This was my favorite picture by far from Komuricon. When I saw Captain America marching down the stairs while boldly holding his pride flag as it billowed from the force of his conviction, I had no choice but to make a mad dash from across the room to ask him if I could take his picture. It was such a powerful image for me. While we were enjoying the Con, the US Senate was working on taking the first step towards providing staturory protections for gay marriage. What better symbol of that moment than this Captain America?
Tumblr media
However, after the events of this weekend, this image inspires me even more now. Where I felt triumph, I now feel heartbreak. While I am at a loss for words in this tragedy, I find myself returning to this image for comfort. (I recently reedited this image. I had originally muted the colors to reflect how I was feeling about the recent Colorado Springs shooting. However, I now realize I need to have a bit of hope to hold on to, so I returned the image to how it first impacted me.)
Tumblr media
I am so grateful that this Captain America was willing to work with me in recreating his original walk down the stairs. I appreciate his patience and willingness to get the shot despite a multitude of distractions.

1. I can't speak for other cultures that were represented in this show (I'm so sorry if your representation was ruined too), but since I'm a South Asian and specifically an Indian and Hindu. I think I have some credibility. Ok, so this may depend on the interpretations of Hinduism that you've grown up with if you're a Hindu reading this. Well, growing up, I was always taught that Chakras were so important. I learned that the GODS could not accomplish something unless they access all their Chakras (again, this is the interpretation I grew up with it might not be the same for you). So the fact that watching Aang just be able to live life without accessing all of his charkas properly was a big slap to the face. Let me just say this right now. If you were representing a culture, especially the culture that you base the entire show on you either do it correctly or you don't do it at all. Don't make it half-baked because that's just disrespecting the people who follow that religion. And you're emphasizing how insignificant their religious values are (mind you Hinduism is one of the oldest religions in the world). What little representation we had was also ruined.
2. I also want to talk about another point since I'm here. I think I've made it very clear that I'm a woman of color. Even though me and Katara Are not the same ethnicity. She was my representation through skin color. And it's so interesting. How even though I knew that she was not my ethnicity, I still grasped onto her as a representation. Now this is not a PSA for studios to say "Hey, let's have a person that is brown, and everyone will be okay with it because they will have a person of the same skin to relate to." No this is me criticizing the lack of diversity in the show. The fact that you can base an entire show on a culture but not be able to handle a main character from that culture. And also I think the reason why I like Zuko and Katara ( I've made this point before) But the amount of respect that they have. As a woman of color, I have not exactly received respect from other men whether that be because of my gender or my skin color. So seeing a woman of color be respected regardless it's just so refreshing to me.
3. Also I want people to be mindful that a lot of people who ship this ship. Are women of color and/or part of the LGBTQIA2S+ community. However, I'm going to talk specifically about women of color since I'm straight. A lot of us have come from countries that have been colonized and still face the repercussions of colonization to this day, so what I'm trying to say is. When woc ship this duo they know what they're doing and they're not doing anything wrong. It's disrespectful to insult them for being racist and misogynistic when in reality a lot of these women face misogyny and racism in their own lives. They understand why they ship this ship. They understand it very well because they able to see and understand what is truly going on.
4. If you have a problem with this post and want to potentially hunt me down. I'm only saying this because I've seen other women of color be harassed for liking Zutara. I need you to remember that I'm a teenager. I'm a kid. I don't think you want to beef with a kid. And no, it does not matter that I'm 18. You shouldn't be harassing anyone over a ship. In fact, accusing shippers of being racist but then being racist to that poc/woc shipper is insane. It kind of shows that those people are not on a moral high horse.
5. I'm a kid......don't even think about it.

