To explain The Goblin Problem and not go on a tag rant on someone else's reblog, I will explain it in the nutshell.
The Goblin Problem is when a story establishes a group of creatures to serve as recurrent antagonists (not necessarily all one species; in a lot of rpg games this can broadly apply to "monsters") THAT:
Are never negotiable, or the negotiable parties among them are Token Heroic Orcs- that is to say, they are seen as objectors or 'good' versions who have absolutely no connections to, and hold no objections toward you attacking, the rest of their brethren, who they have forsaken as the price to be paid for being good.
Have obvious unique technology; they may attack you with weapons found nowhere else in the game, demonstrate the ability to speak, have their own obvious language, tame a creature that nobody else tames so that it's thus impossible that they are stealing already-tamed specimens from someone else
Are characterized primarily or exclusively as raiders who attack others, with the justification this means they are inferior creatures parasitically dependent on Good, Civilized Settings, e.g. they cannot possibly be sustainably hunting, gathering, or practicing either nomadic or settled agriculture.
Are often defined as having no choice to be evil or are created by a greater evil to serve as thralls, and yet, will not under any circumstances be regarded as indoctrinated victims, or if that is mentioned, there will nonetheless be an overarching lack of narrative concern as to where or how the survivors should live after the greater evil is taken care of, or if effort should be made to challenge the indoctrination and give them the ability to choose their lives.
What this ultimately creates is that they are unambiguously people, who obviously check all the marks of sapience, who are quite possibly wearing clothes, but the goblin or orc exists as a stopgap. You want your fantasy hero to get into a swordfight but you don't want him to kill another human being. So you invent something that wields a sword but is in some way "not a person", which is senseless. Unless you want the nature of this swordfight to be that a chimpanzee picked up a knife, at which point they are not going to use reliable sword techniques.

Dreamingclan's healer
Teagleam
Parents: Butterflyfade and Copperwing plus Vel (Surrogate)
Mate: None
Kit: Lemonkit
From a young age Teagleam had always known he was.. different, he didn't know exactly what it was that made him feel so different. He always had this emptiness that festered and ate up at him. This feeling stayed with him into the start of his apprenticeship. After a moon of training to be a warrior and not feeling anything, he eventually broke down. Those around his thought it being best if he tried another path, as a healer.
Teagleam is a strict and antsy healer, not to say he is mean though! He's capable of a lot of kindness, his patience just wears thin. Especially with his ex mentor and lead healer Comfreydance.
One day a kit was brought back to camp by Cranefoot, no one knew what to do with the little kit. And despite it all the very young medicine cat took Lemonkit in. He's very stressed out and has no idea what he's doing. Alot of the people around him think he should just give up and that he's being silly. But he's not going to give up on his baby.

