Training logs - Entry #1 05-31-24
We’re still in the early days, only three sessions in, but I’m already very pleased with my results. My subject is overly submissive to me, careful of any misstep or action that could potentially lead me to be displeased. In time we’ll work on instilling confidence in their behavior, as I do not want fear to be her primary motivation. I’ve begun to install a couple triggers, including “Trust Me, Pup” and “Treats!”
Trust Me, Pup This trigger was designed to encourage total submission and trust, a bit of a Mental Off-Switch, if you will. Using this trigger is intended to instill devotion, subservience, and blind obedience, it is the groundwork for my long-term goal of teaching her to trust my words over her own. It also encourages trust in a more kindhearted way, reminding the subject of my own devotion to her. She is to trust that I mean what I say, and trust my commitment to our training. Utilizing this trigger helps put the subject’s mind at ease, which in turn, allows me to have more control over her. If she is worried and anxious, she’ll be distracted from our work, and that’s not conducive to training. I felt this was an important first step of our work because I want to lay a very solid framework for trust, obedience, and total release of her reservations. This trigger serves me well in use whenever I can tell she is feeling insecure or beginning to question my decisions, although I’m finding that, far earlier than anticipated, there is a near complete lack of doubt in me. She trusts me immensely. This bodes well for our progress.
Treats! This is the second trigger installed into the subject. This one was intended to be more light-hearted, a fun and pleasurable way to lead my subject into the next step of our work together, but ended up adopting a bit of an edge that I’m pleasantly surprised by.
The original concept was that whenever this trigger was used, it would send a wave of pleasure into the subject, while also increasing her devotion to me. When she receives a treat, she is to feel a burst of overwhelming euphoria, followed by the desire to obey my every word. When discussing with another trainer, we decided it may be interesting to allow this trigger to be used by any individual who wants to participate in the training of this subject. I elaborated on this concept by telling the subject I was giving a bag of these special treats to anyone who she felt she could trust, in addition to the addendum that these treats would fail to work if there was a lack of trust, meaning she would not be forced to obey any who would hold negative intentions. Adding in safeties in this fashion helps to further cement a subject’s trust in their Owner, as they can rest assured knowing that their Owner has considered all outcomes and will protect their best interest. We also fashioned in a note that this treat trigger would have an addictive twist to it. The more treats this pup receives, the more she wants, furthering her desire for that euphoric sensation, and in turn, solidifying her total devotion to the user.
My subject did inform me that while this trigger is effective, she finds that it takes a few in order to stack the pleasurable feeling, so I do intend on dropping her again in order to reinforce a sudden, overwhelming, but also short lived nature to this trigger, which will in turn heighten her desire for more treats in an attempt to chase the pleasure. I’m pleased by her ability to communicate the efficacy of my methods, it allows me to adjust as needed. I’m lucky to have such a receptive subject.
To close out this entry, I want to again emphasize how satisfied I am over the complete change in demeanor this pup has shown in the short time we’ve been working together. Considering her near-immediate devotion, along with the plans I have in store-- to say that I’m excited would be an understatement.

ngl i think there are a lot of cool/interesting things to say about the sex scene between jayce and mel, but i am not wild about justifying it by pointing to its plot relevance. its presence IS justified, i just think the furthering-the-plot argument is using the wrong framework to understand the function of sex in media at all and kind of belies a deeply conservative impulse about what sex is or does or what it's for in art. and like i don't really blame anyone for this. i think this attitude of 'well it has to be plot relevant to be present' particularly in film is born partly out of a reaction to a long history of film & tv having gross attitudes about women and very unpleasant assumptions about roles in sex.
in tv in particular, hbo comes to mind as having been the only prestige network for a really long time where nudity/semi-explicit sex was permissible. and like while it was/is permissible, a lot of hbo productions deploy sex in a way that feels deeply unimaginative and misogynistic. obviously hbo isn't the sole culprit. the whole concept of the male gaze was developed bc of film's treatment of women, and the games industry stacks on top of that by being so misogynistic in its sexualization of women that it feels like a joke. so i get why people balk at that — i do too — but these media properties and outlets shouldn't be the gold standard for sex in media anyway and the solution to them shouldn't be "well sex is only Allowed when it serves the very utilitarian and quasi-calvinist purpose of furthering the plot".
if nothing else, sex is an important part of life and connection for many people. including it in art to demonstrate or reflect that fact is ideally something normal, or could be if we in the united states could at least deconstruct our neuroses about sex. my one friend always says that sex in itself is a kind of character study, which is valuable regardless of how much it furthers the plot. you can even see this with jayce and mel! people joke a bunch about jayce being the little spoon and not to be like too annoyingly into close readings of a sex scene but the entire arc of his encounter with mel tells you a lot about both of them as people that arguably could not really be presented in any other context. mel initiates but she does so in a moment of vulnerability, right after talking about her family, a major pain point in her life (and not lol after she supposedly like...bamboozled him with Sexual Allure and alcohol or whatever people say). jayce follows her lead for a while (she kisses him first, he is happy to have her push him onto the bed) and eventually breaks from this pattern to go down on her, not to demand something for himself.
