【Chapter 1】
Victor: I advise you to think this through.
Donning a calm gaze, I walk leisurely through the cluster of bushes to Victor, enduring my laughter as I glance at his hands that are restrained behind his back.
MC: I was simply waving my hand just now. How did CEO Victor accidentally “fall into the trap”?
MC: And I have thought this through~ I’m just playing the game. Weren’t you the one who told me to blow off the steam as much as I like?
I gently caress his cheek, and my smile grows even brighter under his intense scrutinizing gaze.
After several months of continuous overtime work, my entire soul was consumed by a desire for vindictive entertainment.
As a way to relax, I found a new type of role-playing game that involves engaging in confrontations with other players. Over the course of three days, the players are to be divided into factions and compete for points by fighting for props inside a manor––
And naturally, Victor was dragged into it by me.
We teamed up with several college couples to form a group of eight. Each couple split up and joined one of the two teams, which meant that I ended up on the “opposing side” of Victor.
MC: Where did you hide your metal name tag? The rules state that you must carry it with you at all times.
Victor: I threw it away.
I narrow my eyes as I look up at him, while my hands don’t stop their motion of feeling around his chest and arms.
MC: Aw, it wouldn’t be fun if you were to do that.
Victor: I suggest you unlock the lock behind me right now.
MC: Well, I suggest you don’t make that suggestion~
Not satisfied with just this, I lift myself on my toes and softly peck on his slightly pursed lips.
MC: I’ll release you when I’ve found it.
Although Victor isn’t very keen on this game, I still concentrate on not missing any corners to prevent him from playing any tricks.
I slow down my movements and half-cling to him, feeling his blazing body temperature and the growing tension of his muscles slowly seeping through the thin fabric.
Shirt pockets, jacket’s inner pockets, back collar… I search through every corner of his upper body and still find nothing.
However, I hesitate for only a second before guiding my hand downward.
Victor: MC.
Victor: How much longer do you want to keep playing?
I deliberately ignore that increasingly intense stare and, with a completely innocent expression, reach out behind him with my hand––
My fingertips slide into the pocket of his suit pants, and I immediately feel a metallic touch wrapped in the warmth inside.
MC: Wouldn’t it have been better if you had told me just then?
Smiling, I withdraw my hand and look at the metal plate with the name “Victor” engraved on it. I then take out my game phone and scan the QR code on its backside––
“Player “MC” has gained 20 points, and Player “Victor” has lost his name tag.”
MC: Hehe, thanks for your cooperation.
I complacently pin his name tag to my chest and pantomime fixing the bangs falling in front of his eyes.
Victor: You wanna win that badly?
MC: When an opportunity presents itself, of course one should seize it.
MC: I joined forces with my teammates to deal with you specially. And as I thought, it was easily done.
This small victory causes me to feel a little smug and elated, but Victor suddenly breaks into laughter.
Victor: [chuckles softly] I didn’t think I’d be so easy to deal with in your eyes.
MC: You can’t say that. I know that Vic gēge(*) is going easy on me. After all, you’ve never been interested in this kind of activity.
MC: It just so happens that this manor is perfect for a vacation. As Pudding’s dad, you should take this opportunity for a good break, “Pudding Senior.”
—
[Tidbits]: (*) as you might’ve already guessed, yes, MC calls him “泽言哥哥” (ZéYán gēge) here, the name MC used to call him when they were kids. For those unaware, when a Chinese girl addresses a boy as gēge (an intimate term of address), if not used to address her own older brother, she’d use it to address her boyfriend~ and the reason it got both Victor and MC flustered the first time they reminisced in Preference SP~ (//∇//)
You can refer to this post for more details: ♡♡
—
As I say this, I gently run my fingertips over his chin, then check the time again before turning around and preparing to leave.
MC: The mechanism will automatically unfasten you after two minutes. See you later, CEO Victor!
Victor: Do you know why this game has a fixed time every day?
I’m stunned momentarily, then turn around to look at him.
Victor is shrouded in the shade beneath the tree, lifting his chin slightly. Both his hands are clearly bound behind his back, but he seems to be relaxed, as if he is merely in a dormant state.
MC: Because it’s exhausting to be on high alert all the time, right? We’re all here to have fun, so we shouldn’t put the cart before the horse.
Victor: And do you know…
Victor: What’s the reason behind this game’s three-day duration?

【Chapter 2】
[Fair Warning in advance]: From here onwards, Victor blushes PRACTICALLY THROUGHOUT THE ENTIRE DATE. As tempted as I am, it’s not possible to include over 60+ blushing sprites, so I’m just giving y'all a heads up LMAO~ \(//∇//)\
──────────────────
With only a two-minute window to escape, I naturally don’t waste that time engaging in confrontation with Victor.
I know precisely what the three-day duration is for–– as long as the game is not over, there will still be possibilities to fight to retrieve our possessions.
MC: [to herself] This man doesn’t take the game that seriously anyway. If I go and stay with him after 5 pm, it should be alright…
As I calculate in my mind, I run towards the meeting point previously agreed on with my team. But before I can spot anyone, I’m dumbfounded by a string of notifications on my phone.
MC: How come both of you lost your name tags?
Qian Er: …my boyfriend! This scumbag! He duped me!
Lei Zi: My wife also totally f*cked me over…
–
[Tidbits]: He is addressing his girlfriend as “my wife” btw haha~
–
At this moment, I finally understand why the game organizers separated the couples…
MC: It’s okay. I’ve got the name tag. Our next step is to reclaim the ones we lost. And for that, everyone needs to work together as much as possible.
Xiao Xin: However, although the game time is from 9 am to 5pm, there is still a possibility of being “converted to rebel” during the break time…
Another boy in the team speaks up in concern.
Xiao Xin: I propose that for these three days, we all should refrain from meeting our partners in private. Otherwise, we will have to watch out not only for the opposite side but also for our own people.
Lei Zi: You’re right. I think if my wife tries to “convert me to rebel,” I’ll easily fall for it.
Qian Er: I’m all for it! The lovey-dovey brain must leave Loveland City!
Xiao Xin & Lei Zi & Qian Er: For victory!
MC: …
Are college students all so competitive these days!
As the three youngsters shift their gazes at me, I feel an invisible pressure coming over me. I blink and immediately raise my hands.
MC: …no problem.
—
In order to firmly adhere to the philosophy of victory, our team members remain together throughout the entire dinner time after the first day of the game.
Victor shoots a faint glance in my direction from afar. And I, encircled by several of my teammates, have no choice but to put my palms together in apology to him.
—
I’ve been unable to find a single opportunity to talk with him all night. After returning to the room, I fiddle with the phone specifically designed for the game.
MC: …I should be able to make calls with this thing, right?
But who knew there would be a knock at the door before I could even look into Victor’s contact number?
Subconsciously thinking it’s the girl from my team with whom I made plans to meet in the evening, I casually open the door without so much as a second thought.
To my surprise, I see Victor’s face instantly appearing in my line of sight. We hold each other’s gaze for a few seconds, and at this moment, the air seems to be stagnant.
The next second, my heart suddenly skips a beat. After nervously scanning the surroundings, I immediately pull him into the room and close the door.
MC: Why are you here?
Victor: Why am I here?
He repeats my words unhurriedly, crossing his arms across his chest.
MC: …hehe, let me explain.
I briefly recap to him our team’s strategy for winning.
MC: Everyone was so serious at the time, so I couldn’t say no.
Victor: I can see that your enthusiasm is no less than that of those college students.
Victor: [sounds so wronged] In order to implement your strategy, it seems like it’d be more appropriate for me to leave so as not to affect your leading-by-example image.
With a smile, I hastily wrap my arms around his neck, leaning in to peck him on the lips.
MC: Don’t leave, don’t leave! You and I came out here to have fun together. And I certainly am very clear on who is more important to me.
MC: I was thinking about calling you just now!
Victor: Really?
Victor’s expression remains unchanged as he snakes one hand around the back of my waist.
Victor: I don’t see any signs of that.
MC: Then you aren’t looking closely enough. Examine more carefully.
Beneath the dim yellowish light, the magnified shadows on the wall merge seamlessly, not leaving the slightest gap between each other.
As my fingertips dig into the back of his shirt collar, I simultaneously take the initiative to meet his slightly pursed, thin lips, softly pecking them twice.
Victor: [blushing + sexy whisper] This little sweetness is not enough.
His voice follows the rhythm of our exchanged breaths and enters my mind, causing everything to slow down and amplify every subtle touch.
MC: Wait, my teammate will be here soon. We can’t let her catch…
A kiss forcefully cuts me off, swallowing up all the unfinished words.
The hot and moist tips of our tongues intertwine with each other. He brands a rough, grainy sensation between my sensitive lips and teeth, bringing a hint of punishment.
I instinctively tilt my head back slightly, wallowing in the haze of this dimness.
In the scorching and stuffy world, there seems to be something gently coming through.
Qian Er: …sis, it’s me, Qian Er. Are you there?
The sound of knocking on the door rings out. I hear Qian Er’s voice, who was originally supposed to come looking for me, coming from outside.
My whole body shudders in surprise. Amidst the powerful predation, I suddenly regain some of my sanity.
MC: [blushing] Victor… she is here.
Victor: [blushing + raspy whisper] I heard it.
His voice is lethally cloying, but his overly scorching lips swim down my cheeks to the tip of my ear, nibbling without the slightest concern.
Victor: [flushed cheeks + slyly hoarse whisper] You need to be careful… we can’t get caught.
He deliberately repeats what I said earlier. But his soft reminder is akin to the coaxing temptation of a devil, accompanied by his heavy breaths that make my world heat up unceasingly.
Qian Er: Are you not there? You wouldn’t happen to have gone to look for...
MC: [blushing + to the girl] …I am here!
With great difficulty, I suppress the gasp that’s on the verge of escaping me. Then I struggle to crane my head and sink my teeth into his neck.
Though the subtle bite marks are not entirely clear, they do elicit a slightly insatiable chuckle from this wicked man before me.
MC: [blushing + to the girl] I was just… taking a shower, so I couldn’t hear you.
Qian Er: Should I come back after you’ve fixed yourself up, then?
The man in front of me slightly arches an eyebrow. And in the next second, he turns even more oblivious as he continues with his bullying. He plants incredibly lingering and gentle kisses, tracing his way up from my collarbones to my neck and upwards.
MC: [blushing + to Victor] You…
Victor: [flushed cheeks + brEaThEs literally into your ear] She said she would come back later.
The arm half-supporting me lifts slightly upwards again, making it even easier for him to lean his head sideways and nibble on my throat.
Qian Er: Sis?
Victor: [flushed cheeks + even raspier, proud tone] You should give her an answer.
My brain has turned into a lump of mush, and I decide to surrender before things escalate any more “out of hand.”
MC: [blushing + to the girl] I’m feeling a bit light-headed from the shower… Sorry, can we talk tomorrow? I’d like to go to bed a little earlier tonight.
I struggle immensely to get to the end of my sentence, and through gritted teeth, I capture a few glimmers of laughter in that pair of dark and silent eyes.
Qian Er: Sis, rest up then~ Good night, sis~
The footsteps outside the door gradually fade away. I clench my molar teeth and firmly grab onto his front collar.
MC: Are you getting back at me for what I did during the day?
Victor: [flushed cheeks + torrid breath] This doesn’t count.
The instigator of this episode blends his words ambiguously into his kisses, with a hint of deep meaning flashing in his eyes.
Victor: [flushed cheeks] Didn’t you just make it clear who is more important to you?
Victor: [flushed cheeks] I merely took your words for it, that’s all.

【Chapter 3】
The next day, I purposely time my arrival at the front yard of the villa to avoid coinciding with Victor’s.
The other members of his team have already set off earlier, leaving only Victor, who is sitting leisurely on the sofa and flipping through a magazine.
Meeting that toneless gaze of his, I blow him a kiss from the back of the group and happily embark on my journey.
—
Today’s game proceeds smoothly beyond expectations. Relying on Lei Zi’s excellent intuition, we’ve actually found all the individuals who were separately ambushing us in different corners of the manor one by one.
“Player “Zhou Lei” gains 20 points, Player “Zhao Xin” gains 20 points…”
Qian Er: That was incredibly easy… but Lei Zi, your girlfriend’s gaze just now looked like she was gonna eat you alive.
Lei Zi: I’ll just kneel on the keyboard when I get home. It’s not a big deal.
Xiao Xin: Still, we shouldn’t let our guards down. After all, they can still snatch back the name tags.
Xiao Xin: There’s no camera in the entire manor. There are way more blind spots than we can possibly imagine…
While Xiao Xin is gesturing with his hands and contemplating the safest hiding spots on the map of the manor, Lei Zi quietly approaches me from the side.
Lei Zi: Sis, I wanna ask you for a favor.
MC: Hm?
Lei Zi: I have a special solo mission that requires the help of someone from the team... Could you help me?
Upon hearing this special invitation, I immediately perk up my ears with excitement.
MC: Sure! What do you need me to do?
—
MC: That’s odd…
I meticulously examine the surrounding area of the fountain pool, but don’t spot anything out of the ordinary.
MC: The spot Lei Zi said should be here…
I circle the place again, but still find nothing.
The water in the fountain continuously flows outward and forms cascading water curtains that carry the spraying water droplets, creating blooming specs of light under the dazzling sunlight.
I gaze quietly for a long time. Unwilling to give up, I crouch down and carefully fumble around the pool’s perimeter once again.
Suddenly, I inadvertently touch a stone, causing it to tilt slightly–– the water from the fountain ceases its flow in the next second, revealing a set of steps leading to a stone staircase at the center of the fountain.
MC: So it turns out that the stone steps were not just for decorative purposes...!
My eyes widen in amazement, and I walk up to the stone pillar at the center of the fountain, reaching out my hand to search for any special props––
“Click.”
As I watch the mechanism appear once again, the smile on my face is wiped off completely. A rubber ring suddenly emerges on the surface of the pillar, trapping my hand in place!
MC: …?!
Before I can react, a powerful force grabs my other wrist and swiftly flips me over, pinning my wrist next to the rubber ring.
“Click.”
All of this happens within a matter of moments. It’s not until both my hands are bound behind my back that I begin to comprehend the situation, staring wide-eyed at the person who is now standing in front of me.
MC: …how did you get here?
Victor: I’ve been here the whole time. You were just too slow to act.
Folding his arms across his chest, he leans down slightly to meet my eye level, looking at me teasingly.
The alarm bells in my head are ringing frantically, and a strange thought suddenly rushes to my mind, causing me to swallow nervously.
MC: Could it be that you...
Victor: Otherwise, how do you think he was able to locate everyone?
Victor: And why were they all on their own?
MC: When did you talk to Lei Zi…?
Victor: [chuckles lightly] That’s not something you need to be concerned about.
He lifts his hand and presses on something unbeknownst to me, causing the pool’s fountain to activate again.
The cascading water curtain gushes outward, creating a hazy veil that envelops us within. Instinctively, I am gripped by a sense of looming danger approaching in silence.
Victor is in complete control of this series of actions. He first made his own teammates separate, then found an opportunity to make a deal with Lei Zi––
–– and tricked me into coming here.
The manor is designed to allow players’ evasion activities, and as a result, there are numerous concealed hiding spots. And Victor knows me all too well to know that I would be intrigued by these interesting features.
He is too patient a hunter, creating the opportunity to win by striking just one blow, biting the throat of his prey in an instant.
MC: Victor, you duped me!
Victor: This extent of action doesn’t really count as duping someone.
Victor: It’s just a fitting way to blow off the steam, is all.
MC: But by doing this... your team will lose.
Victor: I have no interest in winning or losing this game.
He gently lifts his hand, caressing the “Victor” name tag pinned on my chest.
Victor: And besides, I guess you’re forgetting… it’s only the second day.
Victor: Where’s your name tag?
His dry fingertips glide slowly up my breasts, passing over my neck and caressing my cheek.
—
[Notes]: bruh they really just straight went for “前胸” (breasts)— not even caring to use short/refined phrasing like 胸/心口 LMAO 🙏
—
MC: …pinned it inside the left pant leg.
Victor: [!! elated chuckle] There’s no need to be so honest.
Victor: It’d be hard to find us here, so we still have plenty of time.
The powerful fingertips lift my chin slightly, causing the falling droplets of water to be sprinkled finely, only to have this cold sensation be melted away by the extremely intimate proximity of his breath.
He rubs his lips against mine slowly and deliberately, neither delving too deeply nor drawing back too far.
The unbearable touch feels as if my entire body is being lifted into the air. The damp mist of the water stream spreads around us, bringing our closely pressed skin even closer together.
Water droplets drip down his gently fluttering eyelashes onto my upper lip, then roll along the folds of our lips as they caress against each other, finally entering our intertwined lips and teeth.
MC: …getting back at me… you’re so petty! Evil capitalist…!
Victor has done a full circle and repeated every detail of what I did to him yesterday.
Victor: [flushed cheeks + raspiest of whispers x1] Naturally, the capitalist has to pay back twice the amount.
Victor: [flushed cheeks + x2] Also, there’s only one cat at home, and that’s Pudding.
—
[Notes]: LMFAAOOO THIS MAN!!! For those who didn’t get it– at the beginning of the date, MC addressed Victor as “Pudding’s Dad, Pudding Senior,” suggesting that he is her big clingy cat, which he 110% is LOL. But he “begs to differ” ‘cause as he showed just now, feline it may be, but he is still the beast “Lion” 😩🤣
—
His muffled words are intertwined with my heavy panting, reminiscent of a predatory beast patiently teasing its prey that it has captured.
In the long time that we’ve been together, I’ve become too accustomed to him, and in his tacit acquiescence, I would brazenly play with his “belly” without any reservations.
But he’s never been an indolent kitty.
MC: Y-you propose a term… let’s talk.
Victor: [flushed cheeks + the most seductively provocative of whispers] What capital do you have to negotiate terms with me?
The teasing I capture in his eyes itches me so much that I can’t resist biting him. But this only causes the smile in his eyes to brew even deeper in response.
MC: Just- you- wait.
Victor: [flushed cheeks + chuckles] That vigor is good.
He finally draws a few steps back, then crouches down and finds my name tag with ease.
Victor scans the QR code and affixes the “MC” engraved name tag to his chest majestically. He then turns around after switching off the fountain, preparing to leave.
MC: Why don’t you take your name tag too?
Victor: I’m just leaving an excuse.
Stepping on the stairs, he haughtily turns his head sideways.
Victor: [chuckles softly] So you won’t be too bored tomorrow.
—
Victor and I, in a sense, have returned to our starting line again.
Although we don’t sit together at dinner, we both wear each other’s name tags on our chests, creating an indescribable romantic tension.
Lei Zi doesn’t dare to make eye contact with me all evening, and I don’t wish to haggle with him, either.
—
On the third day, it becomes obvious that the other side has received Victor’s instructions and has grown more structured in their approach.
As the dominant side, our countermeasure is for everyone else to stay hidden till the last moment, while I––
I keep my eyes locked on Victor from afar across the dense bushes, provocatively maintaining a distance of about ten meters from him at all times.
—
Following several pulling and tugging, I manage to hide in a flower house, intending to catch my breath.
However, the next second, there is a rustling sound outside the window. I hear the person with a steady stride approaching, treading on the broken leaves.
Victor: Think you’ve chosen a good spot?
Beneath the hot sunlight, a few flower petals float down from between Victor’s fingers. He grips the railing of the flower window with one hand, while his fingertips insert themselves into the flower’s pistil.
—
[Tidbits]: The female organs of a flower are collectively called “花蕊”/ pistil, comprising of stigma, style and ovary. (!!! yeah reference to that innuendo of “the rose and the white thingie” in the PV)~ 💦🙏
—
His piercing gaze is even more intense than the sunlight, locking straight onto me. Even though clearly we are physically apart from each other, his imposing presence is still palpable.
His slender forearm may have been scratched by the thorns of the bushes, leaving a few glaring blood marks. But Victor remains unfazed, as if it were merely a minor price to be paid in the process.
MC: CEO Victor, aren’t you asking a question you already know the answer to?
This is too foul an approach to entice someone in this way to have them walk right into your trap.
MC: After all, you didn’t want me to run away again, did you?
—
[Tidbits]: MC switches to “您” here, which is the courteous term for “you” in Chinese, amplifying her bitterness LMAO~
—
Victor: The door is right there. You can leave if you want.
He raises his eyebrows, revealing all his bright schemes with unparalleled frankness.
MC: Will that cause too much loss for CEO Victor?
Victor: Unexpected opportunities like this always provide a chance to encounter the next one.
Victor: As long as you consider the aftermath, it’ll be fine.
—
•─────⋅◍♡◍⋅─────•
—
【Chapter 4】
Deflating my mouth, I tie the gauze on Victor’s arm into a knot, then look around the flower room without making it obvious. Finally, I shift my eyes again to my other party’s cool and collected face.
MC: You sign documents worth tens of billions with this hand. You need to be more careful.
–
[Tidbits]:MC uses “您” (the courteous term for “you”), here too LMAO~
–
MC: Ugh, my plan has been ruined. I wonder if a certain Mr. CEO would be as kind-hearted as me?
Victor: Your little thoughts are almost all written on your forehead.
Victor: Your plan is simply to have those college students hide while you stall for time, and then launch a surprise attack when the countdown is almost over.
MC: Since you were already aware of this, why did you still chase after me?
Victor: [delighted laugh] Because your ruses are enough to make me look forward to them.
An undisguised arrogance climbs up the corners of his lips, and he unhurriedly pulls back the rolled-up sleeve to his wrist. The light in his dark-colored pupils reflects my figure.
This arrogant stance arouses my fighting spirit completely. I compose myself and pantomime leaning toward him.
MC: I never thought CEO Victor would have such a wicked side to him. Shouldn’t it be the prey who is to bite in the first place?
Victor: Whether it’s done at the beginning or end makes no difference. Hunting has always been meant to be a deadly struggle between two opponents on equal footing.
Victor: In the face of a predetermined outcome, the process only enriches the ending.
His fingertips twirl themselves around the ends of my hair, making a circular motion in the air.
I gaze at him for a long time. Then propping myself up, I place my hands on both sides of his head, lowering my eyes to him.
MC: Have you ever considered that doing this would expose you to the risk of me biting your throat?
Victor: I never turn down any challenge.
Victor: Especially when it’s from you.
MC: Is that right?
I lower my head to his neck and, without the slightest hesitation, open my mouth and gently nibble on his prominent Adam’s apple.
He seems to have not anticipated that I’d be so decisive, causing his entire body to quiver instinctively.
I crinkle my eyes and silently concentrate on deepening the mark.
By the time I lift my head, the teeth marks are clearly imprinted on his Adam’s apple, shimmering with a light sheen of moisture.
MC: How does it feel to have someone bite your throat?
The answer I receive is a fiercely wild kiss.
Victor’s hand suddenly presses down, causing me to be caught off guard and collide with his teeth.
All the unspoken words between us are shattered into fragments in the entangled exploration. The rapid breaths entwined with the moist sound of water flood my entire sensory world.
My scorching breaths are constantly being swallowed up by his kisses. But I don’t simply want to sink into this passively. Instead, I stubbornly entangle myself back.
Whether it’s a conspiracy or a bright scheme, when faced with absolute power, you must show your strength.
The palm clasped around the back of my neck continues to exert force, allowing the predator to unceasingly penetrate deeper unchallenged. At the same time, I also step on his thigh and move up a little bit, causing him to release a hot and muffled moan.
My fingertips advance on his chest, and in the corner of my eye, I catch a glimpse of the phone that has been tossed aside.
14:59.
I kiss him even harder, counting down in my mind––
And just before the number is about to change, I suddenly yank off the name tag on his chest and hold it up over my head.
MC: I’ve won.
—
MC: You cheated!!
Victor: I thought you were very happy and willing to receive my flowers at the party.
MC: This was our team’s reward for victory. And, of course, I would accept the bouquet CEO Victor wrapped for me as the loser.
MC: Besides, this is an entirely different matter––
Even when we return to the hotel after the event dinner, I still can’t stop stomping my feet.
MC: I watched the digits jump to 59 at once. Even if I were to say that I counted faster, it still couldn’t be more than ten seconds.
MC: You must have paused the time!
Victor: Don’t blame other people as an excuse for your miscalculating the time.
Looking at his composed demeanor, I narrow my eyes and follow him into the elevator.
—
Suddenly, a thought occurs to me, and I press my lips together slyly.
MC: CEO Victor, could it be that you paused the time unconsciously and now feel embarrassed about it?
While speaking, I lean over and peck him on the lips.
As the elevator ascends, the dots of light that shine through the window swirl incessantly in Victor’s eyes. He lowers his gaze and doesn’t say anything.
MC: Still haven’t paused, eh.
Pressing my lips against his warm ones, I kiss him again.
MC: Still no pause.
MC: It seems that it wasn’t unintentional, but rather deliberate––
Victor: [flushed cheeks] You haven’t fully reconstructed the scene in the flower house. So, this doesn’t count.
The patter of rain begins to trickle down outside the window, coating the light and shadow cast on our bodies with a hazy veil. Even our mingled breaths are imbued with the hint of dampness in the air.
MC: Humph, you capitalist! You really never lose out.
Without saying anything more, I lean against the railing and pull hard on his tie knot, yanking it off directly.
Our lips and teeth tightly press against each other as our tongues dance together. I tirelessly explore his territory, leaving my mark on every crevice and corner of it.
The delicate string, as thin as the fine rain, glues our lips together as we slowly separate, panting rapidly for breaths.
The raindrops hitting the glass are reminiscent of blooming flowers, and the world has been rendered silent.
Victor: [flushed cheeks + !!?? lethally raspy, prolonged whisper pouring into your ears] Do you think I did it unintentionally or deliberately now?
His raspy voice sounds amid the suspended light and shadow, a small cloying smile hanging at the corners of his lips.
MC: It doesn’t matter to me. Regardless of whether it’s intentional or unintentional, it shows that you seem to be working hard in my hunting ground too.
I curl the corners of my lips into a complacent smile, satisfied and ready to open the distance between us––
However, before I can, the palm covering my waist firmly holds me in place and swiftly lifts me up, pressing me directly against the railing of the elevator in a flash.
–
A sudden sensation of coldness crawls up my spine, catching me off guard. To find balance, I instinctively arch my waist and cling onto him with both my hands and feet, crashing into his burning hot breath right in front of me.
I frantically search for a point of strength on Victor’s body and grab onto his coat in a tangled mess. A soft chuckle sounds in my ear, and in the next second, the space in front of me becomes even narrower.
And Victor advances another step further toward me, hemming me in completely into the confined space.
Victor: [!!?? lethally raspy, prolonged whisper pouring into your ears but 3.0] Then let me see your hard work too.
“Susurrus——”
—
[Tidbits]: !!! the term is simply “簌—” here (suggesting a rustling noise), and now look at the long ribbon of her dress that has been untied––
—
MC: [blushing] I-I, what else do I need to do? You put me down first…
Victor: [-- 5.0] I see you’ve been very bold these few days, and now you know to be scared?
The bouquet in my hand becomes heavier and heavier, while my high heels are struggling and on the verge of slipping off my toes.
Victor: [soft chuckle + !!?? 7.0 but more dangerous tone like the hunter has you right where and how he wanted] Don’t drop my flowers.
His approaching breath is like bait. As I’m trying to escape in a panic, a warm palm has already covered my thigh, pinning me firmly in place.
The sound of clothes rustling is exceptionally clear at this moment. Gentle kisses spread along my neck all the way to the tips of my ears, and together with his scorching breaths and touches, they surge into my consciousness.
The overly steady elevator quietly erases the traces of time. However, the numbers that change from time to time become the only indicator announcing the flow of time.
“Ding——”
MC: [blushing] Victor, it’s…!
The remainder of my words are crushed between our lips and teeth, and my eyes can’t help but widen. Just as I feel my heart is about to give out, he completely usurps me of the entirety of my sanity——
The elevator door opens, but there is no one outside.
Victor: This is a VIP elevator, and we are the only ones on the top floor.
Victor: Of course, there’s no need to worry about surveillance issues either.
MC: [blushing] You’re such a…
The only response to me is a quiet chuckle. And in the next second, I’m suddenly lifted up and carried outside the elevator.
—
He holds me up skillfully with one hand, not using too much force, yet using just enough to not allow me to drop back on the floor.
MC: [blushing] Put me down!
Victor: Only you would let go of your grip after biting the other party’s throat.
He lifts his foot and steps onto the thick and soft carpet, walking extremely slowly. Each step he takes causes me to descend slightly, and my entire body is practically hanging onto his.
My thighs, which are wrapped around his waist, gradually begin to weaken. But those searing hands of his remain pressed against me.
Victor: Stay focused.
The unbearable rubbing is continuously wearing away at my willpower, and his hoarse voice sounds as if he is patiently enduring a certain emotion.
MC: Next time... I will definitely not let you go.
Victor: You don’t need to wait for the next time.
Victor: I’ll give you this opportunity tonight.
Along with the sound of the door opening, the somewhat dazzling light causes me to subconsciously squint my eyes. In my dazed state, I find myself sinking into a softness.
Victor: [!!??!! INTENSE BREATHING + SIR SLOW DOWN!! WHAT IS THAT NOOISEEE] We can continue our game for a very long time now.

