ok so my idea for a bad batch redesign is. What if the bad batch was actually an experiment on transgenic clone modifications. like. really putting the "experimental" in experimental clone force.

Hunter - Kaleesh genes make his senses sharper, and gives him infrared sensing (and by extension night vision) and stronger hunting instincts - His ears are pointy and taller than normal, but he hides that with his bandana - Has pit organs under his eyes (that's how he senses infrared and electric currents) - His eyes reflect light and have slit pupils - His pinkies work as secondary thumbs

Tech - Kind of a test to see how much of givins' natural affinity for mathematics is genetic and how much is socialized - He's better with maths and has quicker thinking than regular humans - Givin genes make him smaller, pale and bony, so he looks kinda sickly and starved but he's totally normal - The glasses help hide how deep his eyes are - The "balding" look from his original design is now because of his bone structure

Wrecker - Gamorrean genes give him enhanced strength - It also gives him a very strong sense of loyalty, and makes him tend to be stubborn - He's actually a little bit shorter than an average clone, but he's so wide that people think he's taller than he really is - His left canine broke in the same incident where he lost his left eye

Crosshair - Chiss genes give him infrared vision and better reflexes (and red scleras) - Umbaran genes give him ultraviolet vision - He really is just an experiment on expanding the human vision range - He sees infrared better than ultraviolet, and has better night vision than Hunter - His hair is a cool black instead of the usual warm black - He's a bit paler as well but that's because he doesn't like bright places

Not sure if this has been asked before, but what the heck, I'll ask anyway.

Why do you think most kids struggle with learning to use magic? It seems like most people who leave Hogwarts barely improve from when they started. Your average wizard isn't all that impressive while prodigies like Tom, Lily and Dumbledore are few and far between.

Even decently competent wizards like the Golden Trio seem like a uncommon occurence. So, what gives?

Is it like a Star Wars midichlorian thing? Do wizards all have different sized MP bars? Or is the Hogwarts curriculum really just that bad?

We see the Hogwarts curriculum, it's... I don't know if I should say bad but it is what it is. What is it? Students aren't there to learn magic, they're there to learn key spells. That's it.

All the classes we see are "memorize X spell" if you do it wrong, you're probably flicking your wand wrong or saying it wrong. Will a professor help you? Fuck you, no. Just keep practicing. Will you ever learn the phonetics of how you generally should be pronouncing spells? No, fuck you.

Hogwarts isn't about learning how magic works, how to use the toolset you have, it's just memorization which means if you go outside that box you're looking pretty fucking smart.

And we're talking learning spells where "turning a raccoon dog into rubbish" and "turning a chicken into a cup" are somehow completely different from one another and no one will tell you why.

The other time is spent on essays that seem to be mostly "name X thing" and write as many words about it as possible because inches == better.

So, you can be perfectly intelligent, but if you have a bad ear or coordination you're going to suck as a wizard. There's also weird shit that seems to go wrong such as a) your wand just isn't working for you (see Neville and Ron) b) you lack confidence apparently (see Neville).

Further, because Hogwarts is designed so that Crabbe and Goyle will never fall too far behind, that means the pace is fucking slow. And if you're average/not super motivated, you can cost and get along just fine. You don't need to be super awesome amazing wizard which means a lot of people are just going to settle for passing their classes.

The Facts

- at least once per episode knowing something’s wrong seconds before it happens

- It’s mostly just that, but someone also pointed out he always knows when Crosshair’s about to show up or say something

Was it an intentional mutation? Could be, but i think no. Midichlorians barely make sense in-universe and i just think that makes them a difficult thing to study biologically—like its not really genetic, but sometimes it is, and the best reason anyone has for why anyone has different m-counts at all is just “the will of the force”

With the Force, everyone is connected to it, that’s the whole thing. Just some more so than others, in a spectrum. Probably all the best pilots and sharpshooters are just a tiny bit more in tune with it than most people. (I also have thoughts on an even-less-force-sensitive Crosshair, and how it would play a role in his fall)

But Kaminoans notice he has this slight precognition and it goes with a barely above average m-count, and take interest, going in and purposely trying to create a Force-sensitive clone. Making Hunter even more of Omega’s dad

Now, I don’t think this would be really canon to the show, and even if it is I don’t think exploring it fits with the story as it is, and really I enjoy a SW show that stays away from Jedi shit,

But imagine several scenarios:

-Someone (Ventress) explains to Omega, in front of the group, how she knows she has a strong connection to the Force and should be trained, noting things like intuition and precognition, and Hunter shakes his head “That’s not the Force, that’s just normal” like a parent not realizing they have the same mental illness their child was just diagnosed with

-It means that, for the purposes of Project Necromancer, Hunter could take Omega’s place. And he would do it in a heartbeat

Prefacing this with mentioning that I'm autistic and Star Wars as a whole is my special interest/fixation/whatever the term is. So it really, really, REALLY gets to me when the lore and context and history of this franchise gets stepped on.

