✼. THRU SPACE 'N TIME | PROFILE.
Tumblr media
Born in Gold Coast, Australia on December 23, 1999, Michaela Sommers was introduced to the world of motorsports from a early age. Her father, Tobias, and his younger brother, Travis Sommers, were avid Formula racing fans who idolized the likes of Senna, Schumacher, and Lauda. The motorsports bug skipped over Sommers' older sister, Samantha, before biting her at the mere age of six. By her ninth birthday, Michaela was competing in karting championships along the Australian east coast.
Despite her natural aptitude for racing, Michaela recalls facing discrimination for both her race and gender quite early on while karting. Despite the negativity that would swirl around her reputation, the young driver would win her first national championship at the age of twelve with plenty of rumors circling concerning her future in the sport. Sommers would attempt to enter her first international competition, but was barred from entry after her father lost his job in the summer of 2012.
Without much hope, Michaela would step back from racing for nearly six months before eventually deciding to join her uncle who had moved to England after his marriage just years prior. Travis then became Michaela's manager, working endlessly to ensure his niece would be able to continue climbing the karting ladder. Shortly after her move to England, her uncle would connect with Australian F1 driver Mark Webber who would travel to watch her race in a regional competition in 2013. Stunned by her potential, Webber helped the young girl to catch the attention of a racing team competing in the Ginetta Junior Championship alongside future McLaren teammate Lando Norris. Sommers' transition to racing cars would prove successful, securing a junior championship at just 14 years old.
Sommers would continue working through the ranks, receiving extensive media attention and comparisons to Lewis Hamilton as a teenager. Spending one year at the Formula 3 level, Michaela would race for British team Jagonya Ayam in 2015 finishing fifth in the championship and second in the rookie cup, both below Charles Leclerc. Her performance would catch the attention of Italian team Prema Racing who signed her to development for higher formulae alongside Pierre Gasly for the 2016 season.
Despite an average result, ending her rookie season in sixth place, Prema would resign the Australian who would be simultaneously be selected to join the Ferrari driver development program for the 2017 season. That same year, Sommers would wrap up her Formula 2 season in second place, once again behind Charles Leclerc.
Eventually, Michaela would finally secure a Formula 2 championship in 2018 while signing on as a reserve driver for Ferrari. Her official Formula One debut came after Sommers signed on to be Alfa Romeo's second-seat driver for the 2019 season, securing one-point in her debut race before finishing her rookie season in eighth place.

alex albon (aa23)
front page lover (thai!kpop idol!ofc)
keeper, smau: polly berkshire has obscure interactions with her thirsty boyfriend and it's safe to say that they love each other.
fashion week, smau: the williams driver and polly always got something for everyone to talk about.
double aa, socmed snapshot: a series of instagram stories in which alex is a dad to alice albon
own it, smau: alex's hidden talent is being a good boyfriend with a dash of photographer. ★
fernando alonso (fa14)
the breakup and makeup series (pro wrestler!ofc)
time to rock and roll, fic: the first time beatrice staedtlander and fernando alonso had broken up. (hc) ♡
heaven, smau: back in 2000s, fernando alonso and beatrice anastasia 'trish' staedtlander were every racing and wrestling fans' couple. years after, trish alonso became a mother and a wife... and the grid's crush of the season. fernando was certainly not happy so what's a better way to remind everyone that he was hers? (f, g, h)
from the ground up, smau: tino and tiago alonso were the twins that trish had given birth to at the age of 40, and everyone understood now why she didn't make it to the 2024 canadian gp. (f)
look what god gave her, smau: beatrice 'trish' alonso survived fernando's messy image better than anybody did. (f, g, h)
bonnie and the fame
maneater, smau: bonnie catherine sutton was carlos sainz's ex-girlfriend who returned to the f1 scene as a different woman. turns out, she's fernando alonso's fiancée (f)

