FATHER & SON: James Earl Jones with his Father Robert Earl Jones on Stage in the 1962 Production "Moon on a Rainbow Shawl."
Robert Earl Jones (February 3, 1910 – September 7, 2006), sometimes credited as Earl Jones, was an American actor and professional boxer. One of the first prominent Black film stars, Jones was a living link with the Harlem Renaissance of the 1920s and 1930s, having worked with Langston Hughes early in his career.
Jones was best known for his leading roles in films such as Lying Lips (1939) and later in his career for supporting roles in films such as The Sting (1973), Trading Places (1983), The Cotton Club (1984), and Witness (1985).
Jones was born in northwestern Mississippi; the specific location is unclear as some sources indicate Senatobia, while others suggest nearby Coldwater. He left school at an early age to work as a sharecropper to help his family. He later became a prizefighter. Under the name "Battling Bill Stovall", he was a sparring partner of Joe Louis.
Jones became interested in theater after he moved to Chicago, as one of the thousands leaving the South in the Great Migration. He moved on to New York by the 1930s. He worked with young people in the Works Progress Administration, the largest New Deal agency, through which he met Langston Hughes, a young poet and playwright. Hughes cast him in his 1938 play, Don't You Want to Be Free?.
Jones also entered the film business, appearing in more than twenty films. His film career started with the leading role of a detective in the 1939 race film Lying Lips, written and directed by Oscar Micheaux, and Jones made his next screen appearance in Micheaux's The Notorious Elinor Lee (1940). Jones acted mostly in crime movies and dramas after that, with such highlights as Wild River (1960) and One Potato, Two Potato (1964). In the Oscar-winning 1973 film The Sting, he played Luther Coleman, an aging grifter whose con is requited with murder leading to the eponymous "sting". In the later 20th century, Jones appeared in several other noted films: Trading Places (1983) and Witness (1985).
Toward the end of his life, Jones was noted for his stage portrayal of Creon in The Gospel at Colonus (1988), a black musical version of the Oedipus legend. He also appeared in episodes of the long-running TV shows Lou Grant and Kojak. One of his last stage roles was in a 1991 Broadway production of Mule Bone by Hughes and Zora Neale Hurston, another important writer of the Harlem Renaissance. His last film was Rain Without Thunder (1993).
Although blacklisted by the House Un-American Activities Committee in the 1950s due to involvement with leftist groups, Jones was ultimately honored with a lifetime achievement award by the U.S. National Black Theatre Festival.
Jones was married three times. As a young man, he married Ruth Connolly (died 1986) in 1929; they had a son, James Earl Jones. Jones and Connolly separated before James was born in 1931, and the couple divorced in 1933. Jones did not come to know his son until the mid-1950s. He adopted a second son, Matthew Earl Jones. Jones died on September 7, 2006, in Englewood, New Jersey, from natural causes at age 96.

The last day of the Faire, the sky was overcast, with rumbles of thunder in the far distance. As Mayor Nat stepped up to the podium set up in front of town hall, a small crowd gathered to hear the announcement. She proceeded to declare Pandora Flowers as the winner of the costume contest, and withdrew the sword to present to the winner of the tournament, Morgan Vovk.
Before she could, though, Quinn Buckley from the commune ran up on stage and grabbed the microphone from the podium.
“Listen! You have to listen. This, all of this, is because of a being far greater than us! It sent the creatures from the woods to test us! To separate the weak from the strong. It judges us because it wants us to be ready before it reveals itself. We have to listen! We have to—“
Sheriff Henry attempted to take the microphone from her, but she struggled against him, still shouting into the microphone.
“It’s real! I felt its presence! Those that listen will be saved!”
Thunder rumbled, closer than before, much closer. A loud crack of lightning illuminated the sky, blindingly bright. Beyond the clouds, briefly visible in that split second, loomed a shape, unrecognizable and massive, both bulbous and gangly. As quickly as it appeared it was gone, and what remained was the sizzling body of Tristan Wilde, struck by the lightning. The sky opened up, then, as thunder boomed directly above, and rain and hail pelted the town.
“It’s there! You all saw it! It’s real! We have to submit!” Quinn wailed, as Henry attempted to pull her off the stage. “I can prove it! I can walk amongst them untouched! I’ve been chosen! You can be chosen too!”
