Dating Maeglin Would Include...
Tumblr media Tumblr media
↬ You need to be very patient when it comes to dating this affection-starved elf. He’s been through a lot and has been traumatized; advance with care.
↬ In this relationship, you’re going to be the one in charge because he doesn’t truly understand how a relationship works. The only ones he’s ever known were his parents.
↬ He’s going to come to you for help, even though he's shy, he trusts that your answers and ideas are right and the best.
↬ You are his safe haven; thus, he is going to be glued to your side a lot. He does lots of gauging when it comes to your reaction, terrified that he may have offended you in some way with his words or actions because he understands that you are both from different cultures with knowledge of his mother’s.
↬ With that being said, you’re going to have to show him the ropes of things around the city. If he’s unsure about something, you are the first person he’s rushing to question.
↬ As a blacksmith, he enjoys crafting items for you. Consider it his way of reciprocating his gratitude and love for you. He's big on the actions speak louder than words in the beginning.
↬ He doesn’t have a problem with the dates you prepare for him because any time spent with you is more than enough, however, he has a slight preference for quiet dates.
↬ He mostly enjoys walks or picnics since it’s a moment where you two can openly converse about anything and also be affectionate with one another.
↬ About affections, he does understand what it’s all about but doesn’t know how to reciprocate them properly without appearing awkward. He is also touch-starved, so at the beginning of the relationship, you’ll have to keep it simple.
↬ He enjoys interlocking pinkies with you; it’s not too intense to make him feel overwhelmed, it’s just right.
↬ Hugging and giving each other kisses on the cheek came months later into the relationship, and even then, it was you who initiated it because he was unsure.
↬ He loves the feeling of returning from a meeting and melting into your warm embrace. Your scent, warmth and aura are just comforting. Makes him forget about all the stress.
↬ He does get jealous when others try to speak to you when you’re conversing with him or when he sees someone attempting to flirt with you. Even though you decline their request because you only have eyes for him, he does get insecure.
↬ He knows he’s different and understands why you’d prefer someone instead of him, so you’re going to have to do lots of talking to reassure him that you aren’t planning on leaving him.
↬ Your relationship with him is going to be a building block, you both need to take your time and be patient due to his past traumatic life.

Ok but consider those “Maeglin Finds and Lives With The Feanorians” fics but Baby! Maeglin was taught all their names by badass “balls of steel” Aredhel, so he thinks their nicknames are their actual names.
So Maeglin, upon meeting the Lord of Himring, is timid and respectful but confidently calls Maedhros One-Handed, Famed Kinslayer, “Lord Neylo”.

One thing I always feel very important about the whole Maeglin selling out Gondolin for life & freedom matter is...
Morgoth promised him lordship and Idril AFTER Maeglin already told him about Gondolin’s location and defense secrets.
Yeah obviously the promise of power and Idril might be what kept him in line and continue to cooperate with Morgoth after returning to Gondolin (can be interpreted in various ways from “the world is ending better take care of my own desire” to “the world is ending better preserve what I can still save”)
But the lordship and Idril were NOT what directly caused the initial betrayal.
Here comes my dumb headcanon:
Maeglin initially cracked not because of anything related to Idril and Tuor.
He cracked because of the torture & what Turgon did to Hurin.
When Hurin came to seek help nearly three decades after his imprisonment, Turgon assumed Hurin was released because he sold out the location of Gondolin for freedom. Turgon was overwhelmed by this assumption and let emotions run over his own judgement (again). He directly told the eagle “my heart is shut,” and refused to take Hurin in.
Of course Turgon changed his mind after calming down. But it took too long; the night fell and the eagles could not find Hurin again. From Hurin’s pov he was abandoned by his friend (or even a father figure), and thus was driven to complete despair, crying out in pain, accidentally letting Morgoth know the general location of Gondolin.
I think it is rather possible that Maeglin knew of this, at the moment or later.
Then when he got captured by Morgoth and put through tortures, he would realize he was essentially in the role of Hurin.
Turgon did love Maeglin. But Maeglin knew Turgon treasured Hurin too. The king treasured Hurin enough to make an exception and let the brothers leave the city to return home. Probably after Unnumbered Tears Turgon also built statues in Gondolin honoring Hurin. But when Hurin actually showed up at door and seeked help? Turgon immediately grew suspicious and assumed that Hurin betrayed the city.
And Morgoth could even tell Maeglin what really happened to Hurin. How Hurin endured torture for 28 years without betraying Gondolin, but was viewed as traitor and abandoned by the king of Gondolin anyway. How Turgon became the last straw that break Hurin into leaking the location. How ultimately it was thanks to Turgon’s closed heart that Maeglin got captured.
In a word, I think what caused Maeglin’s betrayal was him realizing that
Morgoth could torture him forever
No one from Gondolin would come to save him (And other realms had fallen so there was really no hope)
Even he suffered forever to keep the secrets, it was expected and not appreciated by Gondolin
Even if he found a way to escape back to Gondolin, he might still be rejected/executed by Turgon because no one was allowed to lead danger to Gondolin (according to “of Tuor and his coming to Gondolin”)
Morgoth already knew the general location, no matter he cope or not Gondolin would eventually be found. And then Turgon would believe it was him that betrayed Gondolin anyway.
So yeah.
--------------------
I just think Turgon rejecting Hurin should has more long term damages than letting Morgoth knew the general location of Gondolin (which was already very bad).
It was something that could send out all the wrong messages and greatly damage the morale. I always imagine the event was kept as a secret, and even most of the lords did not know about the matter.
I think Tuor absolutely was kept out of it and he never knew he was so close to meeting his uncle until after the Fall.
Idril probably knew it, and helped to keep the secret from Tuor, and felt guilty. And that was one of the crucial moments that made she further distrust Turgon’s judgement. (I want all the “my father did an evil thing and I am helping him to keep it as a secret” angst)
Maeglin... Actually fought the losing war along with Hurin and Huor and was there when they sacrificed themselves to help troop of Gondolin escape. IDK I think that’s another “silently pondering in horror” moment for him. And he kept thinking about it, and kept trying to not thinking about it, until Morgoth forced him to think.

