Top five silent witness episodes 👀

omg this was so hard and cruel to do to me wow

1. in a lonely place - sad jack backstory, beautiful scenery, compelling case, them being tender with each other. yes.

2. true love waits - just a great case and the first time (of soooo many) we see jack physically protecting nikki.

3. river’s edge - another great case and one i think about often. what i wouldn’t give for them to bring schrader back. let me write it!!

4. lift up your hearts - one of the most devastating they’ve ever done. it’s delivered in such a beautiful and gutting way. it’s one i haven’t stopped thinking about even more than five years later

5. bad love - ICONIC. the case is great, i love meredith. i love frank the wank. i love n&j being a little iconic duo and getting used to adam together. the whole scene about jack being “a decent specimen” NICOLA 🗣️ you have a boyfriend girl What are you doing.

all of these skew older because of the nostalgia factor and i’ve rewatched them more than more recent episodes but i would like to give a shoutout to s24 as a whole because it’s my comfort season and i could just fill the top five with those five eps. anyway.

No More Zero Comments Project

Hi! Here's a big masterpost for everything you need to know about this project!

The No More Zero Comments (NM0C) Project is dedicated to reducing the number of fics on AO3 with no comments. This is a multifandom community effort with very few rules which you can very easily undertake alone, but hey, why not join us?

The goal is simple: find fics with no comments, read them and leave the author a comment. If you want, you can go out and find fics on your own, but we also have a handy spreadsheet full of fics for you to browse!

You can find the spreadsheet here. There are tonnes of different fandoms to choose from. It will be updated regularly with new fics, so check back as often as you like.

Do you have a fic with zero comments? You can submit it here to be added to the spreadsheet. There is no limit to how many you can submit, and no limits on what you can submit. Any fandom, any category, any rating, no matter how old it is. Yes, even explicit fics. We aren't picky around here. You can also submit other people's fics if you wish.

All I ask is, if you submit your own fics, try and comment on some too! Balance, equality, etc.

The only real rule for submissions is no AI. This blog is vehemently anti-AI and will not accept any fics that use it. EDIT 16/06/25: There are now two more rules - no Harry Potter fics (fuck jkr) and no fics less than a week old.

If you read a fic from the spreadsheet, please let me know here so I can remove the fic from the spreadsheet. If you see a fic on the spreadsheet that has a comment, don't fret. I'll get around to removing it soon. Admin's timezone is GMT and I'm most active in the evenings.

Who runs this blog?

That'd be me, Izak, better known as @lightningzombie! I run this blog alone for now. And yes, I did put my own fics into the spreadsheet. I put it up to a vote and people said I could!

Why did you decide to do this?

Frustration with the lack of comments on my fics and the death of comment culture in general. Bewilderment when I saw a fic that had 1200 kudos and no comments. The joy that leaving 100 comments and receiving 20+ during the Febuwhump commentfest brought me. Boredom. Many reasons!

Is there a prize/competition?

Nope! No incentives whatsoever. Just the joy of fan fiction, of commenting, and community spirit.

Will you do events?

Yes, I plan to! I'm not sure what yet, though.

"I don't know how to comment!"

Yes, you do. "I like this" is a comment. "How dare you do that to [insert blorbo here]" is a comment. "<3" is a comment. "KAJSDAKSDHJ WHYYYYY????" is a comment. "I am rapidly approaching your location" is a comment. Just be kind!

How long will it take me to get a comment?

Dunno. Some people get them within minutes, some hours, some days. Depends on many things. Be patient!

I submitted something but it hasn't been added or removed

I run this blog and the spreadsheet completely alone and manually. Any submissions will be handled as and when i have time. Be patient with me, I'll get to it!

Casting the Actors

EDIT: Owain was cast first as he had a pre-existing contract with Warner Bros where he would work soley for them. Then Tim and Amanda were cast.

When Robin was asked to portray Lisbon, she didn't have to do any screen tests!

ADDED: There were originally 5 or 6 actors in the running to play Patrick Jane. Two included Robert Downey Jr and David Schwimmer! The project was almost shelved until the studio started talks with Simon and the rest was history!

Robin was cast but did not sign a contract until they cast Simon at the last minute.

Robin and Simon had met through the Australian Friend Network years before they were cast in the show.

Episode Secrets

The scene where Jane tells the talk show hosts about Red John was trimmed down for time but the full version is on the S1 boxset.

The CBI Director in the original pilot was Indian or Native American and was going to be called RJ.

Simon marked up the pilot script with potential ideas for Bruno which Bruno then ended up using!

Simon says that in a few scenes he has a slightly red face as he was so embarrassed with saying some of Jane's cocky lines!

EDIT: The scene where the cast ate at the restaurant put them off eating lobster for life according to Amanda and Owain as they had to do so many takes where they ate the seafood! Owain ate 5-6 cold lobsters and said it was disgusting!

Reception

CBS called the pilot episode 'a wonderful mixture of light and dark' and 'great chemistry between Baker and Tunney'.

The focus group who watched the rough cut deemed Jisbon to be a 'possible steamy couple'.

When the pilot was re-aired on the Saturday after its original premiere, CBS omitted the final scene where Jane smiles under the RJ smile as they thought it was too dark.

Names

Patrick Jane was originally going to be called Thomas or Daniel Jane.

Kimball Cho was originally going to be called Kendall.

EDIT: Wayne Rigsby was originally going to be called Wayne Gilzean. According to Owain, Wayne Gilzean was named after a striker from the 1966 England World Cup Squad.

Grace Van Pelt was originally going to be called Melody Van Pelt.

It all started with a gunshot wound. Izo knew, he had only himself to blame. He shouldn’t have assumed, that the guy – a man known for many betrayals and shitty tricks – wouldn’t bring a gun to a swordfight. But he did. And he used it. And Izo’s goddamn luck the guy turned out to be as good at shooting, as he was in swordfighting – not at all. That was probably the only reason, why Izo emerged from the battle victorious, save for a couple of scrapes and a bullet lodged in his left hip. That was fine. He could deal with it. Not the first time he got shot, not the last time.

Hello. Three good things

1. I've started the process of getting my own flat despite being absolutely terrified of the concept
