This is no hate towards Skye, but am i the only one who thinks that Marshall should have been the main character in the Mighty Movie instead of her?

Well, I mean, as far as I've seen for a while in the Paw Patrol tags, there are more people who think that too.

I can see why- Marshall is a fan favorite. It was a bit obvious the first movie ever would center on Chase, he's like the Patrol's Second In Command, so LOGIC would say that second movie would be about Marshall, as he's the fans' favorite pup (as far as I've seen from several polls for several years before I was in the fandom, friendly reminder I saw one episode for the very first time just now in January 2024, so yeah, I'm kinda the "oldest newborn" ever in this fandom).

While I can't be sure just why they went for Skye for the second movie FOR REAL, my guess is that it's mainly for two reasons, under the cut because the post got long XD

One would be to please the girls, we know there are a lot of girls watching Paw Patrol (and why not, women too, just like me), and we don't have as many female pups in the show. It's like, Skye in the main team, Everest in the B Team, and then Liberty who took even longer to be added into the story. I'm not counting Sweetie because she's not a member of the Paw Patrol at all, as far as I'm concerned too.

The other reason would be to give this cute message that "Your size does not define who you are or what you can be". "No job is too big, NO PUP IS TOO SMALL" and all that.

Besides the ultimate goal of making more merchandise to make parents wallets cry, the goal of most kids movies is to give some simple but important message, and that's what they went for with this second movie, centering it on Skye for that. She's just perfect for that particular message, as Ryder said, he started with that catchphrase because of her.

And there it is: This kind of plot just would NOT fit with Marshall. He's not a small pup- heck I think he's got the longer legs among them tbh. And honestly? The only moment he was even HAVING A MOMENT was in the beginning at the junkyard fire. Those water bombing donuts were badass, not gonna lie XD But that was it. This movie was SO NOT going to be about him.

Skye was the chosen one for they wanted to tackle a plot about the catchphrase "No job is too big, no pup is too small."

If the second movie would have been a Marshall movie, it would LITERALLY be a very different movie, with a plot that would fit HIM. I know I'm dreaming high here but, considering both movies worked around with some backstory from their respective center characters (Chase and his trauma from when he was abandoned as a literal baby in the big city, then Skye with her trauma about being the runt of the litter and just never getting chosen for adoption), I would say we might expect the same kind of thing on the next movie - whoever's the pup who's going to get the spotlight this time, we'll get to learn a bit about their past too and it'll play a role in the plot for whatever the next message they'll want to send out for the kids.

 » His room is an absolute disaster. You have no idea where his bed actually is. Tbh, it's funny at first. But then it gets annoying because you have no idea where the bed is. 

» He ends up cleaning (more like shoving his stuff to other parts of the room. Or flat out in the hallway.) his room, and you find his bed to be rather comfy. Sure, there’s all kinds of stuff stored in the pillow cases and underneath the sheets but its nice. 

 » His bedsheets are a alot of different patterns, almost stitched together from scraps of fabric from all sorts of places 

 » Regardless, his bed is really nice. His room is rather warm, so you don’t really need alot of blankets. 

 » Most of the time, Mikey sleeps in his shell, or halfway in his shell. He says it's comfier this way, but he only really does it when he sleeps alone. When he’s with you, he typically engulfs himself in a blanket or by your body. He likes to hide for whatever reason. But he’s also pretty warm so it's not like you mind too much

 » He just moves a lot in his sleep.

 » The only kind of blanket/sheets on his bed are the super soft kind too. He hates regular fabric sheets, so anything fleece, or silk is great. 

 » All of his sheets are black. He has a few super fluffy blankets that are purple, but otherwise? Everything is black. Its mainly to hide any small stains. 

 » You have to clean his sheets fairly often regardless. He’ll be working on a project for hours on end, and will forget to wash his hands or other parts of his body before just…crashing. So there’s sometimes oil and stuff on the sheets. 

 » It annoys him but he always forgets to wash himself before going to bed

 » You two are always sharing a blanket when you go to sleep. But when you wake up the next morning, he’s wrapped in a cocoon in all the blankets. And no. he will not give you another one. And no, you cannot cuddle up with him again, either. (He’ll end up rolling over and cuddling up with you in his sleep though. Don’t worry.)

 » This boy is a cuddle bug. He can and will be the big spoon (he’s the little spoon. Don’t say anything though.), and you’ll both be wrapped in the blankets. He’ll be clinging onto you for dear life, and don’t even think about moving cause he’ll wake up and start complaining about not being close enough

 » The only issue? He talks in his sleep. And its typically really stupid stuff too. He also??? Makes jokes in his sleep??? And laughs at them??? 

 » He falls asleep incredibly easily, but he’s the second lightest sleeper in the lair. So any mildly loud noises (microwave going off, phone notification, etc) wakes him up. Thankfully, he goes right back to sleep. And if he can’t he’ll wake you up cause he’ll get bored.

 » If you thought Leo was bad, Raph is a whole different story. You are going to be absolutely engulfed by this man its not even funny. He also wakes up at every tiny noise. So be prepared to wake up and not see him there. He’ll come back after checking out whatever he heard, though. 

 » His bed is super messed up. There’s holes in the mattress, and because he always rips his sheets. So he doesn’t bother putting any on anymore. But the onesie he wears is super soft. Almost like a blanket (which he can’t use those either, cause it’ll rip) 

 » The thing with his bed however, is the plushies. There are so many plushies. And yes, he named all of them. Yes there are twenty. Yes he remembers the names of all of them. Yes, he has elaborate backstories for every single one. And finally, yes. He will cover their eyes if you two kiss. Even if its a light peck on the cheek. 

 » His bed is on the floor. He doesn’t have a frame (he broke his and just hasn’t bought a new one), but regardless, its still nice. 

 » Just like Leo however, you start the night by being wrapped in his arms, and ends the night with him being wrapped in yours. 