literally so done with rhaegar antis at this point. we know practically nothing about this character besides all the good things other characters say about him and the fact that robert baratheon hates him and says things about rhaegar that ned disagrees with. and robert baratheon is a pos so being hated by him only does favors for rhaegar’s character imo.
but somehow all these characters who think well of rhaegar are just lying. even though almost all of the characters who have spoken/thought well of rhaegar come from different families and have different allegiances. make it make sense. explain it to me like i’m five. what do jamie and ned have to gain by thinking positively about rhaegar? what about jorah? and barristan?
seriously. stop with the “prophecy obsessed freak” and the “rhaegar was mad” bs. none of this is supported in the books.
for 1) the prophecy is real! this is a fantasy series! and it’s very likely that jon snow (his likely son) is one of the azor ahai/prince that was promised figures! the other completely certain azor ahai figure is his own sister! so yes this prophecy seems to be centered around rhaegar’s family.
2) rhaegar being “mad” is not supported whatsoever. prophecies and magic are very real in asoiaf. so believing/trying to figure out prophecies is not an act of a madman. if anything, we should praise rhaegar for having the foresight to be actively concerned about this world ending threat! he was right. and one mention, if not the first mention, of the song of ice and fire comes from a vision in the house of the undying… from rhaegar. please remember what the title of this series is…
now, it is fair to criticize rhaegar for how he treated elia at the tourney at harrenhall. he was wrong there and that was a terrible thing to do to elia. however, saying that rhaegar was awful to elia throughout their whole marriage is not supported. and saying that rhaegar was awful to his children is not supported at all.
also, getting angry at a fictional character for needing a son to secure the succession to the throne is hilarious, especially since it was necessary for not just rhaegar, but also for elia to secure their own positions at court. they both needed a male heir, but elia needed to have a son more than rhaegar to secure her position. so why are people so mad that rhaegar and elia had aegon? andal tradition says that a son comes before a daughter and a daughter before an uncle… but aerys had viserys to threaten rhaegar with because aerys was king and had the power to change the succession. having aegon was very important for both rhaegar and elias futures and protected rhaenys position as well. just look at what happened to alys karstark when all of her male brothers were gone. she was almost usurped by her uncle. do you really think aerys would let the throne pass to a girl? aerys??
anyways, we don’t know enough about rhaegar and elias relationship to actually make any concrete statements about them, but, from danys house of the undying vision of rhaegar and (likely) elia, their relationship seemed fine and they seemed open with each other. not every marriage of duty ends in nedcat and five kids, but their marriage was clearly far from the robert and cersei nightmare.
another thing rhaegar antis love to harp about is how he is a pedophile. i’m literally so sick of it. rhaegar, someone who seemingly struggled with some form of depression, finally found some joy outside of a marriage of duty. the author himself called rhaegar a love struck prince. ned never thinks ill of rhaegar, even though if the stories robert baratheon would have us believe were true then ned would be the first character who thinks rhaegar is some sort of monster. but ned doesn’t. back to the pedo argument… anyways i have issues with the age gap as well. but i know where to lay my criticism. with george. he’s weird about ages and it pisses me off. however, i won’t let this change the way i see a character, especially since westeros doesn’t have any age of consent laws.
god just criticize george already.
but to be clear, rhaegar, a tragic character who died trying to protect his family, who’s daughter hid underneath his bed for protection, is not some monster. he was born in grief, lived in grief, found some joy, and died whispering the name of the woman he loved. that’s sad. and it’s horrible that he’s blamed for his family’s deaths even though he fought and died trying to protect them. and then robert baratheon sat on his throne and drunk and whored the realm into debt. thank you mr. boar. and good riddance. cersei slayed with this one.
now if you want to blame someone for the war and what came after, then blame aerys for his cruelty. blame brandon for his foolishness. blame robert for his warmongering. blame tywin for his monstrous actions. blame gregor and amory for their terrible violence.
stop blaming the guy who died trying to protect his loved ones.
and tbh, we literally have so little knowledge of what happened before the rebellion and after harrenhall. we just don’t know what happened between rhaegar and lyanna besides what george has told us and whatever small scraps we get in the book. we don’t know if it was a rash decision or if there was some plan in place when rhaegar and lyanna ran off. we just don’t know.
so please stop treating your headcanons like canon facts. especially when your headcanon isn’t supported anywhere in the books! it’s so tiring to see! i get it! you hate this character! whatever! but stop acting like what you’re saying is canon!
rhaegar is simply a ghost haunting the narrative. but his legacy lives on in dany and (likely) jon. and both of them are saviors fighting the good fight. and based on the descriptions we have of rhaegar, i can say that he’s likely very proud of his sister and son.

I don't think I ever properly had the guts to tell anyone this but for the love of god when Telltale was making episode eight and added Emily into the story I've always thought they were like "Eh nobody's gonna really like her even though she has a good chunk screen time in the episode" and were supposed to be right.
Supposed to be right
Not me though like I saw this girl, this CHARACTER on screen before now I didn't care for her until now and I need you to not hate on me when I say this when I say that Emily is legitimately one of those characters I didn't realize I found attractive for a FUCKING MINECRAFT CHARACTER.
PETRA? NO. LUKAS? NO. ROMEO? GOD FUCKING NO? I COULD'VE BEEN A FULLY DEVOUT PETRA LOVER, THINKING THAT SHE'S THE ATTRACTIVE ONE NO, THIS IS THE CHARACTER THAT IN MY HEART AND SOUL I GENUINELY WISH I WANT TO FRENCH KISS HER SO BAD AND HER DESIGN ISN'T THAT GOOD TO NORMAL PEOPLE:
I've could've been so normal with the characters I like, but no, I am not like legit she's one of my top three favorites I want her so fucking bad like I go ahead and be like "Ew Romeo is ugly as fuck how do people simp for him" and then I take my stank ass and obsess over a character that only appeared in ONE DAMN EPISODE AND IT'S THE LAST ONE FOR SEASON ONE because I wanna be so fucking different so fucking bad over a character that barely anyone likes.
That's not even the worse part: I think the fact I have unironic thoughts that involve her being apart of activities that I deadass cannot say even though I'm never involved it's either with another female character (Nell specifically) or with random faceless men tells me how down bad I am for this fucking character and I really wish she'd pin me to the wall and give me a kiss on the lips GODDAMN IT

