The Role of Leave Management Software in Reducing Administrative Burden
Managing leave requests is a vital yet often time-consuming and complex job for HR teams. While some companies have embraced automation when it comes to leave management, others continue to rely on manual processes. This strategy might be manageable for smaller businesses, but as companies grow, the complexity of leave administration can increasingly grow. Leave management software can relieve this burden by making the process more efficient and less stressful.
This blog will explore how leave management software can simplify your leave processes, save valuable time, and reduce the administrative load on your HR team.
Streamlining Leave Requests
When processed manually, employees must submit leave requests through email or by filling out paper forms, which require manual tracking and approvals. With modern leave management software, employees can now submit their requests through a web portal or a mobile app. The system automatically alerts the assigned approvers of these requests for the next step, significantly reducing the risk of mistakes and the need for follow-ups and ensuring timely handling. Managers can also review and approve or reject these requests from any device, which speeds up the process and enhances overall efficiency.
Reducing Administrative Expenses
Managing employee leave can be challenging for larger organisations with many requests and paperwork. Leave management software significantly simplifies this process by efficiently handling tasks such as calculating leave accruals and tracking leave balances, reducing the need for manual effort. Additionally, the software integrates seamlessly with other HR software features, such as payroll, claims, and time tracking, ensuring that data is centralised and accurate across all systems. This integration minimises the risk of errors in payroll calculations, reduces the use of papers and enhances compliance at the end of the month.
Real-Time Tracking and Reporting
Traditionally, HR departments may face challenges in maintaining accurate leave records due to the sheer volume of documents, which can raise compliance issues and disputes. Leave management software addresses these challenges by providing real-time employee leave requests, balance updates and full reporting on leave utilisation. The software ensures that leave balances and usage information are always current and prevents issues such as under/overstaffing. Additionally, with advanced reporting tools, the software offers HR teams detailed insights into leave trends and usage patterns, such as peak times for leave during festive seasons like Deepavali or Chinese New Year, enabling strategic planning for the future.
Improving Employee Experience
Leave management software significantly improves the employee experience by making requesting and managing leave more straightforward. Employees can benefit from the intuitive interface, quickly submit leave requests, check leave balances, and track their leave status in real-time. This self-service feature gives employees more control and reduces the need for frequent check-ins with the HR team. It minimises manual errors and boosts transparency, creating a smoother and hassle-free experience for everyone.
Enhancing Compliance
If your HR department mishandles leave management, it can lead to serious legal repercussions and hefty fines. Leave management software helps you avoid these issues by ensuring that leave policies are consistently applied and updated with the latest regulations. For example, it keeps track of changes in entitlements like maternity and paternity leave. By keeping HR departments well-informed and proactive, the software helps prevent compliance issues and lowers the risk of legal trouble.
Conclusion
Leave management software substantially reduces the administrative burden associated with managing employee leave. By automating routine tasks, providing real-time tracking, and ensuring regulatory compliance, it alleviates the strain on HR departments and enhances employee satisfaction. Investing in this software is an excellent strategy to streamline operations and reduce administrative workload. It is an integral tool for HR departments seeking to manage employee leave efficiently and effectively.

Game Fuckery Help and Linux List [Update].
Tumblr media
I'm avoiding re-installing this shit again, so in the meantime I'm sorting some stuff into lists. For Linux research purposes.
Edit: Standby Memory Allocation on Windows 10: New info coming in: That's not the issue. However, what i wrote below about TM is my own experience and has worked for me (without doing what Jessa was saying in the SB memory part, I remembered, hope I didn't waste anybody's time). Does it make sense? idk, but it's harmless, and if it's actually a thing and not just a freak coincidence, and can help anybody else then why not. I do remember trying it with and without cleaning cache :/ [for fuck sake the nerve on EA to put out for sale a new edition without improving it to 64bit]. As discussed by Jessa below, it's an OS problem. What worked for me, for some bizarre reason was to keep Task Manager on before and while playing the game. without it my game was crashing often, on my main non gaming computer. What solved it was fixing windows... for anyone's interested, the gory details are at the bottom of the post under the cut.
+ That combined with clearing cache often.
Jessa's video (Memory Allocation and 4GB Patch Repair). Edit: Turns out this video was pulled back, so basically just make sure the patch is applied?

That's it for now. Any more information or good links will be welcome.
Task Manager thing briefly, for the curious (as if it interests anyone else but me, but in the interest of keeping track).
So the game was crashing often. That thing was easy to spot because the laptop would make loud airplane noises when I'd load the game. It got stuck or something, so I went to end it by force with task manager and noticed that all the resources where used to the max - right up until I'd open TM, and then everything would cool down. Like it was playing hide and seek with me. So I figured I'd get smart with it right back, and just leave TM open the whole time. Low and behold, the game stopped crashing. That combined with clearing cache often. Does it make sense? idk, but the computer works in mysterious ways.

