i love all of @gin-juice-tonic's trans stan twins comics and i've centered all my gf beliefs around them, but i can't stop thinking about how funny it would be for stan to be a trans man and ford to be a trans woman.
imagine you're stan and you've been disowned for about ten years and haven't seen your family at all since, and during that time you've found and lost yourself more times than you can count, but you've finally settled on the fact that you're a man and it's time for you to transition. and then as soon as can finally start testosterone, your twin brother wants to see you ASAP.
and so you're stressed out the entire way there, not just because your brother seems to have gotten into some trouble, but because you have no clue how he's gonna react to you now being his brother.
only for him to not even notice or say a single thing about your new wardrobe that still has some of the tags from when you shoplifted it or about the scruff on your chin that you've been pretty proud of.
no, instead he's going on about the fbi and people who want to steal his skin or something.
and so everything happens the same way, and stan has essentially gotten the life he's always wanted: everyone thinks he's his genius brother, he's still in contact with his family (though stanford didn't exactly call home everyday so neither does he), and he's a man — and not one person doubts it. except he's not the man he's always wanted to be because he doesn't have his brother beside him throughout it all, becoming a man with him.
and then stanford comes back and is impossibly autistic and bitter so he just assumes stan went through the process of transition (assuming he used some gender changing potion he found noted about in the journal) just to further steal ford's identity.
and stan explains, no, you fucking idiot, i've been a man for thirty-something odd years and you just didn't notice because you were too busy being insane. and so yeah, that's how stan's whole coming out goes.
and ford just responds with, "oh. yeah, me too. she/they is fine."

I bought an 8bitdo Retro mechanical keyboard!
Tumblr media
(Picture not mine, source from PC World.)
I wanted a plastic keyboard, I really do not actually use the knob on a Keychron board I have, it still comes in a scooped keycap profile, and it has a companion numpad with a calculator built in. Win/win/win!
This keyboard comes in four designs (not colorways, full designs) themed after the NES, the Famicom, the IBM Model M, and the Commodore 64 keyboard. The NES keycaps have multiple different fonts on them, the Famicom keycaps have Japanese sublegends, the Model M keycaps have a mock stepped Caps Lock key, and the Commodore 64 keycaps are an apparently off-the-shelf SA set from one of many, many, many keycap companies floating around China (I recognize their font and profile shape from Akko ASA keycaps and numerous other scooped profile keycap sets you can have cheaply off of Aliexpress and Amazon. Do check those out, genuinely, you'd struggle to find a bad scooped keycap set these days and I love scooped profiles over Cherry and OEM.)
The build quality of the actual keyboard itself is good, feels like a very similar plastic blend to what 8bitdo uses for its controllers like their Pro 2. Stabilizers are smooth and don't rattle, the legends on the keycaps are reasonably sharp and in NES-appropriate font, the keycaps themselves are MDA profile (I would prefer SA, but beggars can't be choosers) and are somewhat thin but still good quality, dye-sublimated PBT, no warp on the spacebar. Arrow keys are a separate color from the two tones that make up the main keycap set and made to resemble a d-pad. The keyboard itself is somewhat light, but my perception is skewed from using a metal keyboard for a long time, and this is after all a plastic shell, top-mounted keyboard. Even so I think I'll probably end up cracking open the keyboard and putting in some liquid silicone as noise-dampening and additional weight.
Two knobs control both wireless functionality and computer software volume, the wireless knob is heavy with only three options while the volume one is light with many individual steps. The volume knob can be somewhat unresponsive on individual steps. Bluetooth is very responsive and wants to pair with my computer the moment it's flicked over to, and 2.4ghz wireless comes with a receiver that slots into the back of the keyboard magnetically for storage. A power light on the right of the keyboard mimics the NES power light and pulses while charging, is steady while using wireless or when fully charged and connected over USB.
The underlying PCB is south-facing hotswap sockets (who the hell cares their orientation, this only matters for lighting, which this keyboard doesn't have). By default the keyboard comes with Kailh box whites, a very light clicky switch. I yanked them out immediately and put Boba U4T tactiles in because they're the king of all switches. They thunk nicely in this chassis, the Kailh whites weren't slouches either, they did pick a good stock choice for switch without resorting to Gateron or Outemu blue horseshit.
The NES version of the keyboard came with a two-button macro pad that hooks over TRRS cable (you recognize it as a 3.5mm jack or headphone cable) to one of four ports on the top-right of the keyboard. These are essentially just two keyboard switches with giant keycaps on a separate board and the buttons are populated by Gateron greens. The switches are nowhere close to heavy enough to approximate a button, and I gave them Kailh box navies. Still not enough, but better.
