this has probably been talked about before but damnit i want to see more of the death note characters struggle.
i want to see light flinching at fireworks and his father's touch after the faked execution. i want to see him habitually turning to an empty chair, picking up a tennis racket, absentmindedly making tooth-rotting coffee before he realises L isn't there anymore.
i want to see misa installing multiple locks on her door after her parents' murders, making multiple trips at night just to check the doors are locked. after she gets married to light, i want her to complain to the empty air, to say a hasty goodnight before realising that no-one is there to listen any longer.
i want to see kid L staying up late alone, face lit by a computer screen. i want to see him before his death: i want to see his last moments with the man who raised him, his last night with the only one who understood him, him knowing that death's finally starting to catch up.
i want to see near trying to live up to the title of L. i want to see him staying up more at night, dropping sugar cubes in his tea even though he knows it's stupid.
i want to see mello digging his nails into his skin, chugging energy drinks, just to stay up and study for a little while longer. i want to see him doing anything to win and regretting it later on when he's alone. i want to see him keeping matt's goggles in his pocket after his death.
i want to see matt blaming himself after he sees mello spiral, maybe even blaming L and purposely scoring lower on his tests so he won't become the next L. i want to see matt choosing to follow mello out of the orphanage anyway and them having a big argument about it because mello didn't want matt to have to sacrifice everything he'd known for him.
i want to see kid sayu trying her best to live up to her brother's image, trying to be 'the smart one' because that's what light was and so she figures that's what she has to be, too.
i want to see sachiko, after her son's and husband's death, make a portion large enough for four, set a table for four and leave the door open every day at nine until she realises no-one is going to come home.
okay so i know that death note is an action-centered anime and having things like these would slow down the plot and maybe bore the readers. but i also think that all these show their humanity and also is part of the problem that light and L both show the readers: sometimes you get so caught up in the game, in the thrill of it all, that you forget the pawns you're playing with are not plastic pieces but real, living human beings.

something that is both heartwarming and heartbreaking about Caleb is the way he consistently continues to fight his fate, despite every sign he encounters pointing toward its inevitability:
it's in the way he defies the Toring Chip, and the meaning of 7%

When Caleb falls apart on the bench with MC and the chip resets in Farspace Bloomfall, 100% of his mind is supposed to reset.... and yet only 93% of the chip is integrated and able to do so.
We know Caleb is aware of this too, when he tells MC to tell him about her problems “while I can still respond.” Because he knows he'll inevitably lose some information once it happens, like the 'patrol data' Enforcer mentions.
This means it’s happened before, Caleb's mind had been reset before. Which means, he knows if the chip’s integrity ever gets to 100% and resets, anything he feels toward MC will also reset. And so..
“…he’s purposefully ‘sealed’ his brain rather than damaging it.”
So Caleb gathered up every emotion, every memory, and every impression of MC in his mind, wrapped it all together into one small piece, and has since, against all odds, continuously used his Evol to put a barrier around it, to protect it. To keep the chip from finding it and wiping it. And what is that piece? That 7%?
7% is MC. 7% is his memories of MC. 7% is his love for MC.
it's in the way he's turned himself from "perfect weapon to destroy each other" to "perfect weapon to destroy others"
I could be wrong (please correct me), but I'm pretty sure it's murky right now whether Caleb (subject 002?) knew MC during any of her 'incarnations' in the lab and/or their purposes to be a killswitch for each other. But if he does know or remember any of it, the protection of that 7% from the Toring Chip becomes even more vital and strategic as all hell.
Because that would mean Caleb orchestrated a situation where he's become the lab subject, a decoy in MC's place as they try and correct the chip within him.
And that would mean that Caleb planned for them to "sacrifice a great deal to obtain him," — apparently, so much that they're unwilling/unable to simply dispose of him when he's resisting the very thing that would seal his fate as "the key", as MC's killswitch.
and it's in the literal beat of his heart
when you lay your hand over caleb's heart to hear his heartbeat, no matter how fast that beat starts out, if you hold your hand there long enough, his heartbeat inevitably tapers into a calm 50-60.
Despite all he's doing to preserve that 7%, he can't fight the nature of the other 93%. The nature of the chip and it's purpose to keep him in an emotional stasis.
His excitement to see you, his happiness to have you there, the fluttering of his heart? Those are abnormalities to the chip, those aren't in line with what that stasis is supposed to be. And so... no matter how quickly his heart beats for you initially, it inevitably gets suppressed.
We see how it affects other members of the Fleet too. How all of them have accepted the inevitability of the chip. Tuum Officer No. 6025 and Liam in particular shows us exactly what it looks like to give in.
And yet, every time you come back, Caleb's still excited, Caleb still fights it. He's fighting it with only 7% of his memory, he's fighting it with every quickened beat of his heart.
If the chip is a tether, if his fate is a tether, Caleb will never stop sawing at the strings, and i am not okay about it.
blame for any and all crash outs can be directed to @solifloris and @starmocha, who have managed to make my "down bad" for caleb turn into "sick to my stomach with eternal devotion"
#on a scale of normal to psychotic i am PADDED CELL levels of unhinged over caleb#ive been avoiding his heartbeat for DAYS because seeing that happen makes my chest ache#and that latest quote about the kite tethers has me in a pile on the floor#caleb x mc#lads caleb#lnds caleb#l&ds caleb#lads#lnds#lads theories#lads analysis#love and deepspace#love and deepspace caleb#nova yapping

