Introduction
Hexapoda is, by far, the most successful group of animals ever. Descended from crustaceans, they probably emerged on land during the Silurian period, although the earliest definitive fossils like the springtail Rhyniella date from the early Devonian.
Today, nearly a million hexapod species are known, the vast majority of them insects, making up half of all known animal species. They have colonized all habitats, with one insect and multiple springtails even being known from the Antarctic mainland.
The basal ones
These orders belong to neither of the two larger Hexapoda classes (insects and springtails). They have traditionally been grouped with springtails in the "Entognatha" due to their hidden mouthparts, although phylogenetic studies show that they might have acquired this trait independently.
Protura, the coneheads
Tumblr media
Protura sp., David R. Maddison, CC BY-SA 3.0
Tiny, eyeless creatures less than one millimeter long, proturans are usually found in leaf litter and moist soils. They are functionally centaurs, holding their front legs up like antennas to sense their surroundings.
They are believed to be the sister group of springtails in the clade Elliplura, although some scientists have placed them as basal to all hexapods, or even as a completely separate group. Fact is, they're tiny, easy to miss, and still extremely understudied.
Diplura, the two-pronged bristletails
Tumblr media
Campodea staphylinus, Mvuijlst, CC BY-SA 3.0
Pretty much the poster child for what the default hexapod looks like. Another group of eyeless creatures found in leaf litter and moist soils, they can reach up to 5 centimeters long. Their main feature is their long pair of cerci (ass antennas), nearly as long as their actual body. Some of them have turned their cerci into pincers, making them look like earwigs.
Diplurans are most likely the sister group of insects in the clade Cercophora (ass antenna bearers), and indeed look like an off-brand version of basal insect groups. Earlier diplurans like Testajapyx from Mazon Creek had semi-external mouthparts and functioning eyes, so their loss in modern diplurans is very much a skill issue.

LoZ: Wild - An Examination of Gerudo Societal Pressures
You know what I don't understand? Why I haven't seen a lot of fans exploring the amount of societal pressure that the Gerudo Culture would absolutely visit upon its vai to find voe to settle down with.
Like, think about it. The continued existence of their race relies on as many of their vai as possible leaving town to go out & find voe to marry & have as many daughters as they can with.
Like, if as many of them as possible don't do this, their race could feasibly die out. Now, in the IRL modern era, there's a lot of focus on gender equality, 'women need to be in more positions of power,' acceptance & even celebration of others' sexualities, of child-free lifestyles, of 'transwomen & transmen are the same as women & men & if you're not attracted to them then you're a bigot,' & 'strong, independent woman don't need no man.'
But here's a race where positions of power are ALL occupied by women because their race only gets 1 man per century. And there's a very real & present consequence to this being the case.
Such as having to leave their homes & desperately search out men from other races in order to keep their people & culture alive. Also, the very obvious sexual, even misandristic, segregation present in their culture & the fact that daughters are purposefully separated from their fathers, & sometimes even mothers as showcased by Rhondson & Maddison, as early as age 5 & are not allowed to see each other until the vai are old enough to go out & find voe of their own & I just don't think that that's very healthy for them. Studies show that children who grow up without a father figure of some sort tend to have far more problems psychologically later down the line. So, unless the Gerudo's brains develop in a wholy different way to how humans do, this tradition of their's could just be creating generation after generation of possibly developmentally stunted individuals. Which shows that just because their culture is run by women rather than men, that doesn't automatically make everything rosy & perfect.
Which is actually a very realistic outlook in this situation. In this way, you could say that men are both coveted & in some ways paradoxically looked down upon in a similar way to how women used to be IRL, at least in Gerudo society. I've even seen a comment about how Gerudo are made to be so entirely divorced from men that said men are in a lot of ways viewed as an entirely different species from themselves. Which makes a certain degree of sense.
And I saw someone complain about how the Gerudo are a race of warrior women, yet they are forced to abandon their homes in order to find husbands & pop out babies & that all the Gerudo they meet outside of the desert all seem to only talk about romance & there was some obvious indications of them having a feminist perspective. Of course, they were wrong; not all of the Gerudo outside of the desert only talk about romance & finding voe, but admittedly, most of them do. Though, the thing is, this is actually extremely realistic given their biological situation.
The amount of social pressure in the Gerudo Culture, just from their biological circumstances, to be straight, leave home, find a man, get married to him, & have as many kids as possible must be absolutely insane.
Like, let's be real here. In a predicament where you either reproduce or you could be contributing to your race's extinction, you fucking reproduce! Keep in mind, the Gerudo are never really shown to be very prolific, so that might also contribute. Logically speaking, if more Gerudo had a larger number of offspring, then perhaps there wouldn't be such a subliminal need for each & every one to go out & seek men. Which alone would take some pressure off & might allow for more Gerudo to feel free to pursue other interests.
I mean, you really only see a handful of young vai in town & only really Maddison outside of it. Which, for me, would raise some alarms. Like, this is such a huge cultural thing, yet you only see 1 family with a Gerudo daughter outside of town?? Why aren't there more?? Like, not all of them need to have side quests! Just have a couple random Gerudo women living in Hyrule with a husband, a few with young daughters & even some with baby vai in bassinets! Maybe have a couple Gerudo obviously pregnant.
Which, BTW! There are no pregnant women in BotW or TotK! And that is extremely alarming!
Like, as modern women, we can say that we're independent & don't need men & we don't need children because our population is very high right now. Therefore it isn't as outrageously important for us to pop out kids. The Gerudo, however, don't have that option.
