You'd Have to Stop the World...
11.5k words, FWB Eddie X afab!reader, 18+ Explicit Content - MDNI, use of "baby" as a nickname, no use of y/n, little to no description of reader, set in Hawkins 1990 so everyone's aged up accordingly, no mention of upside down - could sorta be canon if you pretend vecna was defeated and eddie never got attacked by the bats but reader wouldn't know it ever existed. * fair amount of smut in this especially the beginning - it's a fwb plot so... but yes, there is plot. lots of angst and some fluff*
a/n: most of my ideas are usually inspired by a song - the concept for this came entirely through a playlist I made, so l added the track list! Feedback is greatly appreciated! Thanks for reading and as always, I hope you enjoy! xo, scarlet 💋
Struggling through a dry spell, an ideas comes to you when your attractive friend Eddie vents about his recent disappointing hookups. What starts as casual fun gradually complicates as physical and emotional boundaries begin to blur.
“I keep recalling things we never did / Messy top lip kiss / How I long for our trysts / Without ever touching his skin / How can I be guilty as sin?”
A few years ago, you met Eddie Munson, thanks to an introduction from your then coworkers, Robin and Steve. What began as a casual acquaintance in a larger group quickly evolved into a genuine friendship.
But as with many great friendships, a new romance - this time with Matt - changed the dynamics. As your relationship with Matt grew, so did the distance between you and Eddie. Matt didn’t like him, his dislike fueled by a few key grievances: he accused Eddie of overcharging for weed, could barely tolerate Eddie’s metal music - and was visibly irritated by the number of times you dragged him to Eddie’s shows. Yet, beneath it all, Matt’s discomfort had a more personal edge. He was convinced there was something more to your friendship, despite your insistence on its platonic nature.
“Okay, sure, whatever you say,” Matt insisted, his tone dripping with frustration. “But I’m telling you, he definitely wants to fuck you.”
Matt’s reasoning included:
• “He never makes you pay for weed.”
⁃ Ah, the classic move of the charming drug dealer - Robin and Steve are also lucky recipients of Eddie's personal stash. Generosity? Sure. A sign of deeper feelings? Unlikely.
• “He flirts with you.”
⁃ Eddie flirts with everyone. This isn’t a private act of seduction - it’s his default setting. And sure, before you dated Matt maybe you’d indulge in Eddie’s flirty nature but it was just all in good fun.
• "He call's you - Baby."
⁃ The nickname was not some romantic gesture, Eddie's just a menace. It all started after a shift at Family Video, you and Robin went back to Steve's house. Eddie made an entrance, a blunt was passed, and you started rambling about the ridiculousness of the name "Baby" in Dirty Dancing. "You know, it's funny you hate it because 'Baby' suits you perfectly," Eddie quipped. You shot him a look of annoyance, but Eddie, with that trademark grin, decided it was a keeper and has called you it ever since.
• “The way he fucking looks at you.”
⁃ This is where the plot thickens. While the other signs are easily explained, you didn't quite see what Matt was ever referring to.
Yet, every time Matt voiced his theories, your mind couldn’t help but drift to thoughts of Eddie in bed. He had quite the reputation as a good fuck and it was undeniable that he was incredibly attractive. But the guilt of entertaining these thoughts, especially while with Matt, was crushing. So, you shoved them aside.
In December of '89, Matt accepted a job that meant relocating out of state. By then, your relationship had lost its spark, of course, except for the one area where it still managed to flicker - the bedroom. You both knew it was time to let go, the idea of a long distance romance wasn't practical when the only thing holding you together required physical proximity you would no longer share.
Despite it being the obvious choice - the end of nearly two years together was tough, but as the saying goes, when one door closes, another opens. With Matt no longer in the picture, your calendar quickly filled with late nights and laughter, surrounded by Robin, Steve, Eddie, and your ever expanding social circle. It was the start of a new era, as you entered the new decade.
"These fatal fantasies / Giving way to labored breath / Taking all of me / We've already done it in my head / If it's make believe / Why does it feel like a vow / We'll both uphold somehow?"
Four months into being single, and the dry spell was becoming a cruel joke. Every date you'd been on had left much to be desired, as none of them ever ended with you on your back. Ultimately a waste of your time.
It was an added frustration to be out with Eddie and watch him glide from one partner to the next with such ease. You even found yourself feeling a bit envious of his conquests, because the more time you began spending with him, the more you understood why Matt had his suspicions.
On quite a few occasions, you caught Eddie's gaze lingering on you. The stolen glances and charged looks sent your heart racing. Gone were the days of pushing these thoughts away. Now, you found yourself indulging in them, late at night, hand between your thighs, wondering if the fantasies might ever become reality.
“Don’t play dumb, I know you fantasize. You could have me on my back every night.”
One night, after having your friends over for dinner, Eddie decided to stay and chill after Robin and Steve had left. He sprawled on your couch, legs draped over the coffee table, grumbling about the monotony of his recent casual encounters and the lack of sexual chemistry he'd been experiencing.
Eddie looked at you, cutting himself off mid rant, his fingers deftly rolling a blunt. "It's cool if I smoke in here, right? Or d'ya want me to go on the balcony?"
You hesitated for a moment before nodding. "I don't usually love it, but why not for tonight?"
With a grin, Eddie continued on his ranting as he finished rolling. Lighting the blunt and taking a long drag when he finished his complaint.
"Okay, but bad sex is more often than not, still enjoyable," you said, in response to his last comment.
Eddie held out the blunt offering you to take a hit and while normally you’re pretty weary to cross fade, you were feeling adventurous as you grabbed it from his fingers taking a hit.
"I get what you're saying, but nothing's been like, mind-blowing. I was getting head the other day, and I was literally counting the minutes until it was over. I think it would've been more enjoyable if I'd just taken care of myself."
You let out a laugh, the smoke escaping in a light cloud. "You think counting maybe prolonged the experience a bit, bud?" Passing the blunt back to Eddie.
"No, baby, the counting's what got me there." He smirked before taking another hit.
You rolled your eyes playfully, but his words sparked thoughts of your own dissatisfaction.
The two of you sat there listening to the soft sounds of The Cure album you had on, as you took turns with the blunt. Eddie's gaze didn't leave you, his eyes focused on your lips - the movements of your mouth. The subtle way your lips parted and closed around the blunt had him entranced.
You were too lost in your own thoughts to notice his staring. "I think this is one of those grass is greener situations. l'd take the bad sex. There's only so much I can satisfy myself, and sometimes I- well, I just want to get railed." The words slipped out before you could fully think them through but as soon as they did, you felt a rush of heat flood your cheeks.
Eddie's eyes widened slightly, a blush of his own creeping onto his face as he exhaled smoke. "Oh sure." You'd always been open about discussing sex, but this was a new level of candor for you and it caught him by surprise. It also made his cock twitch.
You weren't sure what it was - the alcohol, the pot, the adrenaline from your embarrassment, - but Eddie's complaints mixed with your own dissatisfaction sparked an idea. You set your wine glass down, turned to face him, and criss-crossed your legs on the couch.
Passing what was left of the blunt back, you asked the question that's been on your mind for weeks.
”Eddie… are you attracted to me?" you asked, trying to keep your voice steady despite the flutter in your chest.
"What?" He asked as he put the blunt out.
"Eddie," you pressed.
He chuckled, the sound a bit shaky. "Everyone thinks you're pretty, you know that."
"That's not what I asked," you countered. "I'm asking if you think I'm like, hot - not just pretty."
A smirk played on Eddie's lips as his eyes scanned over your figure, nodding. “Yeah, you’re hot,” he said, taking a sip of his beer and letting his eyes linger on how the soft fabric of your clothes hugged your chest. Truth be told, he thought you were fucking heaven sent.
"So why haven't you made a move? I've been single for months."
"You know me, baby. No attachments. Couldn't have you falling in love with me."
You scoffed. "Really, that's your excuse?"
His gaze met yours, a touch of defensiveness in his eyes. "It's not an excuse. It's just how I am. I don't hook up with friends, it can get messy."
"Got it," you replied, considering letting it go, but curiosity had taken hold. "Do you ever fantasize about them, though?”
A wry smile appeared on his lips. "Depends on the friend, I guess.”
"Cut the shit, Munson.”
His smile grew. "Alright, yeah. A lot more than I probably should have.”
You leaned in closer, your voice dropping to an intimate whisper. "If it's any consolation, I've fantasized about you a fair bit too.”
"Oh, yeah?" he breathed, his voice huskier than before.
"Mmm-hmm." You shook your head slowly, maintaining eye contact. You noticed the way Eddie's eyes darted down to your lips and then back up to your eyes.
"What about?" he asked.
"I could tell you," you whispered, "or I could show you.”
Eddie's laughter was shaky as he looked away, running his hand through his hair. "Tempting," he whispered, leaning back and trying to create some distance. His arousal, however, was unmistakable.
The room fell silent. You could see the inner conflict in his eyes: the struggle between desire and his self imposed boundaries. The sight of Eddie's hard cock straining against his jeans had your pulse quickening more than the conversation had. You felt yourself growing wet, the heat between your thighs demanding attention.
"So even though it's clear we both want this, you're willing to just let it go because of some vague principle?" you asked, frustration tinging your voice.
Eddie's expression grew serious. "I wouldn't want to complicate our friendship just to get off.”
"And if I promised you it wouldn't complicate anything, that nothing would have to change - it would just be a good time?”
His breath hitched at your words, his eyes soaking in your presence. "Then... maybe I’d rethink some things."
You sighed, acknowledging his hesitation but also feeling the urgency of your own desire whether Eddie joined you or not.
“Well, you think about that,” you said, standing up and heading toward your bedroom. “You’re welcome to join me if you decide you’re in. If you decide to leave, the spare key is by the door. Just lock up and I’ll get it next time.” You closed the door behind you
Eddie sat on the couch contemplating for all of 5 minutes before his decision was made. Of course he wasn't going to let this moment pass him by. He stood up, his mind racing as he walked toward your room.
When Eddie opened the door, he found you lying in bed, bathed in the amber glow of your lamp, only in your panties. You were lost in your own pleasure, hand moving beneath the fabric, eyes closed tight as breathy moans escaped your lips.
"Fuck," Eddie muttered under his breath, his gaze locked on the scene before him. He froze, taking in every detail. The gentle, desperate movements of your fingers, the soft sway of your breasts, and the way your lips formed an O with every soft whimper. He was mesmerized.
He moved closer, cautious not to disrupt the moment. You whispered his name, soft and needy. "Eddie..."
The sound of your voice, so vulnerable and inviting, was nearly enough to push him over the edge. He groaned, a deep, guttural sound that came from the very core of his being. As he stood at the end of the bed, your eyes fluttered open, taking in his presence.
You kept your eyes locked on him, focusing on his face, the way his gaze was fixed on you.
Looking at you like this, made him feel as if he was witnessing the eighth wonder of the world. "What are you thinking of?" Eddie asked, needing to understand what was driving you.
"That this is your hand instead of mine, just like l've been imagining for weeks," you admitted, voice trembling slightly.
Eddie's breath hitched. "Can I see all of you?" he asked, desperation lacing his voice as he sat on the edge of the bed.
You nodded, slowly sliding your panties down your legs and tossing them aside, revealing your glistening cunt. You returned your hand, teasing yourself gently. Eddie's eyes were fixed on you, the sight almost too much for him to bear, a low whimper escaping his lips.
"How would you touch me, if it were your fingers?" you asked, voice a seductive whisper.
Eddie slid up from his spot on the edge of the bed, closer to your side, as he began directing you on how he would pleasure you, eyes glued to your movements. "I'd start by gently tracing my fingers, just like you are now."
You whimpered as he continued his instructions, caught between the fantasy he was describing and the reality of your own touch. His guidance was driving you wild, but the need for his direct touch was growing unbearable. Breathlessly, you said, "Eddie, please."
“Tell me what you need,” he rasped, his eyes locked on yours.
“Touch me,” you pleaded.
Eddie knew what you meant; you wanted him to replace your fingers - but he needed to kiss you and at the vague request for his touch he couldn't help but use that as his cue. He leaned in, his body hovering over yours, cupping your cheek and pulling you into a kiss. The kiss was rough, and raw as if years of restrained longing were unleashed in that heated moment. His lips were demanding, his tongue wrestled with yours, the taste of beer mixing with moscato. You bit his lip and Eddie’s groan was deep.
His free hand found its way to your thigh, gripping it tightly, driving you further into your own touch. The intensity of his actions only heightened your pleasure. You gasped into his mouth as your climax hit. Eddie’s grip on your thigh never letting up as you clung to him, struggling to steady yourself through your orgasm.
As the waves began to subside, you whispered raggedly, “I need you.”
Eddie trailed his hand from your thigh to your cunt, only for you to stop his hand. “No. I need more, I need you inside of me. Now.”
Eddie groaned at your desperate plea for him to fill you. Without a word, he began undressing. His breathing was labored as he quickly removed his shirt, tossing it aside. He fumbled with his jeans, eager and clumsy in his haste to free his hard cock. When he finally did, you let out an audible gasp, taking in the sight of him. He was so fucking perfect.
“How do you want it, baby?” He asked, eager to give you anything you’d ask for.
“What have you fantasized about?”
Eddie hesitated, “We don’t have to -”
“Tell me,” you demanded.
“You, um, you’ve got great tits,” he all about moaned. “I think about you riding me a lot.”
The words were barely out of his mouth before you pushed him back to lean against the pillows, a sly smile on your lips. You reached for a condom from the nightstand, tearing open the wrapper with a quick, practiced motion, and rolled it over his throbbing cock. Eddie’s eyes followed your every move, sighing at your touch.
With a deep, steadying breath, you positioned yourself above him. Your hands rested on the headboard while his hands gripped your thighs, his fingers digging in as he watched you. Slowly, you began to lower yourself, the initial contact making both of you gasp. The incredible stretch of his cock stung as you lowered yourself down inch by inch. It was almost overwhelming, but so perfectly pleasurable. Eddie’s eyes widened, his breath coming in quick, ragged bursts.
“Fuck,” he said through gritted teeth. His hands tightened on your thighs, reminding you just how much he wants this.
You continued to sink down, savoring the sensation of being filled. Once fully seated, you paused to adjust, getting accustomed to his size. Eddie wasn’t the longest you’d ever had, but by no means was he small. Close to 7 inches if you had to guess. He was however, the thickest not by an absurd amount but enough to notice the  difference. He felt phenomenal.
You began to move, lifting yourself slightly before sinking back down. The room began filling with the sound of your mingled moans. As you established a steady rhythm, Eddie’s moans grew more frequent, his grip sure to leave bruises. “Fuuuuuck,” he repeated, his voice rough with pleasure.
You shifted from leaning forward to putting your full weight on him, arching your back slightly as you moved your hands from the headboard to behind you, resting them on his thighs. In this position, you had better control and began to increase your pace.
“Aghh - just like that,” Eddie groaned. “Show me how much you want it." Eddie’s eyes were locked on you, taking in every detail - the bounce of your breasts, the flush on your cheeks, the intense pleasure on your face. You looked stunning.
He moved his hands to your breasts, groaning as he squeezed them gently. He adjusted himself so he was sitting up, his hands moving to roam over the rest of your body as he began kissing your skin. He started at your collarbone and moved along your chest until he reached your left breast. Kissing and nipping at the soft skin before enveloping your nipple into his mouth and sucking gently. You shuddered at the added stimulation, moving to rest your hands on his shoulder for better stability as he moved his mouth to your right nipple.
You were finding it hard to keep quiet, biting your lip to stifle your moans as the combination of his mouth and the fullness of his cock drove you closer to ecstasy.
Eddie, however, was having none of that. Removing his mouth from you chest, “Don’t hold back," he rasped. "Let the whole fucking building know how good it feels to have my cock inside you.”
You let yourself moan freely, the sounds echoing in the room as you quickened your pace.
"Ooooohhh god,” you cried out as your orgasm began to build.
You swirled your hips, adding a tantalizing motion that made Eddie mumble curses of pleasure. His hands moved to your hips, gripping firmly as he reclined against the pillows. You leaned forward with him, placing your arms on his chest for support as you rode him with increased intensity.
“Such a good girl,” Eddie said in awe, his eyes locked on you as you chased your orgasm. The praise spurred you on, and you let out a loud cry. Eddie’s lips curled into a wry smile as he watched you, clearly enjoying the effect his words had on you.
“You like that, huh?” he teased, his voice dripping with satisfaction.
You whimpered a feeble “yes,” your voice barely audible as you tried to keep up with the intense pleasure.
“Thought you might,” he chuckled. “Be the good girl that you are and cum for me,” Eddie instructed.
That was all it took. Your hips began to falter as your orgasm ripped through you, sending your body into a shuddering climax. Eddie’s groans of satisfaction grew louder as he watched you come undone on top of him. He gripped your hips tightly, taking over control and thrusting into you with a fierce rhythm, pushing you seamlessly into another orgasm.
As you came down, your body collapsed against Eddie's, still trembling from the aftermath of your third orgasm. Tears gathered at the corners of your eyes, the intensity of the pleasure overwhelming you. Eddie, sensing your exhaustion, slowed his thrusts, his hands gently tangling in your hair as he lifted your face to look at him.
“Shit Eds” you whispered, your voice barely audible. “I don’t know if I can come again.”
Eddie’s lips curled into a mischievous smile, his eyes gleaming with determination. “Sure you can, baby. You haven’t even gotten what you wanted yet,” he said, pressing a soft kiss to your cheek before repositioning you both.
The sudden loss of him inside you made you whimper, the emptiness leaving you desperate to be filled again. Eddie lifted you, placing you on your knees, and then knelt behind you. His hands took hold of your hips, and he lined himself up with your entrance before thrusting into you with a forceful, deep motion. The immediate fullness made you moan, the new position allowing him to penetrate you more deeply and hit your g-spot perfectly with every thrust.
“Fuck, oh fuck,” you cried out, your voice raw with pleasure as he continued to thrust into you with a relentless rhythm.
“This is what you wanted, right baby? To get railed?” Eddie asked, his voice a deep, gravelly whisper. His hands squeezed the flesh of your ass as he drove into you.
“Yes!” you cried out. “Please Eddie, harder,” tears streaming down your face.  He responded by pounding into you just as you asked.
Leaning forward, Eddie kissed the skin along your back, his teeth grazing your flesh with gentle bites, adding another layer of sensation. Your hands gripped the sheets tightly, knuckles white from the strain, as desperate cries of pleasure fell from your lips. His left hand slipped between your legs, fingers finding your clit and rubbing it frantically.
“Fuck, fuck, fuck, don’t stop,” you moaned, your voice trembling with need. Eddie’s fingers worked your clit with determined precision, the added stimulation making it clear you were about to lose it.
As the pleasure built to its peak, you screamed his name, your body shaking uncontrollably as you came. Eddie’s grip on you tightened, his thrusts never faltering as he felt you clenching around him.
“There it is,” he moaned, his voice filled with satisfaction as he felt you coming undone. Your mascara ran down your cheeks in streaks, merging with your tears as you reached the height of your pleasure. Eddie continued to pound into you as your orgasm subsided, savoring the way you responded to him.
He was relentless, driven by his own need to reach his climax. He removed his hand from your clit,  gripping your hips firmly as he thrusted into you with increased force. “I want you to cum with me,” he growled.
You cried out, your voice filled with desperation. "I-I ahhh..." Your words were swallowed by your moans as Eddie kept thrusting.
"You can do it," he encouraged, his voice low and steady. "I know you can."
Eddie's thrusts grew more intense, his rhythm never faltering as he drove you toward another climax. His hands gripped your hips tighter, his own breath coming in ragged bursts as he neared his release.
"Atta girl," Eddie growled. His thrusts grew sloppy, driven by the raw intensity of the moment. You clenched around him, surrendering to the pleasure as euphoria washed over you. The sensation was all -consuming, a final, powerful climax that left you gasping.
Eddie's own climax hit hard. He let out a string of moans, his body shuddering as it hit. His thrusts became erratic, his grip on your ass tightening as he rode out his release.
Eddie collapsed beside you, both of you breathing heavily, basking in the afterglow. The intensity of the night had left you feeling dizzy and euphoric, your body still tingling from multiple orgasms - five mind blowing orgasms, to be exact. The most you’d ever had with a partner before was three - and while still sensational it was nothing compared to this. Making it clear that Eddie Munson was the best fuck you’ve ever had.
As you started to come down, you glanced over at Eddie. He was staring at the ceiling, his face a mix of disbelief and deep thought. "Eddie, what's going on in that pretty head of yours?"
"Can I level with you?" he asked, his voice serious.
"Of course," you replied.
"It's pretty obvious that what we just had was too good to be a one-off," he said, his eyes meeting yours. "And it's not going to be easy to just go back like this never happened. I mean, I can't just pretend I don't know you've got a praise kink." He teased.
"Eddie!" You laughed, giving him a playful nudge.
"I'm only half kidding. I clocked that shit when I tried to teach you guitar, this just confirmed it," he admitted with a grin.
You rolled your eyes, a smirk on your lips. “So, what's your point?"
He shifted, propping himself up on one elbow and looking at you seriously. “If you can handle keeping it casual, I think we should do this again.”
“Fucking hell, Munson didn't we address this on the couch? I wanted to fuck you, I'm not in love."
Eddie laughed. “Right, I know. But sometimes it can lead to that, and I just want to make sure you understand if we continue to hook up it will never be anything but physical. I can never offer you more, is that clear?"
You grinned. “Crystal."
"So, friends with benefits?” He asked.
You nodded, a smile tugging at your lips as your eyes locked with his.
"It's a Sexually Explicit Kind of Love Affair"
Two months had passed since you and Eddie established your friends-with-benefits arrangement, and you had both adhered to a set of rules: open communication, no exclusivity, and keeping things private. Your frequent hookups had become a thrilling part of your routine, each encounter more intense than the last, and quite a few that were unforgettable.
Fucked You in the Bathroom When We Went to Dinner:  The two of you went to dinner with your friends to celebrate Vicky’s birthday. Amid the celebrations, you and Eddie shared knowing glances across the table and when the opportunity arose, you both slipped away, heading towards the restaurant's bathroom.
As soon as the door closed behind you, Eddie's hands were on you, pulling you close. He pressed your back against the wall, as his lips found yours in a rough kiss. His mouth began trailing along your jaw as you you reached down to unbuckle his belt. Eddie's pants were down around his knees, his hands hiking your dress up, growling when he saw you had no panties on. You lifted your leg, resting it on the sink, back still pressed to the wall as Eddie wasted no time before guiding himself into you. Your hands immediately threading through his hair as he sunk in.
Eddie's thrusts were urgent and desperate. "Fuck, can’t get enough of you," Eddie gasped, his breath hot against your neck.
You could only respond with a series of breathless moans. The pleasure building rapidly as Eddie's movements grew more intense. His hands gripped your hips firmly,  holding you in place as he drove into you.
Your climax was approaching quickly, and you couldn't help but let out shrieks of pleasure. Eddie's hand reluctantly coming to cover your mouth to stifle the sounds. He loved hearing you, but not here.
“Shh, baby. I know." He whispered feeling you beginning to clench around him. You bit the palm of his hand to stop the scream that was desperate to escape you as your climax hit. His thrusts growing erratic as he came with you, burying his face in your neck, his breaths coming in ragged gasps.
As you both caught your breath, you quickly adjusted your clothes, and you fixed Eddie's hair. You walked out first heading back to the table. Eddie arrived a few minutes later, drink in his hand as if he had been at bar the whole time, a satisfied smirk on his lips as he sat down.
Knee Deep in the Passenger Seat: It'd been a lively evening out at the bar playing pool with Chrissy, Eddie and his bandmates. You were keenly aware of the effect your outfit was having on Eddie as you'd chosen a particularly short skirt that barely covered your lacy black panties if you moved too much. So each time you bent over to take a shot, your underwear was tantalizingly visible.
As you lined up for another shot, Eddie approached, leaning in close.  To any onlookers it would seem like he was giving you a tip to make your shot. "You're such a fucking tease," he murmured, his breath warm against your ear.
You turned your head slightly, catching his eye with a sly grin. "I know, but you love it," you whispered back.
Eddie's gaze was fixed on you as he walked back to his spot against the wall. As you knelt over the table to take your shot, a smirk tugged at your lips knowing he was clearly struggling to focus on anything other than the view you were providing.
If Eddie could have had his way, he would have sunk to his knees right there and ate you out while you were bent over that pool table. But patience is a virtue.
As you turned to face him after landing your shot, you knew he was trying to maintain his composure.
When it was time to leave, Eddie offered to take you home.  "Chris, I’ve got her. I pass her apartment on my way home anyway.” While that was true, you knew that wasn't his plan.
As you walked out, Eddie's eyes never left you, his gaze focused on the way your hips swayed with each step. When you reached the van, he opened the passenger door for you and you slid into the seat, feeling his intense gaze on you.
As you settled in your seat, you looked at Eddie who was still standing next to you. A sly grin pulling at his lips, as he stepped in. You were confused until he knelt down on the floor in front of you, shutting the door. His expression one of eagerness.
With his hands now gripping your thighs, he pushed your skirt up, his fingers brushing against your skin. "I've been wanting to taste you all fucking night," he hummed, his voice low and filled with need.
You looked down at him, a teasing smirk on your lips. "Aw look at you, did I tease you so much that you can't even wait?"
Eddie’s big doe eyes, looked a lot less innocent in this position, darkening at your words. Hunger written all over his face.
In an instant he pulled your panties to the side, leaning forward so his head was nestled between your thighs. His tongue making contact with your bare slit, with a tantalizing slow lick. You gasped at the feeling. Eddie moaned against your pussy, "You taste so goddamn good,” his voice vibrating through your core.
The moment his tongue touched your clit, he was relentless, alternating between licking and sucking. Your eyes rolling in the back of your head as he savored you.
Within just a few short minutes you were a moaning mess, hands tangled in his hair, breath ragged, eyes screwed tight as you could feel yourself on the brink of your orgasm. Then suddenly, Eddie pulled away. Your release immediately ripped away from you.
His face flushed and glistening with your essence, looked up at you with a smirk. “Look at that, I can be just as much of a tease as you," he rasped.
You whined at the loss of contact. "Please, Eddie.”
“You’ll have to wait, baby.” He said, readjusting your underwear and skirt, wiping his mouth as he dipped out of the van and walked to the drivers side.
Truth be told, this was just as upsetting for him as it was for you. You were intoxicating and if he was being honest he’d love nothing more than to continue to devour your sweet cunt until you came all over his tongue - multiple times. But he thought it only fair that you feel the same strain that he had all night. He’d make it worth the wait when he got you to his trailer.
You're on your knees, I'm on the case: You had the day off, so what better way than to spend it in Eddie's bed. When you arrived at his trailer, he answered the door shirtless, wearing only boxers with a towel draped over his shoulder.
"I'm about to shower," Eddie said, ushering you inside and closing the door behind you. "I'll be out soon. Feel free to watch TV, the remote's on the table."
As Eddie went to shower, you settled on his couch, finishing up the episode of Seinfeld that was on. After about ten minutes, you began to get restless.
You could hear the shower running, steam cascading into the hall because Eddie didn't shut the door completely. You made your way to the bathroom, knocking on the door to let him know you were there as you walked in.
"Be out in a second, just gotta rinse my hair."
"Mind if I join ya instead?"
There was a brief pause before he responded, a hint of amusement in his voice. "Sure, come on in."
You quickly undressed and slipped into the shower the steam enveloping you. You were facing Eddie as the water was cascading down his hair. Some droplets hitting your body, as Eddie glanced over you with a grin.
You gave him a playful smirk before immediately dropping to your knees, positioning yourself in front of his hardening cock. Eddie's eyes locked onto you, filled with anticipation.
Without hesitation, you took him into your mouth, the warmth of the water mingling with the heat of your breath. Eddie's response was immediate. His breath hitched, at the feeling. "Ahhh," he grunted, his voice thick with pleasure.
You began to move, sliding your lips up and down his length with practiced ease. Eddie's hands gripped the shower bar for support, his fingers tightening as he struggled to maintain his composure.
"Holy Shit," he gasped, his voice strained with pleasure. "You're so good, that feels so fucking good."
You continued your rhythm, your mouth and tongue working him expertly. Eddie's groans grew louder, the pleasure clearly overwhelming him. "Oh god, yes," he panted, his hips thrusting gently to match your movements.
The water continued to cascade around you both, mingling with the sounds of Eddie's pleasure as you pushed him closer to the edge. "Don't stop, baby" he urged, his voice breaking. "I'm gonna cum."
With a final, deep stroke, Eddie came hard. You kept your mouth on him, sucking every drop as he moaned and gasped, his hands gripping the shower wall for dear life bracing himself.
His face was flushed, a mix of steam and sweat glistening on his skin. He looked down at you with awe and satisfaction. "You're fucking amazing," he said, his voice barely a whisper.
You stood up, and Eddie cupped your face, capturing your lips in a heated kiss. As your mouths moved together ,his cock began hardening again, ready for round two in his room.
"I know, "Baby, No Attachment!"
As the months passed the frequency of your encounters with Eddie had evolved beyond merely getting off. At first you considered that it was just your friendship deepening, but as time went on, you couldn't help but feel that these interactions between you were teetering the line of something more.
Eddie's band practices had effortlessly blended into your weekly routine. “Want to come to practice again?” he’d ask, flashing a grin. The first time he invited you, you joked about whether he had a fantasy of hooking up in Gareth’s garage or something. Eddie only laughed and said, “Nah, I just figured you might enjoy hearing us play and I thought it’d be nice to have you there.” Of course you went, and enjoyed every second of it, maybe even more than the shows. Seeing Eddie perform offstage, goof around with his bandmates, and brainstorm new arrangements was incredibly fun to witness.
By the third week into attending practice, Eddie offered another invitation. “Want to come with me to visit Wayne this Sunday?” he asked one afternoon. You hadn’t seen Wayne since he left Eddie the trailer, and although the invite surprised you, you agreed. Wayne’s warm hospitality was a delight, and seeing Eddie with his uncle gave you a new insight into his life - it felt special he shared it with you.
You began noticing more changes in your own habits. Instead of going to social events alone, you often opted to ride with Eddie. Your weekend hookups had bloomed into near everyday occurrences, leading you to spend a lot more time at his trailer, as it offered much more privacy than your apartment - Eddie and you were rather loud. Eddie's loud anyway, but when he's inside you he doesn't shut up. Always talking you through it, telling you how good you're making him feel and he loves hearing what he does to you, so you never hold back.
On more than a few occasions you’d accidentally fallen asleep over there, and eventually Eddie just began inviting you to stay the night in the first place. Gradually, your personal items like a toothbrush, a few changes of clothes, and your favorite books made their way over. You were there so often that it was shifting from a convenient arrangement to something that felt more like a shared space.
The boundaries you’d set were being tested, and it was becoming harder to maintain the pretense that this was purely physical. The line between attraction and emotional connection was blurring, and although Eddie had always insisted that this arrangement was meant to stay casual, his actions seemed to contradict that. In those soft moments with him, at practice or Wayne's, or when you were lying in his bed wrapped up in his arms after another incredible fuck, you found yourself dreaming of more and every time you did you'd think back to Matt's insistence that there was something between you and Eddie. Back then you thought it was Matt's jealously, eventually giving way that it was underlying attraction but now like this you can't help but think maybe there has always been more simmering between you both.
You didn't dare say it though, you wanted to remain the “chill girl” who didn’t push. But the more time that passed the more you felt caught between holding your tongue and addressing the growing complexity of the situation.
"It's fine, it's cool, you can say that we're nothing but you know the truth."
The summer heat was beginning to wane as you and Eddie arrived at Steve’s Labor Day party.
You were enjoying yourself, chatting with Nancy when you overheard a conversation nearby. Eddie was talking to Chrissy, who had just referred to you and he as a couple.
“Oh, no, we’re not together,” Eddie said, a dismissive edge in his voice as he responded. The words hit you like a slap. You knew what you had signed up for, but it still stung, especially when the lines had been blurring for months.
You attempted to shake it off, focusing on the friends around you. However, as the evening wore on, the frustration you felt was hard to ignore. Eddie’s behavior had been increasingly confusing. And this comment felt like the final straw - if your friends could see it, why couldn't he?
When the party ended, Eddie drove you back to his trailer with Metallica blasting through the speakers. The music did little to ease the anger you were feeling.
Once inside the trailer, Eddie reached out his hands gripping your waist, as his lips found yours. The kiss felt good, almost intoxicating, but your anger quickly reclaimed its hold as the words "we're not together" echoed in your mind.
You pulled back, needing a moment to regain your composure. Eddie’s eyes searched yours, confusion in his gaze. “What’s wrong, baby?” he asked softly.
"I'm not really feeling it right now,” you said firmly, pulling away from his touch. "I think I'm going to head home actually."
Eddie’s face fell for a moment before a small smile played at his lips. "You don't need to go, stay the night. We can watch a movie."
A few months ago, this invitation would have felt like a friendly gesture. After all, the beauty of a ‘friends with benefits’ arrangement is that it starts with a foundation of friendship. But tonight it was just a bitter reminder of how these nights have morphed into something much more complex. At the start of your arrangement, movie nights often transitioned from watching the film to fucking until the credits rolled. This felt natural, expected. But now the dynamic of movie nights has grown significantly more intimate; cuddling on the couch, Eddie softly playing with your hair, and gentle kisses between scenes. All gestures that are only typical in, well - relationships. You've had enough.
"Eddie, are you being avoidant or are you truly oblivious to what's going on?"
Eddie’s brow furrowed. “Wait, what? What are you talking about?"
"Us. This," you said, gesturing between the two of you. "It feels different, and it has for a while now." You took a deep breath, struggling to steady your voice. "Eddie, even our friends notice it."
"This is about Chrissy's comment?" he asked, annoyance seeping into his voice.
"You were so quick to dismiss it."
"We're not a couple, so that probably has something to do with it," he said, with a laugh, his irritation evident. "What was I supposed to say?"
You gave him a short nod, as you began to gather your things. "It's not even about what you said, it's about what you're not saying."
The frustration was evident on Eddie's face. "I thought we were both on the same page about this," he said, following you.
"Dammit, Eddie," you turned towards him, your voice rising. "We were, but it’s hard to feel like we’re still casual when my favorite bra lives in your dresser!"
Eddie’s expression shifted, a flicker of guilt crossing his face, but he still held his ground. "From the start, I told you I don’t do relationships. I never promised you anything more than what we agreed on."
You scoffed. “I know, and that’s exactly why I’ve kept my mouth shut for so long. But you’ve pulled me into every aspect of your life, and it’s not the same anymore. If you weren’t so hung up on that concept, maybe you’d admit what you’re feeling.”
“Don’t," he said sternly. "Don't try and make me out to be the bad guy because you couldn't keep your own feelings in check.”
His words felt like a punch in your gut. You could feel the lump take perch in throat, trying to swallow it back but the tears were coming.
Eddie’s expression softened as he noticed your your eyes glistening. He watched helplessly as you continued to pack, his frustration morphing into anguish as tears streamed down your face. "Wait,” he pleaded. "Let's talk, we can take a step back."
Your hands shook as you stuffed your clothes into your bag, sobs coming in ragged, painful gasps. “A step? We'd have to take twenty." you choked out, your voice breaking.
Eddie looked away, struggling to reconcile your pain with his own fears. "I just, I'm sorry I confused you. I didn’t mean to give you the wrong idea."
"Maybe you didn't intend for things to change, but they did. We both let them. I did because I liked it, why did you Eddie?"
His stomach twisted at your words.
“Every rule we set, you broke," you continued, bitterness lacing your voice. "It was all ‘let’s keep it discreet’ until you kissed me between songs at practice. What the fuck was that?! ‘We need open communication,’ but you never talked about any line we crossed." Your voice rose despite your sobs. "For fucks's sake Eddie, we haven't been exclusive yet for six months, you’ve called after me! Going as far as turning down others because you want me in your bed. Whether we fuck or we don't."
Eddie stood still, motionless, as the weight of your words sunk in.
"You can try to downplay this all you want, but deep down you know. And it's why your past hookups could never satisfy you the way I do.” Tears streamed down your face as you glared at Eddie.
He just stood there, hit with the reality of your words. The silence grew heavy as he struggled to find a response.
"I don't know what you want me to say. I can’t just flip a switch and become something I’m not. I made my stance clear from the beginning." His voice wavering as he spoke.
You shook your head in disappointment. "Got it." Your tears fell harder, and Eddie’s own eyes were on the verge of tears as he watched you zip up your bag.
“Baby,” he started, his voice trembling as he reached out a hand towards you.
“Don’t, Eddie,” you scolded, your voice a harsh whisper. “You don't wanna call it love, fine. But it's done."
Eddie’s face twisted in confusion and frustration as you finished speaking. He seemed to get only a fraction of what you were saying. "Okay, okay," he said, his voice cracking with desperation. "We'll just go back to how it was before. I mean, we can just forget about all this..."
"You're not getting it, Eds" you replied, your voice steady despite the tears. "I can’t be your friend.”
Eddie’s face contorted with panic. "No, don’t say that," he pleaded, his voice trembling. "I’m sorry I led you on. We can go back - just like it was. We can fix this." Tears welling up as he tries to grasp what you're saying.
"Eddie, it wasn't just that. This whole thing between us has made me realize that maybe… maybe I had feelings for you long before we hooked up."
Eddie's face pales, his panic escalating as he tries to comprehend what you're saying. "What the fuck is happening right now?" he says, his voice rising in distress. He collapses onto the couch, his body shaking as the gravity of the situation hits him full force.
"Before we, before this, you said you didn't," he mutters, almost to himself, as he tries to reconcile your words with his memories.
"I didn’t realize it then," you admit, your voice breaking.
Eddie’s face was wet with his own tears now, his hands trembling as he held his face, taking in your words.
"I never would’ve let anyone else call me a nickname I hated. Anyone else’s persistence would’ve been stopped but it just sounded so pretty coming from your mouth..." Your voice was choked with emotion. “And I think being honest with myself about that, along with everything we’ve been doing... I've realized that maybe I was  being a fool to think it was ever just attraction."
Eddie breaks down, his tears flowing freely. "Goddammit" he chokes out, his voice thick with regret.  “I can't-"
You cut him off knowing what he was going to say. "I know Eds, you've made it clear," your voiced cracked sobs breaking through the words. "You were right to worry this would get messy, I'm sorry I told you I could handle it." You took a deep breath and looked at him one last time, the ache in your chest almost unbearable. You slung your bag over your shoulder, heading for the door.  "I'd probably do it again though." You whispered.
"I don't want to lose you,” he said, his voice wavering as he tried to hold back his emotions.
You paused, your heart aching with the weight of his words. "I have to go," you said finally. With one final glance at Eddie, you turned and walked out of the trailer.
“You just need a better life than this / You need somethin' I can never give”
Eddie’s tears fell uncontrollably as you left.  Watching you walk away was like a rift tearing through time and space, an unbearable ache that pierced his soul.
His mind spiraled in a loop, like a broken record that kept repeating the same line: It was a mistake. He knew better, he knew better than to get involved with you, but he had, and now you were gone. Eddie had wanted to believe that you could handle something casual, he risked it because he had an insatiable hunger that only you had satiated. His own denial ran so deep he hadn’t even fully accepted the magnitude of what was happening between the two of you until your words hit him like a freight train tonight. But as Eddie sat there, drenched in regret, his mind wandered to all things you.
Eddie had always been branded the freak for being a little outside the box, and while he stayed true to himself it was always a bit toned down when he met new people. However when he met you, he knew he didn't have to do that.  While you could fit neatly into the box, you didn't care to. Eddie was instantly captivated by you, and it wasn't just because you were stunning - it was your wit, and charm that pulled him in.
He could never forget the first day he realized he wanted to kiss you. It was one of the early times you hung out - that night you were complaining about "Dirty Dancing." You just kept rambling - so comically irritated, he found it hilarious and he wanted to just shut you up with his lips. He couldn't help himself coining, "Baby" for you. It had felt right rolling off his tongue, and even though you shot him an annoyed look, he could’ve sworn he saw a hint of a smile. Eddie then proceeded to try and get you to reenact the lift scene from the movie, but you refused with a firm “Fuck no, Munson.” Robin wouldn't either, but Steve, high as a kite, agreed. Of course it ended with them flat on the floor and the four of you laughing your asses off. For whatever reason that night marked a turning point for your friendship - the two of you began spending time together outside of your shared circle. It was always a little touchy, a little flirty and Eddie was constantly having to push the urge to kiss you outside of his mind.
Steve was always trying to persuade Eddie to just go for it, but Eddie wasn’t interested. He typically only hooked up with the same person three times - if ever more than once. He feared that if he ever got involved with you he wouldn’t be able to go back, and commitment was something he wasn't into. Fast forward three years and nothing's changed. Still, one night around two years ago he nearly let his guard down.
A group of you had gathered at a nearby bar before Corroded Coffin’s first paid show at The Hideout.
“Let me buy a round for you guys, a little liquid courage before tonight!" you insisted. Gareth joked that it wasn't necessary when they had Eddie's good luck charm - You. “Is that why you keep me around, Munson?” you teased, planting a playful kiss on his cheek. “For a little extra luck,” you said with a wink and a smile before heading to the bar. In that moment, Eddie was certain he had to kiss you.
When you returned with a round of tequila shots, your cheeks flushed and your smile bright, you explained that the handsome guy at the bar; Matt - asked you out and then proceeded to buy the round of shots for you when you'd said yes.
As Jeff raised his shot and toasted, "To Matt!" Eddie looked at you, realizing that it was better this way. It would have been foolish to kiss you. You deserved someone who could offer you more.
Eddie’s mind whirled, jumping from that almost kiss to the fateful night on your couch. He should've went home because from that moment everything changed. You were sensational, the way your body responded to him, the way you sounded, the way you made him feel. He was right to know himself, that after a taste, he would never want to go without. He was selfish for this.
The past 6 months together Eddie had recognized little shifts, but he'd ignored them. Looking back it was probably June when things first began to change from the raw thrill of a good time to something that hinted at a little more intimacy. Your presence had turned his bed into a sacred oasis, where he felt truly seen and understood. The laughter, the warmth, the touch - it was all part of a connection he cherished. Yet, every time it felt like it was too much, he would push it out his head, trying to drown out the truth that he felt something more. Even if he wanted to risk all for you, he couldn’t. He wasn’t good enough to make you his.
This painful realization was a truth he had to face. His fear of inadequacy and his belief that he couldn’t sustain a meaningful relationship had driven a wedge between you. And now, with you gone, he was left grappling with the reality that he had pushed away the one person who had made him question his own defenses. Sitting on his couch, a headache pounding from his tears, he tried to sleep, searching for some sort of peace.
In the weeks that followed, Eddie rarely visited his bedroom. It was a space tainted by your absence. His home felt hollow, so he picked up extra shifts at the diner, and crashed at Gareth’s when he could. He thought about reaching out to you, admitting you were right, that he loved you too, but he knew it wouldn’t change a fucking thing. He still couldn’t give you what you wanted. He wasn’t ready for a relationship, not when he didn’t believe he was enough.
You deserved the best, and Eddie didn’t think he was that. He was still  a pot dealer,  bussing tables to make ends meet and for some free food, just dreaming of a future with his band...
Eddie had been so absorbed in the band that he had drifted from the usual social circle. The only time he’d seen Steve and Robin since your departure was after one of his show the last weekend in September. They had approached him, and Eddie, looking weary and regretful, had apologized for not being around much. He wanted desperately to ask about you - God, he did - but he struggled to find the right words.
When Steve and Robin happened to mention they hadn’t heard from you either, Eddie’s heart sank. You were probably avoiding them, likely to keep from running into him. Steve, with a knowing look, asked if the two of you had gotten involved. Eddie gave a brief, vague answer that painted a picture of your arrangement without exposing too much.
“Maybe try reaching out to her though.” He suggested.
Robin nodded solemnly. “Of course,” she replied, understanding the complexity of the situation without needing more.
The days blurred into weeks as Eddie threw himself into his band, trying to escape the gnawing emptiness and the haunting memory of you. Each gig was an  escape, but it never lasted. The real struggle was coming home to an empty space, a home without the one person who had made everything feel right.
“Back when we were still changin' for the better / Wanting was enough / For me, it was enough"
It was the kind of night that makes you want to crawl into bed and pull the covers over your head, except you weren’t in bed. You were behind the wheel of your car, heading home after leaving the man that you loved.
As the tears flowed freely, your mind drifted to the most serious relationships you’d had. Your college boyfriend, your relationship with Matt - both seemed like mere practice compared to what you shared with Eddie. He wasn’t just the best fuck you’d ever had, he was the best person you’d ever known. The thought of never being around him again was agonizing.
Returning to your apartment felt like a warm welcome from an old friend. You had spent nearly all of August entwined in Eddie’s bedsheets, living for the hope that maybe, just maybe, you could have a future together. You uncorked a fresh bottle of Riesling, not even bothering with a glass as you tried to drown out the fact that Eddie was never truly yours.
Weeks after leaving Eddie, the silence was deafening. The ache of not hearing from him, of not knowing how he was, ate at you incessantly. You knew that this was your choice, yet you'd expected some sign - any sign - that he was still there, still thinking of you.
You threw yourself into work, hoping that staying busy would numb the pain. But this came at a price - you isolated yourself from your friends, avoided their calls, and shut yourself off from the world that might remind you of Eddie. When Robin buzzed your intercom one evening, her arrival was a welcome disruption to your self-imposed exile. She stood at your door with pizza and ice cream in hand, a silent understanding in her eyes.
"Hey," she said softly, a warm smile breaking through her concern. "I thought you could use some company."
You invited her in, your heart heavy as you tried to muster a smile. You sat in your living room, as you finally let your emotions spill out.
Between sobs, you managed to ask, "How is he?"
Robin took a deep breath, clearly choosing her words carefully. "He hasn't been around either, but Steve and I saw him last weekend, he's been busy with the band. They're doing really well - they’re working hard to catch the eye of an A&R rep to help develop them. When we told him we hadn’t heard from you, he briefly explained why that might be, and not that I wouldn't have anyway - but he was one that suggested this."
He had thought of you. That was enough to make you break down again. Robin wrapped her arms around you.
“It’s okay," she whispered.
Robin comforted you the rest of the night. Reassuring you that in time it will get better. As Robin was on her way out you told her that while you missed everyone it was just too hard right now, and you needed more time.
She nodded, understanding. "We’ll be here whenever you’re ready."
As she left, you felt hope amidst the sadness. But even with that hope, you found it difficult to move forward. You almost mustered the courage to attend Jonathan and Nancy’s Halloween party, but after getting dressed, you couldn’t bring yourself to go. A week later, you had plans for lunch with Steve and Chrissy but the nausea of confronting your emotions kept you from following through. It was still too soon to be around the people who reminded you of Eddie, so you stayed away, in your cocoon of sorrow, hoping that someday the pain would ease enough to allow you to step back into your life.
“And from the outside / It looks like you're tryin' lives on / I miss the old ways / You didn't have to change/ But I guess I don't have a say / Now that we don't talk"
It was the second week of November, and you’d decided to go out for drinks with some colleagues. You were at a bar you’d never been to before, located on the other side of town - quite far from the usual spots you and your friends frequented. With the slim chance of running into anyone you knew, you let your guard down and enjoyed the evening.
You were so engrossed in your conversation that you almost missed it. At first, you thought you’d imagined it, but then you heard it again. Your stomach dropped, and a wave of heat washed over you as you recognized Eddie’s unmistakable voice. Looking around, it was Gareth you spotted first, and as you looked for Eddie, your heart sank. He looked drastically different - his once long hair was now a buzz cut, cigarette hanging out of his mouth, while dressed in a navy striped button-down. His signature leather jacket draped over the back of his chair the only remnant of the man you remembered.
Despite your attempts to refocus on your colleagues, your attention kept drifting back to Eddie and the band. They were celebrating with a round of shots, and you wondered if they were marking a milestone. Since the round of drinks you’d suggested for their first paid gig, you knew they had a tradition of celebrating this way. Your heart sank as you overheard Eddie’s toast: the local station had agreed to start playing their music, and they were promised a small tour around neighboring states in the new year.
Watching the band’s journey over the past three years -  early gigs at house shows to paid gigs at dive bars - you knew you had to say something, not just to Eddie but to all of them. You were proud of their progress, and after witnessing their hard work at countless practices this year, it felt right to acknowledge their accomplishments. You couldn't deny that it almost felt kismet, that you were here tonight.
As your coworkers began wrapping up their night, you excused yourself. You made your way over to the band’s table, your heart racing. As you approached their table, Gareth’s eyes lit up as he saw you.
“Well, look who it is!” Gareth exclaimed.
Eddie turned, his smile dropped as he took in your presence.
“Of all the gin joints, you walk into the one I’m in?” you joked, attempting to ease the awkwardness. The band chuckled, and you continued, “I couldn’t help but overhear you guys. I just wanted to come over and say congratulations. I know how hard you’ve all worked.”
The band echoed their gratitude before Gareth suggested you join them. A sudden, overwhelming discomfort gripped you. This was a mistake. Every lingering feeling you had for Eddie was rushing back, and you found yourself struggling to maintain composure. "Oh thank you, but I need to get home” you say, attempting to mask the unease. “But I’m really happy for you all.”
As you start to walk away, Eddie rose from his seat. “Baby, wait" he called out.
There it was, the nickname only he called you. The one you'd been aching to hear.
You stopped, turning slightly to face him as he reached you. "I um, just wanted to say, thanks for that. I really appreciated you coming to to the table.”
"Of course." you say softly.
His eyes roam over your figure as he takes in the way your dress fits, and a low, almost involuntary groan escapes him. “Wow, that dress, you.. you look incredible."
You give him a thankful nod. It hurt you to hear him say that, knowing you'd bought this dress months ago solely with the intention of him taking it off.
"Me? Look at you, you look so.... I don't know. Refined, maybe?"
Eddie raises an eyebrow. “Is that good or…?”
"Oh y'know you always look good," you reply, trying to keep your voice steady. "But I’d be lying if said the hair didn’t shock me a bit at first,” you admit.
Eddie’s eyes soften, and he responds with a chuckle. “It’s weird for me, still. I haven’t had a buzz cut since middle school. But I just needed... a change.” His words hit you harder than expected, and you feel tears prickling at the corners of your eyes.
You nod, unable to hide your emotion.
He smiles, though it’s tinged with sadness. “I want you to know I thought about reaching out but I wasn't sure...." he trailed off.
You nodded again, acknowledging the sentiment, a small smile on your lips as you try to swallow the lump forming in your throat. “I really should go, but I am truly so proud of you, Eddie,” you said, your voice wavering. “Ever since I met you, I’ve seen how hard you’ve worked for what you want and I'm so happy that it's paying off."
The words seemed to break something in him. Instinctively he reached out, wrapping his arms around you, pulling you against his chest. “I’ve missed you,” he breathed into your hair.
You hugged him tightly, tears rolling down your cheeks. “I’ve missed you too,” you whispered back, feeling the warmth and comfort of his embrace. For a moment, it felt like time had stopped, and you wished you could stay there forever. But as much as you wanted to linger, you knew you had to go. You slowly pulled away, forcing a smile through the tears. “I'm really glad I got to see you,” you said softly.
Eddie looks at you, his gaze lingering as if he’s on the verge of saying something more, but he simply nods. “Me too,” he says quietly.
“And I’d give up forever to touch you / ‘cause I know that you feel me somehow / you’re the closest to heaven that I’ll ever be / and I don’t want to go home right now”
The ride home felt like déjà vu. Another teary-eyed drive to your apartment after walking away from the man you loved.
Once you were home, you sank into the couch. Wrapped in a blanket, tears streamed down your face as The Smiths' The Queen Is Dead album played on the record player. For the 17th of November, the weather was a bit of a mess. It honestly felt poetic, the thunderstorm mirroring the emotions you were feeling. Every crack of thunder echoed your sobs.
About an hour into your pity party, you were starting to regain some composure when the buzz of the intercom startled you. You figured it was your neighbor, who often used the wrong buzzer, so you hit the button to let them in. Just as you were about to lay back in your spot on the couch, you heard a knock at your apartment door. Curious and a bit irritated, you peered through the peephole and froze. It was Eddie, drenched from the rain, with tears streaming down his face. Your heart raced as you swung the door open, and he walked in, shutting the door behind him.
"Eddie, what-" Before you could utter another word, he started rambling.
“What are the fucking odds you’d be at that bar tonight?” he began, his voice breaking. “On a night that was supposed to be a highlight in my life, all I wanted was to share it with you.” His words came out in fractured gasps, his tears mixing with the rain on his face.
“When you said I fought for everything I wanted, it felt like a knife twisting in my chest... because it’s a lie when I let you leave.” His voice cracked, and he struggled to steady himself.
“I should’ve told you this at the bar,” he choked, his tears falling harder now. “It felt like fucking fate that you were there tonight, and I still let you walk away. Again. I'm so sorry for the way things turned out. I should've fought for us. I should've fought for you. I let you go because I couldn’t admit I loved you. Even though you knew - of course fucking you knew - because you see me, all of me. And you’ve loved me through it, even when I didn’t think it was possible.” He buried his face in his hands, wiping his tears and catching his breath.
“I was convinced I wasn’t enough for you,” he continued. “But you wanted me all the same. I’m so sorry, I should’ve called you weeks ago. I’m sorry for being scared I couldn't be what you deserve, but every day without you has been fucking hell.” His breaths came in jagged, broken waves. “I thought I could move on... but the goddamn world would have to stop before I could ever stop feeling this for you... It’s always been you.”
“Eddie,” you breathed.
Eddie stepped forward, his hands cupping your face. “I'm still not sure if I'm the man you deserve, but I'd like to try if you’ll have me.”
You nodded at his words, tears streaming down your face. Leaning in, you pressed your lips to his in a kiss that began tenderly but quickly deepened, fueled by a desperate need to reconnect and erase the distance that had come between you. Your moans mingled as your tongues met, and Eddie's hands tangled in your hair. When you finally pulled apart, both of you breathless, you rested your foreheads together.
“I love you, Eddie Munson,” you whispered.
“I love you so fucking much, baby,” he murmured, placing a kiss on your forehead.

