hii! i am in love with your works. i've read itysg(ainly) several times and cyanide twice T.T you deserve all the love, you've become one of my top 3 comfort authors <3
i have a quick question. do you have a compilation of your abyss lore somewhere? like how you can't cry in the abyss because the salt attracts the enemies (i sincerely hope that is from you and i'm not confusing it with someone else's T.T) uhh, cause i intend to base my research on it :) no issue tho if not
oh! no i don't think i have it anywhere, but it's no trouble to me to just- dump it all here, so-
i'll leave it under the cut, but tysm!! good luck writing and obviously feel free to tweak and change stuff to better fit whatever you're going for!
ok so- this is going to be about canon-genshin's abyss. the only difference between that one and cyanide's abyss is a lack of rhinedottir creatures, so.
landscape
i've always been torn between if the abyss is like- just a small area, like within a huge cave; or if it's its own entire realm altogether. like a whole other world, with its own continents and all that. it feels so limiting to make it only a cave, but it also feels a bit too strange to make it just- mirror teyvat. idk anyway,
under the assumption that it's not as big as teyvat but larger than just a cave, we could look at it like one large landmass surrounded by ocean
the moon spire is off one of the coasts, around the rainforest area
the easiest way to think about it is probably like minecraft's nether. like the overworld is all open sky and lots of biomes while the nether is all claustrophobic and with only a handful of biomes
i think it'd be cool if it's rainforest and badlands/savanna/desert. but not like sumeru- to me sumeru's rainforest is very much like the jungle in madagascar and the desert is like the sandbanks in africa. i think the abyss could be more like the amazon's rainforest, tighter, a lot less giant fantastical trees and more- 'where the fuck am i, i can hardly see thru the vegetation' sort of place. and the desert more like the usa's stereotypical cacti and tumbleweed all dry land and rocky cliffs.
since irminsul's roots have to be down there and i think the abyss is whacky enough to meld with whatever dimension irminsul resides in, then i think we could literally have massive petrified roots in the middle of the continent. like just- sprouting out of the ground and making this gigantic thing that you could theoretically see from everywhere if it wasn't so fucking dark. in cyanide here would be where the primordial one would've been sealed to in the original abyss, right in the center.
the rainforest area would be full of winding, impossibly deep rivers- like all of them deep like the mariana trench. wet mist hollows and just- general amazon rainforest inconveniences. if you've ever been there you know what i mean. i think it'd be even more fucked up if it doesn't rain, though.
the desert part would be a death sentence, hence why skirk sticks to the rainforest most times, esp while with childe
the area with irminsul's roots would be like a giant haunted forest/cave system, full of the only sources of natural light down there (some glowing moss and insects)
climate
damp and wet-feeling but it's not water, it's abyssal miasma. like it all feels like a sauna. the temperatures would go from uncomfortably kinda-hot in the day to fucking freezing at nigth.
the rainforest feels even wetter but again, not water. everytime you breathe it feels like you have to force your lungs to take in the air. again, if you've ever been to a jungle or rainforest, you know what i mean.
the desert parts would be unbearably hot, but the heat would come from the ground itself, so you'd feel feverish the entire time - it'd be cool if the sands were obnoxiously red from high iron oxides to make it even worse. the more bearable places would be up on the rock cliffs and outcrops, but since they're the more livable places, that means most of the creatures are also up there. speaking of,
creatures
the rifthounds are in the higher areas of the rainforest, almost a tundra, bordering the roots, where the wolflord has its lair and territory. not edible bc they contain aluminum and other not-safe-for-humans metals, and also there's hardly any meat in them lmao.
the giant clay worm(s) lives underground in the lowland rainforest and nobody has really seen it, so it's a non-issue. it's massive, and the reason why the marshlands on a different side of the rainforest exist. i think it'd be interesting if nobody knew whether it's one giant one or multiple giants. also this would be the cause of quakes in the abyss, it's just whenever the thing moves there would be a tremble in the ground
steelclaw harpies are out in the rocky outcrops of the dessert, hence why you'd be forced to walk the superheated base ground instead of going up. if you've ever seen a harpy eagle, just think that but like- the size of a person, and a bit more dinosaur-esque.
the glass rain whale. kinda like the giant clay worm in that hardly anyone sees it, only when it rains glass over the sea (not the land) you can see it come out of the ocean and fly around. the meagre light of the moon makes it seem almost transluscent, like a ghost whale. it couldn't be the all-devouring narwhal bc it wouldn't make sense lore-wise, but it could be similar-looking.
pillar rats are- well, giant rats that live in the canyons and desert. they call them pillar rats because they climb up sheer cliffaces like it's nothing. also they can scratch through pretty much anything, and have very thick hides, so if you need warm clothes that's what you want to hunt
stonetusk hogs are the easiest animal to catch in the rainforest marshlands, but the meat isn't all that tasty. they're blind, like most other creatures. not that big. like- fucked up versions of genshin's boars.
praying goliaths are giant mantis-like mutant bugs that live in the rainforest. they're big big, like twice the size of a person big, and they're best avoided. you can tell where one passed through by the path of cut down vegetation they leave behind as they move, using their front legs as sharp scythes.
canyon rhinos live in both the canyons and the fog hollows. they're practically bulletproof, fuck-off ugly, and very dangerous. blind from overuse of moping ferns (that grow in the hollows) to hide the salt in their eyes. good food if you can catch them
wraith butterflies are around the water deposits and clay banks of the rainforest and always in the hunt for salt. they have sharp legs to perch on hosts and poisonous powder between their wings. yes they're the ones that make crying a bad idea.
stalkwalkers are the kings of the fog hollows and the reason why you don't go there if you're smart. i have mentioned plenty that they're physically inspired by made in abyss' turbinid-dragon (ryuuzazai?). basically a giant six-legged giraffe/seahorse looking thing. the stalkwalkers would have retractable harpoon-like stalks (stillettos) that they use to walk through the forest and to hunt. massive and blind, see through echolocation.
misc
the concentration of abyssal miasma would be a lot more forgiving around irminsul's roots. basically everything is just better around irminsul's roots, but because it's so nice there, most creatures also go there, so no. the wolflord has set up camp nearby also.
it's dark. like there's no light besides the lackustre light of the moon and the glowing moss in irminsul's roots, so all creatures see through either abyssal miasmic sight or a form of echolocation.
you can't plant foreign crops, the soil won't accept it
most root vegetables aren't safe to eat. rooties are though
there's bugs that fuck with your sleep cycles to weaken you
the sand is black
there's almost no fish in the ocean, so it's not worth it to stay on the shores
it's also not worth it to stay generally uncovered from the moon's light bc it has a weird-ass radiation, like the sun.
i think that's all i had? there's probably some bits and pieces of other things about how the abyss filters the miasma and how all creatures evolved to use it since it's the only available energy down there, but i think that's been repeated enough in the fics hahah
anyway yeah! hope that's what you meant. if not oh well, it was probably about time i compiled it all,,