All things considered, there really aren't that many of them as they almost exclusively live in the Gerudo Desert unless they're out around Hyrule looking for men or married to one & living there, at least as far as we know & that really isn't a very large place compared to the rest of Hyrule. Then again, the desert does just cut off there, so I wouldn't be surprised if there are actually more Gerudo settlements that aren't as close to Hyrule & thus aren't really considered thematically important to the plots of the games.
I admit that I do also wish that they talked more about other things, but it just shows how important this is.
Honestly, let's be real here. Gerudo Culture most likely wouldn't be very kind to homosexuals or transpeople. Even spinsters are likely looked down upon as failures to a degree. I'm just being realistic here.
If a Gerudo were to discover she was gay, I guarantee that it'd be a death sentence if anyone found out.
And transman foreigners that try to talk up Gerudo? Probably considered deceivers & wicked liars. Especially if the Gerudo had to find this out on their own rather than being told. Like, not only is something like that horribly manipulative IRL, for a Gerudo who thought she'd found her true love who she could live happily ever after with & have daughters with to make her ancestors proud. This would be like a slap in the face.
Like, obviously most of these people would likely just be trying to live their lives as who they believe themselves to be or something, but from the perspective of a Gerudo, it would feel very targeted. It would just make sense that the Gerudo's culture would subconsciously teach them to react in such a way.
Like, keep in mind the cultures that the Gerudo are based off of: Egypt/Middle Eastern cultures. Such cultures are mostly Muslim in religion & they generally don't treat homosexuality very well either. In fact, if 2 men have sex, it is very possible for them to be sentenced to death. Even in situations where a man is raped by another man, the victim is still liable to be executed unless he lies & says he's trans.
But even that is simply from a religious perspective. The Gerudo are forced to look at it through a "my entire race is relying on me to have babies or we could go extinct" perspective. Which should arguably make them even more biased against such things.
Keep in mind that Nintendo doesn't seem to be afraid of making the Gerudo go extinct as exactly this seemed to take place in Wind Waker.
Which, BTW, I'm still trying to nail down how the Gerudo came back from if the Wild Series really is a convergence of all 3 timelines. I mean, I always suspected that Telma was at least part Gerudo, but who knows, maybe I was right?? Perhaps the ancestors of the Gerudo returned to the desert for whatever reason & something about that caused something to happen?? I dunno... I do theorize that the whole only women thing might've been a result of some sort of curse, so maybe another aspect of that is that returning to the Gerudo Region allows their Gerudo blood to resurface??
Though... now that I think about it. Maybe they wouldn't be so outright opposed to Vai being genderfluid. They'd likely see it as strange & childish, but ultimately harmless.
Voe, though? No.
This isn't meant to be hateful, just a realistic look at the Gerudo culture based on logic & evidence. An examination of how a society like this would actually work given their situation.

Something is wrong in modern life. We're experiencing levels of safety and security that our ancestors would have found unfathomable. According to Statista, the rate of violent crime in the United States fell by almost half from 1990 to 2022. That's not an anomaly; as Harvard University professor of psychology Steven Pinker notes in Better Angels of Our Nature, crime of all kinds has been falling for centuries. We experience far less rape, murder, and robbery than did our ancestors. We're also much less likely to die in war. While the current Israeli-Palestinian conflict is tragic, it's also a far cry from the continent-spanning conflicts of centuries past, like the Thirty Years War or the Napoleonic Wars.
Similarly, we're experiencing a level of material prosperity that our ancestors could only dream of. According to economic historians at the Maddison Project Database, from around 1 CE to 1800 CE, the annual real (or inflation-adjusted) income per person was under $2,000. By 2016, that number in the United States was a comparatively staggering $53,015. Life expectancy for most of human history was around 30 years; in the United States, life expectancy in 2022 was 76.1 years. We even work fewer hours than people even a century ago.
And yet, in spite of our historical levels of privilege, many of us are miserable. Over 40 million people in the United States suffer from an anxiety disorder. 47 million Americans suffer from depression. As Dr. Alok Kanojia, a psychiatrist at Harvard University, puts it when describing modern life, "Life just seems to be squeezing everyone dry."
What's going on? Why are we struggling so much to cope with the demands of modern life, even though those demands are lighter than anything our ancestors had to contend with? Our ancestors slew dragons on a daily basis; why are we struggling to beat back chihuahuas?
The truth is that humans evolved specific powerful ways to cope with the world. Our ancestors used these to great effect to thrive in conditions of intense danger and poverty. Over the past several decades, most of our society has accidentally turned away from these ways.
In order to cope with negative experiences, we need two things: time and mental space. We need idle time, in which our hands might be occupied but our minds are not, in order to let our minds simply process whatever has happened to us. Here's how Dr. Kanojia describes it: "[emotional] processing is actually…a subconscious or relatively automatic activity that…happens over long periods of time." This is a very powerful process and can help folks to work through brutal experiences.
In ages past, humans had lots of idle time. We fished, sharpened spears, tended fires, repaired nets, and performed other physical activities that kept our hands busy while leaving our minds free to process the events of the day. By contrast, in the modern world, we have little to no idle time. Every spare minute is filled with distractions: we listen to podcasts, read books, text friends, and check social media ten thousand times per day. As a result, we never actually process our emotions and work through them. Dr. Kanojia describes this phenomenon using an example of a bad date:
"Let's say I have a bad date. What I end up doing immediately after the bad date…is distract myself and then what happens is—as I distract myself—I don't process any of those emotions. They kind of just go dormant…as this goes on again and again and again what we tend to see is that our life is filled with negative impacts that we don't allow ourselves time to actually process."