These keyboards also come wiiiiiith a companion number pad!
Tumblr media
While I don't actually have this one in hand just yet I do have it on order. It looks like it'll be about the same build quality as the main keyboard, and it caught my eye for four reasons and ended up making me purchase the full set as a result:
The numpad has a built in calculator.
Same aesthetic choices as the main keyboard (NES, Famicom, IBM Model M, Commodore 64)
Magnetically attaches to the right side of the keyboard to transform it into a more era appropriate full-size.
Far and away the cheapest wireless mechanical numpad with calculator on the market, sitting at $45.
An important note though is that the Famicom and NES keypads don't attach to their respective keyboards, simply because their respective keyboards don't have magnets inside the sides of the chassis to allow for it. I have some cheap button magnets laying around that I'll use for this purpose and probably see if they're strong enough to be placed on the inside of the board and allow for the numpad to connect to it. I also imagine there's going to be a repop or v2 of this keyboard in the future that has this done already, seeing as the Commodore 64 version of the board and I believe the Model M version of the board already have that.
I'll reblog this and give some actual definitive thoughts on the numpad once it's in my hands.
As far as the board itself is concerned, I quite like it. The keycap profile is agreeable, the nostalgia pandering targeted me with laser precision, the board sounds quite good acoustically (especially for being a top-mount keyboard!) and it has a volume knob I'll see if I can reprogram some day. While I normally hate TKL layouts, I'm putting up with it because it will eventually be a fullsize with the numpad. Worth $150 total? Don't know, can't answer that for you, it's worth it to me but I very specifically wanted a keyboard themed after an old Nintendo console with no setup required and no chasing down or commissioning GMK keycap sets. I also wanted a calculator numpad.

can we talk about the discussion of childhood obesity in school for a minute? Like... what the fuck was that about? Because that was so fucking traumatic. As THE fat kid? Everyone always looked at me when we were talking about childhood obesity. Did that shit ever help ANYONE??? Who was that for? I wasn't ever not going to be "obese", i was always fat, even when i played club soccer, even when i was in tap and ballet and gymnastics as a small child, when i was on the lunch league basketball team and played soccer during lunch, even when i would work out outside of school, biking 25miles with an extra 300lbs of dead weight on the front... i was never skinny enough. I could've benefited from learning about portion sizes, but the answer to childhood obesity was always "these foods are BAD and you're a BAD FATTY OBESE CHILD if you eat them! You're what's wrong with America!" And like... that couldn't have helped anyone. That could not have helped a single person. Like. Hello???

ive been thinking a lot about how adrien was supposed to be disabled during his concept development and how much of a missed opportunity the whole thing was, like. on one hand I honestly respect the writers for backing out of a topic they thought they wouldn’t be able to handle well; not to say the representation in miraculous is anything great but it shows they do care about it at the very least, which is more than most media can say. I also know this was a decision that came way before the show even started, but I feel like Tomoe Tsurugi is proof that they can write disabled characters and do it in a way that’s fairly decent, so i feel like they could still incorporate it in now since their prior concern is pretty much ruled out (they’re never gonna do this).
and narrative wise I think it would add very much to the entire Agreste family arc, like idk. you could have his disability be a result of the peacock’s damage, or damage to his Amok. have it be part of the reason why Gabriel is so controlling and isolating (ie; viewing his son as frail and made of glass now) and distant/abusive (viewing his son as now “less than perfect,” at least in terms of what he’d envisioned for a perfect child, and blaming Emilie’s sickness/death on it). Adrien’s modeling career is entirely just inspiration-sensationalism with a “hopeful ray of sunshine” public persona. it can even be important to cat noir, too! it’s still an escape from his home life and career, but it’s also a chance for adrien to show that he’s not as fragile as gabriel thinks. It’s his own way of having independence and autonomy and for once being someone that isn’t constantly pitied or made to pretend he’s a docile ray of sunshine constantly.
I’m also deeply autistic enough to say it could match with him being the holder of destruction; half of his life is centered around preserving him and, again, treating him like he’s made of glass. so why not give him the power to literally crack and shatter that glass? poetic cinema and all that. additionally it adds to both why he’s so unserious with his role as a superhero and why he values his partnership with ladybug so highly—he’s indulging in this new freedom while also recognizing that the partnership it comes with is about the only one where he’s genuinely treated as an equal and trusted to take his own part in something. that’s not to say I think all of his friends would instantly change personalities and baby him (especially not Nino) but let me tell you, even as someone who’s not physically disabled, the distinct feeling of being othered or unequal is there no matter how much support you have.
everybody knows this already but there’s just so much potential in everything that the writers don’t do reagghhhhhghhhh

PROSCIUTTO friendship ranking. Because why not?