 » He also lights incense before going to sleep.  So his room always has a faint smell of incense and smoke. 

April 

 » Like Donnie, this girl crashes hard. Hard asf. 

 » Her bed is pretty average. The right about of pillows and such. The only thing is that she has a ton of decorative pillows, so you aren’t sure which one is an actual sleeping pillow. And which one isn’t. And she buys those things like there’s no tomorrow. 

 » She’s really nice to sleep with though. Sometimes she mumbles. Sometimes she moves. But regardless of the position she always has some sort of limb on you. You’re warm. She likes that. 

 » Her bed is right by the window too, so she leaves the curtains open sometimes when she sleeps. She likes to look at the stars. Mainly so you and her can make up dumb stories about said stars. Her favorite is the constellation of Kicaan. 

 » One of the biggest things, however, is that she reorganizes her room often. Her mother is usually away on business trips, and her father works the night shift. So when she gets bored, she just…rearranges everything? So sleeping with her usually means waking up to a screwdriver or some other tool at your feet.

Just saw someone on pinterest saying "idk is Verlaine french" and actually you know what this is the last straw. So, I'm french, I've studied both of those authors in middle and high school, and it's time to discuss what they were really like, because I see a lot of information on japanese authors going around in the bsd fandoms and the american authors generally don't need to be introduced.

So, first off, to start with the obvious, YES. Verlaine is french. So is Rimbaud. Arthur Rimbaud and Paul Verlaine are both very famous 19th century french poets. Actually, Rimbaud is arguably the most famous french poet ever, and usually the first author you ever study in poetry when you study french literature. Verlaine is, today, mostly known for his association to Rimbaud, although his poems are still read.

Starting off with the less mentally unstable of the two... Paul Verlaine. Which, if the only thing you know about those authors is bsd canon, is probably surprising to you. (But tbh, I have so many questions about WHY they were represented like that in BSD.....) Fair warning, though : the less mentally unstable of the two isn't saying much. Both of them were complete madmen.

Paul Verlaine is this guy :

Ironically, Paul Verlaine is his birth name. He was born in 1844, started to write in 1858 at the age of 14, and died in 1895 at the age of 51. His most known book is his first one, Saturnian Poems, published in 1866, so if we ever get an ability name, it'll probably be that. Saturnian, because at the time, Saturn was considered to be the planet of melancholy, which in the 19th century didn't mean a weird sort of nostalgia, but rather an undiagnosed depression. He's the archetype of the tortured poet - a concept he majorly theorised himself -, basically, and was either appreciated by his contemporaries as a genius poet or depreciated as a mad asshole (most of which is due to his story with Rimbaud).

He got along "well" with his mother, except for the part where he tried to murder her because he was sad the girl he loved married someone else and then died. More seriously, his parents loved him, and his father passed in 1865. His relationship with his mom was both very loving and very violent - as I said, murder attempt, but he lived with her also -, and he was in love with his cousin, Elisa, an orphan who was raised with him. He wanted to marry her but she settled for a rich guy and then died giving birth in 1867. Afterwards, he got very into alcohol and violence. He then finally married Mathilde Mauté, 17, for whom he wrote a few love poems. They had a son a few years later.

He wrote a shit ton of poems, I'm not kidding. He's mainly known for Saturnian Poems, but also a bit famous for his erotic poetry - which i'm not a big fan of,,, -, mainly because he wrote both about men and women.

His literary movement was the Parnassian movement, whose main point is to make art for art, for beauty, and to detach art from any notion of usefulness.

He was, as a whole, a piece of shit. He beat his wife and his son extremely violently, sometimes almost to death. His wife divorced him after four years of marriage, in 1874.

I'll do the next part introducing Rimbaud soon, I guess, and then probably a last one to talk about their relationship.

46,759 words in total! Most of it is one shots so that tracks tbh, though I'm actually pretty impressed with how much that actually is, especially cause it doesn't count how much I've written for WIPs.

4. What are your top 5 fics by kudos? 

#1) Scrapped Scenes, a Wenclair fic, at 1,632 kudos (which is frankly insane, I hadn't realized it got that much)

#2) Crying Wolf, another Wenclair fic, at 759 kudos

#3) And Iphigenia Felt Rage, a Yuezula fic, at 225 kudos

#4) The Future Looks Brighter Together, a Sokkla fic, at 163 kudos

I'm not surprised the two Wenclair fics are on top by such a wide margin, I wrote those when the show had only just come out so the fandom was at its peak. Very glad that many people liked what I wrote though! Since most of the other fandoms I've written for (on ao3 or here) are a lot less active, it was a new experience!

5. Do you respond to comments? Why or why not? 

I usually do, but I do have to admit I've been struggling a bit with it recently 😅. I read them all, and I'm so grateful for them, but especially on fics that I had huge plans for still, and which are in no way close to progressing, I have this feeling like I should have a new chapter to offer when I do answer them. I'm blaming it on my social anxiety 😬

6. What's the fic you wrote with the angstiest ending?

Ooh, that's a hard one cause I definitely tend to go in a more fluffy, feel-good direction. But I'd have to say it's Keep Your Fire On A Leash (Let The Ashes Bring You Peace). It's a June/Azula oneshot, mainly focused on Azula dealing with the pyromania she developed in captivity (as a need to reclaim complete control over at least this aspect of her life). She tries to manage it a little by working in pottery, where continuous, constant temperature control is crucial to porcelain quality, but it's not perfect. It's not angsty per-se, but it's definitely more ambiguously neutral.

7. What's the fic you wrote with the happiest ending? 

Oooh, I'd say it's a toss up between two of my fics:

The first is Not Alone, a TyZula band AU fic about Azula recovering from bottom surgery. I wrote it while I myself was still recovering from bottom surgery, and I wanted to explore a facet of trans characters journeys that isn't often discussed? It's a bit more niche, and I only recently made it open to anyone, not just ao3 users, so it's one of my less popular fics for sure, but it's very hopeful portrayal of a trans experience.