oliver bearman (ob8)
ice ice baby, smau: kimi raikkonen's daughter romania raikkonen debuted in formula one with her friends AND it's safe to say that the iceman doesn't like ollie that much.
icy in saudi, smau: aroma raikkonen was ollie's biggest supporter in his f1 debut. plus, she also had her personal 'reverse harem' consisting of her best friends in the f2 grid. ★
ollie on thin ice(man), scenario: kimi raikkonen had proven himself to be oliver bearman's biggest hater at some point. ★
jenson button (jb22)
pride and pettiness (x british!actress!ofc)
one, 2004: in which, ada and jenson met for the first time.
the mr. darcy type, smau: much like the popular love interest, jenson should have known better than to say things that wouldn't impress a woman he grew interested in. OR ada abbott made sure that he worked hard for her time and attention. (f) ♡
shunt the hell up! (x hunt!driver!ofc)
shunt your lovers, kiss your enemies. smau: it was funny how enemies can be your teammate AND your lover at the same time. OR jj hunt, the daughter of the late james hunt, was jenson's biggest rival until a certain baby predicament cost her her entire racing career. (g) ♡
better enemies than strangers, smau: the brawn gp docuseries discussed jj hunt and the surprising turn of events in her rivalry/partnership with jenson in 2009. ★
other works
affection, blurb: in which, jenson learned that he should just say it without being a little too drunk.
pierre gasly (pg10)
newsflash, smau: ensley soleil doesn’t like playboys. too bad, pierre gasly’s down bad for her (attention and love). (f, g, h)
odds, fic: their timing was always wrong, maybe that's why pierre should consider making it even for the two of them as she writes songs about him and their courtship.
lowkey, smau: fans thought that pierre moved on from ensley four months after publicly declaring his (love?) for her. funnily enough... (f, g, h)
indigo, chatfic + smau: there's really no reason for pierre gasly to be jealous over some man that ensley wrote 'high school in jakarta' about. not when she wrote one or more songs about the frenchman. (f) ♡
high school in jakarta, fic: meeting ensley’s close friends would also mean that he’d have to meet her high school sweetheart, who he believed he couldn’t compete against until ensley ensured that his two-day attendance wouldn’t be spoiled by some guy who couldn’t let go of some memories she couldn’t even remember. ♡
dancing with the devil, smau: ensley soleil doesn't care about what people are saying about her relationship with pierre especially now that she's married to him. (f)
vintage, smau: pierre gasly is a husband and a fanboy of ensley soleil gasly amongst other things. (f)
hot dad era, socmed snapshot: pierre gasly. 30% f1 driver 70% dilf.
other works
do i make you nervous, blurb: lesson learned: just date her first rather than being friendly in the bed.
lewis hamilton (lh44)
stevie and lewis (hearth sister!ofc)
thick and thin, smau + fic: lewis should know better than underestimating her and her capabilities to yearn for him for years. (hc)
hands on and paws on, socmed snapshot: lewis is a stay-at-home dad to lottie hamilton and his best boy, roscoe, happens to watch his mummys everywhere she goes as she carries baby hamilton #2.
the hamilton daycare, fic: lewis is already a stay-at-home dad so what makes his day out in monaco with his two kids any different? (f) (2/3 of daddy, debriefed!)
where the bad girls are (kpop idol!ofc)
lifted, smau: lewis is married to a kpop idol who happened to be one of the girls to shape the image of female groups in the korean pop community.
crowned couple (x miss universe!ofc)
the couple of the universe, smau: lewis is a careless being this season and everyone's wondering why.
melody series (x performer!ofc)
summary: with her sharp eyes focused on her audience, a burlesque performer who went under the name of melody returned to rythme romantique, an entertainment lounge which exclusively caters to the wealthiest people of monaco — or in this case, to the people with a status that are recognized by all. her three exclusive performances were meant to be a closure for her connections in the principality. still, a certain formula one driver saw it as an opportunity to reconnect with his former flame after two years of her absence. felicity vos learned that this was a rich man’s world and that he could do whatever he wanted, but she also realized that the agreement they settled on years ago was corrupted the moment he expressed his love for her.
one, million dollar man: monaco was a world of glitz and glamour that she left two years ago. returning to the principality clearly was a huge mistake as she found herself talking to the man who swore to nothing but his love for her.
two, this is what makes us girls: "decorum isn't something you can buy with money or fame." or what did lewis really want from her and why did he show up on the second night of her performance?
arthur leclerc (al12)
the scheming schumachers, smau: sunny schumacher is mick's cousin and what does a family do? they attract arthur leclerc to get him away from his best friend, who happens to be mick's girlfriend. thankfully, the schumacher cousin is something of a welcome distraction for the monegasque.
charles leclerc (cl16)
the leclerc boys series (x hearth sister!ofc)
debunking drama, smau: prequel to of long lines and names; aimee hearth, the mclaren media manager and one of the famous hearth sisters, was rumoured to be dating lando norris. a certain monegasque's baffled reaction became a trending topic in twitter as he counteracts the rumour with an instagram post of his lover. (f, h)
many kids with many names, smau: everyone found out that aimee and charles were having not only one but two babies. turned out, those two babies have at least a million name. (h) ★
of long lines and names, fic: five kids with (almost) five names under six years. OR the three pregnancies that charles had witnessed told him how motherhood and memories could come in two sets of twins and a boy that looked so much like him. (f)
the leclerc daycare, fic: before his last set of twins were born, charles had to watch his boys on his own- not exactly by himself when he's got esteban and pierre acting as his right hand men. (f) (1/3 of daddy, debriefed!) ♡
about names, scenario fics
summary: extension to of long lines and names and the leclerc daycare; charles and aimee's boys and their names go hand in hand OR times when the couple had to tell their kids that their names were signs of love and respect for their namesakes.
one, an amazing boy with an amazing name: hervé's anger left his parents confused after he refused to be called by his first name. thankfully, his mamé pascale had an easy access to his heart that eventually led to an answer to his sadness.
two, the wingman of maranello: jules leclerc learned two things as he travelled to italy with his father: he had an uncle named uncle teague and uncle teague had a best friend that was once charles' godfather.
other pieces
"slut", smau: charles' ex trashed his new girlfriend a while ago, but too bad he wasn't really into the thought of making music with anyone but lou villar.
breaking curses not hearts, smau: frankie bardot atkinson was also known for her curse in the film industry. after breaking her long streaked curse and finally won an oscar, was it finally charles' time to break his curse at monza gp?
kevin magnussen (km20)
family ties, smau: lando norris forgot that his brother-in-law is in the grid with him and lola norris magnussen couldn't help but make of her brother for it.
lando norris (ln4)
lover era (x alessandro sister!writer!ofc)
london boy, smau: nicola 'cola' alessandro moved to britain and what's a better way to introduce yourself to england than taking a trip around with a certain mclaren driver? (f, g, h)
i think he knows, smau: grazia nichols published her debut novel based off formula one, and a fan could have sworn that the the book bf - nolan langford - was based off of lando's character as a driver altogether. (f, g, h)
✿ honey, honey! series masterlist - lando norris x ofc (honey-sue lewis) ft. sidemen
other pieces
too good to be true, smau: just a brief overview of lando’s relationship with a countryside girl who, beyond her introverted tendencies, was an unhinged, unserious yet amazing mother and girlfriend. ★
f1 drivers (general)
✿ 9 to 5 series masterlist - f1 grid x ofc (lester alessandro) ft. fictional wolff kids
✿ f1 voicemail blurbs - series of blurbs with voicemails left by the drivers. ★
too much caring, smau, sv5 + jb22: kpop idol juno was assumed to have cheated on retired driver jenson button with his best mate sebastian vettel. oh how wrong those people were...