Pesci. Usually this would be self explanatory but like. Pesci is like the one person on the team who actually respects him as a leader and who values his time. They do hang out together.
Risotto. Old bonds die hard. I KNOW they had the craziest breakup ever back in 98. They’re still good friends, even if neither of them act that affectionate to the other. Only other person Prosciutto feels “really gets him” on the team.
Melone. Definitely more on Melone’s side. He’ll try to strike up a conversation about whatever article he read recently about flies or dna or how the sun moves and Prosciutto says “uh-huh” while desperately wishing his cig was longer. They’ve tried hanging out once. Both wanna do it again
Sorbet. He’s more on Pro’s wavelength when it comes to missions. They were partners before Pesci came along, and they’re damn good at it. They don’t talk much outside of work though.
Gelato. Opposite issue. They talk a lot outside of work but Prosciutto just cannot wrap his head around Gelato. He’s the one man who’s never backed down from challenging him.
Ghiaccio. They just don’t talk. It’s nothing personal, Ghiaccio just dicks around a little too much for his liking.
Illuso. Dear god he hates him and his stupid stand. He HATES getting spied on and jabbed at for shit he did in private.
Formaggio. This lazy ass who doesn’t give a shit about fuck who keeps winning their soccer bets who hardly does his own work makes him so pissed. The worst part is Formaggio doesn’t even care that much about what he thinks which drives him mad
aaaaaaaaaaaAAAAAAAAAAGH i really love this one, i cant even add my own because its so close to his character, the only difference is that i really love the idea of Gelato being one of the Squadras first babysitters, hes got the "best judgement" of them and it makes my heart tight to think of Prosciutto adoring him as a mentor or even a,,,, fratello,,,

c!Punz reAwakens
Punz remembers Sapnap and remembers the horrible, aching pain of his entire world dropping away as everything fades out. He remembers danger like a constant alarm, Sapnap coming to stand in front of him, and then the world blinks and Punz's footing is sure beneath his feet even as Sapnap falls away from him.
Punz barely registers the lava-glow as he grabs Sapnap by the arm and drags him up and away to more stable ground (sand? When did he get to a desert).
Purpled is there, sword in hand and the corners of his eyes tight in the tell he'd never managed to lose showing just how upset he is. Purpled is screaming, and Quackity is there (there with a Blade, who is he, Dream and Punz knew about all the Blades on the server this wasn't one of them) with a crossbow.
It's simple, rote action to protect Purpled (his brother driver), as smoothly executed as it always has been. One arm around Purpled's shoulder (Punz's bare arm, aether lines flickering where there should be solid fabric) and Punz's enhanced strength and speed to pivot the boy behind him.
Punz used to have morbid thoughts about it saving to Procedural Memory, before the Memory Patch and before Dream. Crafted arrows are simple enough to knock away, to shatter in a single swipe as he prepares to stop this threat.
"That's enough."
"Punz?" Sapnap is pale and disbelieving, caught halfway between Punz and Quackity's new Blade. Punz doesn't want to point his blade at him, but he's treading on uncertain territory.
"Are you broken?" Asks the Blade. He looks like goop, and his core crystal is bright and obvious on the side of his head.
"What the hell? Get out of the way, Punz!" Quackity only thinks he's a threat; there are no rockets on the crossbow. Punz can sense a bit of aether about him now--the Blade is his. A touch of magic won't be enough to save him. The Blade came with him; better to target Quackity first to take out two threats.
The resonance is screaming, the yawning bit beneath his feet back as everything is swamped in horror from the emotional bleed. Punz beats it back, finds he footing in the rage that's been building all too strongly since Dream's staged defeat.
"No one is fighting anyone," it won't be enough to calm them down. It never is, not these days. Not since L'Manberg poisoned the very spirit of the server. Punz will start by using Nightmare on the Blade, and follow up from there. Sapnap isn't armored like he's expecting trouble, and what Quackity does have won't stand up to Punz's own Blade.
A shuffle and a thump, then an ender pearl. Purpled has abandoned the fight (good, at least he remembers some of what he was taught). But the Resonance still lingers close to the surface of his skin, as though his driver is near.
Dread aches across Punz's molars, makes every tooth in his mouth feel like knives. He wants to bite someone, taste blood in his teeth (they're not in Kinoko, he was just in Kinoko, where are they).
It really did feel like just a blink. No wonder Dream hated it.
"He's getting away!" Quackity is furious and his Blade is watching the space over Punz's shoulder. In a desert, Purpled would still be visible, even with a pearl.