As humans, we're designed to be very resilient; but a primary mechanism of that resilience is giving ourselves idle time in which to process our emotions. In the absence of that idle time, we start to feel very fragile. As Dr. Kanojia puts it, we experience "death by a thousand cuts." He says he works with a lot of people who "as they try to move through life, they're just getting more and more shriveled and kind of patched up and defunct." Or, as he sums it up, "We're not able to recover from things the way that we used to."
It's not just lack of idle time that's handicapping our ability to cope with life's challenges. Sebastian Junger is a war correspondent who spent time on the front lines of the Afghanistan conflict. In a piece for Vanity Fair titled "How PTSD Became a Problem Far Beyond the Battlefield," he points out that chronic PTSD was rare in pre-modern societies. "Ethnographic studies on hunter-gatherer societies rarely turn up evidence of chronic PTSD among their warriors," he writes, "and oral histories of Native American warfare consistently fail to mention psychological trauma." Even fifty years ago, reports of PTSD were relatively low among soldiers. But modern soldiers experience high rates of PTSD; as of 2015, he notes, fully half of Iraq and Afghanistan veterans applied for disability. As Junger puts it: "They return from wars that are safer than those their fathers and grandfathers fought, and yet far greater numbers of them wind up alienated and depressed."
What's driving this increase in PTSD among modern soldiers? Junger chalks it up to changes in modern society. We evolved as hunter-gatherers; we lived in small communal tribes where we worked, hunted, and slept surrounded by our fellows. That communal experience is common for soldiers, who live in tight-knit platoons and have to rely on their brothers for their daily survival. By contrast, modern civilian society in the United States is isolationist and atomistic. Most of us are lonely; according to an Advisory by the Surgeon General, "In recent years, about one-in-two adults in America reported experiencing loneliness." Even those of us with spouses and close friend networks don't experience the deep web of social connection that hunter-gatherers—or many soldiers on active duty—experience.
Leaving a close-knit platoon to return to a society where a "strong support network" might mean a few friends that you see once per week can be jarring. According to anthropologist Sharon Abramowitz, "Our fundamental desire, as human beings, is to be close to others, and our society does not allow for that."
The alienating effects of modern society can even prevent recovery after a traumatic event. Junger describes an experiment with lab rats in which a rat is traumatized by an attack by a larger rat. The smaller rat, who was frightened but not injured, generally recovered within 48 hours—unless it was kept in isolation. As Junger puts it, "The ones that are kept apart from other rats are the only ones that develop long-term traumatic symptoms." Our veterans spend years overseas in the kind of dense social web that we evolved to thrive in, and then return to a society that feels utterly isolating by contrast. No wonder so many of them experience long-term PTSD.
It's not just veterans who suffer from this alienation, of course. Many Americans experience trauma of some kind. We evolved to heal from that trauma; but when our mechanism for healing (social connection) is hijacked, we shouldn't be surprised when people start to seem more fragile.
We see the same story in conflict resolution. We have a lot of conflict in our society. According to a 2021 study by the American Enterprise Institute,15 percent of American adults have ended a relationship over politics. 40-50 percent of first marriages end in divorce (and the numbers are even higher for second marriages). And a quick glance at Twitter will reveal that, when it comes to conflict, we're bursting at the seams.
Partly, this is because we don't process our emotions, so they keep bubbling out of us in unpleasant ways. But part of it is that we rarely take advantage of how our bodies were designed to work through conflict.
In his book The Way Out, Columbia University professor of psychology Peter T. Coleman notes that when we have conflict with someone, we normally sit down to hash it out. But this is suboptimal; in fact, it's much more productive to physically move with the person. As Coleman reports, "physically moving in sync with others has been shown to enhance cooperation, prosocial behavior, and the ability to achieve joint goals, and it also increases our compassion and helping behavior." "One study," he said, even "showed that walking in sync with a group of people made them more willing to make personal sacrifices that benefited the group."
When you have conflict with someone, taking a walk or even going for a run with them can be a much more powerful way to get back to peace than simply sitting down with them. Our bodies evolved to move. When we ignore this and assume that our thoughts and our words are the only things that matter, we shouldn't be surprised when conflict starts to feel endemic and unfixable.
Another way to reduce conflict is to take some time away from the conflict to breathe. As psychologist Chris Ferguson explained to us in an interview, doing this can help us to calm down and not fly off the handle at small conflicts. Ferguson explains that "there are two related issues here…emotional responses usually peak immediately after a stressor, then lessen with time, and, second, emotional responses tend to impair problem-solving." "Thus," he argues, "you see people have a bad emotional response, impulsively do something stupid, only to later acknowledge how stupid it was." When we pause and take time to process, we can "evaluate if the situation is really as bad as we initially thought it was" and calibrate our response from there. Again, this is something that most of our ancestors did very easily; in a relatively slow-paced society, you have a lot of time to breathe when it comes to addressing (non-violent) conflict. But in our hyper-online age, we're far more used to experiencing a stimulus (for example, a tweet we don't like) and immediately reacting. That's a formula for conflict escalation that our ancestors rarely had to deal with.
This rejection of our biology and the rhythms for which we evolved is having damaging effects on our psyches. But even more concerning is its erosion of our civic society.
For most of American history, the United States has been characterized by the strong bonds of civic association. In his book Democracy In America, Alexis de Tocqueville observed that the United States was unique in terms of our willingness to band together to form private organizations in order to address problems. In the 20th century, these organizations included religious groups, bowling leagues, charitable organizations, interest groups, trade unions, and more. They bound us together in a tight web of interpersonal associations that helped us feel connected to the world and to our neighbors.
