All About Lurking Poll
Voting in polls can go either way for the purpose of this question, if only because I was running up against the text limit on a lot of options already.
Reblog so all the lurkers can (anonymously) let themselves be known! And sample size, or whatever.

It’s so sad to me how scared the Twitter and Reddit refugees are of making mistakes on this website.
Dear refugees, as someone who used to be on both Twitter and Reddit but who uses Tumblr the longest of all sites (besides Youtube):
This is the website without cringe culture. Don’t be ashamed. You won’t get downvoted or beat up for even your weirdest opinions because frankly, 90% of the users on this website are either neurodivergent or queer or a mix of both (me, I’m talking about me)
This website is like the table of bullied kids you always used to avoid in highschool.
We all know we’re different, strange, cringy, obsessive.
That’s why this place holds so little judgement.
We aren’t insecure incels. We embrace our differences.
So if you want to talk about your unhealthy life obsession dedicated to a sidecharacter from an unknown animated movie from 1978 that had approximately 2 minutes of screen time - do it.
Heck even dedicate a whole sideblog to them for fucks sake.
This platform is literally what the ancient prophecy has foretold:
We are cringe, but we are free

I think what is a blight on fandom and creative communities on tumblr far more than "like/reblog ratios" is the people who think they are absolutely entitled to engagement for their work, point aggressive fingers at random strangers for interacting with a post in a different way than they'd prefer, and instilling this anger and fear and bitterness in other creators over factors they have absolutely 0 control over.
Strangers on the internet do not have ill will towards you because they liked something instead of reblogging, in fact they *explicitly* chose an action to show their appreciation, instead of continuing to scroll. Your framing of that action as a "stolen reblog" is entirely a you problem, and you're not helping your case by being incredibly bitter and annoying about it.

I wanted to play around with the designs of the Lurkers in the Jak and Daxter series, originally designed by Bob Rafei, because I really liked his early concept art

The final version of them always reminded me of like, part frog, part crocodile, part ape. So I sketched a few that leaned into the "frog" side.
Side note, does anyone know if that pelt Brutter wears is actually ottsel fur or not? 😨
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Did on sketch of the one from the games, and one based on the gorilla looking version in early development
Tumblr media
Leaned heavily into the "primate" side for a baboon Lurker. And a sheepish Jak.

I think this one is my favorite, a more lizard-like Lurker

The Lilibuel - Concept
Tumblr media
Monsters bound to the Eternal Night.
From top to bottom:
Lurkers Most Common monster Bat-like creatures with large crystals growing out of their backs. When killed, these crystals tend to shatter and explode. Taking their killer with them.
Howlers Common monster Blind daughters of Sorrow. The eyes across their forehead allows the Lich Mother herself to see what is going on outside of her lair. Quick and vicious, they are the tongue of Lilibye.
Groa Uncommon The Servants of Lilibye. They are the fathers of Lurkers and Howlers bore upon the mother of monsters.
The Knights of Eternity Rare The will of The Eternal Night, these children are the bane of human existence. But is that all?
Lilibye Legend The Mother of Monsters.

Attention lurkers
If you're on tumblr and don't have any motivation to change your icon or header image or blog title because you feel like you can't come up with any ideas,
Ask me and ill assign you one of whichever you want. Just ask. Blank blogs will simply get blocked by most people who sift through their followers here. Blank blogs look like bots. I'll give you something to help you not look like a bot. This is an offer to help. Thank you.

A Nightmare on Elm Street (Wes Craven, 1984) Lurkers (Roberta Findlay, 1988)
“Lurkers, in addition to borrowing liberally from Michael Winner’s The Sentinel (1977), draws its most potent themes and imagery from one of the most lucrative horror franchises of the period, the Nightmare on Elm Street (1984–2010) series. The film’s basic premise, which sees a woman plagued by dreams of demonic figures that turn out to be real, is culled directly from the Elm Street series, as are significant aspects of the film’s iconography. Scenes featuring young girls playing jump-rope and singing ominous rhymes, for example, echo similar sequences in the Elm Street films, as does a scene in which the protagonist Cathy (Christine Moore) has a nightmare about being murdered while asleep in the bathtub (“My god, it was so real!” she later exclaims).” — Johnny Walker, from ReFocus: The Films of Roberta Findlay (2023)

Jesus, I’m done. And now I offically welcome all of the 53 out of 505 followers that I highly suspect of being real. Love you all. If you see this, you’re one of the real ones (quite literally)!
But please, for the love of all things holy, set a profile picture and a description. It doesn’t need to reveal any personal information! Just do it like me, pinterest aesthetic pictures that resonate with you/fandom characters you vibe with, pronouns, age and you’re done.
All lurkers, Reddit and Twitter refugees are more than welcome, just PLEASE make it visible that you aren’t one of the 400 bots I’ve blocked today. Because that grants for a much more user friendly experience on this hellsite! Both for you and for me! I’d hate to block an actual person just because I thought they were a bot.

This is a reminder that this blog blocks bot accounts AND those who appear to be bot accounts. If you do not have a profile picture and/or any posts, you will be blocked. If you do not have a profile picture and/or any posts and you have not yet been blocked, you will be very soon during my next purge.
No, I do not check your blog descriptions to see if you're not a bot. No, it is not enough to have a profile picture and no posts. No, I will not go out of my way to ask if you are a bot before I block you. If you're the kind of blog that can be mistaken for a bot, I don't want you here anyway.
Tumblr is a collaborative blogging environment. Participate in it, reblog shit, like shit, and post things, or get lost. If your blog can be mistaken for a bot, you are part of the bot problem and are contributing to the death of tumblr, and I have no sympathy for mistaking you for one. I have, quite simply, lost too many artist friends due to you pos lurkers not engaging in content that you're being given for free to care at this point.
Thank you for your understanding (or more likely lack there of).
