(Ao3 heads-up: all my works are only shown to registered users)
Once upon a time, I wrote a really short story about pitfalls and downfalls of the one and the collective. In truth I'd had a brief spark of inspiration about a time-travelling plot twist.
Teenager me was very proud of this short piece of very amateur literature, because I thought being extremely vague about the gender of the space tyrant was incredibly progressive and not at all a manifestation of my own oblivious and not unique agender ass.
My go-to idea for publication was self-publishing, so a few months ago I had decided to test it out with a novelette titled Inferno. Well, self-publishing is darn hard, and I've had enough of testing, so Inferno has been retired and is not only free in full on Ao3 and Wattpad, but I've changed its title into Legacy of Mayhem and several paragraphs while I was at it.

Star-children aren’t an oddity, but Ember, volatile like fire, born of death and new light, sure is–a very troublesome, talkative one, who has been kidnapped (twice) by a very miffed warrior, survivor of an apocalypse yet to come.
Duly named Miff, said warrior has the mission of challenging Time itself and its rule over History. After a first merciful, failed attempt he must find another way to avoid the rise of a tyrant to lunacy.
To avoid Mayhem.
Two stubborn people on the run from governments and monsters, from the past that becomes the future, with the task of saving the universe twice–once each. If they don’t drive each other crazy first.
Focusing on the interactions between Ember and Miff and their conversations, this work's purpose is to explore how the burden of society’s greed and expectations brings about the downfall of the individual and of itself.

Thor, while Jane watches on astounded: You call it science, my ancestors called it magic. I come from a place where they are one and the same.
Fucked up how humanity discovered electricity and radiation and made machines and learned to make airplanes and cured diseases and our takeaway isnt that "Some Magic Is Real And Here's Why", but that magic is fake this is big boy science and it's totally not magical

The weirdly competent Doctor
So! The Watchtower's Medical Bay is a hub of constant Activity. With the number of Heroes who work under the Justice League, there are always injuries, health check-Ups, and illnesses that need healing.
But with the amount of Variant Biologies that those Heroes have, it's always a guessing game as to how to help them best. Some Metahumans react positively to penicillin, but others react like it's their Kryptonite. Some Aliens have anatomy similar to Humans, others are so different you can't tell the Stomach from the Bladder.
So when they hired a New Doctor for the Medical Bay, they had to run him through an entire Course on Variant Biologies and how best to treat specific Heroes. It was long and difficult to remember fully, but it was necessary for him to know.
But then the new Doctor started correcting Them.
"Actually, Martian's react better to the Syrup of Eucalyptus Plants better than Penicillin, since Eucalyptus is very similar to a medicinal plant from Mars which they used in many of their antibiotics."
"I don't think just pumping double doses of sedative is the best way to calm down a Speedster, that could have adverse effects on their body. Perhaps try Psychic Intervention? Their minds move a Mile a Second, but if you can calm them down their bodies will follow suit."
"Of course you use Micro-Doses of Kryptonite to operate on Superman! What else would you do?! I don't know, maybe ask JLD to enchant your Equipment to make use of Kryptonian suseptiblity to Magic? The Kryptonite is just gonna give him Cancer!"
Of course the Doctors didn't take kindly to being rudely corrected by a newbie, and Fired him on his first day.
Then a few days later their usual Treatments don't work, and they decide to give those strategies the Quack Doctor gave them out of desperation.
And Lo and Behold, they work! Martian Manhunter is fully healed and feels much better than the previous times he has needed surgery. Apparently they used a different Antibiotic that worked better with his Biology. Which was incredible, how had they figured it out?
Another Doctor you say? One who was experienced on Martian Biology and Medicinal History? He would very much like to meet with the man!
...
What do you mean you fired him for talking back?!

Verdante is a world after the end. Hopeful communities thrive where humans and ICE (Intelligent Cybernetic Entities - technology born sentient after the fall of the old world) live in hard-won peace. But the scars of the past haunt them. Poisoned ruins, mutated half animal/half robotic beasts, and unstable relics.
What does one find in a world that's healing from an apocalypse?
Villages and towns separated by time and under-population.
Rogue warlords and tech-overlords that try (and typically fail) to control the regions.
Natural disasters from old-world echoes.
Mutant wildlife and poisoned places that refuse to die quietly.
The world knows what came before. Not in fullness...but enough.
The ICE remember; walking archives that live and breathe sun and electricity. Living proof that the old world happened, and that something survived.
The humans work to build, work to breathe, work to live. They grow what they know and craft what they can. Nature embraces them like old friends.
Together? The two races are learning to thrive in a world that died and breathed again.
Welcome, traveler, to Verdante.

A connection of magic and high technology.
I love that both Tony and Stephen are very innovative scientists in their own fields.

my personal favourite interpretation of those sorcerer supreme tony versions is that he has simply always been doing magic and just never really realized because, of course he has. transistors don’t work like that. magnets don’t work like that. no one else on the planet can make technology work the way he makes it work. to be clear. transistors do not and cannot do the shit he makes them do. sorry buddy i know you wanted to do science but unfortunately you’ve always been doing mage fuckery. rip.

For over 40 years, Monterey Bay Aquarium’s Sea Otter Program has helped southern sea otters bounce back—turning the tide for these critters! 🦦🌊
💙 Our pioneering surrogacy program pairs stranded pups with otter moms who teach them survival skills before they return to the wild. 🔬 Our scientists study otters’ lives, populations, behaviors, and health to support their recovery.
Tumblr media
🏠 We partner with zoos and aquariums to find homes for non-releasable otters and share our expertise to boost the species’ survival.
Tumblr media
🌎 More recently, our team has been monitoring the potential environmental effects of the Moss Landing battery fires on Elkhorn Slough, home to over 100 sea otters. By teaming up with conservation groups and agencies, we're collecting vital data to protect sea otters, their invertebrate prey, and the entire ecosystem.
Together, we’re working for a future where sea otters thrive! 🦦💙

Quick tip for witches: take everything anybody says about quantum physics in relation to magic and spirits with a grain of salt. Basically none of these people actually understand quantum physics, and they're all butchering it to make it seem like an explanation for their beliefs. As tempting as it might be to accept and repeat what they're saying, it's also irresponsible and misleads people about what we actually know about quantum physics.