Her cries fell away in the deafening downpour, and those that had gathered scattered to find shelter in the nearest buildings. Whether or not they saw something or, if they did, if they believe what they saw, remains to be seen.
The storm raged on through the night, as the creatures wandered the streets unperturbed by the rain and hail. The lights of the town flickered and then, as lightning staggered across the sky, everything went dark.
(Those that ran to find shelter found themselves stuck for the night. Below you’ll find the (randomly selected) groups. You can choose for your characters to have seen the shape in the sky, to have not seen it, or to have seen it and not believe it.
Everyone can continue/finish their event threads, as all this took place on the final day of the Faire (the 29th). You may also time-jump threads, headcanon threads, or make new threads for the plot drop. The event officially ends on August 5th, at which time please do not make any more event starters, however you can continue all threads until completion.)

Other guests set to appear on the CD include STEEL PANTHER's Michael Starr, ATREYU's Brandon Saller, TRIVIUM's Matt Heafy, Canadian singer Lauren Babic and BLACK STONE CHERRY's Chris Robertson.
The "Imposter Syndrome" music video is expected to make its online debut on Friday, October 6.
The 27-year-old Lloyd told Guitar World about the LP: "I always said this album was going to be me paying homage to my 15-year-old self. This is an album I wrote for that girl.
"I'm so fortunate to work with all of the amazing singers on the record, and I can honestly say I've been listening to them for years.
"I can't tell you how gratifying it's been — I'd write the songs, and then we'd send them off and hear back from the singers. They were, like, 'Yeah, I really dig this. I'm up for it.' It's all turned out better than I could have imagined."
Regarding the album title, Sophie said: "Well, the imposter syndrome is a thing. It's a phenomenon a lot of people experience in any field; not just music, but you basically feel like you're an imposter. You don't deserve to be where you are, and at any moment people will uncover you for what you are. I feel like I've broken out of that now. I proved to myself, like, 'Yeah, you're here for a reason. You're good enough.'"
Asked if she is thinking of forming a band with one dedicated singer, Sophie said: "That's what we're trying to think about: 'How do we tour this?' We've got a few ideas. We're not sure whether we want to get a full-time vocalist — well, maybe. I guess it's just about finding a vocalist that fits you and inspires you. We might try something where we have big screens and we get vocalists to record a performance. The violinist Lindsey Stirling does that. Visually, it's pretty amazing.”
"Imposter Syndrome" track listing:
01. Do Or Die (feat. Nathan James) 02. Pressure (feat. Brandon Saller) 03. Imposter Syndrome (feat. Lzzy Hale) 04. Let It Hurt (feat. Chris Robertson) 05. Runaway (feat. Michael Starr) 06. Fall Of Man (feat. Matthew K. Heafy) 07. Lost (feat. Cole Rolland) 08. Hanging On (feat. Lauren Babic) 09. Avalanche (feat. Trevor McNevan) 10. Won't You Come (feat. Marisa Rodriguez) 11. Judge And Jury (feat. Tyler Connolly)

Even If You Don't Know a Lot About the Bible
Today's inspiration comes from:
Always Enough, Never Too Much
by Jess Connolly & Hayley Morgan
"My short-term memory and my long-term memory could not be more different. I can remember minute details of stuff that happened in the 1980’s. I’m one of those weirdos who has really distinct memories of things I shouldn’t be able to remember. I can describe houses I lived in before I was three years old. I can remember playing with my dog as a toddler, the one who died when I was two. I remember every hurtful thing a boy ever said to me in middle school. I remember what I ate the first time I got the stomach bug.
But my short-term memory? Not so hot. If I’m at a coffee date with a friend I really love, even if I’ve known her for a while, I’ll totally blank on her name. I have to use the map on my phone to get to places I’ve been multiple times. I’ve even started taking notes detailing what I wear to church just to make sure I don’t wear the exact same thing each Sunday and freak everyone out.