Who’s this foxy I see on your blog? 🫶🏻
OOOO IM GLAD YOU ASKED HEHE!!! 🧡🧡🧡
OC Ramble Mode Engage!:
Cathy Burke, aka Flying-Fox, nicknamed Foxy for short is an OC that I have created along with a bunch of other OCs and are a part a whole Arkhamverse Au Story called Arkham Survivor.
Tumblr media
She is a 25 year old, Irish-American that was born and raised in Gotham (grew up in the rough parts of Founders island) and was left homeless on the streets for 2 years (throughout the events of Asylum and City). Batman retired immediately after Joker's death, leaving Gotham to fend for itself. By sheer dumb luck, she managed to stumble upon him and train to Gothams new protector.
Without her mask, Cathy is a lot more socially awkward and shy around people and usually keeps to herself whenever she can and always tries to keep a brave face- even if the situations is not working in her favour. But when the mask is on and she becomes The Flying-Fox, she gains more confidence and is able to express herself more comfortably. Being more outgoing and charming to others- taking the term "Masking" to a whole new level. Which is why people never put 2 and 2 together- because "Cathy could never be that confident and bold to become a hero." lol
Foxy is a dorky rock chick who uses charm and jokes to try to deescalate a serious situation and make it more light-hearted or to throw off an opponent in that heat of battle. She's a pacifist to an extent, using violence as a last resort and will always try and talk it out (but that rarely happens in Gotham), but if she has no choice but to fight, she'll try to make the injuries that are least damaging and only fights to immobilise them. There are rare instances where she would "Pull a Batman" and decimate someone, but those are under some very extreme circumstances (like dealing with Zsasz for example). She has the patience of a saint, but patience does have its limits.
She's a bleeding heart and always tries to see the good in people and is an avid believer in rehabilitating most of the Rogues. She treats them like people, even if others don't. But there are times when she has to recognise that some people can never be helped. Most would consider her näive for having any hope for the super criminals, which at times she would be- but in Foxy words- "I would rather die kind, than be cruel."
Height: 5'8
Gender: She/Her
Eye colour: blue
Hair colour: Brown
Sexuality: Pansexual
Ethnicity: Irish-American (Irish heritage from her dads side)
Siblings: Older Brother and Sister (10 years older and cut contact with family)
Occupations: (Day) Head engineer at Wayne Tower, (Night) Masked vigilante.
Has ASD (undiagnosed)
Quirks/Hobbies/Skills:
High IQ/ Photographic memory.
Specialised in Krav Maga, Kung Fu, Jui Jitsu and Caproeria fighting styles, and high levels of flexibility.
Proficient in parkour and rock climbing.
High pain tolerance.
She can play the electric guitar as if it were her first language.
Is a zombie movie fanatic.
Capable of engineering new gadgets and software from scratch (both as a pass time and as her day job at Wayne Tower.)
Fluent in ASL. And able to understand some other common languages (she's still learning.)
Plays video games in her spare time lol.
Originally, what I had planned for Foxy was to only interact with Riddler so she could be his counterbalance and also have her interact with a handful of other rogues in silly shenanigans. But then I fell in too deep, and now I am developing this massive Au, with a lot more characters and lore full of love, heartbreak, pain, suffering, and horrors beyond human compression. And ooooooh boy- the stuff that I have planned is nothing short than scuffed >;]
Tumblr media
Sorry that I went on this whole rambling session about Foxy. She is one of my most cherished OCs whom I love dearly, and I really like talking about her and the stuff she does hehe <3
I hope I didn't overwhelm ya with it ;<;