not me doomposting about l*ona again
I pointed out in an older post that Leona seems to demonstrate a unique ability to unite others under a common cause. This is in spite of the lore stating that it's very difficult to get different kinds of beastmen to see eye-to-eye, so much so that Sunset Savanna's acting king, his older brother, has yet to really unify their people.
WELL.
***Spoilers for Leona's Nightmare Suit vignettes below the cut!***
A central theme to Leona's Nightmare Suit vignettes is figuring out what makes someone worthy of being "king". At the start, everyone is reminded of Jack Skellington's status as the "King of Halloween, which makes him the most important person in town. However, Leona's quick to point out that the title isn't what's important, but what one achieves is. He then expresses interest in what it is exactly that Jack Skellington does around here to earn his crown. His opinion of Jack isn’t that good; in the event story, Leona thinks Jack doesn’t pay attention and doubts that he can have deep thoughts. Jack describes his duties as making Halloween the scariest it can possibly be. He drives around in his buggy, walks his dog Zero through the local cemetery, studies and conducts experiments, and reviews the proposals from Halloween Town residents. An important part of his job is considering his people's ideas! But Leona thinks there could be a more efficient way to do this rather than having the king read the proposals one by one. We can see a divide between their ways of thinking; Jack is willing to hear individuals out whereas Leona is focused on efficiency. This is also reflected in how they assign tasks later in the vignettes. Jack has everyone going up one ladder to decorate, while Leona commands the witches to do this task, as its much faster for them to do on their brooms. I don't know if this was intentional, but the way Jack rules feels reminiscent to how Leona often describes his older brother, Farena/Falena. So often does Leona mention that Falena is too kind and cares too much for others, which impedes on the political and economic gains he could be making if he were just more focused on his goals. “[Falena] could just focus on the kingdom’s affairs–you know, his JOB–but nooo, he’s gotta be the caring big brother who’s nice to everybody." (If you want to read a more in-depth analysis of Falena vs Leona's priorities when it comes to ruling, please read this post.)
Leona claims that the qualifications for king around here are actually really simple--and yeah, maybe there's nothing more to his line than this, but considering that in his home country one's order of birth is also a strong determinant, a merit-based system like what's seen in Halloween Town probably is simpler to him. And that means it's his time to shine and be acknowledged when he wasn't successful at earning this recognition back home.
Now, what REALLY surprised me in these vignettes wasn't that Leona knows how to boss around his peers and put their strengths to use (for example, he tells Vil, who has an eye for detail, to look over the embroidery, and Idia, who is a science and math whiz, to handle difficult calculations). It's that Leona is also perfectly aware of the abilities of the Halloween Town residents--people he has only known for less than three days--and uses them and their skills well too. That's an insanely short amount of time to get to know an entire TOWN'S worth of people and what each of them are like... yet he just pulls it off effortlessly????? HUH... This earns him the praise of Dr. Finkelstein, the mayor, Jack, Sally, and Skully. Sally in particular highlights Leona's strengths very concisely, stating that he can accurately assess the situation and give appropriate directions on how to act in that situation. Skully adds that Leona technically doesn't move himself or do any of the dirty work, he's focused solely on giving orders. This makes him a "king" and a leader of equal standing as Jack Skellington. And then Skully--SKULLY, THE OBSESSED HALLOWEEN OTAKU THAT THINKS HALLOWEEN SHOULD BE A VERY SPECIFIC WAY--says that Halloween was made possible by not one, but two great kings this year. It just goes to show how much one can truly accomplish when not barred by a negative environment and a lack of social support.
One definition of "king" that is offered in these vignettes is "the one who can bring everyone together". That's certainly something that both Leona and Jack do, albeit in very different ways. But then, at the end of the Halloween Town segment of the vignettes, Leona acknowledges that "king" can be defined another way. He realizes that Jack is recognized as king not just because he's a leader, but because he's also needed and loved by the townspeople. This, too, is a "king". However, it seems that this is a definition that Leona somewhat looks down upon, as he basically apologizes to Jack for not thinking highly of him at first. Again, Leona prioritizes getting shit done, no matter what the cost of it may be--and even if it earns him the ire of others. This, as I said earlier, puts him in stark contrast to Jack, as well as his own older brother. But here and now, we have Leona finally seeing the strength that a different kind of ruling can have instead of always speaking so disparagingly about it. Even if it's just a little... it feels like he's growing and learning, doesn't it?
The vignettes end on flashing forward to Leona back at Savanaclaw dorm. A few of his freshmen students are goofing off right before magift/spelldrive practice is about to start. As soon as Leona shows up, the freshmen snap to attention and rush off to change for practice. Jack (Howl, not Skellington, lol) remarks that usually the other first years are so lazy, but their attitudes completely changed when their dorm leader appeared. Ruggie chimes in, saying that Leona keeps the entire dorm in line... THJBAEBVUFAEIYAFIOYBVADFILH ThEN HE CALLS THEIR KING THE BEST... AND JACK AGTREESS... WHAT DO YOU MEAN, SHUT THE FUCK UPAS ALREADY STOP POGINTONG OUT HE'S A AGOODFK leADER DFOR YOUE AEPEOPLE YADFJKHAFLIYVDGVYUADGVUEGAVN
In response to the praise, Leona says that simply scolding misbehaving students doesn't make you a king. If it were as simple as that, it would be a pretty cheap throne build only on flattery. The vignettes end with him telling everyone to move their asses to practice. lh WDBHFAIYOEAIYEIYF BUT TAHAT'S PRETY YMASSIVE FOR HS CHARACTER... These vignettes demonstrate that Leona's not fixated on the title of king, but what it means to truly "be" a king and leader. He doesn't value being called a "king" if he feels it's easily earned, he wants to prove himself worthy of it and earn that title through his talents. This all circles back to a thought I had a while ago: that what Leona is after isn't the literal seat of king, but all the things that come with it but was denied of in his childhood. Respect, admiration, recognition for his abilities.
And 💦 Leona doesn’t realize it yet (either that, or he’s in complete denial) but… He also fits that second definition of “king” 😭 He’s the type of person that gets things done (like what he believes should define a king) BUT GIS DORM MEMBERS ALL ALSO NEED AND LOVE HIM…
OOoogohoggoOGH... OTL I hate how well it comes together...