Headcanon Crafts for Everyone I Missed Last Time:
Idril: a sculptor. She worked with every kind of stone imaginable, and often went looking for new material in Gondolin’s mines with Maeglin. (Look my Maeglin head canons are complicated but they should get to be friends the narrative has hurt them too much already) She actually preferred not to make elvish figures, instead focusing on strangely beautiful stone landscapes and various animal-like figures. She was actually responsible for Middle-Earth’s version of the gargoyle, having carved several to stand guard over Gondolin. Several elves swore that the statues moved, but she never addressed those rumors. She also liked to paint her work with bright colors, which would’ve been seen as odd back in Valinor, but fit right in in First Age Middle-Earth.
Maeglin: a smith, but his craft was more in-line with Avarin practice than Noldor practice; with much less focus on the idea of making gems and heavier focus on understanding natural geology and the properties of various gems and metals. He knew the mines of Gondolin better than anyone, and wrote plenty about the the earth under the earth. His work also had fairly significant Dwarfish influences. He liked to make mechanically complex pieces, with moving parts or even some internal gear work.
Finduilas: a hunter. Her and her father were both nature people, just in very different ways. She was silent, with all the grace of a dancer, and quick enough to outrun most of what she hunted. She preferred to go after more aggressive animals– wild boar, wolves, bears, even wargs– and leave the deer and rabbits be. She was born in Beleriand, and had never met the Valar, but sometimes, privately, offered up prayers to Orome. She liked to imagine she could’ve been in his hunt, if things had turned out a bit differently.
Celebrimbor: a smith, in the very traditional Noldor sense. Gemworker, specialized in jewelry, made various famously beautiful pieces, etc. Was never quite happy sticking to hairpins and necklaces. Longed to try his hand at imbuing his work with real power, but always talked himself out of it. A whole binder of concepts for works of power sat locked away in a chest in his workshop for centuries. He never talked to anyone about it. He was as ashamed of his feelings for his craft as he was of his feelings for his family. By the end of his life, he’d made peace with only one of those things.
Earendil: a mariner? Alright, he was definitely a mariner, and he loved the ship life– he even built a few boats of his own, in a similar fantastic style to Turgon’s architecture– but he also had a longstanding fascination with the natural world, and filled volumes and volumes of journals with information on various plants, animals, and minerals. But natural lore isn’t a recognized Noldor craft, since it involves learning but doesn’t really produce tangible results. Still, it was a passion he got from afternoons spent learning about geology with “Uncle Mole,” and one he shared with Elrond. Researching the beauty and wonder of nature gave Earendil something to do with his immortal life, and was a big part of the reason Elrond chose to be immortal at all.
Gil-Galad: a king. No, really, he’d been the high-king of the Noldor since he was a child, and hadn’t really had time for trivialities like “finding a life purpose” or “having fun.” He was too busy learning how to stay alive in late stage Beleriand (read: hell) and learning to rule the least cooperative group of elves imaginable. He wanted to be a painter, and while he found enough practice time to get good at his chosen craft; because of how long detailed paintings can take, he almost never had time to actually make anything. He tried not to let it bother him too much. He didn’t always succeed at that.
Elrond: in a bit of a weird spot. Elrond is most associated with lore and healing; but, as discussed, “lore” isn’t considered a craft. And, well. Healing had to be Elrond’s craft, right? He’d been doing it since he was seven, and just about the only person in Amon Ereb who could still use healing powers. And it was good work, and it was rewarding, even if it often left him feeling so burned out and worried that he forgot to eat or sleep. It took him a long time to admit to himself that healing for him was what fighting was to many other elves: a necessity. Truth be told, he’d rather be gardener, working with the earth to create a place of peace and beauty. Also, Elrond is basically a nature spirit. So. It was something he began to explore in the peace of the early Second Age. He found that his Ainuric powers had all sorts of interesting effects on plant life. He also learned how to breed new varieties of fruits, vegetables, and flowers. Still, he never really considered that it could be a proper craft for him. At least, not until he first saw the valley that would one day become Rivendell.

Maeglin and Gothmog...
(HC)
Maeglin was fascinated by the Balrog the first time he saw him in the woods, back then with Glorfindel, Ecthelion and Salgant. This evil, majestic beauty attracted him and never let him go. He knew that he's different since the day he was born. Being traumatised by his parents, he tried his best to fit into the society of his kin but he always stayed an outcast, he never truly became one of them. All this pain suddenly vanished into excitment when he saw the creatures of Angband and the urge to meet them, no matter how it would end, got stronger everytime he saw them from distance…if he just could touch him for only one time..if his fire would devour him, Maeglin wouldn't care…he just wants to feel alive for at least one time in his young but sad life…

@gondolinweek 2023 - Day 2: Ceremony of Silence
Aredhel, Maeglin, Rog and his father (OC) who died in the prison of Angband
My headcanon: in the Ceremony of Silence, they can see or hear from their loved ones' spirits. But they cannot talk to them. If the silence was broken, the spirits would disappear.