Ark Paarchero, 2820.
“We’re in, Kallo,” Ryder said as Liam, the last of the team through, began securing the maintenance airlock hatch behind them. “Let us know if the Verakan does anything weird.” “Like firing those big guns,” said Liam. “I think you would know before we would,” said Kallo. Once the hatch was shut, the airlock started depressurization. The group crowded inside—Ryder, Jaal, Drack, Peebee, Liam, and Vetra—were crammed shoulder to shoulder. The fit was tight enough that Ryder’s chest rose and fell with a bit of a struggle. She double checked the oxygen levels in her armor: normal. So, just a touch of claustrophobia caused by one bulky krogan taking up a full third of the airlock, a tall turian taking up another quarter, a broad-shouldered human male, an even more broad-shouldered angaran male, an average-sized human female, and the thankfully small Peebee. Vetra was the first to comment. “We’d be doing this in two groups if Peebee wasn’t a—what does Sara call you?—a peanut for an asari.” “Being pint-sized has its advantages,” Peebee said, grinning as she peeked out the airlock’s inner hatch window into the vestibule beyond. “But don’t forget flexibility. We could probably fit the other two in here in a pinch. Keep an open mind. Wanna know what I heard? The—”

Do you have a shorted version of your DNI and blog rules because I'm fucking stupid and can't read all that. So sorry if there was a shortened version and I didn't see it :(
Pardon, but I don’t shorten my DNI, what’s on there is on there. But I can try to summarize it/put it in an easier to read format.
Do Not Interact if you are any of the following:
-If your primary blog/the blog you interact from is nsfw/kink related -A racist of any kind -Anti-Palestine -Bigoted against certain religions -Queerphobic in some way/exclude any part of the LGBTQIA+ acronym -Against neopronouns and/or xenogenders -Against “contradictory labels” (mspec-mono identities, lesboys, etc) -MAP/zoo/supporter of acting on any harmful paras -Against non-harmful paras (objectum, etc) -Pro/com/dark ship or a supporter of those things -If you police/bash non-abusive ships or try to label people as pro/com/dark shippers when they aren’t -Pro-harassment, that shit is unproductive and doesn’t help. -Ableist -Against educated self-diagnosis -Stigmatize Cluster-B disorders (NPD, BPD, ASPD, etc) or any disorder for that matter -Against otherkin/fictionkin/therains/any other alterhuman identity -If you’re against and/or sexualize age/pet/animal regressor/dreamers -Fakeclaimer of any kind -If you’re outwardly and vocally against all endogenic systems (you can have your opinions but keep them to yourself, this is a safe environment and fakeclaiming is NOT tolerated. I WILL fight you.) -If you deny or invalidate anyone’s good-faith identity in any other way
Basically: be appropriate, don’t be a bigot, don’t support abuse, don’t be a dick, that’s it. I hope this was more succinct. If you have any questions or need any definitions, feel free to ask.
As for my blog rules/pinned I’ll try to sum up the more important things here:
Ask permission to use my art.
Do not put my characters in tournaments/polls, especially without my consent. (And no, I don’t participate in nor host art competitions, they make me uncomfortable.)
No inappropriate comments towards myself or others on my blog will be tolerated, there’s a difference between joking and being creepy.
If I upset you/I fucked up, please let me know since I can guarantee it’s not on purpose. I can’t promise a response if you just send something in on anon, but if you send me a DM or something I’ll do my best to talk if you’re willing to converse. I make a lot of mistakes and I wanna know about it so I don’t make them as much, I am bad at self-awareness and have a lot of issues.
That being said, please be patient and understanding with me. I’m trying and I am not in the best situation yet, but I’m growing. Aggression only causes a shutdown so please try to be careful, I have a lot of BPD symptoms (not certain if I actually have it yet but I’m looking into it) and struggle with confrontation and abandonment.
While this is an art blog it is also a personal one, and I do vent. It is usually tagged and under a “read more” though.
I consume media critically and I assume that most others do the same.
Be nice about my favorite ships please, they’re also mostly queerplatonic because I’m arospec.
If I ship something then that means I have reason to believe that it is not pro/com/ship, at least not immediately or inherently. It’s dumb I even have to say this, but apparently I do.
That’s basically it. I know this was still kinda long, but I hope it was abridged enough for it to be easier for you to understand, like I said follow up with any additional questions you have if you need to.

Hi! So from the prompt list, could you do the 44th dialogue prompt where reader and roommate!Bucky are talking and bucky just keeps falling in love with her more and more but reader is oblivious to his flirting bc she doesn't think anybody wants her and while they are talking and bonding one evening they fall into the category of relationships as the topic of the conversation (sorry if it doesn't make sense, english isn't my first language)
Bad Night
Summary: After a bad date, Bucky offers his help.
Warnings: Some angst, lil fluffy, pretty cheesy, mentions of sex,
AU: Roommate!Bucky x reader
AN: After 3 days I'm finally letting this go. Not very sure how this got so long, but part of me wants to make a part 2 if that would interest anyone.
Prompt from this list. Requests are always open, reblogs and feedback are appreciated.
MASTERLIST
"Hey, dollface, can you look at something for me?" You heard Bucky call, his footsteps getting closer to your room. "If it has to do with your testicles, then no. I will not."
He stopped in your doorway, eyes wide as he looked you over. "Oh, wow. Where you going? Got a hot date you didn't tell me about?" He teased, walking further into the room.
"Yeah, hopefully this one actually goes decent. Now what do you need?"
He turned so his back was to you and pulled his shirt off. "This place on my scar is all itchy. Does it look irritated?"
Until that day you had came home early from work to Bucky standing in the kitchen shirtless. He had expected you to immediately look at the cluster of scar tissue on his shoulder and never see him the same. Instead, you had just greeted him like any other day; a warm smile that made his heart melt before blabbering about your day and asking him about his.
This hadn't been the first time he'd asked for you to inspect a spot on his jagged scar. Although for the first month he'd make it a point to cover it, not wanting to freak you out.
That's when he got more comfortable, walking around without a shirt or just in a towel after a shower. When your smile started making his heart melt even more than before.
You touched your fingers to a small red blotch on the spot where dark metal met skin and he shivered slightly, goosebumps forming on his skin. "Yeah, it is a little. Try putting lotion on it."
He sighed and turned to face you, looking down at your dress. "Who is this guy? Do I know him?" He said cocking an eyebrow at you. "I tried that stupid dating app you suggested." You exhaled, shrugging your shoulders.
Narrowing his eyes at you, he shook his head. "You're not going." He said folding his arms across his chest. You raised your eyebrows and copied his actions. "And whys that?"
"Because, I should've never told you to try it. Dating apps are full of weird people." He muttered, going over to your dresser. "Murderers, stalkers, creepy cat people."
He opened the drawer and pulled out some clothes to stuff into your hands. "Which is why, you're staying in with me." He smiled, sparkling white teeth flashing at you.
Rolling your eyes you put the clothes back in their spots. "If I don't go on a decent date for once, I'm going to end up a creepy cat person. Besides, not all cat people are creepy. Mrs. Lawrey is really nice."
"She's an exception." He nodded, following you towards your bedroom door and down the hall. "If it makes you feel better, I'll text you if he starts acting creepy."
He huffed a breath and grabbed your shoulders, spinning you around to look at him. "Fine, but, that means I get to come rescue my girl if he does."
You felt a slight blush creep your neck and moved away from him to slip your shoes on. "You're just saying that, because I pay half of the bills." You said, opening the front door.
"And you cook pretty good. Now, go on. Be safe." He teased, swatting at your backside as you walked out into the hallway. "Try not to break anything, please." You told him on your way down the hallway.
"Not making a promise I might break."
_____
The date had went horrible, one slip up and he said a few choice words to you before calling a cab to leave.
You swiped your fingertips under your eyes to erase any sign of crying before you got to your front door, wanting to avoid Bucky at all costs.
"Hey, dollface. Back already?" He said from the living room. "Yeah..." You mumbled back, trying to make a break for your bedroom to change.
Bucky could tell something was wrong by how you weren't rambling about everything that happened. "Oh, no you don't. Get back in here."
You exhaled and turned back around to look at him. "What, James?" You sighed, walking closer to where he was sat in a recliner. "What'd he do?" He said, narrowing his eyes at you. "Nothing, I'm fine."
"You're crying, I wanna know why. What'd he do?" You rolled your eyes at his stern voice and shook your head. "Just didn't go very well." You said, sucking in a deep breath.
They never did. As soon as you let one little fact slip, they'd high tail. You would've been better off staying home like Bucky had suggested.
Bucky's voice broke you from your self pity. "C'mere." His hand reached out to grab your wrist and tug you closer. "I'm not sitting on your lap, that's weird."
He scrunched his nose up and shook his head. "Doesn't have to be. Stop being a brat and let me comfort you."
Once you were sat on his right thigh with your side against him, he wrapped his arms around you and leaned his head back against the chair. "This should be our new bonding method. Feels like we're getting closer by the second."
You teetered your head back and forth, pressing your lips into a thin line. "Maybe because, I'm on your lap. That's pretty close."
A soft pat to your thigh and he was looking directly at you, blue eyes dancing back and forth in curiosity.
He wanted to know what made you so sad and torn up about one stupid date. "Tell me about it?"
You took another deep breath and he lifted his head so you could slip your arm behind his neck. "Every single time I go on a date, they mention sex. As soon as I tell them I'm a virgin they're gone. Tonight's was just extra rude about it."
His eyebrows creased together, hand moving to your knee. "You're a virgin? How?"
You looked at the ceiling, tapping a finger to your chin as if you were thinking. "Hm, could be from never having sex." You said the most obvious answer.
"No, I mean-" he huffed a laugh and gestured a hand over you. "Look at you."
You pinched his side and he narrowed his eyes at you. "I thought we told each other everything?" He mumbled, his lips turning down into a frown.
"No, James. You tell me everything. I don't tell you near as much." You said patting his chest, the chain of his dog tags cool on your palm. "You don't have to, I know a lot just by paying attention." He said, giving a nonchalant shrug.
"Now, explain, miss goody-two-shoes. Why hasn't anyone popped your cherry?"
You looked to your lap and pursed your lips. "When I was younger I never felt the need to lose it. Now, I can't seem to find a guy who doesn't want to have sex on the first date. I'm not losing it to someone I barely know."
When Bucky stayed silent you looked at him, he was chewing on the inside of his cheek and you could see the gears turning as he looked at you.
He wanted to offer his help, but didn't want to scare you away. That was the whole reason he hadn't said how he felt over the past couple of months.
Although, he wasn't sure how you never noticed. How you hadn't noticed the lingering touches and looks, everything he'd say.
You had waved it off as mindless flirting because that's how he played it off; as him being a flirt without any serious intentions.
"You're being quiet and it's weird. Say something." You said flicking the tip of his nose. "I'll do it. If you wanna lose it, I'll do it. I know a lot about you."
"Buck-" you shook your head, trying to wrap your head around what he was saying. "You can't be serious." You said breathing a soft laugh.
He nodded and his hand on your knee moved to the back of your thigh.
You felt heat rush to your cheeks as you looked at him, his strong features completely serious. "I'm gonna go to bed. Its late."
Just like Bucky thought would happen, he was scaring you away. "Wait- no, come back." He said as you pulled out of his grip and stood.
You shook your head and cleared your throat. "Nope, not coming back. I know you don't mean it because... You're Bucky and you say shit like that all the time, so..." You inhaled deeply and started towards the hallway. "I'm gonna go get ready for bed."
Bucky stood from the chair and followed after you. "Sugar, wait." He grabbed your wrist gently and tugged you towards him, nearly crashing you into his chest.
In a sudden movement, his hands held your cheeks and his lips engulfed yours, the abrupt motion causing you to stumble a step back; your hands flying up to grip the sides of his shirt.
The kiss was slow and deep, the taste of his minty toothpast flooding your tastebuds when he slipped his tongue pass your lips.
He pulled away after a moment, looking at your shocked expression. "I mean it."

So here's a snippet of a long fic I'm close to finishing. Everyone lives, post-VA where La Squadra start a polyamorous relationship in the aftermath of their trauma. Risotto's struggling and has refused to join them, but why? Well, its explained near immediately because I haven no patience to write a slow burn fic. I’ll tag @mariesmh and @dicksoutformtl since they’re interested.
💖 The first part is Melone/Risotto from the Prologue to give a bit of context to what type of injuries they've all suffered and how Risotto feels about it. Melone's POV third person.
🥓 The second part is from Chapter 4, Prosciutto/Risotto within the context of a D/s scene that involves Sir kink, inappropriate use of stands via Grateful Dead tentacles, blowjobs, leg locking, facial, slight overstimulation and voyeurism (the other members of La Squadra are watching but not participating). Risotto POV third person.
It's soooo hard to not just share this whole fucking thing but I don't wanna do that until it's done! I just have maybe two chapters left and it's driving me crazy! >:(
Whatever feedback you guys can give will be very appreciated, I hope yall enjoy!
💕 Prologue Snippet, Melone/Risotto, Melone POV--
Risotto sits back in the chair for a moment, runs a hand through his dirty hair. Slowly, he reaches out and takes Melone’s hand, brushing his thumb over the gloved knuckles. It would be so easy for Melone to be petty right now. For him to snatch his hand back and give Risotto a small taste of what he’s been feeling these last few months. He can’t bring himself to do it when Risotto laces their fingers together, grip tightening as if Melone will disappear into thin air if he lets him go.
“Are you all sure about this?” Risotto utters so softly that Melone almost didn’t catch it. “Wouldn’t you consider it an abuse of power?”
Melone scoffs, “Don’t bullshit me, that can’t be what this is about. You might be capo, but you’ve never treated us as beneath you. At least it’s felt that way until recently.”
Risotto looks away and rubs at his chest with his free hand as if he’s in pain. Where Melone knows clustered bullet scars lay just shy of his heart.
“Then let me rephrase,” Risotto bites at his lip and turns his focus to the floor. His hair long enough to shield his eyes as he forces out the words, “Even with everything I’ve put you through. After what I’ve done to this team—You still want—You would all still want to—”
Oh.
Oh.
Fuck, they really are stupid.
“You didn’t force us to do anything,” Melone takes his hand back to cup Risotto’s face, making him look up so he could see into those weary eyes, “It was our choice to follow you.”
Risotto shakes his head in disbelief, laughs hard and bitter. He shoves Melone’s hands away to stand and start pacing, “And my choices are why Prosciutto’s body is barely holding together. Pesci’s nerves cause his limbs to randomly lose feeling and it can last for days. Ghiaccio still coughs up blood after raising his voice and sometimes can’t even speak. Formaggio was nearly flayed alive. He won’t look into a mirror anymore unless it’s for talking to Illuso.”
“Stop it, Risotto, that’s enough—”
“And it’s a fucking miracle that only so many pieces of Illuso had melted off as he escaped. If he’d been any slower—Don’t even get me started on Sorbet and Gelato—” Risotto stops cold as Melone puts himself in his path and presses up against the solid wall of his body, wraps his arms around him.
The way Risotto’s voice cracks on his next words make Melone’s heart ache, “Then there’s you.”
“You don’t have to keep going, I was there,” Melone says, muffled into Risotto’s chest.
As if he needs a reminder of that night. His tongue had swollen twice its size and he’d almost choked on it right in the middle of the train station. Antivenom and hospital intervention could only do so much. In the end his tongue had been unsalvageable, necrotized to the stump. Would have spread to his jaw if not for Giovanna’s intervention, and that had hurt more than the initial snake bite. The muscles in his face and neck take hours to stop twitching whenever he’s stressed and had they not found the right combination of medications for his cluster headaches, he might’ve taken a power tool to his temples ages ago.
The only reason any of them recovered as well as they had was because of swearing their loyalty to Passione’s new management. It was also why they’d been healed only so much. The members of La Squadra Esecuzioni didn’t get to where they were by dumb luck. All of them know damn well what Don Giovanna’s so-called mercy means.
Risotto can throw him around like he weighs nothing, and yet he lets himself get pulled into a kiss. His lips move soft and unsure, questioning where to go, what to do. Melone takes him gently by the chin, and shows him the way.
When their bodies hit the mattress, Melone takes advantage of the impact to coax Risotto’s mouth open. Slides his tongue along that plush bottom lip before worrying it between his teeth. He smoothes his hands up Risotto’s abs, presses his palms over the nipples that peak through the shirt’s thin fabric before moving steadily up to settle once again on wide shoulders. A soft moan slips from Risotto’s mouth and before Melone can greedily swallow the sound, Risotto pulls away. He turns his head into the bedsheets, hiding his face as if he’s ashamed of what he wants.
Melone can’t bear any more of this misplaced guilt.
“I don’t have any regrets, nor resentment,” He kisses along Risotto’s neck, “and I know the others feel the same. Truly, Risotto. So come back to us, we miss you.”
Dawn breaks through the cracks of the blinds as Risotto pulls Melone impossibly closer, buries his face into the crook of his neck and trembles apart in silence.
When he’s calmed down, Melone pushes his warm lips against the shell of Risotto’s ear and whispers, “Tell me what you need. I’ll give it to you. Anything.”
That’s how Melone finds a belt wrapped tight around Risotto’s throat as he folds his Capo in half and fucks him into the bed that early morning. And later how he finds himself zip-tying Risotto’s wrists to the bedpost and sneers at how much of a needy slut he is, edging him until all the iron-based items in the room rattle and then doesn’t let him cum until the evening of next day. Then he bends Risotto over the desk in his office so the thick insulation can muffle his sobs, and uses the same belt as before to beat the swell of his ass into brilliant shades of red. And then—
They put a set of rules in place, with new ones eventually added, and old ones changed or removed. Thoroughly discussed. Then gone over again. Once more, just to be sure. Toys are bought online, and their packages are received with the utmost discretion.
Weeks go by, and things start to improve, slowly. Risotto continues to have that look on his face when around everyone else, but at least he’s able to be around everyone else. Even if he acts too cautious, like one wrong step would see him in some sort of exile. As if he isn’t a seasoned assassin who’s murdered dozens, nor a capo in the most dangerous organization in the country.
Melone continues to be the only one he goes to for sex. Which raises more than a few brows and jealous mutterings behind his back that Melone pretends not to hear and tries not to take to heart. Being a part of this thing, (a polycule, thank you, internet) is so new for all of them. No one has a clue what they’re doing, he has no idea what he’s doing. On top of that, none of them have ever been very good at using their words to express themselves.
When he gently confronts Risotto about it, the man shrugs like usual when he doesn’t want to make a big deal out of something that’s actually a big deal. Usually when that issue has to do with himself. Fuck’s sake, Melone’s going to have to wrestle Prosciutto or Pesci or maybe even Illuso, someone into helping him make some kind of spread sheet about interpreting all of their communication styles and just casually pass them out at their next weekly meeting.
“I enjoy the dynamic we have.” Risotto answers, confirming Melone’s suspicion that their style of play is what Risotto usually prefers, them having only fucked vanilla (well, by their standards) a handful of times. Past and current partners like Melone to be on the receiving end but he was more than familiar with the dominant role as well. If this is how Risotto needs it, then he’s more than happy for things to stay this way between them.
Risotto bows his head, keeps his eyes on the floor, “You say there’s no resentment, but how can you—I don’t know if I can—” He pinches the bridge of his nose, frustrated, “With the way I look and my rank as capo, I’m sure they all have certain expectations of me. I don’t want to disappoint anyone.”
More than I already have.
💕 Chapter Four Snippet, Prosciutto/Risotto, Risotto POV--
“Well, I’m not going to make you beg, at least not yet.” Prosciutto lays back on the bed, pushes the bottle of lube that was hiding in the sheets into Risotto’s eager hands and says, “I want you to use your mouth and hands on me. If you can make it good, I’ll think about rewarding you further.”
He unclasps the hooks at the crotch of the bodysuit, and Prosciutto is so hard that his cock springs up with enough force to nearly hit Risotto square in the face. Prosciutto doesn’t take notice, grunts as the hot length twitches against Risotto’s lips. He kisses down the shaft, sucks on the veins near the base, grazing his teeth along the light blue lines, nice and slow. He can feel Prosciutto’s blood thrumming, rising up to tint the skin he plays with between his teeth.
A weight materializes and settles behind him but it's not warm nor heavy enough to be a human body, the skin inflexible and texture too rigid. Four long tendrils brush against his back, tease along the rope burns and bruises left behind from the shibari. A tendril wraps around his waist, and it doesn’t take much effort for Risotto to figure out what’s happening. The tendrils spread him open, and one slides down feather soft to rest against his hole. Risotto shivers, takes a moment to look down and sees The Grateful Dead’s monstrously large hands caging him in under it’s humanoid form.
He can feel Prosciutto’s smirk, “Surprise.”
Risotto hadn’t explicitly set any rules against the use of stands for tonight. That had been left to Melone’s judgment because of his craving for as little input as possible over what will happen to him. Still, he’d have to be special kind of stupid to go along with this. The Grateful Dead could whither them all away, ashes to ashes, in seconds.
“You better have a good reason for why you’ve stopped. Is there something you need to tell me?” Prosciutto sits up a bit, gauging his reaction. An obvious way of giving Risotto an out should he need it. A tendril encircles his throat, the blunt end coming to rest just under his mouth.
It would be an insult not to trust Prosciutto or Melone to know what they’re doing, and he won’t contemplate it any further.
“No, sir.” Risotto licks his lips, flicks his tongue against the blunt end of the tendril.
Prosciutto shivers as his tongue makes contact, “Then stop wasting my time and finish what you’ve started.”
Risotto responds by sucking down the head of Prosciutto’s cock, savoring the taste and feel of pale thighs twitching against the sides of his face. He relaxes his throat, softens his tongue on the way down until coarse dark blond hair tickles his nose. His knuckles press and roll along the seam of Prosciutto’s sack experimentally, and there’s a heady rush of pride when he hears a keen, feels the heels of Prosciutto’s feet dig lightly into his back.
His other hand pops open the bottle of lube, warms the slick between his digits before circling the soft heat of Prosciutto’s entrance. The tendril resting against his own hole imitates the motions, every press and twist and tease. He moans around the cock in his mouth as heat pours back into him, slowly starting to fill out his own cock as he hears Prosciutto’s laugh filling the room. It’s cut off when Risotto sinks his finger inside to the second knuckle and Grateful Dead sinks further inside of him at the same time, both of them moaning in tandem. Prosciutto’s thighs clamp tighter around his face, using the leverage to shoot back up and curl around his head.
“Stop, wait just a moment, it’s—It’s so much—” Prosciutto’s hands twist in his hair until his eyes start to water, presses Risotto’s face down on his cock impossibly further and for a moment Risotto thinks that he’s going to remain trapped here. Not that he minds at all. He focuses on breathing steady through his nose, swallowing around the head of Prosciutto’s cock resting a little past the ring of his throat.
The man above him moans out, body going slack once again, “Risotto—So good for me—Fuck fuck fuck, this feels—”
He can’t even begin to imagine what the feedback loop Prosciutto’s receiving from his stand fucking into him feels like. Prosciutto’s grip steadily goes slack, giving him enough room to work again and he can already taste precum. A steady leak that he swallows down every time the head of Prosciutto’s cock reaches the back of his throat. When the moans of the man above him turn into chants of praise and rising whines he adds another finger, thrust and curls them both double time.
Prosciutto’s heady noises are going straight to his cock and Risotto tries to press his hips into the side of the bed for some relief, but Grateful Dead’s grip around his waist is unflappable. Risotto moans over a pass against his prostate as his fingers curl inside the man above him and the vibrations cause Prosciutto's thighs to start shaking again. His voice cracks over a cry of Risotto’s name with hips stuttering against his mouth. Risotto can’t bring himself to show any mercy at that reaction, he hums a steady rhythm and clenches purposefully around the tendril that's stopped thrusting inside of him. It twitches erratically at his entrance, proper multitasking an impossible feat for Prosciutto in the face of his impending release.
“‘S too much, get off, get off me!” Prosciutto howls, back arching so hard that it has to be painful.
For a brief moment cum paints the back of Risotto’s throat, across his tongue and lips. The tendrils that had been content to rest around his neck and waist tighten, pulling him back enough for Prosciutto to grind his spurting cock against his face. He keeps his eyes closed and mouth open, sticks out his tongue to chase down as much of the taste as he can until Prosciutto’s hips go still.
Prosciutto slings an arm over his face. Every heave of his chest rides the body suit up higher along his tight waist in a sweaty, cum stained mess. Risotto takes in the pallor of Prosciutto’s skin, the thick cords of scar tissue peeking out from underneath the bunched fabric. He smooths his hands up just past Prosciutto’s hips and the man flinches back so Risotto silently retreats, letting him straighten out the dark mesh over his torso. When their eyes meet, he makes a show of licking his lips to break the strings of cum and split connecting his mouth and Prosciutto’s softening cock. Swipes his thumb over the thick stripes of it clinging to his face and sucks it clean with a pleased hum.
“Thank you, sir,” Risotto rasps, lightly floating outside himself. He rests his head on the softer part of Prosciutto’s thigh.
Prosciutto responds by stretching his arms out and groaning up at the ceiling.
“Now you know how I felt!” Ghiaccio teases, a chorus of laughs following after.
Prosciutto sits up to throw a pillow at the group but he’s laughing, bright and unguarded along with them. Risotto smiles before he can stop himself, pressing suckling kisses into the skin beneath him until one of Prosciutto’s bare feet brushes up his half-hard shaft. He goes rigid at the touch, gasping as he becomes present in his body again.