And the second is Yours In Body And Soul, a Sokkla soulmates AU, where soulmates bodyswap at night when either of them has had a bad day, in order to try to cheer them up. I got the idea from a korrasami fic called Paralyzed I read a while back, and changed the mechanics a little bit to make it work. It's definitely a more traditional happy ending, romantic getting together included (up to a point, they are still kids in the timeline so just an excited hug).

8. Do you get hate on fics? 

I don't! Sometimes people disagree on one interpretation of something, but never disrespectful or anything, so I'm pretty happy!

9. Do you write smut? 

I've tried it before in private, got some good feedback. But no, never anything that I'd share.

10. Do you write crossovers? What's the craziest one you've ever written? 

I'm not sure if ATLA/TLOK counts😂. I've had some ideas for crossovers though, and written a few draft snippets, I think it was a TLT/ATLA one, an ATLA/Shang-Chi, and a Naruto/ATLA one that I've actually posted a few snippets from on here if I remember correctly.

That last one was a Sakura reincarnated into Azula idea, to explore some interesting anti-imperialist ideals, because that's actually a blind spot Sakura has as well with Konoha. It's easy for her to fall into the same ideological fallacies as before, especially with the significantly lower usage of child soldiers in the Fire Nation making it seem like the epitome of peace and human rights to her. Like looking at the same problem in a different font, at a slightly different angle, it gives Sakura an opportunity for growth by maybe showing her some of the issues she had been ignoring or missing in Konoha, shaking some of her loyalty.

11. Have you ever had a fic stolen? 

Nope, not as far as I'm aware!

12. Have you ever had a fic translated? 

Also nope, theoretically I could translate it in Dutch, but I'm a lot better at expressing myself in English I think, and almost every Dutch person can read English (especially on ao3), so I don't think it would add much. Maybe one day though!

13. Have you ever co-written a fic before? 

I haven't, though it seems like it'd be very cool, I'd definitely be open to it!

14. What's your all time favorite ship? 

God, don't make me choose 😭😭 I guess it's probably Chasefield? I'm such a sucker for those two it's unreal. Otherwise maybe Yuezula, Maizula or Sokkla? They each have such interesting possible dynamics, in such varying ways.

15. What's a WIP you want to finish, but doubt you ever will? 

Again, that's a tough one cause I'm afraid I have a lot. I still have several half-written chapters of Getting Family Approval In Six Fool-Proof Steps (Cue The Fools, Sokka And Azula), as well as the start of a longer fic that continues on from And Iphigenia Felt Rage that I've fully outlined and would love to write someday but can't be sure I ever will. There's also Indelible Mark which I've been blocked on forever. As for WIPs that haven't even been partially published yet, I've got 11k for a Chasefield fic I've posted a scene or two for on here called Muse on My Mind, that I wish I could finish but I'm not confident I can manage any time soon. I've also got the start and the outline of a TLT griddlehark fic, where I'm absolutely in love with the premise and the twist I'm building it on, but which, again, I've not progressed much with in a good 6 months. There's a few others, but these are the ones I'd really like to finish at some point.

18. Thoughts on writing dialogue in another language for a fic? 

I love reading it, writing it I could do Dutch or Google translate a different language, but much preferably I'd be able to check it with someone who actually speaks the language for accuracy. Best to use some of the more advanced ao3 html uses to make a translation appear when you hover over it though, unless not understanding it is an important part of the reading experience, in which case people can look it up later if they want to.

19. First fandom you wrote for? 

My very first fic was actually a The 100 song fic based on an opera song, which is too embarrassing so I won't share where it is🤐 I was like 17 so it's too embarrassing.

20. Favourite fic you've ever written?

Tbh, it's either Muse on My Mind (the chasefield fic I mentioned that isn't posted anywhere except for 1 or 2 scenes on Tumblr), which is super fun because it's playing with the perspective of a character that just straight up doesn't understand half the plot happening in the background that is hinted at for the reader who does know. Oblivious characters too caught up in their own shit to pay attention are so so so much fun to write, especially when you have fun with it, implying things but never outright confirming it!

Otherwise it's Haunted By Runaway Ghosts. That one is a Sokkla fic that explores their past through flashbacks while Zuko and Katara are both grappling with the discovery of their niece and nephew they had no idea existed (or could exist). Which, not to brag, but from a technical standpoint I really think that one is probably one of the most skilled fics I've written and published, and it was so much fun to write and puzzle it all together; the slow build up and explanations slowly coming together to form the bigger picture, the hidden ties between locations in the show and events in the story and how they fit into each other perfectly - genuinely a joy to write (and if people are interested in reading it please do, imo it's on par with And Iphigenia Felt Rage, if in a pretty different style, definitely something I'd love for more people to enjoy the way I did writing it).

Apologies if you've already answered it. I've been reading your metas today and linked posts and ngl I really love them and I feel like we're in full agreement with everything.

With season 2 of Loki merely 6 weeks away (idk, are you going to watch it? I think I will, regardless of my current feelings about it) what are your thoughts about the upcoming season? What do you expect we'll get in it? Do you have any hopes for it, or do you think it will be more of the same. The current promo does not give me a good feeling tbh. Also do you think Hiddleston could leave the mcu at the end of season 2? Or at least if this could be the last time we see TVA Loki. Sorry for lenghty ask 🙈 my season 2 anxiety is off the charts, I expect it will be more of the same with Sylvie leading the story and Loki following her and I'd love to hear your thoughts about s2

Awww, thank you!!! Season 1 was something I felt so deeply for! All my hopes and dreams were focused on it. And then it shattered me in a way I didn’t know was possible. Now, I see that it took me a full year to cope and decode what I was feeling. The metas I wrote during this time (including the survey) are more like an open diary of how I processed the show and stabilized my mental health. It means a lot to me that now those thoughts may help others, too. 💚

I’ll put the answers under a cut, because there are some triggers included.

what are your thoughts about the upcoming season? What do you expect we'll get in it?