The problem with human connection, though, is that it's inherently risky. If you go on a date, you might find true love…or you might get rejected. If you join a bowling league with your neighbors, you might find a much-needed sense of community…or you might feel humiliated by your low score or hurt by something that another league member said (whether or not their statement was intended to be hurtful). Our ancestors were able to shrug off this risk and deal with the rough-and-tumble of human interaction because they used the powerful strategies that our biology and evolution gave us. But because we've turned away from these strategies, human interaction has started to feel substantially more dangerous. When we stop processing our emotions, we stop recovering from interactions that might rub us the wrong way. We move away from seeing these annoyances as a minor irritant and the small price of human connection and start to experience death by a thousand cuts.
This trend is most pronounced among younger generations, who are more prone to living online and more cut off from in-person connection and physical movement. Is it any wonder that 73% of Gen Z’ers (age 18-22) report "sometimes or always feeling alone?" Or that 63% percent of men aged 18 to 29 are single, according to Pew Research? More and more young people are deciding that IRL social relationships are too risky for them because they've never been taught the coping mechanisms that our bodies and evolution gave us.
The rejection of these coping mechanisms also poses dangers for our republic. Our republic requires that people come together to debate and discuss ideas. As governmental systems go, this is pretty rough-and-tumble. It requires that we engage with people in good faith who might disagree with us or even believe that decisions we have made should be illegal. When we take time to process our emotions, this engagement is highly doable. But when we neglect to do so, these conversations start to feel riskier. We have trouble coping with opposing views and are more likely to stew and ruminate on the perceived awfulness of those views to our psychological detriment. This is made worse by the fact that more people are carrying around a lot of bottled-up anger and frustration, looking to vent it on someone else. We're all getting more angry at the same time that we're getting more sensitive, which is not a recipe for productive conversations. In the absence of these productive conversations, we may find that people lose their appetite for democracy.
This isn't hypothetical. Again, the problems that we've identified in this piece are most acute among younger Americans. And young Americans are indeed losing faith in democracy. Only 59 percent of Americans aged 18-25 agree that "Democracy may have problems, but it is the best system of government" (compared to 74 percent of Americans as a whole).
So what can we do to ameliorate the malaise of modern society and get back to the emotional peace and well-being that our ancestors experienced? One key is to get back into the rhythms from which we evolved. Cultivate idle time. Develop a closer circle of friends, and spend more time in person with other human beings rather than trying to connect through a keyboard (as far as our evolved brains are concerned, the latter is mostly pseudo-connection anyway). If you're in conflict with someone else, get together in person and physically move through it. Once we start working with our biology instead of against it, we might be surprised at how much better we, and our society as a whole, start to feel.
Another key is to stop letting ourselves be artificially divided into in-groups and out-groups. Illiberal attitudes towards race and gender can certainly contribute to us not interacting as often or as deeply with people who have superficial differences (for example, college students are warned to avoid an ever-increasing list of microaggressions when interacting with someone of a different race or gender, some of which are just basic get-to-know-you questions). But we can choose to not fall into these divides to instead recognize another core component of our biology, which is that we are all one human species and that our differences are dwarfed by our similarities. If we do that, we might all feel a little bit less lonely.

Hey There! An Introduction
I'm Lily Maddison, a 16 year old musician, writer (lyricist, novelist, poet), music engineer, and graphic designer. I've been doing this since I was five, and I'm looking forward to sharing my work with Tumblr!
Here is the list of my current stories in-progress:
I have two worlds, Drant (fantasy, adventure) and South Side (YA contemporary fiction).
Drant
Sixteenth Summer
Sixteen-year-old Ellie Hunter is quiet, reserved, and friendless. Having spent her whole life on the sidelines, the last thing she ever would have expected was a rain-soaked boy to arrive on her doorstep, claiming to be a significant figure from her past. As Ellie gets to know this boy, who calls himself Tetsu, someone emerges from the shadows who is determined to ruin Tetsu and destroy Ellie. A story is rapidly unraveling, a story much older and bigger than little Ellie Hunter… and somehow revolving entirely around her. (A modern retelling of a Japanese legend)
Mythicals: The Star-Holder
In a human-dominated society, magical creatures known as mythicals have been forced into hiding. But after centuries of mistreatment and abuse, a man called Undric rises to power. His agenda will result in the Earth being a human-free planet— and soon. When Trace’s best friend loses her family to this regime, a message from the divine will provide Trace’s own family with special abilities. Together, they will rise to stop Undric once and for all. (Book 1 of 3)
Kingdoms
Princess Enya of Honthe grows up in the castle, living a soft life- until the stars go out. Then, the world as she knows it will be forever be changed. An ancient beast from Drant's folklore awakes from slumber, leading to the offering of children all throughout Drant. Only a few are chosen by the beast, including Enya, and they are whisked away to an island where they will be 'prepared' for their journey. While on this island, Enya finds out a few dark secrets about Honthe’s past that spark the largest war Drant has seen since before even the beast… and this time, not everyone will make it out alive.
The Petrified Sea
Arthi lives a land all about essence. His essence is Delinquent- the only one that brings shame upon families . While many Delinquents are cast out altogether, Arthi's parents keep him in a gesture of agonized love for their son. But when he’s at the wrong place at the wrong time, a bounty is placed on his head for a crime he didn’t commit. His sister dead and the whole country looking for him, he begins to plan his escape. That is, until he's forcibly taken in by a Delinquent outcast by the name of Risha. She teaches him how to live on the outside, and he's welcomed into her rag-tag family with open arms. Together, they aim to find the Petrified Sea- an ancient myth that can supposedly put an end to their suffering.
