#OnThisDay in 1829, William Buckland coined the term “coprolites” (a.k.a. fossilized poop)
One of the greatest fossil hunters Mary Anning (who, among other fossils, found the first complete skeleton of a Plesiosaurus) provided him with fossilized poop she found in Lyme Regis, England. Some of them had fish bones, scales, and other bones inside.
The word coprolite means “dung stone” and Buckland liked these fossils so much he had a table made with inlaid coprolites

Hi all,
Welcome to the last part of my 2024 altar tour! 4/4
What a year it has been! I have learned so much and made so many new friends! My altar has always been a reflection of my psyche, seeing it’s beauty reminds me of the beauty that exists within me. :)
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
So this is my final little work space where I do pendulum magick and tarot readings. There is a devotional mug to Lord Lucifer which I use for our morning coffee chats. There is also Lucifer’s devotional dragon statue, as well as the dual scrying mirror for him and Faviel.
There is a normal mirror and a statue of a pharaoh’s tomb. The board which the flowers and offerings are placed on dawns Faviel’s sigil and candle. To Faviel I have offered a palm stone, flowers, an acorn, smoky quartz, some black earrings, and some grubs.
Beside him is my pendulum in a selenite charging bowl along with my pendulum mat.
The black and white image you see was a piece of art I made for Archangel Jophiel after he gifted me a vision a year or so ago. I use it whenever I’m reaching out to him.
Tumblr media
Beneath my altar is some space for storage where I keep my larger cauldron, mortar and pestle, larger candles, etc. There is also my stand where I keep my broom, fire poker, and shovel. My witch broom is wrapped in a protective seal. I use it to sweep ash from my prayer mat.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
And finally, here are a few of the books I have in my collection that have greatly greatly aided me in my craft. Remember to do your research my dears!
The Arbatel of Magick- First English edition 1633, new edition 2013, edited by Earl Marwick
Healing with Form, Energy, and Light- Tenzin Wangyal Rinpoche
Gods and Goddesses- Hallam, Elizabeth
The Lesser Key of Solomon- S.L MacGregor Mathers and Aleister Crowley
The Dictionary of Alchemy- Diana Fernando
The Art of Angels- Howard Loxton
Backland’s Book of Spirit Communications- Raymond Buckland
Transcendental Magick- Éliphas Lévi
The Greater Key of Solomon- S.L MacGregor Mathers
A History of God- Karen Armstrong
A Dictionary of Angels, Including Fallen Angels- Gustav Davidson
Making Talismans- Nick Farrell
The Sixth and Seventh Books of Moses- Johann Scheibel
The Egyptian Book of the Dead
The Rise and Fall of the Nephilim- Scott Alan Roberts
Buckland’s Complete Book of Witchcraft- Raymond Buckland
Candle Burning Rituals- Raymond Buckland
The Complete Book of Black Magick and Witchcraft
Green Witchcraft, Folk Magick, Fairy Lore & Herb Craft- Ann Moura
The Book of Forbidden Knowledge, Black Magick, Superstition, Charms and Divination- First Edition 1910s Johnson Smith & co. New Edition 2016 edited by Earl Marwick
Three Books of Occult Philosophy- Henry Cornelius Agrippa
and of course, The Holy Bible- New Living Translation.
I have many other books in my collection on tarot and astrology in my living room, but these are the books that have had the greatest impact on my craft. Here are a few of those other ones:
Tumblr media
Love Potions- Tatania Hardie
The Book of Destinies- Jane Struthers
The Crystal Bible 2- Judy Hall
The Tarot Bible- Sarah Barlett
The Wicca Bible- Ann Marie Gallagher
Cunningham’s Encyclopedia of Magical Herbs- Scott Cunningham
Magic and Medicine of Plants- Reader’s Digest
The Power of Birthdays Stars and Numbers- Saffi Crawford and Geraldine Sullivan
The Witches’ Goddess- Janet and Stewart Farrar
The Witches’ God- Janet and Stewart Farrar
•••
I wanted to end this tour off with my reading material because I want to emphasize how important it is to understand that “magick” is not just “stuff”.
I really enjoy all of my magical tools and there’s absolutely nothing wrong with having and wanting pretty things or an aesthetically pleasing altar. In fact I believe aesthetic and care are acts of love in themselves. Don’t ever let someone shame you for wanting to decorate and indulge in the aesthetics of your craft.
But please do remember that our greatest magical tool is our minds, our senses, and our experiences- our brains. Remember to read read read lots of material from many different sources. Contemplate honestly on everything you read, hear and experience. Do not take everything you believe today as a fact, do not box yourself in to anything. (Maybe that’s the Luciferian in me speaking lol)
Learn how to do magick alone, without any tools. My magick is not my stuff, although my stuff greatly aids me in my magick. Does that make sense?
Thank you so much for reading! I look forward to growing and learning so much more this year! :)
Blessed be!

Listening to Mr. Brightside by The Killers and thinking about the Frodo-Mari-Merry love triangle over my lunch break.
Too bad, Merry. You thought your father would not let you marry a Gamgee and that Mari would not move to Buckland? You thought very wrong. Not only did she go to Buckland, but she left the Shire when it was needed. I suppose it’s time to chain smoke the pain away.
Also, imagine BOTH Sam and Merry trying and failing to sleep in the hobbit house in Minas Tirith after Frodo and Marigold are reunited post quest.