——————————————————————————
If you’re looking for the personification of the bad boy stereotype, look no further than Lee Donghyuck. His legs were clad in ripped black jeans and on his shoulders always lay his signature black leather jacket. His usually bruised knuckles were adorned with silver rings and the cigarette that hung from his lips all made him look like the typical bad boy out of a cheesy 90s romance film.
As infuriating as the smirk that was constantly plastered on his lips was, and the way he insisted everybody called him ‘Haechan’ instead of Donghyuck, you couldn’t deny that something about him pricked your interest.
Maybe it was something to do with how self assured he was, the confidence he radiated in simply being himself and being in his own skin that made people almost resent him for it. Or maybe it was something to do with how he reminded you of every boy that your mother would warn you about when you were growing up, being told to steer clear of the boys in black, they would be the ones to break your heart. Maybe it was the fact that as soon as anybody new arrives in the area, they’re immediately told to ‘Avoid Haechan, he’s bad news.’ And you weren’t the exception to the rule.
There’s just one problem, you never do what you’re told.
So when you were told to stay away from Haechan, you simply rolled your eyes and kept walking, you weren’t afraid of some bad boy. You’d moved around your entire life, your father’s job meaning you had to be prepared to pack up and travel wherever he needed you to, and, throughout your time you had heard of and come across every kind of character that there was in a high school. A few groups in particular always stuck out to you.
The jocks. Probably the most famous group and likely the first group that comes to anyone’s mind when you talk about high school. Jocks are an elite crowd, often very popular and normally find themselves very important. For them, high school tends to be the best time of their lives, sadly finding that this popularity and fear doesn’t translate to the workplace. Jocks are a large group as well, in fact, they often have so many members that they divide into sub-categories, usually by sport. You have the baseball team, the football team, the soccer team etc. and then these are ordered into a hierarchy apparently based on the importance that each team has to the school when in reality it’s down to how attractive/popular the team captain is.
Splitting off nicely from the jocks come the cheerleaders. Originally part of the same pack but grew in popularity when they adopted mean girls cliché. Therefore, in order to gain more power and dominate the school, they became a separate breed. The Head Cheerleader was guaranteed to be just as popular as she was bitchy, a stereotype that you were fed up of. What if they were actually nice people and felt as though they had to be rude cause that was what the “role” of Head Cheerleader asked of them? What kind of a place would that be? Anyway, getting back to the point, the best thing to do with this group, would be to avoid them entirely.
Then, usually the polar opposite in terms of popularity, come the nerds/geeks. You had never really been sure why this particular group was always picked on. You always thought that being smart and doing well in life was something to brag about, but then, maybe you just had weird opinions. They formed a cluster and stuck with it, whilst also managing to keep themselves to themselves. They sat at the same seats in class, the same table at lunch and never argued back. Despite their deathly awkwardness and shy behaviour, they were usually pretty good people. You just had to be willing to put in the effort to break through their shell.
Next come the artsy kids. This group can, once again, split into sub categories based on Theatre, Art, Dance and Music but that depends on the size of the school. Normally they just come under the umbrella term of the artsy kids. Very easy to pick on but are normally left alone. They’re pretty chill and mostly mind their own business, despite often being slightly obnoxious about the art that they specialise in. You swore that if one person asked you to go and see their one woman show you might punch them. You’re a broke student, why would you pay to put yourself through two hours of pretentious speech? Yeah, the artsy kids weren’t quite your scene.
Honourable mentions go to the stoners, the class clowns, the hipsters, the ‘I was born in the wrong generation’, the gamers and the punks. But there was only one group left worth mentioning.
Finally, the last stereotypical school clique would be the troublemakers, otherwise known as the bad boys and bad girls The commonalities between the two groups tend to include things like, black ripped clothing, silver jewellery, sassy attitudes and bad decisions. They never stray from their crowd, finding other groups too boring and stuck up for their taste. The cheerleaders and jocks attempt to pick on them, but it rarely works out in their favour. Instead of leaving victorious while dropping the mic, they often find themselves running back to their respective groups with their tail in between their legs. They like to either find relationships with their own kind, or play around with various people until they’re bored. Things are never too serious for this group.
So as soon as you arrived, you knew you’d need to find somewhere to fit in. You didn’t really conform to one of the many cliche groups that roamed this new school. You instead thought that people were a mixture of all of them, and shouldn’t be defined by a single personality trait, but that often wasn’t the most popular opinion. In fact, that opinion is why you often found yourself alone, wandering the halls by yourself. Sometimes people pitied you (usually the hipsters or artsy kids who tried to make you “find your passion”) but, to be honest, you didn’t mind it.
Being by yourself meant that you didn’t owe anything to anyone, and it meant that you could turn the school upside down and disappear without regretting a thing. After all, that’s how you left your last three schools.
---
You walked through the doors on your first day, to empty folders tucked under your arm as you walked towards the Principle’s office. You had barely made it five steps before some guys in a football jersey stopped you. He moved in front of you, buffing himself up in an attempt to look more impressive. You refused to speak first, instead just raising your eyebrows judgmentally.
‘So what should I call you?’ He purred, looking at you through hooded eyes.
‘You shouldn’t.’ You cut back, already tired of his attempt at flirting. You knew you had “new kid” written all over you and this wasn’t a genuine attempt, but most like rather a “welcome to the school fresher” and you weren’t here for it.
‘Trouble it is.’ The guy flirted, sending you a cheesy wink to which you could only respond with a groan and an eye roll.
‘God could you get anymore cliche? You may want to be a bit more inventive if you wanna impress me.’ With a quick tilt of your head, you turned and stalked past him to the other end of the hall, leaving the poor jock with his mouth hanging slightly open at your reply.
You felt a bit bad turning him down so intensely like that, but you also knew that if you didn’t make a strong first impression, you would be like fresh meat to them. And you didn’t want to go through that again.
---
After meeting the Principle, getting his painfully rehearsed welcome speech, then dealing with the three students who called themselves the “Welcome Committee”, you briefly stopped off at your locker to grab the text book that had been left there for you and place your empty folders there. You wouldn’t need them until your classes anyway. You picked up the textbook and grabbed a pad of paper that was conveniently left there for you as well and headed towards your Maths class.
You walked through the door, sighing in defeat as you saw you were one of the last ones to arrive. This meant that all eyes were on you and the teacher stood up and introduced you as the new student.
‘So y/n why don’t you tell the class a little bit about yourself?’ The teacher gave you a wide smile, one that you were sure was meant to reassure you but it honestly just creeped you out slightly.
‘Uhhh, sure. My name’s y/n and I moved here about a month ago.’ You sent the class a quick nod before attempting to move off to head off an empty seat at the back.
‘Ahhh come now y/n, I’m sure there’s more that you can tell us.’ The teacher stopped you in your tracks, as you let out a breath of annoyance.
‘Ok. I’ve never lived anywhere longer than a year, I like coffee and I’m done with this now.’ You quickly moved away before the teacher could stand up and make you continue. You slouched in your seat, crossing your arms and letting out another sigh of frustration.
You had just opened your books and prepared to start listening when the door swung open again. All the heads in the class, including yours, looked to see who would be walking in so late. A boy appeared, his honey skin glowing slightly in the morning sun that reflected off his leather jacket and silver jewellery. He probably couldn’t get more cliche, but he also couldn’t get more beautiful.
‘Haechan, you’re late.’ Your teacher snapped and you looked back at the boy walking through the seats.
So this was Haechan, this was who you had been warned about earlier. You remembered the annoyingly cheery welcome that this group of three had given you, yet this preppy ginger was the only one who spoke. You were sure she was a really lovely person, she was just way too excited about the first day of school to not be annoying. Anyway, she’d told you about the groups at school and made a point to mention this “Haechan”. Her exact words being:
‘Let me save you the trouble, Haechan is the last person you want to get involved with here, in any way. He puts himself as number one and nothing and no one is going to change that. It’s in your best interests to stay away from him.’
And yet, despite your absolutely minimal effort to avoid him, this Haechan was standing at the front of your class, and you couldn’t lie, you were already intrigued.
‘Yeah I’m aware.’ Haechan retaliated, his bored voice bringing you out of your memories and back to reality.
‘Do you feel like apologising?’ The teacher asked, a very forced smile on his face. Haechan turned back towards him, breathing in as if he was thinking before responding with a smile.
‘Not really, no.’ He then turned away and walked towards the back of the classroom. He approached where you were sitting, examined you quickly causing you to frown at his behaviour, before he pulled out the chair next to yours and collapsed into it.
He slouched back into his seat, crossing his arms and staring mindlessly at the front of the class, where the teacher was still sending him the stink eye.
‘Haechan, did you bring your books?’ The teacher asked with the kind of tone that told you he probably already knew the answer.
‘Nope!’ The boy replied, popping the ‘p’ and causing the teacher to obviously roll his eyes.
‘Well, maybe our new student, y/n, would be nice enough to share with you for today?’
It took everything in you not to roll your eyes at his statement. But you still shifted your textbook in between the two of you so that he could see it. Haechan sat up in his chair slightly in surprise, as if he wasn’t expecting you to actually do it.
‘Thank you y/n. Now let’s begin-’ The teacher turned back to the board and began the lesson.
After only about five minutes you realised that you had done this entire topic in your previous school. It had been necessary for you to pass the entrance exam here, so you knew all of this already. You huffed once again in frustration, dropping your pen and leaning back in your chair as you began to pick at your nails. Why would they bother to ask you to know something that they’re just going to teach you as soon as you got here?
You could see Haechan notice and begin to subtly watch your behaviour so you leant forwards to whisper to him.
‘Is there something interesting about me?’
‘That’s exactly what I’m trying to figure out.’ Haechan replied, his voice just as soft as yours was and yet you couldn’t resist the shivers that it sent down your spine.
“Well let me know if you find anything?’ You spoke softly, turning away from him to look at the ceiling as he did the same.
‘Haven’t you been told to stay away from me?’ He asked you, not even bothering to look back towards you.
‘Oh yeah, I got that speech. The welcoming committee was quite informative about you and your personality.’ Now that got his attention. His head turned, as he looked at you out of the corner of his eye, examining your features carefully.
‘So...’ He spoke, dragging out the word as he looked at you.
‘So?’ You asked, not sure what he was getting at.
‘Why aren’t you doing as you were told?’ He questioned, leaving you to turn back to him with an amused look on your face.
‘What makes you think I wanna do what they tell me to? They look as though they have the personality of milk.’ You groaned, remembering the fake happiness that radiated off them.
Haechan couldn’t help the chuckle that came up in his throat, unable to believe just how accurate your words were. Nobody in that school would quite be able to admit that that girl wasn’t drop dead boring.
‘Well, you’re a little firecracker aren’t you?’ He smirked at you, causing you to simply raise an eyebrow in reply. ‘I think you’re gonna fit right in with us.’
‘Who says I want to?’ You smirked back, now enjoying the interaction you were having.
‘Do you want to?’ He leant in closer and you could smell the mint of his breath.
‘We’ll see. Don’t want to give away all my secrets so quickly.’ You pulled back, leaving Haechan awkwardly leaning over half of your desk just as the teacher turned back around.
‘Haechan! Not only are you not paying attention but you’re distracting y/n as well. If you’re not going to pay attention you can wait outside until you’re prepared to take this class seriously.’ He snapped, and Haechan turned to you with a surprised look on his face, not expecting you to have set him up like that. He nodded, unable to keep the small smile from his lips and stood, walking swiftly out of the door at the front.
He leaned back in for one second, just to cheekily wave at the teacher who looked as though he was about to explode and it took everything in you to stop yourself from laughing.
A couple more minutes passed before you were bored beyond belief. You were starting to think that getting your only source of entertainment, Haechan, kicked out of class wasn’t the smartest idea you’d ever had. You were halfway through counting the black marks on the ceiling when you heard a very quiet tapping from behind you, You turned around in your chair to see Haechan standing by the floor length window at the back of the classroom. He was on the outside looking in and quickly gestured for you to follow him.
He cracked the window open slightly and leant in, getting just close enough to you to whisper:
‘I’ve played your game, now it’s my turn. Your move y/n, are you gonna live up to your attitude or are you all talk?’
With that he moved away from the window, hiding behind the wall as the teacher turned around again. You didn’t want to get caught sneaking out on your first day, but you also couldn’t stand the idea of letting Haechan win. Somehow the boy was an addictive kind of annoying, no matter how infuriated or annoyed you had gotten, you already wanted more.
You waited for the teacher to turn around and quickly piled up your books, placing them on the shelf under your desk. This was your only class of the day and you were in here the next morning so you weren’t too fussed about leaving them behind.
You began to get up but your eyes suddenly caught sight of blue haired guy sitting a couple of rows ahead of you watching you. He raised his eyebrows in question, as if asking if you were going to go, to which you shrugged and he shrugged himself before turning back around.
You waited until the girl at the front had finished asking her question and, when the teacher turned back to the front to go through the example on the board again, you made your move. You quickly pushed your chair back, relieved when it didn’t make a sound and climbed out of the window. You pulled it gently shut behind you and turned to left, finding yourself face to face with Haechan.
‘Wow, for a minute then I didn’t think you’d have the balls.’ He grinned at you, pulling you out of sight of the class as you began to walk away.
‘Well as you can clearly see, I do. So what now?’ You replied, unable to stop yourself from grinning back.
‘Now we have some fun.’ Haechan said, the smile he sent you this time was the opposite of innocent and it made your heart pump.
This was someone you would enjoy causing trouble with.
---
The two of you decided that leaving the school and skiving on the first day was a bit too cliche and unoriginal, so instead you came up with the idea that, no matter what you guys did, it had to be on school grounds.
‘Interesting...’ Haechan mused, the smirk that you were already familiar with gracing his delicate features. ‘So we cause as much chaos as we like, and do what we like, but there’s a much higher risk of getting caught...’
‘Exactly.’ You clarified. ‘But we can leave for lunch though! I want McDonalds.’ You quickly added, Haechan laughing slightly at your expression.
‘Agreed. So we’ll have our fun here, then head to McDonalds for lunch. Tell you what, why don’t we leave a little earlier than the lunch break so that we avoid bumping into the rest of the students?’ Haechan watched as you nodded in agreement.
You allowed your gaze to drift around the unfamiliar halls until your eyes came to rest on the smoke detector on the wall. Suddenly an idea popped into your head. It was stupid, reckless and if you got caught you would be in serious trouble. Sounds ideal.
‘Hey Haechan?’ You began, turning towards him with a grin on your face.
‘Yeah?’ He answered, a grin appearing on his own. He didn’t know what you were planning but he knew it would be interesting.
‘Have you ever set off the fire alarm?’ You asked, raising an eyebrow as his furrowed in thought.
‘Like falsely pulled it? Yeah.’ He admitted, nodding like it was no big deal, but you shook your head.
‘No, not falsely pulled, actually set it off.’ You watched as his jaw dropped slightly and he shook his head. 'Yeah, neither.’ You told him, before looking away. He followed your gaze to see the smoke detector on the wall.
You both turned back to each other.
‘Well...’ Haechan began, a mischievous grin stretching across his face. ‘There’s a first time for everything.’
---
The alarm blared through the school as you and Hyuck laughed to yourself as the school emptied.
‘No talking!’ A teacher behind you barked, causing the two of you to roll your eyes in sync. Why you had to walk silently during a fire alarm you would never know. If the school was actually on fire you would be sprinting out of it swearing at the top of your lungs, not walking silently in an orderly fashion.
The two of you had had to find a way to set off the alarm, so you put your heads together. Neither of you had managed to come up with anything that wouldn’t get you caught, and you were about to give up when you noticed the cigarettes in Haechan’s pocket. Now that gave you an idea.
You had lit the cigarette and, with Haechan supporting you from beneath as you sat on his shoulders, managed to stuff it inside the fire alarm. You gently blowed on it, to make sure it was lit and there was smoke coming off it and suddenly the alarm blared throughout the school. You then proceeded to slip off his shoulders, him catching you easily in his arms and you both quickly moved into your respective bathrooms.
You stood by the door and counted to five before opening the bathroom door and leaving again. You’d noticed the men’s bathroom door next to you open and Haechan walked out. The two of you blended seamlessly into the crowd of students as they made their way out to the assembly point.
You had decided to hide in the bathroom for a couple of seconds so that neither of you were spotted underneath the fire alarm. You thought that if they noticed the bad boy and the new girl under the fire alarm that ended up having a cigarette stuck in it, the game would be over before it had even properly begun.
Students poured out of the doors of the school, lining up cleanly and efficiently on the sports pitches. You were standing in sections, divided by years and then each class split into lines. You faced your teacher at the front as they called out student’s names from the register.
‘Here.’ You spoke out as you heard your name, a similar call coming from your partner in crime behind you as his name was called. You turned around to face him. ‘Lee Donghyuck?’ You raised a teasing eyebrow.
‘Yep, that’s my real name.’ He replied, looking down at you.
‘So, can I ask then, why Haechan? Donghyuck’s a nice name.’ You wondered, tilting your head out of curiosity.
Haechan opened his mouth to answer but before he could, a boy who you recognised from your Maths class came up to the two of you.
‘Already corrupting the new kid Hyuck?’ He joked, a large smile on his face.
‘Trust me man, she barely needs corrupting.’ Haechan replied, laughing at his friend. ‘Y/n, this is Jaemin, he’s one of my closest friends.’
Jaemin flashed you a smile that you swore almost blinded you. You shook his outstretched hand and returned his smile with one of your own.
‘I’ve gotta say, I was impressed to see you follow him out of that window y/n. It looks like you’ve got some guts.’ Jaemin spoke, his face showing how he was clearly surprised. ‘And I’m guessing from what happened in Maths that this fire alarm may have something to do with the two of you?’
You and Haechan shared a grin and that small action told Jaemin all he needed to know. Jaemin laughed in disbelief, muttering something about how exciting the rest of the year was going to be if this was how you were acting on the first day. You couldn’t quite hear him though, your attention focused on the way that Haechan studied the features on your face, with such intensity you would think he was never going to see them again.
You spent the time making conversation with Jaemin and Haechan, getting to know the two boys, but your attention was drawn away from them when a fire engine made its way into the school gates. All the conversation surrounding you dwindled to a stop as one student asked what was going on.
‘Since there was no fire drill scheduled for today, we needed to call the fire department to determine what caused the alarm to go off.’ Your teacher explained.
The three of you looked at each other in disbelief, all of you unable to stop yourselves from giggling at the chaos you’d caused. You couldn’t help but think that Jaemin had been right. If this was day one, who knew what adventures this year would bring you? You’d never liked a place so quickly like you had here. Maybe for the first time in your life, you’d found somewhere you could actually see yourself staying.
You didn’t want to let yourself get your hopes up though. You had only been in this city a short while, and your father’s job would always mean that you had to move by this time next year. You couldn’t afford to get comfortable.
The boys watched as the firefighters entered the building, attempting to determine what caused the alarm to go off. It didn’t take long before they emerged with one of them holding a small plastic bag. A bad that you assumed that had the cigarette in. The teachers came into a small circle to have a short conversation before turning back to the waiting students.
The Principle suddenly stepped forward, immediately commanding attention from every student present as he began to speak.
‘This fire alarm was no drill. Nor was it an accident. We have evidence that it was set off on purpose and I seriously suggest that anyone who knows anything about how this happens steps forward. Do not make this any worse for you than it already is.’
With that, he turned, and made his way back into the school. An uneasy silence lay over all the students. You teacher walked back over to your group and spoke to the rest of you there.
‘Since it’s so close to lunch, we’ve decided to let you go early. But-’ They raised their voice as everyone began to move off. ‘This incident will not be taken lightly. To anybody who may have been involved, it is in your best interest to own up to it.’
You noticed their eyes were fixated on Haechan, and how they narrowed slightly. They seemed to fully believe that Haechan was involved with setting off the alarm.
‘They always assume it’s me. Whenever anything happens.’ He whispered into your ear and you nodded in understanding. ‘So... McDonalds?’
---
Haechan pulled back into the school grounds after your trip for lunch, Jaemin jumped out of the car and waved at the two of you before heading back into the building. While you and Haechan had a free afternoon, Jaemin didn’t, so, after some begging and bribing on Jaemin’s part, Haechan begrudgingly agreed to drop him off.
You turned back around to Haechan, wondering if you should propose to do something together, or if he was bored of you and had other things he’d rather be doing. However, before you had the chance to make up your mind, Haechan spoke for you.
‘I know where to go now.’ And with that he was off, driving out of the gates and off down the road. You couldn’t help but notice how good of a driver he was, always managing to keep his awareness on the road even when he was talking to you.
Haechan fumbled for something down near his feet, letting out a happy giggle when he found it and pulled out an AUX cord. He offered it to you, telling you to put something on the speakers.
You raised your eyebrows in surprise at his offer, considering he’d adamantly refused to let Jaemin play any of his music on the way to grab lunch, instead choosing to listen to the radio.
‘Already letting me choose the music? Damn, I feel special.’ You teased as Haechan laughed.
‘Just don’t play that song and we’ll be good.’ He looked over for a split second, noticing your offended face and quickly continued. ‘It’s a good song, don’t get me wrong, but all Jaemin plays is girl groups and you reach a limit of how many times you can hear a grown ass boy with blue hair sing Feel Special.’
You looked down at your phone, chuckling to yourself at Haechan’s story. You scrolled through your Spotify to find a good playlist, eventually settling on your driving music one. ‘What You Know’ by ‘Two Door Cinema Club’ started to blare through the speakers.
Haechan nodded, his fingers immediately tapping on the steering wheel in time to the song.
‘Good song!’ He complimented smiling at you as you gasped over-dramatically.
‘Ahhhh, Haechan likes my music taste! I have officially won at life!’ You placed one hand on your heart to emphasise your point as Haechan rolled his eyes, laughing at you. ‘Where are we going by the way?’ You asked, looking out of the window and realising you had no idea where you were. You were still new to the area so you hadn’t got everywhere memorised yet.
‘We’re almost there, don't worry.’ He replied, not giving you an answer in the slightest. You leaned back into your seat, accepting that he wasn’t going to tell you and just listened as Haechan began to sing gently along to the song. You were surprised by his voice, it was soothing and honey-like, the opposite of his image.
You watched him out of the corner of your eye, secretly enjoying listening to his voice more than the music.
---
You were standing behind Haechan in a quiet little coffee shop, looking at everything on the menu. Everything looked so amazing you could feel your mouth watering just from looking at the display cakes.
‘Any idea what you want?’ Haechan asked over his shoulder as you nodded.
‘I’m gonna get the Caramel Frap and a muffin of some kind.’ You replied. ‘What about you?’
‘Doubleshot Vanilla iced Coffee and a brownie. You gonna have coffee in your frap?’ He answered, moving forwards in the line as the person in front of you finished.
‘Always!!!’ You answered in a sing-song voice as Haechan rolled his eyes muttering something about you being as bad as Jaemin.
He stepped up to the counter and gave the cashier a friendly smile.
‘Hi, please can I get one large Caramel Frap with coffee and whip, one large Doubleshot Vanilla iced Coffee, one brownie and-’
‘Whoa what? It’s okay I can pay for myself.’ You interrupted him but he brushed you off.
‘Nah it’s fine, this is on me. And one peanut and banana muffin please?’ He finished the order and your eyes widened at his choice. ‘All the muffins here are good.’ He explained turning back to you.
‘Haechan I-’ You began, slightly in a panic.
‘Y/n, I told you I’m paying.’ He insisted but you continued.
‘Seriously I can’t-’ You stuttered, desperately trying to get your point across.
‘For the last time, y/n I am paying!’ He cut you off again.
‘No! I’m allergic to peanuts...’ You hurriedly told him and watched as his expression morphed into one of utter dread.
‘Oh god.’ He mumbled before turning around and almost throwing himself across the counter in an attempt to correct his order to a white chocolate and raspberry muffin. He turned back to you with the treats in his hand and gave you a sheepish smile. ‘Sorry.’
‘It’s okay, you didn’t know.’ You laughed, looking down at the muffin in your hand that smelt absolutely delicious.
It didn’t take long before your drinks had arrived and Haechan hurried you back into his car, claiming there was one more place he wanted to show you.
---
You were sitting on a bench in a deserted area of the park. Haechan had explained that if you wanted privacy, to come down here as people normally don’t bother to walk this far. He pulled his cigarettes out of his pocket, offering you one which you refused, before lighting his own.
‘It’s always worth it though. The tranquility that you get just from being a little further out.’ He looked sideways at you, tilting his head when he saw your confused expression. ‘What?’
‘Nothing it’s just... Why are you telling me all this? I mean I was told that you were aloof, never telling anyone but a close few details about yourself, keeping everything a mystery and yet here you are. With me, someone you’ve known now for about five hours and so far we’ve skived Maths, set off the fire alarm, brought the fire brigade to school, bought McDonalds, grabbed a coffee, almost killed me and now you’re talking to me about tranquility. You just... It doesn’t seem like something you’d do with someone you just met.’ You admitted, shrugging your shoulders as you finished.
Haechan looked away from you for a second, taking a drag from his cigarette before he faced you again to answer your question.
‘Well, I guess the only thing to say to that is, not all rumours are true. And yes, you have a point, not a lot of people sit and talk about tranquility with someone they just met, but not a lot of people get into trouble worthy of suspension on the first day. And even less of those people are willing to do it with me. Maybe that has something to do with it.’
‘Tell me something, then. Which rumours are true?’ You challenged.
‘Some of them.’ Haechan admitted. ‘I do smoke, I do cause trouble, I did sleep around quite a bit, and yeah, I hurt some people in the process. And also, yes, I didn’t really care that much. But the one thing I never did was lie to anyone or give them the impression that it was ever something more than just one night. That’s why I was “unsympathetic” to anyone. They knew what they were getting into so why is it my fault that they couldn’t handle it?’
Your jaw dropped slightly, not expecting that kind of answer. You mumbled a quick ‘fair point’ and turned your gaze back to the scenery. The river in front of you flowed gently, coursing it’s own way through life, the sun reflected off the constantly moving waves, casting flecks of light to dance across yours and Haechan’s bodies.
‘But I don’t think I’m gonna be doing that again. It makes you feel kinda empty, like you’re searching for something but anytime you come close to possibly having a chance at finding it, you take it away from yourself. Do you see that up there?’ Haechan changed the topic suddenly, pointing to a cliff edge in between the trees. You squinted slightly, trying to get a look at it, but it was difficult to see through the leaves.
‘Yeah, I think so. What’s up there?’ You asked, turning your body towards him as he grinned.
‘Real tranquility. If you ever want to properly get away, that’s where you go.’ He told you and you looked back. ‘From up there you can see the whole city.’
‘But how do you get up there?’ You wondered and Haechan simply winked in response, tapping his nose twice to signal that he wasn’t going to tell you. ‘Will you ever actually tell me anything when I ask?’
‘We’ll see princess, we’ll see.’ Haechan grinned, turning back to the river but at some point having moved closer to you, so close that your legs were almost touching.
Your heart was pounding, yet you weren’t sure if it was from the nickname or the close proximity of the two of, or both. As much as you tried to convince yourself otherwise, you had a strong suspicion it was the latter.
---
Before you knew it, another month had passed in your new city and you weren’t feeling so much like the obnoxiously new kid. You knew your way around without getting lost, your professors had started to get to know you and stopped treating you like you were made of glass because you were new, and you had a good group of people around you.
Haechan had easily become your closest friend, his constant teasing covered a layer of love that it took him a while to show to you. But once he did, you were constantly smothered by his affections. And if Haechan wasn’t smothering you, then Jaemin would be. Once you got to know him, Jaemin was almost too nice for his own good, his caring and loving nature making him a very easy person to get along with. There was never an awkward moment between the two of you and already, he felt like a friend you’d known for years.
Apart from those two, you had also become friendly with Momo from your sports class, Hyunjin from Chemistry, Siyeon from History and Dino from Music. But none of them really held a candle to how close you were with Haechan.
You found yourself spending most of your time with Haechan, Jaemin often came too but you realised pretty quickly after befriending him that, wherever you were, Haechan would find a way to be there too.
Your friendship hadn’t gone unnoticed by the rest of the school either. In fact, you were surprised by how quickly it had gone around that the two of you were close. The day after you had gone out for a coffee, you had walked into school to be greeted with confused stares and hushed whispers surrounding you everywhere you went.
You did your best to just ignore them, you told yourself you couldn’t care less what people here thought of you, it wasn’t as if you would be here for long anyway. Their whispers and accusations sometimes got to you slightly, but every time you finished your classes and saw Haechan waiting for you with his sunshine smile, you found all your worries melting off you.
You had always met some pretty cool people wherever you went, but you had never met anyone quite like Haechan, nor had you ever expected to. You already knew that he was something you would miss about this town when you inevitably left.
‘Bye Dad!’ You shouted through your house, a similar response coming from his study as you walked out of the front door. Even though you didn’t have class until late morning on a Tuesday, you and Haechan made it a tradition to grab a coffee together before it started.
And as you turned around there he was. Leaning out of the open window of his car grinning at you.
You smiled back in greeting, before climbing into the passenger seat, grabbing that aux cable he had offered you, and setting down as he took off.
Haechan had officially entrusted you with the music, naming you the car DJ much to Jaemin’s discontent. You were often on the receiving end of his whiny complaints about the injustice and unfair treatment he was getting.
Haechan pulled into the street that your favourite bakery was one, parking his car swiftly before you both made you way into the shop. You had arrived a little later than usual due to traffic, so you quickly approached the counter.
You leant forwards, catching the barista’s attention and gave them a smile before telling them your order.
‘Hi! Please can I have one Caramel Frap with coffee, one chocolate chip cookie, one Doubleshot Vanilla Iced coffee and one brownie please?’
The barista nodded, handing you the card machine as you quickly tapped your phone before Haechan could complain. You turned around, expecting to see him watching you in surprise, but instead he was nowhere to be seen.
The barista handed you the cookie and brownie in a bag before they moved to make your coffees as Haechan jogged into the shop.
‘Left my phone in my car.’ He explained before moving towards the counter.
‘Here.’ You said, offering him the bag which held his brownie. ‘Your coffee is on the way.’
Haechan reached for the bag slowly, confusion all over his face as he looked inside it.
‘I got you a Doubleshot Vanilla Iced coffee.’ You informed him, relishing in the way his face lit up with excitement at the mention of his favourite drink.
‘Why- You didn’t have to do this!’ Haechan whined. ‘I’ll pay you back!’
‘No you won’t.’ You said firmly, ignoring his protests. ‘I never paid you back for the first time we got a coffee together so this counts for then. Now we’re even.’
‘How did you know what to get me though?’ Haechan wondered, looking up at the menu.
‘I remembered?’ You offered, laughing at him slightly. ‘Plus you mentioned it to me a couple of days ago that it was your favourite so I thought it was safest to go with that one.’
You head turned towards the counter as your name was called, signalling that your drinks were ready. You walked over to collect them, missing the way Haechan watched you go with the softest smile on his face.
You handed him his drink as the two of you made your way back to his car.
‘Ready for class?’ You asked, groaning slightly at the thought of your history lecture that was looming.
But he didn’t reply, instead just looked at you. You tilted your head in confusion at him, wondering why he wasn’t starting the car.
‘Haechan?’ You asked and something in him seemed to wake up.
‘Hyuck.’ He corrected, turning away from you and beginning to drive away. ‘Call me Hyuck.’
You couldn’t help the small smile that spread across your face as you cruised through the streets.
‘Hyuck...’ You repeated to yourself under your breath, unaware of the way that Hyuck’s lips twitched upwards into a smile slightly as you did.
---
For the next two weeks you fully utilised your new privilege, calling him Hyuck at every opportunity you had. You also couldn’t stop yourself because every time you called him Hyuck, he would turn around to look at you with the largest grin on his face. There was no lying that both of you were happy with the rapid speed the two of you were becoming so close you were almost inseparable.
You were lying in your bed on Friday night, your chemistry textbook and worksheets from hours ago lay abandoned on your desk as you stared up at your ceiling. Your final lecture had been cancelled, so you originally planned to come back and try to get some work done. Only, once you started did you realise that your mind was just a fuzzy mess and there was no way you were going to get through it.
Instead you decided to go to sleep, hoping that some rest would help you clear your head and you’d feel more refreshed the next morning. However, your attempt to get an early night for once was disrupted by your mind and body purely refusing to let sleep take you.
You groaned, rolling over on to your side and staring at your clock. The numbers shined brightly in your face, the red 2:08am reflecting off your eyes as you stared at them. Turns out it was Saturday morning.
You were just about to give up and go downstairs to watch something, when you noticed your phone screen suddenly light up. You grabbed your phone and lifted it to your face to see a text sitting on your home screen.
Hyuck: yo
Hyuck: are you awake
You grinned at your phone, texting back a quick reply.
You: yeah
You: couldn’t sleep. why
Hyuck: come outside
You furrowed your eyebrows at that, silently moving to your window and pulling the curtains back. You looked down at your drive and saw Hyuck’s car sitting there with him in the driver’s seat staring up at your window. You made eye contact with him and he nodded towards his empty passenger seat. You held up a finger, asking him to wait a minute, and you shut your curtain again.
You quickly grabbed a pair of shoes and ran out of your bedroom, making sure to grab your keys on your way. You made your way through your house, leaving a quick note for your dad in case he woke up and thought you had disappeared, and slipped as silently as you could out of your front door, jogging down to the car that was waiting for you.
‘God it’s cold out there!’ You exclaimed, rubbing your arms to warm yourself up as you directed the heaters in his car towards you.
Hyuck raised his eyebrows at you, replying sarcastically.
‘Well, maybe if you’d worn more than a thin t shirt in October this wouldn’t be a problem.’
You looked down at what you were wearing, huffing when you realised he was right. Your choice of pyjamas, a t-shirt and jogging bottoms, while comfortable, were not doing much to battle the cold night air. You opened the door to run back inside and grab a jumper but Hyuck stopped you.
‘Don’t worry, I had a feeling you would do this, so I came prepared.’ He leaned backwards, reaching into his back seat and pulled out a hoodie of his before dropping it into your lap. ‘Here, wear this.’ He told you, quickly turning his attention back to his car as he got it started.
You looked down at the hoodie in your lap, unable to stop yourself from smiling slightly, and you whispered a quick thanks. You pulled it over your head, allowing yourself to be submerged in the soft fabric. The first thing you noticed was Hyuck scent taking over your being. You were surrounded by him and it was much more comforting than you were expecting.
Unknown to you, Hyuck found himself unable to take his eyes off you. Seeing you in his hoodie made his heart beat a lot faster than he was willing to admit, and, if he was being honest, he didn’t want you to ever take it off.
Hyuck began to drive and you found yourself automatically reaching for the aux cable. You decided to play one of your favourite songs that you hadn’t heard in a while, and soon ‘(Un)Lost’ by ‘The Maine’ gently filled the car, immediately reinforcing the relaxed atmosphere.
‘You hungry?’ Hyuck asked, and you shrugged slightly.
‘I could go for some ramen to be honest.’ You replied. ‘What’s going to be open at this hour though?’ You looked out of your window and found yourself filled with confusion. ‘Where even are we?’
‘Somewhere I like to come when I can’t sleep.’ He answered you. ‘Also, don’t worry, I know a place to eat.’
You hummed in response, trusting Hyuck’s judgement when it came to food. You had learnt that he always knew the best places. You couldn’t help the feeling of deja vu you were having, flashbacks to the time you and Hyuck first got coffee together and he refused to tell you where you were going, travelled through your head.
You stared out of the window, trying to recognise any of your surroundings, but you were on an empty road with trees on either side of you. If you weren’t with Hyuck you would have been terrified.
Eventually, he began to slow down, and you spotted a neon lit diner to your right. Hyuck drew the car to a halt and you both climbed out. He noticed the slightly nervous look on your face as your eyes darted across the dark woods surrounding you, and held out a hand. You smiled shyly, reaching out for him. The second you felt his hand in yours, you immediately relaxed and allowed Hyuck to pull you towards the diner.
A small bell sounded, signalling your arrival as Hyuck pushed the door open, and a man who you assumed was around mid-twenties appeared from the back. One look at the two of you and his face lit up into the biggest smile.
‘Donghyuck! Welcome back!’ He exclaimed, throwing his arms out to the side for emphasis.
‘Hi Johnny.’ Hyuck laughed, bringing you forwards as the tall male came around the counter to give him a hug. He pulled away from the hug and turned towards you. ‘Johnny, this is y/n. Y/n, this is Johnny, he runs this diner.’
‘Ahhhh, so this is the famous y/n!’ Johnny laughed, turning towards you. ‘It’s nice to finally meet you.’
‘It’s nice to meet you too.’ You replied, slightly taken aback at how nice this guy was.
‘So the usual?’ Johnny asked Hyuck and he nodded in response. ‘Anything for you, y/n?’
‘Surprise me.’ You said, having no idea what this place even offered, and Johnny nodded, his large smile never leaving his face.
‘Oh, Taeil is in the kitchen tonight if you want to say hi.’ Johnny said, turning back to Hyuck. Hyuck’s eyes lit up at the mention of Taeil and he turned to you, telling you he’d be back in a second.
‘Don’t rush, Hyuck.’ You laughed. It was clear from Hyuck’s expression that he hadn’t seen this Taeil in a while.
‘Tell him the order while you’re there?’ Johnny shouted, getting a shout back in reply. Johnny chuckled to himself, offering you a seat by the island and sitting next to you. ‘You know, Donghyuck talks about you a lot when he’s here.’
Your eyes shot up to his, your eyebrows lifting slightly in surprise and he nodded.
‘Yeah, you must mean a lot to him. Not only are you wearing his hoodie and you get to call him Hyuck, but he brought you here. That’s something...’
‘What makes you say that?’ You asked, sending Johnny an appreciative smile as he poured you a glass of water.
‘This is his safe space, the place where he comes whenever he wants to escape. Mainly from other people.’ Johnny gestured around him, and you followed his movements, your eyes resting on the seats, tables and jukeboxes that decorated this place.
‘I don’t get it, why would that make me important to him?’ You asked, looking at Johnny once more.
‘Well, most of the time, when you want to escape from something, you don’t bring the thing you’re running from with you. Donghyuck has never brought anyone here, not even Jaemin, and those two grew up together. So for him to bring you here, you must be something pretty damn special.’
You were speechless by the time Johnny had finished. You had been completely unaware of just how much Hyuck had cared for you. You weren’t even aware of the smile that was stretching across your face until Johnny chuckled.
‘I can see he’s special to you too.’
You looked back at him and nodded.
‘I...’ You swallowed slightly before speaking again. ‘I wasn’t expecting to care for someone this much.’
Johnny lifted up a hand, placing it on your shoulder and squeezing gently. You found the gesture surprisingly reassuring and you sent him a grateful smile.
‘For what it’s worth, you two make a good pair.’ Johnny said. ‘I’m glad he’s found someone he cares for this much.’
At the moment a laughing Donghyuck came bursting back through the kitchen doors, quickly followed by a slightly shorter male who you assumed was Taeil. Taeil looked up and saw you.
‘This is y/n?’ He asked Hyuck, who nodded in confirmation.
You stood up to greet him, placing your water on the counter as you did so.
‘It’s nice to meet you.’
‘You too, I’m Taeil.’ Taeil introduced himself, and you smiled at him.
Hyuck held up two boxes of ramen, the smell making your mouth water.
‘Shall we?’
---
You sat on the hood of Hyuck’s car and looked out over the skyline. The entire city was illuminated, the lights shining through the darkness and creating bright patterns in the night. You were mesmerised by the sight in front of you, the beauty of the twinkling lights demanding your attention.
The two of you were currently at the look out point which Hyuck had pointed out to you the day you had first met. It was a cliff edge that you could drive to, and it was only a couple of minutes away from the diner.
Your trip to the diner has been surprisingly entertaining. It was clear that Johnny and Taeil had known Hyuck and each other for a long time, but they made sure to welcome you and make sure that you felt comfortable. They wanted to know about the previous places you’d been to and any stories of your life or previous schools that you wanted to share. There was never an awkward moment, the three of them being so quick witted with their humour that you were in stitches the entire time. It felt as though you had spent the past half an hour laughing with old friends.
You didn’t know how long it had been since you’d felt an environment like that.
Hyuck was silently watching you, studying the reflection of the city lights in your eyes and wondering what was going through your mind. He eventually forced himself to tear his eyes away from you and back to the scenery in front of him. This view was normally the only that could set his mind at ease no matter what he was feeling, but after today, after seeing you interact so well with the friends he called his family, after seeing how beautiful you looked in his hoodie, how ethereal you were sat on his car in the moonlight... all Hyuck wanted to do was kiss you.
‘I’ve got to say, out of all the places I’ve lived, this is my favourite view.’ You softly broke the silence and Hyuck found his gaze wandering back towards you again.
‘Can I ask you something?’ He asked and you hummed in response. ‘How many places have you lived?’
You turned your head towards his and thought for a second.
‘Honestly... there’s been so many, I don’t think I could tell you the exact number.’ You told him. ‘I’ve moved around since I was a kid, we rarely stayed anywhere longer than one year before we headed to a new city which always seemed to be as far away from the previous one as you could possibly get. My dad’s job requires him to move wherever the company asks him to move, so we’ve never really had a choice. It’s nice, I guess, I get to see all these amazing places and travel so much already, but...’ You trailed off, unsure whether to continue.
‘But?’ Hyuck encouraged, looking at you with nothing but support in his eyes.