either this says something about him as a person or says something about gender and expectations for sexual courtship overall in the world of arcane. like in our world men who "submit" (lol) to women's sexual desires or who give primacy to a woman's sexual interest are still framed kind of as a joke in mainstream US culture even though 'mean mommy dommy' jokes abound on the internet. but is that also true in piltover & zaun? is jayce the exception to the rule or is he in keeping with the rule? we kind of don't know ironically bc we have no other information about in-world sex in the whole of season 1. even with the brothel, there are open-ended questions: is trading sex for money illegal? is it illegal in piltover but a weird grey-market activity in zaun? what kinds of sexual mores exist in piltover, zaun, or both, and what relationships to people have to them? vi describes the brothel as 'the one place where all the secrets are spilled' and that seems like it's in keeping with how civilian clients are about sex work irl in the united states but that's more or less all we have to work with.
i'm not saying arcane should seek to answer all these things or to deliver a complete taxonomy on in-world sex and sexuality. the story is dealing with other themes. it just seems strange to me to laud arcane for it's skill in efficient but well-textured worldbuilding and then to abjure the possibility of the presence of sex outside of plot-relevant reasons when sex would tell us as much about the world as the touch that smoking is a sign of power in the undercity.
if the concern is that somehow any non-plot-sex would be too gross in its treatment of women, i guess i would say that it was amanda overton who advocated for the sex scene in the first place, not alex yee or christian linke. so like why not trust that she may be capable of writing/directing further instances of sex without defaulting to something unpleasant?
and if the objection is "well i don't want to be made to feel horny in an otherwise non-horny experience" my answer would be that the point of sex in media can be communicative sometimes, not always titillating. going back to jayce and mel and character studies, i wasn't (and i don't think most people were?) suddenly horny during that scene. i thought the literal art direction was weird, but mostly what i took from the scene about these two characters was that their mode of relating to one another was actually very tender. it cemented that mel was falling in love with jayce, and that the we the audience were supposed to understand their sex as sweet, not particularly provocative or designed to fulfill an assumed sexual fantasy on our behalf.
but there's also no reason to assume that any two other characters in the story would have sex in that tenor, even if they were in love. there's no reason to assume that any two other characters might NOT have sweet sex outside the context of love. the only way we could know that is if it were to occur on screen, and getting a greater diversity of sex and sexual encounters on screen requires the audience to be open to sex not just as a normal part of life, but as a semiotic object in art that has value beyond driving the plot forward.
tl;dr it's nice that the sex in arcane had some greater impact on the plot mechanics, but i don't think that's the primary value of its presence and i'm glad it's there with or without it mattering to the plot. it's unlikely but i hope s2 can give us a fuller picture of how other characters relate to sex as well.

staring so kindly at your sluglang post,, as someone working on a language as well this looks fantastic (and is also. super organized compared to mine BHAHAH) Any tips for putting together a language? Like resources on how to go about it, or notes? /genq
You are staring kindly... (thank you)
As for tips... Wikipedia is actually one of my biggest, most useful tools, because I love to read articles about grammatical concepts, and they will usually have a varaiety of examples of use if you can figure out how to parse the academic language. There are some core ideas that pop up all over the place crosslinguistically, like case marking or converbs, and you can get a lot from learning how other languages might parse the same idea, both how they handle the idea grammatically and what kind of metaphorical language might be involved; like how in Scottish Gaelic, to say you have something, you say it's 'at' you, or how it doesn't have an exact equivalent of English's infinitive, or how Mongolian has so many word endings that convey meaning, and a bunch of them are literally endings stacked on top of other endings.
There's also really good conlang youtubers, like David Peterson, the one who made Dothraki and other pop media conlangs, Artifexian, Biblaridion. They have videos on both interesting grammatical concepts that don't exist in english AND how to integrate them into conlangs. Davide Peterson especially has interesting videos on things like sound changes, vowel harmony, phonological concepts that can really help shape your language and bring a degree of naturalism if that's what you're looking for.
Etymology can be extremely informative though, and really help you to understand exactly how creative people have gotten with language over the past thousands of years. Etymonline is a great website for that. Did you know that the word "next" was originally literally "nearest"? Or that that the suffix "be-" was originally "by", so words like "before" actually meant "by the fore", and very often these meanings are metaphorically extended to the way we use them today. It's great for helping to develop very important words that can be structural to your language, so that you're not just trying to raw make up a new word with no basis every time.
Aside from that, there's no single source I go to for making conlangs. Everything is on a case by case basis. Something that has been really helpful for me is constantly writing example sentences and finding things to write about, because similar to translating existing texts, it forces me to reckon with the way my conlang works, figure out how to convey certain ideas (or whether or not the language can convey the idea at all).
Usually I'll have a few languages that I keep in mind for inspiration for any given project and if I'm stumped or need an idea, I'll actually look up learning resources for those languages. My slugcat language has had me looking up a lot of "How to say..." in Korean, Arabic, Japanese Filipino, a little bit of Indonesian? Some Russian for verb stuff. Once I find resources, I spend a bit of time dissecting how it works in those languages and figure out how that can fit in the existing framework of my own project, or if it's something I'd even want in the project at all.
