Is renren a swiftie or no, our relationship future depends on his answer
✦゜ANSWERED: i mean?? he blasted babe - taylor swift (taylor’s version) (from the vault) (lyric video) on full volume the moment he found out leon proposed to you
Unless you don't like Taylor Swift, of course... then he's never heard of her or listened to her music :)

resident evil music headcanons
OKAY OKAY first time writing something and putting it out there but i need to speak my truth lmfao. dont judge too harshly im just autistic about resident evil
includes: albert wesker, leon s kennedy, chris redfield, claire redfield, jill valentine, rebecca chambers, and carlos oliveira
albert wesker:
let's be so fr wesker is gonna be a prick about music
only listens to classical music and maybe some slow smooth jazz
he only listens to music at home playing it through a record player
just imagine him sitting in his at home office working on research with tchaikovsky playing in the background
he'd enjoy going to ballets, symphonies, and operas and you cannot convince me other wise
leon s kennedy:
"he's so lana del ray coded" shut up his ass is listening to limp bizkit be so fr
especially when he's older its just divorced depressed dad rock
he's screaming the words to higher by creed in a bar and chris is trying to calm him down like yikes
definitely would try to go to concerts but they get so loud it gets a little overwhelming for him
he's got a banger cd collection and he's got a portable cd player he refuses to get rid of
chris redfield:
he says he doesn't have that much of preference in music as he just will listen to whatever is playing on the radio
however i think he definitely likes classic rock and classic country
he enjoys bands like queen, pink floyd, and the police
with his work schedule he rarely gets the opportunity to attend concerts and a lot of his favorite artists are dead (rip me too tho)
chris doesn't listen to a bunch of music but that's okay the man is busy
claire redfield:
claire, claire, claire
i wanna say claire is listening to abba and she sings along and dances whenever she does
she also would listen to stevie nicks
(also probably bands like weezer and gorillaz)
and i think as lana del ray started popping off claire was there listening like cmon guys she'd love the ultraviolence album
jill valentine:
jill is listening to the cranberries and the cardigans
when she was younger she loved loud rock but as she's getting older she finds herself wanting to listen to calmer music
when she was younger she would've loved bands like nirvana
now she likes to just plug her headphones in and lay down (its her way of escaping everything and taking a step back)
her and claire make playlists together 🫶
rebecca chambers:
can i real quick just say i love rebecca? okay thank you she is my girl
now idk if this is gonna be controversial but im gonna say it
she'd be a swiftie
she certainly doesn't enjoy taylors carbon emissions but she loves the music (her favorite album would be 1989 or lover)
she's also someone who uses a streaming platform instead of lugging around cds or something
carlos oliveira:
whore.
i just know this man is listening to songs like daddy's home by usher
he probably enjoys a lot of hip hop and rap
some of his favorite songs are captain save a hoe, california love, and it wasnt me
he's like if hey sexy lady by shaggy was a person
anyways just remember these are all my opinions and dont like scream at me for it yk. this is just a silly post. :)

Arkham Movie Trilogy Jonathan Crane, Harley Quinn, and Poison Ivy x Psychiatrist reader
This story is currently in progress!!!
Reader works at Arkham Asylum
Friends with Bruce Wayne
Knows about his alter ego and occasionally helps him solve cases
Reader believes Bruce should do more with his money to benefit Gotham
Combines Heath Ledger’s Joker with Margot Robbie’s Harley Quinn
The reader was in the same major as Harley in college, and the two dated briefly
Harley constantly teases the reader when she catches wind of a new crush
You try to ignore her, but eventually can't as she warns you that the doctor is deadlier than he lets on
You brush it off, too fond of your coworker to accept the notion that he can hurt you
Bruce doesn't like your new counterpart, picking up a destructive energy that screams guilty
In defiance, you decide to bring your beaux to one of many parties and get on your friend’s last nerve.
A kiss is shared in front of the crowd, some murmuring complaints while others smile. You wish to stay in Jonathan’s arms, but the moment is interrupted as Bruce pulls you aside
Naturally, two upper-class socialites fighting in front of an audience calls for bad publicity, but not on your part
“If you keep this up, you'll become a sewer rat criminal just like the rest!”
Luckily, you decided to wear a few rings to accentuate your outfit. Not only do you look stunning, but you reel back and land a brutal slap on his cheek. Yet that doesn't hurt as much as your following words.
“How dare you, Bruce. How dare you scrutinize what you can never understand. Thomas and Martha would be ashamed of you, and you, of all people, know they were difficult to rattle. Next time you need anything, ask someone who gives a shit.”
Your friend has to watch in shock as you exit the home, arm linked with a man he despises. Even in disagreeable situations, you manage to exhibit grace and elegance. It's the beginning of a new era and the opportunity to forget the complex life of the wealthy.
“Is your hand alright, (Y/N)? Better yet, are you okay?”
