I've seen people calling Aiden Thomas a transmed author (mostly cause some transmeds like to claim his books), but if you followed Aiden Thomas on social media you'll see this not the case, also I think the reason why a lot of white transmeds resonate with his novels like Cemetery Boys and The Sunbearer Trials, has nothing to do with Aiden Thomas's writing and more to do with the fact that Aiden Thomas writes stories about LATINO trans men, and for a lot of white transmascs the message went way over their head.

In my own personal experience as a latino trans guy I relate much more to Aiden Thomas's work then to most other transmasc authors, because Aiden knows that it's a lot easier for us to internalize those toxic ideas of gender. Toxic masculinity is prevalent in latine culture it has it's own damm name "machismo". Therefore it's a lot harder for us to come to the realization that there's nothing wrong with our bodies and the problem stems from the way society views them. To add to that just as toxic masculinity is so over enforced in latine culture so is toxic feminity, so many of us feel the need to present very femininely before we finally decide to start presenting as ourselves. So once we actually come out and start presenting as male we try to compensate for that. On top of that growing up latine and afab means you and your body gets sexualized a lot more often. Mostly by the white supremacist stereotype of the curvy spicy Latina.

With all of that I can easily explain why when I read The Witch King, a novel about a white trans guy, when Wyatt said that he doesn't have a problem with his body and it was the way that people saw him as female, I personally couldn't relate.

But now going on the the actual content of Aiden Thomas's work (I will only be touching on Cemetery Boys because I haven't finished the Sunbearer Trials 😅).

Yadriel starts the novel with a lot of internalized transphobia which he's not even aware of. This is because at this point, he is the only queer person he knows, and he's surrounded by people who see him as different for who he is. It's not until he meets Julian, another queer person who has interacted with many other queer people. It's not until Yadriel starts talking to Julian and his friends that he starts realizing that everything he was taught about what it means to be a man is bullshit by the end of the book while I'm sure Yadriel hasn't 100% gotten over his internalized transphobia, he set on a path to unlearn it.

Aiden Thomas isn't a transmed author he just writes about the trans experience from a perspective that is often overlooked.

Closing off I would like to set the record cause as a latino trans author that's currently working on a novel about a latino trans boy mc. For any transmeds who wanna claim my work, it's not for you.

Ya empezaron a transmitir la segunda temporada de La Bruja de Mercurio

Algunos comentarios:

*Creo que me traumó demasiado ver a Sophie diciendo “Suletita” en los dos episodios en que apareció. Por un lado, me gusta que pongan ese tipo de modificaciones en las traducciones latinas, como que pegan más, pero por otro, también llegó a ser hasta cómico escuchar a Sophie diciendo cosas como “Voy a matar a todos tus amigos, Suletita”. Creo que en esta versión eso fue lo que terminó de cansar a Eri XD.

“¡Las únicas que le pueden decirle Suletita a mi hermana somos yo, mi mamá y tal vez, la cuñada!”

También cabe destacar que hicieron un cambio muy extraño en el diálogo de Sophie. En el original, Sophie expresaba que quería ser la hermana de Suletta, pero en español dicen que quiere ser “su mejor amiga”. Creo que esto modifica mucho al personaje de Sophie, ya que, como vimos en otras escenas, para ella era muy importante el tener una familia y creía que deseaba que Suletta fuera parte de ella (aunque luego descubrió que a quien quería era a Eri). También toda la plática sobre las hermanas servía como una pista de que Suletta en realidad no es hija única, así que no le veo caso que hubieran cambiado esos diálogos.

Todos los actores de doblaje son muy buenos, aunque me parece que Miorine suena demasiado adulta (creo que esto también pasa en el doblaje en inglés), me está saltando aún más en estos episodios porque en la versión original se veía muy claro el contraste de que aunque Mio hubiera empezado a vestirse de manera más adulta, seguía sonando como una jovencita y así quedaba claro que era una niña tratando de madurar muy rápido porque las circunstancias la orillaban a eso. Aunque bueno, la cuestión de cómo debe sonar un personaje ya es mi preferencia personal, en realidad.

Durante la escena en la que Elan está acosando a Suletta, en la tele pusieron un letrero que decía: “Continúa viendo este programa que es apto para todo público”. Me mató. Qué poco tacto de la televisora, la verdad.

Otra cosa curiosa es que durante la transmisión se propone un hashtag para que los espectadores vayan comentando la serie en redes sociales y a veces algunos de estos comentarios los ponen en pantalla. Como esta fue la primera vez que me puse a ver la serie en vivo, utilicé el hashtag para comentar y ver si algo pegaba. Terminaron poniendo mi comentario sobre que shippeaba a Suletta con Nika.

Ahora todo el país sabe que shippeo SuleNika.

Bueno…. ¿Pueden culparme?

Ahora, ¿debería escribir un fanfic con ellas? ¿Ustedes qué creen? (Por cierto, también shippeo MioNika y creo que con más entusiasmo por las posibilidades de angst que hay con ellas; curiosamente el SabiNika no me llama la atención).

Por último unos comentarios con spoilers:

A decir verdad, tenía miedo de volver a ver la segunda temporada porque recordaba que hubo cosas que no me gustaron tanto y temía que al volverla a ver, descubriera que me gustaba aún menos. En general los primeros dos capítulos están bastante bien y reflejan cómo la serie se va volviendo más oscura. El capítulo 15, en cambio, no me disgustó tanto como me temía. Creo que funciona bien por sí solo, pero si lo pones en contexto con lo que pasa después en la serie, se vuelve problemático. No me molesta que de pronto la serie se hubiera enfocado en otros personajes que ya no vamos a volver a ver, esto también ocurría en otras series de Gundam donde a veces teníamos historias autoconclusivas desde la perspectiva de un bando contrario, pero estas experiencias siempre contribuían al desarrollo de los personajes principales. Lo que me hace ruido es que, aunque la situación es muy interesante, Suletta (ya saben, la protagonista) nunca se involucra en esto y creo que habría estado interesante ver cómo podría reaccionar ante estas situaciones, sobre todo después de haber peleado contra Sophie.

Tampoco me gustó el hecho de que después de que se descubre la verdadera razón por la que se estableció el convertir a Miorine en un trofeo con el sistema de los duelos, no se hubiera ahondado más en eso. Se le hizo un daño gravísimo a Mio y nunca se discutió a fondo. Caray, si los escritores le iban a copiar la tarea a “Utena” poniendo estos elementos en su trama debieron tener la decencia de hacerlo bien y criticar un poco más el asunto, ¿no?

Jajaja, sueno como una hater con tanta queja, pero me sigue gustando mucho la serie. Es sólo que en esta parte es cuando se comienza a notar que hubo muchas buenas ideas que ya no exploraron más a fondo por falta de capítulos. En fin, seguiremos informando.
