shuffling back onto my soap box with more mefau+talulah observations. hear me out on this one:

faust is the daughter and mephisto is the pawn.

(please note this statement does not coincide with how much she values each of them but more how each of them came to be influenced and used by talulah and later kashchey. she still desperately wanted them to be her family, and she wanted them to live.)

if we examine how faust and mephisto were each influenced by talulah as essentially their primary guardian and confidant after they joined reunion, we can see clear parallels in what parts of her get through to them and what parts of her as a person they end up understanding, and each of those correspond to a part of how kashchey raised talulah in turn.

kashchey set talulah up as his heir and thus instilled in her values and beliefs with his words and lessons, in whiich even her rejection of them characterised her. but he also used her as his pawn to his own ends by having her go and do his dirty work sending her on assassination missions, and later using reunion to attempt to spark a war for the benefit of ursus.

FIRST CASE. FAUST.

faust and talulah are fundamentally similar people in terms of heart; the kind who stand up for others, the kind who want to punish people for doing wrong, the kind who value and communicate what they mean through words and try to understand others in turn, the kind that carry far too many expectations and burdens and do not confide in anyone until it is tooo late.

they both willingly infected themselves, willingly submitting themselves to what they perceive as a "rotten life" to escape what came before, to be able to be like and fight for those near them who are suffering, but who they ultimately cannot help they way they want to and know how to.

therefore, faust is someone talulah both as the fighter and the black snake could easily impress her values upon with words.

the black snake even dismisses the both of them similarly...

SECOND CASE. MEPHISTO.

...while mephisto resembles her most in her lack of a concrete sense of self, not being able to be fostered before cruelty got their hands on them. built, then, upon bluster in a role not meant for them. both feel the immediate need to nullify temporary pain and suffering despite the fact it will harm, if not ruin them and everyone around them in the long term.

he has little interest in understanding morals or ideals or other people. he only wants to appease the people he trusts, and therefore gain value in obedience, being (loved?) valued in the only way he understands how. mephisto is the exact kind of person kashchey told talulah she will never get through to with her ideals alone, and she fails to do so even after alina warns her.

he is without self-esteem, with emotions and thoughts he does not properly dissect and scrutinise from his habit of running from pain and discomfort, and craves her attention, direction. he takes words and commands and executes them as he sees fit and appropriate, which is often cruelly, because he only understands appeasement and violence. he is the exact kind of person who would desperately want to be used by someone like her.

howdy! i downloaded the aster assistant a while ago and they functioned fantastically and i love them btw, but recently (just now actually) i noticed an issue i hadnt run into before.

i dont know if this is due to an ssp update and is thusly out of your control; but when vega or rigel manifest in their "pop-up" form, they are locked reeeeeaally low below the others' body. i can move the dialogue window all i want, but the "pop-up" stays down. similarly, if i grab the "pop-up", it takes their body up along with them.

its very strange and i didnt use to have this issue before, and im wondering if its just a setting in ssp that i need to switch on or off that you're aware of.

ahh, yeah I think it may have been an update, there was something related to window positions. but things do just go off the rails sometimes. I probably will add a mode to adjust the side panel's position manually

them being fixed together is intentional on my part, just not to "lose" the panel if Aster's main body is dragged

for now you can enable developer options in SSP Preferences, press Ctrl+S on him*, and in the input window enter "\![reset,sticky-window]" to unlock em. once you're done adjusting just input "\![set,sticky-window,1,0]" to reenable it

(*That will open Script Input. You can also open it through Right Clicking on him and select Development Interface in Utilities submenu, it will have the button)

I got this certification while serving in AmeriCorps last year! :) I highly recommend it, the paper is only good for 3 years but the skills will be useful forever.

You'll learn about early crisis intervention: how to recognize when someone isn't doing well emotionally and how to intervene if someone is struggling. It's not the same as crisis intervention you'd get from a suicide hotline or emergency room; think like a step below that. It's more comparable to, well, physical first aid, where you're learning CPR and how to bandage minor cuts. But you'll also learn how to diagnose problems above your pay grade and how to refer people to resources that can actually help them.

If you love someone with a mental illness/substance abuse challenges and have ever found yourself saying things like "I want to reach out and help but I don't know what to say/am worried I'll make things worse" this course literally teaches you how to do it. For you in particular I cannot recommend this certification enough.

It does cost money, but like I said I got mine through my job. If you work in public health, health care, emergency medical services, or anything like that, maybe talk to your employer, they might pay for you!

I cannot explain how often I think about this part of the Simon’s Quest story. Ough I wanna try to explain every tiny line of this in detail, but I can’t think of words rn aaa, so I’m gonna dump random disjointed thoughts in the tags for now.

I’m putting the links to the English translations of the first two games’ Japanese manuals because their stories are so much cooler than what the western releases got. The second I get everything I can or have thought about this guy together I’m doing in depth story and character analysis for some silly whip man NES games tho—

So you don't get trans discourse jumpscared because this gets more discoursey than the sorts of posts I usually reblog here

Whenever I see a questionable take about trans discourse from a blog that has some room for benefit of the doubt, I just go into their blog and look at the amount of posts discussing transmisogyny vs transandrophobia. Ideally, there should be at least a few posts discussing transmisogyny that actually center the struggles of those primarily affected by it (trans femmes). If there is anything less than that, especially in comparison to a long list of posts centering the struggles of trans mascs, it's an instant block.

I am a trans man. I am not saying that giving a shit about our struggles is a bad thing. It directly benefits me when people give a shit about our struggles. I'm just saying it's a pretty bad look to me when someone with an already questionable take seems to only care about our struggles and not the struggles of trans femmes (enough to actively reblog posts about it that is).