It was one of O’Rourke’s first times doing drugs, but he didn’t hold back. Armed with cannabis edibles, cocaine, ketamine, and booze, he partied for nearly 12 nights consecutively last August, during which time he claims to have raved for 60 hours—all without ever leaving his apartment. (He did take bathroom breaks and managed to eat a steak.) In the past 18 months, the 38-year-old IT worker from Dublin, who did not want his first name used due to privacy reasons, has partied on virtual reality platform VRChat every weekend, often staying up until 8 am, suited up in goggles and a full set of motion trackers.
“There’s a lot of weird shit going on, and it can be hard to adjust, but if you do it's magical,” he tells WIRED. “If you're not able to self-moderate and police yourself, it’s endless. You're not going to win; you're not going to see the end of the party.” O’Rourke is one of many who may struggle with the fantastical, escapist allure of having access to a nearly nonstop, wild metaverse party from the comfort of their own homes. Especially when he normally doesn’t have plans with friends in the real world.
Before Covid-19 lockdowns, there had barely ever been more than 20,000 concurrent users on VRChat—but its popularity has since exploded. More than 130,000 people locked into VRChat on New Year’s Day this year, according to a VR culture blog, and there are dozens of weekly VR parties thanks to organizers across the US, Europe, and Asia. Once inside the VRChat metaverse, users—who describe it to WIRED as an immersive, futuristic utopia—can choose which “maps,” or parties, they wish to explore in the form of their avatars.
Meanwhile, traditional clubs in the US and the UK are closing at an alarming rate—casualties of rising costs, lower profits, and, in places, onerous regulations around noise levels, security requirements, and closing times. The infinite amount of space available on VR, plus the lack of regulation, allows creators to blissfully ignore the economic pressures that limit nightlife in many places today. VR venues don’t charge for entry, so the main cost is hardware, which can exceed $5,000 with a high-quality gaming PC and full-body tracking devices, although a simpler setup with just a Meta Quest headset can be procured for as little as $350. There are, however, often long lines to get into the most popular virtual club nights, since they are all capped to 80 people each due to the limits of the software on the VRChat platform, which is available through host Steam.
WIRED spoke to 12 people who are engrossed in the scene, from trans people who feel safer partying in VR to introverts and seniors who find it more welcoming. It’s even spawning underground VR sex and drug subcultures, with erotic club nights and venues meant to mimic the effect of psychedelics. O’Rourke and other enthusiasts say they’ve clocked up drug-fueled, marathon dance sessions all without many of the stressors of traditional club nights.
O’Rourke, an introvert who is self-conscious about his 5-foot-4 height, co-runs a party called Euro-Corp, which resembles a traditional club space, with a narrow, wooden-looking dance floor and a DJ booth overlooking it all. He says he is putting in so many hours—almost 1,800 at the time of writing—because he feels now is the “high-water-mark moment” for the scene. “When people look back in 10 or 20 years, they’ll say now was its peak. That’s why I’m partying so hard.”
But he admits he overdoes it sometimes. “I accidentally did a heroic dose [of mushrooms], and it was a bit of a mess,” he says of a March 2024 trip during which he could not distinguish between his hallucinations and the VR world. “I haven’t taken shrooms since because it was a bit heavy.” Since then, he has decided that ketamine “synergizes most with VR,” because it enhances the levels of immersion to render the virtual reality more real.
Others, like Heelix, a 61-year-old VR DJ from Berlin who has spent nearly 5,000 hours in VR—the equivalent of about 200 days—struggle to control their drinking. “I think it's a little bit dangerous,” he says. “I’ve seen people going overboard, and [their avatars] suddenly disappearing.” Another VR party promoter says, “Because of the headset, you don’t realize how drunk you are till you take it off.” One partier says he has had friends who have needed their stomachs to be pumped after marathon drinking sessions on VRChat.
But socially awkward individuals, homebodies, and LGBT people tell WIRED that VR raves are secure and surreal spaces where, through their avatars, folks can metamorphose into whatever form they wish.
Ru, a trans woman from rural Ohio who works as a hospice nurse, says VRChat provides her a safer environment than she might find in real life. “I get sexually assaulted far less often,” says Ru, 48, who didn’t want to use her real name for professional reasons. “I'm a trans woman, and I live in the middle of a red state. Sometimes you don't want to go to that local place and deal with all of that shit.” Plus, she says that the music that DJs on VRChat play is just better than at the clubs in Ohio she has been to. “The music is unbelievable,” she says. “Go listen to your local people, and then come to any random club in VR; you're going to be shocked that your local DJs suck ass.” Ru’s virtual club, Kaleidosky, looks like the inside of a shape-shifting kaleidoscope, bending the laws of physics with all the fractal visions of a DMT trip. Her VR success as a DJ has even led her to play physical shows in Japan, although she was not the headliner. “My life has been expanded in ways that I can hardly relate to you,” she says, “all because of VR and how it brings all these different, immensely creative people together.”
Luna, a VR raver from the Netherlands, was suffering from poor mental health, unemployed, and socially alienated when she first went on VRChat at the age of 19 in 2022. “I was really depressed,” she recalls. “I didn't have work. I didn't have real friends. I was stuck at home.” But, like many before her, discovering raving changed everything. “It was like a way to experience new things, new worlds,” she says. “I loved it instantly.” She has partied so hard from her living room that her neighbors have complained. “I can dance quite wildly.”
Just like she would in the physical world, Luna developed an entire group of friends from VR rave encounters. They now pre-drink together before heading out at the weekends in VR, and sometimes they even take MDMA as a group, from their individual silos. Her first trip came in her first few months VR raving, when a friend of hers in Australia said she was going to take the euphoria-inducing drug, and fellow raver Benji, who also lives in the Netherlands, offered to mail a dose of a legal version of MDMA to Luna’s house. Later, at an in-person rave organized by a VR club, she connected with Benji; they’ve now been a couple for two and a half years, and he goes on VR far less.
But others get hooked on the platform’s rave scene, even though the experience cannot fully replicate the neurochemical correlates of a real rave, says Maria Balaet, a research associate in the department of neuroimaging studies at Imperial College London. Prolonged drug use in VR could also amplify sensory overload and cognitive fatigue, raising the risk of dissociation and having a bad trip, she warns. “Having a bad trip in VR is probably worse than a bad trip outside of VR, because once one comes out of the VR environment their body and mind needs to readjust to the world too, and that is taxing in addition to the bad trip itself.” She adds that drug use in VR could bring about a “false outward experience,” in which an individual has an inner experience in an artificially designed context. “I am not sure how long one can stay in this state without feeling disconnected or disoriented,” Balaet cautions.
Some VR ravers say they've found real-life partners and friends through virtual partying. Photograph: @ayase_
Benji and Luna first connected romantically in person, but sometimes one thing can lead to another on VRChat—with or without drugs. Through the use of VR rooms and custom avatars with adult capabilities, clothing can be removed and certain “gestures” can be performed to simulate sex. The explicit phenomenon, tucked away in private metaverse spaces, has spawned whole categories of pornographic videos on adult websites, where VR users record themselves having sex. “When people engage in ERP [erotic role-play], they typically pick out an avatar to dress the part,” according to an explainer video on how people “do it” in VRChat. “There’s special physics for body parts that can be added to avatars, as well as ‘collision,’ so that other users can interact with them.” This is against VRChat’s terms of service that prohibit creating pornographic content, and these sorts of avatars should be swiftly banned if they are active in a public world.
Heelix’s avatar is a young female anime character, and he describes how loneliness led him to find solace in VR, where he plays shows as a DJ. “All of my friends are old, and they don’t go clubbing anymore,” he says. On the occasions he has gone out by himself he has felt conscious of his greying hair and growing belly. “But here in VR I know a lot of people,” he says. “It's much easier.” Plus, “the way home is very short,” and en route he can even stop by places like one of VRChat’s sex-positive clubs, PSHQ—originally known as Pussy Squad Headquarters—where as many as 20 lap dancers can be tipped during exotic dance nights, and attendees can slope off to a motel area for what the club describes as “NSFW activities.”
Some erotic dancers, like Lichbait, have even developed popular online personas and are profiting from subscriptions, like a VR OnlyFans. PSHQ, according to its creator DeityAnubis, who did not want to be named for privacy reasons, is “a sexually positive adult space with a focus on music. The music, the dancing, the lighting, the atmosphere, the sense of community, the LGBTQ safe space, those are the important parts of PSHQ and make us what we are.”
In January, VRChat introduced age verification on the platform to ensure children were not accessing certain adult spaces, after a BBC investigation found children were able to enter VR strip clubs and could be cajoled into performing virtual sex acts. Zeus Tipado, a PhD candidate researching neuroscience at the University of Maastricht, describes VR as a mammoth social experiment, but it's one that he has increasing concerns about. Some frequent users get progressively less interested in base reality, to a far greater extent than traditional gamers, he warns. The site’s anonymity also provides cover for racist or bigoted behavior.
During one of his forays into VRChat, Tipado says, he was part of a group invited into a man’s apartment. “It was a vibey apartment,” Tipado recalls. “Everyone was watching Power Rangers. I found a nice place to sit down on the sofa, and then this guy comes up in front of everybody and tells people to take off their clothes.” Nobody took off their virtual clothes, and they were soon kicked out of his apartment for failing to comply with the request.
User safety is a top priority, a VRChat spokesperson tells WIRED, and the platform has provided users with a number of tools to protect themselves, such as making it easy to block and report others. “When our trust and safety team receives a report, they have the ability to use metadata and logs to track down and ban problematic users,” they said.
While many might assume that all VR users are on a quest to escape reality, sometimes the parties act as a gateway to live events.
Promoter James Campbell, who runs the popular Shelter map, has held events in New York, San Diego, and Los Angeles playing dubstep, bass, and other electronic music genres to bring VR ravers together.
At Shelter’s first party, in New York, attended by more than 250 people in May 2022 at the now-closed VRWorld in Midtown Manhattan, he says countless people came up to him and said it was their first ever actual rave, telling him: “I didn’t think I’d ever have the confidence to come to a show.”

