if you struggle with mental health, one piece of advice i would genuinely give you is learn to knit.

or crochet: something repetitive to do with your hands, assuming you're capable of it. if you're like me and learnt to knit as a kid but let it lie fallow for a long time, it may be that starting a large, simple project (for me it was a cloak, but a blanket could work too) gets you back into it. or maybe doing something smaller, idk. i personally found socks really hard for a while because they felt smaller than my cloak but weren't getting Done quick enough for me. as i've sped up i find it more interesting to knit socks.

regardless, a repetitive task is great for emotional regulation (also see: autistic stimming), and something that you can look at and go hey i've done something, unlike simply using a fidget toy, can also help to pick your mood up when the brain is being cruel.

it's also useful as a conversation starter or distracter if you don't know what to talk about. if you're wanting to talk to older people also you're more likely to reel them in with knitting (i work better with older people, and 99% of people who ask what i'm knitting are older than me). it also gives you the opportunity to not make eye contact because you're busy knitting, even if you're still carrying on a conversation. if you're absolutely stuck for conversation you can count your stitches and people might stop bothering you.

if you have trouble focusing without doing something with your hands, you can knit! i knit a lot in church, and it helps me to focus on what's being said.

i probably have more reasons you should pick up knitting, but i can't recall them right now, so yeah.

talking entirely character wise. do you think today was a bit of a wake up call for bad. do you think he heard red screaming out of their minds begging for toxic gas and thought about how they’ve lost their minds just a little bit. do you think that when he was given an immediate no when he asked where the red egg was to help them defend he understood how deep of a rift he created. do you think as he sat there silent while the rest of red cheered at killing the egg statue, he wondered if he could have pushed them a little too far. do you think that maybe, just maybe, with the red sun beating down on him in that desert, the gas mask team cheering and dancing, he felt for a single moment the consequences of his actions? that maybe, if he hadn’t started out so hostile with extreme tactics, if he hadn’t been so bloodthirsty and ruthless, if he had had just a little bit of hesitation, that his own attempts at diplomacy would have gone over better? that the rest of the teams would have listened? that red would have trusted his judgement on the egg statues, or at the very least respected him enough to honor an agreement? do you think he realizes that burning his bridges may have fucked him over?

Trying to finish something I was supposed to do ages ago--spinning a contrast color for this sock yarn. The fleece (southdown babydoll) had a pretty wide range of grays, most of which I blended together. But I intentionally left the darkest gray out of the mix so that later I could spin up just that, and have a dark gray for the toe and heel. So, now I'm doing that.

One thing I did not realize until now (due to intentionally avoiding working with the darker gray locks) is that they are all much shorter than the other colors of gray, and a lot of them are way finer too. That's not ideal, so I might not use it for the toe--it won't be as hard-wearing of a yarn and the toe/ball of the foot is what wears out the fastest on my socks by far, so. It's fine though, I just want some kind of decorative element that uses the fact that this fleece had lots of nice colors.

I'm also not that surprised, I guess. The longest locks were always the very light gray ones. Hard to know why without seeing the sheep though.

Fixed a knitting problem today! I'm not often able to fix something when I've made a mistake, even when I notice it straight away. But so far in my project I fixed an error in a stitch I made and when I added a row too many I was able to run it back to remove it without messing anything up :)

I'm currently sewing a dress & yesterday I realized that I've intentionally made virtually every aspect of the process more difficult (fabric is plaid that needs to be matched, keyhole back changed to invisible zipper, zipper then requires a facing be changed to a lining, added piping to the collar & hem, etc.). I've also decided to bang out a last-minute Xmas sweater that involves carrying 3 colors for most of the knitting. Lots of questions for past me.

What is rem like in this au? Does that change the way L is killed?

Hmmm I think I'd probably swap Rem and Gelus for this AU. Rem was the one who originally saw Matsuda and grew "fond" of him, before someone tried to kill him (probably some homophobic bastard instead of a stalker) and she intervened.

I imagine that since Matsuda is older than Misa Rem was watching him for a lot longer and it gave her more time to fall in love with him. I see Rem as generally more cautious than Gelus so she'd need more time to get to the point that she'd do something reckless. Gelus falls faster than her, though, so while I think Rem only fell for Misa AFTER Gelus died, Gelus fell for Matsuda before Rem died, so Matsuda gets the notebook earlier. But because his killing pattern is far closer to Light's than Misa's, it takes the Task Force longer to notice him, so he gets to kill for longer ✨

Gelus may not be as intimidating as Rem, and he wouldn't threaten Light in front of Matsuda, but he definitely pulls out some needles once they're alone and pulls a classic "If you hurt him I will put these in every single pore and orifice in your body. I won't kill you, but you'll WISH you were dead."

Light, ironically, is slightly more wary of Gelus than he would've been of Rem lmao.

As for how L would be killed—probably the same way. Gelus dies protecting Matsuda from getting found out, and thus L and Watari die :') The TIME probably changes, though, because the Task Force feels less pity for Matsuda for obvious reasons and thus he wouldn't be able to visit Light as early or often as Misa did. So L gets to live a few weeks longer than in canon :3

Human: Yes, I was first officer on the spaceship where our captain tried to sabotage our ship and leave us for dead, because he didn’t actually think we’d find an alien species so his plan was to head back to earth pretending he did and that they murdered the rest of his crew, so that he could not only become famous from the whole thing, but also collect the life insurance from all of us.

Human: I was the only one who didn’t drink the spiked beverage during our party, so when the alarms went off signaling that the ship was failing, I was the only one who was able to wake up and go fix what I could, where afterwards I discovered his betrayal and my captain (who I thought of as my best friend) tried to kill me.

Human: I was able to fight back and shove him into an escape pod, which he used to, well, escape, but not before pointing out that he had damaged the ship’s interior too much and that we most likely wouldn’t make it back to base.

Human: After he flew off, his pod was attacked by a hostile alien species, and he was killed before he could enjoy the irony of his story now being somewhat true. With the oxygen starting to fail, a dangerous ship with unknown technology attacking us, and the life of my unconscious crew in my hands, I, as the new acting captain, did the only thing I could.

Human: I steered the ship into a nearby wormhole, and when we came out the other end, we found ourselves back at Earth, but over a thousand years past when we had left it. And now we have to adjust to this new future where we don’t only have to learn about a whole bunch of alien species’ cultures, but also relearn our own, as human culture has changed drastically in this time.

Human: But that’s not what we’re here to talk about! I just want to welcome all you students to “Intro to Knitting”!
