crying thinking about Your Name hours anyway I can’t get over the date scene where Taki is absolutely crashing and burning and Miss Okudera says it’s like he’s a different person and how they walk through a museum showing pictures of Mitsuha’s town before it was destroyed but the audience and Taki don’t Get That Yet and the entire time her voice over explains the date and her theme plays in the background and at the end Taki finally tries to call her only for it to not go through because she’s already gone like ough the entire scene is defined by Mitsuha’s absence despite the fact that she’s EVERYWHERE in it

like it’s the moment that Taki realizes maybe he’s been in love with her the entire time but it’s narratively essentially Mitsuha’s funeral because it’s too late she’s been dead this entire time and it isn’t until Taki literally begs the gods for a chance to go back and save her that she returns to the story...

and even then, after all of that, he spends the one final chance he has to talk to her and maybe see her again telling her that he loves her....because that’s what’s important to him, that’s why he did all this, that’s why he nearly died to give her a chance to save herself and so many others, because he loves her

I just love that Kim Suho is the reformed Lloyd frontera and Lloyd frontera is the reformed Kim Suho, and now you know what? Your kimi no nawa au makes so much sense man, Suho and Lloyd really are........

it just??? it's so??? i literally sort of screamed when i got to that part i swear-

honestly... kinda made sense? except it also felt like a plot twist? idk it always felt a bit strange that lloyd and suho's lifes paralleled each other so much but i always attributed that to, well, plot being plotty y'know? it could've been a coincidence, meant to highlight the protagonist's qualities and characteristics and while it was very convinient it wasn't anything out of the ordinary. it's normal for isekai novels to have protegonists strangely well suited for the novel they wake up to. it's a common trope. but the reveal that kim suho is lloy frontera reincarnated? that this was fate deciding lloyd gets another chance to be a better son, a better brother, a better friend and a better person? it recontextualizes everything.

suddenly it's not just suho choosing to be kind and a good person despite everything he went through (altho, i do think that's still very much part of the narrative, after all he did lose all memories of his previous life so this doesn't take away from suho's own agency but it does add a new layer to it), now it's also lloyd choosing to be better person that he was before, it's the tiny part of him that still remembers his regrets pushing him to be kinder, to be responsible, to be better. it's correcting the mistakes he'd made and repairing the damage he'd done.

it's very poignant in the way only a reincarnation story can be

AND ALSO YEAH I KNOW i joked in that post that there was a point in that au where lloyd and suho start blurring their edges together because of spending so much time pretending to be the other but this takes it to a whole new level. it sorta makes it fall apart but i'm choosing not to acknowledge that. i can handwave it just like bk moon did with everything happening just because javier made a wish upon a star.

it could be a glitch in the universe that recognizes they're the same soul in different bodies but keeps mixing them up. maybe i could even connect it by making it so it's javier who causes the glitch in the first place. maybe lloyd does something to him that upsets him but someone tells him to "be patient. someday he'll grow up. as time passes he'll be a new person" and tiny javier who's tired of being told to be the bigger person whenever lloyd and he fight just grumbles "well i wish he'd be a new person already"

and if it just so happens that a shooting star crosses the sky at that moment, well... he is the protagonist after all. the world does tend to bend itself in order for him to be at its center.

Things I have learned having watched Suzume (I thought this was gonna be a funny no spoilers thing but then my third point has a rant that is very spoiler-y so uh SPOILERS)

Always remember to shut and lock your doors

Don’t be mean to cats

Makoto Shinkai will never give me a couple kiss and I know that’s not the point of any of these movies and you need not have a kiss to demonstrate affection or love and I know the whole thing of this movie was more about her self-actualisation and emotional closure from her mother’s death disguised as a action romance but GODDAMMIT SHE KISSED THE CHAIR AT LEAST TWICE. SHE TRUE LOVE KISSED HIM AWAKE. LIKE LITERALLY THAT IS WHAT HAPPENED. He’s also at least 4 years older than her. So maybe that’s why. She’s seemingly in her second year high school which covers the whole 16-17 range and he’s done 4 years of University so supposing he was 18 when he graduated high school, he’s 22-23 years old. Not a bad age gap for once she graduates BUT NONETHELESS A GAP. And he completely fell in love with her while he was a chair. Bc Suzume was out here being a badass. And she kissed him twice awake. Saving him twice with LITERAL TRUE LOVE’S KISS.

Anyway I lost track of wtf I was saying with that last point so: it was a very beautiful film, as is Shinkai’s standard, and actually a very well-rounded and well-paced film. Weathering with You has a distinct drag in the middle. In terms of pacing and story structure, Suzume probably follows Kimi no Na Wa, which is a classic at this point… but has a bit more definitive ending for the main couple while KNNW is a bit more ambiguous.

I enjoyed it. Soundtrack slapped. You will be singing the main theme afterward.

Now, I'm still waiting for some stuff to air, so this isn't a complete list. Also, the last title isn't exactly one that I'm super enjoying because it's butchering the original, but I'm sticking with it because I like the franchise. I recommend the manga instead of the anime.