The Blackbird King
Meet the Under Earthers, a group of people who have been banished to the undergrounds by the Dictator of Bindarra. But they fought back, and went on to build a civilization underground. 6 hasn’t been there long, but she knows that NOBODY rocks the boat. But then a new kid comes running down the Lift declaring that there are other lands beyond Bindarra, despite the Dictator’s claims that there aren’t. Nobody bothers to believe the boy- who gets dubbed 112- until 729 gets captured by the Dictator’s forces and sent to be killed. There’s only so much time until the Under Earthers get discovered, and the clock is ticking. The Council decides to send a group of teens to see if the Myths are true, and 6 gets chosen to come along.
South Side
Letters in the Rain
In the sea of South Side students, one student drifts unanchored. Struggling with a vicious mental health battle, they travel through their freshman year in an introspective and reclusive haze. What they fail to realize is how many people love them and will stop at nothing to keep them safe. As their illness spirals over the course of the year, their friends rally around them with increasing desperation to show them that, whatever their mind may tell them, they are not fighting alone.
Carol's South Side Survival Guide
Through a turn of events, Carol and her best friend/cousin combo Harper are attending South Side Academy for the first time as freshmen. A whirlwind year ensues, one of explosive friend groups, tricky romances, and painful family developments. The social politics prove hard to master, but Carol is careful to write each rule down in her Survival Guide as she discovers them. When the end of the school year finally arrives, Carol is given her English final: to tell her story, whatever it may be. Stumped, Carol decides to consult the Survival Guide and discovers the single most important rule she missed... and the one that tells her story the best.
The Smoke in the Mirror
What do you do when life as you knew it crashes around your ankles? Stephanie and Zoey North, twins and freshmen at South Side, are about to find out. Zoey and Stephanie both have a crush on the same boy, and with their focus on the related proceedings, they don't notice the real trouble brewing right under their noses. Lies, double-crossers, and unexpected secrets go unseen throughout the school year, finally boiling over in a series of events that change everything they thought they knew about each other, themselves, their friends, and even a few people they swore they'd never trust again.
The Room of Misfits
Penny is, in her friend's terms, “living her best life”. She has a healthy group of friends, a stable home life, and good grades. All the same, she finds herself growing tired of the shallowness in her life. Auden is the elephant of the room. As an autistic boy used to stares, laughs, and pointed looks, he eventually settles into hiding himself in public. Penny and Auden meet face to face for the first time in the park and agree to help each other make friends. As the year progresses, the two of them form a group like nothing South Side has ever seen: a group where Titles mean nothing and nobody is left unheard.
The Buddy System
Clea, a new student at South Side, has never been good at making friends. Almost immediately she catches the attention of Ross, a Christian boy who takes pity on her situation. Despite her noticeably rough edges, he chooses to give her a chance at his friendship. Celestial (Ed Sheeran) meets Cruel Summer (Taylor Swift) when two unlikely friends fall in love.

sometimes I think abt my characters and what they'd be doing on social media
Isaac very obviously has a consistent presence on the internet bc modern him is a YouTuber/content creator (I hate the term influencer with a passion), but Edgar is an anomaly. No presence. Nothing. He only shows up in the backgrounds of Isaac's photos mid-movement like a cryptid. He isn't even intentionally avoiding them, he just does not use social media AT ALL. He probably wouldn't use YouTube all that much, either, outside of editing for Isaac. At most he has a LinkedIn. Yes, he's a computer programmer. Yes, he also is completely baffled by the internet. All he knows is use Adblock and order expensive parts from websites. He uses Linux and Firefox and he will get into an argument with his loved ones if he sees they're still using Google Chrome. It's not that he doesn't use these things- he just doesn't post and doesn't have any accounts.
RAE is probably like Isaac- he is Very Much There online. I think he'd be less terminally online, though. He still takes a lot of time to unplug, and most of his life exists outside of the framing of online spaces. He DOES create very aesthetically appealing pictures of food and himself, though.
Orange... I can only really see her using it to advertise and network for her business. At most, she picked up Tinder Once, got annoyed after the first few matches, and uninstalled the app. She loves services like Spotify, though. And stuff like Audible... Orange definitely binges a lot of books while she's busy drafting patterns and sewing. She likes to leave the music on low in the background while she talks to Billy as she works, too :]
Red is also Old Man like Eddie and doesn't use any social media. His big fat thumbs are too big to use a phone. Unlike Eddie, though, he thinks The Social Medias are melting people's minds and back when I was a kid we played outside and on arcade cabinets blah blah blah. He likes his tablet, though. It makes it easier to pull up funny videos.
Coda... Twitter shitposter. Definitely uses Tumblr, too. They don't give out much personal information, but people think they're hot (they generally stay in sapphic circles) and funny. Probably has a travel blog or smth like that on top of his normal social media. He totally uses Instagram and likes posting pictures of him nd his toddler traveling.
Maddison (modern them) is PEAK shitposter, though; they're addicted to Tiktok and Twitch and are lowkey trying to become a creator. They're on the brink of a big depressive episode when they graduate high school so the internet becomes one of the only things that make them happy. Basically, they're like most of us on here BIXGGIYDGIBJ.
Mint and Indigo are probably lurkers.. They don't really post much of anything, but they enjoy stuff like Twitter and YouTube and Twitch passively. They aren't diehard fans or anything; they like the occasional 6 hour long video essay about some show from the early 2000s.