Happy Friday everyone!! It's almost Spoopy Day, so I've gone through my MFL offline list, picked four random fics that came up in my "Halloween" term search, and I'm promoting them here for you today!
AND the boosted fic this week is a mystery, so it works!!
Happy Haunting!!
SIGNAL BOOSTING
Reichenbach Falls by VeeTheRee (M, 551,435+ w., 105/303 Ch. || WiP || Gravity Falls /  Multifandom AU || Alternate First Meeting, Gay Sherlock, Mutual Pining, Unilock, Summer Romance/Love, Fluff, Insecure Sherlock, Villain Mary, First Kiss, Slow Burn, Doctor Who, Supernatural, Canadian John, French Canadian Lestrade, Insecure Sherlock, Mystery, Domestic Fluff, Developing Relationship Summer Love, Light Angst, BAMF! John, Case Fic) – Two Canadians, two Brits studying in Canada, and an upkeeper walk into a Mystery Shack…. and live there. Summer holidays are here, and the step-siblings, Irene Adler and Sherlock Holmes, find themselves in a boring town called Reichenbach Falls, Oregon, USA. It isn’t as boring as it seems, however, once Sherlock stumbles upon a mystery journal, and the author is unknown. The journal contains ciphers, a strange colour wheel, and information about magical creatures that are said to be looming in the Northwestern forests. With mysteries to solve in hand, he and Irene set out to get to the roots of the town, and the abrupt disappearance of the author of the journal. But they’re not alone - John Watson, quite the handsome nephew of the Mystery Shack owner Greg Lestrade, is on their side to help out, plus mess with Sherlock’s feelings, in a good way. Shenanigans, romance, fun, danger, and deductions ensue. Oh, and there’s also occasional SuperWhoLock and two dorky Winchester brothers to spark up the action later on. Part 1 of the Reichenbach Falls series
MARKED FOR LATER HALLOWEEN FICS
One Good Scare by blueink3 (M, 17,386 w., 1 Ch. || Post S4, Holmes Family, Parentlock, Misunderstandings, Family, Fluff and Angst, Jealousy, Halloween, Happy Ending) – Mummy invites Sherlock, John, and Rosie to the country for her birthday, which just so happens to coincide with the annual Harvest Festival, an event Sherlock loathes. With John seemingly making the wrong move at every turn and with ghosts hiding in each of their closets, what will it take for their (Halloween) masks to finally come off?
the napoleon by darcylindbergh (E, 24,823 w., 4 Ch. || 1980′s AU || Halloween, Action & Romance, Costumes, Costume Parties/Masquerades, Mutual Pining, First Kiss / Time) – Halloween, 1989: John and Sherlock both have big plans for the night, but serial killers have the worst possible timing.
From a Well, Dark and Deep by Vulpesmellifera (M, 32,691 w., 18 Ch. || Post S4, Supernatural Elements, Horror / Milld Body Horror, Bed Sharing, Possession, Hand Holding, Whump, Hurt/Comfort, Friends to Lovers, Coming Out, Alternating POV, Nightmares, Caring John, Happy Ending) – Sherlock Holmes is desperately trying to reconcile his newfound memories and feelings within his transport—a transport that won’t quit with the nightmares and the strange, fiddly anxieties that crop up at the most inopportune moments. On the advice of his psychiatrist—not that he’s thrilled to be taking the man’s advice, but needs must—he's going to mark the anniversary of Eurus’ torments. That explains why he visits the well. What he finds at the well, though, is entirely unexpected. Meanwhile, John Watson has finally come to terms with something he’s ignored his entire life. He’s ready to share that something with Sherlock, except Sherlock isn’t acting himself. It's not the time for confessions, and John determines he must get to the bottom of his best friend's affliction before he can reveal anything. Part 3 of Vulpes' Halloween Johnlock
This Is Family by SaraStarchild (T, 39,840 w., 16 Ch. || Hereditary AU || Psychological Horror, Body Horror, Demonic Possession, POV Third Person Limited, Protective Mycroft, Cults, Mycroft Whump, Sherlock Whump, Major Character Death, Graphic Violence, Retelling) – When the Holmes family's secretive mother and matriarch, Ellen Holmes, passes away, the family she leaves behind – father Martin, sons Mycroft and Sherlock, and daughter Eurus – begins to unravel cryptic and increasingly terrifying secrets about their ancestry. The more they discover, the more they find themselves trying to outrun the sinister fate they seem to have inherited. This is, pretty much, a word-for-word retelling of the 2018 Ari Aster film, Hereditary. Part 1 of Sherlock Halloween Stories