F1 Master List , Part 2
Tumblr media
Y/N L/N. 3 time world champion and first female formula one driver; a few years ago she had shown up out of nowhere and taken everyone by surprise as the new RedBull racing driver.
There were a lot of similarities between her and her teammate, Max Verstappen. They weren’t here to mess around, they were here to win and that’s exactly what they were doing together.
It was clear that she had tunnel vision, Y/N didn’t spend a lot of time with the other drivers, albeit she was very friendly and polite to them whenever they were together, she was laser focused on her career and had no time for distractions.
Hence, there had been absolutely no sign of a possible lover on the scene whilst she had been on the formula one track and she left no room for speculation either, repeating the same words constantly to the nosey reporters and journalists.
My private life is none of your business, you’re here to ask me about racing.
I’m here to race, not to find a husband.
Her attitude towards the press reminded Kimi a lot of himself, their distaste was matched and it was always fun to watch the frustration on the journalists face due to the lack of answers they were receiving when both Y/N and Kimi where in the same press conference.
Right now, Kimi was standing at the entrance of the Ferrari garage, leaning against the wall as he looked out into the pits. He was simply watching the rustle and bustle of the Friday morning before a free practice session but found that his eyes kept straying towards the woman stood just a garage away.
Wrapped up in a large RedBull raincoat to protect herself from the cold, Y/N was stood with her race engineer, as she spoke her hands were raised into the air making all sorts of gestures to back up her words. He found that it was a common habit of hers and it always conflicted him when he felt a tugging at the corner of his lips whenever he saw her doing it.
Kimi wasn’t against feeling things, he just wasn’t good at it, they were out of his comfort zone. The feeling in his chest that he felt when he saw her wasn’t bad and he didn’t not like it, he just didn’t know how to deal with it or if he should deal with it.
It wasn’t often that Kimi thought about his future, he preferred to just tackle things as they came rather than trailing after things that were only possibilities.
He wasn’t a guy that sought after love, he didn’t crave it but he certainly wasn’t opposed to it. He had been married before and well, it wasn’t what everyone made it out to be but could that just be because it wasn’t with the right person?
Kimi scoffed at his own thoughts, how did he get from Y/N to thinking about love and marriage. What he felt for her wasn’t love, it was simply an admiration. A silent admiration that would be kept that way, silent.
"Are you going to keep staring at the poor woman or are you going to ask her out?"
Kimi turned his head to the side, coming face to face with a smiling Sebastian Vettel, whose eyes were filled with mirth and amusement.
"What?"
Sebastian wasn’t put off by the bluntness in the Finn’s voice, he never had been, instead he embraced it and nodded towards Y/N’s direction. "Y/N, you fancy her right?"
"Don’t be stupid." Kimi replied, voice gruff as he looked away from Sebastian’s burning gaze, turning back to the paddocks, though he made sure his eyes didn’t stray towards Y/N’s direction, not wanting to give Sebastian the satisfaction.
"You’re being stupid." Sebastian rolled his eyes, "It’s very clear you like her, stop standing here staring at her and go and tell her."
Instead of responding, Kimi simply continued staring out of the entrance of the garage causing Sebastian to sigh. "Why won’t you?"
It was silent for a solid minute and when Sebastian thought that he wouldn’t be getting any answers from Kimi today, the man spoke up. "She’s a good driver, she’s got a successful career ahead of her, mine’s close to finishing. She doesn’t need or want distractions, she’s said it plenty of times."
It was a reasonable excuse, there were no lies in his words but there was something deep inside Sebastian that needed him to play Cupid between the pair. Kimi and Y/N would be one of the most bizarre and unexpected pairs but he had a feeling it would work so well.
"The right person would be no distraction, it doesn’t matter what she’s said before. People change and so do their opinions. Think about it this way, there’s more of a chance of her saying yes if she knows you like her than if you don’t tell her."
"What would she want with a divorced man like me? Everyone thinks I’m a heartless arsehole."
Sebastian rolled his eyes. "No one cares that you’re divorced and what do you think people think about her? Have you heard the things she’s said to the press?"
Kimi smirked, of course he had and shockingly her words had made him laugh. She was a firecracker of a driver.
"Just give it a try, i think she’d be good for you." Sebastian patted his shoulder before walking away.
Kimi didn’t really register his teammate leaving, his eyes focused on Y/N’s figure just a couple metres away.
That Sunday, Y/N had qualified and finished on pole, leading the entire race by a large gap between her and her teammate, sharing the top three with Max in second and Kimi in third.
She stood on top of her car and waved at the crowd briefly before jumping down, she made her way to Max and congratulated him with a pat on the back before making her way over to Kimi who was still in his car, probably purposefully taking his time to try and prolong the post-race interview.
She would’ve done the same if she wasn’t too eager to go home.
"You good?" She asked, leaning her body over the halo of his Ferrari, she was smiling at him underneath her helmet, even though he couldn’t see.
Kimi nodded, removing his steering wheel, setting it onto the front of his car. Y/N stepped back so he could pull himself out. "You did good," he told her when he landed two feet onto the ground.
"Thanks, I heard you had a small battle with Max out there." Y/N reached up and began unbuckling her helmet, Kimi following her lead and doing the same.
"It was okay," he shrugged.
His response wasn’t anything other than what she was expecting, it was short and straight to the point but Y/N didn’t take it to heart like most would, in fact she actually preferred it. She liked that he was always clear and confident in his words and didn’t waste time with unnecessary explanations or apprehensions about other’s feelings.
Besides, there was no need to fill the space with uninteresting conversation to be able to enjoy a person’s company.
The three podium achievers got weighed before they were lead to the cool down room where they had water waiting for them and the screen that showed the race highlights.
Being able to share the podium with the woman that was all bright smiles as she was soaked in champagne was more enjoyable that Kimi ever thought it would be.
Seeing the utter happiness in her eyes caused a light curve to form at his lips, a greater reaction than gaining third had achieved, the smallest smile of his didn’t even dim as she emptied an entire bottle of champagne over his head, instead it caused an entire opposite reaction as the words spewed out of his mouth before he had even had time to realise he had spoken.
"Do you want to get a drink with me?"
Y/N had almost dropped her champagne bottle in surprise at his words but her smile seemed to grow even wider as she nodded at him, she was clearly confident in her response but her eyes had glanced down to the ground shyly.
"Not out though, yours or my hotel room?" She bravely suggested, not feeling going out but also taking the opportunity to spend some time one on one.
Kimi glanced away from her for a moment over the edge of the balcony before quickly turning his eyes back when he saw Sebastian who looked like he was seconds away from bursting with excitement as he looked at the pair.
"Mine?" He shrugged.
"I’ll see you there, Iceman." Y/N smirked and walked past him off the podium, patting his shoulder as she did so.
She didn’t see the real smile that had shown on Kimi’s face that day and she didn’t hear Sebastian’s shouting amongst the crowd of fans, the man cheering for an entirely different reason than everyone else was.

💭 on my mind: send me your fav driver thoughts (or thots 👀) and I’ll write a lil scenario about it
I never really understood the hand thing until I got into f1 and saw Kimi Raikkonen’s hands 🤭🤭 like I need them on me or in me
(It’s what I inspired the themes change on my blog)
Ahh okay so I’ve never written for Kimi so I truly didn’t know what scenario to write for him. I apologize in advance if it’s shit 🫣 but I did see the photos oh my god I didn’t even know he had tats but ooof 🫠
I can totally imagine him talking while gesturing with his hands trying to explain something that you aren’t listening to because all you can focus on is his hands. The way his tattoos contrast his skin, how a few veins pop up as he’s pointing, or the way his forearms flex and you’re just hypnotized by the sight, only realizing he stopped talking because he stopped moving his hands.
When you look at him with a questioning gaze, you realize he’s already looking at you with a slight smirk. He doesn’t say anything, doesn’t need to, only points his finger at you and gestures for you to come closer which you do instantly.
You sit next to him and tries to start talking again, but you’re just holding onto his hand, tracing his tattoos or playing with his fingers. You even put your own hand flat against his to really see the size difference. He doesn’t comment on it then, but he definitely teases you about it later or purposely gestures more often just to see you shameless ogle at his movements.