hi me again what's new anyway here's another crazed rambling
calebmc dynamic of mc being just as obsessive as caleb (let me explain)
so mc (you) has this wonderful ability where she can die but then come back without any memory of anything like a blank slate, and unfortunately Caleb did witness this multiple times when they were younger so he had to remind her of who she was
T H E R E F O R E I PROPOSE:
MC being just as obsessive and attached as Caleb DUE TO SOMETHING VERY MUCH AKIN TO IMPRINTING
BECAUSE
Caleb would likely try to get to her first before anyone else
Caleb would tell her everything about who he is, who she is, what everything in the world is
Caleb would likely not let her out of her sight so she can regain her memories / he could potentially rewrite bad ones to conceal any terrible truths (yknow, like her being killed, saying she just 'got sick')
Caleb being the first thing she sees and is exposed to and relearning everything from him = imprinting
Caleb's 1st myth shows this from how it may play it in Caleb's perspective. when he forgot who he was, we as MC concealed bad truths and still tried to remind him of who he was, and he believed everything up until he remembered everything. he must have gone through this process dozens of times, and we must have reacted the same way, because each time we (MC) die, we come back a "blank slate"
however the affinity for him does not fade, because we likely can still "remember how he made us feel", evident in both of Caleb's Myths where we can cling onto something despite death (in Lucid Dreams, Caleb remembered how we made him feel despite forgetting. in X-02, we held onto the name 'Caleb' and how it made us feel warm, despite forgetting the major details).
SO.
EACH TIME. THAT WE, YOU, MC DIES. AND HE REMINDS US WHO WE ARE!!!
THE MEMORY OF HOW HE MADE US FEEL DOES NOT FADE. AND THE ATTACHMENT ONLY GETS STRONGER EACH TIME!
SUBCONSCIOUSLY, HE STILL REMAINS IMPRINTED ON US, NO MATTER HOW LITTLE WE REMEMBER. AND THAT? WILL PILE UP.
we let things slide with caleb because of that attachment that kept piling subconsciously. we still trust him because he is the one thing that we saw each time we came back, and he held our hand and said "I know who you are, you can trust me, I am right here with you", and we remember that despite everything, Caleb is Caleb, he is warmth, he is familiarity, no matter what, BECAUSE HE HAS IMPRINTED ON US SINCE FOREVER AGO!
THANK YOU FOR COMING TO THIS TED TALK

Dating L would be like...