Surveying Spain: Working with Spanish Civil War Posters at NYU Libraries
Tumblr media
Hi, my name is Mia Lindenburg. I am a graduate student undergoing NYU’s Dual Degree program, where I will get an MA in literature and an MLIS. This semester, I have been working with NYU’s Barbara Goldsmith Preservation & Conservation Department, mentored by Lindsey Tyne (Conservation Librarian), Laura McCann (Director of Preservation), Weatherly Stephan (Head of Archival Collections Management), and Felix Esquivel (Collections Manager, Special Collections), to survey the Spanish Civil War Poster Collection (ALBA.GRAPHICS.001). This internship has helped me to prepare for a future career in special collections libraries, where I will be required to work with delicate material similar to what I see in this collection. I am very thankful for this opportunity and how it has allowed me to delve deeper into archival work with a hands-on approach.
In addition to working with the Preservation department, I have been lucky enough to work with the Archival Collections Management (ACM) and Special Collections departments, allowing me to see the different perspectives of handling a large and often complicated collection. This blog post will demonstrate the different ways in which these departments added to my learning experience and show some of the special facets of working with this collection in particular.
BUILDING THE DATABASE
Before I began surveying this collection, I had to create an infrastructure that would allow me to compile the data I would be collecting. I used the software AirTable to build this database. First, I had to move the data that had already been collected into my table. This came from Archives Space (AS), an archives information management software used by NYU Libraries. This had much of the preliminary data I would need to fact-check against in the survey, such as poster locations. After I had brought the AS data into the table, I created fields that would duplicate the AS fields but with the descriptor (survey) to show any differences. Additionally, I made new fields for things we might want to consider, such as condition and size.
UNIQUE POSTER FORMATS
“I tu? Que fas per la victoria?”
Tumblr media
ALBA-ES 46, copy 4 “i tu?” (Photo by: M. Lindenburg)
The first set of posters that I want to discuss is ALBA-ES 45 and 46, also known as the two sides of “I tu? Que fas per la victoria?” a Catalan poster depicting a bloody soldier advocating for his audience to participate in the war, to support the cause. This collection has many copies, encapsulated (meaning this poster is inside a protective mylar sleeve) and unencapsulated, of this poster. The copies pictured below interest me because they were particularly delicate. You can tell from the photos that they were split into pieces, making flipping the posters to inspect the back difficult. These will need a lot of conservation work, although they may not be an immediate priority since so many copies are in fine condition.

“Allisteu-vos a les milicies antifeixistes”
The poster “Allisteu-vos a les milicies antifeixistes,” belongs to a series of posters collected at The Franklin Institute in Philadelphia as part of a circulating exhibit.
Tumblr media
ALBA-ES 116, recto, “Allisteu-vos a les milicies antifeixistes” (Photo by: M. Lindenburg)
These interest me because of how they were mounted for the exhibition. Rather than encapsulating the posters or leaving them untouched, this exhibitor chose to attach muslin across the back and use cardboard and grommets to hang them.

Annual Xmas Eve Ball
Poster ALBA-US-15, uses a mounting technique commonly used with posters associated with the Veterans of the Abraham Lincoln Brigade (VALB).
Tumblr media Tumblr media
ALBA-US-15 (Photo by: M. Lindenburg)
It is mounted on a paperboard, which makes it somewhat heavy and unwieldy when grouped in folders. Take note of the headline of Zero Mostel, which shows the support the VALB received, even from celebrities.
THE INSCRIBED NAMES & WHO THEY WERE
Archie Brown is a signature I’ve encountered a lot in this collection.
Tumblr media
ALBA-ES-8 (Photo by: M. Lindenburg)
Brown was born in 1911 in Sioux City, Iowa. He was brought into the world of labor activism at an early age. 1934, he was arrested at a Young Communist League (YCL) event in San Pedro. But he continued with his activism despite this. In 1937, Brown got tuned into the struggles in Spain, particularly after his brother was recruited to the International Brigade. In San Francisco, Brown was denied a passport because of his radical reputation. So, he went to New York City and stowed away on a ship to France, where he would travel to Spain. He joined the forces of the Abraham Lincoln Brigade and, even after the war, continued to fight as a soldier and an activist.
Tumblr media

Harry Hakam is an interesting character, partially because of his frequent correspondence with other members of the Abraham Lincoln Brigade.
Tumblr media
ALBA-ES-77 (Photo by: M. Lindenburg)
Hakam was born in Brooklyn in 1913. In February 1937, he sailed to France, arriving in Spain in March of the same year. He served primarily as a battalion runner, returning to the US in 1938. However, it’s his correspondence that makes him shine. His collection marker (Hakam) is found on many posters that share others’ names, meaning he likely sent these posters back and forth between fellow members.
Tumblr media

We don’t have as much information on Al Erdberg, but we do know from the Harry Hakam Papers (ALBA.046) and the fact that Erdberg shows up in the Hakam posters that they had correspondence. Erdberg was likely part of the Abraham Lincoln Brigade or a state-side supporter. This would be an interesting figure to research further.