10 Valuable Mental Health Lessons We Can Learn From Formula 1 Drivers
Formula 1 is an incredibly demanding sport. It’s not just about driving really fast. F1 racing requires precision, split-second judgment, strategic agility, and extreme endurance.
It also tests the limits of mental resilience. F1 drivers need to constantly multitask behind the wheel without losing their focus. The slightest miscalculation or distraction can have catastrophic consequences when you’re hurtling around a circuit at breakneck speed.
“At any time during a race, drivers are dealing with inputs from several sources. In addition to driving the car and responding to other drivers on the track, they are monitoring the car through information on the steering wheel and holding conversations with the pit wall receiving or relaying additional information and race strategy,” says Dr. Tommy Wood, a neuroscientist and performance consultant associated with Hintsa Performance.
The pressure to perform is also enormous in such a high-stakes environment where a fraction of a second can make the difference between pole position and second on the grid.
For these reasons, F1 drivers train their minds as much as their bodies for peak performance.
“Formula 1, for us drivers, is as much about mental health as physical health,” shares British F1 driver George Russell in a special feature on mental health produced by Formula One.
“It’s the head that decides everything,” says Renault’s F1 team driver, Esteban Ocon, in the same video.
Luckily, many mental strategies and coping skills employed by F1 drivers are transferable and can be tapped by us ordinary folk to boost our own mental strength and well-being. Here are the top ten:
#1 Build a strong sense of self
“The foundation of a resilient F1 driver lies in a strong sense of self,” says Antti Kontsas, Head of Performance for Motorsport at Hintsa. “It’s essential to distinguish between on-track results and personal identity. If [the] identity relies solely on outcomes, the low points can quickly become overwhelming, leading to a negative spiral,” Kontsas explains.
Sense of self refers to how you perceive yourself as a whole. It involves being aware of your abilities, limitations, values, thoughts, feelings, and behaviors that form your unique identity. People with a strong sense of self tend to be more self-accepting and have a higher sense of self-worth. They are more confident in their decisions and actions and are less likely to succumb to external pressures and circumstances.
A strong sense of self also helps you untangle your identity from your work. Often, people associate who they are with what they do for a living. Their work becomes their whole identity. While your job is a major part of your life, it doesn’t define you. A strong sense of self allows you to derive meaning and joy from different sources in life, making it easier to bounce back from professional setbacks.
#2 Use visualizations
Visualization involves mentally mapping a specific situation or process and going through every step in realistic detail to train your mind for better performance. In F1, this could mean mentally rehearsing the entire race, picturing every apex, pit stop, braking point, and chicane. Mentally simulating different scenarios to better prepare for potential challenges and overtaking opportunities on track.
Repeatedly visualizing specific tasks or motor patterns can improve how you perform a task and help you avoid mistakes, says Dr. Wood. “This can be particularly important when time for physical practice is limited, as is often the case for Formula 1,” he says.
“It can really help focus the mind,” says Mark Arnall, an F1 performance coach who has worked with two world champions, Mika Hakkinen and Kimi Raikkonen. “I used to use a form of this with Mika Hakkinen before qualifying, for example, to visualize the perfect lap [and] mentally run through it over and over. It worked very well,” he shares.
For best results, Dr. Wood recommends keeping the visualizations short and focusing on the process required for achieving the goal rather than the outcome itself.
#3 Set process goals
“The driver must have well-defined process goals that he can control for each session and the weekend as a whole,” says Kontsas. “Focus is often momentarily lost, but the true test is how swiftly the driver can reset and regain it. These goals offer a reference point to rely on when stress increases, allowing the driver to quickly refocus,” he adds.
Process goals are specific, measurable, task-oriented goals that help you break down a bigger outcome goal into smaller, manageable steps to help you track and review your progress.
These short-term goals make the process of achieving larger goals less overwhelming by allowing you to be in control of the process. They also provide a clear roadmap that helps you stay focused, motivated, and accountable.
#4 Focus on what’s controllable
It’s important to “put your energy in things you can control,” Red Bull F1 driver Sergio Pérez shares in the same Formula One interview that features Russell and Ocon.
In F1, anything can happen at any time. For example, “the car might blow up, [the] driver might make a mistake, or another driver might accidentally take you out,” says Arnall.
Similarly, life seldom goes as planned. Major transitions, unforeseen events, unexpected opportunities, and setbacks often push us into unchartered territory.
Focusing on what’s within your control allows you to direct your time, energy, and resources toward things you have the power to influence (e.g., actions, mindset, routines, etc.), which can lead to lower stress, more resilience, and better outcomes.
Controlling the controllable has a domino effect on your overall health and well-being. For example, reframing your thoughts can influence the way you feel about a particular situation. How you feel, in turn, affects how you act or react, which can impact your mood, productivity, and relationships.
#5 Try breathwork
Stress and emotions run high in the high-stakes, high-octane world of Formula 1. And they only intensify as the season progresses toward the final Grand Prix races. According to Arnall, some F1 drivers turn to mindfulness practices like breathwork and meditation to calm the nervous system and avoid choking under pressure. Research shows that controlled breathing exercises may reduce stress, ease anxiety, improve concentration, and enhance cognitive and athletic performance, among other benefits.
#6 Practice arousal control
Arousal in sport psychology is the level of alertness and physiological activation experienced by an athlete. If arousal is too low, they might not feel energized, focused, or motivated enough to perform at their best. On the other hand, if arousal is too high, they may feel too anxious, tense, or distracted to perform well.
The ideal level of arousal is different for different sports. “In Formula 1, some arousal is needed, for instance, to ensure quick reactions off the start line. But being too aroused might impair decision-making or information processing while navigating the first corner at the same time as 19 other cars,” says Dr. Wood.
Different drivers use different arousal management techniques. “Some drivers may perform best when they work to increase their arousal right before the race. This can be done with things like caffeine, bright light, or brief bouts of physical or cognitive exercise. Other drivers might need to decrease their arousal if they’re naturally more anxious. This can be done with certain types of meditation, rest, or breathing practices, as well as managing who they interact with in the run-up to the race,” Dr. Wood explains.
#7 Cultivate self-awareness
Self-awareness is the ability to tune into your own thoughts, feelings, and behavior and recognize how they influence the way you interact with the world around you. It allows you to better regulate your emotions, which, in turn, helps you take better actions and decisions, even in stressful situations.
In F1, self-awareness helps drivers recognize unhelpful behaviors on and off the track and work on them to develop their capacity for self-regulation for improved performance and decision-making, says Kontsas.
#8 Leverage ‘good stress’
Not all stress is bad. While managing stress is crucial, research shows that eliminating it altogether may not be ideal. Just as physical stress from exercise boosts strength and endurance, low to moderate levels of short-term stress can positively impact brain function, resilience, and performance.
Every Formula 1 driver will have failed hundreds of times in their career. The process of dealing with that failure and developing strategies and tools to improve gives them the resilience to deal with setbacks when millions of people are watching, says Dr. Wood.
#9 Get serious about rest
According to Arnall, pre-season is intense. With a calendar filled with 22-24 races, prioritizing rest and recovery is a non-negotiable. If you don’t get this right, it can negatively affect both physical and mental performance as well as increase the risk of the driver getting sick, he says. Getting quality sleep is also critical for emotional regulation and decision-making, adds Dr. Wood. The National Sleep Foundation recommends getting at least seven hours of sleep each night.
#10 Stay consistent in your fitness journey
Another key aspect everyone I spoke with emphasized is having a consistent fitness routine. Your physical and mental health aren’t mutually exclusive. They are interconnected. So, what benefits the body also tends to benefit the mind and vice versa.
“Physical fitness is associated with capacity for motor learning, so those who are fitter may be able to learn and adapt faster when conditions change,” says Dr. Wood.
According to the neuroscientist, it also significantly enhances cognitive function and emotional regulation, both of which can come in handy in stressful conditions.