After Vecna is defeated and the world goes back to normal for good, Steve thinks he can get on with his life. And for a while that's exactly what happens: his scars heal and, against everything he would have ever expected, Eddie heals right beside him.
But a year later, his life gets turned upside down in a whole new way. He gets one more hit to the head. It's a stupid accident, really, something involving a broken lightbulb, an old stepladder and an unfortunate fall. He loses pretty much all his sight. His once expressive brown eyes become hollow shells, one staring right ahead and one turned sideways, but both equally useless.
At first, the darkness is scary. It's frustrating, to be robbed of one of the few things he could always rely on. He has to get to know the world around him in a whole new way. There are days when he hates it, days when he wants to stay in bed in his room forever. There are days when he wants to scream, even days when he wants to cut his own eyes out like Victor Creel did before him.
But slowly, little by little, he learns to live with it. He grows a new appreciation for beautiful music and good food, things that stimulate his other senses that he now relies more heavily on. He develops a sharp ear for people's voices and intonations to make up for the loss of seeing their facial expressions. Where he used to love seeing Robin's bright eyes and Dustin's excited smile, he now treasures the sound of Dustin's laughter and the scent of Robin's cologne.
The one thing he will never stop missing, though, is Eddie's face. The way his eyes light up when he smiles. The way his mouth curves into that mischievous grin that Steve once fell in love with. The way his fluffy curls cascade over his back. Those are the things he misses the most.
There's a lot that makes up for that loss: he can cling to Eddie's arm whenever he wants, without having to worry about people taking their affectionate touches the wrong way. He gets to rely on Eddie's helping hand and to bask in Eddie's scent. And, most importantly: he gets to listen to Eddie's voice all the time, when he describes what's happening around them in lively phrases and with passion in his voice like the true storyteller he is.
“Do you know that there's one thing you're always leaving out when you're describing things to me?” Steve asks him one day, when he feels Eddie's hands move through the air around them during his excited monologue about the orange cat that is currently visiting their garden, chasing after butterflies and going after its own tail in the flowerbeds.
“Huh?” Eddie sounds confused.
“You're always leaving out the most important part,” Steve continues. He lifts his hand and slowly moves it to find Eddie's face. He feels his curls underneath his fingertips, then slides them further over Eddie's features.
“What do you mean, Stevie?”
“You never mention how you look. Only what you see. But if I could see, I'd be looking at you, Eddie. I'd watch your face. I can still remember that curve of your mouth, that crease between your eyebrows...” He lets his hand linger on the places he mentions. “But it's all becoming less clear. I'll never see it again. I don't wanna lose that.”
Steve feels his hand getting covered by another one, lets his fingers be guided across Eddie's cheek.
“You won't,” Eddie tells him softly. “There's no way I'll let you lose that.”
Steve can already feel the change in temperature underneath his fingers before Eddie speaks.
“I'm blushing right now, Stevie. Cause of what you said. And...” He guides Steve's hand further down over the uneven skin of his scarred cheek. “I'm smiling. Just a little bit. Not that wide smile I have when I'm messing with you, but the smaller one, the one that's just for you.”
Eddie squeezes his hand before he lets go. A moment later, his lips brush softly against Steve's, something that's not quite a kiss. Steve can feel that Eddie is about to pull back before it becomes anything more, but he presses back into Eddie's space, chases his warm lips with his own, and wraps his arms around Eddie's body to pull him closer.
Kissing is best without looking anyway.