REHOUSING
A big problem I encountered when surveying these posters was with the housing rather than the posters themselves. Often, I encountered groups of ten or more posters in a folder, making the folder heavy and difficult to move. Further, if these posters are in mylar encapsulation, they become even heavier. To remedy this, the posters need to be rehoused into sturdier folders. I began some of this work with Laura McCann this semester, and the rehousing of the posters will continue through the summer.
VELCRO STICKERS
Some of the posters I found had velcro stickers left on the mylar encapsulation. These are likely from previous exhibition techniques, where the posters were attached to a wall using velcro. However, this technique is now deemed problematic, so Lindsey Tyne and I used a process to remove these stickers. We used a hot iron to heat small metal spatulas, which we then used to melt the adhesive of the sticker and lift the velcro off. This is a delicate process, but we got into a rhythm and moved fairly quickly.
Tumblr media

This collection has taught me many things. I have learned to be patient, think carefully, and always be on the lookout for new observations, among many other smaller skills. If I were asked to advise someone starting a similar project, I encourage them to take note of their natural rhythm so that they can figure out which order of surveying works best for them to maximize efficiency. I would also tell them not to be afraid of asking questions, even if it’s clarifying something they think you already know. This has been an incredible experience, and I feel so lucky to have been a part of this collection. Thank you for taking the time to read my post!

Music of the Heart [J.YH] - forty-six | do you know how to do cubes?
“So where have you gotten most of your information?” Hongjoong asked after copying your music file over to the studio computer.
“Umm… I bought a couple music writing books that friends on the internet have recommended to me… and then videos I found on youtube and blog posts and stuff.”
He nodded. You didn’t know what to do so you nodded back. He clapped his hands together.
“Okay. So on first listen I can tell you a few things:” he ticked the points off on his fingers, “you have the structure of a song, you have a melody and a harmony, and you have a pretty nice chord progression.”
“And what’s the bad news?”
“Your drum sequences are a little weird.”
“I was having some trouble with the program I have. I also-- uh--”
He looked at you.
“I didn’t want to pay for the premium version because I didn’t have a lot of money when I started this song, so I didn’t have all the features.” You rolled your eyes.
He nodded. “Okay. So that’s a thing I can definitely help with. I’ll call IT right now and ask someone to come over and set up the program for you-- do you have a laptop you?”
“Umm… I do but it’s kind of hooked up to a bunch of stuff at home…”
“We can give you a work computer.”
“Really?”
“Of course, why would Wonderland let their producers run around without the ability to produce? I think they might still have an unused desktop sitting around, so they might be able to bring it in a couple days. You can use that for a while and they’ll order a new one. I’ll call right now.”
Hongjoong picked up the desk phone and dialed the number for IT and spoke to whoever answered.
“As long as JUPiTER doesn’t fuck up their wifi again.” Maddox added from where he was sprawled out on the couch, facing in the other direction.
You snorted. “Do they do that often?”
“Enough that management started sending our IT guys to their dorm to fix it because they felt bad for this one time when it put the internet out for the whole building.”
“Oh my god.”
“Yeah, I have no idea what it is they do.”
You nodded, not that he could see you, and paused for a second. “Porn or illegal movies.”
Maddox wheezed a laugh before giggling to himself.
You laughed, satisfied by his reaction.
“Hey, do you know how to do cubes?”
“...Is that a like drug?”
Maddox held what was in his hands over his head for you to see: a rubix cube that was part way done.
“Oh. No, I don’t know how to do cubes.”
He hummed, annoyed at it, turned it a few more times before giving up and rolling it across the floor. He sighed and draped his arm over his face.
“Okay,” Hongjoong said after hanging up the phone, “They can bring a new computer tomorrow and set it up in here. I also asked them to get you on the licenses of the programs we normally use, and before you leave today, one of them will come over with the usb with the programs and the instructions on how to set it up on your computer at home.”
“Ooh, nice.”
He nodded. “It’ll have the production softwares, the samples we use, the drum machines, all that fun stuff. And I’ll start training you on them here, but you’ll have them at home so you can work on your original stuff whenever you want.”
“That’s awesome. I’m excited.”
“So, if it’s okay, I think we’ll hold off on your song until you have your own computer.”
You nodded. “Okay.”
“I also had another question for you,” Hongjoong said as he turned his chair towards you and crossed his arms. “It’s a pretty big one though.”
Your eyes widened. “What is it?”
“I let our CEO listen to a few of your mashups, the ones with groups from our company.”
“Oh god! Are you serious? What’d he say?”
“He liked them.” He smiled.
“Okay, okay, that’s good. Okay.”
Hongjoong chuckled at your reaction. You had never even met the CEO before, how could you have known that he would like the mashups you made with his groups. But that was good, he liked them. Good.
“He wants you to work with us come award show time.”
You stared at Hongjoong blankly for almost a solid minute - the sound of it bluescreening almost audible to your coworkers - before your brain restarted. “What?”
Hongjoong laughed. “I could see the buffering animation over your head for a second there.”
“Isn’t-- isn’t that too fast? I only started working here like… a couple months ago? I haven’t been here-- half a year yet!”
He nodded and moved to speak.
“Shouldn’t only the senior producers be working on award shows?”
He held his hands up to stop you. “What kinds of songs are normally used for award shows?”
“What? The… good ones? I’m confused.”
“Songs that try to put as much of an artist’s catalog from the past year into one performance so people can see it, right? You know, taking a bunch of songs and, I don’t know: mixing them together? Mashing them up?”
“Oh… yeah I guess they are.”
“He really liked your sense of music and said you’d be great for the year-end performances.”
“...Holy shit.” You covered your open mouth with your hands.
“You can give it some thought if you want. I know it’s a little fast, but you have a lot of time before we start getting ready for them anyway.”
You pulled your hands away. “I… I mean I don’t even know how to produce yet. All I know is how to chop up songs and audio files and fudge the rest so people can’t really tell that I haven’t separated the layers to use them properly.”
Hongjoong chuckled. “You did a good job of fooling me.”
“Really?”
“Well, on most of your mashups. I have a more trained ear than the average listener, so I was able to pick out a few moments where it was apparent. Not apparent enough for a casual music fan though.”
“Oh. No one’s ever said anything so I guess you’re right.”
“For someone who, as you say, has been using an inferior method to make mashups, you’ve been doing an amazing job.”
You nodded slowly.
“You have plenty of time to learn the programs before then. I think that learning to use professional tools will just make your work better.”
You nodded. “Umm… So I had like, kind of a silly question.”
“No such thing. Go ahead.”
You nodded again. “The other producers all have names like… Viper, and NekoChan, and LuCee, and… like they have their own names and identities, right?”
“Mhm.”
“Could I… maybe use my name from my channel?”
“Nero Music?”
“I was thinking of just ‘NERO’, maybe? All caps.”
He thought about it for a second. “I like it. It’s interesting though… where’d you get the name from? The Roman Emperor?”
You shook your head. “The Turbo song?”
Hongjoong laughed and you heard Maddox chuckle from the couch.
“Cute.” Hongjoong nodded. “Yeah, I don’t see a problem in using it. It is who you are, after all.”
“Wonderland won’t get mad?”
“No, established producers are always a good thing. It means whatever fans you have come to the company.”
“Well… I’m not really a producer--”
“Not yet. And stop saying things like that. This is the last time. I’m training you, that means you’re a producer now.”
“I’ve heard that if you look at your mirror at 3am and whisper ‘I cannot dream big’ three times, a ghost named Kim Hongjoong will appear and slap you ten times.*” Maddox said, arm still over his face.
Hongjoong kicked the side of the couch and Maddox laughed.
“I saw someone say that on Twitter after JUPiTER posted a vlog with you in it.” ***ateezmylifeu
You laughed quietly.
“Well, they’re not wrong. But someone has to make sure all of you have dreams big enough that reaching them is worthwhile. If you don't want to bear the crown, don’t try to wear it.”
Those words seemed familiar to you, you weren’t sure why. You thought for a moment, and when you realized what it was it had reminded you of, your eyes widened and you reflexively stood.
“...Your solo work is Hearts Awakened Live Alive? You’re HALA?!”