Some of my favorite Autistic Elvers for Autism awareness month
Tumblr media
Autistic headcannons below cut
Turgon:
He lines up everything according to color, from his buildings to his food to his books (especially his sketchbooks), repeats most of the things he says at least one time, will go into an eight hour rant about how amazing architecture is if anyone asks a question that just touched it. He has secured routes in his house and other places he is at a lot and is determined to walk precisely there. You can usually see what his route is if there´s a carpet where he walks as it´s usually worn down to almost look like footprints.
He doesn´t handle change well and usually shows his stress and dislike for a situation with silence and glaring.
Caranthir:
He will have a breakdown if something in his plans changes or something unexpected happens, he also cares a lot about how the clothes he wears feel, not necessarily how it looks, and will deny eating something if he doesn't like the texture or color of it. He does math, weavers, and embroidery in his free time.
He likes Maedhros the most as he´s the most understanding of his brothers and doesn´t always ask why he´s reacting differently than others to some situations and when he was smaller and there where too much noise Maedhros would hold his hands over his ears for him so he could stim in peace, and if he ran away from a situation Maedhros would always come check on him, not necessarily talk just be there if needed.
People sometimes calls him cold or cruel as he isn´t good at finding out how other people feel or care, this is unintentional, he does want to care he just finds it hard, if he hasn´t met you yet he really could care less about you and when he hates someone, he goes full on.
Also when Caranthir gets happy he gets really happy and feels the need to tell everyone about it and why, no matter if it´s simply a servant or a good friend or brother.
He needs everything to be precise and when eating he has rules, like how to cut an apple in the same way each time, cut all the food out in the same sizes before he'll even try it eat it, the same way he needs to put on clothes in a specific order.
Maeglin:
He always wears gloves as he doesn´t like the feeling of most surfaces, he knows all there is to know about stones, minerals, and crystals. Sensitive to sound but especially light, Rog makes him a pair of sunglasses when they´re done being wary of each other.
Like Caranthir when he gets happy he does it on another level, although he doesn´t feel the need to tell it to everyone like Moryo does, but a few trusted ones should know.
Maeglin also feels the need to do almost everything in a specific order. He also has to think about every movement of his body himself so it´s not instinct reaching for a glass but taking the energy to get a glass fill it etc, which of course leaves him sometimes using more energy than he has and becoming extremely tired.
Lindir:
He has a whole wall in his room dedicated to flutes, harps, and insects. Everything is bug themed. His social skill is very poor and sometimes he will leave mid in a conversation, just turning around with no explanation, he also goes into small episodes sometimes where he refuses to talk for a few days, that´s mostly triggered if something stressful happens.
Lindir, like Maeglin, has to think about every movement of his body himself so it´s not instinct reaching for a glass but taking the energy to get a glass fill it etc, which makes him tired.
Elrond:
Like Caranthir he can have a breakdown if something doesn´t go as planned or if something comes up he´s unprepared for, he has problems forming longer sentences, unless it´s something he´s interested in and will stare the person he talks with deep into the eyes while fidgeting something, unintentional creepy.
Maedhros once gave him a small yellow sack filled with sand to fidget with, it breaks somewhere in the second age and he has a big breakdown, Gil-galad makes him a new one, first of blue which Elrond won't use, and later one of a jaffa orange he does use.
He won't wear anything that´s not yellow or orange toned and had a lot of breakdowns when he was smaller if the clothes, and sometimes bedding, weren't the right color or if someone pulled his hair away from his face as he used it to stim. He fills Rivendell with as much brown, orange, yellow, and red as he can get away with.
He is highly fascinated by any living organism, be it animal or plant. He does tend to sometimes, unintentionally, hurt people emotional as he finds it hard to feel with other people. He gets easily distracted.
Elrond, like Caranthir and Maeglin, gets hyper happy when he´s happy and would like to tell everyone he likes why he´s happy.
Like Lindir he goes into periods where he doesn´t speak, although there needs to be something more triggering happening than there would with Lindir. Like the third kinslaying or Ereinion´s dead.
Elrond feels the same as Maeglin and Lindir when having to move his body/do something wich means using a lot of energi and being some of the reason he´s tired a lot of the time.

Reverse Gondolin AU family portrait
#silm#silmarillion#idril#tuor#earendil#reverse gondolin au#is this baby earendil's first appearance in the au?#so I decided Idril & Tuor still get married in this au#mostly bc I want Earendil to exist.#i haven't figured out what I want to do with Lomion#but maybe he can be obsessed with tyelpe instead of idril bc they're friends in this au and idril showed up a lot later?#also c&c + celebrimbor moved to gondolin instead of nargothrond since Aredhel lives there#you may notice that tuor has a diff hairstyle & outfit in the au!#this is bc fashion trends in reverse gondolin are more influenced by aredhel's choices than turgons for obvious reasons#hence the white cloaks and shorter (but equally fancy) sleeves#also idril is lord of the mole in the au#my headcanon is that 'lord' as of the lords of gondolin is just the title regardless of gender for the specific role#'lady' is a different role with much less administrative stuff and more social/public-appearance type stuff#aredhel is the white lady of gondolin bc she does Not want to be a lord#so she does the occasional royalty-waves-and-smiles-from-a-tower type event when necessary#but other than that she doesnt have political duties#idril is the administrative/political leader of the Mole in the au hence she is a lord#shes also the lady of the wing bc she married tuor and is part of the house of the wing's nobility but doesn't do their political stuff#and tuor is the lady of the mole#reverse turgon after arrival has less of a interest in politics than canon turgon (the whole eol deal was rather traumatizing and he needs#time to recover)#so he's not one of the Lords but he is colloquially ar-feinion#his official title is some sort of prince#after he reaches a more stable emotional state he helps a lot w the political stuff when aredhel is out#so maeglin doesn't have todo everything himself

