Submas sketchdump! Vol. 1

April-June 2022

Literally dumping all the presentable works as promised, whether I'm proud of them or not! This is where I started, even before the first thing I posted online (That subway station one). Many of these are not on Twitter yet so there's lots to see!

The top piece above the header is my very first digital Submas artwork!! I never finished it bc I didn't know how to pull my vision of as I wanted & started modeling the train and didn't finish that either, whoops! I really want to remake this later and make it super cool!

^^^ My reaction to breaking 500 likes & 100 followers in a single day with my first tweet (the battle subway one) all the way back in May!! I was completely floored by all the attention, oh how it skyrocketed my excitement and anxiety! Crazy times, I was so super nervous to be there with so many amazing artists and doubted if I could ever survive there ahahah!! Many had joined the community much much earlier than me, so I had arrived with a late train to PLA/neo Submas hype!

One of my fav sketches! Been saving this for so long bc I really really want to finish this one day!

One of the first submas sketches with an actual story behind it! The subway bosses are running late for their flight because they didn't pass the safety check! The irony!! This would never happen as bosses are always on schedule. But Emmet hadn't noticed a wild Joltik hiding under his coat, so he set up the alarm and they got examined and interrogated of smuggling! How embarrassing for them! The bosses resolved the situation by catching the Joltik, but will they be able to catch their flight anymore?? Maybe if Elesa can distract the stuerts performing the safety protocol for a minute!

A few examples of how my pencil sketches evolve.

I've done so much art experimenting with submas. I really like this black & white painting but I don't think I'll finish it anytime soon.

Where did you go?

The way I draw the twins' faces has changed a lot. They started with softer features and somewhat neutral emotions, because I wasn't as familiar with them or comfortable drawing them yet. Now there's hundreds of submas sketches, and they still keep evolving! My style is also kinda hard to pull off well, so their features differ from picture to picture.

This one was inspired by some submas music videos, can't recall their names anymore. The glowing eerie eyes and yellow&orange + black&white color schemes were neat!

I keep telling myself I need to draw more butlers, these twinks look so lean and neat and have more color and are posh with their monocles and have fun tailcoats!

(...why eyeglasses are not called binocles??)

I was there for the vinegar chaos. Good times!

hi!! im working on a story that takes place at a 2012 public high school - the issue with that is that i was not in high school in 2012 lmao. do you have any tips on how to keep it feeling realistic?

Well, neither was I!! But here are some tips:

Define Your General Setting

Sure, high school has a different feel compared to an average town/city setting. However, it is still a part of the bigger community, and will be impacted by external factors.

What part of the world are your writing about? What's the general economy like? What's the most common occupation of the kid's parents? What's the prevailing fashion/art/music style?

Your teens will be impacted by the popular culture and trends of the time, so start by outlining the general setting!

Fashion

I think this is where schools have changed the most. There are going to be some overlaps between early 2010s and late 2000s, so if you think in the direction of Y2K fashion, it should fit.

On a general note, I think 2010s fashion was vibrant, with lots of colors and flashy items...

Side fringes and backcombed/straightened hair were still very popular

most girls had huge messy sock buns on top of their heads

boys had the Justin Bieber cut.

Jack Wills and Hollister were pretty popular, and a lot of girls had a Paul's Boutique jacket and a Jane Norman bag for their PE kit (or one of the Hollister bags with a topless guy on).

Converse were universally cool, and there were lots of imitation brands.

Open flannel shirt over a t-shirt was a pretty popular outfit.

Skinny jeans and band t-shirts

bright chunky rubber band bracelets.

Vans were cool among the alternative kids.

Getting different colours on your braces was cool.

Most of the boys had at least one of those t-shirts with the buttons and the mismatched cuffs.

School-uniform-wise, short ties with big fat knots were cool, and hard kids would pluck a stripe or two out of their tie.

Tucking in shirts was initially not cool, then it became cool to tuck at the front but not the back.

Lots of boys wore black trainers, and lots of girls wore those ballet pumps.

Girls doing their lips with their foundation, with a thick ring of black eyeliner and spidery clumpy mascara - and having a visible orange line where your foundation met your neck was common.

Multiple ear piercings were popular with the alternative crowd

Belly button piercings were big for girls

Just search up some pictures on Google, you should get plenty of "Early 2010s teen fashion starter pack"

Social Media

Smartphones were already popular, and with the introduction of Snapchat(2011) and Instagram(2010), the social media hype was just starting to boom

Facebook and Twitter were popular - basically everyone was on it

TikTok(2016) and Discord(2015) didn't exist yet

Pictochat

Phones were allowed in the classroom, but phones/laptops weren't an important part of school work like it is now.

Digital Devices

Phones-wise, most people had pretty basic dumbphones (although they were just called mobiles back then), and not everyone carried them all the time

Blackberry (BBM), Nokia, LG Cholate, iPhone if you're rich enough

Most kids were on PAYG phones, so you'd run out of credit sometimes (i.e. no more calls or texts) and have to go to a physical shop to top up. Nobody really had data, and there was always a moment of panic if you accidentally opened the web browser on your phone because it was so expensive. Wifi became a thing around 2012.