Kimi: So none of that messy stuff, because this is not goodbye goodbye.
Seb: Yeah. We'll leave the drama to those two. *points at Lewis and Nico*
Kimi, imitating Lewis: "Promise me you won't forget me, my darling."
Seb, imitating Nico: "I'll love you until Ferrari wins another championship."
[Both turn to look at each other]
Kimi, imitating Lewis: "I don't regret a single minute I've spent with you."
Seb, imitating Nico: "I think you're the first man I've ever loved."
[Both pause]
Kimi: Not a single minute.
Seb: You really are the first.

F1 Young Driver Programmes - do they do more harm than good?
F1 young driver programmes are so big nowadays, often holding so much more talent than could actually fit on the grid.
In my opinion these driver programmes are actually quite damaging to the sport.
Of the 2020 grid 17/20 came from some sort of young driver programme, the three that didn’t were; Kimi Raikkonen, Valtteri Bottas and Nicholas Latifi, so obviously they are incredibly helpful with getting talent to the grid.
Without these driver programmes we likely wouldn’t have Lewis Hamilton, Esteban Ocon, Kevin Magnussen as they wouldn’t have been able to afford to continue racing without them
Obviously they are helpful for many reasons
Younger drivers get experience in better machinery, i.e. they get to test F1 cars, get to use the F1 simulator and the other factory facilities
The driver programmes help when it comes to negotiations for seats, helping their drivers to get the best seat available
They are also massively beneficial for drivers who maybe don’t have the financial backing to compete without having tonnes of sponsors. Its rumoured to cost approximately 7 million pounds minimum from karting to F1
They develop the drivers making sure they get the adequate experience and training both in a racing sense and in a media/marketing sense
Its a support system for young drivers - this is vital as its easy to forget how young some of these guys are, and the fact that many of them have to move away from home
Its a way to get fresh talent into the sport, avoiding the pay driver route
You can’t dispute that these are all good reasons for keeping driver programmes however there are negatives
It creates a talent bottleneck - in 2020 Ferrari created a massive talent bottleneck in its academy by having 5 of its drivers in the same category when both of their F1 seats were full, this basically ensured that none of these talented aspiring drivers would be making it to Ferrari anytime soon and for a lot of them not even F1
It makes the drivers reliant on the driver programme, often times the programmes will pay a chunk towards the cost of your seat (like a sponsor would) meaning that the driver needs fewer sponsors, however if the driver is then dropped they then have to go and find their own sponsorships to cover that, plus any sponsorships that might have come through the programme
It makes driver programmes appear to be the end goal in junior formulae, like once you’ve signed with a junior programme you are destined a seat in F1, which just raises peoples expectations
It reduces the opportunities for the drivers, if there is a seat available at a team - the team is more likely to look for a free agent, rather than a driver from a competitors academy
It doesn’t stop the pay driver issue, there has been cases of people paying to be part of a driver academy which does take the spot away from young talent.
It puts an awful lot of pressure on these young drivers as they are expected to achieve so much.
It ties these young drivers into massive contracts with the team that prevent them from looking elsewhere, which take a lot of time and money to get out of. Examples - Kevin Magnussen had to take a year out from F1 after he was dropped from the Mclaren driver programme to sort out money and contracts before he could look elsewhere. It took Ocon a year to get a seat after he was dropped by Force India as he was Mercedes affiliated and ended up losing his Mercedes Junior Driver link. Carlos Sainz jr was only relinquished from his red bull contract after being dropped by Renault as there was no longer any seats for him. Red Bull in particular can still call up their dropped junior drivers due to a clause in their contract (Kvyat, Hartley, Albon were all ex red bull junior drivers when they were called up and their reserve driver Sette-Camara is also an ex junior)
I don’t think driver programmes should be eradicated but they definitely need to be reworked. There’s currently too many politics in there and often times it limits the seats they can go to. In a best case scenario teams would be able to run a third car to train up their juniors.
They work well for the top teams who have a “spare” seat in a lower team or have a sister team but once you get down to the midfield and backmarker teams they don’t work as they don’t have space for the drivers to develop and there's too much riding on putting a rookie straight into the seat.
Statistics
Of the 19 former FDA members (4 of whom are from their E-Sports team) 4 made it to F1 (plus Lance Stroll but he ended his contract with Ferrari before signing for Williams), and only 1 to Ferrari (so far)
Mercedes have managed to get all 3 of their juniors (who are of age) into F1 but none into the Mercedes team as of yet
4 of McLaren’s 17 junior drivers have made it into the McLaren F1 team
Red Bull may have had 7 drivers make Toro Rosso/Alpha Tauri and 8 make it to Red Bull but they have 58 drivers that didn’t make it to F1 and so many of these drivers were dropped after only a year and this dropping had a detrimental effect on their career
Renault supported 7 drivers to F1 between the Renault, Lotus and Caterham teams but they had 45 drivers that didn’t - the most recent being Romain Grosjean
The Sauber Junior Team is still very young and none of its members have made it to F1
The Williams Junior team has had one of its members make it to F1 out of four
Ferrari Drivers Academy: 26% chance of F1, 7% chance of Ferrari
Mercedes Junior Team: 100% chance of F1, 0% chance of Mercedes
McLaren Young Driver Programme: 24% of McLaren F1
Red Bull Junior Team: 20.5% chance of Alpha Tauri/Toro Rosso, 11% chance of Red Bull
Renault Sport Academy: 13.5% chance of F1
Williams Driver Academy: 25% chance of F1