Never underestimate a psychiatrist to get into your head. He walks you to the car, watching your lips tremble in the darkness. You meet his stare, and one thought crosses your mind: kissing him sounds lovely. The doctor is efficient at picking up social cues, leaning down to meet your lips, and extinguishing the frigid temperature.
“As long as I'm with you, Jonathan. I can do anything with you by my side, no matter the risks.”
I want to make the reader an anti-hero vigilante with the “Grim Reaper” theme. Supernatural powers in Batman don't really occur so I will brainstorm. Most villains are the work of genetic experiments gone wrong so maybe I'll work with that?
JD(Heathers 1989) dating the reader
You are friends with Veronica and the despicable Heathers
Instead of going along with their charades, you often argue and challenge Heather Chandler
She constantly threatens your social standing but knows that the campus would easily choose you over her.
Purple color coded
JD can't help but admire your tenacity as you begrudgingly follow Veronica to the table, attempting to stop the girl from doing Heather’s bidding.
When you walk over, he seems uninterested in the girl speaking to him, instead transfixed on your disinterested attitude. Unknowingly, you lick your lips, tasting lip gloss and wiping some glitter away. When you lock eyes, you swear your heart stops beating, drawn to his carefree attitude.
Veronica says a few words to you, trying to convince you to let her administer the lunch poll
As she talks, you playfully roll your eyes, causing the delinquent to smirk in your direction. He hides a chuckle from breaking out, finding your careless joking funny given the circumstances. When Veronica walks off, it allows you to sit across from the newcomer, albeit a little too eagerly.
“Mind if I ask for a smoke? I'm dying from boredom.”
“Sure, I could never say no to a girl like you. I’m guessing you’ve been trying to break from those devils all day.”
He lights your cigarette as you take it between your teeth, enjoying the visual more than he lets on.
“It's all thanks to you, my knight in obsidian armor.”

Why Don't We Fast Forward
Words: 570
Warnings: cheating, probably poor writing and OOC characters but whatever
Resident Evil Masterlist Main Masterlist 1989 (TV) Event Masterlist Join My Taglist
Technically speaking, both Y/N and Leon cheat. I don't specify names for any other characters (characters that Y/N and Leon technically cheat on one another with) so you can imagine it being whoever you want
Honestly, I pictured 6-Vendetta!Leon while writing this, but you can picture whichever version
And I know this one isn't good, like...at all, but I honestly wasn't sure how to write this one so I just...word vomited and I am hoping for the best
This is the "Is It Over Now" part of my 1989 event!
Anywho, enjoy
Love Z <3
Y/N laid in her bed, staring over at the wilted rose on her nightstand. It had been sitting there since she and Leon had...actually, it wasn't even official. It was just when they both made it official with other people. She sighed and turned to her side, grabbing her phone and opening her photo album, sighing when she saw the photo of the two of them on their first date. A small smile also graced her lips, however, as she thought of the memory of him with the takeout coffee.
----
He handed her a small takeout coffee cup, "So this is take, what? 300? Did I finally get your coffee order right?"
She tentatively took a sip of the caffeinated beverage before closing her eyes and sighing. "300 takeout coffee's later and you did it." She opened them and looked at him, but she saw that he wasn't looking at her. She turned and saw that his eyes and smile were on one of the baristas inside. She turned and snapped her fingers in his face.
He shook his head and looked at her, "Yeah?"
She pointed at the barista inside, "What was that?"
He tilted his head before wrapping his arm around her, guiding her away. "I don't know what you're talking about."
----
She angrily threw her phone as she flicked over to the photo of him with the chick that had the same hair as her. It was taken before he confirmed he cheated, but she wasn't sure if it was before she cheated. If she was going to be honest, she doesn't even know when the damn relationship ended. Was it when she allowed herself to be tempted out of anger and jealousy and...suspicion? Or was it when he allowed another girl onto his couch.
She wondered when it happened.
----
"--You're such a fucking liar and a traitor Leon!"
"I am?! You let him unbutton your blouse!"
"And you allowed her to lay with you on your couch! Don't act so fucking innocent!"
"The fact is this, Y/N, you don't have proof!"
"I don't?" She angrily took out her phone and shoved it in his face, "At least I have the fucking decency to keep any possible infidelity out of the sights of others!" She screamed as he took her phone to look at the photo of his kissing the girl with Y/H/C hair and Y/E/C eyes. "All I ever have had about myself is rumors Leon, fucking rumors!"
He looked at her desperately, "Y/N, please--"
"We both cheated, we know this, but what I want to know is this, when did you think about it?" She nearly sobbed, "After you crashed that snowmobile? Or was it when we had that mission and were on the yacht and I was dressed in that blue dress? Was it then? Where that girl who was basically my clone was all up on you? Was it then?"
"I don't know." He whispered.
"You don't know?" He shook his head, "So you don't know when this relationship ended?"