Once I have an idea, I'll just start iterating on it, usually on paper, basically brainstorming how the sentence structure and sounds might work until I find something that is both sonically satisfying and logically sound within the existing framework. If I'm feeling extra spicy, I might try to consider how the culture and priorities of the speakers might shape the development of the language. The important thing while doing this is, just like brainstorming, to be unafraid to keep throwing ideas onto the page no matter how unviable or nonsensical it may seem in your head. You NEED to experiment and find what doesn't work or else your brain will be too clogged to find out what does. Exercising your pen will help you get into the mindset of someone using the language (because you are), it'll help you form connections to other parts of the language you've already developed, and once you've developed enough, the language will almost start writing itself.
I've actually had some really interesting interactions happen my scuglang between the archaic system of suffixes, the position word system, and the triconsonantal root system, which actually gave rise to an entire system of metaphorical extension, letting speakers use phrases like "at a crossing of" or "at a leaving of" to mean across or away and also talk about concurrent events like "He talked while eating noodles" (He, at an eating of noodles, talked).
Anyway, I know I got kind of scattered but these are some of the big parts of how I approach conlanging! If I have questions or needs, I look to other languages, find learning resources, apply it, and then ask more questions. Spend time with your language and get familiar with it. There's the time I read "Ergativity" by Robert Dixon, but reading literal textbooks is not a requirement for conlanging. You just need to chip away at it and keep asking question.
Here's some photos of my own conlanging notes so you can see how serious I am when I say iterating and brainstorming are extremely helpful. You need to be throwing shit on the paper. I will handwrite three pages just to contradict myself on the next because those three pages were important for forming the final idea.

Buckminster Fuller: Synergetics and Systems
Tumblr media
Synergetics
Synergetics, concept introduced by Buckminster Fuller, is an interdisciplinary study of geometry, patterns, and spatial relationships that provides a method and a philosophy for understanding and solving complex problems. The term “synergetics” comes from the Greek word “synergos,” meaning “working together.” Fuller’s synergetics is a system of thinking that seeks to understand the cooperative interactions among parts of a whole, leading to outcomes that are unpredicted by the behavior of the parts when studied in isolation.
Fuller’s understanding of systems relied upon the concept of synergy. With the emergence of unpredicted system behaviors by the behaviors of the system’s components, this perspective invites us to transcend the limitations of our immediate perception and to perceive larger systems, and to delve deeper to see relevant systems within the situation. It beckons us to ‘tune-in’ to the appropriate systems as we bring our awareness to a particular challenge or situation.
He perceived the Universe as an intricate construct of systems. He proposed that everything, from our thoughts to the cosmos, is a system. This perspective, now a cornerstone of modern thinking, suggests that the geometry of systems and their models are the keys to deciphering the behaviors and interactions we witness in the Universe.
In his “Synergetics: Explorations in the Geometry of Thinking” Fuller presents a profound exploration of geometric thinking, offering readers a transformative journey through a four-dimensional Universe. Fuller’s work combines geometric logic with metaphors drawn from human experience, resulting in a framework that elucidates concepts such as entropy, Einstein’s relativity equations, and the meaning of existence. Within this paradigm, abstract notions become lucid, understandable, and immediately engaging, propelling readers to delve into the depths of profound philosophical inquiry.
Fuller’s framework revolves around the principle of synergetics, which emphasizes the interconnectedness and harmony of geometric relationships. Drawing inspiration from nature, he illustrates that balance and equilibrium are akin to a stack of closely packed oranges in a grocery store, highlighting the delicate equilibrium present in the Universe. By intertwining concepts from visual geometry and technical design, Fuller’s work demonstrates his expertise in spatial understanding and mathematical prowess. The book challenges readers to expand their perspectives and grasp the intricate interplay between shapes, mathematics, and the dimensions of the human mind.
At its core, “Synergetics” presents a philosophical inquiry into the nature of existence and the human thought process. Fuller’s use of neologisms and expansive, thought-provoking ideas sparks profound contemplation. While some may find the book challenging due to its complexity, it is a testament to Fuller’s intellectual prowess and his ability to offer unique insights into the fundamental workings of the Universe, pushing the boundaries of human knowledge and transforming the fields of design, mathematics, and philosophy .
When applied to cognitive science, the concept of synergetics offers a holistic approach to understanding the human mind. It suggests that cognitive processes, rather than being separate functions, are interconnected parts of a whole system that work together synergistically. This perspective aligns with recent developments in cognitive science that view cognition as a complex, dynamic system. It suggests that our cognitive abilities emerge from the interaction of numerous mental processes, much like the complex patterns that emerge in physical and biological systems studied under synergetics.
In this context, geometry serves as a language to describe this cognitive architecture. Just as the geometric patterns in synergetic structures reveal the underlying principles of organization, the ‘geometric’ arrangement of cognitive processes could potentially reveal the principles that govern our cognitive abilities. This perspective extends Fuller’s belief in the power of geometry as a tool for understanding complex systems, from the physical structures he designed to the very architecture of our minds. It suggests that by studying the ‘geometry’ of cognition, we might gain insights into the principles of cognitive organization and the nature of human intelligence.