Hey, sorry I haven't been doing my daily outfit posts lately-- I guess I never mentioned why I started them, but it's this personal project that I'm working on where I take a picture (though, in all honesty, it's a lot of pictures lol) in whatever I'm wearing and I feature my cane to promote awareness and give representation to other cane users and members of the cpunk and Physically Disabled community. I'm working on building up the courage to take these pictures outside as well, because I do them on campus, but we deserve to see ourselves outside as well!
The reason I haven't been keeping up with it is because my partner and I have really been really struggling financially as well as with our mental health (and me with my physical health as well, obviously lol) we moved across the country to go to school and it is So Hard-- I had to drop three out of five of my classes because the course work was just too much in volume and I need a job really bad (which is going to be Hard to do since we don't even know why I'm in such chronic pain yet 🙃 it's hard not to feel defeated!)
Either way, I think going to start posting them with the tag #TheVainCanes and #MobilityAidVainity but I'm also going to host a poll for some options bc I want this to be a widespread community thing!
I'm choosing these names because I've seen from both ableds and disabled elitists this idea that we and our mobility aides need to look like they're fresh out the hospital for us to be Believed and deserving of respect, and anything beyond that voids our suffering and invalidates our experiences-- and I think that's reductive, harmful, and just plain wrong! Our mobility aides are an extension of ourselves and we deserve to dress them up however we want. We deserve representation, and the normalization of Joy and Having Personality While Disabled.
This will be intersectional as well (bc. I mean look at me. Also I don't need a reason!) , people from all identities are welcomed and encouraged to join! This is meant to be a celebration of Us, Disabled, BIPOC, LGBTQIA2S+, and All That Jazz! (If you use a mobility aid, you're in!) We're beautiful gorgeous handsome devils and I think we'd do good seeing how good we all look in a designated tag
Also my cash app and Venmo are @/cherubpunque 👀 if anyone has some spare change I could have that would be an amazing help towards feeding me, my partner, and our two cats!!
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
To kick things off, I am a 2S, Afroindigenous person (Gullah and Kanien'kehá:ka!) who experiences chronic pain and fatigue. I have PTSD and a few other brain things going on, less than perfect eyesight, and a great passion for Art, Music, Subculture, and Helping Others whenever and however I can! I'm majoring in art and am working towards becoming a published graphic novelist. Idk I just have a lot of love and support to give, and a big need for love and support for myself as well, and I'm hoping to offer us a good opportunity for us to connect in a space that's just for us! We're already living outside of society's expectations for health, so why should we let these folks decide the way we look while doing it? Express yourself! (I'll also be tagging myself in future as #mothie so you can find me in the tags! Anyways, I gotta go lay down. My back hurts.)

Pride night project update: Saturday, April 29th
I've put around two and a half months into this project, and I am beyond proud of the work that I've put into this. As of right now, I have not presented to anyone on the team. For this reason, I will be delaying posting my results, presentation, script, works cited, etc... I look forward to sharing a modified edition once I present and get confirmation (or a lack thereof) for my project.
In short, it's currently in limbo, and I have a lot of thoughts regarding it.
The team owners and management are currently discussing how they want to move forward with their "theme"(1) nights for the upcoming 2023-2024 season. If ownership decides to go forward (2), my manager and game day operations manager want me to present.
To be honest, it's frustrating. I've put 75 hours into this project, on top of work and school, for free. This is something that I'm genuinely passionate about, and as much as I would like to be paid for this, that is the least of my concerns.
One of the biggest risks that I've taken coming forward with this project has been indirectly coming out to many of the higher-ups of the organization (3). Although I have not experienced any discrimination regarding my identity, part of me fears that this may make things awkward in the future.
Not being out to my family also makes things awkward. They don't know about my project, how much I worked on it, and how proud I am of my efforts. I also can't reach out to relatives who work for other teams for connections with teams that had successful pride nights this past season.
I understand that many people think that "politics should stay out of hockey." The rights of millions worldwide shouldn't be politicized (although they are in many places), the rights and livelihood of the LGBTQ+ community are not political. Furthermore, I am aware that some countries have "anti-LGBT propaganda" laws; which include, but are not limited to displaying rainbow flags, and showing general support to the LGBTQIA2S+ community (4). I do not want to risk the safety of a player or their families. However, I do not tolerate homophobia and transphobia at the individual level (5).
My goal for this project is to help create a positive and meaningful pride night that promotes education, inclusivity, and representation of the queer community. I also want to show young fans (who may grow up queer) that they are welcome here and in hockey as a whole.
By showing younger fans that homophobia isn't tolerated at the professional levels, it will hopefully change hockey's homophobia problem from earlier stages of sport development to the top levels of the sport.
Once again, I am beyond grateful for everyone who has contributed. I could not have done it without you. I appreciate all the support that I've received over the past two and a half months. There is still a long way to go with this project, as well as tackling homophobia in hockey. I am always more than happy to discuss my project with those who want to learn more.
💛,
Kyle Carson 🏒🐴🏳️‍🌈
(he/they)
Footnotes:
(1): I understand that pride night is technically a theme night, it feels weird and mildly condescending to put it as "theme." Being LGBTQIA2+ is not a "theme."
(2): I have no idea what they mean by "go forward." They will be having theme nights regardless of what I do.
(3): I'm out to most of my coworkers, and I have had no issues. However, they are not the ones who sign my paychecks, decide who to bring back for the next season, etc. I hope that my project proposal will not impact future employment.
(4): This is a massive over-simplification of these laws. I do not understand the extent of these laws, and how they carry into other jurisdictions (such as an import player playing in North America).
(5): People may come from cultures and/or countries that are often viewed as "traditionally homophobic." People can also learn to be more accepting towards the LGBTQ community and are not constricted to their previous ways. I'm not asking for special treatment over others, I'm asking for equal treatment that I, as well as others, have not received in the past.

