Ok you asked for a Gen/Irene song, a Peter/Harriet song, and a Jude and Cardan song may I suggest: Labyrinth for Gen/Irene (break up break free break through break down you would break your back just to make me break a smile); Lavender Haze for Peter/Harriet (they’re bringing up my past/you weren’t even listening etc ie the past making her think the future is compromised staying in the lavender haze); and Hits different for Jude/Cardan (argumentative antithetical dream girl, slur your name as I’m leaving etc) although mastermind could also be, but I believe that was the Bobby/Frankie song? so we won’t take that

I'm obsessed with Labyrinth for Irenides!!!! because ONE it was a maze/labyrinth that led Gen to the gift and to her, and TWO the whole "oh no" of it all which is such a serious oh no for them, and THREE in the midst of all the drama and life and death and heartbreak there IS that lightness in their relationship that you put your finger on!! it's so fraught and fragile but he really is just in it to make her smile!! to set her free!!!!!

in all honesty I have Moral Hangups with Lavender Haze which are making it hard for me to appreciate it. you're right about the lines you point out, as well as "all they keep asking me is if I'm gonna be your bride" which is even MORE annoying for poor Harriet because she's not even DATING Peter she's just solving murders and going boating with him and letting him buy her chess sets etc but also everything about Lavender Haze that makes me feel errmm uncomfy also reminds me more of Harriet's relationship with the man that was killed in Strong Poison? she agreed to stay in the lavender haze because she loved him, but that compromise ended up really hurting her and it's why she won't even give Peter a chance for so long.

OH MY LOVE IS A LIE -- because that's what Jude ALWAYS tells herself, about EVERYTHING, it has to all be a lie because if it's real then you have to open yourself up to hurt!!! I think the first verse is Jude and the second verse is Cardan, "argumentative antithetical dream girl" is Jude and "is it okay? is it you?" is Cardan!! this one is my favorite. the boppy vibe of it is somehow absolutely perfect for them. DEFINITELY Mastermind as well, "no one wanted to play with me as a little kid" is both of them so much!! (Mastermind could also be Gen and Irene except that Irene had absolutely no idea lol she did NOT know the entire time that Gen was scheming to marry her. Mastermind is more Gen scheming to take over his cousin's country and Eddis is like "yeah and? the gods told me all about it")

Word vomit here but thinking abt like y'know how Lee is Extra and Eccentric and Lavish and all that and I mean ofc he likes all that otherwise he wouldn't indulge in it but also what if it's also fuelled by a desire to make his mark and be his own person, 'cause like he was an orphan boy on the streets so he would already have experienced a kind of loss of individualism back then, but then also when he was adopted he was adopted solely to serve as a rival to Kazuya, like that's gotta fuck you up, your existence in your household and everything you do is to be compared to your brother, if you do well in school it isn't 'Well done, Lee!', it's 'Get your act together Kazuya, Lee's performing better than you', if you perform exceptionally in training it's 'Kazuya you're becoming sloppy', you are not your own person you are just an extension of your brother, and so maybe he buys the big mansions and gets the fast cars and dresses loudly and sparkly and emblazons everything with unicorns and roses and purple because these things are 100% hIM, these are solely part of him and who HE is, you see him and you see his things and you will think of Lee Chaolan before you think of anyone else

a small tidbit: gen has multiple lil collections including one of signed fall out boy vinyls, another of antique daggers, and another of monster pull tabs she started in high school + about five other very random collections. this does, obviously, vary depending on the lifetime but in core in base core era, she has so many fucking trinkets y'all like so many.

🥰 The Secret Lives of Color (Kassia St. Clair, author & narrator) - {nonfiction} This was rec'd in one of my discord servers as 'If you are ever in the need for a pleasant-sounding British woman telling you Interesting Facts About Colors then may I recommend The Secret Lives of Color by Kassia St. Clair, which is exactly that for 8 hours' and it was precisely that and it was wonderful and soothing and so interesting.

🥰 MateHub: Legend (MateHub #1) (Marie Reynard) - erotic romance about a wolf shifter porn star who finds a Mate™ in his new human co-star. Tropetastic & hot af, exactly what I wanted from a book with this set up. But my fave thing was the absolutely hilarious porn star names: Richard Knotz, our main MC wolf shifter. Hunter Savage, Max Hardwood, Trick Wilde (coyote shifter, natch). I snorted with laughter every time one came up. [really love a book that just knows what it's trying to do and executes beautifully on that premise]

Thinking abt the Mishima household when Kazuya and Lee were growing up like imagine your father kills your mother then throws you off a cliff and you haul yourself back up and vow to kill him but you're too weak rn and you still live under his roof and are still his son and he trains you ruthlessly and you're thirteen and burning with hatred too big for your barely-teen body and then he adopts a boy close to your age and it's clear what he's doing this boy is only here to threaten your status as heir to the Zaibatsu this boy isn't even given the Mishima family name and your father (and you) call him by his surname because although he learns the fighting style and learns the business he'll never be Heihachi's blood son, and by all accounts you shouldn't hate him it's not his fault he was adopted but you do hate him and he quickly realises what kind of household he lives in now and he grows to hate you too but neither of you hate the other as much as you hate your father and so maybe sometimes you'll smoke together after having bloodied your knuckles from beating each other bruised in training because beneath the rivalry and resentment is someone who gets it, who knows what it's like living on these grounds, who you don't need to keep up false pretences for because the shadow looming over the two of you is the same