Punz steps closer, smothering his passive with ruthless efficiency. He can't make people pay attention to him, like Dream, but he can stop making it hard for them to acknowledge him. They re-focus on him, Quackity and the Blade. Sapnap does too, and Punz focuses all his attention on him.
"Hello, my name is Punz. Are you my Driver?"
~
They go through normal introductions on their way back to Las Nevadas. The emotional bleed is a mess; they both feel the horror, the dread, the grief. c!Sapnap is new to the emotional bleed, he doesn't catch that the twinned emotions coming from both parties is creating something of a feedback loop that intensifies them. c!Punz does, but they're useful to sell the lie that he is telling.
Because Punz does know how to lie to his Driver. It comes with raising a kid and trying to keep them alive when the state of your existence is very fragile and they're too young to really understand mortality.
The trick to lying to your Driver is that you tell a truth, which is not necessarily the truth. It's a trick he picked up from a wind Blade a long time ago, and it's one that he's seen c!Skeppy use on c!Bad before. Managing the emotional bleed is tricky, but also long as you don't feel obviously guilty, it can be easy to subsume some emotions into others and change the flavor of the Resonance to something more expected.
The first question, after introductions, is downright predictable. Why did Punz protect c!Purpled instead of Sapnap, his Driver? My body just moved on it's own. "Procedural memory," whispers Sapnap, and the emotional bleed takes another nosedive.
Punz can't say he likes the situation. c!Quackity seems downright ecstatic about Sapnap being Punz's Driver, and Punz thinks his attitude has gotten worse since L'Manberg, if anything. And he still remembers the hours he spent with Sapnap before (the hours that he has to pretend he doesn't remember), where Sapnap opened up about Karl forgetting himself and Quackity apparently forgetting them.
c!Slimesicle has spent the entire walk just staring at Punz, even as Sapnap is getting more distressed and Quackity seems to be coming up with new, better plans now that he has Punz on his side.
As for Sapnap--Punz doesn't know how long it's been since they died and returned to being a core crystal, but Sapnap doesn't seem to be doing any better. If anything, he seems to be doing worse, for all that he's now reconciled with Quackity.
Punz wants to know how Dream is doing, if EW!Ranboo was able to keep him safe. Punz wants to let Purpled know that he's okay, that he didn't lose Punz, but Quackity seems like the kind of person who regularly check's his Blade's communicator and Punz isn't sure that Sapnap will stop him.
At least the past message history wiped when he died.
Quackity and his Blade drop Punz and Sapnap off in an apartment that is decorated perfectly to Sapnap's tastes. It looks sterile and unlived in, with only a few straggling bowls in the sink and none of the regular detritus of a comfortable home.
As Quackity and his Blade leave, the Blade's constant smile stretches up into something worse. "Goodbye, Punz of Reverie," he singsongs.
~
Punz is now Sapnap's Blade. While Sapnap knows a lot about Blade rights/ethics, this is his first time as a Driver. That means Punz is able to successfully hide a lot from him.
Punz's Las Nevadas arc is him keeping the Memory Patch secret (highly successful), observing Las Nevadas and it's goings on, and trying to see if he can confirm the status of Dream and EW!Ranboo.
Slime has pegged Punz as having a Memory Patch, like him. Slime thinks that Punz received it from Reverie, the Aegis Blade, instead of through experiments with Dream. Because your Don't Talk about gods and their Blades (and also because no one asks him directly) he doesn't actually say anything about it to anyone. The most he mentions of it is calling Punz "of Reverie" or "One of Reverie's."
Quackity is in full capitalist persona. He loves Sapnap and Karl. And they love him, even if things are rocky right now due to Karl's everything. He's sure that Sapnap will be willing to assist Quackity with Las Nevadas by lending out Punz's services as a Blade.
Sapnap is kind of a mess. He's both happy that he has Punz back, and kind of hates how it happened. He now firmly believes that Punz should have gone back to being Purpled's Blade, but isn't sure how to make that happen now. To transfer the Resonance back to Purpled, Punz would have to die.
This arc sees Punz becoming more sympathetic to Sapnap, as well as sounding out and confirming Sapnap's stance on Blade rights. He still thinks it would be dangerous for Sapnap to know about the Memory Patch (at least until it is guaranteed to be permanent), but he's less worried about what might happen if Sapnap meets Dream.
Unlike Dream and his Syndicate Arc, Punz doesn't feel guilty about lying to Sapnap about his memories. They do come to the realization that if he did have to have a Driver that wasn't Purpled or Dream, Sapnap is probably the one they'd choose. Punz also takes advantage of the emotional bleed letting him know when Sapnap is feeling down to initiate tactile comfort, such as bumping their shoulders together or (more rarely) hugs.