Boo!
Hey there, fellow paranormal enthusiasts! 👻
Are you fascinated by the mysteries of the spirit world? Do you find yourself pondering the existence of ghosts and the stories that surround them? Well, you're in for a spooky treat because we're about to dive into the intriguing realm of the paranormal.
1. What Are Ghosts?
First things first, let's talk about the basics. Ghosts are often described as the spirits of the deceased who haven't yet moved on to the afterlife. These restless souls have a way of making themselves known to the living. But how? Here are a few common types of hauntings:
Residual Haunting: Ever heard of a "looping" ghost? This type of haunting is like a recording that plays over and over. Imagine footsteps that echo down a hallway or whispers that never cease.
Intelligent Haunting: In these cases, the spirits are conscious and can interact with the living. They might move objects, whisper in your ear, or even make themselves visible.
Poltergeists: A poltergeist is known for its mischievous behavior, often throwing things around, making loud noises, and causing general havoc.
2. Haunted Places Around the World
Haunted places can be found all around the world, and many of them have intriguing stories and legends associated with them. There are people who travel to these places just to see these haunted locations. Here are some famous haunted places from different regions of the world:
Eastern State Penitentiary, Philadelphia, USA: This historic prison is known for its severe conditions and housed infamous criminals like Al Capone. Visitors report hearing whispers and footsteps in the empty halls.
Tower of London, London, UK: This historic fortress has a dark history of imprisonment and execution. The ghosts of Anne Boleyn and other executed prisoners are said to haunt the tower.
Aokigahara Forest, Japan: Also known as the Suicide Forest, this dense forest at the base of Mount Fuji is known for its eerie atmosphere. Many believe it's haunted by the spirits of those who have taken their own lives there.
Château de Brissac, France: This beautiful castle is said to be haunted by the Green Lady, the spirit of Charlotte of France, who was murdered in the castle. She's often seen wearing her green dress.
Monte Cristo Homestead, Australia: This historic house is considered Australia's most haunted location. The ghost of a caretaker who died on the property, along with other spirits, is believed to roam the house.
Poveglia Island, Italy: This abandoned island near Venice is considered one of the most haunted places in Italy. It was once a quarantine station for plague victims and later an insane asylum. The island is said to be cursed.
Château de Châteaubriant, France: This medieval castle is believed to be haunted by the ghost of Françoise de Foix, who was killed by her jealous husband. Her ghost is often seen in the castle's chapel.
Banff Springs Hotel, Canada: This luxurious hotel in the Canadian Rockies is said to be haunted by several spirits, including a bride who died on her wedding day.
Poenari Castle, Romania: Often associated with Vlad the Impaler, this castle is believed to be haunted by its victims. It's known for its eerie, remote location.
Bhangarh Fort, India: This 17th-century fort is one of the most haunted places in India. Legend has it that a curse befell the town, and people believe it's cursed to this day.
These are just a few examples, and there are countless other haunted places with their own unique stories from around the world. If you're interested in paranormal phenomena and enjoy exploring the unknown, these locations offer a mix of history, mystery, and ghostly tales.
3. Famous Ghost Stories
The world is filled with spine-tingling ghost stories. Some classics include "The Grey Lady of Hampton Court," "The Headless Horseman of Sleepy Hollow," and "The Bell Witch." These tales have been passed down through generations, giving us goosebumps to this day.
Here are a few famous ghost stories from around the world:
The Brown Lady of Raynham Hall - Located in Norfolk, England, Raynham Hall is said to be haunted by the ghost of Lady Dorothy Walpole. Her ghost, known as the Brown Lady, is famous for a photograph taken in 1936 that appears to show her descending a staircase.
The Tower of London - The Tower of London, with its long and storied history, is said to be haunted by various ghosts, including Anne Boleyn, the beheaded wife of King Henry VIII, and the Princes in the Tower, who were murdered as part of a succession dispute.
The Bell Witch - The Bell Witch Haunting is a famous American ghost story from the early 19th century. The spirit tormented the Bell family in Adams, Tennessee, and its story has been the basis for books and movies.
The RMS Queen Mary - This ocean liner, now permanently docked in Long Beach, California, is believed to be one of the most haunted places in the United States. It served as a troopship during WWII and is said to be haunted by the spirits of soldiers who died on board.
The Brown Mountain Lights - In North Carolina, mysterious lights have been reported for over a century on Brown Mountain. These unexplained phenomena are the basis for numerous ghost stories and legends.
The Grey Lady of Dudley Castle - Dudley Castle in the West Midlands, England, is said to be home to the Grey Lady, believed to be the ghost of Dorothy Beaumont, who died in 1646.
The Myrtles Plantation - Located in Louisiana, the Myrtles Plantation is considered one of America's most haunted homes. It's said to be haunted by the ghosts of former slaves and the victims of a violent history.
The Enfield Poltergeist - The Enfield Poltergeist is a famous case of a supposed haunting in a North London home in the 1970s. The story was the basis for the film "The Conjuring 2."
4. Tools of the Trade
Here are some commonly used tools in ghost hunting:
Electromagnetic Field (EMF) Meters: EMF meters measure electromagnetic fields. Ghost hunters use these to detect fluctuations in electromagnetic energy, which is believed to be associated with the presence of spirits.
Digital Voice Recorders: Investigators use these to capture Electronic Voice Phenomena (EVP). These are unexplained voices or sounds believed to be of paranormal origin. The digital format allows for easy sharing and analysis.
Spirit Boxes: These are specialized devices that scan through radio frequencies in real-time. It is believed that spirits can manipulate these frequencies to communicate.
Infrared Thermometers: These tools help detect changes in temperature. Cold spots or sudden drops in temperature are sometimes associated with paranormal activity.
Full-Spectrum Cameras: These cameras capture a wider range of light than the human eye can see. They are used to capture any anomalies or unexplained lights.
Dowsing Rods: Sometimes referred to as divining rods, dowsing rods are used to locate energy or entities. The rods are believed to cross or move when an area of interest is encountered.
Ghost Hunting Apps: There are several apps available for smartphones designed to detect paranormal activity. These apps often include EMF meters, EVP recorders, and more.
Night Vision Goggles: These help investigators see in the dark. Many believe that ghosts are more active at night, so night vision equipment is crucial.
Motion Detectors: Devices that trigger an alarm or a light when motion is detected. They are used to alert investigators to any unseen presence.
Static Night Vision Cameras: These cameras are often set up in known haunted locations to capture continuous footage over long periods. They can catch any movement or apparitions.
Ouija Boards: Though controversial, some investigators use Ouija boards to attempt communication with spirits. These are not recommended for the inexperienced.
Sage or Incense: Used for smudging rituals. Many believe that burning sage or incense can help cleanse a space of negative energy or unwanted entities.
In addition to the more commonly used tools in ghost hunting, there are some less common or experimental tools that paranormal investigators may use. These tools are not as widely accepted in the field and are often considered more experimental or unconventional. Here are a few less common ghost-hunting tools:
Ghost Hunting Apps: While some paranormal investigators use smartphone apps for convenience, these are often less trusted than dedicated physical devices. Some apps claim to detect electromagnetic fields, record EVPs, or provide other ghost-hunting features. However, their accuracy and reliability are often questioned.
Ghost Radar Devices: These electronic devices claim to detect and communicate with spirits. They often use random word generators or other algorithms to produce words or phrases believed to be messages from the other side.
SLS (Structured Light Sensor) Camera: This specialized camera is used to detect and map out anomalies or apparitions in space by projecting a grid of infrared dots. If a spirit or entity interferes with this grid, it may appear as a figure on the camera screen.
Trigger Objects: These are items placed in a location with the hope that a spirit will interact with them. For example, investigators may leave out toys, musical instruments, or objects of historical significance. The idea is that if a spirit moves or interacts with the object, it may indicate its presence
Diving Rods and Pendulums: Similar to dowsing rods, divining rods or pendulums are used to seek out energy or entities. They often involve a hanging object that responds to energy by moving or swinging.
Ghost Boxes and Shack Hacks: These are modified AM/FM radios that continuously scan through frequencies, creating a steady stream of noise. Ghost hunters believe that spirits can manipulate this audio to communicate
Parabolic Microphones: These highly directional microphones are used to pick up faint sounds and whispers. Investigators hope to capture EVPs or other unexplained audio phenomena.
Crystal Pendulums: Used in dowsing and divination, some ghost hunters employ crystal pendulums to seek answers to yes-or-no questions or locate energy sources.
Psychics and Mediums: While not tools in the traditional sense, some paranormal investigators work with psychics and mediums to sense, communicate with, or interpret the presence of spirits.
5. Can Ghosts Really Communicate?
Whether you believe in Ouija boards, seances, or EVP sessions, there are many ways people attempt to communicate with spirits. The results vary from uneventful to spine-chilling, and the debate continues.
That's it for today, ghost hunters! Remember, the paranormal world is a vast and mysterious one. Whether you're a skeptic or a true believer, there's always room for a little spookiness in your life.
Stay curious, and keep exploring the unexplained. Who knows what otherworldly encounters might be waiting just around the corner? Until next time, embrace the unknown and be sure to check the closets and under the bed before you sleep tonight! 😉🌙👻

