Campaign Introduction: V2
It’s been ten months since I started writing down the events of this Dungeons & Dragons campaign and its most relevant lore, so I thought I would take another pass at doing the introduction! A lot has changed, and we’re a few sessions into the second arc, so now seems like a great time for a refresher!
This is YiMS (the party hasn’t named their ship/crew yet, so that’s just my shortening of Yeehaw in Magic Space). It’s a genre blend of a space western, classic fantasy, and light horror. It takes place after a galaxy-wide war of succession that fused itself together with several regional conflicts to become what was known as “The Long War”. Due to the galaxy’s unity under the centuries old Galactic Sovereign, and the difficulty of long-distance space travel, war seemed like it was becoming a thing of the past. That all changed when FTL technology was introduced for larger vessels, and the Sovereign died. The war that followed raged for thirty six years. Our story begins three years after that.
The universe is trying to make itself whole again: with nobles making moves to reclaim their thrones and prove their loyalty to the throne, independent worlds trying to find their footing, and everyone looking to the untamed frontier worlds at the edge of the galaxy in the hopes of expansion and quick wealth. The Long War was a period of struggle and devastation for all, but many are advertising the time after as an era of good fortune, exploration, and opportunity for all.
Many are fleeing further away from the Galactic Core in an effort to chase this phantom of success, while others hope to strengthen their grasp on what they already have. If one can get ahead of the vicious nobles, the newly emerging companies, and the strange arcane things that are rumored to lurk where society’s eyes have not yet turned, maybe they’ve got a chance of being someone worth talking about.
This campaign is heavily inspired by things such as: The Locked Tomb, Star Wars, Cowboy Bebop, Firefly, and Darkest Dungeon. If that sounds interesting to you, there are already a good few sessions and lore drops on this account. So have fun exploring! Everything is tagged #yeehawinmagicspace , lore drops are tagged #loreinmagicspace , and each story arc will be tagged with its own unique tag. So far we have: #the barley arc and #the odd job arc , which is ongoing.
Also as a quick note, minors DNI! there is a lot of sex, violence, and other adult content in this campaign.
The Characters:
Dolly: Dolly is a Human Inquisitive Rogue. She is a former ace reporter who, after facing controversy for exchanging information and having affairs with famous outlaws, was run out of her old career. She now works for a tabloid that sells trashy stories and writes feel good stories the supposed prosperity of the “frontier age”.  She does her best to maintain her passion for reporting and her strong sense of right and wrong, but as the world wears down on her, it remains difficult to make either a top priority. She now roams the stars trying to find herself and satisfy her endless curiosity, while also making every deadline set by her tabloid. One fun fact about Dolly is that with every job she takes on for the tabloid “Choice Information”, she is given a new scandalous outfit to wear, which means Dolly gets a lot of costume changes.
Chuck (former): Chuck is a Thri-Kreen Battle Smith Artificer who was once a member of the party. He had spent his life keeping his head down, taking steady work both legal and lightly illegal, and sharpening his skills as a mechanic. Before being dragged into an adventure after Dolly interviewed him and shit hit the fan. He recently left the party in pursuit of a new life helping the planet the party just liberated from the grip of a Bandit King. He hopes to repair houses, defeat the last remaining outlaws, and drive out the ghosts and ghouls that linger in the outskirts of the planet's humble towns. One fun fact about Chuck is that he travels with an automaton named MAC who serves as his assistant/bodyguard (though automatons lack intelligence, so it's just controlled by Chuck’s own psionic abilities).
Geraldine: Geraldine is a Human Battle Master Fighter. She is a young debutante from a solar system that claimed its independence towards the end of the long war. She didn’t find her passion in the accounting and logistics industry like her family had hoped, and instead fell in love with the romantic ideals of the wandering cowpoke. After training herself as a sharpshooter, she ran away from home with a healthy chunk of change and a naive, but loving heart in search of her own epic tale. She hopes to live a life like the ones featured in her favorite erotic novels “The Adventures of Michael Hawk”. One fun fact about Geraldine is that she briefly died at the end of the first arc, and that so far, no thrill has been able to match the one she felt during her resurrection, but she’s going to keep hunting for something that comes close.
Prometheus: Prometheus is a Human Great Old One Warlock. He is a wandering fugitive and con man who introduced himself to the party by attempting to con them out of all their money (and nearly succeeding in the case of Geraldine). He carries an old tome that apparently destroys the minds of every mortal who holds it for too long, which seems to grant him incredible power. He manipulates this dark power just as he does the people around him as he runs as far away from his past as possible, using the party as a set of human shields that he may or may not be developing care for. One fun fact about Prometheus is that he is the son of a great noble house. In an effort to disguise this fact, he takes on the persona of “Theodore Dynamis”, a snake-oil salesman with a much lower bounty than the one associated with his true name.
Blackjack (played by the person who was playing Chuck): Blackjack is a Human Profane Soul Blood Hunter. He is a bounty hunter who Chuck has hired to act as the party’s pilot and protector. The party doesn’t know much about Blackjack yet. Only that he suffered a mysterious injury in his past that landed him with several steel prosthetics replacing things such as his legs and lower jaw, and that he has some sort of command of flame and light. So far, he's been all business and action, so it's been impossible to get further information on any of these fascinating elements of his life. One fun fact about Blackjack is that he’s just here for the paycheck. Chuck forced him to promise not to involve the party in the dangerous elements of his past, and so he’s just here to fund his smoking habit and add a few more adventures to his resume.