"Is it even over now?!" He shouted.
----
She wondered if it was even over in that instant, before, or even later. Afterall, no one even knew they broke up until he got with his current girl (who was...shockingly) her clone and she got with her current guy (who was, of course, Leon's clone).

I recently interviewed my mom about her experiences during the Liberian Civil War. Throughout our conversation, I discovered that she had moved several times over the course of a few years, which was something I didn't know before. While I initially believed that she had only migrated to the Ivory Coast, I learned that she had moved to many different locations. The war began in 1989, but it truly escalated for my mom in 1990. One night, while she and her siblings were sleeping, they were awoken by the sound of gunshots and people screaming. They heard people being taken away from their children, and my mom and her siblings ended up running and hiding in the bushes. After a few days, they eventually traveled to the Ivory Coast. Although her family sent for her, the government sent troops to Liberia to investigate the conflict, and my mom return to Monrovia with the military.
When the news of the conflict was shared with the city, people laughed and didn't believe them. They thought that my mom and her family were lying about what was happening. Three months later, the city was attacked again, and my mom and her family fled to Sierra Leone with the help of her sister's boyfriend, who was in the military. Monrovia is closer to Sierra Leone's borders, which made it faster to cross. Despite being traumatized by the violence they had witnessed, they had to adapt to their new surroundings and start anew. The violence my mom and her family witnessed was extremely traumatic. They had never seen guns before, except in movies, and their friends were dying. Kids were separated from their parents and ended up with strangers. Rebels were cutting open pregnant women and taking their babies out of their stomachs. Rebels were also cutting off people's arms and legs, and many people had amputations after the war. She knew someone whose parents were killed right in front of them and they couldn’t cry or they would be killed. Women and girls were being raped, and little boys were being trained to be rebels. The rebels went after the Krahn people first because the president, Samuel K. Doe, was Krahn. (The tribe) My mom was Krahn, which is why they fled to Sierra Leone. However, shortly after they arrived, Charles Taylor brought the war into Sierra Leone, which forced them to flee again after just six weeks. They were trying to return to the Ivory Coast, but the journey was longer because Liberia was in the middle.
From Sierra Leone, they went to Guinea and stayed for a week before finally going to the Ivory Coast. The journey took about two months, and they had to register as refugees when they arrived. They received necessities they needed and stayed there until 1999. It was difficult for my mom and her family to adapt to life in the Ivory Coast. She had learned French while she was there and even got pregnant in 1996. However, when she left to go to America, her son was not in the program, so she had to leave him behind, which was very hard for her because she didn’t want to do that and wanted to stay but knew she had to make a better life for him. Living in the Ivory Coast, she and her siblings were bullied and called refugees. People wanted to fight them because they were not from there, so it was hard adapting for the second time. It was easier in Sierra Leone because the country also speaks English.
On February 10, 1999, they left the Ivory Coast and arrived in New York on my mom's birthday, February 11. They came to America on the resettlement program as refugees, and they were given an IOM bag that identified them as refugees. People were laughing at them at JFK, and my mom and her siblings felt ashamed and embarrassed, but there was nothing they could do. My mom had a lot of cultural shock and seen a lot of differences when she came to America. When she came to America, things were different for her. She couldn't work for a while and due to them being refugees they had some benefits and were given money and food stamps until they were on their feet for coats and other necessities because America was cold, she had never experienced cold or snow before. Seeing homeless people when they only showed the good parts and people standing on the bus while kids were sitting was also new to her. In her culture, it's disrespectful to have adults stand while kids sit, so she would always give up her seat. Another shock was seeing vets for animals when in her country, there were barely any hospitals for humans. Overall my mom had experienced different cultures, languages, and environments in each country she lived in with with their own challenges.
Despite all these challenges, she adapted to living in America and got her citizenship in 2005. She even went back home to see her family and eventually she sent for them to come to the USA. It was hard for a long time, but things paid off in the end.

horror/thriller movie recommendations based on your fave Danganronpa 1/2 character
the series in general: Saw (2004, dir. James Wan) - i can’t give much of a reasoning for this as i haven’t seen it but the “punishment fits the victim” trope appears to be a thing in Saw?
Makoto Naegi: It (2017, dir. Andres Muschietti) - as much about the power of friendship as it is about a fear beyond all others. the premise is probably relatively well known by now for the fact that there’s a big clown in it. content warnings: clowns, unsanitary, implied incest and csa.
Sayaka Maizono: Psycho (1960, dir. Alfred Hitchcock) - this suggestion is an incredibly cheap shot, please forgive me. famous film, not sure if i can talk too much about the plotline without giving away the most important part.
Mukuro Ikusaba: Us (2019, dir. Jordan Peele) - doppelgangers show up to wreak havoc on an american family. themes of identity theft. much bloodier than Get Out.