Nintendo DSes: Mario Kart, Animal Crossing, Nintendogs

iPods or another MP3 Player

Slang-wise, Urban Dictionary is a good resource.

Fleek, peng and YOLO were popular with some crowds. Leetspeak was a thing online, especially in nerdy communities. Emoji were starting to take off

For YA Novels - Be Timeless

Before you start doing any of the things above, remember this if you're writing a YA novel: The key of this genre is to feel somewhat timless, taking readers back to their high school years no matter when and where they've gone through it.

High school is the phase where many people feel awkward, unsure of themselves, feeling special in their own head but knowing that they're not really.

And it's not like the problems just disappear when we hit adult life. A major reason why YA novels are so popular is that they address themes that are repeatedly felt by the general human being, often in a such a direct, straightforward way that provides vicarious satisfaction.

so. first up, runaan. he has wire inside so he has some degree of movement, but he's also quite stuffed and the movement is unfortunately limited

i've been crocheting for a year, so the idea of coming up with my own patterns for his clothes was terrifying. therefore, i ended up doing just his boots, pants and the vest (it's hot in the silvergrove this time of the year, he doesn't need the shirt or the coat 😅), plus of course the horn cuffs. all accesories are removable of course. the original idea for the pendant was for it to be just one strand with a loop at the end but it didn't look good at all so i switched to something way simpler and more effective)

i suck at embroidery and i hate it but what can you do 🫠

so i made runaan first and he was going to be a little birthday gift to myself, but ofc it'd be criminal to make only him and the plan has always been to make him a little ethari too. i finished him on the 5th so i guess it all ended up being a gift for him 🤣

once i saw his turnarounds, though, it took me quite some time to hype myself up to actually start making him, because it's so many different clothes with no existing patterns and they're all so detailed (runaan's were too but i had gained some confidence while making him and wanted to work on ethari properly) 😩 still, i somehow did it.

i did change the flap of fabric hanging from his belt as i had no way of making a smooth ombre transition from purple to dark turquoise like he actually has it - so instead of 2 jarring colours, it's 4 jarring colours 😂 and i also didn't do the embroidery on that part and it made me very happy - especially since there was plenty of embroidery i couldn't skip

and just like with runaan, all of his articles of clothing are removable (the flap is sewn onto the belt, and the green patches are sewn onto the boots but other than that, everything is separate)

there is, however, one issue 😅 i think it stems from a couple of choices i made: 1. i used a different, slightly thicker type of yarn for ethari's body than i did for runaan; 2. i used a 3,0 mm hook instead of 2,5 mm; and 3. i messed up the patterns for ethari's limbs (i did them in rounds instead of rows; it was late and i was tired and by the time i realised that, i was on the 3rd one & couldn't be bothered to scrap them all - which i probably should have done XD oh well).

the first 2 choices were deliberate as ethari is canonically a little bit taller than runaan, but umm...

let's just assume elves grow until they're 40 or so, and so after 2 years in the coin, runaan stayed behind 😅

oh, and i also wanted them to be able to hold hands so they have magnets in their hands but in the end, they weren't strong enough to still work through two layers of yarn ☹️ i guess i could still use a little clasp but we'll see about that

so yeah. here they are 😊

However, personally I feel like Jure is way more extroverted than I am and so I am glad to see Nace being the second highest :'D I feel like we do indeed share a sense of calm/silent presence while still being able to join in on the fun - I think where I might divert from Nace is that I am definitely not good at being the mom friend :'D x'D

Alright, I thought about it last night a bit.

I may just stop forcing myself to do the usual 'male v monday' 'shippy saturday' 'thirsty thursday' 'wip wednesday' stuff (I mean I can't even manage to keep up with that either) and instead post whenever I want, like I do on Friday already when everyone is posting their gorgeous females but I (if I post) do post my boys since I do not have any female oc.

I don't know if I'll completely abandon the tags for it or not. it's gonna be more: if I manage to post on that day, I'll add it, if not, I'll reblog and then tag it with the tag or sth like that.

I will still try and take my at least 30min of time a day (mostly after work around 6pm German time) to browse tblr. Queue often makes noe sense to me, sometimes I use ib when I feel I've reblogged to much in a row already but I do not tage anything that will come from my queue so you won#t even notice that it was queued.

I've also set a few blogs on receive notifications so I do not miss any new posts. I love that feature! But sometimes I have to stop using it if a blog keeps posting like every 1h through the day which will give me 24 notes a day on my phone - forcing me to look and I can't do that. I need to find some balance somehow. Still a thing to figure out to have it healthy.

I do not want to abandon looking at content because you all create so many cool things, but in this fandom, as I already said it so many times: it is just so hard to keep up with it. So please do not be mad about me or think I do not like your stuff (anymore) because I've not liked/reblogged a thing lately of your content. I often feel very 'unmenschlich' (inhuman?) when I can't find time to give some love to others work bc I receive so much from all of you, therefore I want to give it back as well.