The New "Nicolet High School" - Article #001
by FoxWithAKeyboard / CosmicSoda
Written: 13th August 2022
A forest presumed to be haunted is perhaps the last place you would expect to find a school, however this isn’t the case for the Nicolet National Forest in Wisconsin, USA.
The school opened some time within the past few weeks, with no permit authorising its construction. No scaffolding or construction of any kind was witnessed by wanderers or park rangers and it has proved quite difficult to navigate to.
It goes a mile off the marked paths and seems more as if it was messily placed in a shrouded area of trees rather than built due to the short time it took to appear.
The school has a metal fence surrounding, similar to that of a prison meant to protect those outside its walls. It’s constructed similarly to a run-down British primary school but slightly larger and more threatening. I doubt any child would set foot inside but then again I don’t see the world through the eyes of a 10 year old.
The school has a sign proudly placed in front of the metal bars proclaiming that they are “The Highest Rated High School in Wisconsin”. Because the school currently has no pupils this is bogus and a fraudulent attempt for students to enrol.
I asked my assistant Tye to monitor the building and he has some outlandish claims.
First off, he mentioned how there were “12 slender figures in suits with tentacles”. Perhaps that is his unflattering way of describing white Americans.
The “Playground” is a glorified cage with a basketball hoop and a wooden bench which “seems only big enough for 4 children.”
The rooms within are what make me the most fearful.
Most seem bland, the walls painted an off-white with a few tables and chairs. At the front of each, a blackboard with chalk. A whiteboard and pens would’ve been more appropriate given the times but it isn’t a major issue.
What shocked me however, was Tye’s description of what he called a “surgeons home”. He does exaggerate often but from the fear in his voice over the phone I think that this is mostly accurate.
There was a table with tools spread across it, laced in blood and uncleaned. If it had a hygiene rating it would be lower than 0.
There was a plastic operation table, with a gas mask (presumably for anaesthetics).
To the side, by the refrigerator, were mini coolers that looked more like bland lunch boxes.
I wish for the best when this school opens in the coming weeks, and I pray my fears aren’t confirmed.
Dear readers, keep your eyes peeled for any suspicious activity in the Nicolet Forest area.