Fëanorians and their offspring.
Basically fairly random headcanons where Fëanor has nine grandchildren and his line does not die out.
Maedhros and Fingon marry and have baby Ereinion. In this AU, Maedhros does manage to find the twins Eluréd and Elurín, whom he kept under his care; he even baptizes them with names in Quenya.
Maglor adopts (kidnaps) the twins. Following canon, for a change. Although it turns out that Daeron and he fathered a child while they were still married. They divorced after Doriath, so Maglor never knew his husband was in waiting.
After the death of her beloved cousin, Celegorm keeps the only memory of her, baby Maeglin, at her request (Tugorn, who is Turgon?).
After a night of wine without measure, the always neat Caranthir spends hours in bed with Turgon, which results in little Erestor.
Curufin simply disappeared for a year and when he returned he had Telperinquar in his arms.
Amrod and Amras are the uncles who spoil their nephews.
Tumblr media
Space is limited, so I did not include the Feanorians' spouses. Husbands, or of course, in this AU they are queer.
These are completely random headcanons that come to mind.
The canon has gone to hell.

Lords of Gondolin | Being In An Arranged Marriage With Them
Tumblr media
Request: I’m excited to see what you have written :) if you think it would be fun maybe you could do it for the lords of Gondolin like Glorfindel or Ecthelion? – @hermaeuswhora
A/N: Following my arranged marriage AU, this one has been structured differently since a few characters did not originate in Valinor. Galdor, Ecthelion, Egalmoth and Glorfindel were all written having their arrangements in Valinor upon their return/rebirth, while Rog and Maeglin had theirs transpiring in Gondolin.
Warning: arranged marriage, resentment, negligence, angst, loneliness, mentions of Maeglin pinning after his cousin, sprinkle of fluff and comfort for some
Tumblr media
꒷꒦꒷Galdor꒷꒦꒷
Galdor's demeanour is marked by silence, a weighty silence that those around him cannot ignore, especially in the wake of the news. However, despite his wordless protest, his parents press on with the explanation of his impending marriage.
Confronting this crisis proves to be a perplexing challenge for Galdor. Having traversed the treacherous Helcaraxё, faced numerous wars, and endured the Fall of Gondolin, the third kinslaying, and the War of Wrath, he finds himself at a loss. The complexities of this situation elude him.
Nodding along to the exchanged words, Galdor's mind is a whirlwind of thoughts as everyone joyfully anticipates the forthcoming wedding. Even during the meeting where he first encounters you, he seems neither present nor absent, caught in a state of detachment.
While greeting you with respect and learning about you with nonchalance, Galdor's distant gaze is unmistakable. It's not meant as disrespect, but the prospect of an enforced marriage weighs heavily on anyone's sanity.
As the entire arrangement unfolds, transitioning into shared living and wedded life feels surreal to Galdor. Despite your animated discussions about future plans, his aloofness persists, absorbing your words without full comprehension.
Playing the role of a perfect husband, Galdor fulfils his duties diligently—strolls, teatimes, meals, social gatherings, festivals, and even family dinners—all executed in quiet compliance. Eventually, a moment of realization dawns on Galdor, prompting him to address the lack of sincerity that has quietly persisted in the background.
“Forgive me if this seems all too sudden, Y/N, but…my behaviour. While you may not have noticed the way I treat and respond to you—without earnestness—I fear that you do not deserve the way that I am currently. Please allow me to explain—all this, the arrangement. I have yet to grasp the true nature and because of that, I have not been true to you as I have been with myself. And because of this, I wish to start over.”
Your innocence is the reason why you've struggled to reconcile with his apparent lack of seriousness. Yet, you graciously dismiss his explanation, assuring him that he exceeds your expectations. Galdor experiences a mix of relief and concern, sensing that you may be overlooking the depth of emotion behind his actions.
However, with his newfound awareness, his role as your husband remains unchanged, yet now, his gestures carry a heightened emotional resonance. Every 'good morning, evening, noon, and night' carries a weight of significance. His smiles and laughter become more genuine, and conversations take on a deeper sense of purpose.
Galdor gradually comes to terms with the marriage dynamics, understanding that you had no say in the arrangement. Despite any reservations, he chooses not to express dissatisfaction, focusing instead on building a foundation of trust and comfort for your shared life together.
Tumblr media
꒷꒦꒷Ecthelion꒷꒦꒷
Upon his joyous return to the Blessed Realm, marking the end of his long sojourn in Mandos, Ecthelion is swiftly met with unexpected news: the proclamation of his intended marriage. In the backdrop of his years of carefree existence in Beleriand, this revelation catches him entirely off guard.
The nobleman is plunged into a state of incredulous uproar, vehemently opposing his parents' wishes. However, his return to Valinor signifies his subjugation to his father's authority as the true Lord of the House of the Fountain. Despite Ecthelion's resistance, he finds himself reluctantly compelled to meet you and your parents.
While you, elated at the prospect of uniting with the renowned Lord Ecthelion, bask in the glory of his Middle Earth victories, he languishes in the waiting room, brooding like a disgruntled child. The entire encounter is marred by Ecthelion's rebellion against the terms negotiated between his parents and yours.
Concern begins to gnaw at you, fearing that the esteemed Lord you heard tales of in Middle Earth might be a façade. Ecthelion, harbouring no ill will towards you, unfortunately channels his distrust of his parents and frustration with yours through piercing glares directed at you.
Despite Ecthelion's fervent protests, both sets of parents remain indifferent, leaving the two of you alone in the waiting room to familiarize yourselves, while they withdraw to deliberate wedding arrangements.
Ecthelion maintains a frosty demeanour throughout, unable to muster the warmth required to mask his displeasure. His attempts at melting the ice are restrained, and he refrains from taking the conversational lead, leaving you to navigate the uneasy exchange.
“I apologise if I have insulted you in some way, Milord. It was not my intention to make you feel discomfort through this arrangement, but if it pleases you, I will do my best to limit our interactions to reduce the ambience this arrangement brings you.”
As your words reach him, a subtle twinge forms in his heart, though all he offers in response is a nod in your direction, a silent acknowledgment of your compassion.
Living with Ecthelion demands a mutual respect for privacy, ensuring that both of you have your own space. Shared breakfasts and mealtimes are a rarity, occurring only if you manage to catch him at the opportune moment; otherwise, you'll find yourself dining alone. Much of your time will be spent in solitude, interrupted only by occasional check-ins to ensure your comfort is consistently met.