What is Amazon Affiliate Marketing? Why Choose Affiliate Marketing?
Tumblr media
What is Amazon Affiliate Marketing?
Amazon Affiliate Marketing, also known as the Amazon Associates Program, is a popular way for individuals and businesses to earn commissions by promoting products from Amazon.com. Affiliates generate revenue by placing unique affiliate links on their websites, blogs, or social media. When someone clicks on these links and makes a purchase, the affiliate earns a commission on the sale.
Why Choose Affiliate Marketing?
Affiliate marketing is an attractive online income stream for several reasons:
1. Low Investment, High Earning Potential
Unlike traditional businesses, affiliate marketing requires minimal startup costs. You don’t need to buy or stock products—just promote existing ones.
2. Passive Income Opportunity
Once you set up your website or content, you can earn commissions passively as people purchase through your links, even while you sleep.
3. Flexibility & Freedom
Affiliate marketing allows you to work anytime, anywhere. You can build an income stream without being tied to a specific location or strict work hours.
4. No Customer Support or Inventory Management
Since you are promoting other companies' products, they handle inventory, shipping, and customer service—leaving you free to focus on marketing.
5. Wide Range of Products & Niches
You can promote products in various niches, from tech gadgets and fashion to fitness equipment and software. This flexibility lets you choose a niche that aligns with your interests.
6. Trusted Brands Boost Conversions
When promoting Amazon products, customers trust the Amazon brand, making them more likely to buy—resulting in higher conversion rates for affiliates.
Conclusion
Amazon Affiliate Marketing is an excellent way to monetize your content and earn passive income. Whether you're a blogger, YouTuber, or social media influencer, affiliate marketing provides a scalable, low-risk way to generate revenue while promoting products you genuinely believe in.

Week 12 - Blog
1: How has masculinity or the ideology that gaming are meant for men become a norm in the gaming community?
I personally don't game not because I think gaming are meant for guys, but because I have never really find an interest for gaming. However, I know that my brother does game and so does my male friends and my sisters. While I disagree that gaming are a masculinity subject, I believe it has become such a norm to think that way since gaming is a kind of sport, and sport was dominated my males in the earlier years. Because the idea of women in sport was a major debate, many female gamers in today society often face discrimination, exclusion, and look-down upon. This relate to the Gamergate Movement because it was a movement that targeted feminism, diversity, and progressivism through doxxing, harassment, and threats.
2: In which way does the Gamergate Movement negatively impact the future of gaming softwares and applications?
Since the world of technology and computer engineering are still pretty much male dominated, many of these games lack feedbacks from female developers, which potentially lead to inaccurate representations of female characters in game applications. The Gamergate Movement contributed to this implication and impact it negatively by utilizing online platforms as a mean to spread messages to its target, as well as the use of doxxing, harassment, threats. This toxic behavior reinforces the gap between genders and gender equality in the gaming community. Thus, steering away potential game developers, and influential figures.
3: After watching Surveilled, a documentary by Ronan Farrow, is privacy possible to maintain?
When I think of the online community, I think of it as a safe haven for me connect with my family, friends, and share about my personal life or achievements with those around me. However, after watching Surveilled by Ronan Farrow, I start to question if everything I thought was safe to share, really safe? As mentioned in the film, many of what we share online are now a public property, and it can be sell to various companies or even government for personal objectives. Because the cloud is such a vast canvas, it is impossible to maintain privacy since spyware devices often perform outside of our knowledge and leave little to no trace behind.
4: What can people do to protect themselves from being hacked and minimize the availability of personal data in the online database?
Some safety measurements people should take into consideration is to reject unnecessary cookies from websites that they do not visit often, such as one-time-purchase shopping site, blog sites, and random social media links. It is also safer to not use password manager as it contains numerous personal information from username, password, social security number, address, and credit card numbers. Finally, this is something unrelated but after watching Surveilled, I learned that you can wrap your technology device in aluminum foils to prevent the hacker from communicating with or control your device. This method is known as the Faraday Cage method, and it is often used to block wireless signals, prevent remote access, tracking, or wiping of a device.