‘But it’s hard.’ You admitted. ‘People don’t really see how difficult it is. Everyone sees me as the lucky one, they tell me they wish they could travel like me, and see all the things I’ve seen. Someone even once told me that they wished they could only live in one place for one year before moving on, because then they wouldn’t have to worry about caring for anyone but themselves. Sometimes, for me, it really feels like that. But that it’s a good feeling. I’ve never lived anywhere longer than a year. I’ve even never lived anywhere long enough to call it home. I’ve never had a friendship, or relationship of any kind for that matter, that didn’t end a month after I moved away.’
‘You have your parents though, right?’ Hyuck asked, and you nodded in response.
‘Yeah, I have my dad. My mum, umm, she-’ You paused for a minute to take a breath. ‘She didn’t like the constant moving, she always said she found it too difficult. So, when I was nine, she decided she wasn’t going to move on with us. One night, she packed her bags, walked out the house and never came back. I haven’t seen her since.’ You confessed. You had never told anyone that, yet somehow, it felt safe to tell Hyuck.
‘I’m sorry.’ Hyuck offered and you sent him a smile.
‘It’s okay, it was a really long time ago.’ You tried to reassure him, even though you knew it wasn’t very convincing. ‘Moving like this... it’s a lot more lonely than you think it is.’
Hyuck moved himself slightly closer to you so that you were almost touching. He lifted his hand, and gently tucked your hair behind your ear before cradling your face.
‘You don’t have to be alone here. I’m going to be right beside you.’ He promised, the sincerity in his voice scaring you slightly. You knew that he meant it with every fibre of his being.
You didn’t know who leaned in first, nor did you care, but, either way, the two of you began to lean in. Your lips were almost touching when you stopped. Hyuck, noticing your movements, stopped immediately as well, his lips so close that his breath was gently fanning your face.
‘I’m leaving at the end of this year.’ You whispered, not moving away from him.
‘So we have two thirds of it left.’ Hyuck argued, his thumb gently stroking your face.
‘I’ll break your heart.’ Your voice was even softer than before, wavering slightly with emotion as your eyes fluttered shut.
‘It’ll be worth it.’ Hyuck whispered back, before you allowed him to finally close the distance.
He pressed his lips to yours, it was sweet, innocent and everything that a first kiss should be. You lifted up your hand to rest them on his wrists as he pulled away. He moved his hands away from your face and brought them down to your waist, pulling you closer and you wound yours around his neck.
You leant in again, this time kissing him with more passion. You were so overwhelmed with how much Hyuck cared for you, and how much you cared for him that all you wanted to do was show him, and this was the only way you knew you. Neither of you said it, but you both knew this was the start of your relationship, a secret kiss in a hidden place, with only the stars in the sky as your witnesses. And, honestly, it couldn’t be more perfect.
---
You closed the front door as quietly as you could, wincing as the lock audibly clicked into place. You briefly stopped to grab the note you had written for your dad before leaving and scrunched it up into a little ball before throwing it away. You then began to make your way through your house, tiptoeing silently past your dad’s room before making it into the safety of your own.
You fell into bed, pulling the covers up and smiling happily into them. No one had ever made you feel this way, and you couldn’t imagine ever feeling this way about anyone else.
There was something about Hyuck that made you want to just do things. Not in a “throw caution to the wind and cause chaos” kind of way, but in a motivational kind of way. He made you want to work harder, to fight for what you want, to always give people a chance to see the real them, to say yes more.
You couldn’t imagine what your life would be like if you hadn’t followed him out of the window on the first day. And if you could do it all again, you knew, you wouldn’t change a thing. You pulled the sleeves of Hyuck’s hoodie down over your fingers as you found yourself, once again, comforted by his scent.
It was only then that you realised you had forgotten to give it back, quickly reaching for your phone to text him.
You: i still have your hoodie
Hyuck: keep it for now
Hyuck: you can give it back to me at school on monday
Hyuck: or you can wear it
Hyuck: actually no
Hyuck: please wear it
You: i promise
You: night hyuck x
Hyuck: night
Hyuck: sleep well <3
---
You had kept your promise to Hyuck, wearing his hoodie into school and you were blown away by the amount of attention it had gathered. You would have thought that people would have more interesting things to talk about, but the main conversation topic in the corridors for the past week, was yours and Hyuck’s relationship.
Today was the Wednesday of the week after that Monday. You had a single lecture in the afternoon, while Hyuck was stuck in school until the end of the day. You had never been happier to hear the bell ring, signalling your escape from the most painfully boring Chemistry lecture of your life. You exited the classroom, laughing with Hyunjin as you complained about the hell you had just been put through.
He waved you a friendly goodbye, one which you returned before you walked towards your locker. You placed your books inside it and closed the door, making sure to lock it shut. You turned around, almost jumping out of your skin when you spotted three girls waiting for you to finish.
‘Can I help you?’ You asked, confused beyond belief as to why they were silently standing by your locker.
The one in the middle spoke first.
‘We just want to look out for you honey. Haechan is bad news, and we don’t want you to get hurt.’
You frowned at them in disbelief, wondering why on earth they were telling you this. You had never even seen any of them around Hyuck before.
‘Yeah, he’s a bad boy for a reason and we’re just worried that you're blinded by his charms. We’ve all fallen for it at some point, and we don’t want you to get manipulated like the rest of us.’ The brunette on the left piped up as you rolled your eyes.
‘Ok, this is very.... weird. Also, it’s not really any of your business, so thanks for your concern, but I’m fine by myself.’ You picked your bag up from the floor, swinging it over your shoulder.
As if a switch had been pressed, the expressions on the girls faces changed in a flash. Gone were the sympathetic looks and wide eyes as judgemental gazes and cocky smirks replaced them.
‘I don’t know who you think you are, but you’re not the golden girl. You’re not the exception to the rule, the one who’s going to be able to change him, so stop trying. You’re not that special. You’re wasting your time and you’re going to end up with a broken heart.’ The one of the right spat, surprising you with her sudden change of tone.
‘She’s right.’ The middle one took charge again. ‘He’s nothing more than a cigarette puffing, selfish asshole. Just remember, we’ll be here when it all goes to shit.’
They began to strut their way down the corridor, leaving a very confused you standing by your locker.
‘Y/n?’ A voice suddenly rang out. You turned towards the sound to see Jaemin coming towards you. ‘What was that all about?’
---
You sat next to Jaemin on a bench at the nearby park. You dragged him down the river to find a deserted area, before sitting down to explain what had happened. Jaemin had insisted that you talk him through it, not wanting you to feel alone.
‘-so they reassured me that it was going to fail, no matter what.’ You finished, staring at the river in front of you.
Jaemin didn’t respond for a minute, just watched you as you finished speaking. Eventually, he broke the silence between the two of you.
‘You know, something that comes with having a reputation like Hyuck’s, is that everyone puts their own spin on it. Everybody likes to come up with new things that he’s done or find a rumour that sounds like him and spread it. He’s been ignoring it for god knows how long, but that doesn’t stop it from happening. I’m not going to tell you how to feel, that’s not my job. However, I am going to tell you this.’
Jaemin readjusted his seating, moving so that he was facing you more. You mimicked him, turning your side towards the water.
‘Hyuck is brave, and self assured, and confident, and cocky, but, just like everybody else, he has his weakness. And for him, it’s love. He’s completely terrified of falling in love. When Hyuck slept around last year, he didn’t do it just cause he wanted sex, or cause it was a confidence boost to get those girls. He did it because he wanted company, because he was lonely. But, he could never let it be for longer than one night because then he was putting himself at risk.’
‘At risk of what?’ You asked, and Jaemin sighed before continuing.
‘Of getting attached, of catching feelings, of being vulnerable, of caring. Hyuck’s afraid of falling in love with someone because, if he does that, then there’s no turning back. He’s at their mercy, and no one will have the power over him that that person does. And that terrifies him.’
You nodded as Jaemin spoke, taking in every detail. When he finished you leaned back on the bench, this time staring up at the clouds as they passed. Jaemin had made a lot of sense and, although you would never admit it, you did understand his fear of being in love.
‘I care about him.’ You began as Jaemin looked back towards you. ‘I care about him a lot. But there’s this part of my brain that’s telling me he’s got a reputation for a reason. That this only has one ending and I’m kidding myself if I think I’m any different from the previous girls.’
‘You’re kidding yourself if you think you’re anything like them.’ Jaemin huffed. ‘And, if you’re going to think like that, if that’s going to dominate your mind, then honestly, you should spare Hyuck the pain. After everything, he deserves to actually have someone who loves him, not someone who doubts him. If you can’t see past his reputation, then it’s not fair to string him along.’
You could tell from Jaemin’s eyes that he meant every word. As soon as he said that, it was like a cloud had been lifted, clearing your vision. You leant forward, forcing him to look at you while you spoke truthfully.
‘I’m not going to judge him on his reputation. I don’t want to. I care about him, and that’s all that matters. And I don’t care about what other people think about him, because I know him.’
Jaemin nodded at you, a smile forming on his face.
‘Good.’ He looked down at his watch. ‘Aren’t you supposed to be meeting him at yours tonight?’ He asked, looking back up at you.
You pulled out your phone, checking the time and your eyes widened. You and Jaemin had spoken for a lot longer than you had thought, and at this rate, Hyuck was going to beat you back to your house. You stood up, thanking Jaemin before giving him a quick hug and running home to Hyuck.
---
One takeaway, four movies and three deep conversations later, Hyuck had fallen asleep. You quietly closed your laptop, placing it on the floor as you climbed out of your bed. You picked up the food containers, carrying them downstairs to the kitchen as you cleaned up slightly.
You dropped the takeaway boxes into the bin, before washing your hands. You thought for a second before grabbing two glasses, which you filled up with water and made your way back to your bedroom.
When you arrived, you spent a short amount of time standing in the doorway and just watched Hyuck sleep. He looked so angelic when he slept, all the stress and worries of the day melted off his features. You placed the water next to your side, moving around the bed to place the second one next to him.
You stepped forward, lightly grabbing the blanket and pulling it up to cover him with it. You lifted up a hand, placing it in his hair and you gently stroked it. He let out a contented hum in his sleep and you smiled down at him. You removed your hand, replacing it with your lips for a soft kiss on his temple and then proceeded to stand up and move around to your side of the bed.
You lifted up the covers and climbed in. Hyuck, as if sensing the sudden weight, rolled over, his arm finding its way around your waist before you had even laid down properly. His other one snuck underneath you, unnoticed by you until you lay down and found your head resting on it. Hyuck tightened his grip, pulling you close into his chest as you were surrounded by his embrace.
As much as you loved sleeping in his hoodies, this was by far the better option. You rested one hand on his chest, the other one winding around his waist and you curled up as close to him as you could.
You shut your eyes, letting your mind drift back to the conversation you had with Jaemin earlier, and the unprovoked attack from the girls in the hallway, and, easily, you came to one very solid conclusion.
The girls in the hallway may have been talking about Haechan, the rumours, the past mistakes and the persona, but you knew Donghyuck. You knew the boy that would stay up until 2am watching movies and chatting with you about life because you couldn’t sleep. You knew the boy that pulled you closer to him, even when he was fast asleep. You knew the real Donghyuck, and you were getting very scared that you were falling in love with him.
---
Time started to pass faster and, before you knew it, another month had passed. Your father had met Hyuck officially as your boyfriend and loved him. You had met Hyuck’s parents too, thankfully getting on their good sides even though they weren’t around much. You had managed to convince Hyuck to quit smoking, something that he had found surprisingly easy. Any time you asked how he did it, he’d claim that you were more addictive than any cigarette ever could be and give you a sweet kiss. Hyuck had been the perfect boyfriend to you, caring, fun, teasing and through it all, he still felt like your best friend.
You were preparing to head off and see him today. You grabbed your phone and keys before leaving your room and jogging down the stairs. You landed gently at the bottom and began to head straight for the door when you heard your father’s voice.
‘Y/n? Will you come in here for a minute sweetheart?’
You followed his voice into his study to find his standing by his desk, his phone in his hand.
‘Dad? Is everything okay? I’m meeting Hyuck in like ten minutes so I can’t be long.’ You said, checking your phone for the time.
Your father turned around to face you, leaning backwards so that he was sitting on the desk behind him.
‘Yes of course! Sorry, I’ll try to make it quick. Would you be happy to stay here for a bit longer than normal?’ He asked, getting straight to the point since he knew you had places to be.
‘Like this town?’ You wondered and your father nodded.
‘Yes, right here. In the same town and same house. Would you be okay with staying here for longer?’ You father spoke, this time raising his eyebrows in question.
‘How much longer?’ You asked, remaining suspicious and skeptical so that you didn’t get your hopes up.
‘Well, I’ve been offered a permanent position here, and I accepted it. So as long as you like.’ You jaw dropped at his words, unable to process what he was saying.
‘No more moving?’ You asked him.
‘No more moving.’ He confirmed and you burst out into a happy laugh, running forwards to hug him.
‘Oh my god, Dad that’s amazing! I’m so happy for you!’ You gushed, pulling out of the hug to see his smiling face.
‘So you’re happy to stay here?’ He asked and you grinned back at him.
‘I think I’d be okay with that.’
---
You made your way through Hyuck’s house, stopping only to briefly wave at his parents, before arriving at his room. You could hear him talking inside, so you entered as quietly as you could. He turned around as you entered, smiling and coming towards you to place a soft kiss on your cheek before turning his attention back to his phone call. The smile hadn’t left your face since your dad had told you his news, and you couldn’t wait to tell Hyuck.
He walked towards his window while talking, clearly attempting to wrap up the conversation without being overly rude. You approached his desk, chuckling at the piles of papers and discarded assignments that lay on it. Hyuck never was one for keeping things neat. You tilted your head slightly as one piece in particular caught your eye.
You reached for it, pulling it out from the bottom of the pile and scanned the words, your heart sinking as you did. The title as the top stood out the most: “the to-DO list”.
As you read further and further down the page you saw name after name of different girls in the school, and next to them were a short list of pros and cons, and the number of points they were worth. There were even lines though some of the names with ticks next to them, which you could only assume meant that they were checked off.
You recognised Siyeon and Momo’s names, neither of them having a cross through, but you also recognised the names of the “Welcoming Committee”. They were the same girls who cornered you in the corridor to warn you about Hyuck, and you ignored them. All three of their names were on the list, and all three of them had lines through them.
When your eyes reached the bottom of the page, your heart stopped. You forgot how to breath and you felt as though time suddenly stood still. You stared at the final name, the latest addition to the list that had the highest points and a bright red line through it.
Y/n Y/l/n - 150 points
Pros: new kid, gullible, not around for long, won’t stay to cause you trouble
Cons: defensive, needs effort to be worn down, not as easy as previously assumed
You stared at your name, the tears that filled your eyes blurring it slightly, but not making it any less real. This was a game. Hyuck and his friends were playing a game about who could get the most of the girls. You were just a target to him, something to tick off his list. And he had.
You registered Hyuck hanging up the phone and you furiously blinked away your tears.
‘Sorry about that. I was trying to-’ Hyuck stopped talking mid-sentence, his phone falling from his grip in shock when you turned around with the list in your hand. His eyes shot from the paper to you again, but one look at your face told him everything he needed to know.
‘What’s this?’ You whispered, holding up the piece of paper for him to see.
You watched as Hyuck’s jaw dropped and fear and panic took over his features. His mouth opened and closed repeatedly like a fish out of water.
‘What is this?’ You asked again, articulating every word. ‘Please tell me it’s not what I think it is. Tell me that this isn’t some sick game, that- that I’m just some game to you.’
You watched as Hyuck struggled to form a reply, obviously lost for words at what was happening.
‘I swear to god Hyuck, you better tell me the truth right now or I am gonna walk out of that door and I am not coming back.’ You kept your head up, refusing to let him see how affected by this you were more than he already had.
‘Tell me!’ You shouted, your temper flaring as your patience ran thin.
That seemed to finally get through to Hyuck, his eyes snapped towards your face as he stuttered out some weak reply.
‘No- no- no it’s -it’s not what you... No y/n I don’t... I can’t explain it I just-’ Hyuck looked at you, his eyes full of desperation but you couldn’t find it in you to feel sympathy for him.
You let out an empty laugh, one of pure disbelief at your own foolishness. You couldn’t believe that you really thought you were important to him. It’s Lee Donghyuck for Christ’s sake. He has a reputation for a reason. What made you think you were special enough to break that?
You swallowed, lifting your eyes to Hyuck’s once more and realised that you didn’t know a thing about the boy who stood before you. You opened your mouth and, with a shaky voice, you spoke.
‘You know, I was told by so many people that I wasn’t the exception to the rule, I wasn’t the golden girl, I- I wasn’t the one who could change your ways or prove that you were more than just a cigarette puffing, leather jacket wearing, selfish ass hole. But, god... I really hoped I was. And for a minute there, I actually believed it... you actually let me believe it. Maybe that’s why this hurts so much.’
‘Y/n please-’ He began, reaching out for you with one arm but stopped cold at your next words.
‘Save it, Haechan.’ Your use of Haechan instead of Hyuck struck Donghyuck right to his core. You hadn’t called him Haechan in the two months since he’d given you permission to use Hyuck, instead taking pride in the fact that you were close to him to not only call him by his real name, but by his nickname. When you used Haechan, he felt as though someone had picked up a blade of ice and driven it straight into his heart.
He had no idea why this was hurting him so bad. He knew from the moment he walked in and saw that look on your face that something was wrong. He never liked seeing you upset, but watching that door slam behind you, he never would have been able to presume that him being the cause of your upset would have been so heart wrenching.
There’s something about knowing that you’re the reason that the person you love most in the world is crying, that can rip a man’s heart in two. And for the first time in his life, Donghyuck began to experience what heartbreak was like.
---
You ran out of the door, tearing down the streets as fast as the tears were running down your face. You felt small, you felt ridiculous, you felt humiliated, you felt as though you were five years old again. And all you wanted to do was run away.
The irony was impossible to ignore. Your entire life, you had hated moving. Always leaving everyone behind, allowing them to forget you and forcing yourself to forget them. Every city, town or village you had lived in, you had wanted to stay, make friendships that would last a lifetime, fall in love, grow old in the same place you grew up, but you never could. Now for the first time in your life you were finally staying in one place, a place that you were supposed to call home, and yet, you wanted nothing more than to leave it.
---
‘Ok, I’m just going to say it. You’ve done a lot worse to a lot of other girls and you’ve never had this severe of a reaction before. Why now? What’s so special about this one that she’s the reason you’re suddenly experiencing the feeling of guilt?’ Jaemin leaned forwards towards his friend, hoping to finally get a solid answer out of him.
Jaemin had received an SOS text from Donghyuck and immediately moved to meet him at the local bar. He was currently sat across from the aforementioned, watching as his friend had a mini meltdown in front of him. This was the most emotional that Jaemin had seen Donghyuck in a while, and he knew that there was something about you that Donghyuck was refusing to admit.
‘I don’t know, but when I was standing there, looking at her face as these tears began to fall... all I wanted to do was to run up to her and wipe them away. To hold her and reassure her that... that I’m going to be the one to protect her from harm, not cause it, that I’m going to be the one who she’s safe with, the one who provides her comfort, the one who...’ Donghyuck trailed off at the end leaving Jaemin unable to catch what he was saying.
‘Alright, so here’s my next question: Why didn’t you?’ Jaemin raised an eyebrow at Donghyuck’s moping figure as his head shot up.
‘Why didn’t I what?’ Donghyuck questioned, too tired and emotionally worn out to actually think through what he was being asked.
Jaemin rolled his eyes so hard that he thinks he actually saw the one remaining braincell of his that had survived this conversation, the rest of them choosing to jump ship and abandon him.
‘Why didn’t you go elephant hunting? What do you think?! Why didn’t you do all those things you wanted to? Why didn’t you tell her how much she means to you?’
Donghyuck paused for a minute, thinking back to when he saw you standing there, completely vulnerable, with all your walls down for just him to see.
‘I was scared...’ He admitted, looking up at his friend slowly. ‘I’ve never felt like this before and I don’t know what it means to do this kind of stuff and be good at it. What if I told her the truth and she didn’t feel the same? What if I scared her away when I told her how I felt? I was scared that she wouldn’t want anything to do with me if I told her I loved her.’
Jaemin didn’t respond for a second, his mind taking it’s time to wrap around the fact that Donghyuck was in love. He knew that you meant more to Hyuck than he had ever let on, but Jaemin never would have expected for his friend to have fallen in love with you.
‘Donghyuck... I don’t think you’ll lose her if you tell her you love her. But I do think you may lose her if you don’t.’ Jaemin watched Donghyuck’s expression change as the realisation of the reality of Jaemin’s words dawned on him.
‘What do I do Jaemin?’ He asked, begging to know how to get you back.
‘Do what you couldn’t before.’ Jaemin told him. ‘Tell her the truth.’
---
You could feel all eyes on you as you walked through the main gates the following morning. It was the first time you had walked in by yourself, Haechan having insisted on driving you every morning he could, so this seemed to alert people that there was something wrong.
You held your head high and refused to let them see how emotional you were, biting the inside of your cheek anytime you could feel your eyes begin to water slightly. If it were up to you, you would have stayed at home today, choosing instead to drown yourself in chocolate and chick flicks, but, unfortunately, your dad was working from home so you had to come in.
You made your way towards your locker, unable to avoid making eye contact with a couple of people along the way. You accidentally caught eyes with the trio of girls who you had become all too familiar with from their welcome when you arrived and their more recent “friendly” advice by your locker.
‘Aww hun, we tried to warn you...’ They crowded you, one of them stroking your hair and all of them effectively drawing all the attention towards you once more. ‘We wanted to protect you from this...’
You tensed up, irritated and a little creeped out by the unwanted contact.
‘Fuck off!’ You spat, pushing them away from you. They stepped forwards again, obviously trying to paint themselves as your saviours in front of the rest of the school who were watching.
‘Sweetie, we just want to help! We knew this would happen and-’
You cut them off, speaking quietly at them through gritted teeth.
‘You don’t know shit about what happened. Stop pretending like you care about me and go back to whatever it is that you do, and leave me alone.’
With that, just like it had in the hallway, the fake smiles and false pretences melted off the three witches, as they rolled their eyes at you before strutting away. Gossiping just loud enough for you to hear.
‘If she actually thought that relationship was real she’s such an idiot.’
‘I know! I mean, it’s Haechan for crying out loud, is she dumb?’
You screwed your eyes shut, resting your forehead against your locker as everyone else began to disappear from around you. You took a deep breath, trying to calm yourself and opened your locker. An envelope fell out of it as the door opened, the white paper landing on your feet.
You looked down at it in confusion, bending down to pick it up. You turned it over and examined the messy handwriting on the front. You immediately recognised it at Haechan’s and your eyes flew back to your locker, scanning it to see if he had left anything else. Your gaze focused on a bar of chocolate, which you pulled out and examined.
You nodded in disbelief. Did he really think that a bar of chocolate and a letter would make up for all that happened? When he couldn’t even look you in the face and give it to you himself? You grabbed your books, slamming your locker shut out of anger. If Haechan actually wanted to make amends, he should stop being such a coward and have the courage to face you himself to say whatever he wanted to. You weren’t going to give him an easy way out.
Before you headed to your class you stopped briefly to dump the letter and chocolate in a nearby bin, unaware of Donghyuck’s teary eyes watching you as you did so.
---
You walked into the local bar, exhausted from the long day you had just had and desperate for a drink. The bar was a college bar, but it was famous amongst students to turning a blind eye towards seniors that may not be of legal drinking age yet.
That day, you had found flowers on your desk in History, your favourite coffee waiting for you at lunch and another letter and chocolate bar in your locker by the end of the day. By this point, you were fed up with it. Everyone had been pointing at you and watching you the entire day, trying to figure out what had happened, and these gifts were not helping to keep you away from everyone’s prying eyes.
All you wanted was to just sit at a booth by yourself and think for a minute before walking home. Unfortunately, life in the form of a slightly drunk baseball jock had other plans.
‘Hey there.’ He approached you, getting a bit too close for comfort.
‘Hi.’ You greeted politely, moving away from him slightly, an infuriated sigh falling from your lips when he followed you.
‘Don’t run from me. What do you say that you and I get out of here okay?’ He purred, his face coming closer to yours so that you could smell the alcohol on his breath. You pushed against his chest, the alcohol coursing through his system worsening his balance making him take a few steps back. ‘Feisty... I like that.’ He began to advance again, making you quickly speak up.
‘Okay first of all, I just want to get a drink. Second of all, why would I leave when I’ve just arrived? Third of all, why would I leave with you?’ You turned away from him, rolling your eyes as you did so.
However, the message didn’t seem to go through his thick skull, with him pushing himself right up against you, his hand dangerously low on your back and he whispered into your ear, making your skin crawl.
‘You’ll pay for that later sweetheart.’
‘Hey!’ A different voice cut through and before you could register what was going on, an arm had wound its way around your shoulder and successfully pulled you away from the creep. ‘Back off.’
‘What do you think you’re doing, Na?’ The baseball player asked, his eyes narrowing as he noticed Jaemin pulling you away from him.
‘Spending some time with my friend, now beat it beefcake.’ Jaemin kept one hand on you, moving his arm off your shoulder but staying close so that you were comfortable.
‘Well, get in line I saw her first.’ He leant forwards to grab you again, as if you were some kind of prize that he’d won.
‘She said no.’ Jaemin said calmly, watching as the jock’s face screwed up in frustration as he lunged for you again, hitting Jaemin’s free hand as he reached out to stop the drunk from touching you.
‘That doesn’t matter.’ He began to raise his voice, the alcohol in his system fuelling his idiotic actions.
‘Allow me to explain, and I’ll use small words so you’ll be sure to understand.’ You had to stop yourself from smiling slightly at Jaemin’s words, his sass never failed to make you laugh and the fact that a couple of people in the bar had turned their heads towards the commotion made it even better. There was now an audience to watch as Jaemin obliterated the drunk baseball player in front of you two. ‘No means no. I understand that may be hard for you to understand, having taken so many hits to the head, but welcome to the 21st century you warthog faced buffoon.’
With that he turned away, making sure to keep himself between you and that jerk and guided you towards an empty booth as the jock was escorted out of the bar for uncivil behaviour. He sat down across from you and quickly whipped out his phone asking if you wanted anything.
‘I was originally planning on just getting something that wasn’t too strong but after that little experience I think I’ll take a vodka coke, thanks.’ You breathed, enjoying the safety of the booth that you were sat in.
Jaemin simply nodded, tapping away on his phone before putting it back into his pocket.
‘What do I owe you?’ You asked, reaching for your own phone so that you could pull up your mobile banking but Jaemin shook his head.
‘Why don’t you just get the next round?’ He proposed and you nodded in agreement.
‘Sounds fair.’ You trailed off after that, silence falling over the two of you as you tried to figure out what to say.
‘Thank you...’ You began. ‘For stepping in like that, he wasn’t backing down and I don’t know what I would have done if you weren’t here.’ You were a little shaken up by it. Guys, especially drunk guys, had a tendency to be a bit gross and over comfortable but none of them had pursued and threatened you the way that guys had today.
‘Don’t mention it. He’s kinda famous for doing that kind of stuff, unfortunately people have just come to accept it. It’s fucked up.’ Jaemin chuckled. ‘People can get so used to seeing someone harass a woman that they begin to turn a blind eye.’
‘Yeah...’ You trailed off again, not sure how to respond.
Your drinks soon arrived, a waitress placing them down on the table in front of you. You reached out and grabbed the glass with your drink in as Jaemin picked up his. He lifted it to his lips and took a sip as you mirrored his actions with your own.
‘If you were meaning to catch Hyuck, he just left.’ Jaemin said suddenly, and you sent him a tight smile.
‘I wasn’t so don’t worry about it.’ You replied quickly, praying that this wouldn’t be the entirety of your conversation.
‘He misses you, you know?’ Jaemin continued softly, watching your face for any kind of reaction as you sighed.
‘Does he now?’ You muttered, staring into the dark brown drink in your hands.
‘Yes, y/n, he does.’ The certainty and clear frustration in Jaemin’s voice made you lift your eyes up to stare at him. ‘I’ve known Hyuck a long time and there’s something about you that’s stopped him in his tracks. He cares for you.’
‘He’ll move on. He always does, doesn't he? Soon he’ll stop wasting his money on the flowers or food and find his next girl to conquer. Don’t get mad at me for figuring out what was going on before he got the chance to pull the rug out from underneath my feet.’ You argued, slightly fed up that this was the only thing you could take about. You and Jaemin had always got along well so it upset and infuriated you that you had lost that relationship too.
Then Jaemin spoke again, this time the words that fell from his lips hitting you like a truck.
'Look, the list was never Hyuck’s idea to begin with, in fact he was really against it. The day you found it was the same day where he called our group to let them know that he was burning it, “it can only cause pain” were his words. The names that were crossed, weren’t crossed off by him. This old friend of ours, someone who we don’t speak to anymore after this, he heard about your relationship and gave Hyuck the list when he came back into town. Hyuck never wanted it, he never even looked at it once since he was given it, and he certainly didn’t care about it or use you just to cross your name off it. And the fact that you think that... y/n it’s killing him.’ He leant forwards as you averted your gaze, and forced you to look him in the eyes again. ‘Y/n, I've seen him work very hard to get girls and I've seen him work very hard to get rid of girls. I've never seen him work this hard to keep one around.’
And with that Jaemin stood, leaving the drink he barely touched sitting on the surface in front of you. You stared at it, not bothering to watch the boy leave as his last words swirled around in your head.
‘I’ve never seen him work this hard to keep one around.’
---
You stepped outside, shutting your front door behind you. You had arrived home from the bar to an empty house and having not felt like cooking, you decided to get a takeout. However, the one place you were really craving was only doing pickup so you had to walk there to order and get it. You pushed on the door, checking it was locked and then turned around, only to stop dead in your tracks when you found yourself face to face with Haechan.
The two of you just stared at each other, you refusing to speak first and, even though Haechan had practiced what he was going to say about a million times on the way over, all words had now left his mind. Eventually you just gave him a tight lipped smile and a nod and made to walk past him.
‘Wait! Y/n wait, please!’ Haechan called out and you slowed to a stop, lifting your eyes up to look at him once more. ‘I, um... I owe you an explanation.’
‘Really Haechan, you don’t have to it's pretty clear what was going on. It’s chill, we’re done and that’s fine. I’m just gonna do my thing and move on like I’d always planned and-’ You shrugged before getting cut off.
‘For the love of god y/n, would you please stop acting like everything’s fine and start dealing with your crap!’ Haechan snapped, causing you to look at him in shock. ‘Look, I’m sorry I snapped but... God, you don’t have to always pretend like it isn’t a big deal. You’re allowed to be upset about things. I hurt you, I know I did. You trusted me, confided in me, cared for me and I threw it all away, and it’s okay to be hurt by that. I’m not saying that I want you to feel hurt, obviously, but... not every has to mean nothing to you.’ Haechan was pretty much mumbling by the end of it, furious with himself for shouting at you when he was here to apologise.
‘Nothing? You think what happened meant nothing to me?’ You asked in disbelief. ‘Hyuck, when I saw that list, it was like everything I had ever thought, every reason I had ever had for keeping my walls up was proved true. I know it may seem like a small deal to some people, but it isn’t to me. It isn’t, okay? You lied to me, manipulated me for weeks, months even, and I feel like such an idiot. And don’t you dare think for one second that you mean nothing to me because the reason it hurt so much is because it was you. Nobody else has the power to hurt me and heal me like you do. And I keep my guard up, I keep my walls up, even when I’m upset, especially when I’m upset, because I don’t want someone to know what power they have over me. Because... if they see how much I care about them, how much I love them, what’s stopping them from using that against me? Once someone knows about it, I don’t have control over it anymore. Once someone knows about it, my heart is completely in the hands of, and at the mercy of, the person I love.’ You ranted, the tears in your eyes gathering rapidly as you tried with everything you could to blink them away. You never told people the truth about how you felt, scared about how they would react to the real you. In fact, telling Hyuck this was terrifying.
Hyuck stared at you with wide eyes, his expression, for once, was unreadable.
‘Love?’ He asked, hope reaching out across his face as you finally managed to get a read on him.
You swallowed, the fear that you had previously been trying to explain began to bubble up as you forced it back down.
‘Yes Hyuck, love...’
‘You’re calling me Hyuck...’ He pointed out, his voice just as soft as yours.
‘I guess I am.’
‘Do you love me?’
Your eyes shot up at his question, leaving their previous view of the tarmac of your drive and instead settling on Donghyuck’s brown eyes, ones that were currently glistening with tears.
‘Does it matter?’ You whispered. ‘It’s not going to change anything. It all still happened.’
‘But it didn’t! Well, it did, but I never wanted it to happen in the first place. I never wanted anything to do with that stupid list! I told him it would only hurt people and now I’ve gone and hurt the one person that I truly love and it’s not fair!’ Your eyes widened at his words, unable to process that fact that he just said love. Hyuck began to wind his hands through his hair as he continued his angry rant that wasn’t really directed at you but rather anyone who would listen. ‘I burnt it. I burnt the fucking list but it was too late and now it’s all a mess and it’s my fault cause I should have burnt it when I first got it. I never even scratched a name off, I’ve only spent time with you this year and I only ever wanted to and I want only you now and I’m not making sense anymore and-’
‘Hyuck!’ You interrupted, stopping him mid rant as his words began to turn to nonsense. His innocent doe eyes looked into yours and you refused to break eye contact. ‘Love?’ You asked, repeating Hyuck’s question from before.
You wanted as his demeanour completely changed. He forced some air into his lungs, dropping his shoulders as he took a deep breath. He lifted his head and locked eyes with you for the thousandth time that night, yet this felt very different. There was something in his gaze that held you captive, even if you had wanted to look away, you wouldn’t have been able to. Your eyes never left his, even as he began to speak and you saw the truth in his words through his sincere expression.
‘I’m not good at this. This kind of moment, this conversation where I admit how I’ve been feeling this entire time. I’m good with music, I’m good with food, I’m good with jokes and making people laugh, but... I’m really bad when it comes to looking someone in the eye and telling them how I feel. Especially if that means letting my walls down. I’m not here to tell you that I’m falling in love with you. I’m here to tell you that... I’ve already fallen. And I was terrified of falling for you, because it was so easy. The way you always remember my coffee order, or the way you drape a blanket over me when I fall asleep on the sofa, or the way that you made me care more about my life, about who I am and how I impact others. Loving you was so easy and that’s why it was so god damn terrifying. Because I couldn’t stop myself. No matter how hard I try, I can’t stop myself from being in love with you. I am utterly, hopelessly, irretrievably in love with you. More than you’ll ever know. And for the first time in my life, that doesn’t sound so scary.’
By this point, the tears that had been previously threatening to fall were now steadily making their way down his face. You knew that you looked no better, your vision was blurry and your throat was tight. He refused to look away from you, not even to wipe the tears from his face, instead, he kept talking.
‘And I know that this doesn’t change anything. You’re still leaving at the end of this year, but that’s just over seven months away. And, even though I know how it’s going to end, I want those seven months with you. I do. I want them more than anything. And I will do anything it takes to earn your trust back.’
There wasn’t a single speck of doubt in your body that Hyuck was telling the truth. This wasn’t Haechan speaking, this was Donghyuck, vulnerable, emotional and broken Donghyuck talking to you from his heart, begging for your forgiveness and understanding. You found it impossible to tear your gaze away from him, your eyes glued to his as you tried to come to a conclusion in your mind.
No matter how many times the irrational part of your brain tried to convince you this was all a trick, some elaborate scheme that will end up with you getting your heart broken, you couldn’t hear it. It was outweighed by the sheer volume of every atom, every fibre of your being screaming out for the boy you loved, for Donghyuck.
‘Hyuck, I love you... But I don’t want you to have only seven months with me.’ You began. Donghyuck’s face quickly fell, as if accepting defeat and he sadly nodded. ‘I want you to have more than that. And I know that it doesn’t seem possible, because I’m moving, but, what if I wasn’t...’ You trailed off as Hyuck’s eyes filled with hope.
‘What are you saying?’ He asked, his lips twitching as he fought back a grin. He had never wanted anything more than he wanted you to be saying what he thought you were saying.
‘I’m saying, my dad got offered a permanent position here, and he took it. I’m not moving. I’m staying here, in the only place on earth I want to stay. Because, here, I get to be with you.’ You revealed.
A second passed as the revelation sank in and Donghyuck’s face split into the biggest smile you had ever seen on him. He rushed forwards towards you, his arms making their way around your waist as your bodies crashed into each other. You wound your arms around his neck, dropping your head into his shoulder and feeling him do the same. You breathed in, savouring the feeling of being wrapped in his embrace, the place you had missed so much.
Hyuck eventually lifted his head out of your neck, looking you deep in the eyes before he leant his forehead on yours and breathed out a soft:
‘I’ve missed you.’
You couldn’t stop the smile that grew on your face, nor could you stop your reply.
‘I missed you too.’
You pulled your forehead away from his, watching as his gaze flickered down to your lips and back up again, a questioning look in his eyes. You nodded, giving permission and Hyuck wasted no time in pressing his lips to yours.
You could have sworn fireworks went off. You had never understood that saying until that very moment, but right there, you felt an explosion of love that you hadn’t known was possible. You pressed yourself into him as his arms pulled you as close as possible until there wasn’t any space between your bodies.
You both pulled away to catch your breath, yet neither of you moved away from the other at all. You stayed just as close as you had been, with Hyuck’s arms never loosening from around your waist. He couldn’t stop himself from laughing slightly, pressing a kiss to your forehead.
‘I love you.’ He laughed, provoking a chuckle out of you too.
‘I love you more.’ You replied, grinning up at him as he raised an eyebrow at you.
‘Not possible.’ He answered back, his voice softening as he leant down to kiss you once more.
Hyuck kissed you again, and again, and again. He kissed you throughout the whole night, only stopping to whisper confessions of his love or to attempt to pull you closer to him than you already were. He came with you to pick up some takeout, he also insisted on paying, but even when waiting for the food, he held you tightly in a back hug.
He pulled your legs over his on the sofa at yours as he fed you your takeout while you watched a movie together. And he kept his tight grip on you as you went to sleep, tangled up together like vines, so intertwined that it seemed impossible to pull them apart.
Hyuck never ended up telling you why he held you so tightly that night. In his defence, you never really asked, and, as much as Hyuck allowed himself to be vulnerable and honest around you, this was something that he kept as his own little secret. As his own little confession. Whenever Hyuck was struggling, he just thought back to this night and how amazing it felt to finally have the girl he loved wrapped in his arms, with the knowledge that she will still be there when he wakes up.
He had finally found someone who he loved and would do anything for, and he never wanted to let you go.
---
Not even one month later, it was the Winter Formal. The school had decided to put a monumental amount of effort into it, hiring out a local ballroom and turning it into a winter wonderland, complete with fake snow, white trees, gentle lighting and sparkly white silk hanging around the room. You would be lying if you said that your breath wasn’t completely taken away when you walked in.
Yet none of it compared to the feeling of walking in with Hyuck on your arm.
Hyuck had surprised, not only you, but the entire school it seemed when he walked in with a smart suit on, a white flower in the pocket and green tie neatly around his neck. It seemed as though all eyes were on the two of you when you entered the hall, and you were sure that Hyuck’s look was something to do with it.
Of course he disagreed. He insisted that it was all to do with the green gown that you were wearing, claiming the way it hugged your figure in all the right places and the slit in the thigh made you look like a dream. Walking out of your house to meet Hyuck and seeing his jaw literally drop was a major confidence boost. That boy knew how to make you feel good about yourself.
You met your friends at the dance, and not even two minutes after arriving, were immediately pulled onto the dance floor by Jaemin.
‘You guys look good!’ He commented, flashing you his million dollar smile. ‘Probably the best out of everyone here. ’
‘Well we thought it was best to make an impression.’ You shrugged, grinning back at him.
Just as Hyuck opened his mouth to reply, your maths professor walked past, unable to stop himself from commenting.
‘Nice to see you finally put some effort into your appearance Haechan.’
‘Thank you sir. You too!’ Hyuck replied cheekily, before turning back to the two of you with a confused look on his face.
‘Was it just me or was that a little bit weird?’ He asked the two of you.
‘Just a bit, yeah!’ You replied, laughing as Jaemin agreed with you.
The music began to slow down and Jaemin, not wanting to get stuck in the masses of couples who were taking to the dance floor, said a quick goodbye before moving away.
Hyuck gently grabbed your hand with his, wrapping his other hand securely around your waist and pulled you in close to him. You rested your free hand on his shoulder and gently began to sway to the music.
The whole scene felt like something out of a movie. The soft lights were gently shining down on the two of you, making you feel as though you were the only two people there as the atmosphere surrounded you, enclosing you in your own little bubble. You found yourself getting lost in Hyuck’s eyes as the music faded slowly into the background, the sound of your heart beating for the boy in front of you overpowering everything else.
There really was nothing that you wouldn’t do for Hyuck. And, no matter what people told you, no matter what rumours you hear, you knew that you knew him. The real him. Not Haechan, not the bad boy cliche image that he puts up everyday, not everyone else’s perception of him as the kid who didn’t give a damn about anyone or anything. You knew Hyuck for who he truly was, all the good, the bad and the ugly. You had seen him at his highs and his lows, you trusted him with your heart and you knew he would never break it.
After all these years of moving and leaving things behind, you had finally found somewhere you could call home. Only it wasn’t a place. It was a person. And you knew that, as long as he was looking down at you with that much love in his eyes, you wouldn’t need any other home ever again.
Maybe senior year wasn’t just the best year of your life as everybody says it is, but also the beginning of the rest of it.