Despite his reserved nature, rest assured that Ecthelion strives to convey essential matters regarding the household or family. While he harbours resentment for the forced marriage, he recognizes his duty to fulfil the basic role of a husband in meeting your needs.
In the public eye, Ecthelion maintains a façade of unity, well aware that the whispers of Valinor surround your union. Whether at events or social gatherings, his pride compels him to wear a smile and engage in polite chatter with you on his arm, concealing the fact that the icy distance between you two remains intact.
Tumblr media
꒷꒦꒷Glorfindel꒷꒦꒷
Upon his return to the Blessed Realm after years in Middle Earth, his parents warmly greet him, unveiling the surprising news of an ongoing arranged marriage. Glorfindel, caught off guard, contemplates whether to respond with a forced laugh or unleash a string of profanities at this unexpected revelation. Without hesitation, he turns to his father, demanding clarity in an instant.
Much to Glorfindel's chagrin, the reality of an arranged marriage for the esteemed young Lord becomes apparent upon his return. As the true Lord of his house, his father's authority leaves Glorfindel with limited options, compelling him to voice his protests and seek his mother's intervention, given the deep respect he holds for them.
This incarnation of Glorfindel is far from the merry and radiant being known during his time in Middle Earth. You who were acquainted with tales of Lord Glorfindel's past, witness a stark contrast. He avoids direct eye contact, concealing his anger and ensuring you are shielded from its full force.
His resentment is not directed at you, but rather at the arrangement orchestrated by both sets of parents. Despite his inner turmoil, Glorfindel endeavours to maintain composure in your presence, reserving his desire to flip tables and shatter glass for moments when you are not around. For now, he remains outwardly passive.
It's evident that he grapples with inner turmoil whenever you are nearby. Despite his sincere efforts, tension underscores his actions. The façade, crafted to sustain a smooth relationship given his dispute with both sets of parents, endures for a considerable duration before finally unravelling.
“I’m sorry! I truly believed that I could hold out while upkeeping this façade, but it has done more harm than good. Please do not believe that I hold something against you, it’s our parents. I know that you’re a lovely person to be around and do not deserve this lowly behaviour from me, so I wish to apologise and seek forgiveness while wishing to start anew. Perhaps with a friendship?”
While you may have hoped for a more immediate romantic connection, Glorfindel's desire to start as friends is a thoughtful approach, far preferable to the prospect of a sudden end, as you've heard in others' experiences. Throughout the relationship, Glorfindel consistently strives to be amiable and reliable, ensuring a solid foundation.
Glorfindel remains steadfast in controlling his temper, especially when his parents scrutinize your relationship. His commitment is not just to appear perfect but to genuinely be the best arranged husband possible.
As seasons turn, you witness the side of Lord Glorfindel that has captivated Middle Earth. Your days are infused with humour and comfort, and should you desire more of his company, it is readily available.
Throughout your marriage, Glorfindel is attuned to your needs, adjusting his actions to bring you comfort. Whether you seek space, a new garden, an expanded house, or simply wish to deepen your connection, he willingly embraces and supports your desires.
Tumblr media
꒷꒦꒷Egalmoth꒷꒦꒷
Tables are being flipped and profanities are leaving his mouth in a swirl of furry. He can’t believe, despite how grown he is and all the things he has faced on his own in life, his parents still wish to dictate his love-life with an arrangement. He knew such acts were popular among the royal family, never suspecting that he would be subjected to the trend.
Egalmoth refuses to submit so lowly to allow someone to select a spouse for him to spend his eternal peace with. The power he once held as a Lord to Kings in Middle Earth is stripped away as he returned as the son of a Lord who he must abide to.
The room takes on an unprecedented chill, surpassing even the biting cold of winter. During the meeting, as your parents bask in their satisfaction, Egalmoth directs a piercing glare at the table, as if intent on searing holes into its surface.
Despite your attempts to bridge the gap and quell the fiery tension, Egalmoth remains steadfast in maintaining distance. His demeanour and actions are unyielding, operating on a frequency of self-satisfaction that defies your attempts to find common ground.
The living arrangement entails cohabiting with a virtual stranger; it's akin to sharing a dwelling with a spectre. Greetings are reduced to mere "good morning" and "good night," a routine destined to persist. Even the entreaties of fellow Lords fall on deaf ears as they endeavour to persuade him to give the relationship a chance.
Frustration mounts as Egalmoth actively avoids you, seemingly going to great lengths to dodge encounters that are not of your making. Despite your earnest efforts to cultivate some semblance of acquaintance, he prefers to exist as a ghost, perpetuating an unsettling distance between you.
“You seem to believe that I had something to do with this arrangement when I didn’t know who you were until your arrival. I hate it just as much as you do, so face it! We’re stuck like this unless you wish to separate which you can. I don’t know what’s holding you back, but I’m trying to make things bearable and you’re not helping. I’m tired, so please…just tell me you don’t want me around…”
Egalmoth was taken aback when he witnessed the tears welling up in your eyes in response to his distant demeanour. Though he never intended to inflict pain through his communication style, he found himself inadvertently doing so, leaving him feeling regretful and remorseful. His initial goal was to avoid forming deep emotional attachments, not to cause you distress.
Despite his reluctance to fully embrace the role of a husband to someone not of his choosing, Egalmoth recognizes the need to bridge the emotional gap between you two. While he maintains a certain level of distance in his affections and gestures, he is committed to projecting a more approachable and interactive persona whenever circumstances allow. One tangible step in this direction is sharing daily breakfasts and lunches with you.
Over time, Egalmoth acknowledges the importance of overcoming his reservations and investing more freely in your relationship. He endeavours to set aside his differences and foster an environment where a meaningful connection can thrive. Realizing that accepting the role of a husband may require an extended period, he opts to first establish a foundation as a supportive friend before gradually navigating the complexities of marital ties.