If Filoni wants to write his fanfiction and do whatever he wants then that's fine go make something on AO3 or whatever. The issue is that this is official. And like, maybe I'm insane for thinking this, but official material should probably stick with the official lore. Lore that states midichlorian count is what determines force sensitivity. Not training. Lore that has had examples of lightsaber wielding characters that did not have to be called Jedi or have to train as Jedi. General Grievous is the best example of this. He was never Sith, he was never force sensitive, but he was really good at using lightsabers.

If Sabine wants to train using a lightsaber, then I don't see the problem. But I DO see an issue in trying to shoehorn in the idea that she has to be trained as a Jedi for it, or has to be force sensitive for any of this.

Hating the official lore (from the OT, Prequels, Sequels, etc) is fine, you do you. I understand critiquing canon and wishing it was different. But as fans, we aren't influencing canon by having these views or writing fanfic and drawing fanart about it. The stuff that is set in stone doesn't change when we have headcanons that go against lore. But Filoni seems to.... Want to alter how canon is based on his headcanons. Which results in a clumsily written show that steps on itself trying to tell a story.

Regardless of if you like Filoni's interpretation of things or not, he kinda needs a check on his power and influence. He isn't the king of Star Wars, he isn't some God that can only create good content. If anything, Mando S3 kinda proved that he can make something absolutely awful out of what was great. And I really hope that he recognizes that maybe he should re-consult the lore specialists a bit more for the official work he does before charging ahead and assuming everyone thinks hes hot shit.

Okay so Bad Batch spoilers

The two things I’m picking up on, which I believe the show is trying to make clear so maybe they plan to bait and switch the audience:

- M-count in Omega and Palp’s interest in this research. I’m assuming M-count is short for Midichlorian-count? I know people have theorized that omega may be force sensitive before, and that theory was pretty quickly shut down due to existing canon regarding clones and force sensitivity, but we also know that canon can change. I’m pretty sure the show is telling us that Omega is most definitely force sensitive, even if it’s only a weak connection to the force.

- Project Necromancer. I mean, shit…the generalities of that one are pretty clear. They’re bringing people back from the dead, or maybe more accurately, preventing death not just through aging, but injury or illness. I’m also going to assume that Tech is somehow involved in this. My initial assumption is that Tech is a primary subject in this project, given that Hemlock had tech’s goggles.

Both of these theories are just from my initial watch through of the first four episodes. I feel like the show was making them pretty obvious, but also I may have been reading into things that weren’t there

Owen Lars appreciators this post is for you.

One of the few things I really liked about Kenobi was the time to shine it gave Owen and Beru Lars. I know that scene with the inquisitor was absolutely ridiculous in every way possible but it was so in character for those two that frankly I didn’t even care like the whole show is non-canon to me anyway.

It shows the people Luke gets it from, and why. And it gives me all the feelings, especially because I know he probably only realised all of this once they were already dead and he couldn’t make it up with Owen anymore.

Luke deciding to die with his training unfinished and face Vader head on is the most Owen Lars move he could have ever made. He’s a simple man - not stupid, just has a simple worldview - if you’re one of his, you’re his and he’ll go to the ends of the earth (or galaxy) for you. (Yes, I was very affected by “He IS my own.”)

He is the son of OWEN LARS. The man who faced down an inquisitor with a fucking farming pole so Luke could get away. Facing up to an enemy you know you can’t possibly defeat, assuming you’ll die? In the hopes of protecting those you love? Lars family shit.

Owen is stubborn and loyal and despite his rough exterior he’s kind to his enemies. The way Kenobi acted surprised that Owen would defend him, that to me is a big part of Luke’s worldview. Owen hates Obi-Wan’s guts but he won’t sell him out to the Empire to be killed. Luke learned kindness and forgiveness from Beru, and he learned respect, loyalty and mercy from Owen.

Luke grew up on the biggest galactic shithole in all of Star Wars, and he came out of it being the kindest beacon of hope for the Galaxy and restarted the Jedi Order that had failed Anakin. And he learned it from his aunt and uncle, the parents that did their goddamn best to raise their son. He learned it from Biggs Darklighter, his childhood best friend with revolutionary fervour who he buried before he was even out of his teen years. He learned it from the stubbornness of a group of people that settled and farmed in a stupidly harsh environment where they were constantly in danger of being sold into slavery or killed by sand people.