Tumblr media
Systems
Fuller’s philosophy underscored that systems are distinct entities, each with a unique shape that sets them apart from their surroundings. He envisioned each system as a tetrahedron, a geometric form with an inside and an outside, connected by a minimum of four corners or nodes. These nodes, connected by what Fuller referred to as relations, serve as the sinews that hold the system together. These relations could manifest as flows, forces, or fields. Fuller’s philosophy also emphasized that systems are not isolated entities. At their boundaries, every node is linked to its surroundings, and all system corners are ‘leaky’, either brimming with extra energy or in need of energy.
Fuller attributed the properties and characteristics of systems to what he called generalized principles. These are laws of the Universe that hold true everywhere and at all times. For instance, everything we perceive is a specific configuration of energy or material, and the form of this configuration is determined by these universal principles.
Fuller’s philosophy also encompassed the idea that every situation is a dance of interacting systems. He encouraged us to explore the ways in which systems interact within and with each other. He saw each of us as part of the cosmic dance, continually coupling with other systems. This coupling could be as loose as the atoms of air in a room, or as flexible as molecules of water flowing.
We find that precession is completely regenerative one brings out the other. So I gave you the dropping the stone in the water, and the wave went out that way. And this way beget that way. And that way beget that way. And that’s why your circular wave emanates. Once you begin to get into “precession” you find yourself understanding phenomena that you’ve seen a stone falling in the water all of your life, and have never really known why the wave does just what it does.
Fuller’s concept of precession, or systems coupling, is a testament to his deep understanding of systems and their interactions. He described how we sometimes orbit a system, such as a political movement or an artistic method. Our orbit remains stable when the force that attracts us is dynamically balanced by the force that propels us away. This understanding of precession allows us to comprehend phenomena that we have observed all our lives, yet never truly understood why they behave as they do. Fuller’s teachings on systems and their inherent geometry continue to illuminate our understanding of the Universe and our place within it.

Literally saw someone say that transandrophobia isn’t a valid intersection of oppression and... Okay, regardless of your feelings about that specific term, I know it’s under debate in the community.......
There’s no such thing as “valid intersectionality”.
Intersectionality is literally the study of how identities interact and create different forms of oppression or privilege. Of note is that intersections of identities aren’t fucking tokens stacked on top of each other earning you points. Intersectionality doesn’t exist to measure who is more or less oppressed, it is literally not capable of measuring that, because there’s no metric by which to do it.
“Straight white American ablebodied neurotypical cis man” is exactly as valid an intersection of identities as “lesbian Jewish American disabled fat neurodivergent nonbinary intersex person”. I’ve just described two actual related people there, this isn’t making up people for the sake of examples. Both are sociological frameworks equally worthy of study and understanding, but each of those intersections changes how those people interact with the society they’re a part of.
The point being... even if transandrophobia is ultimately not as... I don’t know what words you want to use to disqualify this concept, dangerous, deadly, whatever... and I frankly don’t think we have the data to support that... you don’t get to tell people that because the way they experience transness is not the way you do, their experience of transphobia is therefore invalid.
This is the whole point of intersectionality, friend. They feel it differently because they’re in a different social position by the nature of the confluence of so many different things, but... it doesn’t mean it doesn’t exist. It doesn’t mean it doesn’t exist, doesn’t cause harm. Maybe let the people experiencing a thing tell you what they are seeing, define it and recognize it. It’s fucking wild that anyone who’s not a transmasc person thinks they have the right to tell transmasc people the very thing that makes up their life just isn’t valid because it doesn’t match up with their experience of transphobia and therefore isn’t transphobia. Different demographics experience the same oppression in different ways. That’s the whole goddamn point of intersectionality, and you telling people that they don’t sit at a “valid intersection” of oppression to identify and call out what is specifically happening to them is just fucking...
I’m going to lose my shit. You literally don’t understand the sociological framework that you are trying to use to disqualify them from being a part of the discourse. Sit down and shut up until you even know what the terms mean.

First of all, hi, how have you been? :)
So there is this Sasusaku account on Twitter who loves to use novels to defend their ship. I know, nothing new.
But this person recently made a thread to debunk the idea that novels are not canon, and their thesis was that every work published by Shueisha is canon because they have ownership of Naruto; therefore, saying the novels are not canon is the same as saying the Naruto manga isn't canon either (according to them).
I know you have talked about this before, so I apologize if this ask comes off as repetitive and/or annoying, but I was just interested in knowing your opinion since you know more about these topics, so feel free to ignore this ask if you want to!
Have a nice day ^^
Hi! Doing alright thank you ^^!
“every work published by Shueisha is canon because they have ownership of Naruto; therefore, saying the novels are not canon is the same as saying the Naruto manga isn't canon either”
Oh yes, of course.
Which means that aside from the novels that retcon the original, the…
Random, OOC storylines in games
Third-party interpretations, subjectively written data-books or fan-books
Merch, promotional art and other marketing material
Filler episodes/Movies
Dash generation Manga or whatever
Sasuke- and Lee’s chibi-adventures Manga
etc—
...are also all canon.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Because "Shueisha published it".
Tumblr media
Please make it make sense.
“But this person recently made a thread to debunk the idea that novels are not canon, and their thesis was that every work published by Shueisha is canon because they have ownership of Naruto; therefore, saying the novels are not canon is the same as saying the Naruto manga isn't canon either ”
No.
