It is anything but a quiet day in the Cook County State's Attorney's office....
TW - mention of blood
The box sat on his desk when he got to the office.  It was a four inch cube wrapped in plain black paper.  The writing on the box was neat and in the same fine-tip black Sharpie that the others like it had been.  No one had seen anyone come in.  The video cameras surveilling the office had not detected anyone coming in before the first staff of the State’s Attorney’s Office had started coming in at the normal time.   So, when the clerk had come into State’s Attorney Colin Masterson’s office and found the box, she immediately went to find him and an officer.
As he walked from the front door of the outer office to his private one, the looks on the faces of everyone else told him that it had gotten around that another one had arrived.  This was number three.  The first two had caused even more of a stir since there was no precautions when opening them.  Now they knew what to expect, and the butcher wasn't even trying to hide the contents this time; blood smeared on the outside of the wrappings of the box, only visible on one side though.
"Have the police been called?" Colin looked over to one of the junior attorney’s that had gathered outside of his office. A nod was the only response he was given; the other man was looking quite nauseous. Colin couldn't blame him, he wasn't feeling so well himself. Although he did not know precisely what the box contained, he had a good idea of the general idea.
A pair of nitrile gloves were pulled from the top drawer of the filing cabinet sitting against the outside wall of his office.  Once they were on, he entered and pulled out his scissors from the top center desk drawer to cut the tied twine holding the box and wrappings closed.  It was like whomever had left it for him was leaving a nice present, a thought that made Colin grind his teeth. His eyes closed for a moment and he took a deep breath through his nose.
The sound of the scissors cutting the cord seemed to echo about his small office and was louder than it should have been. It was his nerves, he knew that.  How many times had he stood in front of judges and juries and not felt this tightly wound?  The slight tremor in his hand when he sat the scissors aside was evidence that this was getting to him in a way that no case ever had. Slowly he peeled off the paper then opened the lid of the box, and closed it just as fast. Bile rising up in his throat as he fought the urge to vomit.  Not in the office, not to contaminate evidence.
"EVERYONE OUT! Get Detective Karsten Kase's ass down here NOW!" Colin roared as he stepped back from his desk and pealed off the gloves as fast as he could. Once he was back out in the main office, gloves discarded and hands thoroughly disinfected, they scrubbed his face as he still fought not to lose control completely and fall apart. His fault, this was all his fault…

Boycott Israeli Dates this Ramadan, from Call 2 Action Now, 28/Feb/2024: (caption under images)
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
This Ramadan, don’t break your fast with an Israeli date. Stand in solidarity with the Palestinian people.
Israel’s genocidal assault on Palestinians in the Gaza Strip has now killed tens of thousands. Palestinians, facing down Israel’s catastrophic violence, call on us to boycott Israeli products in solidarity with their struggle for freedom.
Follow this quick guide to boycotting Israeli dates:
• Always check the label when buying dates. Don’t buy dates that are produced or packaged in Israel or its West Bank settlements. If no country of origin can be found on the box, check the retailer’s website.
• One of Israel’s largest exporters is called Hadiklaim. It sells dates in supermarkets under these names: King Solomon, Jordan River and Jordan River Bio-Top, as well as under the labels of supermarket chains. Check the box carefully, if the dates were “exported by Hadiklaim” – don’t buy them.
• Avoid these companies: Mehadrin, MTex, Edom, Carmel Agrexco, and Arava
#checkthelabel is not enough. Israel has been caught labelling their dates as ‘produce of Palestine’. Tesco, Sainsbury’s, Waitrose, M&S, Morrison, Aldi, Lidl and Asda package Israeli dates under their own labels!
Buy dates from Zaytoun, Alard, Yaffa, and Holy Land Date all support Palestinian Farmers. If you cannot get hold of these brands then buy dates from Tunisia, Saudi Arabia, Iran, Pakistan, UAE and Algeria.