Frankly, I expect the season to focus mainly on Sylvie and her character development. If I put my criticisms aside and try to see what the creators wanted to do with the series, it looks to me like their only goal for Larry was to morph him from a villain to a hero in a way that would be undeniable for the general audience. This was achieved by him watching the video and finally finding someone he cares for. So his arc was completed in season 1. His role now is probably to serve as a guide for her, and maybe to discover that his true power is only achievable through or with her. I don’t count this as “his” arc especially, but more the core of the general admiration Sylvie is supposed to get from everyone in-universe. It’s a part of being a Mary sue. As is excelling at everything, even stuff that is opposite to your characteristics and you have no former knowledge on that would make it seem believable you’d excel. Like this, you know?

I‘m quite certain of this because Eric Martin is a huge fan of Sylvie and the ship. If you want to confirm I suggest looking at his Twitter. His tweets imply he intends to stay true to Waldron‘s and Harron‘s original ideas. This was confirmed by some people working on the set of season 2. I made the effort to find the original post, and it turned out that two people contributed to the post I experienced as thoughtful and reliable on Reddit. I personally believe those leaks.

I think it will be more of the same. Sorry, I wish I could tell you something more to your taste. I absolutely share this feeling, and so do others.

Also do you think Hiddleston could leave the mcu at the end of season 2?

This article claims that Tom was supposed to leave the MCU at the end of season 1. Allegedly, season 1 was supposed to have 12 episodes and only was cut short because of Corona. This would mean that the original end of season 1 would be now the end of season 2. Does this mean he will leave? I can’t say. Disney‘s stock is progressively decreasing. Social media opinions on the MCU seem to grow more and more negative and depreciating. Perhaps Iger and Feige feel like Tom is one of the last strong pillars and try to keep him. At this point, I wouldn’t put it past them to try to keep the MCU afloat with Tom’s personal fandom. I don’t think that will work since Google stats show that his popularity decreased after season 1 to a point where it is now below the level it was after endgame. But they might attempt it.

Or at least if this could be the last time we see TVA Loki.

Even if he leaves I assume cameos are always a possibility, especially now that the studios are utilizing AI. But Loki? I‘m heartbroken, but I am very sure we have seen the last of him in TDW (and Ao3). May his reign bring him all the joy he deserves.

So last but not least:

idk, are you going to watch it?

I honestly don’t know. I certainly won’t pay for it. The last time I always watched the episodes was the day they came out so I could write my thoughts down here. But ngl, I’m tired of the fighting, the anon hate, and the feeling that opinions online are getting more important than the love for Loki. Right now, I’m trying to focus more on my fanfics than on the canon. Season 1 made me unable to continue my fics for almost a year. I don’t want to repeat that with season 2.

I still think that the show has done great harm to the fandom, to (some) people with poor mental health who needed Loki as a focus point, (some) gender-fluid or non-binary people who got exposed to sexism because of it, and possibly Tom‘s reputation (based on the google trends Infos). But for season 2 we know what to expect. We know it’s not Loki but Larry who will appear. And in this case, I think it might be best to leave the season to those it was made for, so they can enjoy it and keep as far away from it as possible.

If you want to watch it and still want to give Disney some negative feedback, I recommend watching every episode more than 7 days after it aired. Afaik Disney only counts views in the first week as real interest. Alternatively, 🏴‍☠️.

Tbh I'm probably just gonna post all my fandom stuff on this blog instead of limiting myself to having to post on separate blogs, which means I may or may not change my username, but anyways-

Getting back to the point, I can't believe I'm actually going to make a post defending people for liking Valentino, of all people, and also---apparently---Stanakins and anti-Jedi people, but here I am and here I go!

JUST LET PEOPLE LIKE VILLAINS, FOR FUCK'S SAKE!!!

I just got on TikTok- (which, yeah, always hosts the most rancid discourse, so I'm not exactly surprised) -to see that someone made a video basically saying- "if you like Valentino at all and don't just hate him, then you're bad/crazy/a horrible person/etc." -and like...y'all have got to get past this whole- "liking this fictional thing = excusing it irl" -because it's really fucking weird and it can lead to some very bad places.

This actually ties into two of my Star Wars posts, the one where I explain why I call out most anti-Jedi arguments as antisemitic and the one where I explain why you don't have to justify a villains actions to like them- (I can't find that post, it's too far back on my blog 😭).

For the first one, the overall point of it was that I'm not saying that people who hate the Jedi are horrible people, or that liking someone like Anakin or Dooku or Palpatine makes you a terrible person, but that, firstly, yeah I'm gonna defend the Jedi and get passionate about it when someone comes onto my blog to argue with me about how "they were the REAL bad guys" but also---and what actually pertains to this post---that people are allowed to hate the Jedi and love the villains, so long as they're not perpetuating harmful bigoted rhetoric.

People want to hate the Jedi? People think they were arrogant and should've let people get married? People think they were emotionally stunted and "didn't let people love?"

Fine, whatever, if those ideas make you enjoy Star Wars more, then believe whatever you want!

People say that the Jedi- (who again, are based on Jewish and Buddhist culture) -"deserved their genocide?" People say that they "kidnapped kids?" People say that they "needed to be wiped out by Anakin because they had lost their way" and other such things that are literally taken verbatim from antisemitism 101?

That's where I take issue, because then you're just perpetuating bigoted beliefs about a culture based on the culture those beliefs are literally used against, only it's acceptable because it's popular to do so.

In that post I used the example of the difference between shipping a problematic ship, calling a fictional serial killer "babygirl," and writing about dark topics vs. the "angry black man" stereotype and the "cheating bisexual" stereotype. Something that doesn't cause harm vs. something that does cause harm.