Leon Kuwata: Scream (1996, dir. Wes Craven) - admittedly haven’t seen this either yet. i know, i know, i’m a fake horror fan. but i know that it was made as a sort of tongue-in-cheek homage to the tropeyness of horror films, and i didn’t want to put any movie too blatantly humorous here. i thought this would fit Leon.
Chihiro Fujisaki: A Quiet Place (2018, dir. John Krasinski) - monsters that attack based on noise terrorize a family. most dialogue is delivered through sign language. also has a really touching family dynamic, especially between the father and his children.
Mondo Oowada: Pet Sematary (1989, dir. Mary Lambert) - haven’t seen this one either, whoops. all i know is it’s about, like, bringing people back from the dead or something, and that it’s based on a Stephen King book.
Kiyotaka Ishimaru: The Stand (1994, dir. Mick Garris) - technically a miniseries, but i wasn’t really sure what other horror story fit him. it’s the world at the end in a final battle between good and evil, and nothing says Ultimate Moral Compass more than that to me.
Hifumi Yamada: Strangers on a Train (1951, dir. Alfred Hitchcock) - the whole “i’ll do your murder if you do mine” kinda hits for chapter 3 i think. i also remember his hostage being his sister, so he’d probably like the relationship between Anne and Barbara.
Celes Ludenberg: Crimson Peak (2015, dir. Guillermo del Toro) - there’s a line the main character says that’s something to the effect of how she’d rather be like Mary Wollstonecraft Shelley because she died a widow? that’s Celescore. content warning: incest.
Sakura Oogami: Hereditary (2018, dir. Ari Aster) - both in the way that her dojo is a family business and in the themes of being afraid of hurting your loved ones. content warnings: child death, car accident, decapitation, possession, drug usage.
Toko Fukawa: Rebecca (1940, dir. Alfred Hitchcock) - again haven’t watched or read the book on which it is based but the fact alone that it is based on a book? and it’s not directed by stanley kubrick’s book-ruining ass?
Byakuya Togami: Rope (1948, dir. Alfred Hitchcock) - based on a play which itself was probably based loosely on the Leopold & Loeb case, it’s famous in part for its protagonists being gay. also they have superiority complexes and think that the privileged few should be allowed to murder inferior people because they’re above morality.
Yasuhiro Hagakure: A Nightmare on Elm Street (1984, dir. Wes Craven) - i feel like this is closer to what his brand of horror would be, but also people not really believing that what’s happening is actually happening is kind of his m.o. too. content warning: i don’t remember if this is explicit in the original or not, but Freddy Krueger was a pedophile.
Aoi Asahina: Friday the 13th (1980, dir. Sean S. Cunningham) - again i just think this is closer to what Hina’s brand of horror would be, but also i feel like the summer camp aesthetic would be for her.
Kyouko Kirigiri: The Secret in Their Eyes (2009, dir. Juan Jose Campanella) - i don’t totally remember it but detective going off the rails trying to solve a rape & murder case. Very intense, but very good.
Junko Enoshima: Midsommar (2019, dir. Ari Aster) - gaslighting people into joining a death cult? yeah, that screams junko. content warnings: graphic suicide, drug usage, gaslighting, people on fire, nudity, sex.
Monokuma: Child’s Play (1988, dir. Tom Holland) - creepy toy carrying the soul of a murderer. still need to finish watching this one, other than “creepy doll” i don’t have anything to offer in the way of content warnings.
Hajime Hinata: Get Out (2017, dir. Jordan Peele) - reluctant to go too much into details because i wouldn’t want to spoil the film for those who haven’t seen it, but the experiment done on Hajime vibes w this movie. content warning in that this film is about racism.
Twogami: Vertigo (1958, dir. Alfred Hitchcock) - too many details would give away spoilers but the identity theft theme of the film fits for a guy whose talent is in identity theft.
Teruteru Hanamura: Halloween (1978, dir. John Carpenter) - had a hard time thinking of a horror movie for Teruteru, but Halloween (and 80′s slashers in general) have a tendency to punish the horny.
Mahiru Koizumi: I Know What You Did Last Summer (1997, dir. Jim Gillespie) - would it be too much of a spoiler to say there’s similarities between this film & what gets Mahiru killed in-game?
Peko Pekoyama: The Purge (2013, dir. James DeMonaco) - people using masks to enact what they feel is justified revenge on the one day of the year when all crime is legal.
Hiyoko Saionji: The VVitch (2015, dir. Robert Eggers) - based on colonial-era folk tales about witches. very atmospheric, features the same kind of abusive slut-shaming verbal assaults Hiyoko hurls at others. content warning for briefly implied incest, some nudity, and parents being shitty.
Ibuki Mioda: Green Room (2015, dir. Jeremy Saulnier) - still need to see this one; punk band tries to survive to the end of the night after witnessing neo-nazis commit a murder.