Death Note L Lawliet x gender neutral reader
(I'm aware that the picture says girlfriend but the gender of the reader is not specified in the fic. The pictures were also edited by me).
Fluff // One shot
Summary: L was more like a machine than a human, he was cold, calculated and a "no fun and games" type of person aside from the occasional sarcastic or dry humored comment. L never lost his composure and would repress any emotion he had as a intimidation tactic. He was blunt and wouldn't allow anything or anyone to dethrone him.
However around you, L wasn't quite that...
The task force had suspected you and L were a couple, but whenever anyone asked about it, L would quickly shut down the conversation and went back to his work, saying that it wasn't any of their business. You and L were a couple but he just wanted to keep things secretive and professional since doing otherwise made him feel vulnerable.
He couldn't let his suspect Light know how much you meant to him just in case he used it against him, plus it was just in L's nature to be serective.
However as soon the doors were closed and the task force was gone, he would be nuzzling into your shoulder, whining for attention. He would never stop clinging onto you until he got he's way because in his own words, "I'm also childish and don't like to lose".
Like today for instance:
"Not now Lolly, I've got an appointment to book", you said sighing while L continued kissing your neck and nibbling your ear from behind. "I love you but I do not appreciate your lack of cooperation" L then grumbled.
Lolly was your main pet name for L since it sounded like it was short for lollipop, (and we all know how much L loves those) and sounded similar to his real name, Lawliet. Panda was also another common one since he reminded you of one with his dark eyes and pale skin.
He then kneeled in between your legs with his head resting on your thigh, looking up at you in annoyance in an attempt to guilt trip you, (however he couldn't mask he's pleading eyes). "Lolly I already told you I'm busy, just 10 more minutes okay my love?" you cooed while stroking his cheek. But L didn't care, he picked you up bridal style from your chair and tossed you onto the bed. "Lawliet, you should know of all people how important it is to not have any distractions from your work" you said rasing an eyebrow. "You make a fair point" L says with his thumb on his lip, "But I'm not feeling very empathetic tonight" then he proceeded to smother you with kisses.
Your dates were either cafe hopping, picnics in the park, or L trying to teach you tennis. You would always try to get him to wear shoes but he would refuse, saying "I don't like how they feel". "I know but I don't want you to step on a piece of glass and hurt yourself" you would say while kissing his forehead. "I will live" L would reply while blushing from your kiss. You would then sigh and take off your shoes, "Fine, if that's how you want to play" and you both would walk around barefoot.
Another thing L wouldn't budge on is removing all the cameras and wiring taps from your room, if someone broke in and tired to hurt you he needed to know immediately who was responsible so he could toss them in jail forever. He valued your life way more than his, afterall, he did challenge Kira to kill him live on broadcast.
L absolutely loved when you taunted his number one suspect Light, in fact it was his love language.
"I'm not Kira!" Light would yell.
"You're not a very convincing actor Light, but hey! Maybe they'll give you an academy award in prison just for trying. Light Yagami! Mass murderer tries playing innocent victim!".
As a detective, L would always be analysising people's behaviour and you were no expectation.
"How was your day darling?" L cooed.
"Fine. I'm going to my room".
You say that you're fine Y/N yet you're tone and lack of physical affection would indicate otherwise. Could you be trying to deprive me of your attention as an indirect punishment? What could have I done?
However, you did mention how your work load has increased because of the lack of empyoees, were you stressed from that and simply avoided me to avoid talking about it? I should confront you instead of making any assumptions, it could make matters worse because you might believe that I am deliberately ignoring you.
"Love, I believe I have done something to upset you, please tell me what it is was so I can correct my behaviour. Will you accept this piece of cake as a initial peace offering? If I'm not to blame then please tell me who's bothering you so I can potentially sue them".

I love picking apart death note because it’s so evident from htr that o&o did not intend ANYTHING other than making an entertaining story which means anything can be canon if I squint hard enough because technically nothing is canon
Matsuda has one throwaway line in the manga about his dad being disappointed in him when he quits the police (yotsuba arc)? Well maybe his dad was a police officer too and pressured himself bf Matsuda actually wanted to work in a completely different sector and
does Sayu know that something is Up with Light? Maybe she does, maybe not, and both are interesting to explore
who were Aiber and Wedy really? How did L meet them? What was their relationship like?
How did Mello join the mafia? How old was he? I’d like to imagine a freshly 15 year old Mello with the head of a rival gang leader (head bit is canon somehow!) turning up on their doorstep
you can analyse literally anything because they expanded on nothing except the main plot. Ohba didn’t even mean for apples to have any symbolism ffs you can ship just about anything and it’ll be equally as canon

I'm just a girl… I'm alone, on my own. No one wanted to play with me as a little kid, nobody ever lets me in. Something different bloomed writing in my room. I see the great escape, I play my songs in the parking lot just to learn that my dreams aren't rare. Maybe I'm just a girl on a mission but I'm ready to fly in the angel's city, chasing fortune and fame. No one in my small town thought I'd meet these suits in L.A. and the camera flashes make it look like a dream. The kind of radiance you only have at 17, making my own name, chasing that fame. The crown is stained, but you're the real queen selling dreams, selling make up and magazines and your secrets end up splashed on the news front page. No cameras catch my pageant smile and my cheeks are growing tired from turning red and faking smiles. They said, "Babe, you gotta fake it till you make it" and I did. Cause ladies always rise above, so I became the butt of the joke. Talk your talk and go viral 'cause, baby, I could build a castle out of all the bricks they threw at me. Crowd goes wild at her fingertips but there's robbers to the east, clowns to the west. I tried to pick my battles 'til the battle picked me. I was in the alley surrounded on all sides. Brought a knife to a gunfight. I looked around in a blood-soaked gown and tried to tell the town. You said the gun was mine, so they filled my cell with snakes. They say I did something bad then tell me I'm despicable. People look at me like I'm a monster. Now they're screaming that they hate me. I can feel the flames on my skin, and you find something to wrap your noose around. They're burning all the witches even if you aren’t one. So light me, and if I'm on fire, you'll be made of ashes too. So I leap from the gallows, and I levitate down your street. I didn't want to have to haunt you but I've got a list of names and yours is in red, underlined. They say, "move on", but all I think about is karma. I've come too far to watch some namedropping sleaze tell me what are my words worth. My pennies made your crown. You had to kill me, but it killed you just the same. The knife cuts both ways, look at how my tears ricochet. Them's the breaks, they don't come gently. It still hurts underneath my scars from when they pulled me apart, and I can go anywhere I want just not home. He's got my past frozen behind glass but I've got me. I’m still on that trapeze. I'm still trying everything to keep you looking at me. Lights, camera, bitch smile. I can still make the whole place shimmer. I pushed each boulder up the hill, climbed right back up the cliff 'cause there were pages turned with the bridges burned. Ask me why so many fade, but I'm still here. Always risin' from the ashes 'cause I'm a real tough kid, I can handle my shit. I gave my blood, sweat, and tears for this. And at last she knew what the agony had been for. I built a legacy that you can't undo. Long story short, I survived. You're on your own, kid. You always have been.