Steve only starts lying once all the kids have moved out of Hawkins, their families going with them, some left straight after Vecna was defeated, like Eddie and the Sinclairs and Byers-Hoppers, they immediately move out, the others finish high school and Robin and Nancy have already left to go to college, Robin tried to get Steve to come with her but he had to stay and look after Dustin, Eddie tried to get him to come with him and Wayne but again Steve said he had to stay and look after Max but now they're all gone and Steve is alone in Hawkins
Eddie and Robin still asked him to move out to live with them, they'd both ended up in California in the music business but for some reason Steve still stayed, deep down worried that the monster would return and someone would have to look after them, he tells Robin and Eddie about the final touches to the rebuilding efforts, his newly blossoming social life and the dates he goes on each week in an effort to find the one, chattering away to Eddie about this band he heard on the radio, he speaks to Eddie more than Robin, she's at work a lot or with her new friends but she'll always snatch the phone of Eddie if she comes home when Steve has called
Steve is lying about his social life though, he rarely leaves his big, cold, empty house, his parents long gone, he goes to work, watches the final pieces of rebuilding slot into place from behind the counter and he goes home, flinching at noises he thinks he hears and staring into space for long periods of time before he snaps to attention and fears something is coming for him, nothing ever does though
he manages 9 months by himself, alone in Hawkins, before he cracks, he's speaking to Eddie on the phone, clutching the plastic so hard it might crack and Eddie is jabbering on about a new band he went to see this weekend, his voice warm and happy as he blabbers on and Steve isn't saying anything, closing his eyes and letting Eddie's voice wash over him, letting it be the only thing he's aware of and as soon as he hangs up he starts to pack a suitcase, shoving in anything he cares about and its only half full when he closes it, then he gets in his car and drives to the airport, he parks the car in one corner and goes into the building, he buys a one way ticket to California and waits for his plane
when he gets to California he realises he's not sure how to get to Eddie's house and he can't afford a taxi to take him all the way there so he asks a nice looking elderly gentleman how to understand the bus network and the man offers to drive him instead, says he's off to see his niece who lives close enough so Steve hops in, tense and untrusting but desperate enough that he grabs the offer, the man is quiet and he reminds Steve of Wayne, the few times he'd met him and slowly as they crawl through LA traffic Steve relaxes, tells the guy he's going to stay with a friend who he's missed since he left and the man smiles a little, Steve asks to be dropped a couple blocks away, not wanting to cause trouble for this man and he walks the rest of the way to Eddie's, going off street names and the directions the man with the truck gave him
it starts to rain when Steve is a block away, he thought it was supposed to be sunny all the time in LA and later Eddie will tell him it usually is Steve just has shit timing, but he turns up at Eddie's door, sodden and nervous and a little pathetic looking but he knocks on the door, unsure if Eddie will even be in but he hears clattering inside and then the door is being yanked open, Eddie stares at him before he's leaping forward and wrapping Steve in his arms, Steve starts to cry immediately and Eddie ushers him inside, it all comes pouring out like the rain he's just left behind and he tells Eddie everything, how he was withering away in Hawkins but he couldn't leave, not until today or yesterday, his times have gone funny
Eddie just lets Steve curl up in his arms and holds him, lets him get snot and tears all over his shirt and doesn't mind when the wetness of Steve's jeans starts to soak into his own, Eddie just strokes his hair and tells him its gonna be okay and Steve believes him, closes his eyes and lets Eddie's voice wash over him again but this time its not the only thing he's aware of, he feels Eddie's warm hands on his thigh and in his hair, feels the firmness of Eddie's chest against his side and he can smell Eddie too and Steve lets himself drown in it all
he's content enough that hours later when Robin bangs down the door, like she could sense Steve was around, he lets her bully him out of Eddie's lap and lets her curl around him protectively and Steve screams at himself internally for not coming here before but he's safe now, he has Robin and Eddie here and he smiles into Robin's shoulder when he feels Eddie's fingers tangle with his and squeeze gently

I’ve been reading a lot of stuff on Twitter and well I’ve come up with this idea
So in this au i’m talking about its most commonly the Omega who courts the Alpha. As there is a better success rate with relationships if the Omega is able to decide who they want. (Plus it’s not as stressful on them knowing they have a alpha out there who wants them but don’t know they are. It gives them some control and if things go right it will be the last thing they have to really control in the relationship)
But problem is Steve Harrington (omega) hasn’t courted anyone or made any attempts to do so. Every Female Alpha doesn’t catch his eye in a way that he wants, and the one that kind of did turned out to be a lesbian. So he kind of just gives up. He’s drained and had to take on a lot more then what a normal omega should have with the upside down. (Frankly even more then what one Alpha does in a life time) so it’s just accepted that Steve Harrington doesn’t plan on doing anything.
Then Eddie comes along. Both of them went through hell together, Steve even had to carry the Alpha out and it was one of the most distressing things in his life. Then Vecna is defeated and everything goes back to “normal”. Or as normal as it can get.
Steve doesn’t even realize that he’s courting Eddie. It’s all done without thought, and Eddie has already caught onto it and shyly takes each piece with a happy smile. Not pushing the boy any further. Wayne Munson is even seeing his boy being courted and he’s excited. He was convinced that no one would go for his boy in this town.
It starts off with cookies, Steve shyly brings them in and Eddie destroys the whole container within a few minutes with a happy smile. Then Steve brings in a crotched blanket for the other, seeing the way he was cold under the regular blankets. The next thing might now count, but Eddie does. Steve brings back Eddie’s vest and it smells only like Steve. Eddie sleeps with it for weeks until the scent is gone. He’s close to asking Steve to give him something with his smell when Steve gives him a black teddy bear that was hand made to look like Eddie (and it smells like steve!) the courting doesn’t stop in the hospital, when Eddie’s realizes that Steve might not take the last step he decides to court Steve.
He starts giving the other stuff he knows he’ll like. Drawings of him biting a bat like Ozzy, a old sweater the totally doesn’t fit Eddie anymore, and some blankets. Though he also gets a bit more touchy. He catches onto how Steve melts into him. It’s a year after everything has happened and they have been courting each other the entire time very obviously. Everyone is tired of how cute they are but they all understand.
Steve finally finishes what he started when he trusts (he forces) Eddie into his nest after a really bad nightmare. Scenting Eddie in the process. Which forces them to a conversation which does lead to Steve being taken care of 😉

Let Me Be Your Man (I want to hold your hand)
CW: none * Rating: Mature (frottage) * Pairing: Steve/Eddie * Prompt: Mixtape
“Okay! Okay! I’m coming!” Steve yells when the pounding on his door gains momentum to add to its volume. Grumbling, he peeks out the side window and sees one of the kid’s bikes thrown down in his lawn. Little assholes.
When he yanks the door open, Mike Wheeler is just raising his fist to pound it against the door again. “I need your help.” His face is red and sweaty with exertion as he shoves past Steve into the house.
Immediately, Steve reaches into the umbrella stand and pulls out the only thing in it - his nail bat. “What’s happening?” He asks, rounding toward Mike, “Why didn’t you radio or call? What is it? Vecna? Jocks? Where’s everyone else?”
Mike skids to a halt and stares at Steve incredulously. “What? No. Put your bat away, dumbass.” He rolls his eyes. “I need your help.”
Relaxing just a small amount, Steve lets the top of the bat rest on the entryway floor. He probably looks as confused as he feels. “What? Why are you saying it like that? What kind of help?”
Mike huffs, throws his hands up and spins on his heel, stalking into the kitchen. Before Steve follows, he counts to ten, puts his bat away and curses the day he started dating Nancy Wheeler. Always the goddamn babysitter.
At the breakfast counter, Mike is deflating, shoulders drooping in what looks like defeat, chin braced in one hand, elbow pressed against the cool tile. With the other hand he’s tracing the lines of grout between the tiles.
On a whim, Steve detours to the fridge, loading up his arms with the makings for sandwiches. Back at the counter, he pulls out four slices of Wonderbread. “So - what brings you to my door?” He shakes the mayo and Mike nods so he starts to slather it on two of the pieces. Mike nods again to the mustard so Steve slathers that on the other two. Giving Mike the time to gather his thoughts.
“Um, well…I, uh, I like someone.” Mike sighs, looking down at the tile where he’s still tracing the lines.
Someone not a girl. Someone. Will. It’s gotta be Will. Steve has seen the way that they both look at each other when the other isn’t looking. He and Robin have talked about it, about which one to approach first to let them into their elite Hawkins Gay Club which currently has two members. Not one and a half, Robin. Being bisexual still means he’s a whole gay. Dang it.
“Cheese?” Steve asks, peeling his own out of the Kraft plastic wrap. When Mike nods, Steve pulls out a second one for him. “Turkey or ham?” He pops open both and proceeds to put both on his own sandwich.
“Both, please.” Mike says and then jumps down, well, steps down because his gangly legs are much longer now. He goes over and grabs the salt and pepper from the back of the stove lip and sprinkles some of each on his, raises an eyebrow and when Steve nods, he sprinkles them on Steve’s as well.
Fancy.
“You want lettuce and tomato?” Steve says, slicing his own. Mike does not, he does go into the pantry and grab a bag of chips though because the kids are way too comfortable in Steve’s house apparently.
“I need your help making a mixtape.” Mike says as sits back down.
Steve frowns. “Why are you here for a mixtape and not at Eddie’s? He’s the music guy.” And really - that’s a no brainer.
Groaning, Mike flops his head down his folded arms on the counter, narrowly missing the bag of chips. “Eddie cannot be trusted to make mixtapes. I was there for four hours, Steve. FOUR HOURS. And all I got was a lesson on ‘real metal versus sell out metal.’” He groans again. “He was so excited to help me but then we just recorded an hour of Black Sabbath songs. W- this person doesn’t even like metal!”
“Well, you’ve come to the right place.” Steve gives Mike an encouraging smile as he cuts their sandwiches in half diagonally. Who cuts sandwiches across the middle? Vecna probably. Monster. “Mixtapes aren’t just about your favorite songs or even their favorite songs. It’s songs that you want to share with them and songs that remind you of them. And, of course, songs that tell them how you feel about them.” He plates both sandwiches and slides Mike’s across the bar. “It helps to know who the person is because mixtapes should be personalized but as long as you know their music, I can probably help you.”
Chewing the first bite slowly, Mike nods like he’s agreeing or gearing up to talk. Steve grabs them each a soda out of the fridge, sliding Mike’s over and taking the bag of chips. “My sister really loved the one you made for her. Well,” He reaches into the chip bag and pulls out a handful before pushing the bag toward Steve, “she still does actually. She plays it sometimes.”
Steve stops with his hand half inside the bag, “She does?”
“Yeaaaah.” Mike drags it out, putting a chip in his mouth but then talking around it. “She said it was the tape that made her realize she needed to break up with you.” Steve makes a little grunt of outrage but Mike pushes through, waving his hand to stop Steve from interrupting. “No, no, she loves that tape. Seriously. She said that listening to it made her realize that you’re the kind of guy who loves forever. But that you loved this girl she made up, she was pretending to be, even though she knew she’d never be that girl again…not after…you know.” He shrugs his bony shoulders and looks down at the counter again.
Without thinking about it, Steve’s eyes flick up to look out of the kitchen window where he can see the corner of the pool. He nods, saying dejectedly, “Yeah, I get that.”
“And sometimes, when Jonathan is being Jonathan, she listens to it to remind her that you saw her as strong and brave - that’s what she said, strong and brave - before she even saw herself that way.” Mike opens his sandwich and puts down a layer of chips on top of the meat, squishing the top slice of bread back down before taking a bite. These kids are such weirdos. With his mouth full, he continues, “She said it reminds her that she doesn’t need Jonathon. Or any man. That she won’t settle for a life she doesn’t want. Not even for a guy like you.”
“Huh.” Steve replies, taking another bite of his own sandwich, chewing thoughtfully. “A guy like me?”
Rolling his eyes, Mike makes a sound like he’s tasted something bad and says, “Yeah, don’t get a big head. You still suck.”
Steve snorts. The audacity of this kid is truly admirable. He’s still not sure that makes him feel better but Nancy deserves to get what she wants so he can be happy for her. Even if his tape is part of what drove her away. He shakes it off, though, “Okay, so what type of music does this person like?”
They spend the rest of the afternoon and well into the evening going through the tapes and albums Steve has and making a list of the ones that Mike has that he thinks might work. Then they pair them down to make an album that flows, “like a story” Steve tells him. The playlist has a song by Bowie because really every playlist should. One from The Smiths because Steve knows Will loves them even though he doesn’t mention that part to Mike. Mike picks the one metal song that Eddie suggested that he thought made sense, they all sound alike to Steve so he doesn’t pay attention to which one it is. The others are sprinkles of songs both boys have shared memories about.
“It’s really the last song that matters,” he tells Mike. “You’ve laid the groundwork for blending your stories together and that last song is the one you have to be brave with. The words matter. That’s the song where you say what you wanna say. Even if it’s the scariest thing you’ve ever done.”
Mike nods slowly, like he’s really focusing on the meaning behind Steve’s words.
The last song, after the Mike and Will songs, after it’s clear that this is a story of the two of them together , is “I Want to Hold Your Hand,” by the Beatles. It’s the only song like it on the whole tape so it stands out clearly. It’s a love song without being slow and romantic. It’s honest. And it says, “let me be your man.” So there are no wrong pronouns. Again, Steve doesn’t mention it.
After running by the Wheeler’s to pick up a few of Mike’s tapes, they pull by the trailer park and Mike runs in to borrow the one that Eddie suggested. At the trailer door, Eddie looks over at Steve waiting in his car and gives him a head nod. Smiling fondly, Steve wonders if those two know how dorky they look in their matching Hellfire shirts and cut off jeans, if Eddie is aware that Mike is trying very hard to be as cool as he thinks Eddie is. Probably not. Eddie is pretty oblivious.
Case in point, Steve’s been hitting on him for weeks with not a single sign that Eddie is aware of it at all.
Maybe Steve should make him a mixtape. He gives a little finger wave that Eddie returns, looking thoughtful as Mike lopes back to the car with his goofily long arms and legs flailing and throws himself into the passenger seat. Steve backs out and drives away, watching Eddie get smaller and smaller in the rearview.
Steve picks them up burgers on the way back to his house and then they lay on his floor next to his big fancy stereo, recording the songs in order, from tape to tape. When they get to the Beatles song, Steve makes an excuse about cleaning up the kitchen and leaves Mike with the tape insert and a pen.
When he comes back, Mike’s folding a piece of notebook paper and tucking it inside the case as well. He must have had a lot to say. His eyes are a little red rimmed but Steve pretends not to notice of course.
In the Wheeler driveway, after he helps Mike dislodge his bike from where they half tucked it into the Bimmer trunk and just let the lid sit on it because it doesn’t actually fit all the way, Steve leans against the car with his arms and ankles crossed, trying to look as relaxed as he can. He wants to say something, let Mike know he’s a safe person to talk to. That they’re alike. He’s not sure how to without scaring him, though.
“Uh…thanks for this, man.” Mike snorts a laugh and gives that snotty side smile of his, “Maybe Dustin’s right about you.”
Steve grins, “Oh yeah?”
“Yeah.” He nods solemnly, “You don’t totally suck.” But then he grins back all cocksure like the almost sixteen year old that he is.
Scoffing, Steve kicks out and hits one of Mike’s bike tires with his shoe, “Thanks, asshole.” Pushing off the car, he starts to turn away but then, “Hey, if it’s who I think it is, you can talk to me - I…I get it. Understand?” He makes sure he catches Mike’s eye so the kid can’t look down and away like he usually does. Steve sees the flash of fear but it’s quickly replaced with hope, maybe even trust.
Mike just nods and Steve gets out of there before he embarrasses the poor kid again. On his drive home, he rolls the windows down, turns his car radio up too loud and sings along, uncaring that he’s probably out of tune.
Steve’s been home for maybe an hour when someone knocks on his door again. There’s less noise this time but it’s still just solid pounding without giving him the chance to get to the door. Everyone he knows is an asshole apparently.
“Alright, alright, keep it in your–” He yanks open the door and finds Eddie standing there still wearing his ripped cutoffs and his Hellfire shirt. Well, the version two that he designed for the club when he handed it down after graduation. “-pants.”
Eddie smiles, sly and flirty, “You sure?”
Steve rolls his eyes, “What are you gonna do when I call your bluff someday?” Because although Steve has been honestly flirting with Eddie, Eddie’s just been over the top hitting on Steve with innuendos and double entendres that don’t mean anything serious. Well, Steve can’t tell if they mean anything serious at least.
Which is part of why Steve hasn’t at least tried to make a move.
“We’ll see when that day comes I guess.” Eddie leans in and taps on Steve’s chest with the tip of his pointer finger. “I made you something Big Boy.”
There’s a circle of burning fire in the spot where Eddie’s finger was. His touches always seem to leave flames in their wake. Steve wonders if Eddie feels them, too “Is it dinner? Because I already ate with Baby Wheeler.”
“Nope.” Eddie drags out the “p” making a popping sound. “Baby Wheeler mentioned you were helping him with his mixtape - said you were some kind of expert.”
Scratching the back of his neck, Steve nods, admitting, “I don’t know about expert. Sorry, though, didn’t mean to step on your toes.”
“No, no, it’s cool.” Eddie leans his shoulder against the door jamb which is weird because he’s usually pushed past Steve to make himself at home by this point. Or Steve has invited him in. But they’re just standing here in the open doorway. “Besides - Wheeler informed me that I suck at mixtapes. Something about telling a story and not shoving metal down people’s throats.”
Steve crosses his arms defensively, “Don’t take it personally. You’re great at dragon stories. Gotta leave something for the rest of us to be good at.” He’s looking down so he misses the expression that accompanies the scoff Eddie gives but it sounds exasperated.
“Well.” Eddie says, bringing Steve’s eyes back up to him as he pulls a cassette tape out of his vest pocket. “Anyway, here.”
It shouldn’t make him feel the way it does. But it does. Steve’s heart flutters and his stomach swoops and the finger that brushes Eddie’s as he takes the tape feels like it’s charged with lightning. He’s still not sure, though, it could be that kind or it could just be Eddie trying to prove that metal is the best.
Before he can stop himself, he asks, “You made me a mixtape?” And the hopefulness in his voice is as clear as day. But then it’s met with a look in Eddie’s eyes - fear, denial, like he wants to take it back, so Steve pivots, teasing, “Is it an hour of metal? Did you do a voice over?”
Rolling his eyes and stuffing his hands into his vest pockets, Eddie hisses, “No. Jerk.”
After a moment of indecision, Steve asks hesitantly, “Do you..do you wanna listen to it together?”
There’s fear in Eddie’s eyes again and he takes a wary step back, “Uh - no. No, that wouldn’t be a great idea.” He swings his arms, snapping and bringing the flat of one hand against the curled first of the other before pointing finger guns at Steve. It’s so horribly awkward that Steve is filled with hope again. “Uh, yeah, it’s, um, it’s just for you, man.” He’s clearly nervous and waves of anxious energy are almost rolling off of him as he spins and walks away, throwing a confident, “See ya Harrington!” over his shoulder but Steve’s not fooled at all.
“Oh you will, Munson.” Steve calls after him, slow smile growing when Eddie’s shoulder’s visibly hunch before he leaps into his van and pulls away, tires practically squealing with the force of him gunning it.
Huh. Interesting.
Closing the door, Steve goes over to the phone on the entryway table where he leaves his keys and Family Video vest every night. He dials and after two rings, Robin picks up, “Thank you for calling Family-oh damn it, I mean, hello?”
“You’re such a mess.” Steve snorts.
“Fuck you Harrington, you’re such a mess!” She whisper shouts, because if her dad hears her cussing, she'll be grounded until she leaves for college.
“I didn’t say I wasn’t.” Steve assures her. “But listen - Mike came over earlier–”
“Mike?!” She actually shouts this time. “Is there a Code Red? What happened? Why didn’t you call me?” There’s the distinct sound of her rolling off of her bed and scrambling for shoes or clothes.
“Calm down, you ninny.” He sighs. “We are scarily alike.”
“Duh.” Then she makes an oof sound as she flops back onto her bed.
“I thought the same thing because when does Mike ever willingly talk to me?”
“Like, never. Unless it’s to make fun of you – ohhh wait, did he come to talk about Will?” She squees. “Did the baby gay come to get advice from his babysitter?”
Steve laughs, switching the phone to his other ear and sitting down on the carpeted stairs. He should have made this call from his bedroom where he could have laid on his bed, too late now. “Sort of? He asked for my help making a mixtape for ‘someone’ but didn’t tell me who and I didn’t out him by asking but when I dropped him off at home, I hinted that I knew and he could talk to me.”
“Ohhhh Steve, that’s so adorable. If I remotely liked any of your children, I’d be touched.” She straight out lies because they all know she adores Max like a little partner in crime. “Why you though? Why not Eddie?”
“That’s what I said!” He laughs and then dives into telling her the whole story. Eddie’s metal sell out lesson, the hours of pouring over music, Nancy’s love of his mixtape that he made for her back in high school. She comments and laughs at all the right places because they are of one mind, as always. Then though, then, he drops the bomb.
“So, the reason I’m calling is because Eddie showed up at my door. With a mixtape. For me. And he declined my offer to listen to it together.” Steve twists the cord around his finger, waiting until the skin turns red before unwinding it.
“Oh my god! What’s on it?” She shouts, “And why didn’t you lead with that?”
“I don’t know what’s on it. I haven’t listened to it yet.”
“Why not, you dingus?!” Robin screeches then she adds in a subdued tone, “Do you think…?”
In an equally subdued tone he replies, “I don’t know. I think that’s why I called you first. I’m a little scared to get my hopes up.”
She makes a little noise of agreement. She’s been there.
“And I just…I’m not his type at all. And I know that. But he’s so…” Steve sighs and lays back on the stairs awkwardly, it’s not comfortable at all but it’s keeping him focused. “He’s loud and brash and annoying and I like that because I’m not. But he’s also sweet and squishy and brave and so fucking funny. Argh.”
“And you already got your hopes up when he dropped it off and you don’t want to be disappointed?” Robin asks gently because she really does know him so well.
“Yeah,” he tells her in a hushed voice. “His face when he handed it over, Rob. He was nervous. And then he practically ran away.”
“Well, idiot, you won’t know until you listen.” She says matter-of-factly and he can almost hear her brushing off her hands and standing up. “Buck up. You want me to come over and listen to it with you?”
“Nah. I want to hear it the first time on my own.” That way he can cry before he has to face her if that’s where this is going. “I’ll call you if I need you, though, k?”
“You know I’m always here for you.”
He does.
After they hang up, Steve doesn’t waste anymore time. He doesn’t want to give himself any time to think so he heads into the living room and pops it into the tape deck he and Mike had just recorded ‘someone’s’ tape on. Laying back on the floor he lets the first song play.
He doesn’t recognize the first chords but the recording itself is kinda fuzzy, like it’s a live version of something. It’s an acoustic guitar, slow but building. When the voice comes in, Steve sits up and turns toward the speaker. It’s Eddie.
I was always trapped. Drowning in this small town, Dragged down by small minds To the bottom of the lake. Spent most of my days  on the run from myself. Running from the me I wasn’t ready to be. Trapped in this small town  with these small minds. That is, until you. Until there was you. You stood your ground. Stood up for mine, too. And I never ran as fast  as I did to you.
There’s a guitar break. It’s beautiful, simple, a slow melody that builds with Eddie’s voice almost trembling when it comes back in.
You’re the boy The boy who stops the world. Stops it from spinning Out of my reach. I want to run to you. But we’re stuck in this town With these small minds, That drag us down. I just wanna be free Free to love you. I only wanna run If you’ll catch me.  In this small town In this small town
The song fades out and there’s the sound of Eddie’s breathing, it catches like he’s going to say something but then exhales and the recording clicks off. Steve speeds through the tape and flips it over and does the same to the other side. The rest of it is empty. He plays the song again. Listening with his eyes closed this time.
Then he jumps up, ejects the tape, grabs his keys and fumbles with the lock on the way out. He doesn’t let himself think. Just plays the song over and over for the fifteen minute drive to the trailer park. All the lights in the trailer are on and the music in Eddie’s room is blaring loud enough that Steve can hear it in his car with his own music still on.
He still doesn’t stop to think, just rushes out of the car and up the steps to pound on the door and when Eddie opens it with wide eyes and a healthy dose of fear on his face, Steve thinks for a second that he should say something, confirm that it’s a song written for him - about them both - but he can’t. Or he’ll chicken out.
So, instead, he just steps into the trailer, forcing Eddie to take a step back, pushes the door shut behind him and whispers, “Too many small minds out there.” And kisses Eddie.
It’s a good kiss too. Steve cradles Eddie’s head and tilts him just enough that he can get the perfect angle to …what’s the word in all those trashy books? Ravish. Steve ravishes Eddie’s mouth. It’s not sweet, it’s desperate and filled with need and when he finally lets go, Eddie’ lips are swollen and kiss bitten.
“I hope that song was telling me you like me or this is going to be a very awkward conversation.” Steve says when Eddie’s eyes flutter open.
“I’d have made you a whole mixtape but Wheeler told me this afternoon that the final song is the one that really matters.” Eddie grins then, wide and impish, swooping in to catch Steve’s mouth with his own. When he comes up for air, he whispers, “Besides, where was I gonna get an hour of ABBA songs?”
Growling, Steve walks Eddie backwards until the backs of his knees hit the couch and he sits. “I’m more of a Springsteen fan, actually.” He says as he climbs into Eddie’s lap and swoops down for a kiss.
It’s frenzied and graceless, like the two desperate kids they still are. Neither of them old enough to buy a six pack of beer and both overflowing with the sexual tension they’ve built up between them. Steve can’t seem to stop kissing Eddie long enough to do anything more than grind himself down against Eddie’s lap.
Luckily, Steve’s been in his old basketball shorts all day and Eddie changed into sweats sometime after he’d gotten home so there’s nothing but a few layers of cotton between their rock hard boners.
Jesus, it feels like the first time Steve dry humped with some girl back in freshman year. But like, a thousand times better. Not just because they both have dicks but because it’s Eddie .
He rolls his hips, brushing their aforementioned dicks together and swallows Eddie’s groan. Eddie’s hands are on Steve’s hips, guiding him as he rolls them, flexing his hands around the softness there. When Steve moans into Eddie’s mouth, Eddie’s hands slip around and squeeze his ass, cupping it and helping him press their laps together. One of them whines as their dicks slot together just right and they both thrust against each other.
“Stevie, fuck. Yes,” Eddie swears, “Don’t stop, please don’t stop.” Then his tongue is back in Steve’s mouth, sliding along Steve’s, sucking on his bottom lip. He licks and nips and bites his way down Steve’s throat, probably leaving bruises and Steve should care about that but he doesn’t.
“Eddie, Eddie - I need,” It’s too fast, Steve knows he can last so much longer than this but he can’t seem to slow down. “Oh, god.”
“What, Stevie?” Eddie manages between grunts as they rut against each other desperately, “What do you need?”
Oh god, he’s almost there, Steve feels the warmth pooling in his belly, the muscles in his legs straining, the droplets of precome sticking to his underwear and Eddie’s hard cock pushing against the length of his own as he cries, “You, fuck, just you.” And then he comes, arching and fucking against Eddie. One hand buried in the hair at Eddie’s nape and the other digging his fingernails into Eddie’s shoulder.
Eddie pulls Steve tight to his chest, one hand around his back, holding Steve close while he comes. Eddie’s still thrusting against Steve, rolling and pressing with his hips until he, too, arches and comes with a hoarse shout.
When Eddie relaxes back against the couch, Steve collapses in his lap, head resting on Eddie's shoulder, breath hot against his collarbone. Both fucked out and exhausted.
Minutes later, once the aftershocks have subsided for both of them and Steve’s sweaty forehead is pressed into the side of Eddie’s sweaty neck, Steve admits, “Fine, I like ABBA but who doesn’t? Those songs are catchy.”
Eddie snorts a laugh out. Then, it's a little gross, but they both start laughing and have to peel their damp crotches away from each other. Totally worth it, though, when Eddie brings Steve's hand up to his mouth, kissing the palm before he threads their fingers together so he can hold Steve's hand.
Thanks to @thefreakandthehair for hosting this challenge! It was super fun and I'm so glad I actually made it in under the deadline. Skin of my teeth!
Here's the Ao3 link if you want to drop me some love there - comments make my brain buzz and I'd love to hear your thoughts on the perfect Mike/Will or Steve/Eddie mixtape playlist!

