I am no great holo taker nor photographer, though I catch something interesting with the lens on my datapad from time to time. In this instance, I was merely reviewing previous holos and was... startled. Caught off guard.

It is embarrassing to admit.

A witch of the Spider Clan found me taking my rest in a cave. Such was her skill with stealth that I felt nothing in the force until the witch was a few feet away. Perhaps, it was that she did not mean any harm that the force chimed no warning. My thumb landed on the shutter button by sheer chance, capturing the flat holo above.

This cave is, apparently, her pet project. The egg sacks at the back I barely paid attention to are an experimental brood. We spoke at length, slowly on my part, of her objectives in breeding a new kind of spider.

For a witch, she was surprisingly scientific.

Lf new year celebrations 🎊

A few months back me and my friends brainstormed what new year celebrations would be like in the lf, i can't think of a better time to post these! Happy new year everyone :]

-Every year the Forest kingdom organizes a huge parade for the new year, starting at 10pm with a message from their current ruler, after that the members of the manticore guard will march through the streets of Greenbourn as many Dawn magic users will use their powers to launch countess of flowers in the night sky.

Forest kingdom

-Its a very hyped up event and many people from different towns go to Grenbourn on new years even just to see it.

-the other towns tend to have their own parades/street parties as well, while they're not as big as the one in Greenbourn, one thing is certain; on January 1st there will be flowers and petals scattered everywhere from the celebration of the past night.

Mountain kingdom

-During the new year an enormous aurora borealis can be seen in the night sky pretty much everywhere on the Mountain kingdom, it's a once a year event no one wants to miss. During it families tend to organize their supper on tables or picnic blankets outside their houses so that they can watch the aurora.

-Since everything is outside it ends up becoming a collective banquet, with people sharing food from each other's tables, kids running around playing and bards singing through the night as couples dance happily. Some people even challenge themselves to stay awake the whole night to not miss a second of the aurora.

-The festivities are a bit different at the Cult of the frozen guardian/Hidden salvation. While its members still watch the aurora outside their houses, this is done with everyone in a circle while they collectively pray for the frozen guardian to bless the year to come. This praying section lasts several hours and anyone who disturbs the celebration will be punished accordingly the next day.

Desert kingdom

-The Desert kingdom has the most diverse amount of new year celebrations. For the Phoenixes who are monarchy and members of the high society, an enormous gala is hosted by the queens in their castle followed by a banquet of the best food you can imagine. It's a very fancy celebration where the queens share their plans for the years to come and business deals can be made.

-Meanwhile, the rest of the population has the habit of setting off fireworks in the night sky and watching them from outside their houses, many day magic users also use their abilities to make pyrotechnic shows in the sky as well. Despite the kingdom's usual mean nature, it's one night where everyone can simply sit together and enjoy the festivities.

-The spider's in Rockyashes and rebellion members who cannot go outside due to their faces being known to the public also have a different celebration. They tend to host a party on their bases where they will talk with one another, eat and dance the night away.

Ocean kingdom

-Similar to the Desert kingdom, in the Ocean a big fancy party is hosted by the ruler for them, the monarchy and high society to enjoy. This party lasts the whole night and the Ocean kingdom royal guard has to stay guarding the perimeter through the whole event to make sure everything will go perfectly. Richer Middle class families and citizens from Shining reefs tend to host their own new year parties as well.

-For the low class citizens who live in the provinces, or anyone who used to live there but managed to rise in status, the new year's celebration is not one or partying loudly on the streets. It's a simple dinner at their houses with friends and family, a night to be thankful for getting the luxury of having your family not have been taken away from you.

-Many families tend to bake sweets and hand them to other peers and friends on new year's eve who have their own celebrations to attend as a way to show that they do care for them. Parents who've recently lost their children to the takers tend to take the night to mourn them on this date, praying that they're safe on the depths.

-Sea serpents don't really celebrate the new year, most of them see it as just another night as everything always looks and feels the same in Roaring depths. At most they will get a pat on the back from their peers or caretakers for making it to another year and that's about it. Sometimes a few serpents will sneak to the surface to look at the night sky.