This is an incredibly flawed argument, because it’s already a non-negotiable fact that the Naruto Manga is canon. It just is. No question about it whatsoever.
CANON=
The Naruto Manga is the authoritative framework that is the source material. This holds things like the rules, core elements of the story like: characters, themes, messages, the author’s intent etc- And fundamental canon holds the most significance of all within a franchise and provides consistency to the fictional universe in case publishing companies decide to expand on it..
By nature its intent is to reflect the original author’s vision; the Naruto Manga = Kishimoto’s vision.
And everything that doesn’t align with it is simply not canon.
Tumblr media
Therefore the only thing left to argue about is whether legal “ownership” by itself can determine whether something is canon or not. But that isn’t how you measure it alone because it ignores actual canon. I mean yeah, who would’ve thought you’d have to look at canon in order to determine whether something is canon??? 🤯 Wild, huh?
So no: you can’t and that’s not how it works.
Everything Shueisha decides or publishes through their distributors is official.
It is official because they are copyright-holders and own the intellectual property (IP) at large which has many different aspects to it. They do own most of them in order to manage it all.
Tumblr media
But not everything that is official is canon.
These are two entirely different things.
In fact, the only thing they themselves consider to truly be part of the ‘official’ timeline (which would establish ‘canon’ if it wasn’t such a retcon either) on the official site is Brt. It’s technically canon because chapter 700 exists, though it still makes no sense as it doesn’t stack up against the other 699 chapters and it still means nothing in terms of actual storytelling. Alas:
Tumblr media
And even if they did claim ‘canon’, it’s only as significant as the source makes it out to be. Not the amount of profit they can make because they are legally allowed to exploit the work as much as possible through distributions, adaptations, translations, trademarks at JPO and handing out licenses left and right to third-party organizations (‘Namco Bandai’ for example) which then get their own rights or having entire licensing devisions handle individual IP regarding characters (yes your little blorbo is intellectual property) who manage it in terms of advertisements, marketing/promotion and merchandising (think about these pop-up shops), like: ShoPro
Tumblr media Tumblr media
*Shueisha used to be owned by Shogakukan if I’m not mistaken and then separated at some point
It’s a business. And an insanely large one at that. They own so much more than you’d think, it’s a HUGE company (2nd largest publisher in Japan I believe) that doesn’t only own multiple magazines like Shonen Jump and its Manga, they also published the ‘weekly playboy’ and publishes things like many (light/erotic/graphic) novels and nsfw picture-books/manga etc. They will do anything as a business to make sure to profit commercially as is legally permitted within the established contract that varies per published IP and which they’re incredibly tight-lipped about.
In the case of Naruto’s franchise, information that came after the Manga constantly contradicts not just actual canon, but also each other. Contradictions can’t all be canon or equally as significant at the same time because it needs a source— which we have; the Naruto Manga. It’s what holds the most significance.
That’s how you measure whether something is actually canon or not.
“… therefore, saying the novels are not canon is the same as saying the Naruto manga isn't canon either”
Besides, if this was true, then canon wouldn’t even exist. Jfc.
And yes, you can expand on canon like I said. That’s the whole point. It indicates a framework that allows publishing companies to stay consistent and keep their audience happy if they care to do so. But consistency in story or consistency in business doesn’t mean the same thing because it's motivated by two entirely different motives. The willingness to sacrifice artistic work and its audience in order to profit from it financially literally kills creativity in the industry as well as opportunities and it gives them way too much power. The stuff that’s coming out lately is garbage and it’s mostly thanks to people pointing fingers at someone random with their eyes closed, unconcerned about the consequences, and grant them and the business the authority to decide whatever the hell they want about things that already exist— and it never improves. (I’m always free to rant more about it but yk.)
Like the person you’ve quoted, the motive isn’t to actually convince people that their terrible novels are canon, it’s that canon should give a ship in this case some significance when there wasn’t in the first place. To "fix" something that didn't need any fixing. It has nothing to do with the actual story.
But canon does because it just is.
Non-negotiable.
Oh! you have a nice day too🌷 I apologize for the rants ><

for my new ttrpg campaign, Choir (scifi, multi-system, set in a homebrewed universe based on the machineries of empire books' setting), we've been playing a bunch of worldbuilding games in preparation, including one- or two-shots for each PC to play out specific moments from their backstories. (for more general campaign info, see this post!)
anyway, i thought i'd write up brief summaries as to how these backstory games have gone, because they've been a blast and i highly recommend doing this for a campaign that'll involve deep character exploration.
1. Love Triangle in a Death Cult Regency
PC: Idona Noci (they/he)
TTRPG: Good Society, "a collaborative regency rpg that seeks to capture the heart, and the countenance, of Jane Austen’s work."
Backstory situation: How teenage Noci chose duty over love.
Present-campaign Noci is a trained torturer and professional indoctrinator, but they were just a teen once who had to choose between an arranged marriage or a continued relationship with a lower-class boyfriend. We played out one week set 25 years pre-campaign to show how Noci chose marriage and responsibility over love. The setting was a space station that floods with time-keeping tides, set during a week-long celebration of the faction's revered saints. Good Society was such a fun vehicle to play out the intricacies of a death cult space society, and the two-shot was honestly so moving???? i have not stopped thinking about it???? A++++.
