I just had to dust this account, because I feel like this is very important. So, let me transcribe a convo I had with my mom about the upcoming "Lilo & Stitch" Live Action:

Me: Remember the huge argument there where some time ago about The Little Mermaid Live Action?

She: Yeah.

Me: I feel like there will be a new one.

She: Why?

Me: There will be a Lilo & Stitch Live action.

She: So?

Me: Remember Nani?

Her eyes grew big.

She: Don't tell me she's blonde now.

Me: Well, not blonde. But her skin tone is way lighter than the original.

She rolled her eyes.

She: And that is not realistic for that country, right?

I raised an eyebrow, because THAT is the point I am trying to make.

Me: Let me remind you Nicole Kidman is Hawaiian.

Boy, her eyes grew bigger. You see, I've seen many complaints about her skin tone, and bringing back Halle Bailey and The Little Mermaid again. And you know what? This is so stupid.

I hadn't seen TLM yet, so I cannot talk about her acting abilities, but Halle has an amazing, special voice. Sadly, that got buried under a bunch of people who couldn´t see beyond her skin tone and terrible CGI.

If you want to talk about Sydney, know first that she is Hawaiian. She was born there. She was raised in that culture.

I deeply regret not fully supporting Halle Bailey at the moment. But now, If Sydney Agudong will ever read this, this is a message for her:

Girl, you will do amazing. Last CGI Disney movies had a questionable quality, and they ended up relying on their main actors. Halle shut people down with her voice, you will do so through your acting.

Congrats on being chosen as the best big sis in the history of animation!

This is why I’m so annoying when it comes to colorism in the media especially one so obvious:

People get on my ass and say shit like “at least X is Y or A is doing B!” when clearly whoever is the casting director for this current remake clearly do not care for the damage they are doing to the point is becoming almost irreversible. They really want to make a point that dark skinned people can only be enough drawn to a certain extent for fantasy situations or when it comes to being a replaced placeholder but not when it comes to being hired for said roles as real life individuals. Gotta keep that representation at bay.

Eliminating the existence of Mr. Bubbles for example is terrible simply because as a character, while he is a POC/black man and can somewhat understand the struggles of the Kanaka natives, he still works for the American government and perpetuates it’s agenda which clashes with our characters’ beliefs.

Washing away a character’s darkness, which already is so limited in the media, is so damaging. Not to mention the actor for David has been caught using the N word (the discovery of it is actually a really funny story).

It’s so important to call out obvious racism/colorism. I mean look at this casting; it just looks like they used the brown paper bag method to hire these individuals. It’s unfortunate that calling out though is not enough. I’m gonna need people to NOT watch this movie when it comes out. Not even pirated. We really need this movie to NOT make any noise whatsoever if we even want to make a statement by trying to dent Disney’s pockets. But also don’t watch it out of respect. Respect for the animators that wanted to tell a story and are currently being disrespected because Disney here is running out of ideas and is scared to lose more money. Out of respect for the little representation that dark skinned POC/native Hawai’ians. Stream the hell out of the animated movie(s) and it’s series.

We really need to hammer the point that this is NOT okay.

Brainstorming for the Stitch event in my fanfic and I think I just came up with something brilliant that I wanna challenge more artists to try.

So we know that Lilia and Floyd kinda parallel Lilo and Stitch and that's why Stitch gets along with them so well right? Y'know who also parallel's Lilo in the event via the outifts??

Oh yeah and who's the other two people that Stitch hangs around and gives a sweet fluffy hug? Grim and MC/Yuu. Just try to convince me that there isn't a better parallel between MC/Yuu and Nani I dare you to change my mind. The signs are all there.

SO! I'm challenging all Twst artists to draw their Yuusona in Nani inspired outfits, whether it's her swimsuit above or any of her other outfits from the movies/tv shows! The world needs more Nani love <3 Tag the artists that you want to try my challenge :)

Propaganda for Nani 💚; Is 19 years old and instantly has to become responsible for her very clearly autistic little sister after her parents sudden death, on top of finding a job that will support the two of them and constantly dealing with CPS trying to take Lilo away. Keep in mind, she's literally nineteen and literally doing the best she can. Was hesitant about accepting Stitch into the family, but later warms up to him and seems to play a motherly role to him as well.

Propaganda for Morticia 💚; Total goth icon, best example of a mom having a personality outside of being a mom. Very supportive, encouraging, and absolutely adores her children. Literally beaming with pride for them at every moment, would fuck anyone up that tried to harm them and to top is up is a very loving wife to her husband.