Shore kingdom

-On new year's eve, Shore folk from all across the kingdom gather up on the kingdom's beaches and set up towels all across the sand where they will sit with friends and family to have their supper, watching the tides as they eat. When midnight hits multiple fireworks will be launched from behind the people and will explode over the ocean, creating a beating pyrotechnic display.

-Many people tend to go out swimming on the beach or just play in the shallow water after the firework show, some will try to jump up seven waves, as they believe this helps wash out everything bad from the previous year and bring luck for the one to come.

-Finding a serpent scale on a new year's celebration is considered a sign that something great will happen to you in the upcoming year.

Sanctuary of peace + Land of no rulers

-Sanctuary guardians don't really celebrate the new years as they can't leave their duty to go join the festivities, most used to just take it as a day ro rest easy, some would write to their families if they were still alive, and others would climb up to the highest place in the sanctuary to try and watch the festivities from afar.

-There is no official celebration at the Land of no rulers, the few people who live there tend to just go be a part of the celebration of a kingdom nearby.

One of the things I love most about Tauriel is her multitudes and how that embodies above descriptions of the Wood-elves.

Let me explain.

Tauriel is both a healer and taker of life.

We see her as a healer with the capacity of Elvish healing and knowledge of herb lore, physical healing, and spiritual healing. Wood-elves are known to possess strong magic, and this magic can be that of a healer.

But we also see her ability to take life as a warrior, perhaps a bit ruthlessly, or at least enough for Legolas to warn a captured Orc that he should "not antagonize her". There is a suggested element there within Legolas' words that alludes to the very famous line of the Wood-elves being "less wise and more dangerous." Certainly, it is written upon her face in that moment.

This duality is seen through the Wood-elves' differentiation between other Elven races. Yes, Wood-elves possess magic and therefore a capability to heal. But they are different than their Elven counterparts in that they chose to remain in the world and not go to Faerie. Instead, they chose to live simply with Nature, which means they possess a ruthlessness that Nature can sometimes show (and also a gentleness.. there is both).

She displays distrust of strangers, but also shows great love for them.

Tauriel also carries a bit of suspicion of outsiders, which is said to be the Wood-elves only fault. When we first meet Tauriel, she is battling the spiders who have attacked the Company. Kíli tells her to give him a weapon, to which Tauriel responds: "If you think I’m giving you a weapon, Dwarf, you are mistaken!" She maintains a distrust of outsiders and does carry the prejudices Elves maintain of dwarves (and vice versa).

But even with that suspicion, Tauriel also displays great love for others beyond her realm, namely in her choices to go after the Company to aid them, healing Kíli, looking after the Bardlings, fighting in the Battle of the Five Armies, and yes, even defying her King to remain and not flee from others who need help.

While the Wood-elves do take to themselves and do not wish to meddle in the affairs of others (as is stated in the line from the Unfished Tales with the "desire of the Silvan Elves to meddle as little as might be in the affairs of the Noldor and Sindar, or of any other peoples, Dwarves, Men, or Orcs"), they are not wholly separated from others. In fact, there was a time when the Wood-elves ventured beyond the forest (as seen below), and they also lived under reigns of Oropher and Thranduil--- reigns that brought the Wood-elves out to fight for Middle-earth.

Tauriel loves and belongs to the Forest, but she also is part of the Wide World.

Yes it is true that Tauriel is of the forest. It is in her name, her being, and the way she dresses and carries herself (for all things she does from her healing to her fighting to the way she walks and dress... it is all a reflection of the forest/nature). She loves the stars best, for it is memory, and has no fear of the dusk and the gloaming of the forest, for she dwells in it.

But she also openly admits that she has gone out there sometimes in the night, and she certainly ventures beyond the forest in the films. This is not wholly uncharacteristic of the Wood-elves, for while they are certainly more reclusive and tucked away from the world, they still participated in it. The Wood-elves would linger at the edge of the forest and travel beyond it-- mostly at nighttime. They would venture out into the world for practicality (i.e. hunting) and also just because they wanted to (i.e. simply riding out).

In many ways, Tauriel is always one foot in the forest, and one foot beyond it.

Tauriel possesses the ability to show great emotion and to almost be devoid of it.

We see a variety of emotion from Tauriel--- her ruthless/dangerous anger (against the Orcs), grief (loss of Kíli), love and compassion (displayed to other races, her healing Kíli), playfulness (that little lilt of her brow when Legolas realizes that she knew he would come), etc.