Top ERP Software Trends in 2024 – What to Expect
The Enterprise Resource Planning (ERP) software market is evolving at an unprecedented pace, driven by advancements in technology and the growing needs of businesses across industries.  In 2024, ERP software will continue to serve as a backbone for businesses, streamlining operations, enhancing productivity, and enabling informed decision-making.  As we move further into the digital age, several trends are emerging that will reshape the ERP landscape.  This blog will explore the top ERP software trends to watch in 2024, with a focus on the importance of ERP systems for engineering companies, particularly in India, where the demand for industry-specific solutions is rapidly growing.
Tumblr media
1.   AI and Machine Learning Integration in ERP Software
One of the biggest trends for ERP software in 2024 is the integration of artificial intelligence (AI) and machine learning (ML).  AI-driven automation will continue to enhance business processes, helping companies improve efficiency, reduce errors, and make more informed decisions.  Machine learning algorithms will enable ERP systems to predict trends, forecast demand, and offer personalized insights.
For engineering companies in India, AI and ML integration in ERP systems will play a vital role in predictive maintenance, optimizing inventory management, and reducing operational costs.  These features will allow engineering firms to focus on innovation while leaving repetitive and data-driven tasks to automated systems.
2.   Cloud-Based ERP Solutions
Cloud-based ERP systems have been gaining traction in recent years, and this trend is expected to dominate 2024.  Cloud ERP offers scalability, flexibility, and cost-effectiveness, making it an ideal solution for companies of all sizes.  The ability to access real-time data from anywhere in the world provides businesses with a competitive edge, allowing for quicker decision-making and improved collaboration.
For engineering companies, adopting a cloud-based ERP software solution can streamline operations by centralizing data and ensuring that teams, whether on-site or off-site, are working with up-to-date information.  This is particularly relevant for engineering companies in India, where geographically dispersed teams often need access to critical project data in real-time.
3.   ERP Customization and Industry-Specific Solutions
While generic ERP solutions have been widely adopted, there is a growing demand for industry-specific ERP software that caters to the unique needs of different sectors.  In 2024, customization will become a crucial factor in ERP implementation, with businesses seeking solutions tailored to their specific operational requirements.
For engineering companies, this means selecting ERP software designed to handle the complexities of engineering projects, such as project management, materials tracking, and compliance with industry regulations.  The rise of specialized ERP providers, particularly ERP software for engineering companies, will make it easier for businesses to choose solutions that are perfectly aligned with their needs.
ERP software providers in India are increasingly offering industry-specific solutions, and some of the Top 10 ERP software providers in India are focusing on engineering ERP systems that address these niche requirements.  As customization becomes more accessible, businesses will be able to implement ERP solutions that closely match their workflows.
4.   Mobile ERP Functionality
Mobile technology is becoming an integral part of modern business, and ERP systems are no exception.  In 2024, ERP software will continue to expand its mobile capabilities, enabling businesses to access critical information on the go.  Mobile ERP solutions allow employees to access data, manage tasks, and approve workflows from their smartphones or tablets, providing flexibility and improving productivity.
For engineering ERP software companies in India, mobile ERP functionality is particularly valuable for teams working on-site or at multiple locations.  Field engineers can access project data, submit reports, and update tasks in real-time, reducing delays and enhancing collaboration between teams.
5.   Advanced Data Analytics and Business Intelligence
The rise of big data has prompted ERP systems to evolve into powerful data analytics and business intelligence tools.  In 2024, ERP software will focus on enhancing data-driven decision-making by offering advanced analytics and reporting features.  These capabilities will help companies make more informed decisions, identify trends, and uncover hidden opportunities for growth.
Engineering companies, which often deal with complex projects and large amounts of data, can benefit from the enhanced data analytics features of modern ERP systems.  ERP software for engineering companies in India will increasingly provide detailed reports on project performance, cost analysis, and resource allocation, helping managers optimize operations and ensure timely project delivery.
6.   ERP and IoT Integration
The Internet of Things (IoT) is another technology that is transforming the ERP landscape.  In 2024, ERP systems will increasingly integrate with IoT devices, enabling companies to collect real-time data from connected devices, sensors, and machinery.  This integration will provide businesses with valuable insights into their operations, from tracking inventory levels to monitoring equipment performance.
For engineering companies, IoT integration can help with real-time tracking of machinery, improving maintenance schedules, and reducing downtime.  In India, where engineering firms are becoming more reliant on IoT devices, ERP software providers in India are recognizing the need to offer solutions that seamlessly connect IoT data with ERP systems.
7.   Focus on Cybersecurity
With the increasing digitization of business operations, the importance of cybersecurity in ERP systems cannot be overstated.  In 2024, ERP providers will place a stronger emphasis on ensuring the security of sensitive business data.  Companies will expect robust cybersecurity measures such as encryption, multi-factor authentication, and regular security updates to protect their systems from potential breaches.
This is particularly crucial for engineering companies, which often handle sensitive data related to intellectual property, designs, and project specifications.  ERP software for engineering companies must prioritize data protection to safeguard against cyber threats.
8.   Sustainability and Green ERP
Sustainability is no longer just a buzzword; it’s a business imperative.  In 2024, we will see a growing number of businesses turning to ERP software to help them meet their sustainability goals.  Green ERP systems will focus on reducing waste, optimizing resource usage, and tracking a company’s carbon footprint.
Engineering ERP software companies in India are beginning to incorporate sustainability metrics into their offerings, allowing engineering firms to track energy consumption, reduce waste, and ensure compliance with environmental regulations.  As industries become more environmentally conscious, ERP software that supports sustainability initiatives will become a valuable asset.
9.   Best ERP Software Providers in India
With the growing demand for ERP solutions tailored to specific industries, businesses are looking for the best ERP software provider in India to meet their needs.  ERP software providers in India are offering a wide range of solutions, from generic systems to industry-specific software like engineering ERP solutions.
Among the Top 10 ERP software providers in India, companies are competing to offer the most advanced, user-friendly, and customizable solutions.  These providers understand the unique challenges of industries like engineering and are developing software that addresses the specific requirements of managing large-scale projects, resources, and compliance.
10.      ERP Software for Engineering Companies in India
Engineering companies in India are increasingly recognizing the value of ERP software in streamlining operations, improving project management, and enhancing overall efficiency.  In 2024, ERP software for engineering companies in India will focus on providing robust solutions that can handle the complexities of engineering projects, from managing resources to tracking project timelines and ensuring compliance with industry standards.
The right ERP software provider can make a significant difference for engineering firms, helping them optimize workflows, reduce costs, and improve profitability.  As the demand for specialized ERP systems grows, engineering ERP software companies in India will continue to innovate, offering tailored solutions to meet the evolving needs of the industry.
Conclusion
As we look ahead to 2024, the ERP software landscape is set to undergo significant changes, driven by technological advancements and the growing need for industry-specific solutions.  For engineering companies in India, adopting the right ERP system will be crucial in staying competitive and efficient in an increasingly complex business environment.  Whether it is integrating AI, leveraging IoT data, or enhancing cybersecurity, ERP software providers in India are poised to meet the demands of modern businesses with cutting-edge solutions.