A/N: This is another teaser for Recall, and that’s really all I can say about that. Sorry I’m being so vague when it comes to this story, but hopefully when it’s finished you will understand why that had to be the case. Anywho- this also takes care of Day 10 from the September Prompt list.
Catch up on the first teaser for Recall here- Classified.
Prompt: Wildflowers
Warnings: discussion of injury, death, loss, trauma, pain, needles, this is angsty 😬
WC: 1.3k
Like always, it started with an apology.
“I’m sorry to have to do this to you, Jack.”
Before he had time to ask what it was that called for preemptive contrition, the lab coated tech thrust an old polaroid photo into his hand, the top edge slightly bent. Who is… A beautiful young woman with long dark hair hanging over her shoulders in waves and big, bright eyes smiled up at him. “Who’s this pretty lady?” And where is she, ‘cause I’d like to-
The tech swallowed hard and blurted out an answer, face still contorted in remorse. “She’s dead, Jack.”
Like always, it knocked the air from his lungs.
Images spun through his mind like bullets in the chamber of his pistol, things clicking painfully into place in his memory. Click, click- A file full of classified documents. Click, click- A searing sensation at his temple and the deafening crack of a gunshot. Click- A solo mission gone sideways, a flash of wild electric blue and the feeling of being too late. Click, click, click- A female voice, familiar and soft. Click- “Hi honey…” Click, click- A deep ache, shredding through his chest to leave him empty. Click, click, click- He sucked a breath in as the onslaught came to an end, eyes screwed so tightly shut he could see spots floating through the darkness. Click.
My wife. My...she’s… Pressing a palm to his forehead, he steadied himself and opened his eyes, glancing down at the picture pinched between his shaking fingers. The love of my life. Bringing it to his lips, he pressed them against the glossy surface. She’s gone. When he looked back up at the tech, his confusion had cleared, though the hollowness in his heart remained. They killed her.
“Welcome back, Agent Whiskey.”
Like always, the tech would release a sigh of relief, glad to know that the process had worked.
Resets were never easy for anyone involved. Even though the Alpha-Gel was a revolutionary advancement in medicine, and the nanite technology used in the lab was essentially fool proof when it came to repairing brain damage, restoring memory- and therefore restoring an agent’s training, all of the classified information they had knowledge to, any enemy intelligence they may have secured- was never entirely guaranteed even if everything went the way it was supposed to. There was always the chance that a reset would take longer than expected to kickstart, always the chance that it wouldn’t take at all or that it would misfire, making the agent violent and unpredictable.
Each operative had their own personal trigger, something that they could identify with so strongly that no matter how much brain damage they had incurred in the field, they would remember exactly who they were and all of the choices that they made and things that had happened to them leading up to the split second that their injury had occurred. For some agents it was something as simple as engaging them in a hobby or pastime that they were particularly fond of. For others it was a song or an article of clothing, something that only they would be able to use as an anchor in reality.
For Agent Whiskey, it was the last photo he’d taken of his wife. His pregnant wife.
There was nothing else even remotely as strong, nothing else that would serve as a better tether to his old life, a better reminder of why he had become a Statesman agent to begin with, than that photo- nothing stronger than his love for her. In the aftermath of her untimely death he had sunken to the absolute lowest point in his life. He had known the most pure and true love, had devoted himself to his family, and had suffered the most extreme loss that any man could endure when he’d had it all ripped from his hands. There was not a single thing, high or low, that had been more impactful in his life.
“I’m sorry sir, she was just in the wrong place at the wrong time.”
There had been an apology then, too, when the police officers who had arrived at the scene relayed the news to him. When they sat him down and explained to him that his wife had gone out to the store and that on her way, she’d become an unfortunate victim of a drug-related shooting. He was told that she was caught in the crossfire, that she’d been killed instantly; she and their unborn child.
My little boy.
Welcome back, indeed. Welcome back to reliving everything you’ve lost, Jack Daniels. Welcome back to all the hurt and the guilt, the hate and the rage, the heartache and the longing that will never, ever go away. Welcome back, Senior Agent Whiskey, time to do your job.
Jack handed the photo back then, watching as the tech who had handed it to him slipped it back into the folder it had been pulled from. His stomach turned, a bitter taste coating his tongue as he got the distinct feeling that this had all happened before, and that it would happen again. But that’s what I signed up for with all’a this. He brought two fingers up to the side of his head where in his restored memory he’d felt the burning bite of a gunshot, feeling the cushion of an adhesively applied bandage. Headshots and all. He listened to the tech as they told him where to go for his debriefing, when to return for a checkup on his cognition, and how long protocol dictated he would be sidelined for.
Two days. A bullet to the brain, his vital organs all forced into stasis, his memory entirely restored and his heart re-broken. All of that had bought him two days of rest, and almost immediately as he left the medical facility at headquarters, an idea formed in his mind that only grew more solid with every step he took.
He wanted something other than the photo in his file to remember his wife by, something that he could carry with him at all times. Something that was as much a part of him as she was, she and the son he never got to meet.
Jack Daniels never pictured himself with tattoos, and he doubted that he would be adding any more after this one, but as he walked into the shop and laid down on the bench, he knew that he was making the right choice. In addition to the blitz of images that had rushed through his memory when he focused on his trigger photo, there had been a word repeated in the background.
Aster.
Her favorite flower. Wild and free. Symbolic of lifelong devotion.
The needle buzzed as the artist brought her latex gloved hand to his chest. “Sorry if this hurts,” she said, pausing before she touched the device to his skin, “though you look pretty tough, cowboy.”
“S’alright if it does, sugar,” he told her, resting one arm behind his head. “Let’r rip.”
She nodded and within seconds Jack felt the scratch of the needle as it made contact, pushing black ink into his skin. A mirror had been set up so that he could watch the process, and Jack never took his eyes off of the place where she worked in silence until she finally swiped her cloth over it one more time, revealing a cluster of three asters- one for his wife, one for his son, and one for the man he never got to be for either of them.
“So?” The artist sat back as he inspected her work. “What’da you think?”
He tracked a single drop of blood as it mingled with excess ink, trickling down the black and gray stems of the flowers and cleared his throat. “S’perfect.”
.. .. .. ..
“Sorry, you don’t have to tell me if you don’t want to, Jack, that’s a really personal question and I-”
He grabbed your hand and placed it over the long healed tattoo on his chest. “No,” he said, flattening your palm over the blossoms. “I...I do wanna tell you.” He licked his lips and sighed out your name as he felt your body relax into his own. “I wanna tell you everything.”
.