But we also see her devoid of it, showing instead a need to choose practicality or otherwise push emotion aside. The primary example I have of this is when Bain leaves the boat to retrieve his father's black arrow. Everyone calls out to Bain, telling him to come back, and there is this urgency there that perhaps they should try to get him. It is Tauriel who says no. She tells them to let him go, for if they turn back, they might all be killed.

To me, this goes back to Wood-elves being Good People and also being wary / living simply in nature. Wood-elves are not unfeeling toward others and the world, but they also have an ability to present themselves as perhaps a bit more detached or emotionless. This again goes back to that line in the Unfinished Tales that Silvan elves lived "a simple life natural to the Elves before the invitation of the Valar had disturbed it."

Think of Nature--- there is only life and death, and in that, there is only acceptance of that fact. There is no emotion behind it; it simply is. And sometimes, Tauriel can accept and make these choices that perhaps seem unfeeling, but rather are simply an acceptance much like nature accepts the ebb and flow of the world.

The Cradle of Sulevin appeared so suddenly out of the trees that Rowan knew they could have walked within a hundred yards of it without even knowing it was there. One moment they had been trekking through the endless Arbor Wilds - sweating, itching, Varric telling yet another story to drown out the awkward silence - and suddenly it was there amongst the trees, exactly where the dead elves’ notes had said it would be. Varric’s story died on his lips and they beheld their destination in silence.

“So this is where the Sulevin Blade was lost,” Rowan remarked softly.

“Lost or misused?” Solas’s voice still made her heart skip, but these days it was out of anger. “There is a reason it was never reclaimed.”

Just over ten words after a long journey in silence, and she already wanted to snap at him.

He’d already expressed his reservations over the mission when she’d first - grudgingly - asked him to accompany them back at Skyhold. He might be a stupid heartless know-it-all who thought it was reasonable to remove an elf’s vallaslin before dumping them with no explanation, but the ‘know-it-all’ was the relevant part there. He was still her resident ancient elven expert, and she’d have been irresponsible not to take full advantage of that when this blade could make a difference - not just in the war against Corypheus, but to the Dalish as a whole.

“The Sulevin Blade?” His eyebrows had gone up in surprise, and for a moment he seemed more like himself, more like the man she had come to know, than he’d been since Crestwood - before the impersonal professional mask descended once again. “A remarkable find, if true,” he’d gone on, “but perhaps one best left where it is.”

Old Rowan would have eagerly asked for more information, begging for stories and insights. Old Rowan was an idiot. New Rowan just rolled her eyes. “Big surprise, Mr I-don’t-consider-myself-to-have-much-in-common-with-elves doesn’t think it’s worth recovering a Dalish artefact.”

“That’s not-”

“Let me guess, you already saw it in the Fade?”

“That is not the issue here,” he cut in, and she got a petty satisfaction to see he was annoyed, that she could still provoke a reaction out of him. “It was lost on purpose. Perhaps it is more danger than it is worth.”

“Like the Vir Abelasan?” Rowan snapped at that. 

“Exactly so,” Solas had snapped right back, “You do not know-”

“Oh, please, Solas, keep telling me all the things I don’t know. I don’t know what vallaslin really mean! I don’t know what the Creators were really like! I don’t know why we can’t be together! I just don’t know anything, I’m so lucky to have you here to tell me these things!”

A ringing silence followed her outburst, and she was mortifyingly sure that Leliana was up in her aviary hanging on to every word. But she refused to back down, to look away, and was gratified that Solas broke their eye contact first.

“I will, of course, accompany you,” he said, smooth and unruffled. “I will be ready to leave when required.”

She’d wanted to yell at him then. She wanted to yell at him now. But instead she took a breath, exhaled, and said brightly, “Well, we didn’t come all this way to leave it lost now. Let’s go inside.”

“What do you reckon’s in there?” Varric asked brightly, “Spiders? Undead?”

“I’m hoping a sword,” said Blackwall flatly, swatting at a bug that had landed on his face.

“I think demons. Five silver on demons, any takers?”

“No bet,” said Rowan and Blackwall in unison.