this is how i see the revolutionary set and co dressing
hamilton: wears either black, grey or green hoodies and jeans all the time. he probably would hiss at you if you put him in anything else ( just like lin, he'd wear jeans and a shirt to the mf whitehouse and you cannot convince me otherwise )
laurens: overall just dresses really casual. he doesn't overdress since that takes energy. his outfits are simple and they work perfectly for him.
lafayette: he is one of two things; either extremely well dressed, like fashion model type shit, or has no fucking dress sense at all, like he gets dressed in the dark. and yet he always makes it look good. ( he's also definitely alt in some way but i can't tell what )
mulligan: basically just wears baggy ass pants and a tank top on the regular ( he seems like the type of person who would wear shorts in winter on some elsa "the cold never bothered me anyways" type beat )
angelica: she's a dark academia girlie and they all slay. i have nothing more to say
eliza: she's just very casual, very cozy. they might be simple but they're stunning each time.
peggy: she wears anything imo and she makes it all work. also something tells me that she is a queen at accessorizing and everyone comes to her for tips and advice ( except for thomas. he's just stuck up )
jefferson: runway model. designer everything. his outfit alone will call you a broke bitch.
maddison: sweaters sweaters sweaters. well, he's always sick so he gotta dress all warm and snuggly and shit
burr: he's always in some form of suit. casual? unless that casual has a business in front of it, that ain't him. he the type to carry a briefcase with nothing in it, or like a singular pen inside
washington: dad. need i say more? ( he once showed up in socks and sandals and everyone fucking exploded. ofc he didn't know why and thought they were overreacting )
king george: he's flamboyant stylish bitch energy. he's also colorful as all hell too. i can really think of much from him aside from everything is as dramatic as he is

Big Daddy (1999) Review
Big Daddy Directed by Dennis Dugan
Year Released: 1999 Duration: 93 Minutes Filming Format: 35mm Video: Colour Audio: Dolby 2.0 Surround Language: English Aspect Ratio: 1.85:1 Joey Lauren Adams Marathon 1/3
Adam Sandler's 1999 film, Big Daddy, tells the story of Sonny Koufax (Adam Sandler), a law school dropout, living in comfort on the settlement money he had earned a year prior (due to an altercation with a taxicab). Life is drastically changed for Sonny when a boy named Julian (Cole Sprouse, Dylan Sprouse) is dropped at his door. The child turns out to be the illegitimate son of Sonny's roommate Kevin Garrity (Jon Stewart) who is away on business in China. In a convoluted scheme to prove he is responsible to his girlfriend, Sonny decides to pose as Kevin to social services, caring for the child himself.
Sonny begins by allowing Julian to make his own decisions such as picking his clothing, what he eats, when he sleeps, etc. While this parenting method makes Julian happy, it quickly unravels once he is enrolled in school. The teacher quickly complains about Julian’s lack of progress, personal hygiene, fashion sense, and tendency to relieve himself on the walls or in potted plants. Finally grasping the severity of the situation, Sonny makes a change with the aide of Layla (Joey Lauren Adams) in raising Julian. The hard work put into both Julian’s development and Sonny's maturing as an adult is soon tested when social services begin to ask questions regarding Sonny's true identity.
While Big Daddy did not perform as well with critics as its preceding films (Roger Ebert gave the film one and a half stars out of four), it is a turning point in Sandler's career. Once known for his raunchy, nonsensical, and abrasive comedy, we now see a softer side to Sandler's character. We see a man who wants to change, a man who deep down craves responsibility and leaves behind his younger years of partying for something more meaningful.
The film also serves as, what I believe to be, a very important part of modern history in the terms of Hollywood's transition in accepting the LGBT community. Peter Dante and Allen Covert play two guys who were a part of Sonny's law school friend group. They, later on, discover their sexuality and are now in a relationship. While occasionally taking shots at their expense (in a good-hearted fashion) and Jonathan Loughran's character expressing visible discomfort, the film shows us men that are willing to at least try to understand. Sonny at one point explains to Layla "Nothing really changed, we just watch a different kind of porno now." This line drives across the main theme of love the film presents. In a notoriously misogynistic, prejudiced industry, we have one of the world's most popular comedians exclaiming it doesn't matter who you love, and that acceptance and caring are learned virtues that can be attained as long as you're willing to be open-minded.
At times the jumps from humour to sentimentality can be jarring but I feel it works in favour of the film. The transition of emotions is messy, but so is raising a child. It's messy, chaotic, confusing, and overwhelming. Sometimes things don't make sense but things will work out if you persist in your love for your child, partner, or friend.
Overall one of my favourites of Sandler's 90s movie run, ranking close to Billy Maddison. Sandler in his earlier years is obsessed with the theme of having to grow up and he has somewhat manifested this theme in his own life. We all know and love the goofy SNL era of Adam Sandler, many of us even love his raunchy later-in-life comedies like Grown Ups (mostly for nostalgia's sake), and we get to see him as a mature actor now in films like Punch Drunk Love and Uncut Gems.

RAF and Boeing explore sustainable aviation opportunities in Poseidon maritime patrol aircraft
Fernando Valduga By Fernando Valduga 08/19/23 - 13:00 in Military
A joint structure was signed at the Royal Edinburgh Military Tattoo by representatives of the British Royal Air Force (RAF) and Boeing to explore sustainable aviation opportunities in the Poseidon MRA1 fleet.
The joint structure will focus on life cycle assessments, end-of-service aircraft value capture, digital tools to optimize flight activity and environmentally sustainable maintenance activities.
The initiative follows the launch of the Net Zero Defense Aviation Strategy, which details how military aviation will contribute to Her Majesty's Government's Net Zero 50 goal. Boeing was one of the first signatories of the Charter.