March 27th 1986, if you ask Eddie Munson, sucks. It blows, the worst of the worst (it’s technically the day he ‘died’.)
It will always be known around Hawkins that Eddie Munson died. That a few days before he supposedly killed Chrissy Cunningham, that he ran from her body because he didn’t know what else to do. So to Hawkins, March 27th is a day that cult leader, murderer Eddie Munson died.
March 27th, 1986
Everything hurts, he can feel so many fangs biting into him. He’s pretty sure he’s screaming but his body is buzzing from the pain and his eyes are tightly shut. Hopefully his death is worth it, that him being demo-bat bait is enough time for the rest to defeat Vecna. It’s one of his only thoughts in his head, the other? He’s thinking about how disappointed he is that he didn’t get to make Harrington flush a pretty red down his chest, it’s not important but he saw the man’s face when ‘Big Boy’ came out of his mouth.
He doesn’t know how long the bats attack him, doesn’t know when the pain stopped. Doesn’t know if he passed out or actually died. All he knows currently is pain.
“-st keep it quiet in here, ok? We do have other patients in the rooms next door. Now, visiting hours is until seven and only one person can spend the night here.” A woman’s voice wakes him up and he doesn’t know who it is, “I’ll be back later to check vitals, please remember to keep it down”
There’s a few quiet ‘sorry ma’am’s and ‘won’t happen again’s and a door closing before he’s listening to voices get louder and definitely bickering. Then someone saying ‘shh’ over and over, “come on shithead, my head hurts and the doctors said Eddie needs rest and your voice is so annoying”
He wants to laugh, thinks he makes some sort of sound because the room falls silent.
“Eddie? Are you- are you awake?”
His eyes feel heavy but he manages to blink them open. Vision is blurry and he groans, blinking more and then the room is more in focus. The first thing he notices is the fact that he’s in a hospital room. There’s a beeping he didn’t notice, there’s an IV hooked to his arm and he doesn’t have to see to know everyone in the room is staring at him. The first person he notices is undoubtedly his Uncle Wayne, who’s tearing up and moves closer to the bed. “Ed, ya really scared me”
“I’m sorry, Wayne” he mumbles out immediately tearing up, he didn’t mean to upset his uncle. Just wanted to help, to make up for not saving Chrissy. Can’t get those words out, they’re stuck in his throat and he accepts the hug from Wayne within seconds. “Didn’t mean too, swear.”
Wayne huffs a laugh and tightens his arm, pressing a kiss to his forehead.
The moment doesn’t last long and next thing he knows, there’s Henderson looking both guilty and pissed off. “Dude! You didn’t need to do that!”
Eddie rolls his eyes and doesn’t answer him, doesn’t even pretend to think about anything to reply back, instead he looks around the room and notices Wheeler, Buckley and then his eyes find Harrington siting next to him. He’s actually the only one sitting down, looking exhausted and in pain.
Now’s not the time but hey, he almost died and a little high from the drugs and the fact that he’s fucking alive right now. He’s shooting his shot.
“Hey, Steve, wasn’t planning on asking you, but it appeared to me that life is short. Will you marry me?”
The rest of the room goes silent and he doesn’t care, not much anyway. He just found out that Hell is real and underneath him, he’s allowed to ask another man to marry him. Doesn’t want to miss his chance now, because life is short and Harrington- Steve is someone he’d like to marry, even if they haven’t had many conversations. (He’s blaming his crush for this, he’s high okay?)
Steve looks like a deer in headlights, wide eyed with his mouth open and much to Eddie’s delight, a very nice blush is making its way up his face.
Minutes go by, and the silence is starting to get to him. He’s about ready to take it back but right as he opens his mouth, Steve is moving. Shifting the chair to face him better and closer, then a hand is sliding under his own and squeezes. His gaze flickers to the now entwined hands before looking at Steve, his face is a beautiful shade of red now.
“Let’s do dinner first?”
His smile is wide, he doesn’t even hear the immediate confusion and surprise from everyone else in the room. His focus is all on Steve and sees a smile bloom, “Hell yeah, beautiful”
~~~~
March 27th, 1987
While Hawkins celebrates a “death” there’s a small group of family and friends in a backyard listening to vows being traded. Smiles, tears and laughter is heard all around.
In front of everyone is Eddie and Steve, both wearing matching suits, sunflowers pinned on their jackets. Holding hands and smiling, eyes staring to water from words of protection and laughter, happiness and love.
Cheers start when the rings are traded and lips pressed together in a kiss to seal the deal.
Maybe someday in the future they can do this officially. For now, they’re happy with this. The matching rings sit on their fingers and a promise to love each other is all they need.
March 27th, 1987, if you ask Eddie Munson, is amazing, his favorite day. The best of the best and a beautiful day. He’ll forever remember it as the day he got to marry Steve Harrington. (And if he cries in their new bedroom a few weeks later when Steve shows him paper work of a name change, well, that’s between him and his husband)
~~~~
I wanted to write something with Eddie asking Steve to marry him. Had to include the date of course lol. I’m not going to explain any specifics on why Hawkins believes Eddie’s dead but it’s fine, they move away anyway. Eddie eventually makes it big with Corroded Coffin and Steve eventually becomes a teacher 🥰

okay guys here’s my crazy unsupported st5 theory that is mostly just me projecting my need for madwheeler bonding and drama and angst also byler duh
Tumblr media
disclaimers: i never make theories so this is extremely messy probably, i know jack dookie abt writing shows i think of this as my own little version of what i would think would be very cool to happen, if this has loop holes dont ask me anything bc idk either
OKAY LETS GET ON IT
so first things first here is what i am taking into consideration for the theory to happen:
• mike pov, self reflection and introspection (he is gay and in love with will byers okay)
• madwheeler bonding, theyre both complex n misunderstood
• the upside down isnt just one dimension, i came up with this bc of how different the ud looks now
Tumblr media
compared to when henry arrived.
Tumblr media
to me theres like an umbrella dimension (yellow one) and others under it (blue one/hawkins ud, the void, etc)
this is also lowkey supported by the silly boobie diagram the writers posted abt
Tumblr media
OKAY PREPARE FOR THE WORD VOMIT
in this silly theory of mine, a new dimension variant of the ud will be revealed in season 5, serving as a parallel to the void. this is where max is
OKAY another thing is this is also heavily based on those “leaks” that were going around twitter (for me at least) earlier when the strike first started. i remember a few of them claiming that we would get a deeper insight into mike and his own things, so this is my interpretation
this would serve as another vanishing, not really bc its shorter, but this time mike will be getting stuck in this other dimension, eventually finding max BOOM madwheeler serve
Tumblr media
i mean look at them. the potential is insane
ANYWAYS
this dimension is like a combo of all the other ones, picture it like the hawkins ud, with the void’s wet floor maybe
lets go back to the fact max is here, this is her coma nightmare, its like this purgatory dimension vecna put her soul in
in this dimension inhabit your ghosts
this overwhelming, haunting, tormenting realm in your mind where you are constantly confronting all your bad memories, maybe this is kind of how vecna keeps max under his grasp, no happy memories allowed
okay so, mike gets there. how? when? i dont fucking know this is honestly just word vomit fanfiction to me
at first hes confused, scared but mostly confused, picture him screaming for wills name (the parallels) at first it’s empty and eerily quiet, but as he accepts it, the ghosts start coming in.
he gets BOMBARDED with these bad memories, some of them he cant even remember because come on, bro is always neglecting his internalized feelings/monologue in fear of what they say about him
this is where we get his pov on the whole will and eleven situation, amongst other things (like the way he’s constantly stressed thinking about the safety of the people he loves)
for a moment we see him break, bc these ghosts are LOUD and MANY
but it stops
max is here, she’s like “MIKE?”
“MAX?”
shes been here for a fat minute, she knows how to handle these ghosts in fact shes been going thru them one by one ever since, because shes done hiding. and she suspects that the only way to get out is by confronting them.
max saves mike from his ghosts, explains that this place is seemingly a purgatory with levels of memories and ghosts to overcome
this is how we get our madwheeler bonding we so graciously need, as they are part of eachother ghosts since theyre so similar it makes the other mad
this is how our complex misunderstood characters are broken down, explained to the audience, while also discovering the mystery that is this new dimension where at the finish line they might just figure out how to defeat vecna.
because they will
after overcoming the ghosts they find the place that vecna didnt think they would reach as he was so sure they would break and collapse on their own madness
think of it as how el found the source in season 3
Tumblr media
or how max found vecnas lair after running away in dear billy
Tumblr media
except this place is vecnas actual mind, they can see hear and feel what vecna is thinking, his plans and everything
mike wonders how will feels being able to feel this all the time
will feels this all the time
will is always connected to this piece of vecnas mind, to this source
he can always hear vecna
until he suddenly hears max… and mike and theyre calling for help
Tumblr media
theyve figured out key clues on how to defeat vecna, and they have an idea on how to get out. this is how will’s connection comes in handy
mind walkie-talkie
maybe thats what this theory should be called, idk
-
so thats how we get our byler confirmation, madwheeler bonding like never before, mike focus, and the key to defeat vecna
at least in my head
i know this was messy and all over the place but it was very fun to explain and drop all my thoughts ive been vomiting on the gc for months now
let me know what you think, what you would add, if theres anything you think will support this theory?
its all just a theory, for fun! pls keep that in mind
thank you if you’ve read this far🫶

The Upside Down is a tesseract.
(time theory)
The writers tweeted a picture of the book Wrinkle in Time, which its title refers to a tesseract. You may ask, what's a tesseract? The basis is that a tesseract is a fifth dimension (the fourth dimension is time). Even in the book, to explain it, they use the same metaphor that they used in Stranger Things about the flea.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
Here they're only using this concept to travel through dimensions. In ST, creating gates with so much power that tore space and time. And in the book, in a very similar way, to make a shortcut go to point A to point B.
We know that El has the power to create these gates, so Vecna is interested in her. And she also was the one who sent Henry to another dimension for the first time. But if you pay attention, this dimension didn't look like the Upside Down, so it makes me believe that these aren't the same place.
One is blue with spores and looks like Hawkins on November sixth, 1983, the day Willl disappeared (remember that the Duffers said this was important, and they will explain it in s5). And the other has warm colors and looks like a desert with many rocks.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
My theory is that Will created the Upside Down while trying to hide from the Demogorgon. As in Wrinkle in Time, not everyone has the power of tesser. And Will manipulated time and space to create this fifth dimension.
We have seen how the Upside Down can affect the real world via the lights. They use light particles to communicate with others. A similar way that Interstellar uses the strings in the fifth dimension (also a tesseract). But in Stranger Things, they have only used it to communicate in the same period of time (the present), but what if there's a way to also communicate to other periods of time (the past)?
In Interstellar, the tesseract is an enormous structure used to communicate through gravity. Still, it's Copper's love for his daughter that allows him to see her in the past and communicate with her in this exact period. Because the premise of the movie is love transcends time and space.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
ST also uses the trope of the power of love. So where I'm going with this? Our heroes will find a way to communicate with their past selves to try to prevent things, but I don't think they will be able to change the past even if they try.
My reason to believe that they will also play with time is that our villain literally has a clock motif and is obsessed with time. Also, there have been some references about time travel. And going back to season 1, the night Will disappeared, the lights in Mike's house were flickering. And the light in Will's bike also started to flicker, so he was able to notice the Demogorgon. Maybe it also was a warning. Still, if we continue with this theory, Vecna was living in the other dimension, not in the Upside Down, so he wasn't the one manipulating the lights because Will hadn't created it "yet." So who was behind the flickering? Our heroes in the future.
This isn't a new theory; I know this is the basis of flickergate. It's cute the idea that they were kissing in the Upside Down, but I think they were trying to prevent Will from leaving. Like in Interstellar, Cooper uses Morse code to send the message "STAY" But in both cases, they couldn't stop it.
Remember the iconic scene with Joyce and the Christmas lights, when she painted an alphabet, and someone warned her to RUN. Some people had questioned how Will was able to see the letters when the Upside Down was stuck on the day he disappeared. So, what if it wasn't the Will who was stuck in the UD and was someone from the future that was trying to save her (maybe Will but his future self).
There may be more examples of lights flickering, but these are the two that I remember right now.
Also, we know that Will could call his house via the phone. And in season 2, when they discovered that the way to defeat the Mindflayer was by closing the gate, the phone started to ring, so Will knew he was in the Byers' house. Maybe Vecna also will figure out how to use the Upside Down and try to intercept their plan, calling the house at that time.
Bonus: Arrival was in the s4 movie list inspiration. A movie that also plays with the concept that time is non-linear. The key to communicating with the aliens is understanding how they perceive time. You can read more about it in this analysis of the movie.
In conclusion: The Upside Down is a fifth dimension (a tesseract) where you can communicate with others dimensions, not only in the present.

Sink or Swim
Here's my fic for the Steddie Summer Exchange! :D
☀️ @steddiesummerexchange for @writer-in-theory ☀️
Stranger Things | Steddie | Rating: E | Words: 14976
Established Steddie, Scoops Ahoy! Eddie Munson, Lifeguard! Steve, Platonic Stobin, Eddie Munson and the Party
Chapters: 2/2
Read on Ao3
Notes: Thank you to the wonderful @sidekick-hero for your beta work on this! ❤️
Tumblr media
Summary: After defeating Vecna, everyone begins to solidify their summer plans. There’s college plans for Nancy and Jonathan, and Robin gets promoted to Store Manager at Family Video. Steve remains wary about their defeat against Vecna, which stunts his own summer plans and future. When he’s urged to apply for the open lifeguarding position, his life and relationship with Eddie fall into place in ways he didn’t imagine.
☀️ Sneak peek below! ☀️
When Steve entered his house after his shift at Family Video with Robin, he noticed the pile of shoes at the door first. Steve slipped off his sneakers and tossed them to the growing pile as Robin’s shoe thunked into the pile. Her purple chucks landed next to Max’s red pair, and Steve placed his sneakers near Dustin’s sandals. His gaze shifted to the black boots in the corner. Eddie was home.
“We made it through another shift, dingus,” she smiled. She still had on her Family Video vest and the new MANAGER pin shone in the evening light. “And I almost forgot it’s Hellfire: P.E. night.” She leaned against the wall to tug off her sneakers. Hellfire: Party Edition was a special campaign between Eddie and the kids and it was the only campaign they ran as one of the Party members as DM.
“Congrats to us. It feels like time stands still when I’m there,” Steve said dryly. He wondered if she felt as drained as he did. Family Video was the one functional hang-out spot in town, and with its influx of business and need for organization, Keith hired a freckle-face kid who was better at shelving than Steve was.
In what felt like punishment, Keith banished Steve to the back room to sort old rewinds. Steve was pretty sure they were Keith’s movie collection that he wanted labeled and put in alphabetical order.
“You could check with Hopper again,” Robin reminded him. “He’s probably got a list of other available jobs. Or knows someone who’s looking for an extra set of hands.”
“I know, I just…I feel like I should find one on my own.”
Steve trusted Hopper, it still felt odd asking for something he already had.
Besides, he did inquire about open jobs around town a few weeks ago, and Hopper referred him to the pool to be a lifeguard. The pool was far from his first choice, but the one thing about it was it wasn’t the dusty back room of Family Video. Sitting in the sun sounded better than becoming besties with the dust bunnies. Still, apprehension filled his chest at the thought of being shirtless in front of the people of Hawkins. His back and side were healed from the bat bites, but he was left with scars scattered across his torso, the worst of them at his sides. Most days Steve barely wanted to look at himself in the mirror.
Keep reading on Ao3!

Chapter 2: Damsel In Distress
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media

All while your dad and brother set up a little welcome home party as well as a meet the crew party, but things seem to take a sideways turn and not in a good way.
PAIRINGS: Biker!Eddie Munson x Teacher!Fem!Reader
PART 2 IN THE DARK PARADISE SERIES
CONTENT WARNINGS: MFW (can still be read at work), a little angsty towards the end, Part 2, Biker!Eddie Munson, Teacher!Reader, no use of y/n (though bug is used), implied pet names, she/her pronouns (but barley used), Reader is 24 (turning 25 soon), Eddie is 26, post-upside down, vecna is defeated (will be mentioned in later parts), language, angst, mentions of drugs, mentions of murder, rival biker gang
AUTHOR'S NOTE: Here is part 2, I hope you enjoyed it and are enjoying this series so far. I hope you enjoy this part, I apologize for it being so long, I thought about splitting it up but my gut was just telling me to keep going and end on a slight cliff hanger. It’ll be picked up in part 3 though so fear not. The ending that I had was not the intended direction I was heading for but I like how it ended so it's sticking, I just really got into writing this part which is why it's so long. Plus I’m a sucker for angst, so I had to have something in this part. As we progress through this series it will start to get more mature and will eventually be for readers over 18+ with eventual smut as well. I just haven't decided when it’ll get more mature and when the eventual smut will happen. I did make a playlist for this series, the link to the playlist can be found in the series masterlist under "word count". And if you’d like to be added to the permanent tags let me know in the comments or send me a message. And please feel free to send some asks if you wanna know more about Eddie and Reader’s relationship or other characters in the series. I would love that a lot, it makes me excited and happy about my series.