Hamilton expressed frustration after the last race in Hungary, where the F1 drivers again expressed their anti-racism message - but the pre-race moment was disjointed, with several drivers continuing not to kneel and others arriving late.
The world champion then said Grosjean, the GPDA (Grand Prix Drivers' Association) chairman, had suggested "we did it once [at the season-opening Austrian Grand Prix] and that is all we need to do".
Grosjean revealed ahead of this weekend's British GP that he'd had a 45-minute phone call with Hamilton to clear the air, and said "maybe I did it the wrong way" in regards to expressing the views of those members of the GPDA who were not comfortable in continuing with the protests.
When asked about Grosjean's comments in the pre-event press conference at Silverstone, Hamilton said: "I wasn't aware of that but I was already impressed with our conversation that we'd had afterwards and his approach to our conversation.
"He originally reached out to me to talk after the last race and so I gave him a call and we had this great conversation.
"I think ultimately it was quite informative for the both of us. We learned that we actually have more in common than we perhaps think.
"And he's clearly a caring person. So to hear that he's said that is... it's not easy firstly for anybody to admit that you're wrong. And that's a great first step.
"But the fact is when we got off the phone I knew that we were united and we're going to be working towards the same common goal.
"So I'm really appreciative to Romain.
"And that's really what it's going to take all of us to do - to really open up our minds, don't put barriers up, don't be defensive, be open minded and acknowledging that there is an issue.
"But obviously sometimes the first step [is key] and then [it's about] how can we work towards making it better."
Renault driver Daniel Ricciardo said the drivers "have to continue" in their actions to encourage racial equality for "at least the remainder of this season".
"Because it's something that is obviously ongoing," he added.
"It's not just that we highlight it one week and forget about it - so yeah 100% think we should [continue]."
Red Bull's Max Verstappen - who along with Alfa Romeo's Antonio Giovinazzi and Kimi Raikkonen, Charles Leclerc, Carlos Sainz Jr, and Daniil Kvyat have not kneeled at the opening three races of the season - was asked if he saw any scenario where he thought all the drivers would kneel as part of the anti-racism movement.
He replied: "No. Because I explained it before why, and the reasons.
"Everybody has their own way of expressing it, but I think at the end of the day we are all united in fighting racism and, of course, trying to end it.
"I mean it's not going to end in the coming year but we are all united to fight against it, and I think that is the most important.
"At the end of the day it's not about taking a knee or not, because I think that's not going to solve the issue anyway.
"But like I said, we're all united and I think that's the most important."

Leclerc could win every remaining race but still lose the title to Verstappen | 2022 French Grand Prix stats and facts
Charles Leclerc has fallen so far behind in the title fight he could win all of the remaining races – including the sprint event in Brazil – yet still lose the championship. Even with 10 rounds still remaining, Leclerc’s 63-point deficit means he can’t rely on winning every time to beat Verstappen. If the Red Bull driver takes second in all the remaining races, including the Brazilian Grand Prix sprint race, and nabs the bonus points for fastest lap, even a Leclerc clean sweep won’t make the Ferrari driver champion. This may not be a realistic scenario, but it illustrates how far Leclerc has fallen behind in a championship since his lead over Verstappen peaked at 46 points three races in. In the nine races since, the points swing against Leclerc has been a whopping 109 – he’s lost over 12 points to Verstappen on average each time out. Points projection based on Leclerc winning all remaining grands prix and sprint races, and Verstappen finishing second and taking all fastest lap bonus points Advert | Become a RaceFans supporter and go ad-free The weekend began promisingly for Leclerc: The driver of car number 16 took the 16th pole position of his career, giving him as many as Stirling Moss, Felipe Massa and Verstappen. Verstappen now has as many wins as thrice-champion Stewart It was Ferrari’s first pole position in the French Grand Prix since Kimi Raikkonen’s in the 2008 event at Magny-Cours. Ferrari’s last pole position at Paul Ricard was scored by Nigel Mansell in 1990, the last grand prix at the track before it returned to the schedule in 2018. Verstappen scored his second consecutive French Grand Prix win. It was the 27th victory of his career, giving him the same number as Jackie Stewart, a previous holder of the record for most grand prix wins. This is the sixth time Verstappen won a race that Leclerc start on pole position. While Verstappen has converted 11 of his 16 pole positions into victories Leclerc, has taken just four from the same number of poles. Remarkably, of the races where Leclerc took pole position, he has won less often than Verstappen: Advert | Become a RaceFans supporter and go ad-free Verstappen also took the 19th fastest lap of his career, putting him level with Moss again, plus Ayrton Senna, Damon Hill, Mark Webber and Valtteri Bottas. Hamilton marked 300 starts with his fourth podium finish in a row Lewis Hamilton (remember when it felt like every instalment of Stats and Facts began with six paragraphs on him?) achieved his best result of the season so far with second place, and took his fourth consecutive podium finish. It was a decent way to mark his 300th career start. He is the sixth driver to reach that milestone. Rubens Barrichello was the first, joined later by Michael Schumacher, Jenson Button, Fernando Alonso and Raikkonen. The latter’s record for starting the most races – 349 – should fall to Alonso at the Singapore Grand Prix. Hamilton is unique among his fellow ‘300 club’ members in having started the race in every grand prix weekend he has participated in. At least, as far as anyone can be said to have ‘raced’ at Spa last year… Advert | Become a RaceFans supporter and go ad-free Have you spotted any other interesting stats and facts from the French Grand Prix? Summary: It was the Formula 1 summer break, meaning that The Iceman’s two driving children, including his beloved Romania ‘Aroma’ Raikkonen, were home. This also meant that a certain Ollie Bearman would make his presence known to the Raikkonen household- which was unpleasant for Kimi’s part.
Content warning: Dad!Kimi being protective, Andrea Kimi Antonelli is addressed as ‘Kimi’ by the Raikkonens but is addressed as ‘Andrea’ in narration, humour, wooing, Ollie wanting to cry really bad, Antonelli x Raikkonen!OFC (Rooney)
Note: this might not make sense to most but… enjoy regardless xx read the recommended fics for more context.

