She’s competitive (re: game night)

She’s determined and/or stubborn (applying for medical school again and again to the detriment of her savings, keeping Curly alive though mercy-killing him would be just as acceptable)

She’s insanely good at her job even if she’s not legally a nurse (keeping Curly alive this long on very limited supplies, holy hell)

She’s a logical person (assessing situations quickly and accurately, taking time to think things through before acting, paying attention to detail)

THE LIVING MUSEUM: CHAPTER 1

(interactive puzzle at the bottom!)

As luck would have it, the detective had a case that had just been given to her by the Chief Constable Barton (talk about a high order!) I watched as she leafed through the folders on her desk before slipping out a small stack of papers and bringing them over to me. Clearing her throat, Detective Layton ran over the details…

“At approximately 2:00pm, a fire alarm in the Natural History Museum sounded. Around 5 minutes later, visitors in the museum reported that they witnessed several exhibits, and I quote, ‘come to life before their eyes.’ There were visitors who told officials that the suits of armour on display had started to move and raise their weapons, visitors who reported that paintings on the walls started to melt and blink, and visitors who said that the dinosaur skeleton exhibits had opened their mouths and moved their heads. But the most damning of all seemed to be the Tyrannosaurus rex exhibit, who not just moved but assumed a lunging stance with its full body, as well as somehow roared.”

“Right, that’s odd. And?”

“Well, since the officials were only able to question the visitors outside of the museum due to everyone having been evacuated because of the fire alarm, naturally they went inside to check the exhibits themselves.”

“And they found…?”

“Nothing. They did a whole sweep of the area, but they found nothing out of place. All exhibits were in their normal places, the paintings were just fine, and everything was untouched.”

“Wow…”

“I assume the reason that Barton held onto what information they had on it and handed it to me was due to the witnesses. Despite the fact that the Yard found no obvious signs of tampering, everyone swears up and down the walls that the museum had seemingly come to life at that moment.”

“...That is a proper mystery. And these files are all we have on the matter?”

“Well, in a sense, yes. These are all the files we have,” Detective Layton muses as she taps the bottom of the stack on the coffee table. Then, getting up, she drops the stack back in their folder. “...Which is why I was thinking of heading over to the museum myself to do a bit of personal investigation.”

“As expected of the great Professor Layton,” I say cheekily as I stand and follow her to the front door, grabbing my jacket off the hanger in the process. The detective sighs lightly as she places her hat on her head, pulling the brim over her eyes in mock disappointment. “Please, Ms. Altava. It's just Detective.”

Now lifting the brim, she smiles brightly as she grabs her umbrella.

“So, Ms. Altava… let’s go investigate this living museum with our own two eyes, shall we?”

And with that, our adventure into the peculiar museum begi-

“Ah, but before that, I have here the directions to the museum written for me by Barton, and it seems to be a puzzle of some sort. As you’re now my assistant, why don’t you give it a shot? Think of it as a warm-up of things to come.”

…Right. She’s Layton’s daughter, after all. How could I have forgotten? …And are we sure they're not really related by blood…?

This came to me earlier, and now I am utterly obsessed: While it was clear to me that Odysseus stabbing Poseidon wasn't any kind of Vengeance, there was one act of Vengeance after all, even if inadvertent—it was Odysseus disproving Poseidon's "Ruthlessness is mercy upon ourselves" belief right in front of his very eyes. With him as the subject, even.

Think about it—the fact that Poseidon remained ruthless and insisted on punishing Odysseus was the only reason he got stabbed repeatedly. If Poseidon had been merciful, if he had accepted Odysseus' offer of forgiveness, he would've been fine. His own ruthlessness backfired so hard on him this time that I am sincerely hoping it haunts him forever.

I am actually utterly obsessed with Poseidon thinking back to Odysseus "Maybe you could learn to forgive?" on a daily, no an hourly basis. I cannot and will not lie to you that is unironically my favorite moment in the whole Vengeance saga just because of what it says about both the characters—about Odysseus for offering and Poseidon for declining (and also because Odysseus sings it in Poseidon's own motif which is just absolutely brilliant.) And this makes me love it even more.