Tumblr media
Representatives of RAF and Boeing signed a new letter on sustainability initiatives alongside Deputy Chief of Staff Air Marshal Richard Maddison. The letter was signed in Squadron 603 (Edinburgun City).
The structure will explore opportunities to improve the resilience and operational effectiveness of the RAF fleet of nine Poseidon, reducing operating costs and environmental impacts.
The Poseidon MRA1 is a multifunctional maritime patrol aircraft, equipped with sensors and weapon systems for anti-submarine warfare, as well as surveillance and search and rescue missions. The aircraft is a military derivative of a Boeing 737-800 Next Generation and presents opportunities to improve operational effectiveness.
Tumblr media
“Boeing is proud to take this step forward with the RAF as we work together to explore opportunities to make the defense aerospace sector more sustainable and develop our recent commitment to the Net Zero Defense Aviation Strategy and our continued investment in Scotland. The UK P-8A fleet based on RAF Lossiemouth and housed in The Atlantic Building, a joint £100 million investment by Boeing and the Ministry of Defense, offers opportunities to test and leverage sustainable technologies that will further increase the operational effectiveness of the fleet and reduce its environmental impact,” said Steve Burnell, managing director of Boeing Defense UK.
The Defense Aviation Net Zero Strategy describes the steps necessary to fulfill the commitment to decarbonize Defense's aviation capacity, as well as to mitigate the potential risks to operational effectiveness that are likely to arise due to climate change (Defense aviation emissions currently represent approximately 60% of the operational emission capacity of the MoD).
Tumblr media
Boeing and RAF co-chair the Defense Supplier Forum Climate Change and Sustainability Aviation Group, which provides leadership and strategic direction in defense aviation activity. Initiatives already underway include the RAF working with industry leaders Zero Petroleum Ltd to research and develop synthetic fuel technology, which has the potential to eventually eliminate dependence on fossil fuels. In November 2022, RAF and industry partners flew a Voyager (A330) using 100% sustainable fuel, a world premiere for a military aircraft of its size and the first of any type of aircraft in the United Kingdom.

what's deltapack AU tell me everything or send a link to a masterpost if u have one :> I love love love love AUs! do you have any drawings of your characters a s well?
OH BOY WELL. THERE IS A LOT. AND A LOT OF MY POSTS TALKING ABOUT IT... ARE KINDA OLD?? BUT!!
heres my two latest asks answered abt dpau that are good starts!!
1) the """basics""""... despite the length it is the starting stuff you need to know. just overexplained
2) here, links to post number 1 and talks about the basic lore for blank. brief-ish, only goes on more detail for some things, but skips over certain important scenes and events (but not like.. the core ones lol. and cliffhanger ending-ish i guess)
i also reccommend going through my dpau/datapack au tag on art fight, it has all my characters for this au there. they have some art there and descriptions on basic info on them too! I ALSO HIGHLY RECCOMMEND IT, BECAUSE I WILL DISCUSS CHARACTERS WHO I HAVE NOT DISCUSSED ON ANY OF THESE BEFORE!!! so check it out to see who's who.
THIS IS OLD, SOME OF IT NEEDS UPDATING, BUT MOST OF IT STILL STANDS UP!! some basic terms used in dpau and such from my old unfinished info google doc about dpau!!
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
and if i feel less anxious, i may share some fanfic chapters i have written for this. there's 1/2 i may share, which are connected. specifically about spamton Accidental Acid Nacho Dip and his escape from the mansion and some character drama ! i want to rewrite it because i made spectre too dramatic there, i think, and the background swatchlings get... very confusing. but it's the most well written one, i think. i have some stuff on blank's incident and argument with berry, but i cringe while reading it so... i'll see. i may also share any other notes and unfinished things and whatever if you'd like. i'll see what's in a ok-with-sharing stage
more random stuff for you!
blank's playlist ! i say it's still a work in progress - but i havent updated it in a long while.
divided into two parts, addiblank and corrupted blank. addiblank is my nickname for blank before his corruption.
some other characters also have playlists, but they are less developed
RANDOM FUN FACTS!!
most of the characters are named by one of my friends who helped with ideas and things for the au.
there's several czech pun names, including berry's middle name. berry b addison... they don't like sharing their whole middle name.
blank's voiceclaim is bo burnham, and i realized the two accidentally had similarities, so i purposefully added some quirks to blank to make him a bit more like bo as an inspiration.
tired swatchling is based on a roblox voicechat roleplay with my friends - i played as a... well. tired swatchling who's number one thing is hating rouxls kaard.
yes, blank does have rats in his hair. the cursorats! my own species i made !they're the rats to maice's...mice. they're based on gamer rgb glowing mice. the names of his pet cursorats are, pantaloonie, remy, the one (and only) and spaghetti
pantaloonie he can cook
maddison is heavily and i mean heavily based on my personality, if you added a bit of jerma. he is a canonical twitch streamer
blank and berry are also based on me, but also my best friend and our dynamic we had/have growing up! we've known each other since we were like..3 years old. we go way back and have seen each other in different stages of life like this, and certain periods just... inspired these two characters. and just. me. blank is a representation of me with people i trust, and being heavily indulgent in the things i like... berry is the quiet me around people i don't trust, and the character who struggles with a lot of the same social struggles i have as a neurodivergent person. all of these characters are a bit nd i can not write normal characters. sorry.
tired swatchling's and mocha's parents are two swatchling moms, chroma and aroma! i need to redesign aroma a bit, and make "modern" designs for them, since their current designs are them while younger!! these ladies have aged a little bit since - despite darkners lack of aging visibly after they become full grown adults.