For the second, my point was mainly that people are just allowed to like villains and they shouldn't be judged for that, and the characters shouldn't be changed- (whether in the actual media or in fandom) -to make them "actually a good person" so that fandom purists find it "acceptable" for people to like them.

People don't have to "justify" liking a villain or only like the good palatable characters, and it's ridiculous to expect them to do so.

If someone likes Anakin? Likes Dooku? Maul? Palpatine? Tarkin? Thrawn?

Cool! Great! I'm glad they've found characters that they enjoy and find interesting, that's part of what makes being apart of fandom so fun! And they don't have to justify those characters' actions, just to be "allowed" to like them.

The Jedi don't have to be "the REAL bad guys," the Rebels and Republic don't have to be "just as bad," the Empire doesn't have to be good...people are, in fact, just allowed to like the bad guys and that doesn't make them terrible people.

Is Valentino an abuser? A manipulative, toxic, asshole? A literal fucking pimp that treats his contractees like shit and takes advantage of them? Is he a heinous person and nothing short of a villain?

Absolutely!

But people are allowed to like his character design, or find his character interesting, or enjoy how he interacts with the other Vees, or whatever people find enjoyable about his character---because liking a fictional character does not equate to excusing their actions.

By all means, if people start saying that Valentino is "a good person actually" or start victim blaming Angel Dust, tear em apart! Have at it!

But, until then, y'all just have to accept that not everyone is going to have the same opinions as you on characters or have "totally pure fandom beliefs." Because perpetuating that sort of purity culture around fandom is how we get people justify villains and victim blaming, because y'all won't just leave people be about liking the bad guys.

Just get over yourselves and don't make me have to explain this shit again, for fuck's sake.

I thought it'd be a dirty crack-fic one-shot, but now it's turning into an actual JaySlade getting together story, featuring some batfam feels, too. Also, Slade ambushes Jason on a rooftop and turns him into a hot mess, so that's pretty great too.

What’s your writing weaknesses? finishing WIPs. Though I've already decided in advance that this next year is about finishing things. I won't let myself get distracted by prompt events or BINGO cards. I'll be all about adding more to the series I've started (hopefully finishing a couple), finishing longfics, and also working on bigger ideas that I've let fall to the wayside.

Thoughts on writing dialogue in another language for a fic? I think it's fine if it's done well and respectfully. And it is useful in situations where you want the reader to be able to translate something if they want, but you still don't want the POV Character to know what's being said.

ofc the lees of the group are definitely nene and tsukasa (no i am not biased. you can’t tell me that these two aren’t ganged on the most. and for completely different reasons) meaning the lers r rui and emu

for nene, ofc when she’s being a grouch or just.. needs to smile, the three will be allll over her. honestly, she’s super ticklish so it’s always works for them so why stop? they like to do this when she’s nervous too cuz it keeps her distracted and clears her mind a little, you know?

as for tsukasa, it’s just.. for fun. silly, i know. it’s just.. seeing his smile and laugh so freely is such a contrast to his prideful, boasting laugh. YOU GET WHAT I MEAN??? like his laughter is contagious, but what i mean is that whoever can see him truly smile wants to smile too!

emu lovessss being the lee obviously but she loves being a ler too!!! like, she still gets tickled a lot. don’t get me wrong. tickles r super duper common between these four and it’s usually emu who initiates it. anyways, what i’m getting at is that she, as anyone who’s ever seen her story, LOVES making people smile. she’d be the sweetest most playful ler out there and you cannot tell me otherwise. like i mean, complimenting you so many times that you want to explode out of embarrassment (even tsukasa sometimes)

rui is usually the one who tickles nene tbh but ofc he tickles the other too! though, it took a bit getting there because while he may not seem like it, he does get nervous about tickling someone. though, that’s mainly because he’s afraid they’ll see him as weird. anyways, he’s often the lee, yeah, but most of the times, he would use situations to his advantage to avoid that (basically offering the ler his help) it’s not that he doesn’t want to be tickled, it’s more so that he prefers to be on the giving side. well, besides that, once emu started to tickle them (without hesitation, might i add) his courage pretty much built up instantly and he joined in. he’s just got those tickles that make you feel floaty and safe, so he often tickles his members especially when their feeling down

now rq let’s talk ab reversing roles: basically nene and tsukasa as lers and rui and emu as lees!!!! isn’t that exciting?? so picture nene as the vengeance ler. you know how nene gets tickled a LOT within the group, well she definitely has to get payback.. she was a bit shy about it at first, but after getting a bit more comfortable with the group, don’t expect to tickle her without getting it back tenfold! then, tsukasa, well he can be a bit like nene sometimes but it’s like, you know those moments where you can practically feel his big brother energy? this with tickling. he’s a bit like kaito actually in this aspect, where he will use tickling to make you smile, much like emu and rui actyally (and nene too tho she wouldn’t admit it).

then emu would be the best lee ever because she’s so encouraging and she lets you know she’s enjoying it and honestly, it just boosts the other threes ego as lers. she’s so sweet and bubbly when she’s being tickled which makes the group just want to tickle her more. she thinks it’s fun and so do they! then for rui, it’s a bit tougher to tickle him. like i said, it’s not because he doesn’t want to be tickled, but mainly because he avoids it. he pretends he doesn’t like it and that it would be a much better idea to tickle the others, but it’s just an act. still, his giggles r breathy and cute and so loveable in his own way.