THE DARK PARADISE SERIES MASTERLIST
Tumblr media
The birds were chirping outside, you could hear them through the open window in your apartment. It was a warm night in the middle of August, which you thought was odd considering August seemed to have some hot days already. You turned on your air mattress and reached out for your phone that rested on the floor and had been connected to the charger. You watched the screen pop up so you could look at the time.
There was a text message from your brother and one from your dad. Luckily there was no text message from your ex. You had blocked the number she had used last night to contact you, but you wouldn't put it past her to get another number and start texting and calling you again. If that were the case you knew you would be turning your phone off a lot until you could get a new one.
After looking at the messages left from your dad and brother you decided to get ready so you could head out and look for a new teaching position. Your old school would be sending over whatever paperwork that would be needed for your hire. You had your resumé and portfolio ready. After getting ready for the day you grabbed everything you needed and headed towards your front door.
You opened the door and went to walk out only to see Eddie standing at your door ready to knock. A sudden gasp left your lips as Eddie stared down at you. You looked pretty today, Eddie couldn't deny that. The way you had dressed caused the man to smile and try and hide the blush that was creeping up his neck. You held onto your bag tightly. Your phone was in your pocket and your keys were in your left hand.
"What are you doing here?" You questioned, eyes scanning Eddie for any trace of a lie he might throw out.
"I came to see you, Bug." Eddie said, smirking after watching the roll of her eyes. So she likes to be a brat? He thought to himself as he continued to stare at you.
"Please don't call me Bug, that name is only reserved for Sam and my dad." You were stern when you told Eddie how you felt about the nickname.
"Okay, so what can I call you?" Eddie clearly wanted to know your name and you were definitely hesitant to tell him. Without a second thought crossing your mind your name dropped from your lips. Eddie smiled triumphantly. He repeated your name like he had been saying it all his life, and if you were being honest with yourself you really like how your name rolled off his tongue.
Then you wondered what he'd be like in the sheets, what he would be like with his tongue on you. Before you could get any further into the little thoughts you were having your phone started to ring. You forgot you had turned the sound back on. You answered the phone without checking who was calling you.
"Hello." You called out, Eddie was waiting for the phone call to end so he ended up leaning against the wall while you turned around and closed your door to look up.
"You are some bitch, you know that. You really think you can skip town on me and leave me behind."
You sighed and turned away from Eddie. He would still be able to hear everything but you didn't want him to see your face. You didn't want to see him the way she was making you feel.
"Jules, look, we broke up, I moved on, and you need to do the same." You tried to keep your voice calm and collected with Eddie right behind you but he could hear the break in your voice, he was sure Jules could hear it too.
"I'm not moving on, not until I have you back in my arms." Her tone of voice made you flinch slightly, something Eddie has also seen.
"That's never going to happen."
"You better believe it will. I'll-"
You ended the call before Jules could say another word to you. Your phone was quickly turned to silent and you shoved it back into your back pocket. Jules would definitely be calling you again, which meant you had to get a new phone now. Gathering yourself together you exhaled and turned around to look back at Eddie. He was still leaning against the wall.
His arms were crossed over his chest and a tattoo was peaking through slightly, not to mention you could get a better look at the few tattoos that rested on his fingers. It made him look super sexier, and it really helped that he was a biker.
"Sorry about that." You paused, while Eddie adjusted himself slightly. "It was my ex, she won't leave me alone. Jules, she thinks we're meant to be with each other, soulmates and all that bullshit."
"And you don't?" Eddie asked, he knew that maybe this was his way to get to know more about Sam's little sister.
"Well, my first ex before Jules, Mikey, he believed in all that crap and I did too. Thought he was the one I was supposed to be with but then the shit hit the window and things got bad so we broke up. Now he's in Cali fucking whoever and doing all the drugs, at least that's what I heard. Then I met Jules not even a few weeks after Mikey and I ended things and I thought she was perfect, but she was too perfect. Anyway, one thing after another happened and now here I am."
The two of you started walking down the steps. Eddie was right on your trail as he digested the new information you had given him. You still weren't going into much detail with the break-up between you and Jules but it was clear how much it was taking a toll on you. Then you stopped on the steps remembering that neither your dad nor Sam knew. Eddie stopped on the step above her, he was looking down at you and honestly it was kinda sexy.
"Please don't tell my dad, or Sam. I don't want them knowing that's the real reason I'm back in Hawkins. As far as they knew I had to leave my mom and step-father behind." You had only known this man less than a day and already you were making him keep a secret from his boss.
"You got it, princess." Though Eddie was certain that Allen and Sam would know before the week was out. It would either come out of his mouth, or you would slip, it was going to happen one way or another.
The two of you continued down the stairs of your apartment building until you finally made it to the sidewalk that led you to your car. Eddie had managed to park his bike next to your car. This allowed you to get a better look at it. His bike was a Harley Davidson, that much was clear. It also contained a design on it, most of the bike had been covered in webbing.
A large spider was in the center of the bike, standing still on the web that it seemed to have created. You looked closer at it and noticed that the spider must've been a Black Widow, because you could see the hourglass peeking through. Not to mention there were a few other hourglasses on his bike, but most were small and barely noticeable. The bike really seemed to suit Eddie, and honestly you kind of liked the way it looked.
"So where are you off to today?" Eddie questioned, as he leaned up against his bike at the same time you leaned against the hood of your car.
"I have to go to Hawkins Middle School to make sure they have all the paperwork for my transfer and I have to give them my resumé and portfolio." You paused for a minute. "They just wanted to make sure everything is good before I start working at the end of August."
You watched Eddie smile at the way you had yourself prepared for your job and you still had a few weeks to get ready. The only thing that really seemed to be crossing Eddie's mind was that he wanted to spend the day with you. It's why he had shown up at your door, hand ready to send a knock on the door at full throttle.
"Mind if I tag along with ya, princess?" Just the way his question rolled off his tongue had you a hot mess on the inside. Never in your life had someone made you feel this way. You didn't feel it with any one night stands and you definitely didn't feel it with Mikey or Jules. It was different with Eddie. You felt safe with him.
"I don't see why not." You looked at your car and then Eddie's bike. If you were being honest with yourself you wanted to ride on his bike. "Whose vehicle are we taking?" You had questioned, all while hoping he would just say his.
"We can take my bike." Eddie said softly, with a smile jumping to his lips as he stared at you.
"I guess it's a good thing I decided to go for a book bag today." You mumbled.
Eddie snickered at you. Meanwhile, you took your phone out of your pocket and placed it in your book bag with your keys. Before you dropped your keys into the bag you popped open the trunk. Walking to the back you grabbed the helmet that Sam had gifted you as an early birthday present. He gave it to you last night after Eddie and Steve had left and you felt that it would be safe and sound in the trunk of your car rather than your apartment.
When you closed your trunk and placed the helmet over your head, Eddie seemed shocked that you had come prepared. He stared at it, seeing their signature logo on the front of the helmet. Which prompted even more confusion. While you weren't a biker, you had ties to the club because your dead lead it and your brother was the second in command with Eddie and Steve right below him.
"Sam got it for me. An early birthday gift, I guess. Or maybe a welcome home gift." You smiled at Eddie as he turned on his bike and you climbed onto the back.
"When's your birthday?" Eddie adjusted himself slightly as you wrapped your arms around his waist tightly.
"At the end of August. August 31st to be exact."
"I'm glad I get to be here when you celebrate it."
"I'm turning 25, there's not much to celebrate. I'm just another year older that's all."
"I get that." Eddie paused as he backed up his bike out of the parking spot. "Better hold on tight, princess, don't want you fallin' off." You smiled, tightening your grip just a little more. Once Eddie knew you were secure around his waist he drove off heading for Hawkins Middle School.
───── ❝ ◂ ❚ ⊱ꕥ⊰ ❚ ▸ ❞ ─────
Eddie pulled up to the middle school and turned off his bike. You climbed off and took the helmet off, setting it where you had just been sitting. You looked at Eddie as he placed his brown eyes on you.
"I'll be waiting here when you're done. And when you're done I'm taking you into town, my treat." Eddie said, sternly.
"Eddie, you don't have to do that." You didn't want to turn him down but you also didn't want him to go out of his way to make plans with you. "Besides I'm sure Sam and my dad probably need your help with whatever they normally do." In that sense you were honestly completely clueless to what they actually did.
You knew that the club was big and that they often went out of their way to take care of things that Chief Hopper might not be able to take care of. You also knew that sometimes your dad and brother would go home with a bloody face or bloody knuckles, you knew not to ask questions when you saw it if you were on FaceTime. Basically you knew not to ask questions about work.
If they wanted to tell you they would. And you honestly didn't have a problem with that. You didn't want to really know about the horrors that they might be facing, or that they might be putting their lives on the line for the job. But at the end of the day you knew that they knew how to protect themselves. Eddie started to shake his head at you.
"Nonsense, if Allen or Sam need me they'll call me. If I'm needed for a job they know how to get in touch. But until that happens I'll be waiting here for you when you get out." There was that smile that Eddie already loved, he watched as it brightened your face. You found yourself sucking your bottom lip in-between your teeth to hide the smile on your lips.
"Okay, I shouldn't be too long. I'll be back in a little while." With those words you turned around and walked towards the front door of Hawkins Middle school. Back in New York you had spent the last two years teaching 8th grade. It was the grade that you wanted to teach and had been approved to teach in Hawkins.
As you walked into the school you headed towards the front looking for the office where you met with the principal and the assistant principal. It had been so long since you had stepped foot in the middle school, it was honestly strange to be back here as a teacher this time rather than a student. As you turned the corner you walked right into someone whom you assumed was another teacher.
"I'm sorry." You said, leaning down to help pick the papers from the ground.
"It's all right." She lifted from the ground as you did too. The woman in front of you had blond hair, it was a short length just above her shoulders. She was wearing a floral dress, and had nude heels on. "I'm Amy Willow, I teach 8th Science." She said introducing herself, then holding her hand out in front of you.
You took her hand in yours and shook it while telling her your name. "I will most likely be teaching 8th grade English. That's actually why I'm here, to get everything sorted out. I have a meeting with the principal and assistant principal." You explained.
"Oh, I can take you there. And then afterwards I can take you to your room. It's only a few doors down from mine."
"You know about me?" You were confused, but then again you wouldn't be surprised if they had already made a statement about how you would be joining them for the school year.
"Oh yeah, you're the gossip around here. Something new, we haven't had something new since the Earthquake a few years ago. Not to mention the Biker club around town. Though that one biker is kinda cute." You looked at her as you walked next to her.
"Which biker are you talking about?" You were hoping that she wasn't talking about Eddie, because you wanted nothing more than to have him to yourself. Though that thought would never see the day of light.
"He's probably a little taller than you, I think his dad runs the Wolves and he's like his second in command." You had the biggest shit eating grin on your face and Amy definitely picked up on it. "What?" She asked, with a chuckle falling out of her mouth after the chuckle.
"That is Sam, and he's my older brother."
"Oh, my god. That's embarrassing. I am so sorry."
"No, god, please don't be. Sam needs someone in his life other than my dad, and me, and the Wolves. I'd be happy to put in a good word for you." You looked at Amy, watching as her smile got bigger.
"You would do that?" The shock that dripped from her voice surprised you.
"Yes, I think you and Sam would be great together. Plus I am in dire need of some friends."
"I need some friends too. Most of the teachers don't like me. Guess cause I'm either too young or I'm too weird for them."
"How could you be too young? And honestly who cares if you're weird. Everyone's weird in their own way."
Amy gave a shrug, the two of you eventually coming to a stop outside the office. "I'm in my 20's, I went to school here a few years ago so it's weird for the teachers that know me. But anyway, here is the office. And this is my number. Feel free to text or call, or FaceTime, whatever your comfortable with and definitely give it to your brother."
"I will make sure your number makes its way into his phone. Thank you for showing me the way."
"You're welcome. I'll be just down the hall making some copies, please come get me when you're done and I'll show you to your room."
"Sounds like a plan." You took the piece of paper that had her number on it and shoved it in your pocket. Then after saying your goodbye to Amy you headed into the office to sit down and talk with the principal's. All went well and they gave you keys to get into the school and to get into your room. Afterwards you met up with Amy and she walked you to your room.
It was a little bigger than the room you had in New York. You couldn't wait to decorate and make the room yours. On the desk that rested at the front of the classroom had your work laptop as well as the curriculum for what you would be teaching this year. As you glanced over it you noticed that it was a little different from the curriculum that you had been teaching in New York.
This was the fresh start you desperately needed. And now that you had your classroom and your work computer, everything was falling into place. A smile tugged at the corner of your lips as you turned around in the classroom. While you had a lot of setting up to do for the classroom you knew it would be worth it in the long run. There was a knock at your door and you looked to see Amy.
"I'm heading out for the day, just wanted to say goodbye." Amy said.
"I'll walk with you, just give me a sec." Amy gave a nod of her head. You turned towards your desk and unzipped your book bag putting your laptop and the papers into it. Once it was zipped you walked out of the classroom walking with Amy.
"So, what are your plans for the rest of the day?" Amy questioned.
"Oh, I'm going to see the town, I don't really have a choice in the matter. And then my dad wants me to stop by later for something." You explained as the two of you walked out of the school. Your eyes found Eddie who was still leaning against his bike. "Do you wanna meet someone?" You asked, placing your eyes on Amy.
"Sure." She saw Eddie and seemed to be hesitant but followed behind her. Eddie picked himself up from his bike.
"Eddie, this is Amy Willow. We'll be working together in the next few weeks. Amy, this is Eddie Munson."
"Oh, you work with her brother Sam right?" Amy was in all smiles as she asked the question. Eddie was staring at her with a blank look, it seemed that he was studying her to determine if she would be safe enough around you.
"I do. He's one of my best friends." Eddie answered, causing you to look at him with a serious but playful look. Something of which Eddie took note of. You knew now that if you wanted to do something with Eddie you might just have to sneak around, it got you hot and bothered just thinking about it.
"Oooh that's so exciting. Well I should get going. I'll see you around." Amy turned to look at you. "If you need help setting up your room, just call down to my room or shoot me a text. And if you want to hang out over a glass of wine please let me know." Your laughter filled Eddie's ears as your smiled brightly at her. He couldn't help the little small smile that appeared on his lips.
"I will let you know. Thank you for being a huge help today. And I promise I'll put in a good word with Sam. I'll make sure you two have a date by the end of the week."
Shock ran across Amy's face, as Eddie exchanged a glance with you. You felt that this had been the most happy you had been since leaving New York. You were with a guy that you definitely felt growing feelings towards, and you had made your first friend.
"You really don't have to do that." Amy was insistent on it.
"Nonsense, I think it's the least I can do for someone whom I know will be my best friend, and maybe one day my sister-in-law." You and Eddie both saw the blush that crept on her face as she looked between you two. Amy gave a nod and eventually walked away. You moved over to Eddie and he looked at you.
"Give me one minute." Eddie said, he left you on his bike confused as he called out Amy's name. From a distance you watched the two make a brief interaction with each other. You watched her give Eddie a nod before they both turned away from each other. Amy was heading to her car again and Eddie was heading back to you.
"What was that all about?" You asked curiously, staring at the biker with soft eyes.
He gave a tight lipped smile, "just wanted to ask her something, that's all. You ready for the town tour?" Eddie questioned, trying to change the subject quickly.
"You know that I lived in Hawkins when I was younger, right?"
"I know, but I'm sure it's changed since you were last here."
You gave a slight nod with a shrug of your shoulders. Eddie climbed on his bike and turned it on. You placed your helmet over your hair and climbed onto the back of the bike, eventually wrapping your arms around Eddie's slim waist tightly. He smirked to himself, taking off heading down the road towards town.
───── ❝ ◂ ❚ ⊱ꕥ⊰ ❚ ▸ ❞ ─────
Your travels into the town had been short lived. Though what you had seen, you could tell just how much the town of Hawkins had changed since you had last visited it. You and Eddie were now heading to your dad's house as requested. Though you were still clueless as to why you were even going there. You had a small smile on your lips when Eddie pulled up to your dad's house.
"Here we are, princess." Eddie said, kicking the stand out and turning his bike off. You pulled your arms from Eddie's waist, and turned to look at the house you hadn't seen in so long.
"Home sweet home." You said, pulling your helmet off and holding onto the straps after you clipped them back together.
"How longs it been since you were here?" Eddie questioned as he placed his brown eyes on you.
Your eyes found his, "uh, I think about 10 maybe more than that, maybe less. I came for a few summers but then my mother didn't want me seeing my dad or brother anymore so I didn't see them for a long time, or this house. The only time I really saw my brother and dad was when I could FaceTime with them when I got a phone."
"Are you excited to be back home?" You walked towards the front door with Eddie following right behind you.
"Of course I am. I hated living in New York. Teaching up there was okay, but I hated everything the city had to offer. So yes, I am very happy to be back home with this quiet life."
"Hopefully it won't be such a quiet life." Eddie smirked at you. You looked back at him playfully.
"I don't think I will, not if you're planning to stay around."
"Well, I don't plan on going anywhere princess."
The door opens and you turn back around to see your older brother standing at the front door with a bright smile on his face.
"Why are you smiling like that, Sam?" You asked quizzically.
Sam looked at you and then at Eddie, but then his eyes fell back on you. "I have no idea what you're talking about, Bug." Sam grabbed your arm and pulled you into the house.
Eddie followed behind the two of you watching the sibling interaction. The lights turned on and everyone jumped out yelling surprise. The sudden noise caused you to panic slightly, you backed up into Eddie. The biker took notice of the way you suddenly changed at the voices that ran through your ears. But you calmed down when you felt Eddie slid his fingers into yours for just a brief moment.
You were quick to replace your panicked look with a happy one. Sam didn't take notice of the way you had reacted but like Eddie your dad had seen it too. He would make sure to pull you aside later and have a talk with you about it. Deep down it brought you back to the times where you and Jules would constantly argue with each other, not to mention the amount of times that your step-father would raise his voice to you.
Sam pulled you around to everyone, your fingers disconnected from Eddie's as you were pulled away. You were introduced to Chief Hopper and his wife Joyce. After you had meant them you had met the kids that Steve used to babysit before he became a part of the Wolves. Though they were in college now, you met all of them. Dustin Henderson was the first you had met followed by Mike Wheeler who was Nancy Wheeler's younger brother.
You met Will and El who were step-siblings, and their older brother Jonathan who was dating Nancy. Then you finally met Lucas and Erica Sinclair who had been standing with Max Mayfield. Eventually you noticed all the kids were hanging out with each other and talking about a game while they ate some food. Steve introduced you to his girlfriend, Becca Reynolds.
She was nice and you like her a lot. After you had met her, you finally met Robin and you knew almost instantly that you two would be best friends. The last person you least expected to be there had been one you already knew.
"Amy?" You asked, as she stuffed her face with a burger. She turned away from your father and looked at you and Sam. Eddie was elsewhere, most likely talking to Steve and Becca. She dropped her burger onto her plate and placed it on the counter. Your dad turned around and looked at you and your brother. "What are you doing here?" You questioned as the two of you hugged each other.
Sure you had just met earlier in the morning, but she was already your first real friend here in Hawkins. Like Eddie, and your dad and brother she was making Hawkins feel like a home again.
"Uh, Eddie, he invited me this morning. He thought you might like having someone you know here at the party." Amy answered, when she pulled back from the hug. You had a bubbly smile on your lips, your eyes found Eddie. He had been watching the entire interaction.
"Thank you." You whispered to him. Eddie only gave a nod and smiled back at you.
"So who is this? She seems to be the only one that we don't know." Sam said, pulling your attention back to the already ongoing conversation.
"This is Amy Willow, we'll be working together soon." You answered.
"It's nice to meet you Amy, I'm Sam. Bug's older brother." Sam said introducing himself to her. It seemed like you didn't need to do anything else because Sam was already so interested in Amy. You dad took that as a perfect opportunity to talk to you in his office. He excused himself as well as you and grabbed a hold of your hand pulling him with you.
"Dad, what are you doing?" You questioned, completely confused as to what was happening.
"We need to talk in my office." His words cut through your ears and you suddenly feared what he wanted to talk about. When you two were in his office and the door was closed and locked he sat down at the edge of his desk looking at you. "Tell me why you're really here, Bug." Allen said.
Your eyes found your father and took in the frame of his stance, he had locked the door so you knew neither of you would be leaving until you came out with the truth. You hadn't even been here for a week and he had already picked up on something. Though to be fair your dad could read you like a book. When you were involved you couldn't hide your emotions from him like you could with others.
Though you weren't doing a good job hiding it from Eddie because you had already spilled the news to Eddie. A deep sigh rippled through your chest, you walked over to one of the chairs in front of his desk and sat down. You tried to keep yourself calm but you found that didn't help much when you started bouncing your leg.
"Would you be okay if Eddie were in here?" You questioned, not looking up from your hands.
You dad didn't say anything, he stood up and walked towards the door and walked out leaving you alone with your thoughts. Allen knew that the second you came here that Eddie would be interested in you, because you were everything he wanted. And he knew it would be the same for you and by the look of it you two were already tugging at something.
"Munson!" Allen called out, Sam looked at Allen with a serious look on his face as he stopped the conversation between him and Amy.
"Everything okay, dad?" Sam questioned.
"Yeah, everything's fine. Make sure the guests are well fed, or get them in the pool." Allen ordered as Eddie walked up to him.
"Everything okay, sir?" Eddie inquired when he stopped in front of Allen.
"Come with me." Allen turned back around and walked down the hallway with Eddie following behind him. Sam did as told and got their guest and the rest of the Wolves outside where the pool was. Most of them had gone outside anyway but the rest were still inside. You looked up when your dad walked back into his office with Eddie on his trail.
"What's happening?" Eddie asked another question as the door was shut and locked.
Allen looked at Eddie and then at you. "I know what trouble looks like when I see it. So tell me, Bug, what did Jules do to you that made you run back home?" Allen questioned you.
"How do you know about Jules?" You were now utterly confused. You had only told your brother about Jules, you didn't want either of your parents to know. You knew both would be a pain because you were jumping into another relationship rather than taking a pause. "Sam told you, didn't he?"
"He did, and when I found out I had Hopper find everything he could find on her. Turns out Jules isn't her real name and she doesn't have a pretty past." Eddie looked at your dad with wide eyes, you having the same look on your face as well.
"What does that mean?" The question left Eddie's lips before he could stop it.
"It means that you're going to stay with my daughter and protect her until we can locate Jules and have her arrested for some kind of charge. You're the only boy I trust enough to protect my baby. I knew what was happening the second you told Sam you were coming back to Hawkins." Your dad explained.
"What did she do?" You asked, fearful of what you might learn about Jules.
"For starters her name isn't Jules, it's Jessica. She kept the same last name but changed her first name. If someone wants to go into hiding the way she did she should've changed her entire name. Secondly, Jessica Hartley killed her mother and father, and pleaded guilty to insanity. Before the trail was finished she escaped. She had the help of her ex-girlfriend before you, and well she didn't live to see another day because she's dead too. Now Jessica won't stop until you're dead and I'm not going to let her hurt you."
So much for a fresh start. You thought that to yourself, your dad and Eddie were talking to each other but you couldn't hear their voices. The only thing you could actually hear was a ringing in your ears that wouldn't seem to go away. Not only had she lied to you about who she was but now she might just be on her way to kill you. The panic was starting to settle in the pit of your stomach. You took a deep breath in and exhaled.
"Where is Jessica now? Is she still in New York?" You heard Eddie ask your father.
"I have some of the boys up in New York checking out her apartment. I'm hoping that she's still there and we don't have to prepare for any kind of war that she might want to start."
You stood up from your chair, keeping your eyes on your father. Eddie and Allen were staring at you. "Why would you have to prepare for a war?"
"Because Jessica Hartley is the actual daughter of one of our largest and painfully annoying rival groups. They are mostly located in California, but they have some in New York too. They're the reason Jessica killed her parents, her ex was a part of the group but her dad had her kill her. And well now he wants you dead because he can't get anywhere near me or Sam."
"Fuck." You breathed out, now you really wished you had seen the red flags. You lifted your hand to your throat and started rubbing it.
"Honey, you're gonna be okay. Eddie's gonna stay with you and watch out for you. Not to mention Amy will be watching you while you're at work, and Robin will be there too. Eddie can make as many stops to the school as he needs to if that's something you want."
"What? Are you saying Amy fucking works for you?" Allen could see that what he had said wasn't helping you.
"She does and doesn't. Her dad was a ranger out in Texas before he moved out here. I trusted her father and I trust her, she knows how to use a gun and how to fight. She's still a teacher but she will protect you if needed."
"No." You said sternly, eyeing your father.
"If Jules is coming after me then you're going to use me as bait. You're going to train me how to protect myself and I expect to be a part of this after it's over."
"No, I'm not letting you get in on this, I barely wanted your brother with me. You have a good life as a teacher."
"I can barely afford the apartment I'm living in. And yes I love teaching the kids and for the remainder of this year I'll still teach, but I want in dad. I'm not going to be some damsel in distress. I'm not gonna sit on the sidelines while Eddie, Amy, and Robin try to protect me from my psycho ex girlfriend who I wished I had seen the red flags before I got involved with her. I am doing this."
Eddie and Allen exchanged a look with each other. "What do you think, Munson?" Allen questioned, hoping he would side with him.
"I think your daughter is tough, and I think this plan would work. Maybe Bug here is the key to taking down the Stingers. Maybe this is how we get on top of them. I can't believe I'm saying this but I agree with princess over there." Eddie said, having your back.
Allen released an angry sigh as he looked at the two. This is not what he had in mind at all. But he knew deep down that this plan might just allow them to put a stop to the Stingers before any more damage could be done.
"Okay, fine. But your training starts tomorrow. Eddie is still staying with you. And we have to wait for the call to decide where we go from there." Allen explained.
"What call?"
"We're waiting to see if Hartley is still in New York."
"And if she's not?"
"Then you're gonna have to be a damsel in distress."

el has never been able to kill vecna. she wins the battle by casting him away, but she fails to win the war. he's patient zero for powers, absorbed the powers of all the lab kids, has the upside down and all of its monsters on his side, and has even absorbed her powers.
she's a force to be reckoned with, but she's not stronger than him. not even with the help of everyone fighting together and hitting vecna from every single angle was she able to defeat him. she isn't the cure, she wasn't the right choice, the risk did not pay off, they rolled the die and they came up short, the odds were not on their side, and blahblahblah insert every other phrase that people used in this season alone to defend that choice here.
she fights, but she doesn't come up with plans. she knows him from her childhood, but she doesn't have direct access to his mind. she's brave, and she's strong, and she's powerful, but it's not enough to win on her own in a one-on-one fight.
will knows vecna's plans. he knows how he thinks, what he thinks. he has a direct status update on how he's doing. he's the first to know when something is happening regarding the upside down and vecna. he's familiar with the upside down, with possession, with the man that's eluded them for so long. he has access to invaluable knowledge that no one else does. it's not something that he has to think about—he just knows. and he's never been wrong.
the demogorgons knew where he was, but they never killed him or camped at his house. we know that he was dragged to the library, which is where the rifts collide, instead of being instantly killed like so many other victims. we know that he manipulated the lights in a way that is different to how the teens did it in season four, and that he also managed to make them move in a circle the way that the lab kids did. we know that there was a point in time when vecna wanted to kill everyone but him. we know that there was a time when vecna wanted him and sent in dogs to get him back. time in the upside down is stuck not on the day that el first opened the gate at eight years old, but on the day that will entered it. furthermore, if henry entered the upside down as we know it on that day years ago, then that also means that will was able to shape it to look like hawkins.
dustin rolled an eleven and lost. eleven went against vecna with the help of everyone and lost. the gates opened up and max is now missing. it's a repeat of season one. everyone that told them this was a risky idea and that they weren't ready was right.
meanwhile, mike and will worked together as a team with no daylight between them in season two, and they managed to close the gate and save the world. they failed to do that in season four, because they were keeping things from each other and thus weren't working as a true team. when they finally start being entirely truthful with each other again in season five, we'll undoubtedly see them save the day again.
will told el that they would fix this together. erica subbed for lucas against vecna, rolled a twenty, and won. will was positioned next to a "the cure" poster, is the only person truly aware of vecna, has a greater connection to the upside down than we previously thought and capabilities that we've yet to uncover, cast the winning fireball against their campaign villains before, was associated with the number twenty and one, has beat the odds more than once, is vecna's character foil, and is confirmed to be getting a bigger focus next season.
it's all right there.