Automattic Thoughts
I've gone ahead and turned off sharing data with third party companies here. I've also done the same for what's left on my WordPress.com accounts. That said, I've decided I'm going to go ahead and sever the connection between my three self-hosted WordPress sites/blogs and WordPress.com. That means getting rid of Jetpack, Gravatar, and allowing people with WordPress.com accounts to leave comments and likes. (They can still comment with email verification.) As some developers have revealed on Mastodon/the greater Fediverse, installing Jetpack on a self-hosted WordPress site does send database information back to WordPress.com.
From what I've learned, WordPress.org (which provides the open source WordPress software) isn't affiliated with WordPress.com. They just have the rights to use the WordPress name in order to provide managed hosting. However, the questionable CEO of Automattic is a co-founder of WordPress.org. So it might be worth keeping an eye on future WordPress software updates, and looking into software forks depending on how much influence he holds.
And yes, ClassicPress is one software fork that was created in response to the Gutenberg editor update that most people hated.

Week 2 Blog Post
Describe your ideal role of environmental interpreter. What might it entail? Where might it be? What skills might you need? (Keep these all-in mind as you begin to work on your assignments – tailor these to that ideal job!)
Another week, another blog post:)
Describing my ideal role as an environmental interpreter is a bit of a tough job. I have some ideas of what I might like to do one day but applying interpretation to that can be a bit tricky. For example, recently I have been really into the idea of ‘rewilding’. I hadn’t heard about this concept until a few years back, but the basics of rewilding is to take deteriorated ecosystems and uplift them by reintroducing things like keystone species or reshaping the environment to allow for them to reach their full potential again. Mossy Earth is my main inspiration here and they manage to be incredibly effective interpreters while also doing great environmental work. The video that introduced me to their team was their task of flooding a forest along the Danube River in order to recreate floodplain forests which hadn’t properly functioning for many decades before this.
One of the reasons this was so appealing to me is that it seems to have a great variety of work involved. The team talks about everything from surveying the area to identifying which species in this location could benefit most to physically excavating the land which they wanted to see flooded. This kind of deep involved work is right up my alley, no project would be the same as another but they all result in tangible effects on the environment around you. In the follow up videos you can actually see the forest flooded again and how brimming with life it is! With a relatively low cost this small team has helped restore an ecosystem that was almost inert before their intervention.
All of this ranting is to say that something along these lines would very much suit what I would like to do as an environmental interpreter - giving people a tangible understanding of what we as individuals (or small teams) can do to help the environment. Since this is a very open ended idea of what I might like to do as an interpreter it leaves a million options open as to what I could do or where I could go. Mossy Earth is mainly based in Europe but I’m sure there’s just as many hurting ecosystems in Canada that need attention like this as well. Now, I personally couldn’t see myself making a Youtube channel and trying to attract as many viewers as possible, but maybe something on a smaller scale, like giving guided tours through rewilded areas for example, could be a better way for me personally to interpret nature.
As to the skills I might need for this role, just about everything would be helpful. A deeper understanding of how ecosystems function would be the most broadly useful but skills like using GIS mapping software, finding the right kind of communication to intrigue an audience or sampling rivers for invertebrates would all be skills that would be useful in this sort of venture. In the end I don’t think I would ever truly be done gaining skills for work like this.
I’m excited to see how everyone else views their role as an interpreter and what other people strive to do with their futures as well! Also here's a link to one of the Mossy Earth videos if anyone was interested in taking a look:)