The giant craftsman is confused at the words spilling from the lips of his advisor since Gondolin was a place of freedom. Having come from a rough background and learning about the Noldor culture, he felt like this was a contradiction, but obliges after they informed him it was frequently practiced.
Rog patiently meets his future spouse and their parents, wanting to go along with the arrangement as he complies with the customs of the Noldor. It does not come as a surprise the first time you meet the giant blacksmith; he is as gentle as ever and makes you feel welcomed. It’s your parents who treats the union as automatic boost in society.
As much as Rog wasn’t interested in getting married, the choice he was offered made his idea on the situation flip. You didn’t appear snobbish or greedy for power which made him all the more open to accepting to court you and proceed with a wedding eventually.
This being his first relationship, he is cautious to not mess anything up and pray that this marriage would be successful. He listens to all your needs and wants, going out of his way to fulfil them as best as he could. At times, he would turn to the other Lords, as unwedded as they are, for guidance.
The only thing Rog doesn’t like is addressing you in conversations as his arranged spouse or his spouse he earned through an arrangement. It never dawned on him the stain it would leave on your title when he agreed to wed you. Now he makes sure to never allow the terms ‘arranged’ to be used when addressing you. It makes him wish you two could have met another way because it’s a constant reminder how you were both forced.
“It never occurred to me how much I would come to despise the term ‘arranged’ when referring to you. I’ve grown fonder of you day by day as this marriage progresses. But rest assured, you have nothing to fear when it comes to our love. That, to shall grow stronger for you as the days wield overhead.”
You truly have no issues or quarrels with Rog through your entire marriage. As the Lady/Lord of his house, you will be spoilt endlessly with riches from his crafts that others may be jealous at the lavish life you are living and how dearly your husband spoils you rotten.
Attending dinners the other Lords hosted will be extended to you and even they would warmly welcome you as their friend’s spouse. Gifts would be exchanged, along with praises and jokes that their gentle-giant friend married before them, and he needed to teach them his tricks.
You don’t have anything to fear when it comes to your future with Rog. Out of all the Lords, even Glorfindel, Rog is most open to the idea and content with progressing things to truly become a happy couple, forgoing the friendship stage.