March 25th, 1987 .
To say that Steve was going through a ‘roller-coaster of emotions’ wouldn’t do the situation justice.
He was still riding out the elated high and light-headedness from kissing Eddie while simultaneously being confused about the fact that Eddie had kissed him back, worried that his friends were injured, dying, or already dead, furious that Vecna was over there, right that second, getting away with it, and petrified at the implications of Eddie getting away - all while being fully aware that he had no time to think about any of it or what it all meant.
He had to get back to the rest of the party. Fast.
He bolted between the trees and back to the street in record time now that he didn’t have to worry about stepping on the vines. Vecna knew where he was and he knew that Steve was coming, regardless of whether or not he alerted the hive mind.
He ran around the corner and skid to a halt, his eyes widening at the sight of billowing smoke rising from the Creel house in the distance.
A large ball of fire exploded from the left of the decaying building, the echoes of an almighty boom and shattering glass ricocheted from building to building until they made their way to Steve’s ears. The circling Demobats screeched in delight, a number of them breaking formation to fend him off.
What if he was too late?
With his heart in his mouth and his trusty spiked bat readied in his firm grip, Steve charged toward the bats at full throttle.
Blood spattered as nails collided with their tough leathery skin while their agonising screeches drowned out any distinguishable noise Steve could hear coming from the Creel house. Claws stung as they scratched effortlessly at his skin but he didn’t relent, pushing further forward as he fought through the swarm of wings attacking him.
Then he ran. Ran as fast and far as he could before a tug at his left ankle caused him to topple forward, his face scraping the asphalt as he landed in a heap. A sharp, burning pain radiating through his calf caused him to cry out as he attempted to wrestle himself free from the bat’s grip.
It was difficult. The accumulation of blood, sweat, and tears on his hands was causing the bat’s tail to slip out of his grasp repeatedly, all the while its fangs were sinking deeper into his flesh. Eventually, he managed it. Steve took the bat’s tail in his balled-up fist and dragged himself to his feet, swinging it over his head and down onto the ground over and over again, until— “Jonathan!”
It was deafening.
He continued onwards, refusing to let his newest injury slow him down. The heat emitting from the burning building caused beads of sweat to pool on Steve’s forehead as clumps of ash wafted through the air around him, falling to the ground like the first delicate snow of winter.
“Dustin?!” he yelled, his eyes landing on a familiar head of curls. “Dustin!”
“Steve!” he exclaimed, running towards him. “Why are you limping? Where’s Eddie?”
Steve gulped. “He’s not here?”
“Here? Why would he- look out!”
The pair dropped to the ground, narrowly avoiding a swooping Demobat. Dustin jabbed at the bat with his spear, causing it to fall lifelessly to the ground beside them.
“Why would he be here? He’s supposed to be with you,” Dustin finished.
“About that-”
“You let him get away?! We’re getting our asses handed to us on a silver platter and you’re telling me that he’s still out there, ready to attack, at any moment?”
The news had gone down just about as well as Steve had thought it would. “We don’t have time for this.”
Dustin let out an annoyed sigh and rubbed his temple. “Fine. El and Will are inside. Lucas, Erica, and Jonathan got caught in the vines, and most of the undead are down for now but it’s only a matter of time before they get back up.”
“And Robin? Is she alive?”
Dustin raised his hand, his index finger pointing to a shimmering, iridescent dome on the ground off to the right of the battle. “She’s alive. Still out cold, but alive. Erica’s idea - Globe of Invulnerability. They can’t hurt her.”
It was only when Steve got within spitting distance of the battle that he realised the full extent of just how fucked they actually were.
The left side of the dilapidated house had all but collapsed. Thick, black smoke billowed through the broken windows as the tall flames inside continued to dance, and smouldering planks of wood fell from the top story, landing haphazardly amidst the bodies and chaos of the fight below.
“Stay down!” yelled Mike, brandishing his weapon at the twitching corpse by his feet.
The restrained members of the party thrashed violently against the vines, their efforts to free themselves remaining futile - all lined up on the columns holding up the crumbling exterior of the house, forced to watch the horror unfolding in front of them.
Nancy clawed at the vine around Jonathan’s waist, tugging and pulling with her entire body weight until she landed on the ground with a thud and a defeated look across her face.
Kas was right - they were losing.
The body nearest to Steve twitched and groaned as it rose to its feet, the sound of its bones crunching back into place sending a shiver down his spine. “Harrington.”
“Oh, for fucks sake, Hargrove,” he sighed, exasperated. “Don’t get me wrong, killing you is immensely satisfying but it’s getting a bit old now. Don’t you think?”
Billy launched himself at Steve fist first, a right hook colliding with the side of his already bruised and swollen face. Unluckily for Billy, it was the very thing he’d needed to snap him into action.
Steve swung his bat straight at Billy’s head, striking again and again without giving him a chance to compose himself until he was back on the ground, bloody and lifeless, but it wasn’t over. As soon as Billy went down, Heather got up. Once Heather was down, Barb got up. Then it was Fred. Then Chrissy. Then Patrick.
Over and over the undead died and rose again in an ungodly cycle of resurrection, bringing nothing but an increasingly stronger wave of violence each time they were back on their feet.
“Guys, hurry up!” Dustin yelled towards the door of the Creel house, his spear jabbing at the Demobats circling above his head. “We’re dy— fuck!”
Out of the corner of his eye, Steve saw Dustin fall to the ground. He stabbed his spear into the dirt, holding onto it for dear life as vines pulled at his ankles.
Another bite to the calf caused Steve’s knees to buckle momentarily and a frustrated sob escaped from his lips. He pulled the bat from his leg with a grimace, turning his attention back to his friends.
“Nance, help!” Mike cried. The vines had taken him while he’d tried to free Dustin, dragging him toward the columns. “Help!”
Perhaps they really were fighting a losing battle?
Nancy was a mess. Her usual bouncy curls were limp and damp, matted throughout with blood and dirt. Mascara covered her cheeks as tears and sweat streamed down her face while she fought, her movements becoming more panicked and less thought out. Then she did the unthinkable.
Steve saw the last glimmer of hope in her eyes die out as she dropped to her knees, allowing the vines to creep in around her to claim their victory.
“No!” he yelled, pleading with her to keep going. “I know you’re tired but we can’t give up!”
“Is that so, Steve?” a voice growled from the doorway.
The undead stopped in their tracks, ceasing their attack to make their way to their master’s side.
Finally, they were face to face once more.
“You motherfucker!” Steve cried out, the monstrosity that was Vecna himself staring back at him.
Vecna descended the front steps, the unconscious bodies of El and Will levitating behind him. With a wave of his hand, the vines slithered around their limbs and tied them up alongside the others.
“I warned you that you could not win. I warned you all,” Vecna began, his reference to the party silencing their anguished cries of protest. “I told you what would happen if you came after me, and now your poor little friends are going to watch you die an agonising, painful death before they too die at my hand.”
“If anyone’s going to die, it’ll be you!” he exclaimed.
Vecna sneered at his outburst. “You’re pathetic - Nothing more than a boy with a baseball bat.”
“I won’t let you take them. Take Hawkins.”
“You will have no choice!” Vecna roared, thunder booming in the distance as he did so. “I will rid this world of all the filthy vermin poisoning it just as I had always planned to do and there is nothing you can do to stop me. Your efforts will be, and always have been, futile. Your dear friend Eleven is realising that now. Hawkins will burn. My undead army will stand tall and we will—”
A small ball of fire flew into Steve’s eyeline and collided with Vecna, causing the sounds of shattering glass and a loud bang to echo throughout the now quiet Upside Down. Vecna let out a groan as the flames grew rapidly, engulfing him.
Steve’s head span and he locked eyes with Robin, already lighting a second Molotov cocktail. Then he blinked, and she too was flying through the air towards the others. A quick twitch of Vecna’s neck had the vines entangle themselves around her and the flames encasing him died down.
“Did you honestly think that you could kill me? That you could turn my Lieutenant against me and save the day?” Vecna taunted, approaching nearer with a threatening snarl. “You think yourself the hero, Steve Harrington, but you are wrong. Let me show you who you really are.”
Steve’s legs locked and he fell to his knees, unable to move. He opened his mouth to protest but another twitch of Vecna’s neck had it snapping back shut, leaving him unable to do anything but watch with wide, panic-stricken eyes as Vecna’s outstretched hand inched closer to him until it was hovering over his face.
The last thing he heard was Robin and Dustin crying his name before his eyes rolled into the back of his head.
-
Steve opened his eyes to find himself in a dark room, his chest heaving as the fear within him rose.
“Help!” he yelled involuntarily, the voice escaping his lips sounding childlike and timid.
His heart rate spiked as footsteps approached before he heard a door knob click and a figure stepped into the room. “What’s wrong with you now?”
His mouth moved of its own accord once more. “I’m scared.”
“Of what?”
“I think there’s a monster in the closet. I heard a noise.”
The figure let out a sigh before responding. “We’ve been through this a million times. There’s no such thing as—”
“Please, Dad,” Steve begged, his lips trembling as his eyes began to well up.
“I’ve had enough of this!” he exclaimed, taking Steve by the wrist and dragging him toward the very closet in question. “I didn’t raise you to be such a fucking sissy.”
Steve kicked and screamed as much as he could but it was to no avail, he was too small and weak to free himself of his father’s grip. He landed in the closet with a thud and began to sob hysterically the moment he heard the key turn in the lock.
“You can stay in there until you can tell me there’s no such thing as monsters,” his father sneered. “Now stop crying before I give you something to cry about!”
He cried and cried for his father. Cried until his throat felt raw and his tears had dried up, but he never came. Steve curled into a ball and tucked his chin into his knees, eyes closed tightly as he rocked.
“Hurry up, Steve!”
A wave of confusion mixed with the terror he was already feeling. He calmed his breathing and called out to the voice.  "Mom?”
“We’re going to be late for Church. Get dressed and get out here right now.”
Confusion spread across his face. He hadn’t been to Church since he was fourteen years old - not that he minded, though, he’d always hated it as a kid. The sermons were boring and the music was terrible. He also didn’t believe a single word of it.
He tried the door once more to find that it was now unlocked and stepped out into what he expected to be his bedroom. Only it wasn’t.
It was cold and echoey. Rows of pews filled with people wearing their Sunday best conversing in polite chit-chat surrounded Steve, his mother’s hand on his shoulder guiding him to their seats.
“Mr Mullner, it’s a pleasure,” his father beamed, shaking the hand of the man next to him. “This is my wife, Sophia, and my son, Steve. Mr Mullner has just transferred to my department at work.”
“The pleasure is all mine, Mr Harrington,” Mr Mullner replied. “This is my wife, Clara, and my son, Alex.”
The small boy peered around his father and smiled at Steve. “Hi. Wanna sit with me?”
The pew beneath Steve disappeared and he fell backward, the breath in his lungs being sucked out of him until he felt himself land on what felt like grass.
“Are you even listening to me?” asked Alex.
Steve turned to the left and saw a pair of curious, green eyes staring at him. The boy looking at him was taller than before, a couple of years older than he’d been at the Church. “Sorry, thought I saw something. What were you saying?”
“The bruise on your eye. Where did you get it?”
“Oh, you know me. Always getting into fights these days,” Steve deflected, unable to bring himself to tell his friend the truth.
Alex knew, he was sure of it, but never pushed Steve to elaborate further. He stared back at his friend and everything around them distorted, warping into something new.
It was dark now, the moon full and the night sky scattered with stars. He was laid on his back, a lit cigarette between his index and middle fingers. He took a long drag and exhaled, suddenly noticing the weight on his chest. A head of messy blonde hair moved in rhythm with the rise and fall of his breaths, the owner’s fingers entangling themselves with Steve’s.
“Steve, we need to talk about this,” sighed Alex.
“Talk about what?” Steve replied automatically, still unable to physically say the words he wished he could now he’d had time to fit all the puzzle pieces together.
How different his life might have been if he had.
Alex raised his head slightly to look at Steve and thrust their still-entwined hands in front of his face. “This.”
“We’re holding hands?”
“Exactly.”
“So what?”
Alex let out another sigh. “Friends don’t hold hands.”
“Of course they do,” Steve argued.
“Girls do. How many fourteen-year-old boys do you see holding hands and cuddling?”
Steve remembered how hot and uncomfortable he’d felt the first time he’d heard those words. “They probably do it in private,” he gulped. “Like we do.”
“Do you really believe that?”
“I don’t what you’re trying to get at, but I can assure you I’m not—”
“What are you boys doing?!” shouted a familiar voice.
Steve remembered. He didn’t need Vecna to show him what happened next for him to ‘know’ what kind of a person he was - he already knew.
“Father Quint,” Steve greeted, jumping to his feet. “Lovely night, isn’t it? Very clear skies. I was just pointing out a constellation to Al—”
“I saw what you were doing,” he replied sternly.
“Father?”
“I saw you two holding hands. Just you wait until your father hears about this, boy. He’ll—”
“Holding hands?!” Steve repeated, his heart rate rising once more. “We were not!”
Alex gulped and took a few steps back.
“No? What were you doing then?”
“Smoking,” Steve lied. “I heard footsteps so I gave the cigarette to Alex. Don’t want my dad finding out, Father.”
Father Quint stayed silent for a moment, eyeing Steve with great suspicion. “Both of your families will be hearing about this. Come on, I’m taking you home.”
The ground beneath him gave way and Steve found himself balled up against the floor, the cold wood pressed against his cheek a stark contrast to the rest of his face.
“You expect me to believe that?” his father’s voice boomed. “Do you take me for a fool, Steve?!”
“I swear, Dad. I was just smoking. Please,” he pleaded.
His father’s fingers tugged at the hair on his head, pulling him upward until they were face to face. “I didn’t raise you to be a fucking fag.”
“I’m not. Please—”
It wasn’t the first time his father had beaten him or by any means the last, but it was certainly the most memorable beating he’d ever had to endure at his father’s hand. The one that shaped him in the worst way possible during his formative years.
“Dad, please, stop,” he begged, shielding his face from the incoming blow.
“You are no fucking son of mine.”
Steve didn’t watch his surroundings distort this time, unable to bring himself to open his eyes. He just laid there, eyes closed and his arms across his face while he felt the floor underneath him give way and he was falling once again. He didn’t peek. Didn’t even move. Just hoped and prayed that if he stayed there, still, then maybe he wouldn’t have to endure whatever was next to come. Then he heard it - The tapping at his window.
His body betrayed himself once more, his legs forcing him over to the window so he could face the very moment that changed the trajectory of his life toward a downward spiral. Nothing more than a mere spectator to the shit show that was his own existence.
“You know you can’t be here,” he urged in a hushed tone, his head hanging out of his bedroom window. “If my Dad finds out you’re— What the fuck happened to your hair?”
Alex looked up at him, his eyes sad and his curls gone. “Steve, they’re sending me away.”
“What?”
“They’re sending me away,” Alex repeated, his lips quivering. “Some camp out in the wilderness. I don’t know when I’m coming back. If I’m coming back. I leave tomorrow morning.”
Steve wanted the ground to swallow him whole knowing what was about to come out of his mouth, no matter how hard he fought against it. “That’s good, isn’t it?”
“Good?!” Alex repeated, his voice no longer a whisper. “How is—”
Steve glanced over his shoulder, instinctively checking the crack beneath his door for signs of movement. “Lower your voice.”
“How is that good?! You do understand, don’t you? I don’t know when I’ll see you again.”
“I understand,” he replied, a false coolness to his tone. The hurt on Alex’s face was evident even in the dim light of the waning moon.
“Then how can you possibly think that’s good?”
“Dad said that you’ve got something wrong with you. That it’s rubbing off on me,” he answered.
Hearing those words come out of his mouth now made him feel sick to his stomach.
“That’s why they want to keep us apart, isn’t it? So you don’t rub off on me. Maybe he’s right.”
“You don’t mean that,” Alex sobbed. “Please-”
“You need to leave.”
“Steve, I love-”
“I’m not a fucking fag,” Steve declared, closing the window and sliding onto the ground with his back against the wall before Alex had a chance to respond.
That was the last time he ever saw him.
The wall behind him gave way and he fell, hurtling through the dark void for a couple of seconds until he landed on his feet and the smell of musty sweat assaulted his nostrils.
“Not your best practice but definitely not your worst,” teased Tommy. “Now would you hurry the hell up? Carol’s waiting for us.”
“Yay,” he replied sarcastically, grabbing his bag from the locker. “Another night of watching you two suck face.”
Tommy exited the locker room first, colliding shoulder-first with the person on the other side of the door. “Watch where you’re going, freak.”
“Fuck off, Hagan,” the student replied.
Tommy stood his ground in the doorway. “Did you hear that, Steve? I think Munson here needs a little reminder of how he got that scar that he covers up with his watch.”
Steve caught up with Tommy and peered over his shoulder at the situation unfolding before him. The voice inside of his head screamed and pleaded to say anything else. Do anything else. Anything but agree.
“I think he does.”
No wonder Eddie thought he was an asshole.
The floor underneath his feet disappeared, the jolt it caused in his stomach no longer as jarring as before. He was getting used to it now.
“Is that supposed to impress me?”
Steve sank into a chair, the cool breeze hitting his face bringing him back to his senses rather quickly. “You’re not?” he replied, turning to face Nancy.
“You are a cliché, you do realise that?”
He fiddled with the lighter in his hands, an unlit cigarette hanging from his lips. “You’re a cliché… With your grades and your band practice.”
Nancy let out a chuckle. “I’m so not in band.”
“Okay, party girl. Why don’t you just, uh, show us how it’s done then?”
He watched, smiling, as Nancy showed off and shot-gunned a beer while Tommy and Carol cheered her on in the background.
He remembered how on top of the world he’d felt that night. Little did he know that unthinkable horrors would take place right there, moments later, whilst he was upstairs with Nancy focusing on one thing only.
Himself.
He felt the chair he’d just sank into give out beneath him, causing him to fall through the void once more.
“Stop it!” he called out to the darkness. “Please, just stop. I get it. I know who I am. I know what I’ve said.”
“‘Please’ isn’t a word that works on me, Steve,” growled Vecna’s low voice. “Besides, aren’t we having fun?”
Fun wasn’t a word that Steve would use to describe the situation. Daunting, perhaps. Evil. Cruel. Traumatising. All of the above.
If everything that he’d been taught about dying whilst growing up was true and your life really did “flash before your eyes” as your soul departs then Steve knew he was right to fear death all along, despite everyone telling him otherwise. Who wouldn’t fear having a first-row seat to a show of their worst moments playing back-to-back?
Steve felt his feet collide with the ground beneath them, the sounds of metal clacking and traffic filling his ears. Then—
“Hey there, Princess."
This was not his finest moment.
“Uh-oh. She looks upset,” taunted Tommy.
Steve knew what was coming. He’d known what was coming the first time it happened, he’d of been a fool to expect anything different. Plus, he deserved it. Nancy Wheeler, her face like thunder, marched right up to him and swung. Her palm collided with his left cheek, and a warm sting spread through his face.
“What is wrong with you?!” she asked.
“What’s wrong with me? What’s wrong with you? I was worried about you,” he replied. “I can’t believe I was actually worried about you.”
“What are you talking about?”
As per usual, Carol interjected. “I wouldn’t lie if I were you. You don’t want to be known as the lying slut now, do you?”
“Speak of the devil,” interrupted Tommy, a smirk spreading across his face as he watched Jonathan Byers walk towards them.
“You came by last night?” asked Nancy. He could almost see the cogs turning in her head.
Carol laughed. “Ding, ding, ding! Does she get a prize?”
Steve tried as hard as he could to mentally check out for the rest of that particular memory. He didn’t need to focus on the details. He already knew.
He’d tell Nancy to “go to hell” followed by calling Jonathan a “queer.” He’d call him “ a screw-up” like the rest of his family, saying it was no surprise what happened to Will. Then he’d call the entire Byers family “a disgrace” and, rightfully so, Jonathan would punch him in the face.
He was on the ground now, taking punch after punch from Jonathan while Tommy, Carol, and Nancy cried out in protest, begging Jonathan to stop. Steve didn’t want it to stop. Not anymore.
It didn’t hurt. He was getting numb to it, enjoying it almost in his own twisted way. Maybe it was because it made him feel alive in such dire circumstances. Maybe it was the guilt.
“This is who you are, Steve,” called the familiar growling voice. He was in the void again.
When he opened his eyes he was staring at a wooden door, one hand already pushing it open before he could even try to stop himself.
“It’s not coming off, Nance,” he tried to reason, watching as Nancy swayed while trying to scrub the red stain out of her white shirt. “Let me take you home. Come on.”
“You want— You wanted this,” she slurred.
“No, I didn’t want this. I told you to stop drinking.”
He’d already relived this memory over a hundred times without Vecna toying with his mind.
“It’s bullshit.”
“No, it’s not bullshit. Okay?”
“Bullshit.”
“No, it’s not bullshit, Nancy,” he argued.
She stopped for a second before looking at him dead in the eyes. “No, you. You’re bullshit.”
“What?”
“You’re pretending like everything is okay. You know, like we… like we didn’t kill Barb. Like we’re in love and we’re partying,” she confessed. Steve remembered why she wasn’t a big drinker these days. “Let’s party, huh? We’re partying… This is bullshit.”
The words stammered as they left Steve’s lips. “Like we’re in love?”
“It’s bullshit.”
Vecna’s taunting laugh reached his ears, echoing off the walls and bouncing around the room over and over until he was falling again.
“You’re okay, Steve, I promise. Steve— Hey, look at me. You’re okay.”
“I work at Scoops. I work at Scoops. I’m not a spy, I swear. I work for Scoops.”
He was on his living room floor, balled up with his arms around his knees, rocking back and forth as tears streamed down his face.
They’d been having a quiet night in, him and Robin. Ice cream and movies being the only two items on the itinerary, just like always. They were two movies and one pint of ice cream deep when Steve had heard a Russian accent during one of the scenes and it sent him spiralling.
“I work at Scoops. I work at Scoops. I’m not a spy, I work for Scoops,” he repeated through muffled sobs. Robin tried to place a hand on his shoulder but he flinched away from her touch, jumped to his feet, and ran towards his bedroom to lock himself away.
That was the first time he’d tried to drown out the voices in his head with vodka.
“Are you starting to see?” Vecna asked as Steve slipped into the void.
“See what?” he responded, preparing himself for the next taunt.
“How all of this lead you here, to me.”
His body began reacting to its surroundings before Steve could process where he was, his arms and legs thrashing against the tight grip of the vines around his limbs and throat.
“What do we do?!” cried Robin, attempting to tug her arms free.
Nancy too fought tirelessly to free herself. “I don’t know!”
Any minute now the vines would release them and they’d charge upstairs to try and kill Vecna, all three of them blissfully unaware of the fact they were only free because Eddie was out there, alone, sacrificing himself to the bats so that they could finish the job.
Only this time Steve knew. He knew and there was nothing he could do except watch the horrific event unfold in front of him.
The vines released them and Robin declared that despite not believing in a higher power or divine intervention, their freedom was a miracle. The three of them climbed to the attic, weapons in hand.
He willed his body to stop, too exhausted to carry on and face what was to come but his legs continued onward until he was staring straight at Vecna.
Steve threw the first Molotov cocktail. The bottle collided with Vecna and the flames engulfing him brought him out of his trance, not a moment too soon for Max. Robin threw the next one, causing Vecna to stagger backward slightly as he made his way towards them. Nancy stepped forward, staring down the barrel of her sawn-off shotgun that was aimed right ahead.
He counted the shots in his head, knowing that when he got to four Vecna would fall out of the window and they’d all race outside hoping to find his corpse, only to be greeted with nothing except scorched earth.
“Do you hear that?” asked Robin after a few seconds of processing their defeat.
Nancy looked out towards the sound. “Sounds like screaming. Is that- Is that Dustin?”
Steve’s stomach dropped just as much as it had done the first time.
He sprinted toward Dustin, the sight of him hunched over Eddie becoming clearer the closer he got while Robin and Nancy were ten paces behind, struggling to keep up.
“Dustin!?” he called. “What happened?”
Dustin raised his head, locked eyes with Steve, and slowly shook his head.
Eddie was dead.
Steve dropped to his knees at their side, one hand on Dustin’s shoulder and the other clutching Eddie so tightly he thought his fingers would snap.
They sat there completely silent for a few moments, except for the gasps and sobs when Nancy and Robin caught up with him, until Dustin spoke quietly. “What do we do now?”
Steve’s stomach flipped and the limb clutched in his palm disappeared, his fist tightening instinctively at its absence.
He wasn’t sure where he was this time, his vision was too blurred and his head hurt too much to make anything out. All he knew was his throat felt like sandpaper and he could smell grass.
“Back so soon, Steve?” a voice asked.
Steve’s head spun to face the voice so quickly that his stomach churned. “Huh?”
“How much have you had to drink this time? It’s me, Wayne,” he answered, prying Steve off of the ground. “Up you get.”
He felt himself sink into a seat and he heard a faint click as his head slumped onto his shoulder. A moment later Wayne spoke again. “Third time this month I’ve found you outside of that old trailer. You okay, kid?”
“Fine,” he lied, followed by a hiccup.
Wayne sighed. “You don’t seem fine. Seem drunk as a skunk, if you ask me.”
"M'fine.”
“So fine that I’m having to take you home again? It’s okay if you’re not, you know. I’m not. I miss him every single day.”
“Not fair,” Steve slurred. “Didn’t deserve to die. Shouldn‘t have been him. Should’ve been me. Wasn’t right.”
“Don’t say shit like that, kid.”
"S'true. Should’ve been—”
He was falling again. Falling and falling until his knees collided with the hard ground beneath him and he let out a loud gasp, the cries of his name ringing in his ears.
He’d escaped Vecna’s trance.
A glint of silver whooshed passed Steve and the hand that had been hovering in front of his face fell to the floor with a thump.

Ah, the age-old question: is Vecna really the puppet master, or is all that string imagery proof that he was the puppet all along?
Tumblr media
This question is always framed in terms of who is really manipulating whom, and even interpretations which see him and the Mind Flayer as a team tend to assume there’s going to be an inevitable betrayal in which one will rise as The Ultimate Big Bad.
But personally, I don’t see it that way; I think they have a more symbiotic relationship than that.
To see why, let’s take a look at another villain from the show:
Tumblr media
Jason is a charismatic leader who knows how to rally groups into action, and this skill allows him to amplify his personal mistrust of outcasts like Eddie into a full-blown, town-wide witch hunt.
By the end of S4, the hysteria he whipped up has gained so much momentum that not even his nor Eddie’s death can stop it. The Hawkins Satanic Panic becomes something greater and more powerful than himself -- but crucially, it also could not have existed without him in the first place.
Tumblr media
The Mind Flayer is much like Hawkins: not a single entity, but a collection of them. It was a formless cloud of particles before Henry got his slimy mitts on it, and the show has strongly hinted that these particles are the mechanism by which the Upside Down’s hive mind exists.
So Henry can be thought of as the charismatic leader of the hive mind. His ideas are the ones that drive the mind’s actions, but like Jason, that doesn’t necessarily make him a puppet master -- more of an inspiration. I don’t think the hive mind had any inherent agenda of its own before he came along, much as the people of Hawkins didn’t have an agenda beyond simply existing before Jason gave them a misguided cause to rally around.
This is the true horror of the Mind Flayer: it’s a reflection of how easily bigoted attitudes can become entrenched in a society of well-meaning individuals, and how overwhelmingly difficult it is to resist those attitudes when you’re targeted by them.
Tumblr media
But conformity isn’t the only theme being reflected here. To complete our understanding of the bond between Vecna and the Mind Flayer, let’s turn our attention to one more villain:
Tumblr media
Billy is a survivor of abuse whose anger led to a sense of entitlement to abuse others in turn. It’s classic cycle of abuse stuff, and very similar to Henry’s backstory.
But where Billy differs from Henry is that he seems to be aware that what he’s doing is wrong. Not that this helps much -- the best idea he can come up with to mitigate harm is to beg his victim for compassion, which is a great way to assuage his guilt, not such a great way to mend the damage he’s done to her.
Tumblr media
I think it’s significant that Vecna and the Mind Flayer are used as metaphors for Billy’s urge to perpetuate the cycle of abuse, as their relationship is a very cyclical one:
Henry was abused, which led to the creation of the Mind Flayer, which led to Henry abusing Billy, which led to the creation of the fleshy Spider Monster--
Tumblr media
Billy attempted to stop the cycle here, but as with the sauna plea, his efforts were dead in the water and the cycle continued:
--Max developed survivor’s guilt, which led to Henry abusing her, which led to her death, which led to Henry having free reign to continue abusing to his rotten little heart’s content.
This reflects not only the abuse that occurs between individuals, but also abuse on a society-wide level: bigoted societal attitudes beget internalized attitudes, which in turn lead to behaviours that perpetuate the original societal attitudes.
Tumblr media
To me, a more interesting question than “which one is the real Big Bad?” is “how will our heroes stop the cycle?”
In real life, bigotry is defeated when outcasts and their allies band together and forge their own movements to spread messages of truth and positivity.
So I think it’s interesting that our core trio of protagonists consists of a charismatic leader who never wields his skill selfishly...
Tumblr media
...and a powerful pair of survivors who are too full of love and kindness to perpetuate their own cycles of abuse.