Mikan Tsumiki: Carrie (1976, dir. Brian De Palma) - another film based on a stephen king novella, and also a pretty famous story. a longtime bullying & abuse victim starts to lose her shit after she begins developing telepathy. content warning for some nudity, fire, and an abusive mother.
Nekomaru Nidai: Les Yeux Sans Visage (1960, dir. Georges Franju) - wasn’t really sure where to go with him either, at first, and settled on body horror considering what happens to him later in-game. a doctor attempts to find a new face for his daughter after she is left disfigured from an accident.
Gundham Tanaka: The Cabinet of Dr. Caligari (1921, dir. Robert Wiene) - a mad scientist claims his hypnotized ‘somnambulist’ can see into the future, including the deaths of carnival-goers. highly influential silent film, german expressionist so peak aesthetic.
Nagito Komaeda: The Silence of the Lambs (1991, dir. Jonathan Demme) - it’s probably well enough known for Hannibal the Cannibal being in it, but it’s worth noting he’s not the primary antagonist of the film. he is the most memorable part of it, and his psychoanalysis is what made me think of Komaeda. content warnings for gore, sexual harassment, referenced cannibalism, period-typical transphobia (period is the late 80s/early 90s).
Chiaki Nanami: V/H/S (2012, various directors) - a horror anthology film of found-footage type shorts, not shown in chronological order of events. i don’t really remember the contents enough for warnings, check at your own risk.
Akane Owari: The Blair Witch Project (1999, dirs. Eduardo Sanchez & Daniel Myrick) - don’t really have a good reason for this one other than “they all go feral, which Akane is seconds from doing at any given moment.” i think she’d dig it. no real content warnings to be had, the original found footage film.
Kazuichi Souda: Jaws (1975, dir. Stephen Spielberg) - i’m not even entirely sure i know what would make him like it, maybe just the mechanical shark? i think we all know this as the movie that made people double down on their hatred of sharks. i don’t particularly care for it, but it’s popular.
Sonia Nevermind: Perfume: Story of a Murderer (2006, dir. Tom Tykwer) - follows a would-be perfumer as he murders women in an attempt to create the perfect scent. in retrospect i probably should have picked something based on a real crime, but i still think she’d like this one.
Fuyuhiko Kuzuryu: M (1931, dir. Fritz Lang) - when the police fail to catch a serial child murderer, the criminal underworld steps up to take action into their own hands. fitting, no?
Usami: Trick ‘r Treat (2007, dir. Michael Doughtery) - another sort of anthology film that follows what happens to townsfolk when they don’t abide by Halloween traditions. i put it for Usami because i thought it was actually kind of cute, as far as horror films go.

I bet you can't tell me what it smells like in the Sistine Chapel. You never actually stood there and looked up at that beautiful ceiling. Seeing that. If I ask you about women, you'll probably give me a syllabus of your personal favorites. You may have even been laid a few times. But you can't tell me what it feels like to wake up next to a woman and feel truly happy. You're a tough kid. I ask you about war, you'd probably throw Shakespeare at me, right? "Once more into the breach, dear friends." But you've never been near one. You've never held your best friend's head in your lap and watch him gasp his last breath lookin' to you for help. If I asked you about love, you'd probably quote me a sonnet, but you've never looked at a woman and been totally vulnerable. Known someone that could level you with her eyes. Feelin' like God put an angel on Earth just for you, who could rescue you from the depths of hell.’

‘A shootout is a fucking shootout!!....Like a Western’
‘You think that’s a Schwiiiiiin’
‘I eat the Canadian? I don’t know what you’re talking about’
‘I don’t read the script, the script reads me’ ‘What the hell does that even mean??’
‘oh nothing Tommy, it’s….tip-top, it’s just i’m not sure about the colour’
All the other quotes I find funny are completely random movie quotes that my family has just turned into a joke and that we can easily incorporate into conversation e.g. ‘whadaya gonna do ranger rick, shoot me?’ ‘I could do that’, ‘you sir, too sir’, ‘I don’t want Nenat’, ‘I drive’, ‘you want uhhh money or something’, ‘yeah i like dags’, ‘there is no spoon’ ETC you get the point

The Democratic Party’s Alt-LeftThe American Spectator

The Democratic Party’s Alt-LeftThe American Spectator
Liberal reporters sprinted to the nation’s capital with their cameras this weekend in desperate hopes of capturing an “alt-right” uprising. The larger the smattering of white nationalists, the better for smearing Republicans and the Trump administration.
Alas, they were disappointed.
“Approximately two dozen white nationalists rallied in the nation’s capital on Sunday, one year after clashes in Charlottesville, Virginia,” lamented CNN. “The showing from ‘Unite the Right 2’ participants fell far short of the hundreds that organizer Jason Kessler was expecting.”
The liberal media didn’t get the “alt-right” fireworks it wanted. But in the meantime, liberals face an alt-left uprising within their beloved Democratic Party, and it doesn’t seem to disappoint them one bit.