Animanga that exceeded all my expectations

The only one I can think of is Suzumiya Haruhi. It didn't exceed all my expectations because they were high from the start, but goddamn. I despise the fact that I came into the show knowing only the memes and opening clip, thinking it was gonna be absolute weeb garbage (because back in the old days it was much easier to not run into spoilers and I'm not even sure if the novel was already being fantranslated at the time), only to find out that it actually fucking slaps. Can you imagine how pissed I was. That I couldn't hate this bullshit of a show. Also endless eight. That shit was traumatizing even though I caught on quick and skipped most of it.

Top 3 Unpopular animanga I really love

I won't say unpopular but these are definitely underrated.

Tsurune (I mean the novel; the anime doesn't deserve much recognition beyond the good animation and sound design, imo)

Nurarihyon no Mago (I know it's been over for more than a decade and the fandom is long dead, but it was temporarily revived by the recent new chapters, and it was criminally underrated in the west back when it was still being published)

Gangsta (used to be really popular when it was on-going, but the fandom lost its hype completely both in the west and in Japan after it entered hiatus because of the author's health)

The song: It starts out powerful as they fall, and then it switches to a sweet tune when William finally lets himself have this...little bit of happiness. ;A; I also love how the song ends on a cliffhanger. 生きて俺たちは... We don't know what they'll do after they live (except if you're a manga-reader hehehhe), but it's nice to have that open-ending. It's like an assurance that they don't die here.

The way they staged the whole thing too........ Basically, after years of watching them reach for each other and never touching, THEY FINALLY TOUCHED. AND HUGGED. I will never be the same again.

ALSO??? HELLO?? All the references to Op3's "wind in my heart" I just. Op.5 is so wonderful.

Black (stupid) songwriting journal of fate - Part I

This "Jatp/Kimi no Na wa (Your name)"-AU has been pestering me for months. Every time I watch this movie, my brain goes "JUKE", and, well ... Happy Juke Jeudi!

It's been a year since Julie's mom passed away, and Julie's still struggling to find her feet. With music still being banned from her life, she's about to lose her spot in her school's music program. 

With the pressure from her teachers, her best friend's expectations, Carrie's bullying, and her dad's worries about her mental health, she blames her general exhaustion and anxiety when the dreams start.

In her dreams, she inhabits the body of a boy. his name's Luke; he's about her age and has a rocky relationship with his parents due to his untameable passion for music and his band, Sunset Curve. (A cruel twist of fate in Julie's eyes.)

Until Julie pieces together that they AREN'T dreams. One day, she arrives at school, and people keep whispering when she passes by, and Carrie is glaring daggers at her, and Nick, the boy she has a crush on, suddenly acknowledges her with an approving nod. Flynn files Julie in: Not only did she finally stand up to Carrie's bullying the day before, but she also "borrowed" Nick's guitar -- literally snatched it out of his hands -- to play a song in front of the entire music class, including Miss Harrison and Principal Lessa. (She didn't sing, though. But her deadline to prove herself in music class was extended.)

Flynn starts humming the song's melody, and Julie thinks it sounds oddly familiar. But she's too horrified to care a lot. (It's "Now or Never".)

Julie realizes that there are gaps in her memories -- entire days that she can't recall -- and they correlate with the nights the dreams occur (once or twice per week), concluding that while she's in Luke's body, his soul is stuck in hers. 

She also deducts that the swaps began when she started using an old, discarded songwriting journal she'd found.

Apparently, the journal belongs to Luke -- as he owns the exact same journal and the songs were all written by him, and Julie has no idea why there are two versions of the same notebook or how it came into her possession.

More importantly, the journal allows her to communicate with Luke.

They lay down rules that mostly revolve around not meddling with their private lives. But to their mutual dismay, they both tend to overstep. Luke keeps snooping around (he digs up 'Wake up') and accidentally lands Julie a date with Nick. Meanwhile, Julie tries to mend Luke's relationship with his mom. 

Their unsolicited meddling worsens things, though. Luke pressuring Julie into music just puts extra stress on her. And "Luke" (Julie) making promises on one day, then going back on them the next day, strains his relationship with his mom even more. 

Yet, as time passes and their communication via the journal intensifies, they learn more about each other and form a friendship based on support, respect, and admiration.

Julie realizes she's been sacrificing such a crucial part of her soul for over a year and, with Luke's constant encouragement, finds the strength to play "Wake up". Luke, seeing how her mom's death affected Julie and made her suffer for so long, learns that time is limited and that there might be a day when he can't fix things with his parents anymore. (But he needs music to communicate. Thus, he starts working on "Unsaid Emily".)

Their feelings for each other keep evolving, making both realize they are maybe in love. But they don't have the courage to confess their feelings yet.

Eventually, Luke invites her to a gig. Since Julie has become such an important part of his life, he wants to meet her in person and be there when they play The Orpheum and have their big breakthrough. 

When Julie arrives there on the agreed day, she finds The Orpheum destroyed. 

Two years ago, it burned down, killing a dozen people, including most members of an aspiring band called Sunset Curve, who were supposed to play their showcase that night.

this was such a fun read...

i personally love this idea of gf/female-lead playing such badass boss lady characters,,,,,,so cooool !!!

also the way their chemistry builds up around their otaku convos,,,,,CUTE!! (you know how much i love kimi no na wa ,,,so extra points for that <33)

but one thing i would love to mention is that while reading this i couldn't help myself but think of the latest jjk solo "SEVEN" mv...I mean this story somewhat goes well with that music video.....even the opening verse where he sings :-