I've decided to do a little spin on a Favorite Character Bingo Challenge, only instead, I've decided to pull up Two Editions (One for Protagonists, and the Other, for Antagonists).
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Because I happened to have way WAY too many Favorite Characters over the Years besides than having way too many fandoms over the years, I've decided to put up a Separate Favorite Character Bingo lists.
You might be familiar with some of them while the rest is the most that you don't know/unfamiliar with.
Feel free to try this for a Character Bingo of Mine if you do, I won't mind if y'all have fun.✨

Okay, so. The Still World and Twilight World. Don't they feel related? Either in color scheme, function or presentation (we even have particles flying upwards!), they look incredibly alike and I think the worldbuilding implication of having this weird dimension being truly "outside" the story makes a ton of sense to me

digital footprint gonna be crazy but if you wanna fuck garrus i have a good news and bad news for you.
good news: actually you can, uhh…ingest, in theory. provided if it’s sterile (as in bacteria-free, not fertility…)
some chiral molecules just have different properties like L-aspartame (an amino acid) being sweet and D-aspartame being bitter.
if you ingest dextro-food, it’ll probably just pass through your digestive system without being absorbed. not a big issue except you don’t get any nutrients from it and maybe it tastes like shit.
but here’s the bad news: the microorganisms from any dextro-amino acid based planets (like palaven) will be, obviously, composed of dextro-amino acids too. and any creature has a HUGE amount of bacteria residing on their skin.
scientists warned against creating mirror life, bc the bacteria with reversed chirality cannot be detected by our immune system. so they can just infect us, and our immune system will have no response at all. which means dextro-pathogen is a HUGE biological hazard to us. a random harmless bacteria for dextro-life forms can be fatal for us.
i mean the pathogens can be transmitted without direct contact anyway, but my sincere advice is DO NOT fuck a turian or a quarian. i wouldn’t even come any closer than 1km with one of them.
thanks for coming to my TED talk.

Psssst, Lucky! Over here...BOOP! Leaves a basket with a Jack O Moon plushie looking up at you cutely. Runs awayyyyyy
Oh goodness, hi little guy! What a cutie!
But uh... whew...
There's so many plushies to account for... Is there even a job left for a new plushie to help with? Does he need his own designated spot in the house. Will he get along with the moons? I have a bad feeling they'll try to out gremlin one another... But can you really keep them away from each other?
Oh I lost track long ago who even does what anymore.... Eclipse, you handle this one buddy.
Tumblr media
He'll be fineeeeeeeee, Eclipse did a good job so far organizing the other hundreds of plushies, what's one more?

actually no hang on im thinking about worlds and how they work some more. i know in pirate we travel between worlds via the windlanes and such, and we can obviously stand on an open ship deck without, like, needing to worry about breathing. is it a treasure planet/etherium situation, where its like Space But With An Atmosphere? what happens if you fall off the edge of a world? how far does a world's gravity extend-- does it work like a globe, where you can just walk around the edge of a world and wander onto the underside of it? or would you literally just fall into open space?
how do the solar cycles work? the fact that there's astral magic named for the sun and the moon as well as all the iconography accompanying it suggests that those two bodies do exist, but is there an individual sun and moon for each world? how does that affect its orbit? do some worlds just lack either of them like marleybone? polaris DOES have a sun and we know it because of this bit of dialogue when we first get there:
Tumblr media
but it is the same sun we see constantly setting on zafaria? or the same sun we see in that weird liminal space in the mirage prequesting? as far as i can remember most skyboxes dont have a visible sun but i may be forgetting something
and then on the other end of astral magic we know stars exist obviously except they look different on different worlds-- see places like Marleybone and Grizzleheim VS. Polaris. and like obviously outside of the game i know its because they adopted a less cartoony style later on, so they forewent the hand-drawn-looking stars in those earlier two worlds in favor of more realistic ones. (worth mentioning we are all the better for it polaris is one of my favorite worlds strictly for how GORGEOUS it is.) but how is that explained in-universe? is it explained at all or are we just supposed to accept that the stars look different when viewed from different worlds??
i know all of this can probably be explained with Weird Magic Shit but i am a man of SCIENCE damnit i demand plausibility from my fantasy wizard game,