Idk how you manage having 4+ ocs btw. I with my 4 boys feel like I abandon at least one for too long (rn it is Vijay - and it makes me so incredibly sad, no one will probably understand). But I have to keep telling myself, he will receive a whole lot of attention and love again. However, this month is for Thyjs, because he's having his birthday soon (13th) and so I will focus on him in the first place.

I decided to slide in Jaysen for something else yesterday (because spontaneous things still happen) and I'll hopp in to take a bunch of pic of him as well once my writing here is done, bc he's modeling for some new real cool pants. And then I go back to my soldier boy doing the same (if I can manage bc taking pic … takes time xD).

I'll just need to find a balance when I do at least answer roleplay or do story writing because this also I feel very bad about It gets neglected the most, mainly because I've never been a writer. But I find such joy in it and I feel like a bad person that my rp partner always has to wait such long time until I answer. Some days I'd just love to thorw literally everything aside and just do rp 24h nonstop (we all know this doesn't work) because I love love love this story that developed in the past year and when I think about it I'm just so hyped to share it one day but it's a lot of work to do. It's gotten something like a lifetime project by now?

And I need to stop hording my drafts. Its getting ridiculous …

Do you love gargantuan Youtube video essays, and if so, which is your favorite and why?

I love watching those big YouTube video essays when I have the time of course. One of my favourites has to be “The Problem With DC’s Heroes” by the Cosmonaut Variety Hour. A close second would be “This video will change how you see Even” by Invaderzz. Honestly any type of video essay that delves deep into a certain piece of media I love is always fun to watchh

What is your go-to way to fall asleep?

If I need to fall asleep, usually I’ll either listen to some type of relaxing OST or song; immerse myself into a daydream/scenario and keep the plot going in my head until I fall asleep; or listen to an ASMR sleep aid.

What is your favourite of Redacted’s audios, and why?

I don’t really have a single favourite audio from Redacted, but one of my favourites that I always find myself re-listening to is Davids “Comforted After a Hard Day at Work by Your Alpha Werewolf Boyfriend.” The video itself first of all is so soft spoken so I’ll use it occasionally as background noise or as a sleep-aid. And the most obvious answer is that the video itself is so extremely comforting to me when I need a pick-me-up. (This is getting a bit personal) But I often do feel like I am a burden at times, and so David’s reassurance to Angel at 5:35 is what I often need to hear so thats amazing to have on standby. 

I’ll give you something extra, and tell you my most listened to video as of late (if it helps). But since the video released, I think I’ve listened to Regulus’ “Possessive Yonder Demon Rewrites Your Memories” at *least* 5 times. I love Vega and Regulus’ soft-spoken voices and the way they reverberate in my head, so this video was just so good in that aspect. Also, a lil yandere never hurt no one LMAOO

What Redacted boy holds no appeal to you, and why? Like, not the one you hate but the one who you don’t get the hype for. (I won’t judge, I promise.)

Regarding holding no appeal, I think I would have to say Lasko. It’s not that I don’t get the hype like I get why people gravitate towards him, but I just personally can never see him in a romantic light. He’s more of a bestie to me (there isn’t really any characters that I don’t get the hype over; I’m personally able to see the POV as to why people like certain characters that I personally don’t).

Which Redacted boy are you platonically attracted to? Like- forget dating, which dude do you want to be your best friend?

I really want to be best friends with Huxley. I wouldn’t be opposed to a romantic relationship, but I also would really love to be close friends with him. I naturally have a pretty sunshine personality, but I find myself obviously not being able to keep that up at all times and will often shut down. Huxley is the type of guy who I feel like is the best pick-me-up and his energy is just something I would love to surround myself with whenever possible. He’s also just such a cool guy and I often find myself re-watching his first video with freelancer, and his non-canon confession. His videos alone with Freelancer are the best testament as to how he would do anything for his friends, and his platonic love and care for the DAMN friend group is so admirable and loving.

If I’m going to the gas station, I’ll usually either get some type of sour candy like Sour Cherry Blasters or Sour Patch Kids, or a chip I love like Nacho Doritos or All-Dressed Ruffles! My go-to drink order (not at a Gas station) is usually either an Iced Cappuccino, or some type of cold brew or iced American from Starbucks (right now I LOVE the cinnamon caramel cream cold brew). If Im getting coffee, I don’t like it to be too bitter, but I also hate when its overly sweetened (and I LOVE caffeine XD).

In general, my favourite playlist on my music streaming things would be my sad vibes playlist I titled, “depressed bitch hours.” I just love the vibes of sad music what can I say

At the moment though, I’ve been constantly listening to my “fav OSTs” playlist, where I compiled my favourite orchestral tracks from media. I’ve been listening to “Violets Final Letter” by Evan Call a lot, but I also love “Pure Love” from the Seven Deadly Sins album, “Main Title: Nemo Egg” by Thomas Newman, and “Ahead of the Road” by Yutaka Yamada.

And whatever else you think tells me about who you are!

I find myself getting emotional attached to characters pretty quickly and hard. If a character is able to capture my heart, I will quickly find myself analyzing them as much as I can, figure out their motivations, and also just being extremely connected to what they do and the implications. 