spectre's name is not pronounced like specter! it's pronounced like spec-tray. they were my first swatchling oc, too, and for self indulgence they feature a spade on the back of their suit - considering that's my symbol i've adopted for several reasons, deltarune being one of them. we go way back.
swatchlings have uv light vision!! they also have uv light markings only other swatchlings can see!! they have a event/holiday where they paint on their bodies where their invisible markings are to celebrate their differences! literally! each swatchling has a totally unique marking, that is not determined by anything! it's generated randomly upon hatching. (grows in like a day or two after hatching.) this is how swatchlings differentiate each other even if they may otherwise look the same! they also all like being unique, using make up and cool hair styles and outfits... a luxury working specific datapack swatchlings may not have - so they got these markings, since nobody else can see 'em!
clambert has a pet tasque named perci. she has a complicated, long name but i keep forgetting it. and i keep forgetting to save it. im not asking my friend to remind me agian currently it is lost in like a year worth of instagram dm scrolling and i dont even go there anymore.
blank's design is inspired by ena!
hash was originally just a named background character... that appeared in a little thing i wrote. just like, an possible dpau intro? it made sense for me to use a regular visitor character, and i gave them a name... but my friends loved them a lot so... hash is an oc now! they are also inspired by almond cookie. they are a maskless swatchling, too
also, my other maskless swatchling oc, tag, was a concept for a loong time before i finished her design. i was stuck on the name.. but... tag was an obvious choice. since yknow. hash. tag. lmao
brodi adobi and his company is based on adobe, obviously. his design is inspired by portal colors, and his voice claim is jave johnson. he hates lemons. also, he knows almost nothing about art, he just sells art supply shit. he goes on a lot of talk shows.
malina is an lightner oc, that i have had since before deltarune chapter 2. hell, she was actually an undertale oc first, made around 2020, as i have realized i never had a proper undertale oc.... i really like nicecream guy, so i made him a sister character! i then decided to make her a deltarune character with chapter 2, as she now fit in there way better! she has her own story- HOWEVER. The story of the main cast is... very seperated from the main story of DPAU. She follows just the main cast, but she does exist in DPAU and my headcanons to her story apply! she's best friends with sweet cap'n cakes! and scratch. because why wouldn't i put my self insert there
oh yeah, scratch is my deltarune sona and basically self insert!! they are the fourth member of sweet cap'n cakes. they are based on a soundboard and a karaoke machine! they were also inspired by napster and hatsune miku, and gamer headphones with cat ears. they are also very self indulgent with my color choices. they're me, but a silly music robot who makes ytps on the spot, and is just silly goofy 24/7 without the problems real me has
i did write a short chapter thingy with malina!! i have like... entire scenes thought out for her how she follows along with the gang in the main game. this... slipped out of my head mostly, id have to read my old notes. she also has a snowgrave route!! and that also splits into like.. 2 "endings" and both are! not good! so no arms ?
malina is also a florist! and unlike me she enjoys doing it! i regret my school choice and this is a random cry for help! she helps out asgore at his store. also, some of the experiences she talks about kris with, and some little experiences i have made up for them, kris, and noelle and their whole lil' gang while they were kids are based on some stuff i did as a kid myself
snooper isn't an important character in dpau, he just exists there, but i love this beast. his hair is the twitter logo, he says l+ratio unironically, and his speech pattern is inspired by quagsire in from PMD. he has his own page on my website! not just that, but a whole mystery fun hunt! if you go there you can even get his petz mod of himself :D
blank also has corrupted speech, similar to spamton. just.. more fucke.d no advertising, just fucked. imagine a walking glitchy ytp. been compared to withered chica's voice. he can also make static noises and his voice can change tones as well. he also quotes movies and past experiences which will sound exactly the same as they did before. he's like a fucked up radio. his speech is very annoying to write at times, but here's some old examples back before i gave up on adding all the effects and jumbles while rping. msot of the time he is like... audible just glitchy. when extremely emotional his voice breaks more. OK. NOW TO THE EXAMPLES.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
icon censored because i hate the art. also blank uses he/they pronouns, but he/him is his primary. back then i used they/them on him more. he is sososoosos fucked up <333333
sometimes he just does this.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
oh yeah did i tell you he almost constantly oozes goop from his mouth and eyes? my man's fucked up
maddison canonically plays fortnite and im leaving you at that. more facts later. i set a reminder to do something an hour ago and i still havent done it . i told you i can talk about this au for long

Spherical Astrolabe
An unusual object in the collection of the History of Science Museum collection built in 1480’s
Most astrolabes are flat objects that represent the changing night sky by rotating an interior star chart
Tumblr media
Manuscript descriptions of the spherical astrolabe exist, in Arabic, Latin, and even Catalan; and other medieval records imply that they did exist among the possessions of mathematicians. But in modern times no example was known until 1962, when an object offered for sale through Sotheby's was identified by the curator of the Museum of the History of Science, Francis Maddison, as a spherical astrolabe. It remains the only complete spherical astrolabe known to be extant.
Tumblr media
In spite of its being signed and dated, little can be said of its origins. Unusually for an Arab the maker signs with a single name, Mūsa (the Arabic equivalent of Moses, and quite a common name). He is known only from this one instrument. The date of A.H. 885 also tells us little. It is over two centuries after the classic treatises on the instrument were written, and rather late in the period to which the style of workmanship belongs.
Tumblr media
The general style, and in particular the use of Kufic lettering and damascened lettering and decoration, place it in the Syro-Egyptian region, where the centres of craftsmanship were Cairo and Damascus. The silver damascening clearly signals it as a skilfully made and very costly object.