The Big Idea: Rob Costello
The Big Idea: Rob Costello I want to thank Ali for the link.   Below is what she wrote about the site.   For those wondering what the 2S in the LGBTQIA2S is two spirit people, which is how the first people called same sex attracted people which I think is grand.  Hugs  Scottie Meanwhile, take a look at this. It’s short, but you’ll appreciate it; representation is…

What legal rights do LGBTQ parent families and people have?
Tumblr media
Lesbian, Gay, and Bisexual News is an important aspect of LGBTQ media that focuses specifically on issues and stories relevant to sexual orientation. With a growing awareness and acceptance of different sexual orientations, it is more important than ever to have a platform that represents and informs about homosexual and bisexual issues and human rights. Some LGB people identify as transgender, and sexual orientation includes trans identities.
Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual News covers a wide range of topics including current events, politics, entertainment, and personal stories. It provides a space for lesbians, gay men, and bisexuals to connect, share experiences, and stay informed about issues that affect them that are not discussed in mainstream LGBTQ+ media.
One of the main goals of Lesbian, Gay, and Bisexual News is to promote visibility and representation of various topics in mainstream media. By highlighting the issues and struggles of LGB individuals, this platform helps to break down stereotypes and misconceptions about the LGBTQ community and activism, some of which are very controversial.
In addition, Lesbian, Gay, and Bisexual News serves as a resource for homosexual and bisexual people looking for support, community, and information. It also focuses on issues related to youth who identify as LGBTQIA2S or queer. It provides a platform for organizations, events, and discussions for those who want to promote human rights work and connect with like-minded individuals.
Overall, Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual News plays a crucial role in raising awareness, promoting acceptance, and empowering lesbian women, gay men, and bisexual people. It is a valuable resource for anyone interested in LGBTQ issues and a vital part of the media landscape. Stay informed and connected with the news, stories, and controversies in the lesbian, gay, and bisexual community by following Lesbian, Gay, and Bisexual News.
In recent years, LGBTQ parents, families, and youth, and more children and teens identifying as trans or nonbinary have become more visible and accepted in society. More youth are also socially and medically transitioning due to the affirmative care model. This is an issue because some adult gay and lesbian people, like trans people, had childhood gender dysphoria. More people are discussing gender dysphoria and gender fluidity with various pronouns to go along with these identities. More parents are coming out as trans and nonbinary and there is almost no research in this area. Families come in all shapes and sizes, including two dads and two moms. Despite facing discrimination and challenges, it is diverse families and peowhothat show the love that truly makes a family. Still, there are also issues about youth health, parental rights, and activism in education that are causing conflict for LGBTQ people. This has caused some controversies in schools regarding progress flags and rainbow flags, SOGI education, and GSA clubs. With the legalization of same-sex marriage and adoption rights for LGBTQ individuals, more and more couples are choosing to start families and raise children, more youth are coming out, and it is necessary to integrate these issues into education and society. This is not a left versus right issue.
One of the biggest misconceptions about same-sex couple-parent families is the idea that children raised in these households will be at a disadvantage. However, research has shown that children raised by gay and lesbian couples are just as happy, healthy, and well-adjusted as children raised by heterosexual parents. Some studies have shown that gay and lesbian parents are often more attentive and involved in their children's lives. In addition, gay, lesbian, and bisexual parents usually face unique challenges when it comes to legal rights and protections for their families. Advocacy and activism are key in ensuring that LGBTQ issues are addressed honestly and same-sex couple-parent families have the same rights and privileges as their heterosexual counterparts.
Another important aspect of LGBTQ news, politics, health, and identities is the importance of accurate representation of the issues rather than propaganda. Seeing LGBTQ issues around diversity, equity, and inclusion in the media, society, and everyday life helps to normalize gay, lesbian, and bisexual people and inform them of what is going on.
Overall, most LGBTQ people, parents, youth, and families are people just trying to live their lives and be a diverse part of our society. We can celebrate and support these populations and create a more inclusive and accepting world for all by honestly addressing issues that may be complicated to find solutions. Whether you are a member of the LGBTQ community, a family member, a friend, or an ally, it's important to show your support for reporting on LGBTQ topics and work towards a more equal and safe society for all individuals, families, and young people. Cancelled Shows
Probably one of the most frustrating things for me about The Wilds being cancelled on Amazon is that it’s obvious. Looking between reviews on season one and season two, there’s a difference of three thousand plus. Even if there’s the whiny baby “woke bs” one star reviews, clearly the rest are more supportive of the show overall, as regardless of the significant difference in reviews, The Wilds maintains a four star rating on both seasons. I went and made a review on season two. I don’t believe I made one for season one. But I expressed my genuine disappointment in The Wilds fandom for being aggressively hateful to the actors involved with the show, as if it is somehow their fault the show’s cancelled or for how the show decided to write things. The actors were simply doing their jobs and being decent human beings on the outside as well, they don’t deserve the hate. I wasn’t thrilled with how the story on the boys’ side was written by any means, but I was fully aware the boys would have to be more heavily involved this season but knew that the girls’ would still be a major part, even if it didn’t seem like it. That was a major part for Gretchen’s experiment, to compare the two groups, so it made complete sense to me that we saw more of the boys for now.
I hate that people who loved First Kill on Netflix won’t ever get a satisfying ending, unless Netflix lets the rights go to someone else. I know the issue with First Kill is Netflix being more abhorrently obvious about their hatred for POC and LGBTQIA2+ people being front and center and not about views. I had First Kill on my watch list, no I still haven’t had a chance to watch yet, but I could see every time I got on Netflix over the last month or two that FK was out, that the views on it were extremely high. I’m not positive, but I’m pretty sure the only way to review Netflix stuff is to simply thumbs up or thumbs down (and strongly thumbs up or down) a film or tv show. Wise, since they know if they had a review section too, they’d be accosted in there as well. Not that it’s not deserved, but just from their standpoint, they’re eliminating a way for people to express their anger and disappointment.
I typically stay out of discourse on these things. I’m incredibly used to shows I love being cancelled. Not to mention shows that have wlw characters and couples being cancelled. I’ve learned to treasure what I can when I can and just try to review or express my disappoint on the cancellation to the company and leave it at that. But really it’s another surge of “bury your gays” in a different way, and that’s by cancelling the shows entirely and leaving the rights to gather dust, even when folks clamor for the show to return. I’ve signed the petition going around for The Wilds and I strongly suggest people do so if they want their voices heard, if they haven’t already. The turmoil here is beyond frustrating and heartbreaking and I just had to express it here.
If anyone wants to talk, I’d be happy to be here. I’m also not a good enough writer to bring any fanfiction to life but I’m so enjoying the stuff I read on Ao3 for the Wilds stuff. #leatinlives