Thank you for reading! Again, this is just a teaser for the Whiskey i’m distilling so if you have any questions or you would like to be tagged in this one, please let me know!

Prince Protection Program AU
The response to the last post has been amazing. Thanks guys. I don’t plan on making a full on story ( I did at one point, but I have a lot of WIPs to work on), but I still have some riffs to unleash. This is my take on the boys’ life pre-PPP. Enjoy!
(Also changed the name of Reggie’s kingdom and swapped it for Luke’s btw)
Link to first post and artwork
Palace life sucked ass.
Usually Lukas would experience that brief split-second of bliss waking up in the morning, where he would blink against the Mediterranean sun seeping through the cracks in his curtains, the feeling of his body cocooned in silk sheets hitting him first and not the fact that he was the Crowned Prince of Solaria.
But after that, it all came crashing down on him in the form of knocking on his door, followed by the more forceful opening of his door, and the filing in of his guardian.
“Ugh,” the prince rolled around, stuffing his head under a pillow, “Five… minutes…”
“I’m afraid that’s not possible,” James stalked over, tugging the covers off of him, causing Lukas to groan at the loss of warmth, “You know what today is.”
How could he not? It had only been the very thing his parents would talk about for the past year-
The day he would be crowned king.
As was tradition, he was seventeen years of age, the time for him to learn how to be a proper ruler to succeed his father King Mitchell.
Though the problem lay in the very fact that Lukas was many things.
But proper he was not.
Lukas rose, reluctantly, which struck James quite odd. Normally there would be more complaints, a bout or two before he would summon the guards to extricate him from the bed.
“I’ll-” A yawn broke out and the young man rubbed his eyes to rouse himself, “I’ll be there soon.”
James raised an eyebrow.
Lukas lifted a palm in good faith, “I promise.”
The older man stared at him for a moment before leaving to attend to other duties. As soon as he left, the prince quietly tip-toed to the doors, pressing his ear against the cool wood and waited. The sounds of footsteps faded, marking his guardian’s disappearance around the corner.
“Sucker,” Lukas laughed, before shrugging on a shirt, swiping his headphones off his desk, and booking it to his balcony.
He had about a minute and half to scale down the vines encasing his wing of the palace before the guards caught him.
Over the years, he had to get a bit creative to evade palace security, with his parents sealing off most exits, doubling the guards stationed by his window at night, but nowadays it was much easier to do the riskier, more obvious way to escape.
No one would expect it.
Hopping down to the lower level and pressing himself against the wall, he crab-walked until he found the door leading into the kitchen.
He slipped through, greeting the staff who all shook their heads at him. They knew better than to dissuade him from doing what he was about to do. All Geneveive, the head cook, could do was send him off with a bag of food with a “Hurry back now or James will have our heads.”
Biting off a piece of bread, he thanked her with a wink and was off, dancing around the extra busy kitchen and putting on his headphones in the process.
With Nirvana blaring in his ears, Lukas made it to the waterfront and hopped into one of the more modest fishing boats (exchanging one of Genevieve’s sponge cakes for the keys. Thank you, Garrison) and motored off to the islet a few miles out.
20 minutes later, he moored to the dingy port where two other boats were stationed on the small piece of land.
“Oh my god,” he heard someone holler, a guy about his age with jet-black hair and swim trunks, “Is that the future King of Solaria?”
Lukas rolled his eyes, lugging around the small back, “Oh my god. Is that Reginald? The future King of the Crescent Cape?” he mimicked.
Another boy, blonde and tall, lay under the shade of a tree reading, scoffed, “Unfortunately.”
Reginald and Lukas locked eyes and smirked.
“Wait,” Reginald squinted at the blonde, “Is that- No way! It is, Lukas!”
“It so is!” Lukas gasped excitedly, “You’re Prince Alexander!”
“Of the Grybrian Isles? OMG!”
“Thought he’d be taller,”
“Thought he’d be more handsome,”
Alexander got to his feet, rolling his eyes, “Alright. Can you two be any more louder? Do you want them to find us?”
“Chill, they haven’t caught us yet,” Reginald reassured, leading the two other princes deeper into the patch of greenery on the tiny island, one that they all had discovered and have been running to to get away from prince duties for years now.
Lukas would have been driven to madness by royal duties if it weren’t for his friends from the neighboring kingdoms. He, Reginald, and Alexander had known each other their whole lives, their domains all clustered together that made visiting each other so easy.
But every now and then, they needed to get away from the watchful eye of their parents and guards and the citizens and just be… them.
Lukas was lucky to know that he wasn’t alone in feeling this way, and that he could always turn to his friends.
“You goons better be hungry,” Lukas announced, tossing the bag of food their way.
Reggie dug into the snacks ravenously, “When aren’t we?”
Meanwhile, Alex was pacing, set on a nervous bender, “Aren’t you guys… I don’t know… kinda nervous?”
“Hey,” Lukas flicked a crumb at the other prince, hitting his calf mid-stride, “Thought we weren’t gonna talk about it today.”
“We’re all gonna be king soon, how can we not talk about it?”
The three of them sighed.
Alexander continued on the runway, “I mean, do you feel ready? I’m not ready,”
“Nope,” Reginald popped the ‘p’, frowning, “I hate being the oldest.”
“Why do we have to rule a country at 17? That’s stupid,” Lukas complained, searching through the bushes
“‘It’s tradition, Alexander. It’s what you must do. For the good of Grybria’,” Alexander impersonated, “Ugh. My brother just had to abdicate. Can’t I do that? Can I just abdicate?”
“Your dad would never let you,”
“Maybe if I told him I’m gay, he’d disown me?”
“Alexander,” Lukas warned.
“I was joking!” the blonde muttered, “...mostly.”
“Well what about me?” Reginald started, “I couldn’t take care of a bunny. How can I run a country?!”
Lukas felt around the ground until he hit leather and lugged out a guitar case he had stashed for safe keeping.
“Boys, let’s just… drop it today,” he deescalated. Funny, since he was up for coronation first, his rehearsal ceremony in a few hours, but he was determined to squeeze in some quality time with his friends before he couldn’t anymore, “Can we just chill? For a little while?” While they still could...
The other princes nodded.
“Okay. Now…” he took out his guitar and slung the strap over his shoulder, “Wanna jam?”
That brought a smile onto all of their faces.
They gathered in a circle, Lukas signaling at Alexander, who immediately began clapping a beat:
“1, 2, 3, 4-”

* knowing your partner well can potentially make writing a lot easier, repost, do not reblog.
meet the mun. — basics
NAME: Char PRONOUNS: she/her PREFERENCE OF COMMUNICATION: Discord and sometimes tumblr IMs if I’m feeling them. SINGLE / TAKEN: single pringle
— three facts
𝙞. i can play two instruments; guitar and the recorder ‘cause for some reason they made us learn it in elementary school an’ idk it never left my brain lol 𝙞𝙞. uh...i’m related to a famous pioneer and Jesse James the famous outlaw and Abe Lincoln (which then connects me to George Clooney so that’s cool) 𝙞𝙞𝙞. never left the west coast in my 27 years of life
— experience
First started out in a teen wolf like RPG here on tumblr back in early 2012, that didn’t pan out then I was in a btvs post chosen RPG up in the same year and then finally I landed in an RPG that was a cluster fuck of fandoms that, yet again, didn’t pan out. So I converted my Spike blog to indie and been a menace to tumblr ever since.
— sub-genres
FLUFF: It’s nice, but given the types of characters I tend to write, it doesn’t happen often. But it is welcomed! Especially with this broken ass slayer. SMUT: Back in the day when this place was a lawless cesspool of filth, I would have thrown my muses into the thick of it. Now that this place is like For Knox and I’m older? I don’t got time for it and have gotta be in a mood to write it and also super chill with my partner. Faith is a sexual being so things are bound to happen, but I’m not opposed to keeping the nitty gritty on discord and in private. Also ‘cause the read mores now sucks camel balls and doesn’t work like it should so I just don’t wanna unnerve folks, etc. ANGST: Fuckin’ put it in my hand little man. Angst is easy to write, can drink it up like fuckin’ water. Also again, I tend to write troubled muses so it just comes easier than the others. Faith is very much troubled and I really do love hurting my girl and my other muses.
— plots versus memes
Memes are usually the go to for me as it’s a good way to lead to a potential plot. But on the off chance that I do get inspiration (usually if I’m really vibing with the partner ooc) I’ll plot out the beginning, middle, and end of whatever chaos we can muster. So it’s 50/50 but always send memes ‘cause they’re good for kick staring things.
— long or short replies
Sometimes I get wordy and ramble. Short replies are good for getting things started because you can always build off of it and get to longer replies / threads with ease. But there are sometimes where all I have the brain power is to do short replies ‘cause they’re good for a little back and forth. However, long replies do take me longer and not because I’m trying to match, but because it just takes more focus and thought process. So again, 50/50.
— best time to write
In the evening / early morning hours (that’s why y’all early birds see me up and about at like 5am lol) but honestly whenever I can get a moment to myself without any interruptions. And whenever I have / get muse at this point in my writing life. Some days I can get on in the afternoon and have no problem, other times I don’t get on until well after 11pm. Just depends on how I’m feeling and if there’s any chatter from the muses.

room for one more? | lee juyeon
lee juyeon | room for one more?
pairing: lee juyeon x {gender-neutral} reader!
word count: 5k
notes: this is the kinda fluff that everyone wants, be prepared. a smidgen of angst bc why not and also slightly suggestive but we don’t get into the ~hmm hmm~ if you know what I mean? lee juyeon holds a massive spot in my heart and i wanna show how goddamn great he is in my mind so here ya go.
_______________________________________________________________________
The wind slowly brush your hair across your face with another gust setting it back into place – you were content. Every summer your family came down to the beach for a weekend of camping. An annual tradition. A tradition that slowly turned from thirteen families coming together for a weekend, to just you and your twelve friends for a night by the beach. You were around 17 when your parents stopped tagging along, with the boys’ parents slowly following suit. You didn’t mind so much though; some thought you were strange to hang out with twelve boys, but they were like brothers to you. Except one…
The crackling of the fire brought you back to reality, as tusks of smoke gradually rose from the open flame. Younghoon and Sangyeon were chopping vegetables and grilling meat, the smell made your mouth water as you swigged from your cup to fill the empty void in your stomach. It didn’t take long for Hyunjae to continue filling your cup further from the crate of beer he’d gotten from his uncle as a graduation present. This was the second year that your parents hadn’t joined; last year, you had gotten quite carried away with the strength of your alcohol tolerance, as Hyunjae loved to remind you.
“You don’t need to fill it up you know, I can barely get two sips in before its filled to the top again” you grumbled, holding back a smile at his cheeky grin.
His hand slowly retreated away from your cup. “Sorry, cupcake. Or should I start to call you Budweiser – King of Beers?” he retorted, his eyebrow lifting to taunt you further.
Hyunjae had called you cupcake ever since he and his mother found you hiding in their pantry at his 7th birthday party, icing smeared around your mouth reinforcing the evidence at the scene of the crime. You huffed and shoved his shoulder – he began to lose his balance and fell off the log backwards from where you were both perched on it. Your laughter filled the small area that you and the boys occupied, a sound unbeknownst to said boys. Except one…
You could feel his gaze, as he sat beside Sunwoo, humming along to the inaudible song he was practicing on his guitar. You turned to meet his gaze, which he quickly dodged and turned his attention back to the instrument in his hand.
Oh, Juyeon… You kept your gaze on him just for a moment longer than usual. His hair glistened ever so slightly under his cap in the light from the flame. You were sat directly opposite him, a prime position for the attention you hoped from him, but never got.
Your heart swelled a little, knowing that he had been looking, but gradually deepened once more when you realized he never actually wanted to be caught. The weight of the log shifted as a figure occupied the space that Hyunjae had just fallen from. You turned to face Changmin, who returned your gaze with a knowing look. He knew how you felt, he was the only one who you had spoken to about Juyeon. About how frustrating it was that the boy who used to sneak into your tent as his parents fought would now avoid you like the plague.
You were close to each of the boys, but Juyeon and Changmin held a special place in your heart. Their own life-long friendship didn’t mind being interrupted when you entered the classroom as the new student with no friends. Walking into your new class, your slightly discoloured dungarees and Power Rangers lunch box in hand made the girls turn away from you – you didn’t fit in with them, at all. But the empty space on the table with those two boys, at the back of the classroom, opened your heart to realise there was good in the world for a six-year-old. They were your first friends, and that held so much importance for you. This feeling was confirmed, 13 years later, by the slight nudge of Changmin’s shoulder onto yours, followed by a sip from his own cup.
“You know,” he began… “you can always approach him.” His eyes reflected in the orange flickers too; if you weren’t his best friend and subsequent pain in the ass, you probably would’ve fallen for him. His shy smile but courageous personality shone like the stars in the sky. You smiled at him gratefully, with a nod of acknowledgement, but not necessarily understanding. You knew you could approach him, you’ve known that for the last year or so that Juyeon started to avoid one-on-one interaction with you. It began when your Friday night sleepovers turned into just Changmin turning up at your doorstep with the latest horror movie he could find and a tray of freshly baked cupcakes, courtesy of Hyunjae’s mum, Mrs. Lee.
Sighing, you stood from your crouched position by the fire pit announcing that you’d just be a minute, before heading the opposite direction to the commotion you could hear near the tents. Changmin went back to helping the rest of the boys put up their temporary homes for the night, and you followed the shore to a quiet spot where you could watch the sunset. You could feel a particular set of eyes on you once more, but you were too tired to do anything about it. If he wanted to interact with you, he’d have to do it himself.
A cluster of rocks was placed perfectly in the sand for you to perch on as the sun turned the sky from a luminous orange to a dusty rose with stars randomly sparking across the skyline. You took your phone out of the kangaroo pouch of your hoodie to play some music, but halted at your lock screen. Your favourite smiles looked back at you as the picture of Juyeon and Changmin appeared – their eyes crinkled like crescent moons with their smiles wide, standing in front of the scary ride they had just pledged to go on at the funfair. This picture meant more to you than any other, because an excitable Changmin’s attention was on the ride itself, but Juyeon was focused on the person who took the picture. Your heart swelled again – a little more this time at the fond memory of your trip to the fair. You quickly locked the phone again before you let your emotions get to you. The boys cared about you a lot, and automatically knew when you had cried from the puffiness of your eyes and blotchy cheeks.
The faint sound of Sangyeon’s call for food grabbed your attention, and you realized time had passed quickly. You were sat alone staring at the sky, with a fond memory but heavy heart. You knew you didn’t have a shot at grabbing the food you wanted as the boys crowded around the make shift food table like scavenges, as you approached the table you were proved right. But your longing and heavy heart meant that you didn’t have the energy to care. Changmin reached over and placed a chicken thigh on your plate with a big smile that washed away some of your heavy emotion; you returned the smile thankfully and scooped the last of the rice onto your plate and grabbed the final pair of chopsticks that remained. You saw the boys munching on the corn on the cobs that you brought specifically for yourself, but again, you didn’t have much energy despite Changmin’s attempts. They were your favourite, but it was your own fault for walking away from these demanding and ravenous boys.
You took your spot next to Changmin once more. He and Chanhee were arguing over which part of the chicken tasted the best, an argument they’ve pondered many times. Their light-hearted attempt to spark conversation with the group distracted you for a moment. But the sudden weight that made its way onto your plate grabbed your attention. A perfectly charred corn, exactly how you liked it. You were quick enough to catch the figure that continued their route behind you, too familiar for you not to recognise. But Juyeon sat back in his spot and pretended like nothing had happened. But it did happen, and that’s what confused you the most.
With your attention captured, the content of your plate was left long enough to go cold. The change in the sky made the flames enhance the melanin of his skin that made you want to stick your finger in it. The way his oversized grey t-shirt rose a little as he sipped at the beer Sunwoo had passed to him, and the way his baseball cap was angled slightly that caused a shadow on his jawline was too much to ignore. It took a few moments for him to notice you staring, by that time his stare was just as intimidating – you wondered whether you should have chosen a nicer top and fluffy beige cardigan that you originally picked over the oversized sweatshirt and jeans you threw on moments before Hyunjae had picked you up. His stare softened slightly, a moment that went unnoticed by you - it seems you forgot that the oversized jumper you were wearing was the hoodie that Juyeon thought he had lost. Luckily, his growing smile was overshadowed by his cap once more as he turned away from you.
The conversation beside you was getting more intense, but you stared back at the contents of your plate. What does this mean?
The thought didn’t leave you for hours. You had said goodnight to the boys just after midnight, ensuring to avoid any eye contact with the one that was clouding your mind at this very moment. Changmin followed you to your tent to make sure you were okay.
“It definitely wasn’t the chicken, right? I told Chanhee that the thigh was the best part but I can’t win this argument if it made you sick!” His doe eyes concluded that as joking as he sounded, he was absolutely serious about his argument.
You chuckled lightly. “I’m okay, I promise.” Your small smile brought a wave of relief over Changmin. It warmed your heart to know how much he cared about you, and you hoped he knew it was reciprocated. Reaching over to kiss his cheek, you hugged him tighter than normal. “I love you, Q-t. Thank you for taking care of me.”
The slight tinge of his ears made both of you giggle, with his hands flying to cover the evidence. But his smile told you that he loved you too.
The noise outside of your tent began to quiet as Changmin made his way back to the fire pit, whilst giving out to Hyunjae’s “mWOHASEYO?!” that could have been heard across the ocean. These boys would be the death of you, but you wouldn’t replace them for the world.
You had taken your parents double sleeping bag this year, as your single one made you feel trapped despite the size of the three-person tent. After changing into your bicycle shorts and baggy shirt, you snuggle into the covers as the rain began to fall, splatters echoing across the outside of your tent. The squeal of Changmin told you that the boys were getting soaked and you did nothing but laugh at their misery. The bustling outside of your tent made you forget about your worries for the time being, as the calmness of the rain filled your ears. Hyungseo, Joonyoung were shouting for Youngjae to grab more beers beside your tent as they made their way into their own. You knew somewhere that Hyunjoon, Haknyeon and Chanhee were squealing just as loud as Changmin as their clothes got drenched.
Speak of the devil, Changmin’s shadow came toward your tent looking for a haven. The quickness of the zip made you sit up and shift the sleeping bag and your belongings that scattered across the tent so that you could make room. As he stepped into the tent, you continued your task, but played with a threatening tone. “I swear to god, Q, if you even get a single droplet of water on me or my side, I will absolutely, one hundred percent chop off your –“
“Room for one more?”
Your eyes snapped up in shock. You were met with melting brown ones that you wish you could forget
Closing the zipper to hide from the rain, Juyeon’s eye line slowly levelled with yours, a small smile on his face. Your breath hitched in your throat. The look of fear in your eyes made his grin disappear, replacing his once happy expression with a look of concern.
“You – How? – Why are you here, Juyeon? Don’t you have your own tent?” You hated how you stuttered. The habit you had gotten out of when you hit puberty only returned when you were nervous. A complete giveaway to the person you were trying to appear stern towards.
That moment, his eyes flickered everywhere that wasn’t your face as he rambled that “Sunwoo left the zipper open and the rain flooded our tent. He’s hopped in with Sangyeon and Hoon. But there was no room anywhere else. I can go and ask Changmin or Hyunjoon if they want to sleep here instead. I – I’m sorry if –” The faltering noise in your throat made him stop his muttering and look you in the eye once more.
“No – uh, it’s okay. There’s enough room, I guess. I only have one sleeping bag but I guess if we open it up it can reach over to the other side of the tent…” you stammered. This was not how you had planned to talk to him for the first time in a year. You thought you’d be screaming, crying, defeated. This was much different – but you took this as an opportunity to reconcile… hopefully.
Juyeon just nodded in response, and made his way over to the edge of the tent opposite you. Just as he used to when you were younger. There were two things that Juyeon came to your tent for: when his parents argued or during a thunderstorm. The latter thought combined with the rain outside made his original explanation seem a little skewed. The sudden nostalgia made your tense body relax a small bit, and you huddled back under the cover while passing the other side toward Juyeon. The slight tug told you he was under it and you could feel his body warmth immediately. But his presence made you feel more claustrophobic than your old sleeping bag ever did. Your nostrils filled with the scent you had longed for in all comfort-seeking situations – a subtle hint of ocean spray mixed with autumn leaves. It’s why you loved to be by the ocean, it reminded you of him.
Finding the silence deafening, he spoke up. “How was your corn?” You could see a slight smile make its way to his lips, with the limited light from the moon and reflecting different shades of blue through the roof of the tent.
“It was good. Thank you, I was devastated when I saw you scavenges had taken them all.” I admitted, a little too open in emotion, and completely forgetting the last year of silence. He chuckled lightly at your honesty – “I figured. Sangyeon had charred that one perfectly, so I snagged it before anyone else could get it.”
Your cheeks became hot at the realization that he meant he hadn’t taken it for himself, he was thinking of you. But the thought made you more confused than ever, and the moment of reconciliation slowly faded as did your energy. It was minutes before either of you tried conversation again, but again it died as quickly as it started. You were frustrated.
Why has it come to this? What did I do?
But the only person that knew the answer to that, was lying a few feet away from you. Just do it.
“Juyeon?”
He hummed in response, to show he was listening to what you had to say.
Here goes.
“Why have you been avoiding me?” It came out quickly, a little too quickly. But the pain behind the question was no longer masked. And it made Juyeon lean up onto his side, leaning on his elbow as he looked down at what he believed was your eyes, the lack of light making it difficult to completely concentrate. That, and the loaded question you had just asked.
“I – I don’t know.” He admitted it calmly. But you were far from calm.
“You don’t know? You don’t know why you look the other way when I’ve tried to grab your attention. Or why Changmin has turned up to my house every Friday night since last summer all by himself.” You wanted to continue, but you were completely riled by the three worded, empty answer he gave to you.
“I’m sorry. That – I didn’t mean that I don’t know.” He began, drawing your attention back to the sincerity in his eyes. “I meant that I don’t know how to explain myself. It’s hard to talk about feelings when you’re too clouded in your own head.”
Feelings.
He continued, “I guess I’ll start with an apology…”
You were shocked. The candor in his tone made you want to never look away. It made you wonder why you had never asked in the first place. You were just as bad as he was by neglecting to confront the situation. You sighed and sat up, turning the small light on that hung from the ceiling.
As the light illuminated the tent, his sharp features became much more apparent. Looking down at him, you had switched roles. Now he looked intimidated by your gaze, just as you did when he looked down at you. But that moment ended with a crash of thunder and the lightning that lit up the whole tent like it had been struck.
The sudden flash scared Juyeon so much that he had jumped up and accidently hit the light in the process, flooding the tent again in darkness. Your hand went to your mouth in half shock, half laughter as you witnessed this grown man being scared by thunder just as much as he did when he was seven. His eyes were alert and you could hear his erratic breathing that made you want to comfort him just as you did back then.
Taking his hand and drawing variations of circles with your thumb you knew would bring him back to the present. But the charge of your skin touching was much more powerful than the lighting flash itself. It made you your eyes snap up at one another, now level as you both sat up in the tent. As your small hands held his right one, the warmth continued to radiate from his body into yours. It almost set your heart on fire.
The shock wore off and you started to do what you had intended as if nothing had happened. With one hand holding his hand in place, and the other drawing circles with your thumb to calm him down. It took him longer than usual to get his breathing steady, as the feeling of your electrified skin elongated the process. In the darkness, he could see your concentration on his hand which warmed his heart – it had been so long since you paid this much attention to him, let alone look his way. In reality, you both missed each other’s longing glances which was clouded by the thoughts of anxiety about your situation.
“I think – I’m okay now…” Juyeon accentuated his breathing to prove his point. But you didn’t stop, because you didn’t want to. The feeling of his hand filled the emptiness in your heart ever since he stopped talking to you. You loved Changmin, but nobody could fix this void except for Lee Juyeon. He noticed your hesitancy and took it upon himself to guide you back down under the covers. This time he was much closer, and he didn’t let go of your hand. You were content, you both were. The longing you had felt slowly faded as you had settled back into your reality together. Now you didn’t need to talk about it anymore. Anything that had happened was long forgotten by now.
You laid there together for a moment. Peacefully facing each other, Juyeon’s breath that fanned your face made you realise the proximity between you. But any anxiety washed away the moment his hand made its way to your thigh, drawing small circles. Just as you had moments ago. It had taken you this long to realise the size of his hands; the quick rate his chest rose and fell – you were focused on every detail of that moment.
“Hey,” he whispered, to which you hummed in response. “I’m sorry.”
You took a moment to take in the words you had wanted to hear for so long.
He is sorry. Do you want to know why? Is it best to forget about it?
Your silence made Juyeon act nervously, as he used that hand that continued to draw circles on your thigh to draw your body even closer to his. His hand shifted your head so it fit perfectly in the crook of his neck. The sudden action caused a strong waft of his scent to drown you and bring immediate comfort to your anxious figure. The way your lips grazed his collarbone brought a shiver over him, a moment you will relish in for a long time. Your power over him going unnoticed until now.
These actions occurred within the space of a minute. The final action being the feeling of his lips on your forehead as he applied more pressure than normal, as his emotions got the better of him. Your thoughts clouded once more as you questioned the motivation behind the kiss – the only sound drawing you back to reality was the rain that hit the tent at a force.
You pulled back to look at him, but not far enough that his arms moved from around you. You were locked in place by the feel of his embrace and the passion that shone from his eyes. Your questioning look made him put his emotions into words, as they poured out of him rushed and stammered.
“I’ve wanted to do that for a long time. I am sorry, I really am. I can’t explain how I feel completely, at this precise moment. The fact that you’re this close to me is extremely nerve-wracking. But I’m sorry that I’ve avoided you. I just couldn’t face you after I admitted it to myself. I can’t tell you when it began, and I don’t remember exactly when I felt the need to distance myself; it was a long time coming and I handled it badly, I know.”
As he paused to take a breath, you noticed how his hand ran back down to your thigh, drawing circles at a much quicker rate now to mirror his apprehension. The feeling ignited your insides and sent you into overdrive but his gaze was so overpowering that you couldn’t look away.
“There were times when I saw you messing around with Hyunjae that I just wanted to drag him away by the collar. Or if we were in a coffee shop and the barista drew your name with a small heart beside it, I saw red. Or even Changmin. He couldn’t hurt a soul. But it hurt me to see the way that you’d lie together on the sofa while we watched a movie every Friday. You’d team up to throw popcorn at me, while I tried my best to focus on the movie rather than the way his hand lingered a little too long on your hip to steady you from laughing.”
He took in another breath. You were unmoving. What is he saying?
“It has been years since I started feeling these things. And I tried to suppress them. I really did. But you captivated every moment of my day – from when I opened my eyes to the good night call we had before going to sleep. Even in my sleep, I could see your face. Just like now. I thought I needed to distance myself… but it was the hardest thing I’ve ever done.”
As his hand came up to touch your cheek, you became lost in his words completely. The thought that he reciprocated any feelings you had were never possible until this moment. As your eyes traced his facial features, from the small feathered earring that hooked onto his earlobe, to the sharp contour of his cheek bones, to the honesty that melted into his eyes, drawing your attention finally to his lips that spoke the next few words.
“And like that, I fell in love with you.”
The reality of his emotions burst through you as your eyes shut and Juyeon closed the gap between you. His plush lips slotted perfectly against yours, as if they were carved specifically for one another. The touch wasn’t rushed, but you felt his desperation as his lips opened and guided yours with him. The slowness of his movements and the feeling of his tongue exploring your mouth made you melt into him; your hands moving from between you to the nape of his neck, as his pulled at your hips to bring as much contact as possible.
You pulled away first to gaze at him with as much love and passion as you could muster, with a lot of it taken from the sincerity of the kiss. You merely whispered the words he wanted to hear before he drew you back in again.
I love you, Lee Juyeon.
You woke a few hours later as the light began to shine through into the tent. You weren’t sure how long you had stayed up last night – a mixture of kisses, soft touches and moments that you had never thought possible. It was all followed by hours of talking; back to your reality.
A soft snore caught your attention and brought you back to being in Juyeon’s arms. At some point during the night the sleeping bag had been thrown off of your snuggled figures, with the warmth radiating from the leg he had swung over yours. His other leg wedged its way between your own, like a high score on Tetris.
Your gaze rested on his relaxed face, the worry visible last night had been completely erased and replaced with a look of content – one that likely mirrored your own. As your nose lightly tickled under his jaw, he breathed in deeply telling you that your sudden desire to take in this moment had stirred him awake. His movement shifted his weight from beneath you to on top of you, with his head now rested in your neck, his lips slowly trailing against your collarbone. Feeling his lips curve into a smile made your own twitch upwards, too.
Laying there in that moment, the last year vanished. It hurt you to think he distanced himself because of this, but you knew you could work it out. You always did.
Your attention shifted onto the pressure against your thigh and you realised that this journey might not be the easiest you’ve ever taken.
“Juyeon!” you squealed, as the realization dawned on him and the sound of his laughter filled the tent. “Again, really?!”
He shot up onto his elbows to lean over you, as he did what felt like days ago. The fluffiness of his hair made you want to run your hands through it. So, you did. His eyes slimmed into the crescent moons that you knew and loved as he took a moment to stare down at you, the glistening of his eyes filling you with adoration. With a quick peck, he got up and began to sort through the clothes that were flung across the tent in a hurry. The mesmerising curvature of his back distracted you from sorting out your own clothes. He began to hand you items of clothing one by one, implying that you were about to leave the tent. Something you hadn’t thought about doing. At this point, you’d neglected to listen to the chaos that ensued outside – you looked back at Juyeon with a slight fear.
He chuckled, the rings that adorned his slender fingers brought a chill to you as he caressed your face. “They had to find out at some point, love.”
Love. You shivered, not from the cold this time.
With a few deep breathes, and ensuring your clothing was on in the correct and appropriate manner, Juyeon took your hand and unzipped the tent with the other.
As the wind blew sharply, the chattered died down from the group of boys that had circled the fire pit with cups of coffee in their hands. Their faces turned from excitement to shock, with a screaming that came from none other than Changmin filled your ears as he looked down at your intertwined hands.
You and Juyeon looked down at what they were staring at, and then again at each other with a small, knowing smile that only you two shared. The shock quickly morphed into shouts and hollers as Juyeon led you to the circle to join them.
You took a seat between him and Changmin, who handed you a cup of steaming coffee accompanied by a wink. You quickly shoved him at the shoulder for his cheekiness, but turned your attention to your coffee when you realised Juyeon had placed an arm around your shoulder. You looked at him with complete adoration to which he returned with a wink and a squeeze of your shoulder. Unlike Changmin, he didn’t get a shove – just a flustered look that made you direct your attention back to your coffee, as a smile made its way to your face, and it didn’t plan on leaving.