Forget about two dozen angry white nationalists in Washington. They literally couldn’t fill two 15-passenger Ford vans. But how about the 40,000-plus members of the Democratic Socialists of America, the self-proclaimed largest socialist organization in the country? Not only is the DSA boasting a surge in membership under a Trump presidency, but it’s running candidates across the nation on the Democratic Party ticket. Traditional Democrats are losing in primaries to DSA “democratic socialists” running as Democrats.
The Democratic Party has an alt-left problem, and no one at CNN seems to care.
The DSA has been aggressively pushing its members to run as Democrats, and they’re winning. Here are three that embody what’s going on: Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez, Summer Lee, and Sara Innamorato.
Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez is, of course, the poster-girl for the new zeitgeist. That unclean spirit is the wind of “democratic socialism,” which is the rage among the Trump “resistance.” But Ocasio-Cortez isn’t the only young woman scoring big in the Democratic Party for the DSA. Two others are here in my backyard of Western Pennsylvania, Summer Lee and Sara Innamorato, who defeated longtime state reps Paul and Dom Costa. The Costas (they are cousins) were classic Western Pennsylvania Democrats, expected to hold their seats for life, until they were beat soundly in May in the primary by Lee and Innamorato, both of which now run unopposed in the general election and will glide into the state house as elected socialists. Well, actually, as “democratic socialists” who ran as Democrats.
Here are three “young progressive women,” as an excited New York Times describes them, that are on the march.
Lee and Innamorato, like Ocasio-Cortez, were openly backed by the DSA, and did not run from that endorsement. Quite the contrary. Both are members of the Pittsburgh chapter of the DSA.
“I hope [the primary election] emboldens some secret progressives in elected office,” says Innamorato. “I hope they stop thinking, ‘I will get voted out if I don’t vote for this abortion ban.’ They can’t use that excuse any more. [The election] says that this is possible, you can run on progressive platforms, you can be a DSA member.”
The DSA certainly doesn’t dodge the socialist label, even as it lamely tries to spoon the collectivist gruel in a more palatable way to oblivious Millennials: “We believe that the workers and consumers who are affected by economic institutions should own and control them.”
It’s the same old slop, even as the DSA “constitution” tries to dress up the standard socialist boilerplate, calling for (to note just one example) a “humane social order based on popular control of resources and production, economic planning, equitable distribution, feminism, racial equality and non-oppressive relationships.”
A sprinkling of economic socialism here, some classical Marxism there, and a little cultural Marxism, too.
Sure, guys. Go for it.
Even then, what the likes of Ocasio-Cortez and Lee and Innamorato and their advocates don’t understand is that they’re not the first “democratic socialists” or “socialist democrats.” Plenty of hardcore communists shared the label. Take the troika of Vladimir Lenin, Leon Trotsky, and Joseph Stalin: Their Soviet Communist Party was originally the Russian Social Democratic Party, also known as (or variously called or translated as) the Russian Social Democratic Labour Party or the Russian Social Democratic Workers’ Party. A key name change came in 1903, at the 2nd Congress of the Russian Social Democratic Labor Party, starting in Brussels and ending in London, where Lenin seized the name “Bolsheviks” (meaning “Majority”) for his faction, whereas his opponents became the “Mensheviks” (or “Minority”).
They weren’t the only pioneering “social democrats” or “democratic socialists.” Consider Herbert Marcuse, the godfather of cultural Marxism, which today is prevalent in our universities under the deceptive label of “critical theory.” Marcuse first considered himself a “democratic socialist.” He was the most popular theorist of the Frankfurt School and became a guru to the 1960s New Left. The Weather Underground cadre read and loved Marcuse, as did America’s most famous female comrade, Angela Davis, who considered Marcuse her mentor. As readers here know, Davis in January 2017 held forth before a sea of clueless girls in pink hats fashioned after their genitalia at the Women’s March in Washington. There, comrade Angela spoke not of Marx and Lenin and Trotsky (she’s not stupid), but of gay rights, immigrant rights, the rights of flora and fauna, and on and on, while the ignorant young ladies screamed their approval.
Oh, and comrade Angela is well-known to Trump nemesis John Brennan: Brennan, Obama’s CIA director, voted for the Communist Party USA presidential ticket of Gus Hall and Angela Davis.
Of course, this unsavory history is likely unknown to Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez, who was born in October 1989, as the Berlin Wall was about to fall. Alexandria was nursing at her mother’s breast as the wall was being pick-axed by jubilant East Berliners. As for Summer Lee and Sara Innamorato, they were toddlers in bouncer-seats. None of them remember the wonders of what Brezhnev and boys hailed as “real socialism” in their delightful Communist Bloc, and their government schools and lousy colleges surely taught them nothing of it.