I also see a trend in the characters who I latch on to and without blatantly giving you names (that may take away from the anonymity and make a bias), I really love a tsundere to put it plainly. To expand, in both Redacted and other ASMR/Audio RP character choices, I’ve gravitated towards the initially misunderstood and guarded character who I personally can see has another side to them. I love to be there as those layers are peeled back, and also there’s something so scrumptious to be able to be of aide in that peeling back. Also like, the ones I love have a sex and romantic appeal that is SO SCRUMPTIOUS.

My MBTI is INFJ

I'm a middle child, and the oldest daughter in an ethnic household so that combo makes for some interesting implications if you can imagine LOL

Oh, this is a no-brainer. A Type Nine needs a Type Six. The Peacemaker and the Loyalist are one of the best pairs in the Enneagram, and there’s no more loyal, reliable, engaged Type Six than Damien.

First off, Damien is absolutely the only child of an immigrant, single parent, POC household. Coming from me, an eldest daughter, it can be really important and just so comforting to be with someone who gets those family dynamics and the culture, the filial obligations and piety that come as along with that.

I really like the way that sort of presence would be so grounding yet… challenging in a way. Damien would absolutely support you when being sunshine-y and happy is too much, and he’d also encourage you to think about what might motivate you to be positive and sweet until you get to that point. (Nines tend to be huge people-pleasers, after all.)

(Also, both he and Huxley’d get on your case about taking breaks from all the caffeine and coffee with some water, and I think that’d be really cute.)

Name headcanons: (this probably very obvious) but T.J stands for Tim Jr.

And Johnson's full name is Joshua Johnson (the "what's your favorite word?" segment helped me with that one),,, everyone just refers to him by his last name because TJ does it so often.

Early/present (to the show's early seasons) ages (6-7):

- TJ and Johnson definitely met in first grade or second grade talking about Wordgirl whenever she first made her debut. I could see the scenario of a very shy, lonely Johnson admiring his classmate's (TJ) confidence and toughness (or what babies back in elementary thought was tough xD). Johnson immediately wanted TJ to be his friend since he didn't have any yet, and TJ being the little shit that he is, very much took advantage of Johnson's determination to be his friend and basically established their fanboy or sidekick dynamic.

- Johnson was very much aware that he was sorta being treated like a lackey by TJ, especially when it came to TJ founding the international Wordgirl fanclub. But both TJ and Johnson thought of it as a play time thing or pretend playing. They already did that a lot when it came to playing out Wordgirl's crime fighting so why not pretend to be a fierce president and a fierce loyal second in command. They took their play time in their roles pretty darn seriously that TJ and everyone else refers to him as Johnson because as president, TJ wanted to address Joshua Johnson by his last name like an authority figure would. Of course he did this so often that others didn't know anything about the shy Joshua Johnson that everyone automatically assumes that 'Johnson' is his first name. Johnson is perfectly cool with this.

- TJ and Johnson from then on basically do everything together, when it comes to completing classwork or playing, there are no other kids that TJ or Johnson would rather hang out with…(besides Chazz that one time but we'll get to that too.)

- Johnson envies TJ in a lot of ways despite also admiring him. For one, TJ is very confident and proud of his snarkiness. And two, his family life. Johnson's parents are divorced, his mother didn't want to bother fighting for custody so he lives with his father. His dad is a working man and lives in the more forest area of Fair City (like Violet's family does),so Johnson is often left alone while his dad tries to keep the lumber industry alive. (yes I have decided to make Johnson's father a lumberjack). Johnson's father is also the silent type but not shy…just not good with words or emotions. Whenever Johnson comes over at the Botsfords to play with TJ he gets hit with so much familial feels that it's too much. At least the only time where he could feel that similar Familial feeling is when he spends hanukkah with his mom.

- Johnson doesn't actually have the same hype about Wordgirl that TJ does, the main reason he actually acts hyped is because his best friend TJ is really excited and happy that it makes Johnson happy too.

A little bit later/present ( the show's middle and late seasons) ages (8-9):

- TJ has always been both a little stinker and insecure. With how he very much tries to hide his enjoyment for "girly" media, to how he doesn't openly show affection. It's kind of strange considering there doesn't seem to be any restricting gender norms or toxic masculinity at home that could make him act like that sometimes. So one headcanon that I have is that he mainly gets it from his other school peers or other more insecure boys he occasionally hangs out with. (we'll save this HC for later, it will become important 😊)

- Johnson and TJ of course enter the city's little baseball league together, however they're at opposite teams, this dismays them a bit, but soon they find it fun to be on opposite sides as they have another silly pretend game where they pretend to be fierce rivals.

- Johnson at this point starts having a kiddie crush on TJ now. Doing everything not to only keep his BFF but to impress him enough to show his feelings. TJ unfortunately doesn't notice it, thinking that Johnson is just clingy like that and because he's insecure pushes the poor boy away from his hugs or slight affections.

- This discourages Johnson and there's a brief period of time where Johnson ceases on that behavior. TJ feels bad and (misses his affections) so one day he secretly hugs Johnson back. Making Johnson confused as heck but enjoys the hug anyway.