Luke may have inherited Anakin’s midichlorians, but what made him Luke was his upbringing. He’s Owen and Beru Lars’ son. And they raised him well.

Magic is not a solved science. It's difficult enough trying to integrate the different models and techniques used by various magical traditions throughout the world even without trying to throw quantum mechanics into the mix. Furthermore, for historical and cultural reasons, much of the magical community remains reluctant to entertain certain investigations.

I have vague and silly ideas about it, though.

RE: MATERIAL AND EXTRAMATERIAL SPACE

Magic, like material matter, most likely takes the form of particles and waves (which are the same thing ;) ). (No I do not have names and basic properties for the fundamental magical particles and I am not going to. I was considering charges of hot/cold and wet/dry despite these not meaning anything relevant to our macro understanding of these things, though.)

Now.

As a rule, material particles live in the mostly-flat three dimensional space we are familiar with navigating, and do not have the magical energy to leave it unless charged by an outside force.

As previously noted, magic takes place in six dimensions. Anything not on the material plane is on the astral plane, making it much larger and more confusing to navigate.

Similiarly, as a rule, pure magic exists Around the material plane and will only ever -- usually never -- be briefly visible or solid from our perspective. It can, however, bond with and influence both solid and magical particles -- in fact, essentially every molecule has magical elements. Magic is prone to loosely orbiting the material plane, though this effect peters out the further you get from it. (Have fun getting lost in the void.)

Purely or primarily magical entities include ghosts, curses, most daemons, and abominations such that how best to describe or categorise them is a lively debate.

RE: SOULS OR AURAS OR WHATEVER

All living things have some biological systems that extend into the astral plane. In intelligent species, this is what we call the 'soul'. Its anatomy is complex, fluid and poorly mapped, and can vary on an individual basis far more than our physical forms. Certainly, though, it is -- in most people -- capable of forming prehensile appendages, of absorbing and channeling magical energy, and of something resembling sight, touch and taste. Good passive defence against hexes correlates with less sensitivity.

Magic as an activity is, at its core, simply the ability to make use of said extramaterial Bits to achieve useful work. Our minds aren't really equipped to comprehend the full picture here, so anything sensed spiritually is generally subconscious or translated into an easier-to-digest form which varies person to person. This is also, of course, why mages are so often reliant on visualisation, symbolism and instinct.

Although they can naturally be pried apart temporarily, damage or extended separation is liable to cause brain damage and no doubt any other number of lovely things. Getting lost outside reality will generally render your body a vegetable, although there are some isolated reports of such examples going on to recover and develop new, different identities.

Typically, even when astral projecting, it's possible to maintain enough of an umbilical cord that this isn't a major issue. Total separation releases energy and requires energy to undo -- which is part of why one can harvest energy from animal and human sacrifice, as well as why young idiot mages occasionally need help getting back into their bodies.

Okay so starting off with her orgins (suuuuper mysterious orgins/s):

Miminskl was born on a very specific planet within wild space territory (I wonder which one it could be 💔) but she didn’t live there for too long, not even a full year before she somehow landed on Corusant. (will be expanded on later in my series in some way) The people who had her at that moment were unlucky and had to have a security check performed on them because they seemed kind of “off” in a way. Then one of the guys was like: “Holy shit, we’re busted. These ppl can’t know that we have a baby that we’re planning to sell or smth” so they run away with the baby and randomly handed her out to some woman. That “some woman” was Snäils Flink who was like super shocked once it happened. Like, this random baby just low key spawned in her arms. She was kind of like: “Okay. This is my baby now.” (Snäils was feeling kind of lonely at that moment since her children had just moved out and she might or might’ve not eaten her husband some years ago) So she sort of makes the selfish decision to adopt Miminskl because she was lonely and thought that Miminskl was the cutest non- Rii’käu baby she had ever seen.

But how did Miminskl even get named Miminskl? You might’ve probably not asked.

Well you see Mimi’s first word back at her totally mysterious home planet was her own name; Miminskl. It was like the only word she really knew to say and Snäils noticed that she was very responsive to that name so she just assumed that her name was indeed Miminskl (she was correct ✅)

Buuut if this question were to refer to the reason of her being named Miminskl by her biological parents then this is your answer: Her dad was absent during her birth/ hatching so he didn’t have a say in her name and her bio mom named her after the woman who raised her. (I wonder who her parents could possibly be 💔 oh, how I wonder 👽/s)

Now to her as a toddler:

Miminskl’s first three years of life were actually pretty “normal”. You know, as normal as it can get when your adoptive family is super rich. She was used to being taken to super fancy restaurants and events on the weekends. But only on the weekends because that’s when her siblings came to visit from school and her mom was definitely not working. Snäils works as a lawyer btw and the Flink family are well known lawyers back in their homeplanet. Snöökle and Kaak are studying law since m the time of 43 BBY.