He's always been the master of his life... until she crashed into it.
Waking the Dragon by Lia Davis & Lainie Anderson is coming soon!
Universal Preorder: https://geni.us/WakingtheDragon
My life was a series of calculated risks and narrow escapes—until I stumbled upon Stock Creek, a picturesque town that promised solace from my haunted past. I'm Erin Montgomery, once just another face in the bustling streets of Chicago, now the wary owner of a cozy bed-and-breakfast. I believed I could start anew here, surrounded by the warm embrace of nature and the quirky charm of small-town living.
But Stock Creek is more than it seems, and so am I. My heart still races at night, not just from the memories of the cold steel pressed against my temple or the scent of gunpowder, but from the piercing green eyes of Ashton—a man shrouded in as much mystery as the town itself. A dragon-shifter with scales as dark as the secrets he keeps, his presence ignites a fire within me that I cannot quell.
Ashton's whispers are like a balm to my scarred soul, but his touch? It's an inferno that promises to consume us both. They say fate brought us together, two beings caught in the relentless storm of our intertwined destinies. He's the protector I never knew I needed; the missing piece that makes sense of my fragmented world. But even as we grow closer, danger lurks in the shadows, a reminder that my past is never too far behind.
***
I never believed in destiny. As a dragon-shifter living among humans, I've always been a master of my own fate—until Erin Montgomery crashed into my life like a tempest with eyes the color of a wild forest and hair like autumn's most daring flame.
She doesn't know it yet, but Erin is my fated mate. She sees me as the mysterious stranger who strolled into her B&B and saved her life. But our connection runs deeper than she can imagine. I can feel the pulse of her blood like the beat of a drum, calling to the very core of my being.
Erin's in danger and doesn't even know it. The shadows that chased her from the city streets of Chicago to the deceptive calm of Stock Creek are closing in. And I'll burn the world to ash before I let them touch her.

He only comes out at night when everyone Falls asleep he can either come in your dream or he can come in the forest next to your house! That being said his IQ is 2000,
He is very agile and has no pain Reception. He is very agile and can move from one end of the universe to the other, as well as he could come in here and visit you and your dreams to kill you. That being said, he is also in the forest, probably feasting on a deer carcass!
He doesn't look like it, but he's actually a brilliant person with a 2000 IQ his one thing is he likes, is the forest. Especially at night when there is nothing around, except for the odd deer to eat or if you are unlucky enough to go around to be eaten by him in your campsite, he usually comes in winter time to haunt you in your dreams is too actually, kill you as if to bring it to the next life. He is not as compassionate as a Grim Reaper and he is more interested in feeding off your body as well as your soul!
Alias are also : Saint of damnation

It's The Water
Lithia Park is a beautiful park, and I don't say that as a biased local. It was added to the National Register of Historic Places in 1982, contains a Japanese Garden, and spans below the stages of the Oregon Shakespeare Festival. The park itself is 93 acres of forest surrounded Ashland Creek and there has not been a day I have visited that was not full of tourists. Tourists are the life blood of Ashland and the park continues to be one of the bigger draws.
It even has a Tripadvisor page.
But me talking about a beautiful park isn't why you are here. Ashland was established in 1852 and with such longevity (for the USA), tales of ghosts are bound to occur. Ashland has many ghosts, the most famous being the Blue Lady or the Blue Girl. Story goes a poor woman was raped and murdered in the park. Since there, her ghost appears as a blue mist traveling the park, staying near to the multiple duck ponds. She is known to cross the road winding the park, leaving drivers with a cold chill as she passes through vehicles.
Another famous ghost that haunts the area is The Logger. Alleged to have been killed in a work accident, he continues to walk the park, whistling with his drinking jug as an instrument.
What I find to be the oddest part of Ashland isn't it's semi-famous ghosts but it's semi-famous water. During the turn of the 20th Century, there was a health fad of drinking waters rich in minerals, one of the most famous one being Saratoga Springs in New York state. Saratoga Springs and Ashland have the distiction of both being near lithium-loaded springs and in 1911, Ashland attempted to become as famous as Saratoga Springs.
The city paid for water from the lithium oxide spring to be delivered in the down town of Ashland. However, this venture did not produce a famous spa, mostly because the health fad was no longer in style, but did produce a free-flowing fountain that is still in use to this day. Another tourist draw, it sits open to the public rain or shine, to taste a bygone fad.
Lithia water's alleged health benefits include uplifting mood and mental calm, while there has been some findings of the water assisting kidney function. For what it is worth, it tastes and smells like boiled eggs.

