★ 148 // “Tux Paint”
#jojo's bizarre adventure#jjba#steel ball run#sbr#johnny joestar#offerings#tools used:#tux paint#// Yeeeeah buddy TWO offerings today!#I think one of my siblings had a Linux computer growing up and Tux Paint was installed on it because the interface felt familiar#Can't say I've drawn extensively in this program though. Lot of surprisingly decent brushes and features in it though!#It's nice to mess around with a new digital toolbox#I really cannot help myself making starry neon and sparkly ass Johnnys!!!#This was a ice excuse to try out different colors and shading. I'm a big fan of low neon lighting where skin appears pinkish in hue.

kinda funny how most programmers would prefer to not have to touch apple products with a ten-foot pole but if you talk to basically any designer over like 25 they'll swear up and down and backwards to friday that nothing could ever hold a candle to any apple product
#part of this is probably tied into the adobe suite/creative cloud being made mostly just for apple. for some reason.#so it doesn't work as well on windows and the app versions for android are pitiable#idek if you can use it on linux at all#i'm a designer btw but I'm definitely in the programmer camp#smh adobe get your freaking ACT TOGETHER I DON'T EVEN LIKE PHOTOSHOP BUT I'D SURE LIKE IT A LOT MORE IF IT WORKED ON MY COMPUTER#you're telling me I can render 3D modeling in maya just fine but I can't use the blur tool in photoshop without it crashing????#what kind of sick joke.....#apple v windows v linux#computer os#computers#programming#designers#adobe creative cloud

I thought mint was supposed to work out of the box :/
Also why is everyone's solution to fix wifi not working to run a command to download a program. There Is A Fundament Obstical To This Plan
#Pire.txt#It's also possible I fucked something up in the install process#Tomorrow or whenever I'll try completely wiping the system and starting over?#I skipped drivers installation which I thought I could do after os#But everyone also seems to agree that 'Linux doesn't really use drivers'#And therefore no one wants to explain how to install the ones I have sitting in the desktop folder#So maybe that needs to be done to the bios first#Linux has to use drivers there's a drivers manager tool that comes preinstalled#But- and you won't believe this-#It needs an internet connection to be utilized properly

I keep seeing ppl talk about using Linux b/c it doesn't work against you and while I understand this with how fucked Windows is, everything I researched says I'd pry have some fights with Linux cause the drawing programs I use and am comfortable with don't work well with it, or at least I've seen ppk talk about a lot of annoying inconveniences and trouble getting them working properly consistently
#meat.txt#like I really dont think any of the linux recommendations come from ppl who use the art programs I do#or from ppl that want to continue to use them at least#and like sure drawing is less of my process now with blender being added#but I still use clip studio and paint tool SAI for texturing and for editing my blender renders#theyre important parts of my process

my dad has been a linux nerd for as long as i can remember, and for as long as i can remember he has had all sorts of problems with it, mainly relating to wanting to tinker something but not fully understanding how ([/glances at my 8 consecutive brickings of mass effect] surely that's not hereditary or anything), so i was sort of braced for it to be A Process. but... and, not to quote todd howard or anything, but... it... just works? like protondb said all of my games could be made to run with custom proton or dxvk or whatever (some of which I'd already been using to spoof win10 games on 7), but the ones I've tried so far haven't needed any tinkering, they just... go right on? wack.
anyway i'm a linux convert now i guess
#this has been a post#chi's adventures in real life#minthy's rgb fans even work! baby had rgb-compatible fans but i didn't care enough to figure out how to hook them up#and i was sure i'd need drivers that wouldn't be compatible w linux for this one but the motherboard just handles it!#i am going to vm win7 though so i can keep using photoshop & my various modding tools since krita is Unusable and wine renders fonts weird#anyway tl;dr don't let tech companies fool you. planned obsolescence is avoidable open-source works just great and diy isn't as hard as it#eems. this has been soapbox hour with victoria once again

the funny thing about the whole "The hardest part of moving from Windows to Linux is just that software you use won't run on Linux" also exists if you try to move from Linux to a BSD.

A noninsignificant portion of my day is now spent fighting for my life in Linux and being fed unhelpful answers by tech support that refuse to give any actual comprehensive training on the cluster. What is it about Linux that makes people lose all empathy I stg.
#like I get the questions are probably annoying but why would you go into a tech support job then#idk like I feel like most other professionals are way more patient and compassionate about their tools?#in regards to ppl trying to use them or showing enthusiasm#the Linux community just feels like a dick measuring contest sometimes

in my research for what the hell Linux is in an effort to switch to it, I've watched a few "What your distro says about you" knowing that they're only partly joking probably.
Anyway I'm waiting for "Mint: you're scared of the command line but you're more scared of windows recall"
#Pire.txt#If it's not blatantly obvious that's me#I'm scared of the command line but more scared of windows recall#Anyway if anyone has Linux (specifically mint cinnamon) tips I probably haven't heard yet I welcome some advice#Or pointers to tools that mark me as today's lucky 10k#I'm gonna do it scared but by god am I going to do it#I already have it downloaded onto a flash drive#Which took more than one try already so I'm sure that bodes well for me#I'm already using Firefox and libreoffice#And discord and steam and minecraft is supposed to be supported#So I should be good on the programs I use#And I'm keeping the windows 10 on my laptop for troubleshooting until it dies completely and totally