What are your thoughts on Steve’s chronic migraines getting worse so Eddie and Robin convince him to go to the doctor. The medication he is given helps but perhaps it starts to cause weight gain #chubby Steve Harrington
To be honest, I don’t know if I know enough about migraines to go too deeply into that part of it. My brother gets them, and I briefly thought I was getting them in college but that turned out to be just my sinuses trying very hard to murder me on a seasonal basis. The campus health center had me keep a food journal for a while in case it was a dietary trigger, though, which I kind of want to foist on Steve. Like, what if…
(This got away from me, what else is new, please either enjoy or suffer for the next 3k words. The meds definitely kicked off Steve’s weight gain, partly because meds do that and partly because he doesn’t end up puking his guts out as often anymore, but the combo of the food journal and the stress reduction of he finds in eating definitely awakens something that keeps it going.)
Hawkins Memorial Hospital and all its patient records were obliterated over the course of defeating Vecna. So now that the Upside Down is gone and the older teens have moved out of Hawkins, Robin and Steve got into college somewhere (Steve by the skin of his teeth, if only because I’m not sure if community colleges have health services for their students), and Eddie lives with them too while he works at an auto shop and tries to scrape a new band together.
Between the migraines and the campus nurse “what if”ing him about shit, because he no longer has the medical history on his whopping total of four concussions in three years, Steve has very little patience for being instructed to write down everything he eats for a week or two on the off chance his headaches are triggered by something he’s eating. He’s sure that’s not it. Robin and Eddie bully him into actually doing it, basically resulting in a communal journal where they all take notes on Steve’s meals.
So Eddie is uniquely tuned in to Steve’s eating habits, even for a trauma-bonded roommate with a big gay crush. He doesn’t think much of it, but does have a lot of fun being all “You deserve a treat for finishing that homework on time, I’ll pencil you in for a donut and we’ll hit the corner market!” and whatever. Just a little bit of friendly teasing on the days Steve decides to be lazy and eats mostly junk.
By the time Steve finally gets medication and a routine that actually helps keep the migraines at bay more often than not, the food journal is long done but Eddie still notices that stuff and is vaguely aware that Steve has started snacking more often, taking a little extra at dinner, doubling up on his usual bowl of cereal for breakfast. He also notices the way all of his jeans start to hug his ass more, the faintest suggestion of a future muffin top starting to bunch over waistbands when his shirts are tucked in, how he starts moving a little slower when taking the stairs up to their apartment two at a time (or, eventually, one at a time like what Eddie considers a normal person).
He casually brings it up at one point, something offhand like, “Extra hungry today, Harrington? Or are you carb loading before a hot date, or whatever it is you jocks get up to before strenuous activity?” But Steve just laughs and helps himself to more pasta or whatever’s for dinner, his third serving, and says he’s pretty sure it’s the new meds are doing something to his appetite. So no, not just today.
And Eddie doesn’t push, because Steve seems fine with it. The extra weight looks good on him, in Eddie’s opinion—anything would look good on Steve, but especially the contentment that comes with indulging the whims of his appetite. He’s quickly developing a snacking-while-studying habit, and Eddie learns that when Steve gets frustrated and tries to blow off doing the work, he can be both placated and bribed to continue with donuts. His grades are steadily improving, and that’s not the only thing on the upswing; he eventually consults both Robin and Eddie on how to size up his closet on a budget, too.
The only thing Steve complains about is the dating dry spell he’s on, grumbling about shallow girls who don’t want to take the time to get to know him. Robin comments that he’s like a broken record, she heard all of this before when his parents cut him off and he didn’t have the money to plan lavish dates anymore… and Eddie feels like he’s been knocked over the head by the comparison. He can’t imagine not wanting to date Steve just because his money doesn’t grow on trees or he’s put on weight, what is wrong with those women?!
Because, call a spade a spade: if Steve were into guys, Eddie would ask him out in a heartbeat. Even if it could potentially torpedo their friendship. He puts so much energy every day into not flirting with Steve, and to be honest these days he’s mostly redirecting it towards bringing him treats. Steve has this unfortunate habit of licking his fingers (even when it doesn’t seem like he should need to!); Eddie is developing a staring problem. A worse staring problem. Whatever.
Sometimes the three of them smoke up on Friday and Saturday nights when they have nothing better to do. (Read: don’t have dates. Eddie is used to being a dateless loser, but he feels bad for Steve and Robin. Indignant on their behalf. Secretly pleased whenever Robin has plans and relieved when Steve doesn’t, and guilty about both.) They pick out a tub each of ice cream in advance and order too much pizza and watch movies they barely pay attention to while bickering and giggling like idiots, and if it’s a double lame day weekend none of them bat an eye when Steve starts getting two tubs for himself so he doesn’t run out part way through. Goads one or both of them to bet on whether he can finish it in one sitting before it completely melts, leaving Eddie to have to hide a boner whenever the challenge devolves into messily slurping of whatever’s left at the bottom.
It’s at the end of one of those nights where it’s just Steve and Eddie; they turn in for the night (or the pre-dawn hours at least), Steve taking a little longer to shuffle into his room because he offered to put the leftovers in the fridge. Eddie gets back up because his mouth is dry as hell, and opens the fridge for light while he hunts for a clean cup… only to realize the leftovers aren’t there. He checks the freezer, and his own mostly empty ice cream carton is missing too. Turns out, they’re in the trash, scraped clean. Steve must have finished everything. When he goes back to his room he can hear Steve moving restlessly through the thin shared wall, soft grunts and moans and muffled burps and—
Usually, Eddie tries to be a good roommate and put his headphones on when he realizes that Steve is having some alone time. But he’s sleepy and still stoned and doesn’t feel like getting up again, so he stays prone and closes his eyes, telling himself that he’s not listening, really he’s not, he’s just trying to sleep. The hand he’s palming himself through his pajama pants begs to differ, though. And if he thinks he hears choked moans of “more, give me more” and “please, I need it” and “yeah, give it to me, Eddie,” no he absolutely does not. He obviously just nodded off into a wet dream, because while Steve often joins him at Robin at the local gay establishments for nights on the town, he only ever hooks up with girls.
The next weekend it happens again. Eddie has no idea if Steve is eating up all the extras in the kitchen or taking some of it back to his room, but it’s obvious where it’s all going. And either way the end result always seems to be the same: Steve eats and jerks off afterwards, and Eddie listens in and does the same. He feels like a creep for doing it, but the shame doesn’t hit until after he’s done biting his pillow to keep quiet and pumping into his fist until his toes feel permanently curled.
But, he rationalizes, it’s not that weird that they each have their own guilty pleasures. Everybody’s got to have something at the end of the day, right? And at least pinning after Steve this way keeps him from doing anything stupid, like spending his weekend cruising for one night stands and STDs. It happens enough already on the rare occasions that Steve does have a date, he doesn’t need to up his risk factor for catching anything.
This goes on until Robin and Steve graduate. Like, actual years. Eddie would feel like a monk by now if he wasn’t secretly indulging himself while imagining Steve on a regular basis, which is… it’s fine. At least it goes a long way towards keeping lingering nightmares about demon bats and evil veiny wizards at bay.
They have two different ‘Congrats Grads’ parties in their cramped apartments, one with all their friends from school and around the city, and one for everyone who knows about the Upside Down. Eddie buys two huge sheet cakes for both, but is puzzled when there’s way too much left—and Steve doesn’t seem to have touched them.
After the last round of guests has gone, including Robin who had announced out of nowhere that she was going to crash with Nancy in the latter’s hotel room and wake up early to do touristy things in the city while Nancy is visiting from Boston, Steve calmly gets both platters of remaining cake out. Without explaining himself, he also produces a gallon tub of ice cream and lays everything out on the coffee table in front of their second hand couch. His thighs and arms have grown thicker over the years, cheeks fuller, jawline softer. His belly rounds out before him, spilling over in front and a litte to either side even while empty, and he has this way of kind of holding it as he shifts further back on the couch to get comfortable, like he doesn’t want to jostle it or maybe, maybe just needs it a little out of the way to better move around.
Eddie pretends not to watch but the second he glances up realizes he’s been caught out, because Steve meets his gaze, staring right back.
“I wanted to show you something,” Steve says, and holds out the old food journal, abandoned many semesters and a whole diploma ago once it had been determined that Steve’s triggers were mostly bright lights and stress-related.
Except… it wasn’t abandoned, apparently. Notes fill it up from cover to cover, post-its sticking out more and more towards the back pages where Steve’s increasingly squashed handwriting had run out of space for that day. Everything Steve had eaten, carefully recorded quantities. Some entries, Eddie notices, have a small ‘e’ written and circled next to them, and he’s about to ask when Steve sees where he’s looking and says, “That’s all the food you gave me.”
And Eddie hadn’t even realized how much he’d been doing that, because Steve had always just taken everything he’d offered without comment. It had become normal, like a reflex. And, okay, maybe he’d noticed that on days Steve ate more he tended to be a little more audible through the wall at night as he worked his way to completion, and maybe it had become Eddie’s favorite soundtrack to fall asleep too.
He doesn’t realize that his jaw has dropped until Steve sits forward with a grunt—a series of them really, because Eddie is on the bean bag chair on the other side of the coffee table and that was a bit of a reach even before Steve had started adding pound after pound to his own frame—and nudges it closed with a finger under his chin. Your move, Steve’s eyes seem to say as he sits back, resettles his ass and then his belly all over again.
“I’m bisexual,” Steve announces bluntly. “Figured I should just come out and say it, since I’m either really bad at hinting or you haven’t picked up on the fact I’ve been trying to for… a while now. Robin says it’s pretty painful to watch me fail so hard and you still act so oblivious. I think she’s sad for both of us. And,” he adds, laying a hand over the crest of his belly, “while I’m doing the open and honest communication thing—I like this. I like to eat, and I like how I look. And either you like it too or you’ve got this… codependent blind spot, Robin called it? Which I guess means you just give me things that you know I want without really thinking about it. But she also said that you might just think of me as off limits because we’re friends and we live together and I’ve never actually, like, told you that I like both, which… I don’t really have a good excuse for, other than being kind of a moron. So.” He gives his belly a double pat, which Eddie’s dazed brain can only liken to a judge banging a gavel, but whatever it’s supposed to mean is kind of drowned out by the way it wobbles and fills said brain with silent fizz. “This is me telling you. And asking, uh, if you’ve noticed, or have… any interest in me at all. If giving me food means anything, because—at the risk of making things incredibly weird between us—it makes me feel really good when you do.”
For a moment Eddie just gapes at him. He doesn’t even know when his mouth fell back open. His brain is still the equivalent of a shaken can of Coke that Steve’s just popped the top of, metaphorically foaming out his goddamn ears. And then when he tries to say something, it’s too many different sentences at once and just comes out as as a garbled, “Stehuhyuhwha…?”
Steve just huffs and says, “Stop trying to cheat at Scrabble, Eds.” Which is what Robin always says when Steve’s dyslexia or Eddie’s abuse of creativity in regards to spelling rears up during important moments. Like when she’s tricked them into playing Scrabble.
Eddie tries again. “Steve, what are you talking about? What do you mean you’ve been trying, to… to what? Both? Picked up on—What?!”
Immediately, Steve’s face flushes. “Shit, you really didn’t know? Any of it?”
“I knew about the eating,” Eddie says, and he feels like his voice has gone unusually high but can’t focus enough on that to decide if it’s actually true. “I mean, I knew you seemed okay with it, but you said your meds make you hungrier or something—How like is much, I mean, is like, I mean—” He slaps a hand over his own mouth to stop that runaway train of a sentence before it goes over a cliff any more than it already has, then tries to rephrase. “What do you mean by you like it?”
“Eddie. Have you noticed how often I put my fingers in my mouth when you’re around? Haven’t you heard me through the wall?”
Eddie’s face feels hotter than the sun. “Y-yeah…” He wonders if it’s really possible to die of spontaneous combustion, but confronted directly like this he can’t find it in himself to lie. “You… you touch yourself after you…”
“Eat a lot,” Steve finishes. “It feels good, getting so full like that. I sleep better after, especially if I, uh, come.” He flushes a little at the admission, too, so at least Eddie isn’t completely alone. “I say things sometimes, hoping you’ll hear.”
“I thought I was dreaming most of that,” Eddie admits, which makes Steve perk up a little.
“You dream about me?”
“I…” Letting out an embarrassed whine, Eddie brings a hand to his hair, dragging a clump of it down over his mouth in a ludicrous attempt to hide. “Shit, yeah. I do. I…” And, okay, if he’s going to admit this he’s not going to do it by halves, because if Steve can just say things that would get him labeled a freak in most circles, then so can Eddie, the official Freak of Hawkins, Indiana. “I listen and I picture what you might be doing in there, and I get off to it, man. I thought I was being a huge creep for doing that, but I couldn’t help it because it’s you, alright? At the risk of making things incredibly weird between us, Steve, I’ve been fucking gone on you for a mortifyingly long time and it’s only ever gotten worse, and I’m pretty sure that you saying any of what you’re saying now means I’ve finally lost my mind and I want you to be my padded cell. I don’t even know what that means, Steve, but I want it.”
Steve tilts his head slightly. “It’s gotten worse? In a bad way?”
“Oh my god,” Eddie groans, and drops his flaming face into his sweaty palms. “It’s gotten bigger. It’s gotten… more. What do you want from m—”
“Eddie,” Steve interrupts, cutting through his Freudian slips like a knife through butter. “Come here.”
When Eddie lifts his head, he sees that Steve is patting the section of couch next to him. Feeling dazed and like this might as well happen, Eddie climbs his feet and ambles around the laden coffee table on rickety Bambi legs. Jesus H Christ, is this what having a stroke feels like?
He sits. Steve lays a hand on his thigh and Eddie feels like it’s leaving a mark straight through the ripped denim.
“I want to show you something,” Steve says. “Try something, I guess. You can say no, but… I’m hoping you won’t. Because I’ve been thinking about this ever since you started writing things in that stupid journal for me. I want you to feed me cake and ice cream, and when the cake runs out I want you to pour the melted ice cream down my throat. Okay?”
“Should,” Eddie starts, and then has to clear his throat a few times because holy shit, his voice is rough and all the blood in his body just rushed south. “Should we do this on a communal couch, or… your room…?”
Steve’s eyes go hooded and dark, bedroom eyes if Eddie’s ever seen them. The goddamn Harrington Charm. “You wanna see where all the magic happens, baby? Finally get the visual to go with the audio?”
And well, that kind of answers the question of whether Steve was wolfing down leftovers in the kitchen or in bed, doesn’t it?
The next day, Robin gravely thanks them for not doing “hungry penis stuff” on shared furniture, a phrase which they vehemently beg her never to use again with varying degrees of dismayed wailing and hysterical laughter. And then she whacks them both upside their heads with a heartfelt, “Took you long enough, you dingi!”