I’m not sure if my long-term memory crowded out my short-term memory or what, but retaining knowledge is just a little challenging and different for me. This is made increasingly interesting as someone who loves the Word of God, teaches the Word of God, and writes about Jesus. Memorizing Scripture is out of the question. I’ve used all the techniques and tricks. I don’t know the order of books in the Old Testament or the New Testament, and even though I’ve been reading the Bible for decades now, I have to look in the table of contents to figure out where a certain book is.
You don’t have to know the whole Bible to take a bite of it today.
I know about God, I know His heart, and I know about His character. And I love the Bible — I love reading it, studying it, and teaching it to people. But I will never be the kind of gal who approaches the Word of God with the intention of stuffing myself full of knowledge so I can be wise or be seen as someone who knows enough. I just can’t — my brain doesn’t work like that.
But where my memory deficiency has held me back, the Spirit of God has comforted and encouraged me.
You don’t have to know the whole Bible to take a bite of it today.
In Matthew 6, Jesus told us to treat partaking in the presence of God like eating our daily bread. You don’t have to know the whole Bible to take a bite of it today. And you don’t have to understand the overwhelming scope of the people of Israel to go to the Word right now and grab a fistful of nourishment for your heart. No one (least of all God) is expecting you to stuff yourself with knowledge, and you’re enough, just as He made you, to seek Him right where you are. Maybe you can remember the Bible better than I can. But whatever you do, don’t let the Enemy convince you that God’s Word isn’t for you.
~ Jess"

Life's Ultimate Choice
“Now there were four leprous men at the entrance of the gate; and they said to one another, “Why are we sitting here until we die?”
‭‭II Kings‬ ‭7‬:‭3‬ ‭NKJV‬‬
Jerusalem was under siege by the Assyrian army and the inhabitants were starving to death when Elijah the prophet , announces, “Hear the word of the Lord. Thus says the Lord: ‘Tomorrow about this time a sesh of fine flour shall be sold for a shekel, and two seahs of barley for a shekel, at the gate of Samaria.’ ”(II Kings‬ ‭7‬:‭1‬). Is it any wonder that the king's right-hand man responded, "Are you kidding me?" (My paraphrase). At the same time there were four lepers sitting at the city gate even hungrier than those inside it and whose place on the roster for food was at the very bottom. They were now so desperate for food they no longer cared whether they lived or died, they would go to where there was plenty of it and throw themselves on the mercy of their enemies. That's a pretty desperate place to be in but it's one that all of us come to because it is the ultimate choice we all have to make. Put another way, our ultimate choice in life is to "Choose ye now whom ye will serve". The Christian author Norman Grubb goes to great lengths to explain the ONLY choice to that question is God or Satan, there is no independent "Self" that gets to choose the third option of "Neither" because we are conceived in sin and held captive by Satan until we make the only other choice there is---God! There is no other. That may be shattering to our self-confidence but it is nonetheless true.
The well-known Scottish comedian, Bill Connolly, whom I found out was in my class in primary school in Glasgow, has several million fans spread across the globe. He recently announced he is suffering from Parkinson's disease and does not expect to be with us much longer (he is one month older than I) but his comment on his condition is so typical of many armchair philosophers today: "There is no past and and there is no future, there is only now so live for now"! How wise that sounds to some as they thumb their noses at reality and casually live their lives as they think suits them but they cannot see how lost they really are.
The four lepers were forced to make their ultimate choice because it was a life or death decision for them--no "ifs, ands or buts" but God came through for them in grandiose fashion with a whole camp full of all kinds of goodies and He does the same for us through his Son, the Lord Jesus but only when we get serious about whom we will serve. Millions today are like the four lepers, only they don't realize they have leprosy. If there is a God, then they rely on their own goodness to get them past the post and into heaven. Tragically, many sitting in churches are of the same mindset and are about to find out that Satan has already besieged them and is starving them in a spiritual death. We have entered the final stages of human history and Jesus warns us it will be a time of great trial and persecution whether you are pre-, mid-, post- or a-tribulation. Hanging on to him during this time will take all we have and millions are not going to make it because " the love of many will grow cold" (Matthew 24:12). But as Paul says, "We are not of those who shrink back". (Hebrews 10:39).
There has never been a time like this when the whole world seems to be caught up in so much corruption and lawlessness and our focus must be on the furtherance of the Gospel of Jesus Christ both personally, locally, nationally and beyond.