I love Zayne, I love him.
He is such a good foil to Caleb’s character.
Watching the Heartstring Notes memory on yt and oml, his quote “the premise of recounting the past is knowing the impossibility of having a shared future together. Otherwise the future should be the topic, not what’s past. Right?”
Zayne knows he will have a future with mc, and he is willing to fight for it. Whatever he is against, a curse or a god, or even saving a patient, he will persevere. Especially when it comes to mc, he will fight tooth and claw to get to her.
Caleb and Zayne are both scared of losing her, but go about it in different ways. Caleb clings onto their past for a plethora of reasons, but that’s the thing he knows he’s already had. He can guarantee that he will have those forever, but he doesn’t fully know if he’ll be by her side in the future. All of that scares him, and because of his fear he responds with manipulation, control, and possessiveness.
Zayne is scared of losing her. Not in the same way though, he is terrified of losing her because be could lose control and hurt her. He knows they were together in the past, but instead of clinging to it, he will fight for them to be together in the future. He has not resigned himself to it, like Caleb has.
Caleb feels like he has no control over his fate, and has resigned himself to it.
Zayne knows he has no control over his fate, but he does not sit in it, he fights for the control. He fights to get what he wants.
They’re both pawns in greater games, they both know it, but one fights to become a queen and the other becomes complacent with being stalemated.
They’re such cool and complicated characters.

So... I found out L from death note knows capoeira....

I dont know how to make an introdution for this, I just love capoeira so so so much, bute here you go!)
ANALYSING L´S CAPOEIRA AND FIGURING OUT WHICH MOVES HE USED!
In the episode, the fight it self was really short, but L was able to give 2 kicks. And the secound one is a spin kick from a standing position.
The firts one
The first one he is in the ground at first, he kicks, then ends up standing before being pulled by the chain he was using.
At first I thought he used the chapa, this move is both a defensive and offensive move -- you kick your opponent and swing backwards to scape from another attacks in one go-- and because of the way he finished the kick, this initial guess.
But then I noticed the he started the kick from the ground... And the chapa is a movement that sarts from the base!!! (base is the "default" position of capoeira, the ginga, aka upright.) Then I tried to remember which kicks started from a (almost) sitting position: THE CHIBATA OF COURSE
Not only does it start from the ground, but it ends in a standing position just like L did. And (its difficult to see because of the video quality... sorry) the arms kinda math at some point, and I blame the difference from the two in the super-dramatic-anime-slow-motion.
CONCLUSION: CHIBATA
The second one
My friend who is not even a capoerist helped me figure this one out: The meia-lua-de-compasso and the rabo-de-arraia are two spin kicks (just like L did), and they only differ because the meia-lua-de-compasso uses hands, while the other doesn't
Because L had just one hand on the ground right before landing, I thought it was meant to be a rabo-de-arraia, but then he lost his balance, and placed one hand on the ground so he wouldn't fall. I said this to my friend and they replied: "L would not lose his balance 💔". With my interest peaked, I went searching, and lo-and-behold, there actually exists a variant of the meia-lua-de-compasso with only one hand!
(I also tested if it would be possible with the chains, and surprisingly, it would and it would be that much harder either)
CONCLUSION: MEIA-LUA-DE-COMPASSO

Are those constellations? Drawn on the wall, supposedly in Lilo’s room? With Hawaiian names?
No. It is important to me that people understand. No.
Lilo has carefully decided-upon interests. Don’t you guys think it’s interesting that in the original movie they could have said, “hey, the little girl is going to have her life invaded by outer space aliens; why don’t we make her an outer space enthusiast?” but they didn’t?
Have you ever wondered why that is? Because again, somebody had to choose what would decorate her room. People had to decide what her interests would be. Ever wondered why they picked what they did?
Partly it’s because Chris Sanders likes fun creepiness and dark silly stuff.
But also, Lilo is a character who’s wrapped up in wanting to have someone who stays.
So she takes pictures of tourists, as if they’re “fascinating creatures” even though they’re people like her. Why do you think that is? It’s because she knows they’re leaving. She’s 7 and she knows that there are people who come to her town specifically to leave. So she treats them like exotic anomalies. Because she doesn’t want the “norm” to be “people leave.”
Also, she’s supposed to add onto her desire for people to stay a certain characteristic called “loneliness.” She doesn’t have friends. Why doesn’t she have friends? Because she’s bizarre. She’s a little weird. She likes making voodoo experiments and she makes up stories about fish controlling the weather and she makes up wacky names.
So the two ingredients you have that make up this little girl are:
Is lonely and wants people to stay in her little world.
Is a little weird and has weird interests.
Her room’s not decorated with “OUT THERE, AWAY FROM EVERYTHING SHE KNOWS” stuff because Lilo doesn’t have an interest in the “world outside of Hawaii,” as a place. Lilo loves her own little world. Her favorite singer isn’t a flashy new one, it’s Elvis, ol’ reliable. Her room is decorated with fish. And fishing nets. And seashells.
She’s not a Hawaiian bored with Hawaii but excited about the literal-furthest-place-you-could-go-from-Hawaii, OUTER SPACE. She’s NOT.
She loves her own little world, and she wants everyone she loves to stay in it, because her parents just died. Just left, out of her life, forever. When we meet her, she’s not a character with dreams who needs someone to believe in her or validate her. That’s other characters. It’s not LILO. Lilo is a character who needs Stitch because she’s lonely and she’s lost people and she’s not easy to love, herself. She’s not a character who needs Stitch the way Ariel needs Eric. Jeez.
She’s a desperate-to-STAY-faithful-and-have-others-STAY-with-her character. Not an “Out There” character.
And that stuffed animal? Lilo does not do pink poodles.