After certain episodes/present ( the show's middle and late seasons) ages (8-9):

- (Oh boy "All that Chazz" time) (recommended watching this episode for some reasonings behind my headcanons XD)

- after the events of that episode TJ does slightly apologize to Johnson as he helps TJ redecorate his room back to its Wordgirl theme. He knows he pushed him aside for a kid who seemed cooler but was not cool at all. That Johnson is a real friend and he promises to never do that again.

Johnson is thankful and blushing as he also promises to not leave TJs side either. (but is disappointed to know that TJ technically doesn't see him as "cool")

- ("Go gadget Go" time..I I KNOW THIS EPISODE SUCKS SO MUCH FOR TOBECKY AND TOBEY BUT ITS GOOD WITH TJOHNSON AND JOHNSON DEVELOPMENT)

- Johnson is starting to feel more comfortable being himself and speaking up more. He's never fought with TJ like that before but he enjoyed standing his ground….even though he was then tricked by Tobey and started crying when TJ wanted to kick him out of *their* fanclub. He knows he messed up on letting Tobey do all his work for the competition but TJ has to admit that he can't be in charge all the time in their play time and friendship. TJ knows this and apologizes. He knows that he should have just admitted that Johnson was right and not try to treat him like a sidekick all the time when they hangout, after all that position is just pretend when they do fanclub stuff…right?

- After this, TJ makes an effort to try and be better when it comes to how he handles those closests to him. Basically after like a year TJ learns about actions and consequences along with some moral lessons as he grows. He doesn't want to be the annoying pesky brother all the time, just a little more mischievous but not rude. And he doesn't want to be more authoritative or troubled by Johnson's friendship/affection.

- ("What would Wordgirl do?")

- Turns out for TJ that not being authoritative or annoying on purpose all the time pays off. He's never really been a tough or mean boy, deep truly down he's much more gentler and sensitive than he wants anyone to see. And that is more present with how his relationship with Johnson has happened. TJ probably at times doesn't fully grasp his own crush on his best friend, but he does know that he can't run the fanclub without him or not be near him most of the time.

- So the boys are closer than ever, meaning that it's no secret to anyone who observes them that they both like each other in the cutest kid way ever. However they don't know what to really call each other then. Johnson, and TJ (a few times) sorta let it slip to each other how they feel, but they're 8 starting 9, they don't know anything about romance. So one day at recess they decide to make another game out of it…boyfriends or better bffs! TJ at least knows what a boyfriend is so he goes with that. They don't know exactly how to act like a "couple" ; it's mostly the label and more hugs that cements this new development...at least for TJ. Johnson is definitely ecstatic, he's wanted this for a while now and he can't wait for what it means in the future…even if they did treat it like another recess pretend game…it doesn't mean it's not real. (Right?)

Later/slight Future (6-7 years pass) ages (13-14):

Personality-

TJ: A little bit more openly sensitive. Tries to do the right thing all the time as Wordgirl and the Botsford definitely influenced that moral compass in him. Still ever insecure about himself, often fabricating certain things to seem more "cool". Downplays his fanboyish attitude for Wordgirl media as he knows now that Wordgirl is his sister and that not many kids his age particularly care about it.

Johnson: Still soft spoken but he's getting better about his shyness. Wants to be more open about how he truly is instead of

Early Teen dramatics:

- The boys are still best friends, however there are some changes…for one when they entered middle school they quietly and disappointedly dropped the boyfriends title, after all it was only a silly little game they played when they were young.

- Johnson is no longer part of the little leagues or is interested in joining their future highschool baseball team, Johnson tried to be interested in it for the sake of TJ, but he's found his real passion in theater, as he turns out to be a good actor. Plus he never got along with the rest of the boys in their baseball team anyway or "TJ's other friends". They always made fun of him.

- While sad that Johnson isn't into baseball anymore like he is, he still very much encourages Johnson's passion with the theater department.

- Because of Johnson's departure TJ hangs out a little bit more with the other kids at his baseball team…they are not a good influence, but TJ is blinded by their more rude behavior…after all they are a bunch of fourteen year olds. They appear to treat TJ like "one of the dudes" but they totally see him as chump and often make fun of his friendship with Johnson. TJ hears this ridicule and his insecurity on how he behaves around Johnson flares up.

- Even though they aren't "boyfriends" anymore they obviously have feelings for each other, more deeper from when they were young. TJ is aware of Johnson's feelings (Johnson doesn't try to hide it) but TJ is being a dummy insecure boy so he tries to pretend that his own feelings aren't there.

- Before their first highschool semester summer break at a baseball game Johnson pulls TJ aside to confess. Before TJ could even respond the other teammates and students attending hear this and make fun of both of them. Johnson doesn't care as long as TJ agrees that they're being jerks, (but TJ being the insecure crowd pleaser that he is) doesn't agree with Johnson, just saying that the fellas are only joking around and that he and Johnson "are not like that". This heavily offends Johnson. TJ is initially saying that he doesn't return his feelings or that TJ would rather preserve this fake image of himself. So Johnson leaves his eyes getting tinting red.