ALRIGHT SO the headcanons above were mostly for setting. some others, regarding them as a whole: they tickle eachother a lot. it’s crazy, like they’ve even added it as a scene in one of their shows before. (it wasn’t anything big, obviously, just like a little squeeze to the side)

it’s like one of their ways to bond with one another. it’s like, sometimes actions feel better than communication, not feeling the stress of having to find the words to say. so they hug each other and tickle each other to do just that. it’s just another level of closeness for them.

i think that they could also occasionally have after-show tickle fights. obviously, it’s not planned, but sometimes it just happens you know? once, after the show was over and everyone in the audience was leaving, emu poked tsukasa on the side and made tsukasa jolt. of course, emu wasn’t done there and she pounced and asked for the other two to help. rui joined, with a somewhat eager smile on his face, while nene muttered something about them being childish. ofc after a few moments, nene couldn’t help but join either and since then, all emu has to do is choose one of them to wreck for the day and soon everyone’s joining in

at first, they reserved the tickling only for at the wonder stage and when no one’s there. it’s not much different, but recently they’ve had tickle fights and the like in the sekai as well! they didn’t do it, mostly out of respect for the virtual singers, but once they realized that they really didn’t care and even wanted to join in on occasion, they’re comfortable just randomly attacking someone with tickles out of nowhere.

i think they’ve incorporated tickling into shows at points. of course, it’s nothing too intense, but sometimes they’ll have the characters poke each others in the side and stuff then make their squeal like SUPER dramatic (tsukasa doesn’t have to worry about this), because loud squealing and acting shock tends to make little kids laugh and whatnot YKKKK

also tsukasa and emu r feather ticklish, light touches make them go crazy. rougher tickles tend to work better on rui and nene, she laughs about the same no matter what kind of tickling she receives. (they know this from experience)

I was curious if you still have hope for Portwell? I saw that some portwells still have hope. I personally lost all hope mainly bc r*na is so popular and I don't think that Tim won't make them endgame... It's sad that, nowadays, many ships happen bc of fanservice... You don't even have to look from a storytelling perspective to see where things are going, you just have to check what the fandom says and that's prob gonna happen... One thing that I don't get tho... If Tim really wanted for r*na to be canon since ep 1x5, why did he spend all s2 to make us not ship them? In the second half they didn't have any interactions. Gina was still annoyed with him in ep 2x11. Why didn't Tim plant some seeds for them in the second half of s2? Why is Gina most of the time the one who does sth in that relationship and when Ricky does sth, it's bc Gina asked? And the only time when he has initiative they ruin that (taking his role seriously for her (ep 3x4) and later they reveal that he didn't even read the whole script on the opening night day). I personally could never ship them. I saw potential in s1 but after that they were ruined. S3 just tried to hide the s2 mess under the carpet instead of cleaning it (Ricky still does the bare minimum for Gina and he wasn't held accountable for how he hurt her in s2, he should've apologised!!!). Idk but Gina deserves so much better... They'll prob make Ricky the best bf to her in the next seasons, but that won't change the way they got together (with Gina putting in most of the effort)... That means she is ok with the bare minimum as long as she is with Ricky which is really sad... She deserves so much more... Portwell deserved so much more... s2 Portwell would've def survived that summer... I hate fan service for ruining them...

I’m shocked to hear anyone still has hope for canon Portwell, ngl. I do not and can’t imagine ever having any ever again tbh. They not only effed them up pretty bad but the writers have lost me entirely. At this point I’d dread seeing what this team would do with them if they tried again.

To answer the rest of this ask, I will die on the hill that Gicky was not actually the plan or endgame or any of this nonsense backtracking Tim’s been doing. I can believe that when he put them together in season one it ended up intriguing him more than he had thought, but considering what they did with season two clearly it wasn’t enough for him to switch up the plan at that point to put them together or set up something in the future - quite the opposite soooooo tell me again how this was always the plan? Sure, Jan.

It’s so obvious to anyone paying the tiniest bit of attention that Olivia left, so they shifted everything to give Ricky another love interest that they thought could compete in any way with Rini and lose the least amount of viewers upon her departure. Gina was the only real option. They didn’t even do it WELL cause they cared more about doing it as quickly as possible.

I admit that during season three I don’t know if I would have claimed it was fan service, but after seeing that Tim had a version of that final scene where he jumped on that entirely unfounded and random Gicky theory about the chocolates, unfortunately, I have to agree with you.

I will never not be disappointed that this show that brought me such joy, was written so well, didn’t do all the garbage you would expect from this kind of show, and boasted about being proud that they were telling stories of good people being good to each other, has turned into such trash.

S2 Portwell will forever be one of my favorite ships, winning me over completely (as an anti and Gicky fan going into that season) because of how well they wrote it . Alas, another casualty of outside factors switching up the plan and terrible choices being made by those in charge as a result.

The Summer of Portwell was one for the books, but now, for that HEA fanfiction is where it’s at, friends!

*sigh* As someone who mainly watches the Good Doctor… for reasons… despite its many, many flaws. At least it’s the last season and soon I will be free. a) I was elated to see Kayla Cromer in something. I even like Charlie, I think some of her writing fucking sucks. Specifically, she’s very similar to Shaun in many respects, both are very opinionated and very outspoken and have a lot of issues reading social cues from others. (I have thought onthe general writing of autistic characters but that’s a different and more complex point and others have likely made it) anyway. Their similarities are part of the reason they clash so severely, while some of their differences -Charlie’s needs more stimuli and externalizes her thoughts, I think and Shaun needs far less stimuli and internalizes a lot. That and imo Shaun has a lot of internalized ableism and trauma from working through his residency in abysmal conditions that he’s taking out on her. (Plz someone make this man go to therapy) She’s been there like two weeks. She needs consistent rules and boundaries set for her. She needs to be have a time to ask all of her questions and review her progress in a non-judgmental space. However she does need to learn better workplace etiquette and appropriate workplace conversation, I’m not arguing she’s not flawed by any means. But she deserves some grace -we’ll get more to that. Shaun changed tactics and rules every other day and gets mad at her for nothing. Tbh. He maybe shouldn’t be her teacher and the hospital shouldn’t force that, or needs to remind him to settle on boundaries and give it a week to see if she progresses in following those rules. But again, s/x accommodation is not forcing two disabled people with conflicting needs to work with each other if not absolutely necessary.

