You’d known Dean all your life, practically. You met him when you were six and he was eight; two lonely little kids stuck with absent (job-driven) fathers and baby brothers you felt responsible for. Over the course of the last eighteen-or-so years you ran into the Winchesters during hunts enough that you considered them family.
When Sam left for college you were there for Dean and when you lost your dad in a hunting accident Dean was there for you. He actually stayed with you, not wanting you to hunt alone since your brother was off at college too.
So, for the last six months you’d been hunting with Dean (who hadn’t spoken to Sam for over a year).
“One room, two queens,” Dean said to the woman behind the counter, placing “his” credit card on the space between them before sliding it toward her.
“We’re all booked up I’m afraid,” she said.
“Seriously?”
“Yeah, I was actually about to turn on the no vacancy sign.”
“This is the third motel we’ve been to,” you said, “every one of them has been full—you’ve gotta have something!”
“I mean, there’s technically one room left but the heater’s out and my boss said not to let anyone sleep there because of that.”
There was a silent pause; you and Dean shared a knowing look.
“We’ll pay in cash, your boss ‘ll never know,” you told the woman. She smiled and nodded as you paid her with cash.
“Room 209, my boss gets here at ten tomorrow morning so please leave before then.” She handed you the key and you nodded in thanks.
You had underestimated just how cold the room could be, but when you unlocked and opened the door you understood why the owner didn’t want anyone staying here.
“Son of a bitch,” Dean mumbled, following you into the room and feeling the cold air. “We’re gonna freeze our asses off in here!” he quickly closed the door behind him, hoping the icy air hadn’t swept any snow into the room.
“It’s either this or we sleep in the Impala,” you shrugged, “and, no offense to your car, but it’s fuckin’ uncomfortable to sleep in.”
“And there’s only one bed,” Dean sighed.
“I’m gonna take a quick shower,” you told him, ignoring his complaints.
**
“Are you shivering or crying?” Dean asked.
You rolled over so you could meet his stare; “Shivering! It’s fuckin’ cold in here!”
“You wanna…cuddle up, maybe?” he asked hesitantly.
“Excuse me?” you laughed a little.
“Look, I’m not thrilled about it either, but it’s cold in here and unless we both wanna catch fucking pneumonia we better be smart and share body heat.”
You sighed, weighing your options; “Fine. But we never, and I mean never speak of this again, you hear me?”
“Understood.” He nodded.
You rolled back over as he scooted closer to you. He wrapped his arms around your waist from behind, pulling you into his chest.
“This okay?” he asked quietly, his lips ghosting the back of your head.
“Yeah,” you mumbled back. “Thank you, Dean.”
**
You woke up to the sound of Dean snoring loudly. You were used to his snores, sure, but he’d never been this close. He was laying on his stomach and resting on your chest; his mouth open and his hair tickling your neck. Your first reaction was annoyance but then it quickly washed away as you realized you didn’t want to move a muscle, so Dean could continue sleeping.
And the more you laid there, listening to his snores, the more you realized how comfortable you were…even in such a physically uncomfortable situation.
As the time passed and the sun began to rise, you cursed the light that was slowly but surely peeking through the curtain and onto Dean’s face.
“Morning,” he mumbled to you as he lifted his head up. He rubbed his eyes with the back of his right hand before wiping his mouth. “Sorry,” he chuckled, noticing the small spot on your gray sweater dampened with his drool.
“It’s okay,” you mumbled back. “I think it’s your sweater anyway.”
“I thought it looked familiar.”
He rolled off of you and out of bed.
You watched as he padded across the dirty carpet and over to the small kitchen. He turned on the coffee maker and the loud, off putting grinding noise made his face scrunch before he quickly shut off the (definitely broken) machine.
“So much for coffee,” he grumbled. “You gonna sit there all morning or you wanna get outta here? We’ve got a long drive ahead of us.”
