While I'm healing from oral surgery, I've been watching the shows that I used to watch when I was a child. I've watched The Andy Griffith Show, My Three Sons, The Flying Nun, and Gidget so far. It's refreshing to see wholesome TV where there's no violence or subterfuge or people acting poorly. It's fun and funny and the people are charming. They are being helpful and acting like I wish people still did on TV. Heck, I wish that people focused on acting this way for real. I miss TV programming like this. It reinforces positive thoughts and actions, and it's a great example of how we should act in life. I think that they should start creating programs like these again. We should insist on it and stop watching the horrible shows that have replaced these kinds of shows. Considering what is considered entertaining and is common viewing fare these days, it's no wonder that sooooooo many people have anxiety. We should have programs that teach our kids to behave kindly and in a positive manner. Shows that set a good example. I feel happier from watching these shows. I'm gonna watch them more for sure. It's great to see people acting nicely and being kind to each other. TV should have a social responsibility to reinforce these ideals, not the violent, selfish, manipulative garbage that is prominent in programming today. The only somewhat violent show that I watched today is Bugs Bunny. He's so charming that he can get away with it, in my opinion 😁 thankfully, there's nothing graphic in those cartoons. I am enjoying TV more today than I have in a long, long time. 😊😍🙏🏼

So my family does this thing, where every year instead of Christmas, we do "advent".

Basically what we do is everyone buys 2 gifts for everyone else, we wrap em, put em in whatever the designated spot is (we don't have room for a Christmas tree and our new gigantic puppy probably would've destroyed it this year if we did have one) and each day somebody makes a treat and gets a present.

For example: today I'm making potato candy, I'll open a present, and tomorrow will be my mother's day. The next day will be my sister's, then my father's, and then back to me.

And the treat isn't just for us, we always take a portion of it and bring it to someone we know or occasionally a new neighbour that we might not have met yet.

Psych teacher: So you know how sometimes people procrastinate a big thing like a paper by cleaning, even though they don't actually like cleaning? When you're trying to avoid something you're anxious about, any task that is below that level of anxiety is a viable option for procrastination. And when doing something that is still a task, it feels rewarding! People fall into a trap of not prioritizing errands and homework correctly based on this, so be careful-

Dubious life hack: If you're frozen with anxiety and have 10 things you need to do, organize them based on how anxious they make you. Do the third item on the list. Do it again. And again until it's just those top two most terrifying things left. Instead of avoiding everything all day, you've now done 8 things! Congratulations, you are less fucked than you would be otherwise.

Follow up life hack: Pick a less stressful day to do the second most important thing on the list

Follow up, follow up life hack: Schedule a day where the only thing you have to do all day is the most terrifying thing on your list. Yes, even if it only takes 10 minutes. You will not do it otherwise.

Feeling a Bit Happier & Freer Than I Have in Months.

And I would like to start by saying that since I officially gave up working for the popular gas station as a manager of the store, I have been dealing with a lot less stress and anxiety. It’s a freeing feeling to only have to work Monday through Friday for just 6 hours a day. I’m back to having time…

💖 Day 3.5 is now available! 💖

For the last couple of months, only Server Boosters had access to the 3.5 update... Buuuuut now it's available for everyone to play in the 14DWY Discord — and soon itch.io once I'm happy with the QA and state of the game — so please don't feel pressured to join unless you want to!!

What's been added to the 3.5 version?

📺 Streamer Mode!

I've been told that it's difficult to stream and monetise age-restricted videos on YouTube and Twitch, so I added an option to remove the sexual content and strong language used in the demo.

Now y'all can invite Ren into your bed for cuddles without putting your streamer career on the line /silly /lh

This won't affect the 18+ rating or dark themes/elements of the game, however! Although Streamer Mode will prevent you from seeing any "gruesome" CGs in the future, most of the core elements of the game will still be tied to the choices and decisions you make. So you won't miss out on the overall experience by using streamer mode!!

⚙️ Custom Pronouns!

It only took me one entire year to get around to it, but you can finally choose your own preferred pronouns (or use a set of pronouns instead)... At the cost of being able to change them mid-game ^^;

Since the original pronoun screen wouldn't update until a new scene was displayed, I temporarily disabled the feature. But once I find a workaround, I'll bring it back!

💗 Choose how others perceive you!

You can now choose how the cast and narration perceive you! Originally, the narration was kept strictly gender-neutral (outside of pronouns and genitalia picked by the player), but this will soon change in future updates.

For more clarity: you don't get to choose the words specifically, but you can choose between masculine, feminine, and androgynous terms!

📋 Separate top and bottom genitalia!

You can now choose your tatas and pps separately! >:3

Alongside that, you can also choose your preferred body type!