Maeglin is confused and in a silent outrage because you were not the person he wanted to end up in a relationship with from the very start. His true desire was his cousin, and after being aware of this, his uncle chose to construct an arranged marriage to deter his focus on another person.
This isn’t going to be one of those ‘his heart turned from her to you to moment he saw you’ situation because his desire will continue to focus on his cousin, and it will be displayed through his protests when his uncle summons you all for a gathering to offer the arrangement.
Your parents are pleased since Maeglin is the King’s heir and by marrying him, it would make you a royal, so immediate status boost. You on the other hand have been aware of the Prince’s interest for another and already understood your position throughout this marriage whether you were for or against it. Your entire life would become nothing more than being his spouse with a title while he lusts after someone else.
Deep down, he has it somewhere that you are apart of this arrangement to sway his focus. Makes him distant and negligent all the more. You can try to reach out and pacify the situation for him to pardon your presence, but it doesn’t even make sense because Maeglin had never accepted you as his spouse.
To him, you’re like a guest living in his house after he was forced by his uncle to make your stay comfortable—which he does for the basic commodities. If you want to have a difference made, take it up with the King, but even he doesn’t have a say in the privacies of a married couple.
However, Turgon does his best to ensure that you and Maeglin are allowed to spend more time together in hopes of building a relationship. You and Maeglin would be invited to dinners, balls and festivals as a couple in hopes of something blossoming. However, any conversations would have to be created by you, even when the other Lords congratulate you both or initiate conversations, it’s you doing most of the talking.
“My Prince, might we speak? I know that your focus lies elsewhere and I am not here to sway if you think so. All I wish is simply to live a peaceful life as your spouse until my presence is no longer required…I don’t know how long that would be. But perhaps during my time under your household, we can be well acquainted with one another a little more?”
It is an internal struggle in his mind to acknowledge your words because he doesn’t know if this is a trick where he would end up gaining interest or if you were being genuine. He was so focused on lusting after his cousin that your attempts at making your time with him bearable were shot down.
Maeglin truly doesn’t know at this point whether to shift focus onto you during your time with him or to let you go because he believes that you would continue to be hurt if you stayed at his side.

Ok, idk where I’m going with this but fourth age Valinor fic where everyone get released from Mandos.
Aredhel and Celegorm are besties again and Curufin basically adopted Maeglin the second he stumbled out of the Halls. Celebrimbor loves spending craft days in the forge with his new ‘baby brother’.
One day, Aredhel receive a note from one of Námo’s maiar that Eöl is soon to be reembodied soon and she is expected, as his wife, to wait for him out of the halls. She, understandably, has a huge meltdown, and her brothers are ready to march on Mandos and send Eöl right back into the halls the moment he’s out.
But Aredhel doesn’t want Turgon to be judged for kinslaying or something like that. So she decides to elope. The status of Míriel and Finwë is a very clear precedent that, if one remarried, the deceased spouse must remain in Mandos forever. So, she and Celegorm vanish for a few days for a ‘hunting trip’ and return married. The Valar are tearing their hair at this new situation, fearing Maeglin will turn into a Fëanor 2.0.
I don’t know how it would end but Eöl is stuck in the halls, Turgon’s very angry to learn Celegorm’s his new brother in law (he does concede he’s still better than Eöl) and Aredhel is very smug to have tricked the Valar the way she did, and she also gives a giant middle finger to Námo.

Maeglin looks (kind of) like an orc
So I noticed, that a part of the silmarillion fandom aperantly doesn´t konw, that Maeglin looks a bit orcish! So I just wanted to put it out there again. In the "The fall of Gondolin" book he is described as having dark skin, like an orc.
Here come my thoughts on that:
So I am pretty sure that this doesn´t simply mean that he is black, but that he has some grayish color going on. Why else spesificly say, that that makes him look like an orc and not litterly anyone else with dark skin. I am pretty certian that this is because Eöl himself was already a bad person and messed up due to his dark spells, but also, that the rape might have played a part. I mean, orcs are made from torturing elves, and I am sure, that we all can agree, that rape is a form of torture.
So Maeglin, beeing born from rape and having an evil father, is something between an elf and an orc. This is also why I think that it was so easy for Morgoth to mindcontrol him. Poor boy.
I hope you can follow my train of thought XD

”You said the Vala in black is a mourner?” Maeglin looked up from reading through a handful of Salgant’s harp scores. A conversation from when the Lord of the Harp had first befriended a grieving , freshly orphaned young elf. When Maeglin had first learned more of the Valar than the brief words Aredhel could spare in Eol’s absence.
“Nienna is the Weeper, yes. She comforts those who have died. It is why she was invoked at the funeral.” There were lots of things Maeglin did not know about Noldorin customs, much of which Aredhel had simply neglected to teach him. But Salgant did not ridicule him for his ignorance, instead treating his never ending questions with patience. Even now he stopped his hands to give Maeglin’s question his full attention. “Though she is not the one to call the fëa once it has left the hroa. It is the Doomsman of the Valar who does that. Though there are those who simply refuse the call.” Salgant dropped his attention to the lathe before him, the mask he was shaping. The scent of cut cedar warmed the air. “Those who might not heed the call to Mandos, those who wish to remain Houseless—to say nothing of those who wish not to leave this land for one they’ve never seen.”
A surge of fear had Maeglin’s fingers almost tearing apart the parchment in his hands. He watched the older elf with wide eyes. Might not heed… “Will…will I be able to see Emel after she is reborn?”
But Salgant merely nodded as if there were no question as to Aredhel’s decisions. “I am sure of it. Should you die here—and I pray upon the grace of the Valar that you do not—you would also be called to the Halls of Mandos, where all the dead receive comfort and healing.”
Something tightened in Maeglin’s chest and he once more felt the prickle of tears in his eyes. He whipped his head away, ostensibly to examine the nearby masks Salgant had nearly finished for an upcoming festival, all tassels and gold and richly layered paints. “Is it…peaceful? In the Halls?”
Salgant gently set down the wooden mask he’d been shaping. He looked out the window at the plaza below, but Maeglin felt as if he was looking with those kind eyes at him. “I would imagine it is so. A place where you can lay your burden down. Where all pain and hurt is soothed away. At least, I would hope so.”
Maeglin remembered belatedly that Salgant’s brother died upon the Ice. Perhaps Salgant missed him just as much as Maeglin missed his mother. He dropped his watering gaze to the music scores in his lap.
A hand rested on the top of his head, patting softly. For a heartbreaking moment he could pretend it was Aredhel’s hand stroking his hair, as was her wont. But she was gone. And he wouldn’t see her unless the Ban was lifted and they could sail across to a world he’d never even dreamed of. She was so far away and Maeglin felt every inch of that distance.
So when Salgant pulled him into a hug, he went gratefully.