Though there were three specific events Miminskl can vividly remember from her childhood: A “blood test”, the nightmare (Strike one.) and getting visited by the Jedi order. The blood test and the visit are connected to each other as all children who live on republic territory do a blood test which then gets submitted to the Jedi Order to check for their Midichlorian count. Miminskl’s test was done rather late as she was adopted and all that. So at two years old (42 BBY) she does the blood test. She and her adoptive family were like: “Yeah that’s it. Surely this will never be relevant later.”

(The nightmare is also connected to the two but shhhh)

As some may know, it was indeed relevant later.

While usually the Jedi only recruited new Jedis who lived on republic land at max. 1-2 years after their birth, Miminskl was a slight exception. Her Midichlorian level were some points above the average Jedi Midichlorian count (which is around 10’000 Midichlorians per cell). So of course the Jedi Order wanted to recruit her I mean come onnn guyssss

And then, as some may know too, Miminskl does accept to join the order. Everything is rather normal for a while, Miminskl visits her family whenever she attends one of Rii’käu’s many fests and whatever until when she is around eight years old. She had always been rather bothered by having the most random and nonsensical dreams almost every night but this one was different. She remembered the girl’s face. That was new. And guess what, Miminskl does eventually end up meeting that girl irl too. She had to switch clans because she was butting heads with the other children quite a lot. What a funny coincidence right???

Anyways so from ~ 36 to 27 BBY Miminskl has the best time of her life (this will be expanded on trust 🙏) until one day her life comes crashing down.

Now nothing is okay anymore and Miminskl is miserable. What happened? Bad stuff. Really, really bad stuff. She now uses a cybernetic reinforcement for her recently burned hand and does physiotherapy and psychological therapy. Physiotherapy was a massive success, psychological therapy wasn’t . Miminskl was having a hard time opening up. And not just to her therapist, but also to her Jedi Master, family and friends. So instead of actually getting better she picks up very unhealthy “coping mechanisms”. One of them actually taking advantage of her ability to dream.

Speaking of dreams: As mentioned earlier, Miminskl dreams… a lot. Especially in her early childhood and from 28 BBY to 24 BBY. She dreams of the most cryptic stuff every night. Sometimes there’s even people in her dreams she doesn’t know/ remember, a planet too. With temples, a very snowy mountain and a huge sea. If only she knew who those people were though. Was this a vision? A flashback from someone else? From a previous life?

Who knows? Miminskl certainly doesn’t and won’t know for a while.

I don’t really know what else to add on here??? I feel like I’ve already rambled and summarised things enough. If you have any more questions, feel free to comment/ ask. I’m just afraid sometimes (this time too) that I’ll reveal too much stuff and people will get bored or disappointed ToT

More Kitsune Thots

This AU was originally going to be Anakin being a bit of a slut throughout the galaxy but then Captain Rex happened. Ah. Anakin committed hard with the whole ‘I’ll wait for you/the war to be over’ once they both clocked how they felt for each other and couldn’t do anything about it.

So, instead I have more thots on how Anakin's handling the Kitsune transformation and some world building. tl:dr Anakin gets transformed by a Force Temple to reflect the strength of his force connection right before the events of AotC and this has a lot of run on consequences.

To the Jedi, Kitsune are considered beings of myth but there's a basis for them having actually existed once upon a time as extensions of the Force. Beings whose existence were so tightly woven within it that they were deemed embodiments or spirits of the Force itself, with Lightside and Darkside variants. So to have the highly debated Chosen One turned into this Fox Spirit? Yeah, it raises several eyebrows and quite a few Masters begin to panic because oh shit. This lends some credible weight to the argument of the Prophecy. While others are like, maybe the ‘missing father’ was actually just a Kitsune that’s been hiding in human form that the mother didn’t want to talk about.

They do not mention this to Anakin.

His genetics/biology no longer make the Healers want to cry because he’s not half-human and half-midichlorians anymore. The identification system just straight up returns with ??? on his species markers because it hasn’t got a clue. Kitsune markers were not in the system before. They are now.

They do mention this to Anakin. Along with what they suspect might be new food intolerances.

One of the first things Anakin notices about his new form is his enhanced sense of smell and hearing. Initially, very distracting as he tries to focus in the Force but he gets used to tuning it out like he did with his regular senses before. But, Ahsoka notices. Ahsoka who is a predator species and fully coming to terms with the fact that her new Master is also, basically, a predator species. Even if he’s the only one of his kind that they know of.