it’s 4 am but I cannot sleep bc I’m imagining how fucking funny it'd be in the Nova AU if like anyone innocently brought up the events of sonic cd while nova is around like bc. it'd be so fucking awkward. like i need to emphasise that in the au metal's very enthusiastically done some fucked up shit and done it as early as his creation so like. sonic is sitting there sweating bullets bc some kid came up to him being like oh wow you’re so cool you totally kicked eggman and his creepy robots ass on little planet shame it couldn’t happen until after my cousin got murdered :( and sonic's just having to confront the fact his goth robot gf has in fact killed a ton of random people while also having to try and stop her from going “okay but maybe your cousin dying was funny and good actually” bc she literally does not have a sense of morality and doesn’t know murder is bad. after they end up like somewhere private sonic s just like “wtf you didn’t tell me you’d killed random people for no reason” and nova's like “i mean one youre fail rping right now i'm my original character donut steal nova the hedgehog right now stop talking ooc the whole point is that you’re meant to think i'm organic and not a superior robot version of you cringe. and two like, yeah duh??? did you forget the whole i was made to murder people thing. besides it wasn’t for no reason it was for fun.” and is incredibly confused when that is not taken as a Valid And Acceptable Answer. bc like even when living out his original character self insert fanfiction metal simply fundamentally cannot understand why organic beings dislike pain and being killed bc he’s functionally immortal and has no sense of touch (and often intentionally damages himself as a very bad coping mechanism bc you can’t have panic attacks when you’re having system errors) and he thinks not being a robot is simply a skill issue.

So have a new OC! His name is Reynold and he works as like…. CIA or FBI I don’t know yet. His hobby is doting on his younger (by ten years) brother. His younger brother (and a friend) are recruited by a goddess from another world to be the hero (and aid) to saving her world from the demon king. Unfortunately, the hero is bad at saving the world if seems.
The goddess returns to earth and begs Reynold to join her and help the hero - his beloved younger brother. So he agrees under the condition that “I would do literally anything to help him. I only ask when you send me to your world, I want to be a woman.” And the goddess is just like “odd flex but ok” and does so.
Rey (it’s so much cuter than Reynold and still works) then does an excellent job at protecting the hero and solving problems for townspeople … to the point that the demon lord’s army kidnaps her and takes her to their castle as leverage to lure out the hero. The demon lord looks at her and just gets really confused because “your soul doesn’t match your appearance. If you aren’t the hero, were you cursed?” And Rey is not willing to admit to the big bad demon lord ‘well my brother called me creepy since we’re both guys and he wished he had an older sister instead’ so he just looks away and says nothing. Over a week, Rey keeps waiting for torture of some sort (heck, she’d be willing to torture someone for the hero and besides /what/ is otherworldly torture like?) but the demon lord keeps trying to talk and ask questions. Finally, he asks “do you want me to return your form?” And Rey agrees. He kinda misses being a guy.
Finally the hero gets to the castle and is ready to fight the demon lord and … doesn’t understand why there’s an illusion of his brother in the castle since he should be a she last he was aware. Reynold tells him “oh hey! I solved the whole world being doomed problem. I’m engaged to the demon lord. Don’t worry, I arranged for you and your friend to return home! And! I’ve secured visitation rights!”
The hero tries to suggest they team up and take the demon lord out buuuut the demon lord isn’t thrilled by the idea so he transforms into a huge dragon and gets between the brothers. Unfortunately, Reynold thinks that’s kinda hot. Crap. Oh well. He’s gonna be married to him so it’s fine probably. And so that’s how Reynold saves another world and gains a seven foot tall husband.
Also noteworthy: he’s basically a cryptid in two worlds. On earth he’s constantly going radio silent and then popping up at his parents house and picks the lock and stays for ten minutes before leaving. In the other world, rumors of a woman in love with the hero who fought anyone who got too close still linger in multiple towns.