Hogwarts House Sorting: LaDs Edition (and why Caleb isn't who you think he is)
Remember: Hogwarts houses aren’t restrictive boxes. Each person, real or fictional, carries traits from all houses. What determines sorting is not only personality but core values and priorities. This analysis takes into account that nice Slytherins and gentle Gryffindors exist, breaking stereotypes to portray a nuanced, realistic perspective. Let me know your thoughts and your own house headcanons!
Xavier – Primary: Gryffindor | Secondary: Slytherin
Though Xavier outwardly appears gentle and calm, his behavior aligns with core Gryffindor traits: courage, impulsivity, and rebelliousness against injustice. He's not merely courageous out of circumstance; he actively seeks out risks. His creation of the flashy alter-ego "Lumiere" showcases his bravery - and perhaps recklessness - perfectly embodying Gryffindor's inclination toward flashy acts of heroism. His decision to rebel against his royal lineage in Philos, openly defying his father the king who sacrificed innocent lives, further emphasizes his alignment with Gryffindor values - specifically, moral courage. Xavier willingly sacrifices personal safety and stability to fight for what's right and travels back in time, reflecting true Gryffindor spirit. Reasoning for secondary Slytherin: He is sneaky and a little manipulative at times and fully knows what effect his innocent looks have - and uses that to his advantage. You notice this especially during Fluffy Trap. Somehow he is always a few steps ahead of MC and tricks her!
Positive: Courageous, protective, strong moral compass, heroic.
Negative: Reckless, impulsive, stubborn, often acts without foresight.
Zayne – Primary: Ravenclaw | Secondary: Hufflepuff
Zayne's core value truly lies in his relentless pursuit of knowledge and understanding. Importantly, intelligence alone doesn't warrant a Ravenclaw placement - it's the priority given to knowledge and wisdom that defines them. Zayne consistently demonstrates that acquiring knowledge - medical or metaphysical - isn't merely practical for him; it's essential to who he is and what he wants to accomplish (saving MC's life). As the Foreseer and Master of Fate, Zayne’s life revolves around carefully acquired knowledge to make decisions of enormous consequence. His choices are rarely guided by impulse or emotion alone, but always supported by intellectual clarity. His calm, methodical approach underscores his Ravenclaw essence. Reasoning for secondary Hufflepuff: Beneath his logical, stoic exterior, Zayne consistently demonstrates deep-rooted loyalty, compassion, and genuine care. His medical profession and the tireless effort he invests to protect and heal highlight his sincere dedication to the well-being of others. His actions are not driven by glory or recognition, but by quiet, steadfast commitment and genuine empathy.
Positive: Wise, analytical, thoughtful, innovative, responsible.
Negative: Detached emotionally, overly analytical, may appear cold or indifferent.
Rafayel – Primary: Slytherin | Secondary: Ravenclaw
Rafayel strongly aligns with the house of Slytherin through his complex motivations, secrecy, and charm. His playful exterior masks carefully concealed ambitions and plans. His network within the N109 zone and hidden dealings demonstrate his adeptness at navigating complex social dynamics - classic Slytherin traits of cunning and adaptability. His artistic temperament and charisma further illustrate how Slytherins can embody traits often associated with other houses, like creativity and charm, while still prioritizing ambition, resourcefulness, and strategy as their core values. Rafayel exemplifies that Slytherins can have good hearts but choose to show vulnerability selectively, preserving an enigmatic persona. He keeps his cards very close and even MC gets to see them very rarely. Reasoning for secondary Ravenclaw: He’s deeply artistic, driven by a curiosity for truth, meaning, and beauty. These qualities align well with Ravenclaw’s love for learning, creativity, and understanding deeper meanings. His exploration of art as a means to expose societal corruption and his intellectual depth behind each masterpiece clearly display Ravenclaw traits.
Positive: Charismatic, strategic, resourceful, artistic, adaptable.
Negative: Secretive, occasionally manipulative, holds grudges, guarded emotionally.
Sylus – Primary: Slytherin | Secondary: Hufflepuff
Sylus is the epitome of modern, multifaceted Slytherins. Ambition and cunning don’t inherently equate to villainy; Sylus demonstrates Slytherin's core traits positively and negatively. He is deeply ambitious and maintains strategic long-term thinking, always planning steps ahead. His network of connections, meticulous strategies, and hidden plans further highlight his resourcefulness and adaptability - key Slytherin virtues. Yet Sylus also showcases a softer, family-oriented side, demonstrating that Slytherins deeply value loyalty and closeness, particularly within tight-knit circles. He’s fiercely protective of those he genuinely cares for, and despite his outward harshness, this selective loyalty underscores a balanced, nuanced Slytherin personality. Reasoning for secondary Hufflepuff: I can't really tell you why - it's just a feeling. I don't have a lot of his cards, but I did watch some of them on YT. You can tell me in the comments what you think. (this applies to the other LIs too)
Positive: Ambitious, resourceful, strategic, family-oriented, selectively loyal.
Negative: Manipulative, secretive, mistrustful, sometimes morally ambiguous.
Caleb – Primary: Hufflepuff | Secondary: Ravenclaw