You hesitate ? I already told you I didn’t mind dying between the hands of such a mysterious and magnificent being, right? If you want my heart, take it. But I know in your golden heart of yours, you prefer me alive, right? Deep breaths. You are so much more than a starving monster, Willow.
So willow, will you eat Leander or what? 🤔 Pucas are human flesh eaters, like many faeries, they are omnivores, but the most nutrients come from humans.
Willow is a ‘vegetarian’, she doesn’t eat meat anymore since she left the Senobium. And this, right here, happen during the Senobium, and Leander is still safe and sound, congrats, Leander, you survived your -hungry- fae goth gf! 👌 speaking of Leander, fae lovers are called “man of the shee”, by loving a faerie, they are doomed. Loving a supernatural being is deadly 🤷 fun fact: faeries need human milk to grow.

14th September 1797 saw the birth of Charles Lyell at Kinnordy, Angus.
Lyell was an important Scottish geologist, in his seminal work, Principles of Geology, he challenged the dominant thinking of the time which was based on the biblical viewpoint. He grew up in the New Forest in Hampshire where, encouraged by his father, he developed a keen interest in natural history. In 1816, Charles went to Oxford University to study classics but also attended geology lectures by William Buckland.
Building on the ideas of James Hutton, by careful observation he concluded that the Earth's physical features and its inhabitants were the result of continuous physical and chemical processes occurring gradually over long periods of geological time. Lyell's theory was revolutionary and infuriated the devout majority.
He later supported Charles Darwin's ideas about evolution. He was a patron of the Edinburgh Geological Society, Lyell was known chiefly for his influential book, the three-volume Principles of Geology. He even married a geologist: Mary Horner, the well-educated daughter of Leonard Horner (who founded Heriot-Watt University). Their honeymoon in 1832 was a geological tour of Switzerland and Italy.
Charles had been made the first Professor of Geology at King’s College, London, but he resigned in 1833 in the face of criticism that his lectures contradicted Biblical chronology, even to this day there are bible thumpers who try to discredit the work of Lyell, Hutton and the likes!
Charles Lyell died on 22nd February 1875 aged 77 at his home in Harley Street, London, he is buried at Westminster Abbey.
Lyell’s name lives on in Mount Lyell in Yosemite National Park. California; Lyell craters on the Moon and Mars; the Lyell Centre at Heriot-Watt University; and the jawless fossil fish, Cephalaspis lyelli.

When ice dance competition results are discussed online there is always a loud contingent that attributes success of certain teams to politics and the strength of their federation (or conversely, the failure of certain teams to medal to the small size or weakness of their federation). Is this a lazy critique, or a real factor in ice dance results?
Q #194:
Hi anon,
Great question, it’s a frustrating one to answer because frankly federation size and investment in politicking is one of the defining critiques of ice dance. It is very hard as a fan because teams rising due to remarkable talent are more the exception than the rule. There’s a reason why Denkova/Stavitski have been the last true non-large federation champions in the last two decades. Unlike pairs skating or men’s, where politics is a factor but it’s still far more reliant on making fewer dramatic mistakes or falls, ice dance is significantly more nuanced. Team A might hop every single turn in their step sequence but if they don’t physically bobble on a twizzle, Team B who had a sublime step sequence but visible losses of sync or balance on their twizzles might end up placing second almost entirely based on the focus of the technical panel and judge bias.
Tumblr media
For instance, take Fear/Gibson and their scoring evolution the past 6 years. Thanks to SkatingScores.com for this amazing chart. That improvement in scores is far more tied to the retirement of Coomes/Buckland, the abolition of the Style A step sequence, and increased financial investment in British ice dance than it is a product of their technical improvement. You can see a much flatter line for the Italians, who also benefitted from the retirement of Capellini/Lanotte in becoming top dogs, but have not had this very drastic increase. Fournier-Beaudry/Sorensen have had some of the best basic skating in the game for 8 years but needed to switch from Denmark—an essential non-factor in skating—to Canada to see any scores that reflected their abilities.
This Grand Prix Final IMO is almost entirely going to be decided by the composition of the judging panel and whether they fall more in the Gadbois or Carol camp. Realistically, I think you can see basically any combination of teams on the podium dependent on a few factors: (1) USFSA either dramatically supporting Chock/Bates to make up for their very clear technical errors and instability on the GP circuit or dropping that artificial support to assist Hawayek/Baker who’ve looked significantly more stable. (2) Skate Canada either letting their top 2 teams of G/P and FB/S go at it and splitting support, or with the door that C/B have left open with their poor performance this season solely setting G/P up to take the worlds title. (3) Technical panel composition, the Italians need a stringent tech panel to punish other teams for mistakes in order to claim a top 2 finish, Barbara has less judging pull than other feds or coaches. (4) Marie France and Gadbois have a lot of teams splitting their focus, Fear/Gibson have benefitted most from focused politicking when their main opponents have been G/P and G/F, we have not seen their scores head to head with C/B and FB/S so where MF’s focus lies in the Gadbois hierarchy is going to play a massive role. I hope this answers your questions!