- TJ immediately knows he's fucked up again and when the other boys try insulting Johnson as he leaves, TJ immediately turns aggressive. A fight breaks out…. Just know that it ends with TJ being temporarily suspended from the team and earning a broken arm.

- after all that mess TJ desperately tries to make it up to Johnson, still not confessing his own feelings but trying to make sure that their friendship is still strong. Johnson though is not accepting those apologies. He's rightfully upset at TJ for once again choosing to be insecure and a follower.

- TJ talks with Becky about this dilemma, and he of course gets a mouthful from her, she's honestly surprised that they weren't dating. Making TJ feel awful as he should have made his true feelings for Johnson more clear and that he should stop caring about what others think about him.

- TJ also gets some out of nowhere advice from Tobey too, when TJ is coming into grips about his true self. Tobey, coming over to the Botsford house to see Becky, catches the young teen outside his backyard in the rain looking distraught. Tobey tells him how he's also struggling with issues of his identity and how to amend mistakes for the people they love. TJ appreciates this advice and thinks that Tobey is not so bad after all…

- It's officially summer and TJ is planning the most of it by having all this free time to make it up to Johnson, and also braven up to confess his feelings that were always there.

- Unfortunately for TJ, Johnson had signed up for a summer theater camp outside the city. In part so Johnson can better his acting, but to also avoid TJ.

- TJ is even more sad since now how would he ever make it up to Johnson if Johnson is away and purposely ignoring him. He vents this to his parents who of course try and cheer him up as they give TJ his first phone so he could possibly keep in contact with Johnson while he's away.

- Before Johnson officially gets on the trip to leave for camp, TJ chases after him to say sorry again, giving him his number if they ever want to talk about their entire situation in text. Johnson laments and tells TJ that he'll think about it, but of course saying how the years of playing pretend hurt him, that of course he'll still see TJ as a best friend if TJ doesn't return his feelings, but if TJ does have romantic feelings for him,,,that he can't be afraid and that they can't play pretend for that…Johnson wants it to be real because it felt real back then. TJ agrees, promising Johnson that he'll tell him all about it.

- they're on better terms now, but of course they're now apart during the summer…time for TJ to sulk and hope Johnson receives his first text message.

……

- during the summer they do indeed text each other. While Johnson can't be on his phone at all times since he's at camp he tries his best to talk with TJ during curfew. They exchange typical stuff, memes, encouraging words, how their days went. Then TJ gets all mushy, texting him heart emoticons and calling Johnson "Joshua or Joshie" (his first name) as a term of endearment. Johnson greatly appreciates this and also starts being mushy too.

- TJ is starting to be more open to who he is and letting out his emotions more clearly. Not only openly admitting that he likes Johnson but finally sitting down to talk to Becky about him knowing her secret identity, expressing how he low-key resented her for perfection as the golden kid.

- The boys dearly miss each other, TJ texting mountains of admiration words to Johnson as he doesn't fear showing off his feelings. Saying how it's just not the same without him here. Johnson admits the same, while he has met some chill friends at camp nothing could replace TJ's company.

- they just continue to text each other gay soft cringe stuff (/lhj) throughout the summer until Johnson can come back.

- When Johnson does come back TJ doesn't hesitate to meet him halfway, grabbing him to a spinning hug. They agree to grab ice cream together to talk more about their summer. It ends with them holding hands as they usually do but now it means something real.

Officially dating headcanons:

- When they officially begin dating shortly after Johnson returns from camp, TJ isn't bothered to be affectionate, keeping Johnson really flustered as it's uncharacteristic for TJ to be like that sometimes.

- nicknames:

For TJ: Handsome, king, captain.

For Johnson: Hon, sweetie, rubio, Joshie, Johnny, buddy.

- they're both the jealous one, just different ways they perceive their jealousy. TJ doesn't mind speaking out loud about it or being obvious while Johnson is more passive but stares intensely.

- Separation anxiety (yes)

- After all that drama that happened with the baseball team on insulting Johnson, TJ is much more defensive and will not hesitate to fight someone again if they talk bad about his boyfriend. (Johnson has always been TJ's secret bodyguard, his dad has taught him a thing or two in self defense so don't mess with Johnson's boyfriend either).

- TJ shows up to every play that Johnson's a part of and claps the most obnoxiously whenever he appears. This is the same with Johnson as he cheers the hardest in TJ's games whenever he gets on the field.

- so yep when Tj's arm is healed and returns to the baseball team there's definitely bad blood between them. Of course the other boys object to Tj's presence, but TJ is such a good player that the school doesn't want to risk losing a season if they don't have him on. This leads to TJ being very smug around them.

- Johnson and TJ actually have their own rivals…it's Victor Best, Chazz, and Royal dandy(?!) Turns out Victor has joined TJ's baseball team and plans to be captain, as Chazz and Royal Dandy threaten Johnson's position in theater.

- (Johnson: “ Wait a minute, I thought you died years ago?!”

Dandy: “.... Anything is possible ol cap cheerio!!”)

- They of course have a mutual good friend in Rex!! Even though he skipped a few grades up they still depend on him for support… and help on their math homework.