Caleb embodies the genuine warmth and humble spirit often overlooked when discussing Hufflepuffs. While traditionally bravery is a Gryffindor trait, Caleb’s bravery is more circumstantial than inherent; life forced him into courageous roles rather than him seeking them out. His core identity is rooted deeply in kindness, gentleness, loyalty, and humility - all quintessential Hufflepuff values. Caleb’s universal kindness, even to those he's not romantically interested in, emphasizes his innate empathy and respect for others. He's beloved by peers not because he's overtly charismatic, but because he's genuinely thoughtful and attentive. He cooks and enjoys food - not for validation or prestige - but for the simple joy of it and to see his loved ones enjoy it, deeply resonating with Hufflepuff’s comfort-oriented nature. His protective behavior towards the MC arises not from a desire to be a hero, but from trauma-induced loyalty and deep-seated love. This fierce loyalty, shaped by childhood trauma, is the hallmark of a Hufflepuff pushed beyond comfort into challenging circumstances. It’s precisely this loyalty and quiet strength that makes Caleb a true Hufflepuff, not Gryffindor. (He is basically Cedric Diggory - just more alive ... barely.) Reasoning for secondary Ravenclaw: He shows great intellectual capacity, strategic thinking, and analytical clarity. He adapts to complicated situations (this is an understatement) using intellect, precision, and careful planning. Caleb attempts to find logical ways to cope and protect even in traumatic circumstances. His genuine curiosity, analytical problem-solving, and sharp observational skills reflect Ravenclaw characteristics beneath his Hufflepuff core.
Positive: Loyal, empathetic, humble, compassionate, steadfast., kind.
Negative: Overly self-sacrificing, can be obsessive, passive-aggressive under stress.
Read about why he isn't a Slytherin further below.
MC – Primary: Gryffindor | Secondary: ???
MC’s Gryffindor traits are unmistakable. At her core, bravery, competition, and the desire for truth and justice guide her actions. She doesn't simply endure challenges; she actively seeks them out, recklessly engaging in dangerous missions and confrontations. Her grief-induced impulsivity and rebelliousness also fit Gryffindor perfectly, as she channels loss and trauma into daring missions without a thorough plan. However, this recklessness is balanced by genuine bravery and a powerful drive to protect and avenge those she loves. Her pursuit of justice - even when dangerous or irrational - is a defining characteristic, making her a Gryffindor through and through.
Positive: Courageous, determined, loyal, passionate about justice.
Negative: Impulsive, stubborn, reckless, tends to leap before looking.
But Caleb is definitely a Slytherin you say?
It makes sense why people would place Caleb into Slytherin based on his Colonel arc. But personally, I see Caleb's "cunning" and manipulation not as inherent character values, but as coping mechanisms shaped by trauma and survival instinct. It's important to distinguish between a person's true core values and the traits they've been forced to develop under extreme circumstances. Caleb’s story is one of deep emotional trauma - losing loved ones, being subjected to invasive experiments, and being manipulated into a position he never truly wanted. He didn’t choose cunning or ambition willingly; rather, those became survival tools in response to severe situations he faced. (it's more like his Ravenclaw side coming to the forefront to help him survive) In his youth, Caleb was naturally kind, humble, and nurturing - classic Hufflepuff traits. He didn't seek power, nor did he find joy in manipulation or secrecy. The Colonel storyline showcases a deeply hurt and scarred person fighting for the little control left in his life, driven primarily by loyalty and protectiveness toward MC. His methods might resemble those traditionally associated with Slytherin, but his motivations remain firmly rooted in loyalty, compassion, and the desire for a peaceful, simple life. Additionally, Hufflepuffs aren't devoid of complexity - they can exhibit cunning, resourcefulness, and determination when their loved ones are threatened. These traits aren't exclusive to Slytherins; what differentiates the houses is the underlying core value. For Caleb, cunning isn't an inherent value; it's a tragic necessity. At his core, he's guided by warmth, empathy, and loyalty - the values of a true Hufflepuff pushed into a darker, harsher reality. So, while Caleb absolutely shows "cunning" and resourcefulness, these traits alone don't define him. They're reactions, not values. At heart, Caleb is still that caring, emotionally intelligent Hufflepuff trying desperately to protect the person he loves most, even if he must walk a morally gray path to do so. Caleb is such a deeply nuanced character. He isn’t embracing cunning because it aligns with his heart - he’s forced into it by circumstances beyond his control. Caleb is essentially walking a tightrope, pretending to be the cold, calculating Colonel that EVER expects him to be (the perfect weapon), precisely because that's the only way he can maintain some small degree of freedom and protect himself (and MC) from their control. The Toring Chip isn't just a physical implant - it's symbolic of the trauma and manipulation he's endured (and is still enduring). Caleb's actions and outward persona reflect not his true nature, but his desperate fight to keep that nature intact beneath the surface. His core Hufflepuff kindness and empathy never disappear; they're hidden behind the mask he must wear to survive. It's a heartbreaking struggle between his authentic self and the identity EVER wants to impose upon him. That’s precisely why calling Caleb a cunning Slytherin overlooks the heart of his character - he isn't ambitious or manipulative by choice, nor does he derive satisfaction or pride from it. He's a victim of cunning, not its master.