Something cold, something unforgiving, clamped around her middle, and before she could think or move or even look, she was yanked off her feet - the room flew by in a confusing rush, or was she the one flying? - she hit the ground hard, the wind knocked out of her, arrows spilling from their quiver, and she could distantly hear the others, but why did they sound so far away, she was right next to them -

The blade plummeted towards her face just as she rolled to the side, just in time, the hefty broadsword plunging into the ground an instant later, right where her head had just been. She came out of the roll up onto her feet, grabbed her daggers from her belt, not taking her eyes off the Revenant where it raised the sword and looked to her again. She couldn’t take this thing alone, but she couldn’t glance away to see how far away Blackwall was.

“Inquisitor!” she heard Solas cry, like he was afraid for her, like he actually gave a damn, but she couldn’t glance at that either. Not when the Revenant was swinging its sword at her again, and she was going to have keep moving to not get skewered.

The blade whistled towards her and she dove sideways. The Revenant turned to follow her, and she pinned the blade with a dagger whilst vaulting over it. It stabbed at her, and she ducked, twisted, staying one moment, one breath ahead of it at a time, buying the seconds for Blackwall to get across the room to her -

In slow motion, she realised she hadn’t moved far enough this time, and then the blade was plunging towards her, piercing her side and sliding through her flesh like it was nothing. She felt the warmth of her blood pouring from the wound, but then cold, horribly cold, and then cold was all she felt.

She opened her eyes and she was on the ground. The sword was no longer in her, but she still felt cold, her clothes sticking to her with the wetness of her blood. She dimly remembered she was supposed to be doing something important but it all felt very far away. She was just aware of her body, how heavy and cold it felt, and wondered if she could just go to sleep.

“Stay awake, da’len,” a familiar voice was saying urgently.

Ugh. She was so sick of him telling her what to do. She’d say so, but she was so tired.

“Stay awake, da’len. Don’t you dare leave us now.”

“Shut up,” she mumbled.

She heard him laugh, a short, desperate laugh. “Yes, that’s it. Stay here to yell at me. Keep telling me how awful I am. You’re the only one who can.”

Solas. It was Solas. He was crouched beside her, restorative energies rolling off his hands across her whole body, glowing intensely around the wound in her side. She was starting to feel something there besides the cold - a warming, accompanied by a deep ache, which started softly but got worse and worse until she instinctively try to roll away from him.

One of his hands moved and clamped to her shoulder, pinning her to the floor, holding her in place as he kept healing. “Oh no you don’t.”

“It hurts,” she protested. Every nerve in her side seemed to be screaming, and she wanted to scream with them, if it hadn’t felt like it’d take too much effort.

“I know.” His fingers squeezed on her shoulder, once. “Just hold on.”

The pain built and built, until she thought she might just scream after all - until it abruptly banked and faded, leaving the strange sensation of the sudden absence of pain. She still felt exhausted, and continued to lie still as Solas’s restorative energies continued to roll over her. She’d been healed enough times to know that compensating for blood loss was just as important as mending the wound itself. She could be a good patient and wait.

His hand was still resting on her shoulder, but gently now, and his eyes flicked from the healing to meet hers. “You must be more careful,” he said softly.

She wanted to laugh. She wanted to roll her eyes. She settled for snorting. “I get stabbed and you still make it my fault.”

He huffed an annoyed breath through his nose. “You are too important to be lost to a careless blade.”

“Oh sorry, I’ll try to remember that the next time I’m being stabbed, ‘oh no but what about the Inquisition-’”

“I was not speaking of the Inquisition,” he snapped. She stared at him, and when he met her eyes again, the impassive mask was completely gone. There was a depth of raw feeling she had not seen since their encounter with Wisdom. A depth that mirrored, equalled that of what she carried around in her own heart every day, which he otherwise hadn’t let her glimpse.

A pang of longing cracked through her heart. She chose to bury it in fury. “No,” she said.

“No?”

“If we’re done, we’re done.” She fought to keep her voice firm even as her body began to tremble. “You don’t get to say we’re nothing to each other and then say things like that. I can handle us being colleagues, but I can’t-” Her voice broke. He waited. A breath. “I can’t handle you being kind to me.”

He took this in. It took a moment, but the impassive mask slid back down, hiding his own feelings so completely she could easily believe they had never been there. “As you wish, Inquisitor.” A few more moments, and the magic pouring from his hands ceased, and he brushed them together in a business like way. “You are healed.”