2. Chase Through Space
PC: Moment's Pallor (she/zie)
TTRPG: HOUNDs, "a dice-stacking roleplaying game about the bond between a mech pilot and their robot companion."
Backstory situation: How Pallor was caught trying to run away with a stolen, sentient spaceship.
Present-day Pallor is a coder, a scientist, has already been executed once, and doesn't understand why it didn't stick. We changed HOUNDs to be about a computer coder/hacker and a sentient space-moth that had been harnessed and augmented into a ship. Five years prior to the campaign, Pallor connected to said moth, realized that it was sentient, liberated it and tried to escape the empire. Zie was caught and executed for this, then brought back to life under mysterious experimental means. HOUNDs was so much fun and did a great job ramping up the tension of the chase and allowing touching, calm moments too. (We play online, and used Tabletop Simulator on steam for the dice-stacking, which worked very well!) I love this mothgirl and i can't wait until zie can be with hir moth again wahhhh.
3. Divorce Negotiations
PC: Attra Rose (she/her)
TTRPG System: A Long Night in the Mech Bay, "A TTRPG about Relationships Reforged in Conflict."
Backstory situation: Rose and her wife (an NPC) negotiate a divorce while reminiscing about their relationship.
One year before the campaign starts, Rose got divorced (but they will be on the same crew once the campaign starts, oops). We used an albeit incredibly hacked version of LNitMB to play out the seven years of Rose and Han's relationship, from meeting up until and through the divorce negotiations. This was mostly accomplished by completely rewriting all the questions so that they were specific to this couple, and reversing which kinds of questions were asked first, so that it started with happy memories before we entered The Agonies. We also added NPC opportunities and setting description stuff so that the other two players could contribute, but the basic framework was still really useful for this kind of exploration, and I love the idea of starting a brand-new campaign with scar tokens lollllll. anyway i am unwell and having a GREAT time.

Tips for Landing Your First Entry-Level Developer Job | Resources ✨
Tumblr media
I saw a tweet by @reactive_dude on Twitter where he talked about tips for junior developers landing their first jobs and I thought I would share them here as well, it might help someone. I think these are handy, especially the projects and open-source tips. I also read through the comments and added some of the tips from there to the list. Enjoy!
Tumblr media
Have an active LinkedIn account
Add as many recruiters to your LinkedIn network as you can
To add recruiters on LinkedIn: introduce yourself in 1-2 sentences, and say you're open for entry-level jobs, there is no need to overthink this step
Most recruiters will accept your network request even without reading your message
Build 1-2 strong projects where you use/build CRUD APIs - For example a real-time chat app, an app with auth where you can log in and manage recipes/notes/tasks/whatever...
If you're a front-end dev, there are a lot of free APIs available, you can make use of these and build client apps
Make it easy to check your projects and code
This means open source on GitHub and one-click access to your project (without a complicated login/registration process)
Make a huge effort to make your resume as polished and professional as possible.
Build a portfolio website
Apply to as many jobs as possible, as soon as they're listed
Don't feel bad about rejections or if you're not getting any responses
Contribute to open source/build your own projects in public daily
More than building CRUD projects, you should show off your contribution to open-source. Whether it's a small package or a utility website for a framework that they use - stuff like that stands out more than another Student Management System.
Don't shoot too high, apply with local companies
Fully remote international companies usually hire only experience developers
Network with developers who can help you get hired in their company
If possible, attend local meetups/conferences/events to network with other devs
Share your progress and projects online!

Amidst the ongoing legal jabs from both Twitter and Elon Musk’s legal teams, it becomes pretty easy to lose the narrative. But while media coverage would likely give the impression that Musk is simply trying to weasel out of a $44 billion deal, the two parties’ conflict is actually based on a key issue: Twitter bots.
Twitter has maintained that less than 5% of its users are spam or fake accounts, even in its filings to the US Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC). Musk has scoffed at this estimate as the Tesla CEO believes that the number of bots on the social media platform is far higher. An estimate from Dan Woods, the Global Head of Intelligence at F5 and a former FBI special agent specializing in cybersecurity, suggests that Musk’s hunch is spot-on.
In a post on F5’s official website, Woods, who also worked for the CIA as a technical operations officer specializing in cyber operations, estimated that over 80% of Twitter’s accounts are actually bots. Woods was able to come to this conclusion after analyzing the social media platform and its countermeasures against automated accounts.
“When I consider the volume and velocity of automation we’re seeing today, the sophistication of bots that a given set of incentives is likely to attract, and the relative lack of countermeasures I saw in my own research, I can only come to one conclusion: In all likelihood, more than 80% of Twitter accounts are actually bots. This, of course, is my opinion,” Woods wrote.
The former FBI agent noted that bots are generally designed to accomplish a goal. In Twitter’s case, a key goal is to gain followers. More followers mean that an account becomes more influential, which could potentially be a security risk. What’s interesting is that there’s a means to get bots for Twitter, with countless entities offering Twitter accounts, followers, likes, and retweets for a fee. Some are even offered in the dark or deep web.
For research purposes, Woods tried these services on a Twitter account he created. And sure enough, they do work. The former FBI agent paid less than $1,000, but the account has now gained almost 100,000 followers. Woods even tried posting straight gibberish and paying a fee to have his followers retweet it — and they did. With this experience in mind, Woods took his tests further, and the results were pretty damning for Twitter’s anti-bot measures.
