fanfiction exists, Hermione hates house elves, because there is a fanfiction in which she mistreats them. But come on, this doesn't make the slightest sense.
Only Canon is Canon
Happy New Year

one of the funniest things I've ever seen in m fandom is the hc that James was actually a seer so he only bullied snape bc he had random visions of snape being mean to his kid in the future

Jegulus is just a Jeverus in a slightly different font. Marauders fans already push severus' entire personality into regulus nowadays

I‘m sorry, but if i saw my best friend surpressing a smile seeing me hanging upside down, my underwaer- possibly even my genitals- being exposed in front of strangers, that friendship would be over.
She would be dead to me from that point onwards.
You certainly wouldn‘t see me begging her on hands and knees to take me back.
That train has left.
The fact that Severus still tried to reconcile with her after this incident shows me how desperate he must have been, how much he must have loved her.
And my heart just breaks a little more for him.
Lily Potter was a horrible friend and Severus Snape deserved so so much better.
I have nothing else to say on that topic.

One of the arguments against Snape ( and in favour of the marauders)that bothers me the most is this one:
" The fact that Snape is the only one who despises James while the rest of the cast speak highly of him really tells you about the kind of person James was "
First off, NO
Secondly, ABSOLUTELY NOT
Idk how many of u have actually seen/ experienced bullying, but I always thought it was pretty well known that not all bullies look like ur typically intimidating roadside gangsters. Most bullies, at least the ones I've seen, tend to have a pretty solid relationship with authority figures, even being the ones most trusted/ favoured by them. They're often popular and very well liked by the general masses because they've found confidence in their abilities earlier than most teenagers, and fit into the conventional standards of beauty or being cool.
Now, because they tend to be well accepted by their peers, they make the victim of their tactics to be the oddball, something inherently unlikable coz they're different, while in reality, they're just not there yet (which is why they alone see the worst side of the bullies, they're the only ones who know what it's like to be prey to the bullies' most cruel tendencies.)
This perception of the victim is accepted by the rest of the peers, who are either trying to fit in themselves, or saving themselves from similar treatment, or just happen to believe in this too, because well, why wouldn't it be true if it's coming from the 'IT' group.
In my view this is exactly what happened with Snape and the marauders. Was his ambition to become a death eater and his interest in the dark arts a reason for the bullying? Yes, we have canonical evidence for it. Was that the only reason for the bullying? Absolutely not, we have canonical evidence for that too.
And besides, making such claims is literally gaslighting the victim, aka Snape. This is another thing which typically happens, PPL go 'oh it's no big deal, it's just a joke!' while only the victim knows the true depth of their pain, and the fact that entertainment gained from their humiliation certainly wasn't very funny for them.
Now, i wanna make something pretty clear. I wholeheartedly despise Severus Snape as a character. However, that does not mean that i ll ignore or downplay his trauma to uplift my favs( yes i do love the marauders and Sirius happens to be my fav character in the entire series). I sincerely hope that anyone spewing this argument is just trying to justify their liking for their fav fictional characters, and doesn't hold this opinion on bullying in general.

“Nothing sexier than a man that can cook, huh James?” Marlene teases. James doesn’t take his eyes off Regulus, just grunts in acknowledgement and tracks the movement of his boyfriend’s arms over the barbecue with his eyes, practically drooling. Barty doesn’t think he even heard her.
“Mushroom with blue cheese for the vegetarians!” Regulus calls over his shoulder, Dorcas stands up to accept her dish but James stays sitting.
“That’s you, buddy. I know he’s probably unbearably hot to you right now but you’re going to have to keep it together,” Barty grins, nudging James in the ribs with his elbow. James just grunts again, slowly makes his way to his feet and over to the barbecue, and accepts the plate from Regulus with the same awe-struck look in his eyes.
”You actually have to sit down to eat that, baby,” Regulus smiles as James remains completely still in front of him, mouth still open. Bless him, he’s making a complete fool of himself. James makes a noise like something has died in his chest, and turns so he can sit at the wooden table on the deck next to an extremely amused Dorcas.