Poseidon was going to decline, we all know that. I don't think anyone watching—even Odysseus, probably—expected him to accept. But then I'm picturing him lying there, bleeding into the stone, and, against his will, wondering whether maybe he should have. Maybe if he had, he wouldn't be in pain. Maybe if he had not killed Odysseus' fleet ten years ago, he wouldn't be in pain either. Maybe this one time ruthlessness wasn't mercy upon himself—maybe this time, his one grand belief was wrong. Maybe ... it was always wrong.

Obviously, he would never admit to these thoughts, he would slap himself for having them one second later. But I simply need this self-proclaimed god of ruthlessness to be utterly haunted by that and question whether he made the right choice or no—whether he's even lived by the correct philosophy all his immortal life—and no matter what, be too stubborn to admit he was wrong.

He's trying to pretend like nothing changed, but the thoughts still remain. They pester him. They won't leave him alone. Especially every time someone—anyone—is kind to him for whatever reason, they come crashing back into him and they won't leave.

"What if my own ruthlessness hurt me that time?"

"What if ruthlessness isn't mercy upon ourselves after all?"

"What if I'm wrong?"

"What if I have always been wrong?"

The most dreadful thoughts imaginable to a god as proud and stubborn and old as Poseidon, but they're there now and he can't do anything about them. You all don't understand how much I NEED this god to jolt up in his bed at 3 am after having a dream or nightmare about something related to one of his many ruthless deeds (maybe even sinking Odysseus' fleet) and go "BUT WHAT IF I HAD LEARNED TO FORGIVE?? WHAT IF I STILL COULD??" only to immediately slap himself for it because that's absolutely ridiculous.

He is left to watch this belief shatter before his very eyes as he's clinging to the remains of it desperately, trying to keep it all from crumbling. Not because he genuinely believes he's right anymore, but because he simply cannot imagine ... does not know how to live by any other philosophy.

No matter whether it's objectively correct or not, it's the very thing that defines him. The thing he's known for. He has built his entire image around this, he cannot give it up no matter what ... at least not quickly or without help.

But as much he would seek to deny it, his core belief has now been proven wrong; he has actually lived through an instance where it was wrong, and he can do nothing to erase those memories or conclusions from his mind no matter how much he yearns to go back to simpler times.

And that was the real Vengeance, guys—possibly the biggest, most painful existential crisis of Poseidon's immortal life. I rest my case.

Although before I disappear back into the void I simply must give a shout out to @o3o-lapd-o3o (this came to me during a conversation in one of their comment sections for the glorious Friends In Higher Places AU, which is quite possibly my favorite piece of EPIC fan content that exists ...)

what's our consensus on Boothill's thoughts on easter? if it exists in the hsr universe (which.. surely it must be known of in a historical sense, at least? i swear the MC refers to "easter eggs" at least once) it's probably totally detached from the religious background by that point, right?? im unclear on how earth connects to the rest of the universe lore-wise but whatever.

i think he would be delighted by it honestly. specifically the egg hunts. i can 100% see him meticulously hiding eggs in all sorts of crazy places. climbs up trees like a fucking monkey just to tuck them in the branches all the way at the top. does impossible parkour and hides one away out of sight. hides them in gutters and under rocks and in light poles and shit. considers the environments to pick the most similar colors to make them harder to spot. but also i imagine he's really considerate for younger kids that can't get to the most difficult ones, so he scatters plenty in more intermediate areas too.

simultaneously i really feel like he'd enjoy taking part in the hunts too.. the candy is not the priority though, he gives that away to the kids (or you 💖) for sure. his real goal is that HIGH SCORE BABY !!!! he'd get so competitive about it so fast lmao. immediately starts climbing all over the fucking place trying to find the most difficult ones and whining if he can't find any. he has a pretty substantial advantage with the enhanced eyes and everything, so you'd probably have to team up with someone to stand a chance at beating him lol

Inconvenienced - Chapter 3

(all previous parts of "Of Convenience" and "In Convenience")

Adar x Celebrimbor (silverscars) political marriage to marriage of love AU, 5 times Adar and Celebrimbor try to spend some 'private' time together and get interrupted, and one time they finally manage, chapter 3. The forge has been rebuilt, and both Celebrimbor and his assistants spend their first day back in the smithy together. With many reminders of Annatar gone, and the elf having a piece he wants to complete, the day is a resounding success. Much later, after the others have left, Celebrimbor presents the piece to Adar in a sweet moment between the two, until…

Note: There is some kissing, but most of the interactions between the two are just very fluffy and a little sappy conversations and some gentle touches.