Stanley Nelson to talk about ’66 murder of Ben Chester White at Sept. 26 meeting of Natchez Historical Society
Tumblr media
Stanley Nelson, author of “Devils Walking” and “Klan of Devils"
By Roscoe Barnes III
Natchez, MS, USA / ListenUpYall.com
Sep 11, 2023 | 2:53 p.m.
NATCHEZ, Miss. – The killing of Ben Chester White, one of the brutal murders that occurred in Natchez during the civil rights movement in the 1960s, will be discussed by Stanley Nelson at the Tuesday, Sept. 26, meeting of the Natchez Historical Society.
The meeting will begin with a social at 5:30 p.m. and Nelson’s presentation at 6 p.m., at the Historic Natchez Foundation at 108 S. Commerce St. The event is free to the public.
Nelson’s presentation is titled, “Murder on Pretty Creek: New Revelations on an Old Case.” It will focus on White, the 67-year-old Black man who was murdered in 1966 by the Ku Klux Klan. Nelson will talk about his alleged killers, two of whom, Ernest Avants and James Lloyd Jones, were charged but not convicted in 1967; and a third one, Claude Fuller, who was never brought to trial.
Nelson said Avants was convicted decades later in federal court and died in prison a short time after his conviction.
“The murder of Ben Chester White is one of the most haunting cases I have ever worked on,” said Nelson. “One Klansman confessed his involvement in the murder and identified the other two Klansmen involved. Yet a jury couldn’t reach a verdict in the confessor’s case because at least two Klansmen were on the jury.”
Nelson is the author of “Devils Walking: Klan Murders Along the Mississippi River in the 1960s (LSU Press, 2016) and “Klans of Devils: The Murder of a black Louisiana Deputy Sheriff” (LSU, 2021). He was the longtime editor of the Concordia Sentinel in Ferriday, La.
“Mr. Nelson has long held a justifiable reputation in Natchez as being as or more effective than the FBI in sleuthing out the terror-network here that was the Klan,” said Alan Wolf, a director of the society and its program chair. “Mr. Nelson promises to be true to form at this important coming presentation.”
The alleged killers reportedly drove to White’s house on June 10, 1966, and lured him away with the promise that they would pay him two dollars to help find a dog. White, according to Nelson, was gentle man, who was known to be kind and even timid when it came to challenging the authority of a white man. He was not active in politics or the civil rights movement.
Nelson reported the story as follows:
After White got into their car, they took him to the Pretty Creek bridge in Homochitto National Forest. The men got out of the car with Fuller grabbing an automatic carbine and Avants, a shotgun. Fuller said to White, “All right, Pop, get out.”
White said, “Oh, Lord, what have I done to deserve this?”
Fuller unloaded 17 rounds into White, and Avant finished him off with a shotgun blast to his head. They threw his body over the bridge and onto the bank of Pretty Creek.
Nelson said the killing was said to be a set-up for another murder: “There also were stories that this was a murder ordered by higher ups in the White Knights to draw Martin Luther King to Natchez in protest where Klansmen would assassinate him. But was this really true? We’ll be sharing never before reported information about this and on other aspects of the case at the NHS meeting.”
The society’s program featuring Nelson is funded in part by a grant from the Mississippi Humanities Council through funding by the National Endowment for the Humanities.
For more information on this NHS event, call 601-492-3000 or send email to [email protected]

omg i was feeling better for like 2 hrs but then i saw a post on here that is like maybe the worst thing ive read all day. and now i am feeling despair again
#purrs#going to close this app and go watch minecraft build videos again bc that’s the only thing that distracts me rn. but it sucks. it sucks so#bad. how easy it is to be knocked down like this by a stupid post and how frightened and hopeless and small i feel. like wtf. and i know i s#said this but it’s like the mindset shift thing i rbed a few minutes ago right? like i am supposed to be the BEACON. i am supposed to have t#the hope and give it to people who don’t have it. but what do i do when /i/ don’t have it. that is antithetical to the entire enterprise.#and it does not bode well for our work working lol. like given what i know i should never ever doubt or fear or anything again. and the#sayings are literally brace yourself the world is broken and we’re braving the storm etc etc but right now all that’s going on in my head an#and heart are BROKEEEEEEEEEEEN!!!!!! STOOOOOOOOOOORM!!!!!!! HHEEEEEEEELLPPPPP!!!!!! and not like oh! brace. brave. ok yeah i can do that#and to be fair i don’t think anyone is feeling that way ever probably and that’s why you can’t be a beacon of hope if you haven’t known#hopelessness and don’t fight to overcome it every day. but right now knowing i need to be a beacon is only making me feel more hopeless. and#i know the beacon feeling bc ive been there before but idk if this will pass bc like uhmmmmmm… i live in the fucking death trap that is the#usa. but it might but also idk. i just am haunted by 2 things. number 1 that the most basic simplest thi ng s in life like starting a family#of my own and having a stable living situation might be out of my reach bc i was born at the wrong time. and number 2 that especially in the#last 2 years but also always there are such HORRORS happening and yet so many of them we don’t feel and it’s like out in nature the forest i#is still just the forest and it’s like for these birds and squirrels etc they don’t even know there’s a pandemic and nothing abt their lives#has changed in 2 yrs (that has substantially impacted their way / qualify of life anyway). and i know everything in my save tag refutes this#and also that if lia heard me saying this shit she’d say in effect why don’t you go write a poem and calm down. but part of me wants to feel#hopeless i think because there’s a security in feeling doomed bc to fight it takes strength and courage and is maybe scarier. but i am just#exhausted and grieving rn except the grief i am feeling is NOTHING compared to other griefs others feel and have felt. but yeah this is also#day 4 of living here again and maybe by day 14 or whatever i’ll be feeli ng stronger and more normal but the last few days have been so#fucking hard and so much about my life is different in ways that are hard right now. so i have to just deal with that and adjust and mayhe p#plunge myself into a piece of media like i have done w every other major transition in my life and somehow haven’t done w this one yet but t#that might just give me a break from my stupid broken brain and then i’ll come back and be normal. bc today i could barely get out of bed#delete later