Hardly, she wanted to snark at him. But, she allowed, at least she was getting to her feet.

When the rda had thought they had the upper hand they had been proven wrong, over and over again as the great mother children were going to fight for their families and homes. It's really heartwarming to see how much the twins throw everything into their relationship but it's also soul crushing to imagine them going through a break up for any reason. For that reason I can't see either of them having much dating experience, maybe Emmet has more experience than Ingo because he's the more outgoing twin but even then i cant imagine its that much

Ingo wants a life partner, so he hates the idea of casual dating. That doesn't mean a few people haven't played along with what he craves in order to just mess with him, get something out of him, or because they want the supposed acclaim of dating a 'powerful trainer'. The latter are often surprised to find out Ingo is just some guy who doesn't think himself much more than that. Breakups always hurt because in order to date him, you have to play along with his wants for a strong commitment and marriage someday. Possibly starting a family too, if they're okay with it.

Emmet did casual date for a while, but how found out most people only liked him because he was 'famous'. He literally isn't, and the attention him and his brother get are solely from their talents as trainers or their friendship with Elesa. They don't do anything to bring attention to themselves. Well, Ingo doesn't. Emmet doesn't do it for fame, however. These shallow connections hurt him, and his desperation for someone to share his time with. He stopped that shortly soon after. Now he's picky with his partners, so dating is hard. They have to be down for spider children, a clingy boyfriend and weird twin moments. Not many takers there. He also wants to settle down with his partner and start a family, like Ingo. His breakups always make him emotional because he feels everything so deeply that when the well suddenly runs dry, it catches him off guard and hurts.

one of the many things you and peter have in common is being lazy. it’s sort of the basis of your friendship. you’re not the kids who drink or party or get in trouble. you play board games and eat pizza on his ripped up couch. the riskiest thing you’ve ever done is sneak into a movie.

peter was so paranoid you’d get caught, he couldn’t even pay attention. he kept whispering to you about paying the whole time. you had to drag him out by his hand after the movie ended. the next time you went to that theater, he bought an extra ticket to “make it even.”

that about put an end to your trying new things phase. you went right back to your comfy nights in pajamas. tackling each other for the remote, baking terrible cookies that you just throw out, sharing a blanket to stay warm. what also helps is that you cuddle under it.

all the fun you need is you, peter, and your love for doing nothing. may disagrees.

she’s always trying to get you two out of the apartment. in her words, it’s “unhealthy for developing teens to spend so much time cooped up inside.” peter once asked which mother’s facebook group she joined. you snickered at that. may gave you a warning look.

well, you don’t have a choice to stay in today. she’s kicking you and peter out because she has guests coming over.

“it’s girl’s night,” may tells the two of you with a satisfied smirk. she hangs her raincoat on the rack and comes into the living room. peter squints his eyes at her. “you have friends?” he sounds too surprised for your liking. you flick his arm hard enough to make him go “ouch!”

“peter, we only have, like, four friends. that’s counting ourselves,” you inform him with a laugh. peter drops his head onto your shoulder. “and i don’t need any of them but you,” he says sarcastically, rubbing his cheek on your sweatshirt. “aw, i know,” you coo and rest your head on his. may crosses her arms and shrugs.

“you should do a group play date with everyone! i haven’t heard from ned in a while,” she suggests, your eyes flicking over to peter. he’s biting back a grin. “play date?” you try to stifle a laugh when you ask. “you know what i mean. a hang out,” may nods at her better word choice. peter winces in protest.

“eh, ned will probably wanna go out somewhere. we don’t do that,” he tells may, like that’s a completely normal thing for a teenager to say. you raise a finger in agreement. she laughs in disbelief at you and peter. you’re splayed out on the couch, on a saturday, complaining about doing anything else.

“you two make me feel young.” may’s words are a joke, but her tone isn’t. “you are young, may,” you reassure her and smile a little. peter says nothing. his eyes become hooded as he settles into you more. “look at you two, like some old married couple,” may gestures to you from where she’s standing. she smiles this time.

peter’s face gets hot from the mention of you being a couple. your heart skips a couple of beats. you’re pretty sure he can tell from how close he is.