I removed the "both" genitalia option because a few players still assumed it was an obscure version of "intersex". That wasn't my intention and I don't want to mislead anyone, so I took it out for now ^^;

I also didn't want to include a screenshot of the new genitalia choices in action (because it's NSFW), so y'all get the same character menu screen for the nth time instead lmao

📱 Relationship Screen Overhaul!

You can now change your own status for more immersion, and long-term Server Boosters will eventually be able to submit and use their own icon within the game as well!

Stalking finding your friends has now become easier by using "Buddy Maps"; a new app that allows you to see the location of all the cast members!

I want to offer players more incentive to check the relationship screen since they tend to miss the status updates, so hopefully this might help ;v;

It also says it "updates every few hours" so folks don't go overboard and check every 5 seconds to see where Ren is gdsghf (also keep in mind that he's a hacker lol)

🖤 Additional Scenes Update!

Day 2 received a brand new CG!!!!! Originally, I planned on only adding a few CGs sporadically throughout the game, but it didn't feel right to leave Day 2 so... empty... so I added a brand new CG to (hopefully) make things feel more balanced and natural!

If you decline Teo's offer on Day 3, Leon will now call and try to convince you to reconsider. However, players are still allowed to decline, and if they do, they'll reach a dead end.

After listening to feedback on itch, I changed some of the dialogue during Days 1-3 to make it seem more consistent! They're only small changes though, so it's honestly not worth looking for sdgjssga

🎶 Updated BGM and SFX!

I wanted to try out a different style of music to see if it fits the vibe of 14DWY more! The BGM features more acoustics to suit the "beachy" theme of Corland Bay, though I made a conscious effort to include piano elements as well to stay true to the original!!

I figured it'd be better to give players a live example before I make a poll (to see if they prefer the change or not) and publish it to Itch.

Some new SFX have also been added, though it's very minimal and honestly not that noticeable.

How to download and play the update?

(warning: clicking on the following links will open Discord!!) To download the Day 3.5 update, simply join the 14DWY Discord server, verify your age, and visit the "14dwy-updates" channel!

Alternatively, you can also wait until the update is publicly released on Itch to play it as well!! (It normally gets released shortly after a round of QA testing/getting feedback from the server, though I may release it earlier if I feel like it hehe ^^)

the choice between Edward & Jacob is not a question of which relationship is healthier or which partner is best suitable for Bella. neither is correct. neither is best. neither produces a happy ending for Bella. at the end of the day this is still a vampire novel. any choice Bella could make would yield, at best, a bittersweet happily ever after.

if she chooses Edward, she gets the terrifying Breaking Dawn ending: a girl who rejected her call to grow up has hung her love & her eternity on an emotionally stunted partner who hates himself marginally less than he loves her. she's a teen mom with a kid she never wanted who perpetuates the generational trauma passed down from her parents. by keeping this child, the Cullens have set the stage for an uprising/cold war against the Volturi who are likely to take revenge in order to maintain power. Bella is living in a tenuous "dream come true" wrapped in a nightmare & doesn't realize it.

choosing Jacob is the true coming-of-age ending that rips the stitches out of a wound that never fully healed. even if we ignore the fact that she ends up with a man who sexually assaulted her (we must bear in mind Jacob's character is influenced by smeyer's racism, but it did happen), they can't have a secure romantic relationship. based on the high imprinting rate of the pack, Jacob will likely find his imprint in his lifetime & will lose himself to the imprintee. he will no longer be her Jacob. he will inevitably abandon her (whether he wants to or not), & she must reconcile with the reality that she will always be inadequate to Jacob's imprint. & say he never manages to escape the vampires? he will presumably not age for a long time, meaning the relationship Bella always feared with Edward (her being an old grandmother while he stays forever young) remains a possibility. this is the story of a girl who slaps a Band Aid on an open wound & calls herself healed while flinching every time she sees the shadow of the knife that cut her.

if she chooses neither (team therapy), her healing requires her to lose or be at least partially disconnected from everyone she cares about. Bella must spend the rest of her life shut out from one world while never fully existing in her human world ever again. she must always keep secrets. she can never go back home. even in the unlikely event that she manages to escape the Volturi, the threat of being hunted by vampires will never leave her. in addition, she must face her worst fears (aging, losing Edward) while always keeping in mind the immortal life that could have been hers, if only.

even the "healthiest" option produces scars that will never quite heal.

Twilight is a horror. Twilight is a vampire novel. Twilight is gothic. Twilight is fiction. neither Edward nor Jacob is a "bad" choice because neither will give Bella her happily ever after. the choice between Edward & Jacob is simply a matter of which horror story you prefer to read.