Spook Of The Day #198 • Cursed California - the story of Griffiths Park
Creepy forests are the go to aesthetic for horror fans like me - but this haunted location has actually featured in feel good movie La La Land despite its terrible reputation.
Don Antonio Feliz, a wealthy bachelor, owned the forest and lived there with his niece in the 19th century. When he fell ill and died, however, he gave his inheritance to a politician and not to his niece.
She wasn’t very happy about it. So, she cursed it.
"The wrath of heaven and the vengeance of hell shall fall upon this place.”
Each and every subsequent owner of the land faced terrible situations with the land, from fires to tragic deaths. Even satanic rituals and murders have been reported there.
Spooky.
Hit follow to hear something spooky everyday and don’t forget to check out the link in the bio to hear real ghost stories!

EngPort Headcanon 4
England and Portugal are par excellence the dynamic "friends who become lovers" but it is necessary to understand how that friendship is formed, as it will be the basis for developing romantic feelings between them in the future.
That is the central theme of this post: The sweet childhood.
Today there is no song as the central theme but my engport playlist is very long (I have approximately 80 songs in it) so I will only mention a fragment of these. Let's get started.
Childhood as nations: an impossible reality.
For certain things shown in the anime and manga I feel that it is important to remember that the characters are not human ... in a biological way. We must give importance to this fact because it lets us know that they experience life in a very different way than human beings.
Above all, a point in their lives that is remarkably different because they are nations is their childhood and a character who portrays this conflict well is USA, when we see him being the thirteen colonies he looks like a small child and usually acts like one, but as time passes and tensions grow in his territory, he undergoes a most abrupt transformation, although the series makes us believe that he really spent a considerable time, it was not like that and in a very short time USA lost his childish body and his own innocent mentality to obtain in exchange, the body of a young adult and a much clearer vision of the world and what was happening in it - and consequently a much more cruel and pessimistic vision of life.
What gives rise to a strange and disturbing scene but that makes a lot of sense if we consider that they are not human, the scene I am talking about is that moment in which USA is a full-fledged adult in physical and mentality while Canada looks like a child and acts accordingly like one.
These abrupt changes that nations are facing is a cruel reality from which they cannot escape and over which they have no control, their entire image and essence will depend on the decisions of their people.
With this in mind, let's continue: a well-known fact of the engport is that they are friends from a very young age and regardless of when you consider that they were each born.
-Was Portugal Lusitania ?, Was England Albion ?, Is Portugal born until the creation of her kingdom ?, Is England greater ?, etc-, we know that the lives of England and Portugal come together very soon.
According to Himayura, England's childhood is one of the most tragic, he was constantly harassed when he was small, weak and defenseless, which explains several traits of his character, looking at the history books, we know that Portugal did not sleep precisely on laurales, he also suffered from invasions and great stress -in fact all countries had complicated childhoods, only sadly there are some who have more bitter experiences in their memory-, with this panorama we see that the time that usually in human beings is of the happier, it was a true hell without any distinction and almost without exceptions for the nations.
To make matters worse, they, unlike other children, could maintain their illusion and innocence in several areas but their minds were already processing and understanding what was happening around them and even if it was difficult for them to do because they were young, they had no options and it was their duty to understand it.
Which must have been frankly overwhelming, since these characters from a very early age had to become familiar with dark concepts such as death, murder, famine, etc.
For what England and Portugal had behind them a difficult, lonely, isolated life and where began little by little the power games that would become more ruthless over time, it is at this moment where they meet.
They could meet at a time when they were still little children, who at any moment could undergo an abrupt change like the one I mentioned about USA where his body changed abruptly and his mind too, that is, they passed adolescence. And in fact both will face this rugged stage together.
Seeing their relationship I think it is very relevant that it occurred in these early years, it was not early enough for them to define each other to a primary degree - what happens with England and France that when they met from a very young age inadvertently molded their identities mutually. - and it was not too late for it to cost horrors to draw a political alliance because they had suffered enough and were distrustful who refused to establish close and deep connections with new people, no.
They were at the right point, where they had already suffered several wounds - betrayals, significant losses, wars, etc - that needed to be healed and they were still accompanied by a certain naivety / illusion that allowed them to keep alive their desire to meet others and wish a real affection - as real as it can be between nations - they were still hopeful in the bottom of their hearts.
Arthur and Port were able to offer themselves in that time full of tension, confusion and loss an Eden, the firm point on which I believe engport is based - and the one that caused its wear and tear in the years to come and its rebirth-.
An Eden is a safe and wonderful place, it is a refuge where they could be two happy children who played in the forest forgetting the pain, where they spoke of their most fanciful illusions without being judged, where they were two teenagers who were together against the world and spoken about their sadness, of they anger and they changing world:
And I've been meaning to tell you
I think your house is haunted
Your dad is always mad and that must be why
I think you should come live with me
And we can be pirates
Then you won't have to cry
Or hide in the closet
(Seven-Taylor Swift)
I put this fragment here because I think it clearly shows this idea of the eden, where both allowed themselves to create a sense of peace, that emotion that was and has been absent their entire existence until they met. A feeling that they cling to desperately to continue standing in that insensitive world in which they lived, not knowing what the future held but more encouraged that whatever it was they could bear it as long as they had their Eden together.

