It really pets my peeves when people post ab how I shouldn't get upset over something that doesn't even happen in canon. Like first of all, if I don't like a character thats the way I PERSONALLY think. If I think that Snape is a jerk or that Remus is gay, I'm allowed. It's a headcanon- it exists in my head.

And it's not like I'm telling anyone they're wrong. Like I'd probably say it AS A JOKE but I'm not searching for someone posting ab Snape x James or something just to reply and be like HOW DARE YOU-! Like I'm just over here existing and you're telling me I can't think something just bc it's not canon.

Hello tumblr moot I am gonna answer this they rant bc I have SO many opinions abt the Petticoat Affair

(mentions of abuse in one paragraph so be warned)

As to what they thought of her before??? I imagine they liked her, she was the acting First Lady, and she did take the side of the wives, and eventually left when her uncle called her out.

I think one of the things that draws me so much to the Petticoat Affair is, nobody involved is a good person. You have the Eaton’s, basket cases, then you have the Calhoun’s, ALSO basket cases but sligtly crazier.

Then you have Jackson, and I firmly believe his reaction was a trauma response. Yes, I know that bold of me to say, but he witnessed his wife, arguably the love of his life, basically get bullied till she died. It’s well known that clouded his judgement and influenced his opinion.

Eaton’s and Calhoun’s arent 100% innocent either. Pretty known, but from what I’ve heard, Margaret just seemed bitchy for no reason, and her husband just didn’t care. Floride was straight up abusive to her husband, and also seemed bitchy too. I can see why he’d be a bit scared to talk to her (and which is I also believe she had underlying mental illness, a convo for a different post)

There are a million ways this could have gone. And I have my opinions. Should JCC have tried to talk to his wife?? Maybe. Should the cabinet women have ostracized Margaret? No, at least not to the degree they did. Should Margaret have been a little bitch? No. Is everyone involved in this a bad person? 100%.

I genuinely do not know what I would have done if I was in Jackson’s shoes. I’m okay at socializing online, but irl nah. I’d probably cry LMAO. In all seriousness, this issue is so complex, and both sides were wrong, if that makes sense.