- While Johnson has grown to be taller, TJ is still the bulkiest, carrying Johnson around in ease.

- Often go on dates.

- are kinda trouble makers now too, being all anti authority in school.

- you see I mentioned before how I said that Johnson also lives in that more rural forest area of Fair City like Violet, well since his father often works he has previously been left with the heaslips, making Violet and Johnson develop a brother-sister dynamic. This has Violet and Becky embarrassingly gossiping about TJ and Johnson whenever they are openly around.

- If there was any danger to Fair City and the boys had to pick a weapon for defense, TJ would choose a baseball bat while Johnson the bow and arrow.

- Johnson is a low-key tobecky shipper…. making TJ suffer /lh

- Johnson's other interests come in farming and animals, while TJs are music (DJ over here) and video games.

- First "I love you" exchange happened when Johnson ordered TJ a pickle-less burger and gave him most of the fries. Truly TJ knew that Johnson was the one. /lh/pos

- Both are part of the Becky/WG defense squad.

- Tim and Sally absolutely adore Johnson and can't stop gushing about them whenever Johnson comes over, to TJ's embarrassment.

Glad you enjoyed the Mario movie. Unfortunately I can't say the same, as I just found it okay, with Jack Black as Bowser being the only thing I felt strongly about. The fact that people seem to be incapable of praising it without dunking on Sonic - in a way that reminds me of IDW fans shitting on the games - doesn't help, especially when I think it's just as guilty of some things people give the Sonic movies flack for. It's not bad, but it's yet another thing that I've gotten shit for...

XD That's pretty much similar to how I felt about the Sonic movies, so I can still sorta relate when there's tons of hype for these big movies and you feel like you just can't relate in the same way.

I've been making comparisons to the Sonic movies but I hope it's not just coming off as "the Sonic movies suck and that's why the Mario movie is good". It's just for the sake of being able to show an example of what I would've preferred for the Sonic movies to do but I was also sure to express why I actually like the Mario movie in itself on its own.

On the opposite side, my opinion of personally not liking the Sonic movies gets me in hot water too, so I've come to terms with more than ever lately that you just can't really win when it comes to opinions. They'll always be treated as illegal and disgraceful by at least some people, no matter what side of things you're on with the new hot topic.

Sucks but it's true so I'm trying not to let it bother me too much anymore. I hope you don't get pestered too much more for your own takes. You'll always have my respect for your right to have your own opinions no matter how different they are. Quite literally the best day of my life. I’ve always wanted to visit a Starset concert with a person I love, and it’s been on my bucket list ever since I was introduced to them by someone awesome. 2 other great bands preceded them, and they were both great! Among the best parts was, *spoiler*, Starset quite literally rickrolling us!

A huuuuge sheet blocked our view, with a projected logo and classic sci-fi woosh sounds, and then, BAM. Best intro ever. Skip to 2:30 (1:40 remaining) for when they lower the sheet, that sh*t was more hype than ANYTHING. They began with Carnivore, a great choice! Here’s the song list for this event: 1. Carnivore 2. That was the most hype thing EVER conceived - the way Dustin rose up and sang “Bring it to the ENNNNND” with him and the whole crowd (including me) rawring the lyrics, just. the. best.

I plan on posting a clip of each song, too! Lots to edit and crop and compress, but it’ll all be here!! I also have a great lore intermission clip (yes, I also filmed the funny intermission they had, with Dustin as the narrator!)

Alongside the amazing event was merch too, I got a signed poster from all 7 Starset members (they went from the original 4 to now, 7 great and talented people!), a tour shirt, 2 patches of Horizons and Divisions, and a ballcap! I’ll take photos of those after I post the clips.

I’m almost in tears writing this, because as someone who’s introverted, who has depression, ADHD and DID, I’ve only ever wanted to do such cool and fun things or “normal things” like this. I held myself back because I was messed up in the head. It’s never too late to do what you’ve always wanted to do, and to take charge of your life. Still to this day, I’m kicking myself for not getting my act together sooner. To actually do cool events and be with great people I vibe with. I’m glad I’m getting it together now.

Seeing as how you claim Stephen to be your favorite blorbo, I’m willing to bet you have a lot in common with him. Probably the oldest sibling. It’s hard for you to make relationships (platonic/familial… any relationships) but once you do, you’re incredibly loyal to them. Very protective of them. You stick to your morals and beliefs, so basically being stubborn. You probably went to college right after graduating high school, but instead of something science related you went with art. You’re detail oriented for sure, anyone can just glance over one of your fics and see how much research goes into it. You’ve said in your Wong fic that you’ve worked in customer service. As someone who also works in customer service, there’s a certain type of patience that kind of job requires. You’re on the west coast, I’m pretty sure.

You like photography. You’re interested in different cultures and like to travel a lot (possibly for your job?) You’ll try just about any food, especially in other countries. (I know from an ask post you tagged me in that you don’t like spicy food, though). Despite liking movies/shows, you’re not the type to watch something simply because there’s a lot of hype around it. Your preferences in whump suggest you’re the type to help people who genuinely need it, but will stop if they’re aren’t even attempting to take care of things themselves. This is me going out on a limb here, but I’m thinking that perhaps your parents aren’t that affectionate, either with each other or with you? That tends to be common in people who like angst and either heavily like/dislike romance.

