To all my creatives out there; you’re not a flop because your artwork didn’t get 100 likes, or because your video didn’t hit the 1k view mark, or you lost a few followers. You didn’t get ‘worse’ and people don’t suddenly hate what you’re putting out there. Sometimes you just get less engagement, but it’s not because you’re making ‘bad’ art!

Keep creating and making things YOU enjoy! You have to be your own biggest fan!

Keep Writing, Keep Creating

With all the conversations going on over the past few days in the Dreamling fandom - I think a lot of people could be feeling stalled on their writing/art in one way or another on stuff they might have had in progress.

This is your nudge.

(Cause I'm feeling it, too.)

Take a deep breath and keep writing.

Take a deep breath and keep drawing.

Take a deep breath and keep creating those metas, making those gifsets, designing those moodboards, making memes, you name it.

You can keep something in mind - and be aware of it - and not address it in your current project. That's okay. Allow people to be critical of characters, of the show, in their own spaces, and focus on your own works and projects. You don't need to engage, and in fact, it's better if you don't.

it's so easy to get discouraged on social media. from comparing ourselves to others' successes to equating our worth based on likes and follower counts. creating no longer becomes fun. it's exhausting making sure every post is perfect for others. the numbers determine if you're considered good enough.

sometimes it makes me want to quit drawing and writing all together.

but when we lose sight of things we gotta take a step back and remember. you do this because it brings you joy. you're passionate about it. you're proud of your abilities. your worth as a creator and person is not based on simple digits.

don't focus on what other people are doing. don't stop creating just because of social media's performance aspect. just keep doing what you're doing. what you bring to the table is perfect and enough.

you are enough. i love you.

ive never done drugs or smoked in my life before but several of my characters do. i also write a lot about drug addiction, as well as a bunch of other serious/dark topics that i myself have never experienced. maybe im just being sensitive but seeing that anon was honestly pretty discouraging, i like to write about this stuff because i find it interesting, and now i’m worried that maybe i’m doing something wrong

I think as long as you’re sensitive about the subject and handle it with respect I don’t think there’s anything wrong with that??

There’s this new wave of internet sensitivity where no one is allowed to create or write about anything they don’t know firsthand which is so so so stupid

There is a lot I love about the Rise of the TMNT fandom. Most of them are younger than me, and their artistic takes and talents make the fandom a delight. It gives me hope for fandom, honestly -- the next gen is making beautiful, wonderful things.

Some of my favorites:

TAILS! I LOVE the addition of tails in many of the arts! Especially Raph's. I wish the tails were canon, but the fanart brings me joy.

The human versions of the turtles where they are POC's and Leo has vitiligo. These are the only human takes I can accept because it just screams them.

The Splinter arts where he's a frazzled single parent just trying to love his boys and do his best. I'm a married parent, but I still feel SEEN.

ALL THE AU's!! Oh my goodness, this fandom's AU's are some of the best I have seen in a long time.

All the April love. I mean, come on-- Rise!April is the BEST April and I will die on that hill.

I just want to say it’s super empowering as an artist to see things like “this isn’t cannon” or “that’s not how it is in the game” and to then have the power to say screw you and make it exist anyway….

don't beat yourself up for your pace, enjoy (and trust) the process

your works should primarily target your interests

prioritize real life tasks, this can wait

don't let the numbers define you but use it as a guide if you wish to grow your audience

if it's not fun, it's okay to drop it (if it sucks hit da bricks, real winners QUIT)