“do whatever you want, just not here,” she gets back to the real conversation. peter hides his entire face in your shoulder as a form of protest. you pat his back. “and not each other. unless you’re safe,” may adds. “may, please. no,” he groans out, positive he’s all red now. you blink at her in horror.

may knows what she’s doing. peter isn’t the most subtle person, especially not about liking someone. she’s learned all the signs that her nephew is falling. he’s falling for you. she sees it in you, too. the way your eyes soften when they meet peter’s, how fast you are to hug him back or beam at the silly things he says.

you two spend so much time apart from your other friends, you basically are a couple. you’re just not old or married. the only thing you need is a push to realize that.

“ok, we’re gonna go now,” peter decides and pulls away from you. “god bless,” you say only so he can hear. he chuckles at that, you getting up from the couch. giving him a knowing smile, you grab one of his hands. he lets you pull him to his feet while exhaling. he’s already exhausted. may watches and shakes her head.

peter walks up to give her a quick hug. “enjoy girl’s night. love you,” he murmurs as she squeezes him tight. even though they tease each other a lot, their relationship is really sweet. it’s very telling how a guy treats his mother. well, aunt in this case. that thought has always been in the back of your mind.

“have fun!” you grin at may when her and peter pull apart. he comes back over to you and tugs on your sleeve. “thanks, kids. we’ll be done around eleven,” she lets you know. you’re already getting your shoes on and ready to leave. eleven is a while from now.

“don’t forget an umbrella! it’s drizzling!” may calls after you two. peter grabs hers that’s leaning against the front door. it’s pink with purple polka dots. you giggle at that. “hey, i like pink,” he defends himself and opens the door, letting you out first. you raise your hands in defense, leaving the apartment.

peter waves at may one last time. “good luck, peter,” she tells him once you reach the stairs. he furrows both eyebrows. “good luck with what?” “you’ll see,” may raises her own eyebrows in a way that’s all too familiar to peter. he calls it her face of wisdom.

still confused, peter heads out. he finds you at the bottom of the stairs. you shove your hands in your pockets and push against the door to open it. peter meets you outside, twirling the umbrella between his fingers.

“is there anywhere you wanna go?” he asks as you start to walk. you’re just going down the block for now. “back upstairs,” you sigh out. “i wish. not an option, though,” peter puffs some air out of his cheeks. you fumble to pull up your hood. he easily reaches over and does it for you.

“thanks,” you say quietly. “you’re welcome,” peter pats the top of your head for emphasis. “we could just walk around.” “until eleven o’clock? that’s five hours from now,” you laugh out, adjusting your hoodie to block your face. disappointment crosses over his features.

“should’ve brought my suit,” he mutters mostly to himself. linking your arm with his, your eyes widen. “i’m not trusting you to swing me around in this weather.” his bicep flexes when your arm wraps around his own. “what? i’ve done it before, y/n/n. on patrol.” you turn your head towards him.

“didn’t you get hurt last time?” you already know the answer. “sprained wrist and a few cuts,” he grumbles, you humming because you’re right. he’d called you in tears when he got home, scared he broke something. you reminded him he would heal soon and stayed on the phone until he calmed down.

that ended up being the whole night. you’re probably the most supportive of peter being spider-man. you of course worry about the toll it takes, but you understand why he does it. the least you can do is be there for him while he navigates the superhero world. not talk him out of it or scold him for making mistakes, be there.

that’s why he loves his lazy days with you so much. they’re his break, his escape from what he lies awake worrying about most nights. you’ve seen what he has to go through, so you respect that. whatever he needs to do to unwind is fine by you. as long as you get to do it with him.

“then you couldn’t patrol for weeks. you could barely hold a pencil.” your other arm sneaks around his. they’re both hugging him now. “you had to be my note taker,” peter reminisces, a smile making its way onto his face. “that sucked, man. you’re such a perfectionist about them,” you breathe out.

peter flips the umbrella around in a show-off kind of way. “you don’t complain when i send them to you.” he sounds so cocky you can’t help but roll your eyes. he isn’t wrong, though. “whatever. seriously, where should we go?” “uh,” peter’s eyes scan the block for inspiration. they land on a man carrying takeout.