“It’s not like Kirishima had come all this way to U.A. to immediately break the promise he made to himself upon arrival.
It’s just that Bakugou is as feral as they come, and the moment Kirishima recognizes it’s fear he felt crawling up his spine that day, he makes it his personal mission to face it head-on until it’s gone.”
(Or: Being friends with Bakugou Katsuki is anything but a linear experience. Kirishima Eijirou would have it no other way.)

***
Kirishima Eijirou had stared at the grin on Bakugou’s face when he pulled the pin in his gauntlet and thought: Holy shit, this guy is insane.
Over multiple screens, a good chunk of Ground β went up in a blast so strong the floor trembled with its aftershocks even here, miles away. Concrete and steel and glass were incinerated in a gust of fire and debris until all that was left was Midoriya’s crumpled form amidst plumes of smoke and Bakugou standing tall in the ruins.
The cameras shorted out once, twice before the image stabilized; the transmission remained silent. There was no sound needed to see how Bakugou’s grin got an edge sharper in the wake of the explosion.
Insane and absolutely deadly.
It wasn’t Kirishima’s first impression of him, per se. Certainly he’d had some sort of reaction to the only name ranked above his own after the Entrance Exams and the total sum of zero rescue points listed beside it. He can even remember the twinge of something in his chest after seeing that infamous quirk in action on day one – be it awe or envy or plain curiosity, that innocent question of How does it work, though? that accompanies most encounters with a new power.
Still: In those first few days, when Kirishima thinks of Bakugou Katsuki, he thinks of the mad glint in his eyes as he went above and beyond in his attempt to murder their classmate (or seriously maim him, at the very least).
In hindsight, having him play the villain was perhaps less coincidence and more fate, given the optics of what could reasonably be described as a shitshow. And, okay, Kirishima knows it’s not exactly fair to judge someone based solely on fleeting observations. His parents taught him better than that. Crimson Riot showed him better than that. It’s not like Kirishima had come all this way to U.A. to immediately break the promise he made to himself upon arrival.
It’s just that Bakugou is as feral as they come, and the moment Kirishima recognizes it’s fear he felt crawling up his spine that day he makes it his personal mission to face it head-on until it’s gone.
Endure and overcome, just like any other obstacle looming over the difficult path ahead. Kirishima smiles around the pencil he’s chewing on as Aizawa drones on, eyes trained on the uniquely tense set of shoulders across the room.
Yeah. Bakugou won’t even stand a chance.
*
It takes many cold shoulders, rebuffed lunch invitations and countless glares – and a villainous intervention Kirishima could’ve honestly lived without – for a rough voice to say:
“You there. Shark Teeth.”
The sun is starting to peek into the room as it hangs low and lazy in the sky. Class 1-A has just been released into a well-deserved weekend: Kirishima is very much aware his mothers want him home as fast as possible after what happened at U.S.J., and he’s throwing his things into his bag at peak velocity. Only after a tap on his shoulder and a subtle nod from Sero does he register it’s him Bakugou is talking to.
Perhaps ‘growling at’ would be a better description, but… semantics. Kirishima throws the guy a look and a smile over his shoulder either way, “Hey! What’s up, man?”, and given Bakugou’s eyes only narrow a little, he’s about 70% sure he’s not done something to land on his shit list.
Yet.
All Bakugou does is direct a decidedly less neutral look towards Sero, who jolts and stumbles over a quick “Um. Gotta– Yup, okay, bye!” before he books it out the classroom. Kirishima watches him go with some bemusement and a muttered “Dude”, not that Bakugou reacts to it in any way.
“Spar with me”, Bakugou says instead – demands, really – and Kirishima feels his brows tick upwards before he can stop himself, hands pausing in his quest to cram his notepad next to his books without wrinkling its cover page too badly.
“Uh. Like, right now? ‘Cause I can’t. Well, I could but I’m about to miss my train as is and I’d have to tell my–”
A slow blink, and even that is threatening when it’s coming from Bakugou. “No, asshole. This weekend, or something. I don’t care.”
Oh. Kirishima blinks. Something about Bakugou approaching him out of his own free will must be causing a substantial lag between different areas of his brain because– Oh.
“Wait. You wanna hang out?”
Maybe he could’ve hidden the clear surprise in his voice a bit better, that emphasis on you that sort of slipped in there without him really wanting it to. Kirishima’s heart sinks at the twitch to Bakugou’s brow that pretty much guarantees whatever he actually meant to say is forever lost to the ire perpetually simmering in that red gaze.
Well, it was nice knowing what going to U.A. is like. At least none of his classmates are present to see Kirishima’s inevitable – if incredibly untimely – demise.
Then Bakugou… rolls his eyes, exhales a harsh tch for good measure. “Whatever.” He shoves his bag further up his shoulder and, without a glance back, walks out the room–
Oh no, you don’t.
Out of all foolish thoughts it’s that one that shoots through Kirishima’s head before he grabs his stuff and goes after him. Bakugou somehow manages to maintain that no-fucks-given air to his gait despite how fast he walks, and Kirishima falls into a light jog to close the gap.
“It’s a great idea, man. Can’t have us going soft over the weekend! Plus Ultra, just like All Might said, right?”
Bakugou gives him a withering glance of a side-eye for his trouble. Kirishima notes the distinct lack of explode-y manslaughter, though, and allows himself to settle right into Bakugou’s pace.
“Besides, it’s been like a week and we’re already having villains crashing our lessons. I mean, we showed ‘em what’s what and all, but still! Some extra training can’t hurt.”
It’s not like Kirishima minds being the one to carry a conversation yet the fact that he hasn’t been told to shut up is… something? Not enough for Kirishima to point out, it’s just a thing he notices, just something, so he keeps talking. Past U.A.’s gates, down the stairs and onto the busy sidewalk they go, and Bakugou’s hands never leave the pockets of his pants as he marches past clusters of people in an unflinching line.
Head held high, eyes dead ahead. Cutting through the crowd with his presence alone, and in his wake Kirishima follows.
The afternoon light is hitting that glow-y hue that paints even the most mundane of things in shades of gold when Kirishima realizes they’re headed to the train station. He draws up short, slows his step in the split-second it takes to ask himself if the other even takes the train home or–
Bakugou’s eyes are on him, “What?”, that one word barked so impatiently Kirishima throws the thought right out the metaphorical window and keeps walking.
“Nothing!” A flash of his home screen proves: Five minutes left. They’re making good time. Which, actually– “So what time were you thinking for our sparring sesh? I’m good whenever, unless it’s super late at night. Overprotective parents, you know how it is.”
That gets a huff out of Bakugou. That, and a gesture that’s sort of a grab, sort of a wave that has Kirishima a little stumped until Bakugou sighs gruffly. “Your phone, dumbass.”
“Oh, sure! Here.”
The device changes hands. Kirishima contemplates feeling embarrassed about the obvious crack that takes up half the screen; he’d designed his hero costume without his delicate tech in mind, and with the whirlwind of starting and then surviving week one of the new school year, he hasn’t been able to spare a minute to get neither the phone fixed nor the costume amended.
Bakugou doesn’t comment on it – in fact, he pulls his sleeve down to hold the thing as if to cushion it, and when he taps the screen it’s with his knuckles. Before Kirishima can ask, the pre-installed voice control AI chirps its distinct jingle and Bakugou tells it to make a new contact, rattling off a long string of numbers.
Even before the AI has confirmed the input, Kirishima is catching the phone chucked rather carelessly at his head. “There”, Bakugou says, starting to climb the stairs to the tracks two steps at a time.
Kirishima doesn’t have much time to process any of that before the telltale rattling of an incoming train sounds above them. “Oh shit”, he breathes, hurrying onto the platform and to the closest door just in time to see the last passenger get out. Once inside, he pumps his fist.
“Hell yeah! Dude, we–”
The person next to him, who is not Bakugou, looks rather startled. What the…? Kirishima turns a full 360 degrees before a knock just inches from his face startles him and he meets Bakugou’s smirk, firmly on the other side of the window.
Not a moment later, the train starts pulling away. Kirishima presses close to the thick, faintly scratched glass to watch Bakugou turn and walk right back where they came from. His hand is raised, the light catching white and glinting on something in his hand.
A phone. Oh, right!
Kirishima swipes across an image of Crimson Riot’s iconic pose to unlock and reads Bakugou Katsuki, having left the tab open in his haste. First things first: With a soft snort and a few swift taps, the name is changed before Kirishima hits the speech bubble icon next to it.

He watches the tick next to his messages turn blue almost immediately and waits. One station passes, then two. By the third Kirishima is sure he’s been left on read and laughs, shaking his head. Of course.
The rest of his way home is spent assuring Sero he has not, in fact, exited life in a flurry of explosions as well as letting his moms know he’ll be home in a few. The next time Kirishima checks his phone is between brushing his teeth and climbing into bed, two unread messages waiting for him.

The link leads to a location which his phone matches to a quirk-friendly gym pretty close to the U.A. grounds. Kirishima scrolls through a few images of the facilities with some interest before his brain registers–

Eskel offers to share a bath, and ends up sharing much more.
It was not often that the two of you splurged on such luxuries, but when Eskel had strode into a larger town with you at his side and spotted a bathhouse, it only took a quick glance between you to confirm their direction. Sure, you’d have to scrimp and save your coin for the next few days, but it was worth getting clean and letting yourself relax for an afternoon.
There is a tall gentleman at the door collecting payment, and he’s subtle enough to only stare at Eskel’s scars for a heartbeat too long. He scratches at them as you hand over the coin before you both walk inside.
You split once you enter the hallway, the dressing rooms on either end of the building. You move quickly, probably a bit too excited at the prospect of warm water, fresh, fragrant soap, the bubbles dripping in thick clusters down the broad expanse of Eskel’s chest, flowing down, down to hi-
Woah, you think to yourself, wrapping a towel to cover your body. Let’s not get ahead of ourselves. Eskel is a friend. Sure, he’s kind, and selfless, and funny, and ungodly handsome, and…
Oh, you are so fucked.
You walk into the open area of the bathhouse, tiles cool under your feet. There are a few private baths surrounding the main pools, but all of them are occupied. Just as you are about to peek into the final one before resigning yourself to one of the more exposed baths, you hear someone call your name from inside.
You gently nudge the door open and peer in, discreetly sucking in a breath at the sight that greets you. Eskel is here, alone, and by gods, it’s even better than your daydream. The bath is large, rising up from where it is set into the floor. There are steps leading to the ledge, and along the side of the bath is an extra compartment where there are numerous oils, soaps, lotions, and salts, and a large cup for rinsing. There are no windows, the only light in the room coming from the dozens of unscented candles that line the walls.
Steam rises from the water, swirls and spirals hypnotizing as it twists through the air. It comes up to Eskel’s chest, lapping right along a scar that he has just below his sternum. He is stretched out, languidly resting his arms along the ledge of the bath as he swirls the water lazily with his finger. Candlelight dances over his skin, gracing his features in its grasp.
His voice pulls you from your (quite overt) gawking. “You’re more than welcome to join me in here, I don’t think there are any other empty ones.” Eskel smiles, bringing a warmth to his face that he reserves for only a select few people. You nod, shutting the door behind you.
You move to the wall where there are several hooks, glancing behind you to see Eskel shut his eyes and lean further back into the water. You’ve never been shy of your body, but you appreciate the gesture of politeness nonetheless. You slide the towel down and hang it up before padding across the tiled floor toward the bath.
As you slip into the water, the warmth kissing up your legs, you can’t help the small sigh of relief that escapes your lips. You lower yourself into the bath across from Eskel, moaning as the hazy water envelops you. Stretching out, you accidentally knock your leg against Eskel’s where it sits in the water, murmuring a small apology after. He is still leaning back with his eyes closed, but his fist is clenched at the edge of the bath.
You sit in comfortable silence for a while, allowing your stresses to melt away into peaceful contentment. Quickly, though, you grow restless, and wonder what it would feel like to run your fingers through Eskel’s hair, to have him lean back against you as you show him a tenderness that is so rarely given to him. Soon, your thoughts become overwhelming and you find yourself far too confident for your own good.
“W-wouldyoulikemetowashyourhair?” you blurt out, shattering the quiet lull that had settled in the room. Eskel blinks an eye open, striking gold illuminating the dim room. Your chest rises and falls with your breaths, the water caressing the peaks of your breasts just below the surface. You wonder if Eskel can hear your heart pounding under your skin as he shifts to sit up a bit. He blinks a few times, shaking away his private tranquility.
You almost start to feel guilty for pulling him from his relaxation, but you hear him whisper, almost inaudible, “If-if you’re sure you wouldn’t mind…” Eskel’s voice trails off at the edge, low and raspy as he looks over at you.
“Not at all, dear,” you hum before rising, moving to settle next to him in the bath. You feel the water running down your exposed chest, dripping along your stomach as it reaches the surface. Eskel’s eyes track your every move, burning as they trace your form, capturing every minute detail possible.
You reach behind you, thumbing through the different tinctures beside the bath. “Any preference?” you ask, and he hums noncommittally. You raise a few to your nose, trying to find one that is not too strong. You know that Eskel’s nose is quite sensitive, so you try to find one that is mild enough to soothe him but keep him smelling nice and not like he’s been traveling with a goat for weeks (which he has.)
You settle on one that smells vaguely of sage and citrus before presenting it to Eskel for confirmation. “Is this one okay?”
His brow furrows, seemingly confused that you cared to ask. He leans forward, scenting the bottle lightly. You see his features relax, smoothing down into something you could almost call relief. Eskel looks up at you and nods, a smile peeking from his lips, pulled up at the edge by the scar that cuts through them.
The air is thick with steam and tension, clawing at your chest as you close the distance between you. “Alright,” your voice soft as freshly strewn petals flowing on the wind, “turn ‘round and duck under.”
Eskel does, unceremoniously dunking his head beneath the surface, water rushing down the tanned lines of his back as he settles back in front of you. You pour some of the soap into your hand, setting it on the ledge before you rise to your knees behind him.
You start slowly, gently working the soap into a lather as you massage his scalp. You’re rewarded with a low groan, a sound that vibrates straight to your core. His hair is thick, the color of the bark of a mahogany tree, of burnt sugar atop a pastry, of sunlight glinting through a glass of dark whiskey. You scratch lightly against the nape of his neck, earning another moan from deep in his chest.
You move quietly, reverently, unhurried as you rub circles into his temples and run your nails along his scalp. Eskel shifts beneath you, adjusting how he’s sitting before leaning against you. You can tell that he’s not resting his full weight on you, scared of knocking you backwards into the water. He is warm against you, steady and strong, anchoring you in your thoughts.
You hum lightly, letting him relax in your arms as you smooth some of the lather down his neck and across his shoulders. Eskel finally relents, his head falling backwards to lean against your chest and his eyes falling closed with a soft sigh.
Once you are satisfied with his cleanliness you reach for the cup, tilting Eskel back gently as you pour water over his hair. You hold a hand right at his hairline, shielding his eyes from the harsh sting of soap, smoothing it back as you rinse the white suds from their perch on his head.
You return the cup to its place and guide Eskel back to his spot, holding him tight against you as he moves to settle elsewhere in the bath. He stills under your hands, their touch firm but soothing.
“Yo-you don’t have to…” he murmurs, swallowing thickly as you stroke your thumb lightly across his skin.
“I’d like to,” you hum, Eskel sighing contentedly as he leans back into you.
You knead into the muscles of his shoulders, working out knots with nimble fingers. Your hands rove down his chest, swirling soap along scarred skin. Eskel inhales sharply as you brush over one of his nipples, your eyebrow quirking in interest.
You lean forward, pressing yourself fully into Eskel as you lose yourself in the gentle patterns you trace along his skin. Your mind wanders once more, contemplating the other little noises he might make under your touch. You feel heat growing low in your stomach, something lazy as it unfurls.
Eskel shifts against you and you look over to him. He is still resting at the crook of your shoulder, but he has turned towards you. He leisurely blinks his eyes open, finding your gaze with ease as his lips turn up in a small grin.
“I-may I kiss you?” Eskel’s eyes glance down to your lips before returning to you. You nod, not trusting yourself with words at the moment, bringing your head down to meet him.
When your mouths meet, it is something small, tentative. But when you feel Eskel pull away you follow him, capturing his lips between your own. He moans into you, shifting and turning in your grasp so that he is facing you properly. Eskel wraps his arms around your waist, pulling you flush against him as he licks into your mouth. You gladly oblige, running your fingers through his hair and down his chest. You can feel the hardness of his cock against your thigh and it sends you reeling, a shiver coursing up your spine.
Eskel’s hands, rough and calloused on your hips, pull you forwards with him until you are straddling his lap. You pull back from him for a moment, determined to take your time with him. You cup his face gently, your hand resting against the rough planes of his cheek perhaps the most beautiful sight you’ve seen.
Eskel is looking deep into your eyes, wordlessly vulnerable as he doubts that you’d want to be in this position with him. You can see the dance of gold flashing back and forth between your own eyes, searching for the fear or disgust that he thinks just has to be here.
“Stop thinking so much,” your murmur against his mouth, pulling him in once more. You can feel the moment Eskel accepts you, his hands squeezing the soft skin of your hips as he leans into you. His hands move slowly, one moving up to take one of your breasts in its hold. He kisses slowly down your neck, just the slightest glance of teeth along your collarbone enough to have you whining in his grasp.
Eskel smiles up at you, all toothy and impish before taking the peak of your breast between his lips. His hand moves in tandem on the other, kneading and smoothing as his mouth suckles and leaves little love bites. You card a hand through his hair, still a bit damp but beginning to dry into soft, silky threads. His mouth and hand switch places, ravishing and smoldering heat on the tender skin of your chest.
Right as Eskel’s mouth brushes across your nipple, you feel his cock throb in the water, pressing against your core for the briefest moment. A burst of heat soars along your veins and your hips grind forward, chasing him, craving that delicious burn of his desire.
“Please, Eskel, I need you…” you moan, your voice dark and lined with stardust that bursts behind the eyes. Your fingers are laced through his hair, and you feel the gentle drops of water drip from it as his face rises back to yours.
He is only a heartbeat’s distance from you, steady and safe in the storm of arousal. “Gods,” he growls, the sound striking low and deep within you, “but you sound so nice when you beg.”
Eskel surges forward and captures your lips, power crackling in the edges of your eyelids as he grips you tightly, as if worried you would be swept away with the tide. You moan into his mouth and move one of your hands lower, sweeping over the expanse of his chest, lines of scars cutting through the light dusting of hair.
As you reach the bottom of his abdomen and wrap your hand around his cock, Eskel’s hands rove over any bit of you that he can reach. His hands are thorough, mapping your body as he traces the constellations of marks along your skin. He is hard and heavy in your hand and when you drag your hand along the length of him you feel him tense beneath you, his head falling back against the edge of the bath when you circle your thumb around the tip.
You raise your hips and Eskel raises his head back to you, his eyes practically glowing in the candlelight. You line his cock at your entrance, teasing the tip through the wetness of your fold. Eskel tightens the grip on your hips, keeping you from sinking onto him and instead holding you in place. You can see a vein in his jaw tick with the effort, his willpower bending with every move of your hips.
“Are you sure? You don’t have to-”
Your hands travel back to settle on the sides of his face, caressing him softly as you echo your earlier sentiment, “I’d like to…”
Eskel’s hands are still strong on your sides but he relaxes a bit, allowing you to slowly work your way down his length. You move leisurely, the stretch of his cock burning into pleasure, wild embers sparking up your spine. When you are fully seated in his lap you stall, indulging in the fullness in your cunt. You feel Eskel throb impatiently within you and he groans into your mouth, close enough to share a breath.
“Please,” you whisper, catching his lips lightly. Eskel’s hands move to settle under your back, rubbing circles into the soft flesh. He lifts you, the velvet of your cunt dragging along his cock deliciously. You start to rock your hips into him slowly, meeting his movements as he thrusts. The water swells around you, waves breaking along the edge of the bath as you lose each other in a whirlpool of pleasure.
The world outside of this small alcove of the bathhouse has ceased to exist, leaving only you and Eskel, intertwined with each other, both seeking the same end. He spears up into you, his hips snapping against yours as he holds you steady. You can feel your climax building as he hits the bundle of nerves deep within your core with every thrust of his hips.
“Eskel, please, please just-ooh right there,” he snakes a hand around to your front and rubs his thumb in tight circles against the peak of your cunt. You cry out, everything being simultaneously too much and not enough as you see white behind your eyes. The fire courses through your veins as your back arches in pleasure, Eskel keeping his pace up, prolonging your pleasure.
This must be what magic feels like, you think, falling slack against his body as he finds his own release within you. Eskel’s thrusts turn sloppy, his hands grasping and wild along your skin. He moans your name into your neck, sucking a mark into the skin as he stills deep within your core. Your walls flutter around him as he spills, a hot, thick torrent of his spend bursting into you. You hold him close, whispering sweet nothings into his ear as he regains his bearings.
The water of the bath still gently swells, the waves not yet settled from your passion. Eskel lifts his head from your neck, worry plaguing the beautiful gold that shines in his eyes. You lean forward, sweetly capturing his lips in a kiss that you try to push all of your adoration and care into, hoping that he can translate the meaning in unsaid words.
Thankfully, he can.

