🏳️🌈Pride Month Day 24: Lesley Gore 🏳️🌈
(Sorry for missing yesterday's post!! Was at a concert lol)
Lesley Gore was a singer and songwriter known for songs like "It's My Party" and "You Don't Own Me." She released her version of "It's My Party" in 1963 while she was still in high school, and the song became a #1 hit. She also composed songs for the 1980 film "Fame" with her brother Michael, for which "Out Here On My Own" won an Academy Award. She released her last album "Ever Since" in 2005, and she passed away in 2015 from lung cancer.
Gore is lauded as one of the first feminist artists, especially in the context of "You Don't Own Own Me" being an anthem for teen girls. She was also a lesbian, which she revealed in an interview with Ellen DeGeneres in 2005. She was a host for the PBS show "In The Life," which focused on LGBTQ+ stories. Gore also co-wrote "My Secret Love" for the film "Grace of My Heart" (1996), which was about a closeted lesbian whose character was inspired by Gore. At the time of her death, she had been with her partner Lois Sasson, a jewelry designer, for 33 years.

Just in time for pride month, I've made a pride remix of the Doctor Who theme featuring lots of queer quotes from the show (but mostly Patrick Troughton saying "Well this is gay!).
Please feel free to reblog and share, the youtube video is below.

Elton John is a songwriter and pianist recognized as one of the most influential figures in pop music. John is known for his showmanship, flamboyant costumes and hits, from "Rocket Man" to "Tiny Dancer" to "Crocodile Rock." He's also known for his contributions to musical theatre and film, especially for his work composing the soundtrack for "The Lion King." John had public relationships with both men and women, and his is currently married to David Furnish as of 2014, the year when same-sex marriage became legal in the UK. Not only has he been vocal about his sexuality, but he also was a driving force in the fight against AIDS.