Reciprocity of Forgiveness
Tumblr media
Pairing: Maeglin x reader
Summary: Maeglin watches his uncle's features twist in rage as their eyes meet and all that greets Maeglin is unfiltered hatred. "Us Finweans don't betray our own blood. Whatever your son is he is not our blood.
Tumblr media
"Why must he be here?" Turgon muttered and just from his scrunched eyebrows it was clear that Fingolfin's secondborn was minutes away from gracing all gathered with the famed Feanorian rage they did not sign up to witness.
A small crowd formed around the looming elf. "You can't just say that to my son," Aredhel added. Her tone was nowhere as loud as her brother but it held a subtle note of her sorrow.
The said son, huddled in a corner. Trying to avoid any or all possible eye contact with his uncle.
"Tirion welcomes no traitor,"
"Brother-"
"Father-"
Both Aredhel and Idril speak at once and Maeglin wishes to vanish into the air. He truly does not care enough for this feast but his mother...
Turgon does not face Maeglin. Even after all these years, he refuses to acknowledge the nephew he had once cared so much for. Turgon who had once trusted Maeglin with his city and his people.
"Brother! My son has already repented for so long," Maeglin cringes as his mother pushes him forward, closer to his fuming uncle. "And he is a part of this family," Aredhel unwaveringly faces her brother.
Maeglin watches his uncle's features twist in rage as their eyes meet and all that greets Maeglin is unfiltered hatred. "Us Finweans don't betray our own blood. Whatever your son is he is not our blood. Must be fro-"
"Ai, here I thought my prude sensibilities would be spared from this nuisance." The hall falls silent as a voice that rings with the might of a majestic waterfall fills the room.
Maeglin's eyes wander to look for its source, "never thought I would hear such righteous words from a kinslayer." He finds you. And a sane part of his mind should be surprised at your words but he's too enthralled to care for anything else in existence.
You stand tall with the light of trees glimmering in your eyes. A sign of your age. Something that Maeglin notices but remains unbothered by. He never got to see the bloom of Telperion, the trees were gone way before his birth. But as he takes you in, he can't help but doubt if even Teleperion could have outshined you.
At first glance, he wonders if you were somehow a Maia of Varda. The sun, the stars, and the moon seem to reflect an iota of the light that you held. A soft jingle alerts him and he noticed the silvery crown that matches your fair hair. Your every step is followed by a mellow clink of your bracelets, the embellishments of your crown, and your anklets that he notices as he catches a glance of a sliver of your feet.
Dressed in lilac robes you stand taller than most Noldor. As most Teleri did. You are almost as tall as his uncle who he seems to have completely forgotten about.
"You speak as if you never wronged a soul Turukano," you saunter as Maeglin finds you closer with every step you take. You tilt your head as a mocking smile forms on your lips and Maeglin wonders what your true smile would be like. What would it be like to witness and be a reason behind it?
"Last time I knew of it, all that Finweans were really good at was slaying their own kind and stealing what did not belong to them like cowards," You stand next to Maeglin and the hall remains quiet leave for your voice. The hidden steal in your eyes is not gone unnoticed by anyone. Even Maeglin, who is almost too lost daydreaming, can feel the precarity of the situation.
"Did your father try to murder your mother? Or did you grow up with parents who held little love for each other? From what I remember you did not grow up confined in a forest either," your smirk grows wilder as Turgon remains silent.
On the other hand, Maeglin, feels his heart drop. He feels hot shame fill him. You knew...you knew everything. There was no hope...who would love him after all he had done.
For a moment Maeglin considers stepping in and saving you the effort of defending him. However, you continue as his uncle continues avoiding your gaze.
With a faux look of confusion you speak, "Explain it to me, what was your excuse for killing a room full of my kin. Unarmed ellon at that!" Next to Maeglin Idril flinches as your voice raises.
"Tell me all of your righteousness and your suffering. Give me a damned reason of how you could bear killing fathers who were trying to protect their children while your daughter waited for you on the same shores." The light of your eyes shines blindingly and for a split second, an image flashes in Maeglin's mind.
Rotten flesh, blood, red waters, an arrow. Maeglin sees hands...his hands or maybe yours fumbling to stop the blood that flows from the body he finds himself looking at. Silver hair, eyes similar to yours, and the crown... It was your memory. The vision is gone before he realizes and by the look on his uncle's face, it is clear that the vision was not solely for him. His uncle too had seen it.
You lean in towards Turgon, "My brother offered you forgiveness. Letting go of the past." your finger accusingly jabs at Turgon. "He did not lose his city to the pride of building it. He lost it to your foolishness, yet, he forgave you. He did that for his people and yours. So, I hope you stop flaunting this false perception of your mightiness. Otherwise holding on to grudges for ages, we can do that better than you."
Maeglin gawks as he realizes your identity. The survivng monarch of Teleri. Olwe's younger sister, you wink at him with your previous anger nowhere to be seen.
Stepping away from Turgon you gracefully pick a nearby glass of wine. "By Eru! Lighten up people," you add as if you hadn't just changed Maeglin's entire world.