“I began to wonder how easy it would be to create a Twitter account using automation. I am not a programmer, but I researched automation frameworks on YouTube and Stack Overflow. Turns out, it’s easy.
“Taking my testing to the next level, over a weekend, I wrote a script that automatically creates Twitter accounts. My rather unsophisticated script was not blocked by any countermeasures. I didn’t try to change my IP address or user agent or do anything to conceal my activities. If it’s that easy for a person with limited skills, imagine how easy it is for an organization of highly skilled, motivated individuals,” Woods wrote.

What are MBTI cognitive functions, if you do feel like talking about it?
(If not, disregard!)
Omg thank you for giving me the chance to infodump, even though lol the MBTI fandom on here has been as good as dead for years :3 <3
They're basically mental processes related to your MBTI personality type, and there are eight in total: introverted sensing (short form is Si), extroverted sensing (Se), introverted intuition (Ni), extroverted intuition (Ne), introverted thinking (Ti), extroverted thinking (Te), introverted feeling (Fi) and extroverted feeling (Fe).
Each person has a dominant function, auxiliary function, tertiary function and inferior function. These four will form what's called a "function stack".
A popular analogy for this is the car model: where the dominant function is the car driver, the auxiliary is like a co-pilot, tertiary is a 10-year-old child in the back seat, and the inferior is a toddler in the back seat.
The history behind these functions is Carl Jung, back in 1921, came up with the theory of each person having four functions: one for sensing (related to sensory info), one for intuition, one for thinking, and the last for feeling. Decades later, Isabel Briggs-Myers expanded on said theory so that each of the four just stated above would be split into introverted and extroverted modes: making the number of functions a total of 8.
-------------
Now each of the 16 MBTI types has its own unique function stack:
INTJ: Dominant Ni, auxiliary Te, tertiary Fi, inferior Se. ENTJ: Dominant Te, auxiliary Ni, tertiary Se, inferior Fi. ISFP: Dominant Fi, auxiliary Se, tertiary Ni, inferior Te. ESFP: Dominant Se, auxiliary Fi, tertiary Te, inferior Ni.
ISTJ: Dominant Si, auxiliary Te, tertiary Fi, inferior Ne. ESTJ: Dominant Ni, auxiliary Te, tertiary Ne, inferior Fi. INFP: Dominant Fi, auxiliary Ne, tertiary Si, inferior Te. ENFP: Dominant Ne, auxiliary Fi, tertiary Te, inferior Si.
INTP: Dominant Ti, auxiliary Ne, tertiary Si, inferior Fe. ENTP: Dominant Ne, auxiliary Ne, tertiary Fe, inferior Si. ISFJ: Dominant Si, auxiliary Fe, tertiary Ti, inferior Ne. ESFJ: Dominant Fe, auxiliary Si, tertiary Ne, inferior Ti.
ISTP: Dominant Ti, auxiliary Se, tertiary Ni, inferior Fe. ESTP: Dominant Se, auxiliary Ti, tertiary Fe, inferior Ni. INFJ: Dominant Ni, auxiliary Fe, tertiary Ti, inferior Se. ENFJ: Dominant Fe, auxiliary Ni, tertiary Se, inferior Ti.
-----------
While it isn't at all a fixed formula, there appear to be tendencies for each of the eight functions to correspond to specific strengths and weaknesses.
E.g. because Se is the most objective function, people with dominant or auxiliary Se seem more likely to see things as they are and better respond in the moment, making them excellent e.g. athletes, paramedics or first responders, or kitchen staff.
Si is often associated with having an excellent memory and easily being able to tell when something has deviated from the norm.
Te is associated with effectiveness and efficiency, streamlining processes of getting tasks done in a system, and empirical measures.
Ti is about refining frameworks of thinking as one goes (people with a strong Ti-Ne combo are apparently excellent at chess).
If you have high Ne, it makes you great at brainstorming and similar processes.
Ni is to do with vision and finding meanings and patterns in things.
Having high Fe means you are likely good at persuasion and ensuring harmony in a group.
Fi is related to very strong personal beliefs and conviction, and being authentic.
-------------
Where it gets very interesting for me personally is what happens to these when a person's mental health is affected. Over the years, MBTI forums on the net have come up with "function loops" and "function grips".
A loop is if you lose touch with your auxiliary function, and your first (dominant) and third (tertiary) functions are caught up in a tangle with one another without the auxiliary co-pilot to break them up and get them to exist in harmony. (Here's an ancient Tumblr post listing each loop that each of the 16 types can get caught up in)
For this reason, many people underestimate just how important their auxiliary function is; in fact, some people recommend that you develop it to be just about as mature as your dominant function.
For me, an INTJ, a loop means I enter a Ni-Fi loop and it usually shows up as depression or suicidal ideation.
A grip is if your inferior function flares up because of extreme stress. It usually shows up as a particularly out-of-character mental breakdown, more so than a loop.
I've seen examples of the above, both IRL and in fiction too.