“dinner? not at a restaurant since we’re in sweats,” he adds the last part so you don’t have to. “ooh, let’s go to panera,” you happily squeeze his arm. peter quirks an eyebrow at you. “you’re always hungry after.” “so? we can get dessert, too. we have a while.” that makes his heart flutter. a while with you.

“cool, cool, cool,” he sings to you, leaning into your side as you walk. you giggle and push at his shoulder. “i think we can make it there before the rain picks up.” there’s a clap of thunder right after he says that, like something out of a movie. it’s followed by a heavier rain coming down on you two. you pull at the strings of your hoodie to keep it tighter on your head.

“jinxed it,” you remark, both of you stopping so peter can open the umbrella. “ugh,” he grunts out. his lower lip is between his teeth while he undoes the velcro. he pushes down and watches as the umbrella springs open for you two. “here, c’mere,” peter welcomes you under as he holds it above your heads.

it doesn’t quite fit you both since it’s only meant for one person. you forgot he took may’s. the two of you have to squish together so you can avoid the rain, which is pitter pattering down hard on the sidewalk.

you’re comfortable under here with him. the freezing cold weather outside of the umbrella is hardly an issue anymore.

peter turns to face you, letting out a breathless laugh. “you can take off your hood now.” your arms slip from around his. you remove it from your head and give him a toothy grin. it’s one that’s meant to be over exaggerated. “there’s that pretty face,” peter’s voice gets quieter. unlike what you did, that wasn’t a joke.

your pretty face loses its smile. you’re suddenly very aware of how close peter is to you.

you can see the faint scar on his chin from when he banged it into a wall in your living room. he’d ran straight into it during your two person game of hide and seek. yes, you still play that. it was gushing blood for half an hour.

there are also the thousands of freckles dotting his face, the ones you only notice by looking at him super hard. you try to count them whenever you get bored. peter stares back at you while you fall in love with every tiny detail about him.

he takes the time to admire your lips, not just because they look really kissable right now. because of every curious expression they press into when he does something you can’t believe. your eyes, that he feels a sense of safety and honesty and familiarity every time he looks into. he finds them and feels like he’s home.

“peter?” you speak up after a few moments. your tone is hesitant, as if whatever you’re going to ask will change what you have forever. that’s because it might. it’s silent except for the sound of the rain hitting his umbrella. peter finally answers, almost in a whisper. “yeah?”

“i... i think,” you clear your throat before going on. his eyes trail down to your lips again, then back up to your twinkling ones. even on a gloomy day like this, they could light up the whole sky. “i think i love you,” you get out, a hand over your racing heart. peter gives you a small but sure nod. “i think i love you, too.”

he takes a step closer to you, if that’s even possible. his hand without the umbrella comes up to hold your cheek. you watch as he uses his thumb to wipe away a few stray rain droplets. your head tilts to the side, lips parted on instinct. peter leans in until his lips just brush yours, letting you decide what comes next.

you choose to close the space between you two. his eyes squeeze shut, whole face scrunched up when he kisses back. this is a release of all the emotions he’s been holding in that he didn’t even realize he had. you slip into a rhythm, using the angle to move your lips against peter’s.

his hand drops from your cheek to your jaw to support you while you kiss. your own hands grab his biceps, fingers pressing into him, depesrate to have him in your arms. peter lets out a content sigh against your lips before detaching them. it’s not for long. he comes right back in after taking a breath.

you get one long peck from him, then another that’s softer than the last. you give him a short kiss back, lips curving into a smile when this one ends. peter’s thumb smooths over your jawline while he searches for your eyes. he grins at you and tightens his grip on the umbrella handle. he’s surprised it didn’t blow away in the midst of your mini makeout.

“i definitely love you, peter,” you state so genuinely, hands on his shoulders now. that has to be peter’s favorite sentence he’s ever heard. the most beautiful combination of words, said by you to him. “i definitely love you, y/n,” peter agrees, punctuating his statement with one last kiss. you haven’t stopped smiling when his lips meet the corner of yours.

may was right about two things that night. you needed the umbrella for that huge storm, but it did more than protect your from the rain. it also brought you and peter together in a way. the second thing she was right about was that peter loves you, and every feeling he has mirror yours for him.

actually, she was right about three things. you two have to get out of the apartment more often.