Now what more concerns me about her is that the fandom… fucking sucks in their rxn to her from what I’ve seen. This is what I mean by her deserving some grace, Bc in the show admittedly a lot of characters are giving it to her. She’s like what? 21? Probably never worked before, a med student. I’d guess has AuDHD and probably other disabilities and also. imho she is written to challenge Shaun, so that he has to learn more flexibility and learn how to be a better teacher -and therefore a better father. The fact that she’s written very similarly to Shaun, but also oppositional to him and still needs to learn a lot that he has come a long way on mean people are… not reacting well to this head strong ND young woman and I do think it’s because of the intersection of her gender and disabilities. Is that entirely the writers fault? Admittedly no. But I think it could have been executed better.

b) Asher wasn’t a perfect character but he kinda was my favorite one on this show. So uh. Killing him -very probably, I’d love to be wrong- in the middle of the last season. Was… why? Like. Killing the only gay and Jewish character… I think it’s a bit much for this show. I don’t think anyone needed to die this season. Certainly I’m not entirely opposed to exploring that, but there’s five episodes left. And this….. it’s not the show for it Imo. This show has been about people succeeding despite the odds and so why is he the exception. Idk. Maybe I’m wrong and he will live, I hope so, so take that one with a grain of salt. He looked really dead, there’s was a lot of blood, I think the rabbi was saying the Jewish prayer for the dead at the end. So my hopes are… very low.

Anyway. I’m going to go watch “Everything’s Gonna Be Okay”. Which features far more interesting exploitation of autism and queerness that this show desperately wants to have but simply isn’t capable of.

4. Total number of words you wrote this year That's hard to find tbh....I didn't end up posting a lot of fics, so i dont only have to just check my statistics on ao3, but all of my possible fics ive written this year in my wip docs as well. the total i got was 58,171 words (~35k of it being WIPs and not posted)! so definitely not as much as i wrote last year which was (i think over 100k), and also not including all of my notes ive written. i did not do a lot of writing this year, so hopefully next year i'll wrap up all of my big fics and post them all <3

7. longest completed fic you wrote this year Again, i did not write a lot this year, much less finish them lmao. if you were to ask about uncompleted fics, we would have a different story--but alas, the longest completed one was Once More, With Needles, sitting at 4,414 words!

11. fandom you enjoyed writing for the most this year hm....obey me, I suppose. its hard to say really, but enjoyment from writing specifically, i'd have to give it to obey me. what can i say, the cast is just really fun to write (even when levi is impossible to write, like what the hell man i have rewritten your part in my undead fic like 3 separate times and am continuing fixing it, like what the hell man i trusted you and then you dont behave for me). like this year specifically i realized how much i love each and every character--those like lucifer reminded me as to why i love the game and the characters, and people like mephisto and raphael randomly won a spot in my heart. theyre all just so so fun to write <333

12. favorite character to write about this year lucifer!!! even though i only have like, one fic that features him thats out and finished lmao; hes such an interesting and complex character, yet is one whose mind i can easily slip into when i need to write when its his pov. idk, sometimes i find myself struggling to write characters like levi or even asmo sometimes--mainly from my own failures to pay attention to their canon interpretations and making them not out-of-character--but lucifer is surprisingly one i can always rely on to be easy and fun to write!! he is angst galore and so emotionally constipated, hes great <3

17. fics you’ll continue next year Heart Melts for sure!! i originally wanted ch3 to be out before the new year, but ive been drafting and redrafting all of my future chapters (i am trying my best to make it a psychological horror in order to match the tag that i put on the fic, but idk if its going to live up to the hype that people have for this fic ^^;;) so i sadly didnt get time to finish it. maybe by the end of January ill have it out--heres to hoping its done by then! and maybe i might continue Dirty? I didn't even update it this year lol--its def one i dont wanna leave discontinued, as i have all of the chapters planned out, but i just have many other projects that i wanna focus on and also i really wanna rewrite it, so ive been debating doing that first or just to finish then rewrite it. in a perfect world, i'll update that one too lol

22. events you participated in this year i didnt participate in any events this year! i tend not to do events tbh, theyre not really my style, as i dont do well with due dates unless i have months in advance lol;; usually i might do one, maybe two, events a year, but those are usually simple gift exchanges or something. nothing caught my eye this year, and ones that did i just didnt have the time to do, sadly. but! i do plan on doing the sonic big bang next year, which will be my first ever "bigger" event ive been in! exciting, but also really nervewracking as ive never posted sonic content and idk how well i'll do staying on schedule. but its still something i really wanna do (have a great fic planned for it!) so i still wanna give it a shot and do my best on it lol

24. favorite fic you read this year from this year is really hard to say--i think all of my favorite fics were found last year lmao so its a struggle to think of one. @heleentje's BOTW fic Moonlight has been a fantastic read (even though i havent finished it yet;;; i promise will soon!!) and just hits all of the right notes for me!! The batman fic Performance Piece is also definitely up there for me, as it captures so well what i want in my own writing when it comes to writing characters, especially when it comes to inner-dialogue (i might just go back and reread that one again lmao)

Hey Sam, was wondering if you've seen any info or statistics regarding Autism / ADHD in fandom? There's nothing in Wikipedia and not sure where to look. Thanky Muchly!

I don't think that information exists, tbh, and if it does I don’t know if it’s reliable. Anecdotally I know that most of us believe neurodiversity is much, much more prevalent in fandom than in non-fandom populations, and I think it’s true, but realistically it’s also mainly people looking at their own fannish social circles.