warnings: cursing, violence, use of guns, blood, angst, near-death & death experience, and a happy ending :D -- all lyric credits to taylor swift "i know places" which inspired this fic!!!
_
“You stand with your hand on my waistline It’s a scene, and we’re out here in plain sight I can hear them whisper as we pass by It’s a bad sign, bad sign”
Eddie’s grasp around your waist stiffened as you two could feel the glares boring into the depths of your skin. Here you were standing alongside your recently cleared boyfriend Eddie Munson, trudging through the rubble of Hawkins—or you should say what was left. The earthquake that shook this small town turned out to be something more, and that was the gates…more of them opening throughout the town with no explanation, at least not yet.
You and Eddie plus Steve, Robin, and Nance had found yourselves in the Upside Down attempting to defeat Vecna, but it was no use. Neither of you had the capabilities to defeat him in order to stop the madness that was haunting Hawkins.
And you all knew that while Hopper did his part, literally clearing Eddie’s name and explaining the zero involvement he had in Chrissy’s death, the town still looked at him as a murderer. With Hopper preoccupied with his daughter, El needing to work on closing these gates and ultimately defeating Vecna, his hands were full and he couldn’t be the safeguard that you and especially Eddie needed.
“It’s ok, Eds,” you murmured quietly, ignoring the stares and sneers, focusing on your path towards War Zone.
His hands never drifted too far away, pulling open the door and holding it for you and the rest of the gang. At this point, not only were you and Eddie in danger, but as well as your friends who decided to stand with you two knowing it was the only noble thing to do after what you all experience together for the past three days.
“We all remember what we’re here for?” you huddled everyone one up quickly, going over their respective aisles to gather the needed materials.
You pushed the cart, watching as Eddie grabbed tin cans of gasoline, practically clearing the shelves, along with matches, rope, and duct tape. Cleary neither of you have ever been through something as extreme as this, but running from death was something the two of you weren’t expecting and despite its surprise, there was one thing you were sure of and that was you were all going to survive.
Too many lives had already been taken, and you all nearly escaped death at the hands of Vecna, so there was no way in hell you were going to let the unaware bodies of Hawkin’s be the ones who ended any of you. If they wanted to start a war, you were sure you guys were going to be the ones who ended it.
A few minutes you all met up at the registers, combining whatever cash you all accumulated in order to pay for survival. Thankfully, it was just enough, and you were out of there in seconds, wanting to avoid any more attention you were receiving.
“You’ll pay for your sins!”
“Killer! Eddie is a killer!”
The heckling only got worse when you stepped out of the store, by now the whole town had been notified of Eddie’s whereabouts and it seemed like he could never get away, unless it was in the Upside Down, but he knew that he could survive this as long as he had you by his side to live for.
“Something happens when everybody finds out See the vultures circling, dark clouds Love’s a fragile little flame, it could burn out It could burn out”
“Just ignore them, you guys. They don’t know the truth,” Steve forewarned you two, starting to shove the resources into the RV, passing every gun and box of bullets carefully to Nancy and Robin, who stored them away.
You could feel Eddie shaking, panic coursing through his veins knowing that any of these individuals could’ve just surged right at him and murdered him, thankfully you pulled him out of that vision, “Eddie, honey, why don’t you get in the back with Robs and Nance?” you suggested, drawing his cheek to look elsewhere from the hecklers.
Finally, his brown orbs met yours with hesitance filling them, “You don’t want me upfront with you, sweets?” He proposed, and you shook your head, bowing towards Steve.
“Steve is gonna ride passenger. It’s best if you hide out back so that no one sees you…please?”
Eddie honestly felt like a cowered, but could he really blame himself? The whole town that he once called home was now against him, all because Chrissy’s body had been found in his trailer…ok nevermind, that sounded bad. But still, this town and its people would never be able to grasp the magnitude of horror that literally lived underneath them and now infiltrating Hawkins.
The only thing he could do was run…hide behind his girlfriend who immediately sprang into action, ensuring that he was protected. That no one in this town was going to get away with calling Eddie a killer without tying any of it to facts and evidence. It was all propaganda with them.
“Ok, yeah,” Eddie didn’t put up a fight with you, know that it was the right and safest thing to do.
You smiled faintly, tiptoeing to peck his lips softly before he got into the back of the RV, shutting the door closed behind him.
“How can you kiss that monster knowing he killed an innocent girl!” Your head whirled, following the voice that belonged to a middle-aged women, she had a sign that read, “Killers shall not run free.”
You squinted, walking closer to her as she stepped back frightened, only making it so far before feeling a hand wrapping around your wrist. It was Steve, “Come on, don’t let them get to you.”
Shaking your head, you pulled your hand away from Steve’s but still keeping the same distance from the foolish women who messed with the wrong teenage girl today, “Let me tell you something lady,” your finger jabbed out roughly to point at her, “my boyfriend is no killer, but I can promise you that if anyone tries to put their hands on him or anyone who I love for that matter—I will make sure that the only killer in this town is me.”
She gasped, while you walked away unphased, the asphalt and rocks beneath you crunching as Steve trailed behind, getting into the passenger seat while you hopped in the drivers.
“What was that about?” Robin poked her head through, her hands clutching the back on your head rest.
You wriggled and let out a terribly weak chuckle, “Nothing but some friendly back and forth, I doubt she’ll be giving us a problem.”
Feet pressing down on the gas, you left the jammed parking lot, not before catching Eddie’s eyes in the rearview mirror as he sat on the floor, huddled up with his knees to his chest, like a little boy hiding away from the cruel and bad world around him. This wasn’t your Eddie anymore, and you weren’t quite sure if you’d ever get the old one back again, but you sure as hell would not be leaving his side.
This would be over soon—whether it would take days, weeks, months…hell even years you two were never going to be leaving each other sides, especially after going through all of this in the span of three dreadful and traumatizing days.
“Eddie, you ok back there, baby?” You called out softly, and he nodded, trying his best to give you a small and sincere smile.
“I’m fine sweetheart, how long do you think before we get there?” He asked, looking down at his watch while the other gripped tightly onto the walkie talkie that Dustin had lent to him.
“Maybe an hour without interruptions. Hop said we have to take a hidden road, so Steve will be on the lookout for that.” You informed him, and he nodded.
The first twenty minutes of the car ride was spent listening to the soft static of the radio, occasionally trying to converse in order to ease the atmosphere, but to be honest with you, nothing could do that except for sleep. For the last two days, sleep was the only moment where any of you felt safe. Nightmares still came, but even then at least you had gotten to escape the madness, even if it was only for fifteen minutes.
“Why don’t you guys take a nap, we’ve got like forty minutes to go,” you suggested, fingers tapping quietly on the wheel as you proceeded on the empty roads.
You could hear shifting in the back and this time it was your boyfriend who had moved up a bit closer, just enough to get to your ear, “You sure you don’t want me up here? Steve can drive and I can disguise in the passenger—”
“Eds,” you sighed, turning back to glance at him, not missing the deep-sunken eyes and dark circles—his entire face was an unmistakable display of fatigue, “you haven’t slept for the last twelve hours, you need some sleep.”
“You say that as if you and I don’t share the same sleep schedule.” His quick-witted reply making you smile a bit, even while running away from death he still made the effort to make you laugh.
“When we get to the cabin I’ll sleep, I swear to god,” your right hand withdrew from the steering wheel, reaching back to hold his hand in yours, which he did instantly.
He squeezed tenderly, brushing his thumbs across your scraped up knuckles before bringing it up to his lips, kissing each of your fingers. The action always made you blush, and it wasn’t any different even now. The love that you two held for each other burned brightly, even through this dark and telling time.
“Harrington, you better keep those eyes peeled and make sure to keep my girl up alright? The second your eyes droop, you’re waking one of us up.” Eddie looked towards Steve, motioning his fingers to himself, and the two other girls in the back, who were already fast asleep.
Steve tore his eyes away from the map, rolling them upward towards Eddie, “Yeah, whatever you say, dad…now go to sleep,” he waved him off, but not before gagging as Eddie snaked his body up, planting a sloppy kiss to your lips, making you giggle, pushing him back.
“‘Cause they got the cages, they got the boxes And guns They are the hunters, we are the foxes And we run”
The three had fallen asleep quickly to no one’s surprise, faint snoring could be heard coming from the back while Steve did his best to stay awake, fighting the urge to snooze in order to keep you up. He knew that if anyone was more exhausted by this tragic turn of events other than Eddie; it was you.
You were practically the glue holding this entire plan together. Knowing that the picture was bigger than clearing Eddie’s name, but making sure everyone was safe. Coming up with a game plan to create alibies and taking the initiative to do this. Sure, Eddie was your boyfriend, and you definitely wanted him safe and away from trouble, but you also loved your friends, and you weren’t going to let anything happen to them.
“Steve, you can go to sleep,” you whispered it faintly, catching a glimpse of his eyes dosing off, struggling to keep them open for long as the sky grew darker.
He yawned, snapping his eyes open and shaking his head, “I’m fine, just was resting them, sorry—”
Shushing him quietly, you assured him, “We’ve got like twenty minutes, Steve. Just take a quick nap and by the time you wake up, we’ll be there.”
“But the directions—” He attempted to argue pointing at the map that was useless by now, considering the fact that the last direction Steve had given you was at the beginning of the drive, and for the most part it was going to continue straight until a few miles away from your destination.
“I know my way from here,” you assured him, holding out your hand, and he passed the map to you, your eyes skimming over it swiftly, “this isn’t the first time I’ve been to the cabin, I know my way around here and I know the hidden road I’m supposed to take.”
He rose his brows questionably at you, but he knew you wouldn’t lie about that, “I’ll go wake up Robin to keep you—”
You held out your hand stopping him from unbuckling his seatbelt and disturbing the others’ much needed rest, “I’ll be ok, if anything happens I’ll scream and you’ll all wake up. I swear.”
It didn’t take much of a fight as Steve laid back comfortably in his chair, easing into sleep smoothly while your eyes focused on the road ahead of you. And it was a relaxed drive, for the most part there were little to no cars on the route, many of the residents opting to stay home in case disaster struck again, while many others had fled to the next town over to seek shelter.
But the drive was safe, until it wasn’t anymore.
Bright headlights glowed behind you on the roadways, your rear mirror practically blinding you as you attempted to see who it may have been.
“Steve,” you whispered, eyes squinting as you shielded them to try to make out who it was behind you.
He didn’t budge, still snoring in the passenger seat with his chin tucked into his chest.
“Steve.” this time with a little more volume and urgency.
“W-what? ‘m dreaming?” His voice groaned before drifting like clouds, not fully awake at all.
The car abruptly swerved from behind you, turning down their headlights marginally, getting into the left lane beside you. The car had cut over just enough so that you could look in the side mirror and your heart dropped when you saw who was in the driver’s seat.
Jason Carver.
“Baby, I know places we won’t be found and They’ll be chasing their tails trying to track us down”
“Steve! Steve, wake up! Steve, please!” your palm flung out, jolting his shoulder rapidly, eyes never leaving the side mirror as you could see the crazy lingering in the eyes of the once whole Jason Carver.
Ever since Chrissy’s death, he had been spiraling, blaming Eddie for everything and doing anything in his power to make sure Eddie would pay by taking his life. But when Hopper cleared his name, it only made Jason angrier, he sent messages to the community that Eddie had to pay and that he and anyone who stood for him would need to die.
Steve’s body jolted from your shouts, fingers shooting up to rub at his eyes violently, trying to get his brain to wake up, “What! What’s going on?”
“Jason, found us! He’s in my left lane!”
Your fingers tightened around the steering wheel, as your eyes darted quickly back and forth between all the mirrors in the car, making yourself hyper aware of your surroundings and if anyone else was present. Steve perched forward, leaning across you to look out of the driver’s window and low and behold, there was Carver in his Jeep Cherokee.
His car trailing quickly beside you, leaving you no choice to disregard the speed limit signs as you pressed down harder on the gas, the tiny red arrow on the speedometer, raising higher by the second.
“Shit! J-just keep pressing the gas,” He was quickly unbuckling his belt, scrambling towards the back of the RV in search of bullets, guns, and whatever else you two could use to defend yourself from in here.
“Steve, he’s getting closer!” You lost it, voice weakening with fear as his car was only inches away and Steve’s voice roared from behind you, “Floor it!”
You winced, shutting your eyes closed rigidly as smashed your entire weight onto the gas pedal, the engine of the RV roaring forcing you to open your eyes—thankfully the roads were still clear, which gave you little comfort.
The commotion had woken up Eddie, Robin, and Nancy, who were now grazing at their eyes, yawning thinking that they had made it safely to the cabin, but that was quickly thrown out when they realized the hysteria that you and Steve were in. The speed of the RV quickly reaching its limit, not allowing you to stray far away from Jason’s.
“What’s happening! Why do you have a gun! Guys, someone say something!” Robin’s worrying eyes followed Steve as he hopped back into the passenger seat, two guns in hand, along with a tin of lighter fluid and matches.
Nancy and Eddie waited for no explanation, peeking out the curtains that concealed the back windows. She instantly tugged Eddie down when she realized, “get down, Eddie! It’s Jason.”
Terror stormed in, pressing himself firmly against the floorboards, as he pushed the button of the radio, “Henderson! Hello! This is a code red!”
When Jason eventually caught up, you rolled down your window thinking reasoning would get somewhere with him. “Jason! Leave us alone, please!” your voice screamed as loud as you could through the strong wind, but even when he heard you, it was no use.
“You’re aiding and abetting a murderer—he deserves to die!”
You felt a nudge on your leg and it was the pistol, Steve, prompting you to pick it up, but let it not be seen by Jason, who you all knew had his own fair share and collections of guns. And no doubt, if he had gotten a tip from your recent whereabout at War Zone, he had his own weaponry ready and charged for a kill.
But not today.
“Steve, I-I need you to take over.” Your brain short-circuited attempting to find a strategy, a way for Steve to somehow get into the driver’s seat so that you could deal with Jason and get him off your tails for good.
“H-how?”
Then it clicked.
“Everyone, hold on to something quick!”
Leaving no room for question, you braced yourself, stomping down harshly on the brake. Yelps and screams filling the air, as your body was propelled forward, before being thrusted back into your seat roughly. The RV coming to a screeching stop as you watched Jason zoom past you at a high speed allowing you to speedily get up and clutch Steve, shoving him into the driver’s seat.
“Now what?!” Steve was in a frenzy, having just woken up five minutes ago to this chaos.
You grabbed his pistol resting on the dash, having two in your hands now, “Drive and whatever you do, you do not stop until I tell you. Got that?” He had followed your orders promptly, pressing his foot on the gas as you started your way back towards Jason.
“Anyone hello! This is a code red! I repeat…code red! Jason has found us!” Robins’ voice had hit your ears, turning you saw she had ripped the walkie out of Eddie’s hand and was now in charge of radioing, while your boyfriend and Nancy scurried to load up their own guns for the fight.
“Hey! We’re approaching Jason a few feet away, looks like he’s slowing down to match our speed!”
All eyes snapped to the windshield as Steve had shouted out his warning. Jason’s car get closer and closer by the second and you wasted no time, sticking half of your body out the passenger window to size up the close proximity of the car with your pistol, aiming for the back left tire—
Steve whipped his head, between you and Jason’s car, immediately calling out to Eddie, “Are you insane! Munson, tell your girl to get her ass back in this car!”
“Shit! Baby, get back—” As Eddie’s voice yelled, you fired the first shot of the seventeen rounds, missing the tire but dinging part of his car, causing him to swerve.
“Goddamit, hello!? This is a fuckin’ code red! Henderson! Anyone, hello?!”
“We don’t have time! Hurry and shoot!” Nancy pushed Eddie’s shotgun into his arms, using hers to shatter the back windows in order to get a better shot from their positions in the rear.
The wind rustling in your face combined with the low visibility thanks to the darkening sky, your shots ended up only skimming the tires and hitting the exterior of Jason’s jeep. By now you had emptied the first pistol, all your shots missing your target as did Nancy and Eddie’s—bullets only shattering the jeeps’ back window and cutting through the trunk. You only had a few shots left in the second gun and you had to make them count.
“Steve! Keep straight! I can’t get a good shot!”
He was trying his best, but maneuvering a motor vehicle that wasn’t necessarily equipped to withstand a shootout wasn’t the easiest. “I’m moving to the left of him! Get ready to fire!” he called out, swerving the car abruptly as you shrieked, almost slipping, but your fingers grasped onto the hood of the RV, bearing yourself there with your left arm.
Your right eye squinted, fingers shuddering against the trigger until Jason’s car subsequently slowed down, granting you a convenient shot, puncturing a bullet through his rear left tire. The rubber rapidly flattening against the road ways as you could hear more gunshots coming from Eddie and Nancy who were dinging up the rest of Jason’s car.
“Got a tire!” You hollered out for them to hear as you could make out a “good job, baby!” from Eddie, and more cries of fear coming from Robin as she held the walkie up.
Unfortunately for you, your body sticking midway out of the RV was also a perfect shot for Jason to take, especially since his car was now matching the same acceleration, allowing you and him to come face to face.
His hoarse voiced screamed, thought the high winds,“You bitch!”
And it was followed with a crack of a gun.
His gun.
From this angle you only had seconds to see the glock pressed up against his driver’s door, allowing it to be obscured from Eddie and Nancy in the back who were working to get his other rear tired deflated. The bullet piercing through the heavy metal, and into your midsection, provoking an earth shattering cry of agony to escape your lips. And your finger moved, accidentally, firing your gun straight through his window, destroying the glass in a a million pieces, then straight through his skull.
You gasped the moment it happened, the shock and blood spewing through you as you collapsed back into the passenger seat. Gun falling onto the carpeted floor while your hand pressed onto your rib tightly, feeling the warm liquid against your skin.
Steve, who was watching the scene unfold, but not realizing you had been shot, was now reeling it all in, your white top slowly turning a dark red, “Holy shit! Is that blood?! Eddie!” He yelled loudly, thumping his palm on the horn to grab Eddie’s attention through their lingering shots that soon wavered when they watched Jason’s car veer away in another direction before colliding with tree.
“Eddie! She’s bleeding!” Steve hailed out again, his right hand reaching out to hold you steady, as you were about to topple over onto the floor.
Your boyfriend picked up on the worried inflection in Steve’s voice, followed by your figure that was being held up limply. He had thought that Jason had given up…that you guys had finally lost him in your tracks….
“Babe? Whose blood is…baby!” As he got closer to the front, his knees dropped down onto the floor, taking hold of you and allowing your entire body weight to rest on him.
Tears rolled numbly down your cheeks, feeling the excruciating pain in your side, your bloody hands getting weak, not able to apply considerable pressure on the wound as your breathing began to slow.
“Grab her legs, careful,” You could feel the bottom half of your bottom being pulled further towards the back of the van, Eddie’s hold on you never disappearing as Nance and Robin moved quickly to get you as comfortable as possible.
Your throat was dry, blazing at this point, but you still managed to dart out a question, “Am I d-dying, Eds?”
He was holding back tears, swinging his head fast as he gathered up the courage to push your trembling hands away from your wound. Your entire hand was coated in crimson red blood, dripping from your fingertips and trickling down your wrists. Eddie didn’t have the time to be disturbed, only firmly planting his palms against the puncture, applying strong pressure in hopes of it reducing down the bleeding as you choked in harsh intakes of breaths.
“Y’not, dying sweets, you….you’re going to be fine—we’re going to get you help ok?” His legs shook beneath you, his voice cracking between words as he could do nothing except watch you struggle to breathe, pinching your brows together in fear and agony, “I-I don’t know what…what do I do?”
He couldn’t trust his voice or his eyes to meet Nancy’s…he needed to help you, keep you alive, but he just didn’t know how.
“Eddie, it’s going to be ok, she’s going to be fine….just keep breathing alright,” Nancy had settled in the tight space beside the two of you, her fingers resting on top of Eddie’s pressing down heavily on the wound as she spotted the wound still fiercely gushing blood.
God, your ears were ringing now, and you could only make out the faint voice of Eddie’s attempting to comfort you as Robin continued to radio in with the group, but not getting any response. Your chances of living now are slim to nothing.
“S-stay with me baby, ok? It’s gonna be ok, I promise,” You could see his adam’s apple bobbing in his throat before he turned away, not being able to stomach you in so much pain for any longer, “Goddamit, floor it Harrington! My girlfriend is bleeding out!”
You could feel the speed of the RV quicken, along with a string of curses leaving Steve’s mouth, “Robin, I need you up here! Grab the map!” she dropped the walkie, eyes scanning the scene below her. Her friend was dying and they needed to get to that cabin quick.
Nancy’s eyes darted towards Eddie, “Push down harder,” she drew her hands away, bloodstained fingers reaching for the walkie talkie on the floor, proceeding to radio with one hand while the other ripped the bottom hem of her turtleneck.
“Please, anyone just answer, please….one of us is hurt and the wound won’t stop bleeding—she’s losing a lot of blood and I mean a lot of—”
“Hello! Sorry, had to find batteries…what’s going on?!” Dustin’s small voice finally speaking back through the radio, forced your eyes to stay open, Eddie leaning forward to shout profanities and demands in frustration with time ticking and his girlfriend dying.
“What the fuck has been taking so long?! My girl is shot, and we need help!”
The radio now blasted with screams and shouts on the other side, a few seconds of shuffling and distorted voices until a deeper one finally took over.
“Apply pressure to the wound.”
It was Hopper. He spoke sternly yet calm, knowing that him sounding just as worried as he was feeling on the inside was going to make matters worse. Every second needed to count and if you weren’t treated properly and arrived at the cabin in the next five minutes, you’d be dead.
“Y-yeah, Eddie is doing that right now,” Nancy gulped thickly, eyes darting to your pale face that was losing color and your eyes that seemed to slowly lose light.
She knew time was ticking, but didn’t want to alarm you or Eddie.
“Ok, you’re going to need to dress the wound in order to temporarily seal it…”
Nancy nodded to herself, placing down the walkie and grabbing onto the piece of fabric she had ripped moments ago, “move your hands quickly,” she instructed Munson, he trusted her, watching as she flipped up your shirt, revealing the wicked and gory wound, the silver bullet peeking out through your damaged tissue.
Eddie cringed, hugging you tightly as you wailed out, sharp cries erupting from your mouth, while Nancy did her best to gently tuck the fabric into the open space to get the bleeding to stop. Once she got it as best as she could, she pressed down firmly with one hand, the other going to pick up the walkie to continue talking to Hopper about what to do next.
“S-shit, fucking’ h…hurts so m-much,” your bottom lip catching between your teeth, nearly drawing blood as you whimpered against Eddie’s chest.
His bloody covered hands coming up to rest on your cheek, disregarding the mess that was spilling, “‘m’sorry, it’ll be over soon I promise, you’ve just got to s-stay with me baby,”
Voice was breaking, his tears dropping onto your face, feeling like warm kisses on your skin cold skin. It was the best feeling in this very moment, even if you were dying you’d be ok here spending your last moments in his arms.
"‘Cause I, I know places we can hide I know places I know places"
“Guys, the map doesn’t show the route! Which turn do we take?” Steve's voice combined with Robin’s rustling hands, trying to flip the map around to figure out where to go next.
It was as if the world was throwing you new challenges just to spite you, even when you were here dying, en route to a remote cabin that didn’t exist on the damn map. And you were the only one out of the group to know what turn to take, as you were the one to follow Hopper here when the beginning of this madness started.
“Hop! What are the directions?”
God, it was useless! Radio signal would cut out any minute now as Hopper made sure that no one would be able to trace them here—and so there was the static again, rumbling through the radio as Nancy screamed, hitting it repeatedly as if that was going to work.
“Turn right on Meredith lane,” the words croaked out of your mouth quietly, only being heard by Eddie through the chaos and he furrowed his brows at you, “W-what?”
You groaned, coughing out slightly as you wiggled in his hold, try to seat yourself up but it only seemed to cause the pain to worse as you hissed again, “Right. Meredith lane.”
“Take a right on Meredith lane!”
Eddie caught on quick, yelling out the directions followed by yelps and curses as the car violently turned, taking you all by surprise as the RV drove through bushes and swerved through the tall trees cascading this part of town.
“A mile straight, r-right when you see the signpost, then straight again,”
How you were able to speak all while bleeding out and fighting for every second of your life, you and Eddie had no clue. But he was grateful nonetheless, reciting the directions as Robin took mental note of it, relaying it back to Steve.
You were slipping in between deep sleep and staying awake—Eddie’s hands felt so good against your cheek….though his thumbs rough, and you spotting the red liquid under your lashes, blood painted on your face and his hands.
“I-I love you, Eddie,” It felt like the right moment to say that.
If you were about to die, you wanted him to know that you loved him and if you lived to see tomorrow, you still wanted him to know you loved him. There would be no universe where you didn’t. He was your everything, all that you’ve ever wanted, and all you needed to feel whole.
“H-hey, none of that ok sweets? It’s all going to be alright….I love you too, I love you so…so much baby,” You could feel his heart break in his tone, comprehending that you were moments away from oblivion as your eyes lazily fluttered down with no power to stay open.
His bit his lip harshly, thumbing you cheeks softly with his shaking hands, in this moment you could feel every detail of his touch. It brought you peace.
“….Steve, please hurry,” Your friend turned his head to see the eerie serenity in the backseats.
Nancy was silent, trying to keep her composure as her hands were still pressed on your side. A small pool of blood had now covered the floors of the RV, a trail of it that was dragged to your space from when it all started. And Eddie, god he was a mess. His eyes were begging, pleading for any sort of guarantee that you would live. That the cabin would only be seconds away so that Hopper or Joyce could assist, knowing they had way more patience for this.
Steve didn’t bother with words, barely nodding as he gripped harder on the steering wheel, feet pushing as hard it could, while Robin repeated the directions over and over and over again.
“E-Eds?”
There was so much you wanted to say, but the words just couldn’t escape your mouth. You pictured his face and all the memories you had created together over the course of your relationship. Flashbacks of infectious laughter, stolen kisses, and the warmest hugs replaying themselves in your head as you could feel Eddie’s lips on yours for only a brief moment.
“Don’t….please don’t forget m-me,”
It sounded so pathetic coming from you. How was he ever going to forget about you?
Repeatedly, those lips you came to love so dearly pressed onto your chapped and blue ones, “m’ not—gotta, you’ve…gotta s-stay with me, come on baby….baby open your eyes,”
You could feel his breath hovered over your face, as his lips trembled weakly against your chin, fingers trying to lift your lips open to give them a head start, but you were too weak to physically keep them open for longer than a second.
“C-can’t,”
The thump of your heart slowing down in your chest.
You were dying.
The purple discoloration settling into your skin, as your life drained out of you.
You were dying.
The memories fading into the dark abyss of nothingness.
You were dying.
The piercing silence that tuned out Eddie and your friends, and everything around you.
You were dying.
The limpness of your body finally giving in.
You were dead.
“Come on! Come on, hurry!” Nancy hurled open the back doors of the RV, not waiting for Steve to come to a complete stop as she watched Eddie muster up all his strength into carrying you bridal style out into the open.
His feet never stopping against the sticks and leaves of the forest until he couldn’t anymore. Dropping down onto his knees as you laid there lifeless in his arms. Cries and screams rang in the distance as Hopper and the rest of the crew stumbled out of the secluded cabin with supplies huddled in their hands. Towels, bandages, waters—everything.
“P-please, you have to save her! Please, just do something!” Eddie’s depareate pleases filled the crisp autum air, roaring in the ears of everyone else who had huddled around the two you.
The gasps of the kids, who came closer, literally seeing your dead body and blood was scarier than any other creature they had faced in the past. This was someone they loved. Someone who looked after them, believed them as soon as they came clean about the Upside Down, and vowed to protect them.
And here you were, dead.
Hop, sprang into action, quite literally prying Eddie off of you in order to get you flat on your back. Fingers squeezing your nostrils as he blew air into your mouth, needing to get your heart rate and breathing back up with only seconds to spare before it would be too late. His palms pressed harshly against you chest, ear hovering above your mouth for any signs of life.
Eddie couldn’t stand watching this, his hands absentmindedly, running through his hair, not giving a damn about the blood as reality sunk in, “T-the wound…we need to stop the bleeding!”
He flipped up your shirt, exposing the wound again as the clothing that Nancy had stuffed in seconds ago was soaked up in blood. A puddle of it seeping through the material, stopping nothing and only being of a useless attempt to save your life.
“I-I can, help…I’ll use my powers,” the small voice that belonged to Eleven appeared like a gift sent from above, as Eddie watched the young girl drop down to her knees beside you.
He was still apprehensive, he knew little to nothing about her, just that she had powers, “W-will it work?”
“Yes,”
Her voice was sure enough for Eddie to trust as he nodded, watching as she did what needed to be done while Hopper’s movements never skipped a beat. The slow drip of blood pouring out from her nostril as the bullet shook within your wound, slowly making it’s way out and dropping onto the dirt ground, as the surrounding tissue looked to repair itself instantly.
Your chest finally rose,
a soft thump of your heart,
and a small breath leaving your mouth.
One more chance….
“you know for me, it’s always you”
You and Eddie had a beautiful love story. “One for the books,” you’d like to say to him, often, as he would roll his eyes skeptically, but never failing to lay a sweet kiss on your lips.
You two were inseparable the moment you laid eyes on each other, it was as if you two were magnets, also another running joke that your friends like to make since Eddie hated being away from you for too long and the second you’d see each other he’d pull you into the biggest hug.
It should’ve been scary the way the both of you loved one another—with so much passion yet delicacy. You should have feared losing the love of your life at any given second, but for the most part, you knew that both of you had a connection that was irreplaceable. That everything felt right, and that you were enough for him that you didn’t have to question if you’d ever stop loving him or that he’d leave you.
Everything was right and simple.
“H-Hi sweets,”
Your eyes squinted, rubbing away the blurriness with the sides of your fingers, finally being able to see clearly. It was Eddie, but he looked so….real?
Head lifting from the soft pillow beneath you, you looked around. A bare room, small window, a heating unit in the corner, and the love of your life right in front of you.
“Are you….real?”
He laughed at that, nodding his head as he reached his hand out to you, his warm palm resting on your cheek, you leaned into it, feeling the heat radiating off his skin and the resistance.
“I-I’m alive? I thought that...thought I-I died?” You truly looked disoriented, but Eddie knew it was normal, something that Hopper warned him would happen.
Technically, you died, but only for a few seconds. Your heart rate and breathing had come back like a miracle and El was able to get the bullet out of you as well as stop the bleeding from the wound. The only thing left was for you to heal. It had been almost a full day since you were out of it. Sleep taking over your life all while Eddie never left your side, and if he did, he made sure someone was watching over you. Making sure that there was someone there the moment you woke up, so you didn’t feel lonely or scared.
“El, she used her cool powers y’know,” his fingers waved around as his eyes widened, “she managed to get the bullet out of you and stop the bleeding. And Hop…he gave you CPR, didn’t stop until you started breathing again.”
You nodded silently, trying to take in everything in this moment, for you thought you were on the brink of death….well technically you did face it, but….”ugh too complicated to think so critically right now” you scolded yourself quietly, turning your attention back to your boyfriend.
“I’m glad everything worked out.” You spoke honestly, brushing your lips against the crevice of his thumb, the action making Eddie shudder as he thought he would never get to feel you like this again.
He couldn’t stop himself, leaning forward to finally connect your lips in a soft kiss. No movement. Just the intimate feeling of having you against him. It was pure heaven.
If you weren’t already madly in love with Eddie, you sure as hell were now. You could feel the hot tears from his face rolling against your cheeks causing you to gradually pull away, “E-Eds? Why’re you crying, baby?”
He chuckled slightly, resting his forehead against yours, as all he wanted to do was stare into your eyes, full of life and love. It should’ve felt pitiful for him to be the one breaking down here while you were the one who literally risked their life for him.
You took a bullet, goddamit. And you died. Then you came back to life. Jesus, why was he crying again?
“You—you didn’t have to do this for me, y’know that right?” you stared at him confused, frowning when he pulled away slightly just so he could stare at your full face, taking in the beauty he missed so much, “When this town turned against me, you could’ve left me, b-but you didn’t…you stayed—”
“Because I love you, Eddie,” Your voice murmured it tenderly, your own hands finally making their way out from under the fleece blankets to cradle his face in your hold, “I would do anything for you because you mean the world to me, it doesn’t matter what universe we’re in…I will always….always stand by you.”
His heart wanted to jump out of his chest. He always knew that he loved you deeply, but this was a new found revelation. How you were so quick to drop everything for him…leaving a town you once called home just so you could spend days of hiding and war together. Even if it meant tomorrow wasn’t promised for either of you. Here you were.
“and I know for you, it’s always me”
“What’d I do to deserve you, huh?” A smile finally broke out on both of your faces, you’re the next one to initiate the kiss.
“I think the both of us just got very lucky.” You admitted, wrapping your arms around his neck to pull him into you. He yelped faintly, holding his arms onto the mattress on either side, not wanting to crush you.
You could feel his pulse as you rested your head in the crook of his neck. His tangled curly mane of hair curtained your face in soft tickles as you planted small kisses over the expanse of his skin, “Gotta be careful babe, you’re still healing.”
“Can I see?” You inquired and you could hear him mumbled out an, “are you sure?” and you nodded, unfortunately requiring to untangle yourself from him as he moved to kneel on the floor beside the bed.
Eddie delicately lifted away the layers of blankets from your body, hiking up the banged up t-shirt that he changed you into before revealing a layer of spotted bloody gauzes that wrapped around the right side of your abdomen, “Holy shit,” you whispered, only know realizing the surreality of it all.
“Yup, there she is…Hop actually sutured you back up while you were out of it. Kinda made me squeamish,” He half joked as you rolled your eyes, fingers reaching to pull your shirt back down, having more than enough of a look at your new battle scar.
“Honey, we fought demobats together, and I nearly puked when I saw the blood all over you.” He snickered at that, kissing your cheek as he spoke out, “thank you for taking care of me,” with every press of his lips on your skin.
“Lay with me?” You asked, slightly pushing him away, and he nodded, warily getting in beside you.
Instantly, your head went to rest on his chest, hands intertwining with one another, resting on the low of his stomach, relishing in this feeling of tranquility, not knowing how long it was going to last for.
“Soooo…I killed Jason, right?”
It was an odd question, probably one that should’ve been saved for later, but it was lingering in your mind. You didn’t mean to kill him, but he shot first with purpose, and you shot him accidentally.
You could feel his nod at the top of your head, accompanied by his calloused fingers, rubbing at the small scars and cuts on your knuckles that slowly scabbed, “He’s long gone, baby…won’t need to worry about him anymore.”
The thought of that made you smile. Jason had caused all this hostility towards Eddie, and while you didn’t mean to kill him, it was nice knowing that he wasn’t going to be giving you two problems anymore. And maybe now, Jason could be with Chrissy….wherever that could’ve been.
“Wanna know something funny?” You proposed eyes glancing up through your lashes to make out the curious curl in his lip, “What is it, sweets?”
“I told that lady at War Zone that if anyone tried to hurt you that I’d be the only murderer in Hawkins.”
A smirk fell onto his face now and his chest rumbled with laugher…but inside it swelled with affection. His girl kept her word, and it had to be the sexiest and most purest form of love that he had ever experienced. If he had the money, he’d buy you the prettiest ring and get down on his knee to ask you to marry him right now.
But he was going to save that for when all of this was over.
“I love you so much, never going to stop.” His thumb tilted your chin up to him, pressing your lips together again as they moved softly, not fight for dominance or getting too intense. Just the perfect amount of pressure and electricity flowing off of each other to express the love you had.
When you pulled away, it all started to feel like things were going to be ok. That even if death was upon you two tomorrow, again….right now you were ok. And you were always going to be this way as long as you had each other. Nothing would ever be able to extinguish the burning love you had for one another. Not in this world. And definitely not in the Upside Down.
“Eddie?”
“Hmm?”
“C-can you help me shower—and maybe….maybe make love to me?”
Your cheeks blushed in shyness as if you weren’t perishing in his arms the day before, but he’d always make you feel like this…you’d never get tired of it, though. He beamed, giving you your answer as he pressed a kiss to your temple.
“Now’s probably a good time to tell you that the cops are on the hunt for you now…lady at War Zone told cops about what you said—Hoppers’ trying to clear your name, but doesn’t look like he’ll be in the office any time soon.”
That should’ve made your heart drop with fear, but it didn’t. It only made you hug him tighter, ignoring the pain in your side as if it didn’t exist. Because right now, all the bad and scary didn’t.
Right now it was you and Eddie, here forever. And the both of you were going to make sure that nothing would come in between you two.
Not a super natural murdering creature and certainly not anyone in Hawkins.
“S’ok, I know a place…somewhere far from here, baby.”