One fictional example is Emily Thorne in "Revenge", who people seem to agree on as being an ISTJ,
Tumblr media
experiencing a betrayal trauma so great that it led her to tap into her tertiary and inferior functions, making her unusually ENFP-like as she used creativity and deception to try getting justice for her father being framed for a major crime.
--------------
There's an ongoing debate about whether people actually do use all 8 functions, not just 4. This has been tied to other writings by Carl Jung about our "shadow" and how he even created archetypes for parts of said shadow, e.g. "Trickster", "Demon".
So people have discussed stuff like how our inferior function might be the gateway to our repressed shadow side, and how our shadow side could help with personal growth if we understand it better.
Shadow:
5th function, also called the Vulnerable Function or Opposing Role Function
6th, also called the Mobility Function (I think?) or Critical Parent function
7th, also called the Point of Least Resistance/blindspot, or Trickster function
8th, also called the Role/Mask or Demon function
If you take my function stack as an example, my inferior Se is what might lead to my shadow which consists of Ne as the 5th function, Ti as the 6th, Fe as the 7th, and Si at the bottom as the 8th.
From my own personal experiences I think there could be some truth in this. Where it gets handy based on stuff I've read and discussed with enthusiast groups and folks on Reddit is if we follow this theory, my 5th function works best when I am working with someone who uses it more naturally, and my 6th works best and flares up as a burst of willpower under stress (especially when no one else in the room uses that naturally). My 7th is my weakest, and it really reveals what I prioritize because its friction with my 3rd function can in fact strengthen the 3rd function, and my 8th shows up as a mask and was most likely the one that people pressured me the develop the most in my childhood leading up to my 20s.
When I've run the above by some people IRL, asking them whether the same info also applied to their own lives and circumstances, we sort of picked up on a pattern which was really cool honestly. But MBTI is probably always gonna be too "pop psychology" to be taken seriously in the world of journal articles and empirical research.
-------------
Hahaha, here's a TOH segment!
I'm gonna talk about Luz and Hunter a little:
Tumblr media
I think Luz is an ENFP, while in Hunter's case it's hella difficult to guess under all those layers of complex trauma but...if I do the math by process of elimination, he gives off Ne-blindspot vibes and might be the introverted counterpart of Eda (who gives off massive ESTP vibes), so I'd guess ISTP.
The most interesting thing which may explain how different they are as characters is how their blindspots are the opposite of one another. Which makes their interactions pretty engaging and organic.
Luz's dominant function would be Ne, and her blindspot is Ti. Hunter uses dominant Ti, with an Ne blindspot.
Luz may have slipped into an ENFP Ne-Te loop of anger when Eda is taken away from her towards the end of Season 1, and she may have slipped into an Si grip when she gradually slipped into depression after Hollow Mind.
Hunter being so distressed that he dug his own grave in Eclipse Lake may have been an ISTP Ti-Ni loop, and his Fe grip tendencies seem to show when he's very sensitive that his friends might find out he's a grimwalker, terrified about what they might think and say.
See why I love MBTI? :') When I used to practise as a therapist, I definitely chose it as my main career counselling theory to use with clients, since every student who's training to be a licensed counsellor or psychotherapist here is required to have at least two theories on hand to draw from in their work.
Knowing these functions helps me to read people and the room better, especially as an autistic person.

Just wanted to say thank you for responding to my ask. I know youre busy with your exams so i wont bother you. I also wrote a detailed ask to the frosty person, who seems very nice but wanted to voice my point on view on their response. i hope they understand that and dont take it the wrong way. i appreciate all of you nice peoples time.
one thing I also wanted to clarify and make sure that i didnt say it incorrectly, but i was not saying i think the acolyte is a leftist show, (i havent seen it) but i was saying that its the ppinion of the right wing conservative trolls that they are because they have diversity. which clearly a gigantic conglomerate like disney is absolutely not leftist lol
thank you again for listening.
good luck with your exams!
You're welcome! I'm honestly glad this video and your ask sparked some interesting discussions across rlmblr. I think ultimately, ppl will read what was said differently no matter what...but also, probably nobody here would ever claim that they watch RLM for their politics so it's bound to create situations where some people disagree vehemently against what was said in the video while others don't see how something like that would get in the way of their entertainment if they don't watch RLM for that reason. YKWIM? Though I'm more in the former group because I wish for a world where people don't go "don't woooorry about it they're white cishet guys they'll mess up like that !" I'm kinda already sick of coddling the likes of them at the ripe age of 25. Also I have a tendency to be cynical about Mike's views at this point ngl. I mean this in general, not really about this famous Schrödinger's video I haven't seen.
The ask you sent to @frostytherobot was this ask right?
I have my 2 cents to give to that ask and this one. Your assumption that white leftists alone express annoyance with identity politics isn't quite correct. The arguments I've seen against leaning too much on this framework is that white """leftists""" often think they can stack their oppression from their marginalization like lego in order to compare said oppression to that of people of color and this behavior is very evidently NOT about solidarizing and empathizing with people of color but about centering any talk about oppression around themselves sadly.
And lastly about this ask, good 2 know we're on the same page about the Acolyte lol. Yeah that is indeed the case, that such shows are miscategorized by bad actors & grifters >>;
P.S: Today was my last exam and I think it went well, surely because you told me 'good luck' in this ask 😏