Little do they know one guest has a surprise for them.
Four films will be making their North American debuts at the festival. In addition to The Retaliators, Richard Waters’s dark folk horror Bring Out The Fear traps its protagonists in an unsolvable maze where a sinister presence awaits; Clare Foley stars in the sci-fi horror The Changed where an alien presence takes possession of the hearts and minds of her city; and Isolation depicts nine tales of terror which are woven together as remote people work to survive an increasingly deadly outbreak.

The festival will also feature a Special Presentation of Daniel Farrands’s Aileen Wuornos: American Boogeyman starring Peyton List and Lydia Hearst, which follows the notorious killer through a little known chapter of her life in Deland, Florida.
“After a challenging year for cinema, we are excited to return to our home at the TCL Chinese Theatre for our latest lineup of frights,'' says festival founder Rachel Belofsky. “While last year’s drive-ins allowed us to continue to celebrate horror films as a community, we have missed the magic of the traditional theatrical experience.”
Formed in August 2001 by film producer Rachel Belofsky, Screamfest Horror Film Festival is a female-run 501(c)(3) non-profit organization that gives filmmakers and screenwriters in the horror and science fiction genres a venue to have their work showcased in the film industry.

She's starting over in a mysterious small town that's home to a very intriguing man...Waking the Dragon by Lia Davis& Lainie Anderson is available for preorder now!
Universal: https://geni.us/WakingtheDragon My life was a series of calculated risks and narrow escapes—until I stumbled upon Stock Creek, a picturesque town that promised solace from my haunted past.

January 4, 2021: First Blood (Epilogue)
So, uh...
Tumblr media
Yeah. Basically. That movie was amazing, seriously, holy...
But before I jump into the review, I think I promised that I would clear up the reason that the first act made me so uncomfortable. And I’ll just say the following things to clear it up:
Last year was a hellscape for many reasons, especially in the USA.
The first act of the movie highlights police brutality and the unlawful persecution of a disadvantaged citizen.
Current events of 2020 may have been haunting to me personally because of a particular facet of my...oh fuck it.
I am Black American, and the police brutality shit set me off because of BLM.
There. It is out. And we shall now move forward. Seriously, though, looking at that through 2020-stained lenses...whoof. REVIEW TIME
Recap
Tumblr media
Cast and Acting
I had no idea that Stallone had it in him. Seriously, wow, the ending monlogue that he gives is the longest that he speaks since the very beginning of the film, and you can feel the pain in his delivery, both when he’s shouting his lines, and when he’s sobbing them. Other than being a badass, Stallone gives Rambo an inner pain that should be implied by his status as a Vietnam War veteran...but one that I still was not expecting. It was fantastic. And he’s not the only one! Brian Dennehy plays a dedicated slimeball, and does it well. Richard Crenna as Trautman is also good in his role, and the rest of the supporting cast does their job well. Even Caruso, for the tiny role that he has, is at least a little memorable. I have no complaints about the cast or the acting, real talk.
Cast and Acting: 10/10

Plot and Writing
Stallone puts pen to paper once again, which he was able to do because of his success with Rocky (which I am now VERY much looking forward to). And yeah, the writing here is pretty good throughout, excelling once again in that ending dialogue, even though Stallone’s delivery really pulls it off. As for the rest, it’s good, even if it has the typically dramatic tone seen in most of Stallone’s films. Michael Kozoll and William Sackheim also deserve credit for this script, which took 18 drafts until completion. As for the story, it was based off of a book by David Morrel published ten years prior. From what I know, Stallone made sure to make Rambo FAR MORE SYMPATHETIC than he was in the book, while making the Sheriff a lot more villainous. The ending from the book is also changed. And it does indeed work well, even though the changes made were drastic. You should check out CineFix’s YouTube video on this film if you’d like to know more.

Directing and Action
Ted Kotcheff is the director for this baby, and he does a great job! Cinematography is good, even if it isn’t the most amazing cinematography I’ve ever seen. But the action? Check out that clip in the GIF above! And the one below! The action in this movie is AWESOME, and the action sequences are fantastic. So, even if the directing isn’t too much to write home about, the action certainly is!

Production Design
Production design is the new term I’ll be using to describe costume and set design from here on out. And...yeah, it’s great again! I feel the haunting spirit of the woods, and that spirit is John Rambo. While the lighting sometimes leaves something to be desired, Rambo’s final look, as well as the iconic forest sequence and setting, makes this category stand out above average, at the very least.
Production Design: 8/10

Music and Sound
I’ll be honest...I don’t like the ending credits song. Took me out of the tone of the emotional ending. But the rest of the score, composed by Jerry Goldsmith, is awesome! It’s not the most memorable score in the world, but it still heightens the experience of the film while you’re in it, that’s for sure. If anything, the film takes great advantage of silence. And that, in and of itself, is an achievement.
Music and Sound: 8/10
Tumblr media
86%. That’s my final score. And that’s pretty damn good. Personally, I like it more than that, but I’m comfortable with that score.
This movie is an example of what I’m hoping to get out of this whole year: an unexpected delight of an experience. I mean, my God, I was NOT expecting to like this movie in the way I like it. The depiction of PTSD in this film is one of the first of its kind, and it seems to be done very well. I’m not a psychologist, but I was still severely affected by this movie. Made me really feel for John Rambo. I always thought that I would like the action sequences, but really wasn’t expecting to like Stallone’s acting. All I know is that I’m looking forward to seeing Rocky, and other Stallone movies.
Wow. First Blood, man. Made me think, made me cheer, made me undergo my own form of 2020-related PTSD. What else can you ask for? Well...maybe not the last part.
Tumblr media
OK, then. Two Cruises, two Stallones. Who’s next? I mean...wait..oh. Uh-oh.