TLDR below but basically unless you have limitless funding and staff it's nearly impossible to even gather the information accurately -- it may be out there but I’d be skeptical. The TLDR is just because I like talking about this stuff :D

There are a number of problems with trying to provide actual numerical stats on this. Start with fandom -- what are we identifying as fandom, and how are we identifying participation in it? Does sports count? It's undoubtedly fandom. How do you measure who's "in" fandom or not? I follow AS Roma, an Italian soccer club, but I don't know the chants, don't own merch, and don't participate in discussion or attend games. I do read fanfic and listen to podcasts about it. Am I part of fandom? (I mean, yes, but not because of AS Roma, probably.)

Does someone who religiously watches a TV show but ONLY watches it, and isn't online about it, count? What if they aren't online but talk it over with a dedicated group of viewers at their place of work? What if they ARE online about it but have some super rancid takes about it that indicate it's obvious they don't understand what's going on? When we say fandom do we really mean people who write and read fanfic? What about people who don't do that but do meta, or gifmaking, or art? Are we taking everyone's word for it when they say they're in fandom, or looking at each person's online behavior against a rubric?

So, you have a problem just identifying who is and is not in the culture you want to study. You also have a problem in that you have to rely on those people self-reporting reliably, and determine whether you're going to count people who don't have an official diagnosis, or who refuse to provide the data. (I would possibly refuse. Past experience with people outside of fandom trying to study it statistically has not been positive -- oldies, who here remembers those two dudes who thought slash was the female equivalent of trans fetish porn for men? -- while people who are of fandom trying to study it sometimes get pushback because it’s their community and they’re a bit close to the matter.)

Okay, so approach the problem from the reverse -- look at a pool of people with ADHD and Autism (how do you get that pool? Well, it's probably at least EASIER than identifying fandom, you might have access to a clinic or social services records of some kind) and pick out the people who are fans among them. But you can't really do this, either, because what you're doing then is identifying how many neurodivergent people are in fandom, not how many fans are neurodivergent. Your pool necessarily does not include any neurotypicals. So you can say X percent of neurodivergents are into fandom, but that doesn't answer the question of whether fandom has a higher degree of neurodiversity than non-fandom. (You could possibly compare percentages in neurodivergent populations versus neurotypical, although the issue of "what is a fandom? We just don't know" still stands.)

So yeah. I've never seen numbers and would not necessarily trust them if I did. At the least I'd want to read an extensive methodology.

It seems very self-evident that fandom would be a place neurodiverse people congregate, because of tendencies to hyperfixation, and also because fandom (believe it or not) is generally an extremely accepting space, so people who have experienced a lot of social rejection are less likely to experience it in fandom. Note: LESS likely, not UNlikely, I know fandom has its issues. But fandom's inherent tendency towards acceptance of the weird is why neurodivergent and queer people tend to find their way to it. Or so the theory goes. How do you gather data on that? Download all of tumblr and do keyword-scan analysis? Man, I'd be intrigued by who would fund that, actually, and what the results would be. If there are any billionaires out there who are interested, hmu, I’ll project manage the shit out of it for decent pay and a strong benefits package.

In any case, the probable-best method of gathering this info is a voluntary survey where you accept peoples' self-identification (of both "being fannish" and "being neurodiverse"), which is fine, but not ideal, and you're still dealing with the issue of it being self-selecting.

Uh.

So.

As a fan, I think the answer is "this is probably true but we have no good data."

As a data scientist, the answer is *long, mournful scream* *interested look* *return to screaming*

nope! i mainly prefer playing around with canon/canon-adjacent stuff tbh, i've got a couple of unfinished aus hanging around that will probably never see the light of day, but no crossovers that i can think of

not as far as i'm aware. though to be fair, i don't venture onto fic websites other than ao3 so i'll never know for certain. i doubt it though

again, not as far as i know! i'd probably be chill with it though if anyone wanted to translate a fic of mine, provided they asked beforehand and it was one i was comfortable with being translated :)

nope! the closest i've got is participating in an event run by a discord server i used to be mildly active in and am technically still part of, which was a lot of fun :D

i don't know if i really have an "all-time" favourite as such, but i've written a fair bit for liv and helen from the 8das, and really love their dynamic. i'm also a big fan of leela/romana, but for whatever reason i've never been quite able to make writing them work :/

15. What’s a WIP you want to finish but probably won’t?

there's a fair few 😅 the main one I can think of atm is the eldritch helen fic i vaguely remember being asked about on here a couple of years back, it's a concept that i still have a lot of interest in and love for, but i've never quite been able to get the fic itself to work and i fear it may be doomed to the wip pit for eternity :((

i've also got quite a few unfinished pieces of varying lengths with the war-veklin-albert tardis team from "the war doctor begins" hanging around my drive that i'd a) love to finish and b) probably won't; their dynamic and their whole deal as a team whose story takes place mostly off-screen and which we only see the ending of fascinates me. maybe one day i'll manage to do something with it

description :) this is the one thing i am ever consistently happy with in my writing (i am my own harshest critic <3), and i've got a couple of nice comments about it before. so!

17. What are your writing weaknesses?

dialogue - even with characters i know well and whose voices i have clear in my head, i do find it difficult to make dialogue feel really authentic, and it's definitely something i tend to overly fixate on when i'm writing because i'm so conscious of wanting to get it right

18. Thoughts on writing dialogue in another language in fic?

i'm totally fine with it! as long as it has a reason for being in the story, and isn't like. getting in the way of readers understanding what's going on, i don't see the problem.

it's probably a tie between The Security Guard, The Scholar, And The Giant Stone Cube (a fic i wrote back in 2021 based on this post about rory and helen theoretically being able to meet each other at the national museum during the pandorica arc, which i loved writing and am still really happy with nearly 3 years later), and mae cuddio dagrau yn fy ngwaed (a bit of a weirder/darker dreamscape-type story; it took a lot of puzzling things out to piece all the different parts together to make something that was cohesive but still felt strange or off in the way dreams do, but i was really pleased with the end result!)