For Kimi, it was never a problem to have people over.
He was retired and he pretty much had nothing all day but to spend some time with his kids all while his wife, the Academy Award winning director Vera Coppola, worked on days end while she travelled to New York for a week.
It was a life he loved to live, really.
To have people over was a usual case for the Coppola-Raikkonen household, as Kimi had three children that were at the age when friends and peers were important.
Kimi and Vera always thought that it was much better that they allowed their children to have friends over than having them go out and about at night— better be free at home than rebellious and endangered, right?
It was now the summer break of this year’s F1 season, which meant that his two children were also home and didn’t need to be travelling with their mum to wherever the next race was.
It meant that they didn’t need to do their schoolwork on the plane while their private tutors sat with them on the way to wherever.
It gave the two young racers the break they needed from competing, anyways. If there was something that Kimi knew, it was that his eldest daughter and oldest son had the same drive as him.
Though, if he was being honest, his son was more like him in terms of interviews and personality in front of the camera. But still… both were racing out of pure joy.
Thank goodness, their mother was a Coppola and Kimi made millions before this.
“Dad, Kimi’s here,” Johann-Lauri Francis Coppola-Raikkonen, or simply Jo, announced as the fifteen year old walked into the living room where Kimi and his two younger kids sat.
Andrea Kimi (whom Kimi was never confused with whenever Jo or any of his children said the name ‘Kimi’ as they addressed their dad as ‘Dad’) made his presence known to Kimi as he waved, “Good afternoon, Mr. Raikkonen.”
“Ah! Andrea,” Kimi nodded. “Nice seeing you. When did you get here to Italy?”
“Hm… We just got back from Nice two hours ago,” Andrea replied with a purse on his lips, “Mamma and Papa made sure I got here in time. I even brought an overnight bag.”
“Okay,” Kimi said with a nod, “Johann, did you clean your room?”
“Yes, dad,” Jo replied.
“Do you want me to order food later?” Kimi asked.
Just the mere utter of the words ‘order food’ had Kimi’s second daughter running from the home library to the living room.
“Dad? Why is it that every time Kimi’s around we always order food? Why can’t we order food when Kimi’s not here?”
Rooney Italia Coppola-Raikkonen, at the age 17, never once enjoyed the presence of Andrea. But that was because they were both at that age when pissing each other off was just a phase. Now here she was, complaining about Andrea getting a special treatment.
“Bwoah, he is a guest, Roo,” Kimi answered plainly. “Mama isn’t here right now, and I’m sure you’d like some pizza too, no?”
“For dinner?” Rooney whined.
“You can order off the menu and tell me later,” Kimi negotiated, making Roo jump excitedly.
“Nice,” Roo said with a grin before she glared at Andrea, “You suck, Antonelli.”
“Rooney Italia—“ Kimi was about to scold his daughter, but she had already sped off to the home library once more.
Kimi sighed, watching the two teenage boys head upstairs to Jo’s room. Kimi looked down at his little boy and his toddler girl. Both little kids were less of a menace than the older ones, thankfully.
Betty-Elina was suckling on her pacifier when she looked at Kimi and raised her comfort blanket up to Kimi’s chest level.
“Thank you, kulta,” Kimi told Betty with a grin. He turned to where his youngest son was.
Henrik was snoozing on Kimi’s lap, not even minding the noise that his big siblings were making just about now.
God. What a life he was living.
Tumblr media
Somewhere in the mansion, rather down the hall of the east wing, was a quiet muffling sound of a girl who was speaking to herself. Well, Romania Eleanor was barely speaking to herself.
She was streaming. It was her first stream ever since F2 had gotten to her system.
Having to fight her friends to keep her second position before the season ends told her enough about how taxing racing could get. Thus she did the second best thing to racing and streamed cozy games to her fans.
Aroma, once she heard a knock and a creak of the door, looked over to see her younger sister Rooney. She paused her game, trying to see what the girl wanted all while her stream remained running.
“What’s up?” Aroma asked.
“Dad‘s going to order food,” Rooney started but was quickly cut off.
“Let me guess: Antonelli?” Aroma quipped.
Rooney huffed out, “As always.”
Aroma knew that the two, for some reason, hated each other’s presence. Or rather, Andrea Antonelli was simply amused at the one sided beef Rooney had with him.
But regardless, the ART Grand Prix driver chuckled as she nodded. Aroma said, “If Dad is ordering from Signora Leona’s restaurant, can you ask if I can have some seafood fettuccine Alfredo?”
“Got it,” Rooney raised a thumb up before she left the room.
Aroma watched Rooney leave and shut the door behind her before she sighed, proceeding to play her Animal Crossing as she spoke to her stream, “It’s like I’m watching a cringe version of enemies to lovers.”
Tumblr media
Ollie Bearman was never scared of anyone.
Anyone but one person that wasn’t his parents: Aroma Raikkonen’s father, Kimi.
He’s heard stories about The Iceman and how he couldn’t care less about anything that didn’t involve him nor his children.
Sure, for most people it wasn’t a scary thought. But in some ways, the British man was involved with Kimi Raikkonen’s eldest daughter.
That alone was a scary thought. He’s had a crush on Aroma since they started racing together, back when Aroma raced around Europe while her mother Vera took her to travel. Ollie was a welcome face to everyone in the Coppola-Raikkonen household.
But god… People called Kimi ‘The Iceman’ for a reason, Ollie thought.
Kimi’s icy stares and cold demeanour were always directed to Ollie and no one else. Ollie knew the difference between ‘icy’ and ‘indifference’ especially when it came to Aroma Raikkonen and her ‘wholesome’ father.
News flash: Ollie called bullshit on Kimi being a sweet man. Kimi’s stare could burn holes and Ollie could rot on them— so much for being the ‘Iceman’.
Now here Ollie was in Italy, hoping to hang out with Aroma…
To sum it up: Ollie and Aroma had some sort of thing going on. One that Ollie wouldn’t dare show to Kimi because god only knows what the Finnish driver could do to the Brit.
Anyway.
Ollie patiently stood in front of the Coppola-Raikkonen home, his posture still calm. He had just rung the bell, now he was patiently waiting for anyone to answer.
He didn’t expect for the patriarch to answer the door, his brown eyes meeting Kimi Raikkonen’s blue eyes.
Ollie grinned and politely greeted, “Mr. Raikkonen-!”
“-You’re not the delivery man,” Kimi stated bluntly.
Well… Ollie stood there awkwardly and nodded, “I am not, sir. I am here for Romania.”
“…Bwoah?” Kimi asked, his head tilting as he watched Ollie nod in confirmation. “I was not told.”
“I- uh,” Ollie’s demeanour grew awkward and uncomfortable as he stammered, “She- she didn’t tell you?”
Now this could go two ways: The British driver would have to go back to his accommodation in Milan and wallow in self-pity because Aroma Raikkonen had completely forgotten about their plans during the summer break OR he would die in the hands of Kimi Raikkonen because Kimi’s daughter had forgotten to tell her father about the said plans.
Either way, Ollie knew he was screwed.
Kimi stated, his typical indifference seeping through his voice, “I can check with her.”
Ollie sighed in relief and smiled politely, “Thank you-“
Kimi had already shut the door on Ollie, making the younger man sigh and wait by the front porch for five minutes…
Then five turned to ten…
Then ten turned to fifteen. There was no sign of Kimi. No signs of Aroma either.
Ollie sighed and took his phone, trying to ring and text Aroma. There was nothing. So he did the next best thing and rang the only other guest in the Coppola-Raikkonen household.
“Ciao, Ollie,” Andrea Kimi Antonelli spoke from the other side of the call, in the background was a multiplayer game of FIFA.
“Hey Kimi, listen,” Ollie started and looked around while he spoke, “You’re inside, yes?”
“Yes,” Andrea said shortly as he let out a ‘Idiot! Johann!’ “Anyway, why do you ask?”
“I’m outside—“
It seemed like Ollie was distracting the boy from an intense online game with him and Kimi Raikkonen’s eldest boy Jo. Because the next thing that interrupted Ollie was a, “Andreaaaa! What did you do?!”
“Listen, if you’re looking for Aroma she’s streaming— okay, ciao!” Beep.
Ollie was on the verge of tears; Being left alone in front of the house of the girl he was wooing (supposedly) by her father wasn’t in Ollie’s bucket list this summer break. He could have sworn that Kimi Raikkonen hated him.
Now he did the last best thing: pay his way into the house.