It takes a little bit of encouragement for Anakin to get the memo that his new Padawan wants to go hunting with him but once he realises he’s all for it. His full fox form with three tails is about the size of a Great Dane so he isn’t massive yet and doesn’t overshadow her during their hunt. It’s a nice little bonding experience for them. It comes at the cost of freaking out some shinies when they return with prey but free meat is free meat.

The next thing Snips and Skyguy work on is how Anakin can still wield his lightsaber while in full fox form. He doesn’t have opposable thumbs so he can’t hold it with his paws and his tails are not prehensile enough to swing it around either. The solution these two geniuses come up with?

As you can imagine this causes some amount of concern from the other Jedi. Captain Rex also takes some convincing.

I've already talked about Anakin's issues with excess force energy but a funny mental image in this AU is to just have him run an obstacle course. Over and over like training drills to wear himself out. It's much easier with four legs. I feel like there must be species-specific enrichment rooms in the Jedi Temple, kind of like there is in Beastars, in order to settle oneself in their body. It’s not healthy to ignore what the body needs even if the Jedi are trained to not let it control them.

Once Anakin grows more tails he gets bigger (Shire Horse size at four, twice as tall as a clone at five) and realises that his full fox form is quite strong. This is both a blessing and a curse for him because he finds it cumbersome but also bigger is more intimidating. Then he starts working out its utility purposes, like hauling cargo, or carrying wounded/exhausted soldiers. Big crates can be moved using the Force but he can move more in one go with less focus just by physically shunting them around. Carrying people is basically like letting them lean on him in humanoid form or giving someone a piggyback so it doesn’t bother him as much as people expected.

Rex may or may not often situate himself on Anakin’s back when charging into battle because they’re both insane and it looks cool af. Bigger target to hit but he’s willing to take that risk because it means his men get hit less.

He gets annoyed with himself for being so self absorbed all this time, thinking his larger form was a hindrance rather than seeing how it could be useful, until Rex points out that he’s worked it out now so the self pity doesn’t really do anything for anyone. He’s good like that.

Rex: [grabs Anakin’s fox face in his hands] What are you? Anakin: [pouting] An idiot sandwich

Next thing he notices is that his tails fan out instinctively during his fights with Asajj, which completely blocks her view. Usually, he’s having to fight against his tails, trying to keep them from getting in the way rather than making them work for him. I’m thinking of that Kung Fu Panda fight with Shen the Peacock who uses his tail fan as a distraction/block during fights. Obviously it takes some time for Anakin to be that fluid with it and they discover in the process that singed fur smells awful.

Which brings us onto the downsides of the transformation. Namely, he’s now susceptible to ticks and mites that just love to latch onto furry tails if he goes through tall grasses or jungles during a campaign. He's already had to deal with flea jokes (mostly from Ahsoka) and now he actually has parasites on him.

Anakin: It would be a misuse of the Force to just kill them all at once wouldn’t it? Obi-Wan: Extremely. Anakin: [whinges] But doing it by hand is such a pain. Obi-Wan: Consider this a trial of patience then Anakin: You are so not my favourite person right now.

Standing in the rain is a lovely experience for him even after all these years but now that he has fur it comes with the caveat of smelling like a wet dog afterwards. The troopers do not thank him for that. Even less when he shakes to get all the water off, spraying the hangar.

A bit of world building I’m adding to this is that the Kitsune’s powers are expressed through their tails. The more tails a Kistune has the greater their connection to the Force/the more power they control, etc (same in Japanese Mythology, the more tails a fox spirit had the more powerful they were). Except, people worked out that the tails themselves hold power and if removed from a Kitsune that power can be harnessed to influence the Force for whatever purpose. Like elongating one’s life... (Gee I wonder who could do with that who is very close to Anakin -eyes emoji-). The tail disintegrates once all the power it once possessed has been used. A kitsune that has a tail cut off will never be able to regrow it as each tail is its own connection to the Force, which has now been severed. It is why the Kitsune disappeared from the known Galaxy.

I’m thinking Obi-Wan eventually discovers this because as soon as Anakin turned into one he immediately dove for the Archives with whatever spare time he had to learn whatever he could about what Anakin might have to face now. He does not like the implication that they were hunted into extinction, or at least hunted to the point of exile. Already he’s picturing his padawan getting hunted for sport. He does however make a TL:DR version for Anakin to skim through, looking like he hasn’t slept in five days and Anakin is very touched by this display of care.

Obi-Wan is just not a words of affection kind of guy.