I love this little chapter - getting to bring back the characters that appear, the way Celebrimbor and Adar interact, the various callbacks and hints to the rest of the 'verse...it's very lovely. I hope you wonderful people enjoy it as much as I do! <3

Nick himself said that his knowledge is confined to the leaks prior to s4, the s4 scripts from his verified source (likely within a source) and basic knowledge most fans paying attention have been able to formulate about s5 based on what has been released officially/unofficially, trends from Netflix and common sense.

He is saying based on all that, he doesn’t think byler is happening. 

And if we think back to what the Duffers themselves shared in the 4x09 script, it literally implies Mike’s monologue worked, and that it was entirely genuine. This tells me that the script the Duffers released for Emmy consideration, is not that far off from what Nick saw for himself. 

I think it’s likely Nick got something that the average below the line worker might manage to get their hands on if they tried hard enough. A copy they know they have to water-down to prevent these very situations from happening.

Unfortunately for the Duffers, it just so happens that they didn’t scrub their watered down copy hard enough.

Unfortunately for Nick, he admitted that it’s possible and even likely that the production will release things that aren’t exactly accurate with the sole purpose to lead fans sleuthing astray, without realizing it may have ironically already happened to him.

I'm planning to do a full breakdown of all the new footage I discovered in there, but I just couldn't wait to share these because they are SO INTERESTING to me. it's like a four second clip of Maximus in his tent in Germania, featuring him doing something where he's shuffling some nutshells around

I am so curious about what he's doing!!! it's probably a strategy technique, like him using the nutshells to represent different sections of his army and planning their attack. if not, maybe it's some kind of Roman version of solitaire?? I mean he's been on the road for years at this point, and how adorable would it be if this is his little nighttime unraveling technique, like a crossword puzzle or smth??

I think Jowan nags at Eldwin about drinking too much and smoking is bad for you, you know. And Eldwin's just like dude it's either this or hard drugs. Take your pick.

Of course, they could stop him. They would have to confine him to the house as his work requires him to hang out in the city a lot and they couldn't keep an eye on him 24/7. They could do that. His work as an enforcer is valuable, it's so easy to get him to do something and you know he'll do it well, but it's nothing a non-mage couldn't do.

But it would be a hassle. Frankly, it's not worth it. Because what they're working on, soon it won't matter. There are two outcomes.

Either it works, and anything regarding his health and wellbeing won't matter. Or... it doesn't work and anything regarding his health and wellbeing won't matter.

As long as he does his job, they really don't care what he does. Besides, it's not like he'll be able to forever, and he's served them so well over the past decade. Consider this current freedom a final act of mercy.

(and frankly he's a more likable person when he's on something. You know those people who drink to combat social anxiety? And like, it's a problem you shouldn't do that? yeah. Clyde encourages it at their social events because he's actually less embarrassing.)

Also like right now it's easy to not recognise it as a problem. It's only sometimes, on the these days rare occasion he's out of the house. It's not that bad. I feel like he actually gets worse when he's away from the syndicate, because when he's not living in constant fear and every moment is a fight to survive, not remembering how it feels to not be in fight or flight (or freeze and fawn in his case) when he's forced to confront his thoughts. Survival is a distraction. He doesn't know how to handle being safe.

And that's when it becomes a problem. No longer is it "just" an occasional sip or smoke to steel himself for a social event he's forced to attend or to distract himself from the acrid scent of burning flesh. No, it is when he's supposed to be free that he finds himself relying on these crutches more and more and he won't notice until it's too hard to go back.

He thought his indenture was terrible. He didn't imagine freedom could be worse.
