J.M. DeMatteis gave us what very well be my personal favorite Carnage quote in Part 4 of the epic Spider-Man: Maximum Carnage crossover!

“THERE… IS… NO… PLAN! Life is meaningless! Chaos! The universe has NO center! It’s creator is a drooling idiot! So repeat after me: the only purpose is NO purpose! The only plan is NO plan!”

It perfectly encapsulates what an insane psychopathic killer religiously dedicated to pure chaos and destruction that Cletus Kasady is!

This was my entry for the Carnage zine “Something Wicked”. I had a real blast doing this, and the zine had so many wonderful contributions.

Movie!Shriek and Movie!Carnage would have loved a Doppel. I’m sure they would have been better parents to them than their comic!counterparts...well. Shriek is a good momma to Doppel...it’s usually Cletus who treats them like crap.

Cletus Kasady physical headcanon that I made because it makes sense:

Major TW for abuse and everything around it

He of course had a rough childhood and he grew up on instability and abuse. Plus I have a very rational thought process of why his Dad shaped him the way he is with the unrelenting violence and an unpredictable mood. His Dad was also the one that killed his mother. I believe that his father was physically abusive and with a few screws loose as well. Genetic. Cletus of course said his dad had no cause to kill his mom (after she tried to kill him, for Cletus trying to kill her) to be a silly trouble maker. But back to Roscoe (dad) being crazy too, he had experience an insane amount of physical abuse from his grandmother up to that point. Then at St. Estes, so I know his dad and Louise (step-mom) weren't nice people either and that was a period that I think effects him more than he lets on.

Roscoe seemed to always have an effect on him from watching him murder his mom, but when that night happened. There was a knife just laying strangely on the table out in the open. Roscoe has also been confirmed as a drinker, so I argue that Roscoe was unpredictable and embedded that chaotic mindset into Cletus. Louise was said to always want Cletus in trouble, and with Roscoe being that way. That knife could have been out for punishments and in order to instil obedience (that was never recieved) he would cut Cletus when he misbehaved. "I'll beat him if he needs it" is what he stated when he killed Louise. Clearly having no issue sending that hammer through his wife's skull in Cletus' flashback. But that knife left out gave him scars across his body and they never really healed, the most notable being facial scars and the cut out of his ear since he tried to kill Louise in the bath. They weren't massive on his body so people wouldn't notice. But his facial scars were deeper because Roscoe was angry. He likely used them as evidence in court against his dad to prove he was guilty to spite him and not just cause issues. If it isnt obvious though he loved the violence of watching a murder live (but we're talking about scars, not his psych stuff. But I got a whole list of things of why Roscoe is important to him through actions and saying he wants to make him proud as a kid in the Wonderful Life issue)

His major body scars are from his days of a serial killer without the symbiote. People of course fought back and has scratches on his chest, stab wounds in his shoulder, and a tear in his hand because people did anything to survive. Of course no one did but he took precautions after each injury to prevent one as bad. His shoulder was the first, then his chest, then his hand. He certainly got good at being a bad person and learned to be brutal from his upbringing and just who he is. He has been called a psychopath and a sociopath, I suppose in his case he can be both. Born with that mentality but his childhood made it worse for sure, if not solidified his way of thinking.

He doesn't have scars after his initial eleven confirmed kills. Thats because after those he has the symbiote from his time with Eddie in the cell. That of course heals him as needed. While the symbiote can heal his scars fully to not be visible. I know Cletus likes the reminder of how chaotic and cruel the world is, being strung across his body. So as a request, the symbiote leaves the scars alone. Of course the symbiote enjoys chaos like him too, so it could be completely willing to show the scars because of that too.

That's my explanation basically and essay because this man consumes my thoughts like a bastard.

Louise deserves better ;-; like killing Roscoe and taking lil Cletus away somewhere safe ;-;

Because of Cletus' broken memories (read: conficting canon information), I am not so sure that she was indeed the safest place for him to run off to during Maximum Carnage.

While there is little to support my theory of her being in any way (read: physically or emotionally) abusive, I'm pretty sure she was neglectful. Compared to Roscoe, she seems a saint, but they were a match made in hell and the worst parent a child with Cletus' tendencies could've asked for.

Yeah, it's all headcanon, but I believe Louise noticed her son's strange behavior early on, and refused to speak to anyone due to her own experiences with psychiatric doctors (read here). Both her and her husband (who can't even deny that redheaded devil as his son when he looks the spitting image of him) saw their worst selves in their child, but refused to take any responsibility for the part they each had to play.

Though I would've loved it if her act of defiance against Roscoe would've have been her last and she snatched Cletus out of his grap and made her escape. Why? Well, I love gothic horror and doesn't this dysfunctional family sound like they'd make for good villain protagonists?

Louise would have nowhere to go, so she'd break into some poor folks' farm house, steal clothes, food and supplies and, when the old man brings out the shotgun, she wrestles with him and it goes off. She becomes a murder that night before her impressionable son's eyes. More than that, they live in the home of that dead couple for a while.

Then, they're on the move again. And Roscoe is right behind them, following their bloody trail. When he finally catches up with them, so do the authorities. Or so you'd think spotting the sheriff's car in the rearview mirror. It's him, and he killed both the sheriff and the deputy. For her. "Woman o' mine turned me into a killer. Get out the car, baby. I'm takin' you home."

So the art is really good here an’ all, even if Shriek has chronic 90′s body- but it’s not quite as bad as it COULD be. But the detail on her face is wonderful.

I don't care what anyone says. I think what they did with Carnage is fun. I just wish they went heavily into it.

Don't be shy, Sony. If you're gonna divert from 'canon'(s). Just say "fuck it," and do your own thing. Makes for an interesting story.

Okay, but what if Cletus secured himself a place in the creepypasta narrator/true crime podcaster online subculture and made enough money to take care of his Mama?

She got her shit together real fast after her son's life was endangered, but she's been struggling to raise him and keep her own mental health in check for most of her adult life.

When Cletus becomes mildly successful, the first thing he does is pay off her debts and buy a house all her own.