If told that history now, Ocasio-Cortez and Lee and Innamorato might object that they’re a happier brand of “democratic socialist,” perhaps more along the lines of what Hugo Chavez once hailed as “21st century socialism.” Of course, when one examines the actual results, “21st century socialism” smells a lot like 20th century communism. The lines and shortages and lack of deodorant and toilet paper are just as bad in Venezuela in 2018 as they were in Czechoslovakia in 1968.
Nonetheless, this “democratic socialist” bunkum is having success in America today, especially among Millennials brainwashed by their universities. And most striking, it’s making headway within one of this nation’s two dominant political parties.
It is apparently a new day for the Democratic Party. Maybe Nancy Pelosi and Maxine Waters and friends can take a page from the old troika of Lenin and Trotsky and Stalin, a page from the new troika of Ocasio-Cortez and Lee and Innamorato, and do a name change. Maybe the “Democratic Party” could become the “Democratic Socialist Party.”
These three women seem game for that. “My name is Sara Innamorato,” says one of the new troika at her campaign website. “I am a Democrat.”
Yes, and she’s a Democratic Socialist.
Is there really much of a difference nowadays?

David Dimbleby is the face of Question Time where he has spent over 20 years at the helm
David Dimbleby announced last night (Sun) that he will leave Question Time at the end of the year after 25 years at the helm.
After years of speculation over his future, the veteran broadcaster said he is leaving the BBC’s flagship political debate programme to become a reporter again.
Mr Dimbleby, 79, said it had been ‘exhilarating following the twists and turns of British politics’ and a privilege to bring ‘voters face to face with those in power’.
BBC bosses on Sunday described him as a ‘titan in British broadcasting’ who has been a ‘brilliant champion of the public’.
However the corporation remained tight-lipped over who might replace him. Kirsty Young, the presenter of Desert Island Discs on Radio 4, is widely considered to be the favourite to succeed him.
Other candidates are said to include Victoria Derbyshire and Newsnight presenter Evan Davis.

David Dimbleby married British cookery writer Josceline Gaskell at Kensington Register Office. He is now married to TV producer Belinda Giles
Mr Dimbleby, who took over from Peter Sissons in January 1994, will sit in the chair for the final time on December 13. The programme was originally hosted by Robin Day.
Mr Dimbleby has presided over every BBC election night broadcast since 1979, as well as Budget Days and local, European and American elections.
The broadcaster also fronts the BBC’s coverage of the annual Remembrance Day service at the Cenotaph and other state occasions. Corporation chiefs refused to say whether he would continue in these roles.
Who could replace David Dimbleby on Question Time?
Victoria Derbyshire is tipped to be in the running to take David Dimbleby’s job
Victoria Derbyshire
Victoria Derbyshire, 49, a Bafta-winning journalist and presenter, is also thought to be on the shortlist. The former Newsnight presenter is famed for her gentle but dogged interview technique. She won plaudits for making video diaries of her treatment for breast cancer.
Kirsty Young
Kirsty Young, 49, may be in with a chance after her widely-praised Royal Wedding coverage last month. The Desert Island Discs presenter was one of the original newsreaders on Channel 5 News. She also previously presented Crimewatch on BBC One.
Evan Davis
Mr Davis, 56, is a presenter of Newsnight. But having been found guilty of breaching the BBC’s impartiality rules last year after seemingly favouring Emmanuel Macron over Marine Le Pen in the French presidential election, Mr Davis’s likelihood of getting the role may be threatened.
Kirsty Wark
Kirsty Wark is also no stranger to current affairs and news programmes, having presented Newsnight since for over two decades, since 1993.
Mrs Wark, 63, has an ascerbic, efficient interview style. Many may remember when she came to blows with the then-First Minister of Scotland, Alex Salmond during an interview in 2007. The BBC subsequently received over 100 complaints.
She has spoken openly about dealing with the menopause and has advocated we have a four-day work week so we have time to learn new skills.
Emily Maitlis
In the running for the coveted position is Newsnight presenter and BBC election coverage extraordinaire, Emily Maitlis.
The Cambridge-educated journalist, 47, has already worked closely with current host David Dimbleby when they covered the US elections together in 2012.
The mother-of-two has suffered at the hand of a persistent stalker, Edward Vines, who she met as a platonic friend at university. In January this year, he breached his third restraining order against the television star and was jailed for three years and nine months.
Mrs Maitlis was a central figure in the BBC’s recent gender pay gap row, with her agent saying it was ‘beyond madness’ that she was not among some of the best paid presenters at the corporation.
Andrew Marr
Prime Minister, Theresa May appears on The Andrew Marr Show with the presenter who could take the hosting job on Question Time
Following a stroke in January 2013, Andrew Marr, 58, has suffered from ill health, but his efforts to continue with his Andrew Marr Show on BBC1 every Sunday have tested – and proven –his dedication to political interviewing and commentary. Marr, who earns more than £400,000, used to be editor of The Independent newspaper.