I think leoneed should play dnd
Ichika would dm and every time she describes an npc the description happens to match up with the design of a vocaloid/utau/vocal synth. At some point they encounter a shrine with a statue and Shiho goes “is the statue Miku” and Ichika vehemently denies it (it is)
every time they walk through the forest they spend five real life hours trying to pet the animals. It gets to the point where Ichika stops making them roll for animal handling hoping it’ll make them get through the forest faster. This just encourages them to pet more animals
the second they enter any village Honami immediately asks if there’s a bakery. If there is a bakery, does it sell apple pies? Oh it does? Can they go get apple pies? And then over half their gold is gone by the time they leave the village
they reach the big bad and saki asks if they can beat the BBEG through the power of friendship and music like they did in a movie she saw one time. Ichika humors her. They manage to win immediately, dismantling all of Ichika’s preparations. This campaign has been running for eight real life months, taking up practice time, and was just beat by saying “friendship is magic” and singing a song

okay so i feel like we don't talk enough about light giving up tennis. we don't get a glimpse of kid light in elementary school (before the death note) either. but it's probably safe to say he was just as bored as he is when we see him in the first volume.
okay so imagine that you're light, you know?
you're good at studies but bored and then one day in middle school you discover tennis and then there's something other than studying you can lose yourself in. it's tiring, it's sweaty and dirty and brutal (if you've seen tennis you know what i'm talking about) and it gives you a chance to not be refined, to not be controlled. because the very point of tennis is to lose control.
you play and you learn that you're good at it, and then you naturally claw your way up to the top and now you have an excuse to act in a way you know you shouldn't. so you take hold of the sport and never let go.
but then you graduate and everyone's telling you you need to focus on your studies to go to a good university. they're telling you you need to give everything else up. you know what distractions mean and you know that this is the end of the line for you.
so you give it up. but some part of you will always be thinking about the inherent insanity of the game, the feeling that you never can feel again.
the moment you lose yourself is when you give up tennis. it's not the sport, not really---it goes so much deeper than that but you don't know how to explain it. you're back to the boredom you thought you could escape from three years ago.
so your racket collects dust in your closet. until one day you discover something else---something more sinister, something as interesting---up and recognise it as a game, a player that matches you. until one day that player comes along, and that is the last and final time you will pick your racket up.

i don't think light ever played tennis after the match with l. i don't think he could bear to. how can you go back to that?

interesting how Mello asks "why" L is dead. you would think asking "how" or "when" he died would be more appropriate, but instead, he is asking why the world's greatest detective, the man he has spent his entire life striving to succeed, is dead.
why is he dead? why is he leaving so soon? why is he expecting Mello and Near to solve the case he could not? they are just children, after all.

the more I think about Light’s death the more sick I feel actually.
going specifically anime here because the whole ending makes me feel genuinely ill to watch
light is (obviously) a mass murderer, someone with very little regard for human suffering or the value of life outside of whether they follow the law or not (follow him or not). He has killed people in countless ways, accidents, disease, and most prolifically, his classic heart attack. But he always kills from afar. He is detached from the act. He writes their names and a cause and they die. Which makes it all the more brutal that he is killed twice, in practice. When Matsuda shoots him it is personal, it is emotive, it is right in front of him and he can’t deny that someone pulled the trigger with intent and he feels the searing pain a hundred times over. It’s not detached, it’s utterly human. And he hasn’t really experienced that before. He’s only 23, and he’s been doing this since he was 17. No doubt about it, he should die here. but he runs.
and the spirit and the flesh are separate, so Ryuk kills the other half. His Godly side, the part of him that saw himself above humanity, who killed with an instantaneous heart attack. And so he is killed with the same method. And that’s what gets him. Not the bullet wounds, but the same thing that he dished out, hundreds of thousands of times.
and he dies alone. Alone, halfway up the stairs, halfway between immortal and god. But he was killed both ways. And he is alone. Light Yagami, the man who relied on his charm above all else, who had trained detectives wrapped around his finger for years and women throwing themselves all over him died alone, halfway up the stairs and bleeding out. It maybe says something, then, that he saw L.
Something that he looks almost at peace with it, in the end.