Can you please do a Dewey x Reader with the song ‘Naked’ by James Arthur?
What a song to end my requests on, damn. Thank you for requesting this, whoever you are. Now, allow me to make this entirely about myself.
A bit more than a year ago, I had an opportunity to say something to somebody, and while I meant everything I said to him, I didn’t say everything I meant. This is what I should have said.
Warnings: a breakup
Words: 1,540
Hey, you there.
Shirts, socks, pants, toothbrush, chord charts, guitar picks – including the one that had fallen behind the radiator in your living room and you’d never bothered to fish out.
Can we take it to the next level, baby, do you dare?
By the time you had all of Dewey’s things together in the gym bag you never used it was mostly dark outside. Cloudy skies again, but you felt clearer than you had in months. Since you started dating Dewey. You cared about him, more than you could express in just one day. It would likely take months for you to fully process your feelings. But enough of them had made it into the clearing of what mental space you could spare for you to know what needed to happen now.
Dewey needed to leave.
‘Cause if you can’t say the words…
You had been waiting long enough.
I don’t know why I should care.
You were sitting on the couch beside the bag when he got to your place from work.
“Hey, babe!” he greeted you, breathless, eyes shining. He stomped the snow from his boots and kicked them off at the door. What little of his face you could see between his hat and scarf was red from the cold. His nose was especially bright.
Dewey was adorable, and the thought was a pang in your heart. Still, you waited patiently for him to finish filling you in on his day so you could tell him what was on your mind. No going back now.
“…so Freddy’s losing his friggin’ mind at this point, Lawrence can’t focus on what he’s doing, the backup singers have stopped. And then April comes in with this sick riff and Freddy loses track of what he’s doing…” Dewey collapsed onto the couch on the other side of the bag. You just watched him. “Those kids are amazing, I swear.”
Yeah, I’m right here…
Dewey leaned his arm on the gym bag and shook his head. Then he stopped, frowned, and looked down at the bag. “Hey, babe?”
“Hm.”
“What’s this doing out here?” For the first time since arriving at your apartment, Dewey looked at your face. Panic immediately spiked in his eyes. “What?”
I’m trying to make it clear…
“We need to talk,” you said quietly. This wasn’t the way you wanted to start, but what else were you supposed to say?
That getting half of you just ain’t enough.
Dewey hesitated, but shifted to face you more fully. “Okay. What’s up?” He tried to laugh, but it seemed to get caught somewhere in his throat.
You took a breath, trying not to be too dramatic but needing to steady yourself. “Okay,” you muttered. Then you turned your gaze fully to your partner.
I’m standing here naked.
“We don’t fit into each other’s lives as well as we used to,” you said. “I know you’ve been busy, and you know I have been too. But I have been trying to make a space for you, and I’m not really feeling that from you.”
Dewey tried to give you a look. “Well, that’s not really–”
You held up a hand. “Let me say this.”
More surprised than anything, it seemed, Dewey closed his mouth. You took another short breath and pressed on with your rehearsed monologue.
The mirrors in your apartment had probably had enough of you.
“Now, I know that I have a tendency to worry about my relationships--all of my relationships when they start feeling distant.” That much was true. “But I also know that if I don’t trust my instincts, I usually end up out on my ass.” That was also true.
You laughed then, lightly, trying to lift some of the heaviness between the two of you. The corners of Dewey’s mouth turned up ever so slightly, and you silently congratulated yourself.
“And what my instincts are telling me is to screw censoring my feelings. Because I have been,” you admitted. Dewey nodded, possibly in understanding, or maybe in agreement – you weren’t sure. Still, you continued and said, for the first time, “I kinda love you, Dewey.”
He stopped moving.
You rolled your eyes at yourself. “No, not ‘kinda.’ I do.” You looked at him again. He seemed paler than usual, but he was maintaining a poker face. “And I know you don’t feel the same, and I wish I could be okay with that. But, um…” You tried to keep from twisting your lips. Dewey said your name, but you held up a hand again. Your hand was shaking. You decided not to care. “But it’s not.”
Hey, get out.
“Maybe it’s a matter of time – or timing – or maybe it’s not. I don’t think it really matters. We’ve been together for four months, and I’m already the one who cares more.”
I’ve got nothing left to give, and you give me nothing now.
“Again,” you muttered, mostly to yourself and looking at the back of the couch rather than at Dewey. He was still watching you. “And I think it’ll probably stay that way.”
“Do you?” Dewey asked faintly.
“Yeah, my heart doesn’t like to let people go. It’s kinda stubborn that way.”
“And you don’t think that I’ll…” He swallowed. “I mean, it’s not like I don’t care about you.”
“I know.”
“‘Cause I do. I care a lot. I think you’re amazing.”
“I--yeah, you too.” You tried to keep your tone self-aware enough that he would get the joke. He seemed to.
“I’m just not–”
“I know. But I am.”
I wanna give you everything.
For the first time since Dewey had sat down, you checked in with yourself. Your heart was throbbing. You had known this would be hard, but God, this sucked. Then again, this was also the most honest you had ever been with Dewey.
In the four months that you had been together, you had connected at least a hundred times over dozens of subjects. Dewey got you. He got you in a way you weren’t sure you would ever find again, and the thought was terrifying. So you had put this off. When he started cancelling your plans at the last minute, for reasons he had ‘forgotten’ to tell you about, you set your frustration aside. When he started forgetting you existed unless you were directly in front of him, you brushed off the hurt. When he stopped making plans with you altogether, you tried to get over it. You really, really tried.
He wasn’t as bad as all that, really. Dewey had bright eyes that seemed to glimmer when he was excited about something. He had clusters of freckles across his back that danced in the morning sun. His laugh was the most beautiful sound you had ever heard. Dewey was kind (mostly), and reliable (when he wanted), and thoughtful (usually), and brilliant (always) and stunning. Yes, he was stunning most of all.
And you loved him. You loved Smart Dewey, and Drunk Dewey, and Musical Dewey, and 2AM Dewey making weird noises and dancing around the room. You loved his wild hair, his smile, the way he would prod at you when he wanted to understand something. His sloping shoulders and soft lines. How could you ever have not loved him? From minute one you hadn’t stood a chance.
It sucked.
And it was only a matter of time until it all boiled over and you both fell apart. You would always love him; you knew that in a way you had never known anything before. You also knew that letting go now was the right thing to do.
I’m not gonna wait until you’re gone.
“I don’t know if this hurts you, but if it does, I’m sorry I have to do it.” You had never been this honest with him before, and the look in Dewey’s eyes told you that he knew it.
‘Cause you pretended you don’t need anyone.
He shook his head. “I’m sorry for being an asshole.”
“Thanks.”
Can’t you see that I’m naked?
“Will I see you again?” he asked.
Your mouth formed a solid line, and you suspected you had that small frown above your nose you only got when you didn’t know what to say.
Dewey looked away. “Oh.” He nodded. “Okay.”
See that I’m naked!
Your ex-partner wrapped his hand around the handles of his gym bag without asking what was in it. He had to know. He stood and walked back to the door, and set the bag down.
I’m not gonna try until you decide…
Dewey put on his coat, then his scarf, then his hat, then his boots. Then he picked the bag up again, gave you a parting glance, and turned back to the door. He squared his shoulders and left.
You’re ready to swallow all your pride.
And just like that, he was gone.
For months, you would cry about this moment. In your car, in your bed, on various friends’ couches and shoulders. Your mind would find some new detail to fixate on every two or three weeks, and you would lose it all over again.
I’m standing here naked.
You would wish he had told you exactly how he was feeling. You would wish you had told him just how much you loved him.
I’m standing here naked.
You would realize that you would likely never see his eyes again, and that the last time you had seen them they had been so, so dark. There were a million little things that would hurt you so deeply.
I’m standing…
And, eventually, you would come to see that you had done the right thing. You really had.
For now, though, all you could do was stand and lock the door. Dewey had left his key with you. You turned the deadbolt and felt the click in your bones.
I’m standing here.

Life Between the Years
A/N: Finally, the first of the Billy Russo requests in the Play The Hand You’re Dealt event! This should be read immediately after Part 10 of I See You. It isn’t included in the main story because it’s a very small snapshot of a moment that doesn’t change the course of the plot, but it’s still important.
Word Count: 1,644
Request from: @luminex3 Billy, General, Memories and Photos & Billy’s POV
Slowly, Billy opened his eyes as the tired old A.C. unit kicked on. The soft gentle hum sent cool air through the vents to chase the thickening summer heat back through the glass of the window panes and the cracks in the foundation of your decades old building. He’d been drifting in and out of consciousness since you curled back around his body, casting his heavy eyes downward to see you still sleeping. The familiar ache of the badly healed scar tissue in his shoulder twinged, but he resisted the urge to move or stretch, fighting for as many minutes with your cheek tucked against his chest and your breath hitting his skin as he could get. Five more minutes… just five more minutes like this.
You burrowed even closer and he winced, your forehead pressing into the repaired rotator cuff as you made your adjustment. But it wasn’t the sharp pain that clamped his eyelids shut or sent a string of silent swears through his head- it was the idea that even after everything you’d shared with him, after you’d given yourself to him in the most complete way that anyone ever had, that it would somehow still manage to shatter. Just because I was a liar doesn’t mean everyone is… and she’d never, she wouldn’t… Billy opened his eyes again as you settled your arm across his waist. The stiff ache dissipated, weakening until it vanished just like the hot, stagnant air in the room. Five minutes wouldn’t be enough anyway.
Not to make up for all of the time he’d missed, all the parts of your life that he hadn’t been there for. His fingers twitched where they rested atop your hip, and he bent them to run his knuckles over your skin. Billy focused on the way his bones slid over yours, committing the sensation to memory like he should have done years ago. He watched the movement of his digits over your body as the room brightened around you both, the sunlight finally flooding in, filtered by the thin white curtains covering the windows. It had still been dark in the early hours of the morning when he took your hand and followed you down the hall, your fingers curled around his palm and the shadows curled around the corners of the room. The gray, colorless veil of the in between still hung over the sleeping world as you took him into your bed, the two of you falling together before the sun had fully risen over the horizon.
But now the golden glow of morning was showing him things he never thought he’d see; Your hair swirled in patterns on the pillowcase and against the crook of his arm, the sheets bunched and wrinkled, draped loosely over your lower limbs and displaced around your tangled bodies. His touch skimmed over your hip, eyes following his fingertips as they traveled up your side. Never thought I’d… he swallowed, finally adjusting his hold on you to alleviate some of the discomfort in his shoulder. Holding his breath, he re-positioned you against his chest and changed the angle of the arm that he had around you, waiting a few seconds to make sure that you were still asleep before he exhaled slowly. Never thought I’d get this chance. His thumb swept gently over your abdomen, trying to feel you in every ridge of his fingerprint. Not after all this time, all this...bullshit.
Billy clamped his eyes shut tight against the memories of his mistakes, not wanting to let them slash through this perfect moment. The sound of a heavy door slamming somewhere in the building made his eyes snap back open, and a cluster of photos and decorative items that he hadn’t noticed the night before caught his attention before it could fall back to you. He squinted to get a better look without leaving the bed. The first was one of you and Lexi, one that he’d seen from years ago, the two of you at a Red Sox game when you still called Boston home. But it was the only one he recognized, the other frames holding the faces of strangers in places he didn’t know. The other items that hung included souvenirs from trips you’d taken, and he realized that it wasn’t just time and bullshit that filled the chasm that he thought he’d never cross. It’s life, too. And he’d missed years of yours. Years of details, of laughter and struggle, moments and phrases and phone calls. Years of…
The thought crumbled as he took in the last thing hanging on the wall, a French memo board covered in postcards, letters, and cards for all occasions. He sucked in a breath then, as one folded, yellowed piece of lined paper trapped beneath the criss-crossed black ribbon stole his focus. Tucked halfway behind a postcard from Cancun, Billy found his own handwriting, the letters slanting at a uniform angle, ink pressed firmly into the page like an etching. He had no idea which letter it was, what had made that one worthy of a special place on the wall, or if there were more of them up there, but none of that mattered more than the fact that it was up there. I’ve always been part of her life…even through those years… He sighed, unable to keep it in, unable to control himself from disrupting your sleep anymore, dipping his chin down to press his lips against your forehead. Even after I cut her out.
He kissed you again, his lips finding the corner of your eyebrow next, not stopping even as he felt your breathing change, or the movement of your arm as it slid from his waist to his chest. You hummed as he dragged his bearded cheek over your smooth, warm skin, the arm he had around you tightening. The chasm seemed to close just a few degrees as your fingers splayed over his racing heart. Still got a long way to go, but… He thought about all he still had to tell you, but only briefly, preferring, just for now, to think about what you could tell him. Fill in those years. Reaching for your face with his free hand, he pulled you close enough to match your lips with his. You responded almost instantly, kissing him back the second that you recovered from the gasp he’d drawn, which in turn caused his lips to curve upwards. Pulling back, he watched a dizzy smile pull at your mouth.
You settled back against him as he resumed the gentle touch he’d been trailing up and down your side while you slept, your fingers mirroring the motion where they skated over some of the small scars that dotted his bicep. “You’ve been awake a while, Billy.”
It wasn’t a question. I have. “Yeah.” His fingers froze midway up your rib cage, but resumed as he felt your lips find a home near his collarbone.
“Is everything… are you... “ Your voice wavered the tiniest amount, your forehead wrinkling, the stippled scar at the corner of your eye pinching and going pale.
Tilting your chin back up towards his face, he cut you off, his hand circling around to cup your cheek, thumb finding your scar to smooth your worry away. “Hey,” Billy spoke your name, brushing hair away from your eyes with his pinky finger. “I’m right where I wanna be, okay?” He kissed your forehead again, then felt you nod. “I promise.” Billy had the odd sensation of feeling the weight of the word for perhaps the first time in his life without looking for a way to lessen it. “I was just… I was…” He sighed. “I wanted to…” You prompted him, whispering his name, and he cleared his throat and continued, tongue flicking out to lick at his suddenly dry lips. “I wanted to remember everythin’ about this morning… about you. There’s still…” Still so much you don’t know, still so much that could go wrong and I...
“Billy.” You said his name a little louder this time, raising your hand from his arm up to rest against his cheek. He went silent, eyes searching your face as your pointer finger followed the sickle shaped scar beneath his eye. That’s… The way it felt when you touched him like that made it hard to believe that he had been hesitant to let you. Your hand slipped around to the back of his neck and you gently pulled him down into a kiss, stopping just before your lips met his. “I won’t let you forget. I promise.” You closed the distance, but didn’t linger, instead slipping out from under him as you pulled away. Hey, where are… You smiled as you stood, letting the sheet fall away from your body as he tried to grab for your hand. “I’m gonna go shower, then we should get some coffee and,” your smile twitched, just a flinch of a nerve, but he noticed the way it narrowed your left eye a fraction more than the right. “And we’ll keep talking. I’m sure there’s more you…” You dropped your chin as you cleared your throat, but brought your smile back to him before he could question it. “There’s still a lot to cover. But Billy?”
He swallowed, half stunned by your form standing naked in the sunlight. “Yeah?”
“We’ve got time now, so much time… we’ll get there, I promise that too.”
“Yeah,” he felt a warm flood in his chest, stronger than ever before. “Yeah, we will.” Together. He watched you walk away, the letters and postcards on the board fluttering in your wake. He waited for the sound of water rushing through shuddering pipes before taking a deep breath and sitting up in your bed.
One step at a time, he’d fill that chasm.

Batfam Whumptober Day Two
{Read on Ao3}
No. 2: “Pick Who Dies” | Collars | Kidnapped
Summary: Cassandra is kidnapped as a Wayne for the first time. Knowing Bruce would want her to stay out and wait for help, she doesn't fight back. However, this reminds her of when she couldn't fight, and Cass finds herself hating the helplessness. As she is being manhandled and used for ransom, she fears being unable to fight back.
A/N: So I wanted to write something for Cass, ‘cause there’s really not enough hurt/comfort out there for her. Lot’s of people portray her as perfect, and I get it, she’s Cassandra Cain, and absolutely awesome, but I think it takes away from her character to assume she’s confident 24/7. Not sure if I did her credit here, but the intent is still there.
Where did the humor come from? You’ll never know.
TW: Referenced child abuse (Cass briefly remembers Cain. Nothing graphic)
Cass smiled at the stray cat walking by the café where she was currently enjoying coffee with Dick and Steph. It was small and a bit scrappy, but still had a beautiful blue-gray coat. She briefly considered hunting it down and bringing it back for Damian, knowing not even Bruce could say no to her. But she decided against it, wanting to stay and enjoy her afternoon. They were almost done, anyway.
“And then Jason announced he was gonna run away to vegas and become a stripper!”
Cassandra turned back to where Dick had just finished a rousing tail of the dangers of a high Jason todd. Stephanie snorted out her tea, and even Cass gave a little smile.
“You give him pointers?” She asked. It was an inside joke with the family to call Dick a stripper. It was made worse when it was revealed he could pole dance.
Dick’s eyes went wide, and Stephanie’s roaring laughter renewed. “I thought you were the good one!” He whisper-yelled, clearly shocked.
Cass smiled coyly at her older brother. “I am.”
Stephanie finally settled down enough to chokingly announce: “Not that Bruce knows!”
Dick frowned good naturedly. “Y’know,” he began, “there was a time when I was the favorite child.”
Cass nodded. “Then Jason came. Thank you both for saving my spot.”
Dick squawked, Steph cackled, Cassandra smirked into her coffee, and they went back to enjoying their day out.
*****
It was twenty minutes later when Cass saw them. Three men in civilian clothes who had been following them from the coffee shop that they had left from a few minutes ago. Neither Dick nor Steph had noticed them, as they hadn’t interacted with each other. But Cass could tell.
“Wanna go to the movies next?” Steph asked, pointed to a theatre less than a block away.
Cass glanced back at the men, then towards the theatre. “Yes,” she said, “But hurry.”
Stephanie and Dick frowned at her before following Cass’s gaze.
“Oh crap,” her brother said before casually turning around. He grabbed Cass and Steph’s hands and began to lead them towards the theatre.
They had almost reached the doors when a large black van pulled up. The three men jumped forward and each grabbed their own Wayne. Stephanie managed to smack hers away with her purse - Cass was 87% sure she kept a brick in it at all times - and Dick elbowed his in the gut.
But there wasn’t much more they could do. Every Gotham vigilante knew better than to show off their fighting skills in public - sure some minor self defence skills were passable - and so the trio was at a loss.
Cass ducked under the arm of her attacker, but was caught off guard by Stephanie’s sudden shriek. She glanced over to find the man twisting her arm back.
Cass’s own attacker took this as an opportunity to grab her around her waist. Cass could only watch helplessly as she was pulled into the van.
“Leave them, we have a girl!” the driver called, seeing Stephanie bite her attacker.
Dick was thrown to the ground, and Stephanie shoved into a store window right before a black hood was thrown over her head, and everything went black.
*****
Cass was very still on the chair she had been tied to; the hood still over her head. She had been brought in after about ten minutes of driving, before being dragged into some warehouse by the docks.
The hood wasn’t completely dark, allowing her to spot multiple exit strategies, and take in her surroundings. She could have escaped twenty-four different times at this point. Twice that if she took action in the next thirty seconds.
But she didn’t.
Cass knew what Bruce would want, she had sat through The (what to do if you’re kidnapped) Talk, of course. Cassandra knew what the protocol was.
Stay in place.
Be a good hostage.
Don’t fight back.
Wait for someone to come get you.
Normally, Cass would be perfectly fine with following protocol - she wasn’t Jason who did the exact opposite just to piss Bruce off. But this time … it was different. This time she was anxious.
“We have the brat,” some thug called, “send the ransom demand.”
Cass bit her lip and strained her ears to pick up some snippets of conversation, but failed. There was a point, twenty minutes later, where she could have sworn she heard Bruce’s voice, but she was unable to pick out specific words.
And so she stewed, ignoring the bunching of her muscles, the intense urge to fight back and escape, to not be weak.
Suddenly, the hood was ripped off of her head. Cass blinked at the sudden brightness, her eyes taking a moment to focus on the pair of thugs before her.
“Head up, pretty thing,” one said, pulling a phone out of his pocket, “Your daddy wants proof of life.”
Cass raised her head - ‘be a good hostage’ ringing in her ears - and looked past the first man. His partner held the black hood, and had a distinct air of pity about him. Subtle, his fellow criminal not noticing.
But, oh.
That was it wasn’t it?
The pity.
Cassandra was thrown back, back to when that telepath had rerouted her brain. When she could speak. But no longer fight. She remembered the pity in Barbara’s eyes. Sure, the woman was excited that Cass could start to communicate, but the former batgirl had understood more than anyone the pain of being unable to protect. Bruce had been the same, hadn’t let her out.
She had felt so helpless then; so fundamentally wrong that it had hurt worse then Cain.
When she was with her father, she had known the expectations. There was never pity with David, only pain.
A flash showed in her eyes from the phone, and Cass winced. The hood was shoved back over her head, and the world was once again dark.
She’d lost her chance.
She hadn’t fought.
Cain would’ve berated her.
Perhaps Bruce would be proud.
Cass took this as comfort, trying to put the nervous tension in her bones out of her mind. This ‘following the rules’ became harder by the minute. In ten minutes, she was fighting down panic. Why was this so hard? Tim got kidnapped at least twice a month, Damian even more. Why couldn’t she handle this?
Cass took a shaky breath, licking her lips. She could do this. She would be strong. Not fighting was strong. She … she could do this.
Then she felt a body moving near her, and instantly tensed. Dozens of different tactics swirled through her mind. Stand up, break the chair and use the arms as escrima sticks. Dislocate her thumbs, slowly pull out of the restraints, and when someone comes close, aim for the nerve cluster in the right shoulder, sweep the leg.
A part of her was always scared of what she could do, but now more than ever. Did she really have enough self-control to stop an attack?
She didn’t have a chance to answer herself, as sudden sounds flurried around the room. Sounds of fighting: punches making contact, grunts, screams, bodies hitting the floor.
“Cassandra Cain?” A gloved hand rested on Cass’s shoulder, but she didn’t lash out. She smiled.
The hood was gently lifted off of her head, and Cass looked into the masked face of her brother, Dick.
“Hi.” she said, eyes wide.
“Hey there, Miss. Let’s get you out of here, ‘kay?”
Cassandra looked past him to where Spoiler was dealing with the last of the thugs. She gave a relieved smile. “Okay, Nightwing.”
Five minutes later Cass found herself wrapped in a shock blanket and sitting on the back of an ambulance. An officer had tried to get a statement out of her, but was quickly brushed off by the Commissioner. He was good friends with the Waynes, and consequently the only person Cass felt comfortable around at the moment. That was, until she heard a pair of familiar voices calling out from the crowd.
“Cass!” Stephanie shoved herself in front of Dick to wrap Cassandra in a tight hug. “Are you okay? We were so worried!”
“I’m fine,” she answered, giving a small smile. “Thank you.”
Steph did a conspiratorial wink before Dick stepped forward and wrapped her in a hug. “Hey sis,” he whispered in her ear, “you scared us.”
Cass shrugged. “Sorry.”
Dick shook his head. “Not your fault. You did the best you could. How about we head home and watch a movie? I’m proud of you.”
And that? That made this all worth it.