Lore Dump 10: Dragons
If the stories are to be believed, Dragons were the dominant power in the galaxy two thousand years ago. They were beasts of arcane power that no other mortal creature could ever dream of wielding. They were as tall as mountains, they fed on the elements, and some even say they did battle with The Celestine themselves (though no one would ever dare to suggest they won). These creatures had fire in their bellies so strong that they could soar through space and stay perfectly warm, and of course, they could also unleash that fire to destroy legions.
If the stories aren’t to be believed, there is some evidence of a race of space-faring leviathans that may or may not have been dragons. Scholars have found some bones that resemble the creatures, but they’ve been unable to conclusively prove whether or not they are the magical entities spoken of in legend. Because it has been so long, there is much debate as to whether this is just a story, or whether the first Galactic Knights of Old really did come to fame by slaying the last dragons and making the galaxy safe to cross.
Stories about dragons are quite popular, as unlike The Celestine, The Vox Naturae, and the horrid undead things that wander in the dark, no living person has ever seen one. There is an air of mystery and whimsy to them that allows children to fantasize rather than quivering in terror or being taught to bow down in worship.
This is also where the most popular name for con men comes from. There are “alchemists” who wander the galaxy claiming to carry elixirs made from the blood, tears, and bones of dragons. They’ll sell scales, eyes, claws, anything they can convince someone is real. They claim these miracle brews are magical keys to immortality, health, and sexual desirability—though these claims often end with them fleeing town with an angry mob in pursuit. The term “Dragon-Oil Salesman” has evolved somewhat to include anyone who peddles lies in attempts to sell products. Much like Bounty Hunter, this is a very general term to refer to anyone who operates in the field. Though unlike bounty hunters, Dragon-Oil Salesmen have never been accused of attempting to make an honest living.

Edge of Eternities preview panel is happening this weekend at MagicCon Las Vegas! So let's look back at a few pieces of card art that have been previewed already. Above are three images of Legendary permanents plus Radiant Summit which, by the name, sounds like it'll be a land card. Tezzeret's looking a bit buffer than usual. Gorodoro is an Alien Kavu. Dawnsire will either be a Vehicle or however they're treating spaceships in this set.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
As for creatures, I think the humanoid creatures that were previously revealed are all in White except for the Robot/Construct/etc. That one may be Green or Colorless. All of these art pieces are pretty awesome to see.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
And the non-humanoid creatures are just as cool. Baloth Prime? Are we saying Baloths are all alien? Famished Worldsire is interesting but what is it? And the Space Whale, I've said I need that on my wall.
Just a little look to drum up excitement. Can't wait for the preview panel!

Hi! I'm the artist behind Gilded Heart Studio.
I don’t really know what to call the things I make. Artifacts, maybe. Relics. Little personal myths or strange stories that happen to take physical form.
This whole thing started as a side project—a way to make the kinds of objects I couldn’t stop thinking about. Things that didn’t fit anywhere else. A little world inside a glass turtle. A stone heart engraved in 24k gold. Giant dice that feel like they came from a ruined temple. I like making pieces that feel excavated from a world that doesn’t exist. A relic from another timeline. Or something you find in the woods, half-covered in moss, humming with old magic.
My design process is chaotic. I don’t sketch something perfect and then build it. I chase an idea until it stops running. Most pieces go through 10–20 failed prototypes before they settle into themselves. Some stay unfinished for months—or years—until I learn the technique that finally unlocks them. I’ve learned to be okay with that.
I’m an engineering student, so yes, I do put those SolidWorks and Fusion classes to use (ask me how many times I’ve crashed the school computer trying to make a mold from a complex mesh). But these days I lean more into Nomad Sculpt, Blender, or honestly just sketching in a notebook like a little Victorian gremlin.
I love contrast. Hard with soft. Ancient with futuristic. Something brutal and minimal that still makes you feel something. I love when a piece feels like it’s from a civilization far more advanced—and more poetic—than ours. And what I really love about engineering is how sometimes, when it’s done right, it feels like magic. Like you’re holding something impossible in your hand. And maybe it didn’t come from math or code—maybe it came from putting old things together in a new way.
Every piece is made by me. Every design starts with a question.
Thanks for being here. I hope, as you wander through this little world I’ve built, something here makes you pause. Makes you feel. Makes you wonder. And maybe it brings a little magic to your world too.

Another shorter piece today, but definitely one of my favourite pure descriptive pieces I've written in a while. It's a more distant tale than most, but in my mind that's part of the charm.