love how queer love is celebrated in media but as soon as an actual queer person expresses attraction for someone they’re seen as “predatory” and “inappropriate.”
queer attraction is not gross or wrong in ANY way. it is beautiful and wonderful and deserves to be respected just as much as cishet attraction/relationships. if you’re only an ally to queer love when it is fictional, you are not an ally.

"i kind of hate pride flags" finally someone said it... i feel that way lately too
Yeah, I think it's maybe a more common sentiment than one would suppose from the way the rainbow is plastered all over everything these days. If I'm being honest, I've never really liked the rainbow (and all its varients) all that much -- it's never really resonated with me as a symbol. I have nothing against people who like it, but it's never really done much for me. I also think we need to reckon with the fact that, as a symbol, the rainbow flag has been entirely co-opted by capital, the state, and other forces of normalization to such an extent that any radical potential it may have had in the past (and even that, I think, was minimal) has been completely neutralized. Additionally, all the squabbles that take place within the LGBTQIA2S+ community over these flags and representation needs to be reconsidered within that context. To me, these conflicts smack of the commodification of identity and the reproduction of its logic. As baedan explains: “Identities must be produced — produced as commodities and for commodities. Identification, that is, the process of re-creationism, is what produces these identities. Inherent in this production is a certain form of anti-identification that opposes itself to stable, essential, static and, ultimately, old-fashioned identity-forms in order to compel the production and marketing of new ones. Each new identity is a new tower to which consumers can flock to escape the passé nature of the old ones. Eventually — that is, soon and very soon — there will have to be a tower for each person (“You know, there could be as many genders as there are people…”), in fact many more, and the scale of such production far surpasses the limits of the old workplaces. The Fordist production line can make multiple, identical products, but today each new identity must have the air of the unique. The ‘creative’ labor of identity production is thus displaced from the old workplaces. By social imperative and desire, the individual is put to work, unpaid, to create new identities ‘for himself.’ (Reproductive work — whether baby-making, class struggle, or Facebook — is always unpaid.)” The creation of ever more specific flags or symbols of identity that can then immediately get plastered onto all kinds of cheap products to be bought and sold to queers looking for some kind of inclusion seems like the logical outcome of this tendency. Personally, I’d rather burn it all (capitalism, the state, the logic of identity, consumerism, the fordist production line, etc.) to the ground than reproduce it endlessly. But that’s just me.