Eldest sibling: Yes. Eldest of 4. We thankfully all get along wonderfully. Don't get to hang out much together because both of my brothers' jobs are very demanding/have holiday work at times - and of course I'm missing Easter this year xD

Relationships: Not really. Very close to my family, always have been. Have the best parents in the world. (Totally missed the mark on my parents haha, I tell folks in Discord pretty often that I'd lend my parents out as foster-parents were it possible). I have to *stop* my parents, especially my mum, from over-hyping me to people xD I can't have my mum read any of my works because she'd tell *everyone* about this wonderful story I wrote and I absolutely do not want the neighbors to know I write fanfic. And she legit can't help herself. As for my dad, he's spent the last 2 weekends with me helping me fix things around the house and helping me clean my garage of my neighbor's crap, and we can talk about almost anything (the only thing he refuses to talk about is anything regarding sex which is pretty hilarious because he gets all blustery if I casually mention something around it and he changes the subject). He's a great dad. Very lucky to have them both.

Friend-wise, it was harder in my youth for sure, but I have always been tenacious and managed. These days it's easy to create them on a superficial, acquaintance level - it's harder to be more in depth due to lack of energy or time. My greatest in depth friendships in my adulthood have all stemmed from online interactions because it can be hard to find nerds in the wild. I'm not a huge fan of superficial small talk that is prevalent with many adults "in the wild" (gossip about kids, neighbors, and the gym in my experience) so finding people that are just *interesting* to talk to is the big key. I know a lot of stuff about a lot of topics and finding conversation partners that have the same breadth is challenging. My coworkers are more interesting- but they're all over the US xD So yeah if everyone was just in the same area that'd make it so much easier.

Morals: I don't think sticking to your morality is a bad thing as the word stubborn implies 😜 flexible morality can lead bad places. I do stick to my guns though. Always up for a philosophical debate about moral conundrums but I call something out if I think it's just wrong - or I certainly try. I haven't been in a situation where doing so would put my life in danger so I'm not sure what I'd do there. I hope the right thing.

College: I'm an art major. Don't regret it.

Work: My customer service stint was blessedly only for a few months; they were trying to train me for the (slow) manager track and I noped out as soon as I could xD. Most of my work in HS and college was as a tutor, which was significantly more rewarding.

Area: Greater LA! Born and raised. 5th generation on my dad's mom's side too (Potato famine refugee), which is stupid rare here.

Travel: I wish I could travel for my job. But with working remote I may be able to make something out of it in a couple years. I think they may be up for it; it's a young company run by millennials which makes the difference. All the travel I've done in my 20s was through making connections with others in my youth and getting invited to stay places, and then teaching English abroad between jobs 5 years ago. And after that I finally started earning an actual decent income which meant I could save up for trips (like this!). That said I also had the support of my parents which helped make it possible (they didn't pay for the trips except one ticket in my early 20s, but I could fall back on them if I needed to which made a big difference).

Self care: Hit the nail on the head. I am the type of supporter to give links to resources in a person's area that is within their income (even in the US there's a lot of free resources, just takes a bit of digging). If someone decides not to help themselves to get out of the bad spot they're in by pursuing these resources, I withdraw. I can only be emotionally invested if people are actually trying - going to free counseling, going to work agencies, etc. No one that I know of here on tumblr is *not* helping themselves by pursuing resources to the best of their ability, so this applies to no one here. But I have had friends in the past that were unable to push past their mental barrier and I eventually ran out of emotional energy to give them. This likely comes from my mom who worked herself up from abject poverty, and my own struggles in my youth where there was a lot of struggle and pushing because my brain is a wee bit different. So I expect folks to try and make the calls and work through the problems. It's okay if it takes years - but you gotta try and keep pursuing and can't give up no matter how hard the going gets. (Note: this is presuming you're physically capable and have enough mental sound-of-mindness for executive decision making, which I do think is still like 99% of the population). I *strongly* recommend a support outlet if you don't have one - online or in person. There's a ton of communities on reddit for folks in tough situations that can help, to start. (Also note that it's very different on what you can do depending on where you are in the world, and that I'm very aware of.)

I find that a lot of people who like angst just like the genre due to finding characters overcoming their struggles very interesting. I don't think parental affection has anything to do with it personally, as I've met many people who adore romance who have absolutely awful parents. As for romance itself, I think my biggest issue is its oversaturation in media and how romance is emphasized to be more important than close platonic (found family) relationships. This happens in fanfic too and it's just annoying. I was significantly less annoyed with it in the LOTR fandom back in the day when they were even - so yeah, it's 100% about the saturation and lack of balance.

(Also romance is a legit boring genre outside of comedies, haha)

Hey SiC, I read your latest chapter a while ago, but I had to go somewhere. Even if its kinda late for me, i waited. It was worth it. Your latest chapter lives up to the hype.