[OLIBEAR8 HAS DONATED €5: “i just spent money so you can open the gate for me] Aroma listened to her text to speech donation as she was preoccupied from playing her game and paused briefly. “Huh?” She asked and looked at the text.
She didn’t even realize who it was until she saw the donor. It was Ollie.
“Ollie..?” The moment she peered down on her phone she saw the countless notifications on the screen.
oli 🐻: hello 👋
oli 🐻: miss maam 🤓🤓 i’m downstairs
oli 🐻: if u see this i’m stranded downstairs. i can hear ur little siblings laughing at whatever ur father is saying
oli 🐻: if u see this i’m also prolly dead lmaoooo plz come downstairs
5 missed calls from oli 🐻
oli 🐻: aroma 😭 please i’m begging
“What the hell…” Aroma trailed off before asking aloud (particularly to no one), “Did Dad not even realize you’re at the front?”
But it seemed like she was heard by a certain individual who remained watching her stream at the front porch since he donated once more.

[OLIBEAR8 HAS DONATED €5: “he did but he doesn’t like me”]
“Oh my goodness,” Aroma muttered and paused her stream, standing up as she said, “Dad needs to stop with the Iceman act already!”
“Dad!”
Maybe her father had good intentions, Aroma thought, but she knew better. Her father might be reserved half the time, but it didn’t mean that he had a hidden agenda when it came to her dating life.

Formula 1: Ferrari want to operate in 'sharpest possible manner' for 2020

Ferrari have the most pole positions in 2019 with nine, but only converted three into a race win
Ferrari team principle Mattia Binotto says they are determined to sharpen up their race management over the final races of the season to ensure they are best placed for 2020.
The team have let a number of wins slip this year, owing to a combination of driver, operational and strategy errors.
Team boss Binotto said: “We have started the last six races from pole position but have only gone on to win three and we want to do better than that.”
“We are encouraged we have a package that can fight for wins at most tracks,” he added.
Ferrari started the year with a car that was competitive only on circuits dominated by long straights, which played to the standard-setting performance of their engine and did not expose the lack of grip from their chassis.
But aerodynamic upgrades in recent races have closed the gap to Mercedes and Red Bull on cornering performance and Ferrari head to this weekend’s US Grand Prix in Austin, Texas, as the team to beat in Formula 1.
Binotto added: “It’s a significant improvement on how we started the year and credit must go to all the people in Maranello and at the track, who have worked so hard to fight back from where we started.

How Lewis Hamilton went from fifth to victory in Mexico
Chequered Flag podcast: ‘I’m breaking into dance on the platform’
“We need to use the last three races of this season to further develop as a group and to operate in the sharpest possible manner in order to be better prepared for next year. It is a very tight field at the front and every detail matters if we want to win more often.”
In Mexico last weekend, Ferrari drivers Charles Leclerc and Sebastian Vettel started together on the front row but a too-early pit stop for Leclerc and then allowing themselves to be out-thought on strategy by Mercedes with Vettel left them second and fourth at the end of the race.
Binotto said after the Mexican Grand Prix: “Going to Austin, no doubt we have all the possibility to win. Let’s try to start on pole and win and not start on pole and not win. I am pretty sure we can do it.”
Mercedes driver Lewis Hamilton is on the verge of tying up a sixth world title and will do so in Austin as long as he does not lose more than 22 points to team-mate Valtteri Bottas.
The only possible scenario in which Hamilton will not clinch the title is if Bottas wins the race – and even then the Briton needs only to finish eighth to become champion.
Hamilton has won five of the seven races held at the Circuit of the Americas since its debut on the F1 calendar in 2012 and it is one of his favourite tracks.
Any other result in Austin and Lewis Hamilton will win the world title for a sixth time
Last year, Ferrari driver Kimi Raikkonen, Leclerc’s predecessor in the team, won the race and Vettel and Leclerc both go to Austin believing they can beat Hamilton.
Vettel said: “The US GP in Austin is a very different proposition to the high-altitude of Mexico. The Circuit of the Americas is an exciting track, with a wide range of cornering speeds and lots of changes of direction. It’s quite bumpy, particularly in the big braking zones so it’s easy to lock wheels there.
“The strategy choice is quite open, with both one and two-stop plans looking possible.
“Last year’s event was difficult because none of us got much useful running due to the poor weather on Friday.
“The forecast for this year is dry but quite cool. It should be a good circuit for us but, as we saw last year, we can take nothing for granted and the competition is also strong.”