Jeremy Vine
Jeremy Vine, 53, shocked the nation when he decided to take a hiatus from broadcasting to star on BBC One’s Strictly Come Dancing.
Partnered with Karen Clifton, he wowed audiences with his salsa to Michael Jackson’s ‘Thriller’ on the Halloween episode.
But Mr Vine was previously known as an altogether more serious character, having presented the BBC’s The Politics Show from 2003 to 2005.
As a journalist, he has reported on the Angolan Civil War, interviewed Robert Mugabe and covered elections in Algiers and Kenya.
In September he will take over from Matthew Wright as the presenter The Wright Stuff on Channel 5.
The 2015 election was set to be his last, with BBC News presenter Huw Edwards due to take over. But when Theresa May announced the snap election last year, there was a behind-the-scenes tussle resulting in a BBC announcement that Mr Dimbleby would front it.
He scotched speculation that he might hand over the reins of the election coverage four years ago by saying: ‘I don’t have any instinct to make way gracefully. I shall be dragged kicking and screaming from my chair.’ Announcing his decision to leave Question Time, he said last night: ‘At the end of the year I will have been chairing Question Time for a quarter of a century and I have decided that this is the right moment to leave.
‘It has been a privilege to work for a programme which brings voters face to face with those in power. It has been exhilarating following the twists and turns of British politics from John Major in 1994, through the Blair and Brown years to Cameron and May.
David has hosted Question Time since 1994 and has become the face of the BBC’s election coverage. He said 2015 would be his last but he returned in 2017 to cover the snap election

David Dimbleby, 79, from Surrey, is a veteran broadcaster who has been the face of the BBC’s election coverage for years.
David Dimbleby has even appeared on daytime TV show Loose Women. He told the all-female panel about his first tattoo which represents him being a Scorpio
‘I am not giving up broadcasting. Instead, after years in the studio, I now plan to return to my first love: reporting.’ Mr Dimbleby, who got a tattoo of a scorpion on his back at the age of 75, started broadcasting for the BBC 57 years ago as a news reporter in Bristol after leaving Christ Church college in Oxford with a degree in politics, philosophy and economics.
He presented the BBC’s coverage of the first Europe referendum in 1975, a role he repeated in 2016 when the country voted for Brexit.
The presenter had to compete for the coveted job of Question Time host with Jeremy Paxman with both men filming pilot shows as an audition.
Mr Dimbleby, who is paid about £450,000 to front the show, said later: ‘The BBC turned it into a prize fight, not me.’
Although best known now for election nights and Question Time, he was at his post for the funerals of Diana, Princess of Wales and the Queen Mother. His name has been mentioned as a possible director-general of the BBC.
Last night current director-general Tony Hall said: ‘David has been at the helm of Question Time for over 25 years: a brilliant champion of the public and the audiences’ friend – getting the answers they want on the big and difficult issues of the day.

‘Always a commanding figure, David has ensured Question Time has not only stayed relevant through the years, but a must watch for those interested in politics and current affairs. He is a titan in British broadcasting.’
David Dimbleby’s funniest moments on Question Time
When told by John Prescott that he was called Dimblebot on Twitter, Dimbleby replied: ‘I do know I’m called Dimblebot and I know there is a Dimbledance – and I can do it, too… but this is neither the time or the place.’
After committed Remainer Terry Christian repeatedly talked over the host and other panellists, Dimbleby told him: ‘OK, let’s stop, stop, stop, stop, stop, please. It’s getting boring, boring, boring. If we’re going to have arguments conducted like this, I can see why people get bored.’
When an audience member refused to stop talking while guests were trying to speak, Dimbleby said to rapturous applause: ‘I think you ought to leave.’
During a debate on the EU referendum a year before the vote, he tried to move on from the topic by saying: OK, let’s leave the EU for the moment.’ After much laughter, he added: ‘Only for the moment.’
In 2013, when Boris Johnson warned against ‘an orgy of banker bashing’, comedian Russell Brand joked: ‘An orgy of any kind would be great, but one that focuses on banker bashing would be the best kind of orgy I could imagine.’
When Dimbleby gently mocked Jacob Rees-Mogg for attending Eton, the Tory MP replied: I was at school with your son.’
Speaking of politicians on the show, he said: ‘What they most dislike is the question that catches them off guard and the humiliation of being publicly mocked.’
BBC’s director of content Charlotte Moore, said: ‘He has led Question Time through times of momentous political change, allowing the audience to set the agenda and hold those in power to account. Thursday nights have become essential viewing for anyone who wants to be part of the current debate.’
Director of News, Fran Unsworth added: ‘He’s been a commanding figure in the chair and has been at the forefront of the biggest debates over the last 25 years. He has our huge thanks for holding politicians to account and ensuring the voice of the nation is heard.’