“I’m getting up,” you replied. You would usually be annoyed at him for rushing you to wake up, but this time the annoyance was…different. Something about his bedhead, the way his lips were pouting over the lack of caffeine, and how he looked in his brown Henley and baggy sweats just made you wanna hold him again. All you wanted was to pull him back into bed with you and hold him in your arms forever.
**
You were beyond frustrated at this point. How many stupid fucking hotels had to have vacant rooms with two beds and a functional heating system!?
It had been nearly six months since you and Dean shared a bed and you had been looking for an excuse to sleep next to him ever since.
But the last couple weeks had been different—Sammy was back. Yes, you loved Sam like a brother, but you missed getting to be alone with Dean. You missed sitting shotgun in the Impala and watching him drive.
Sam definitely noticed the way you looked at Dean, but the younger Winchester didn’t say a word. Without being too obvious about it, he tried to do little things that would let you be close to his brother. He’d sit in a certain chair or part of the couch so that you and Dean had no choice but to sit together. Or he’d make some lame excuse so that he got his own room while you and Dean had to share. “I need to do some more research and I need the light, why don’t you two just sleep in the other room?” for example.
**
“Two rooms, please,” Dean said, reaching into his coat pocket for his wallet.
“Unfortunately we’ve only got one room left,” the cashier replied.
You almost couldn’t believe your ears, fucking finally!
“Oh, that’s too bad,” you faked your best frustrated look, of course Sam saw right through that.
“Well, I am not sharing with either or you,” he said with a teasing smile.
“There’s actually a pullout couch in that room, as luck would have it,” the cashier informed the three of you.
God fucking damn it, you thought to yourself.
**
It was barely after two when you felt the bed behind you dip, and you shook yourself awake.
“The hell?” you asked, still half asleep.
“The pullout couch isn’t working,” Dean mumbled quietly. “You mind sharing with me?”
You smiled a little and scooted closer into his arms, indicating you were okay with him sleeping next to you.
“Of course I don’t mind sharing with you,” you whispered and his grip tightened.
**
“I’m gonna go get breakfast,” Sam announced. “I’m assuming you want your usual?”
Dean put his right pointer finger to his lips and furrowed his brows angrily. He gestured to you as you slept and Sam got the message.
“Usual is good,” Dean whispered before Sam left.
Dean stayed laying perfectly still as you slept on his chest, soft snores escaping your lips and to Dean they were the sweetest sound.
As you stirred awake slowly, he rubbed your back a little.
“Morning,” you mumbled, a small smile on your lips. “Where’s Sam?”
“He went to grab breakfast,” Dean told you.
You furrowed your brows as you sat up, looked across the room, and realized something; “The pullout bed looks fine? I thought you said it wasn’t working?” You turned back to Dean, who had a sheepish grin growing on his lips.
“So…maybe I’ve just been looking for an excuse to sleep next to you again. Like we did back in that motel when the heat was out.”
“Really?” You attempted to hide the smile trying to find its way onto your face.
“When we were checking in last night I noticed how your face lit up when they said there was only one room left,” Dean admitted. “And I saw that disappointed look you made when they said there was a pullout couch. So, am I wrong, or have you been wanting an excuse too?”
“I really liked sleeping next to you that night,” you said, avoiding eye contact. “And you’re right, I have been hoping for another ‘oh no just one bed, guess we’ll have to share’ situation but…”
“But what?” Dean asked when you trailed off. You looked down at him.
“Dean, you and Sam have been like my brothers for as long as I can remember. I mean, Bobby practically raised all three of us and my actual brother as siblings! Your dad and my dad knew each other basically forever and I guess…I guess I figured our lives are too entangled for anything to ever actually happen between us. We’re family.”
“Chosen family, Y/n.” Dean smiled softly. “Doesn’t mean you have to be my chosen sister, you could be my chosen…you know…”
You leaned down and placed a soft kiss on his full lips.
“That,” Dean finished his previous statement.
“Let’s just keep this between us for now, okay?” you suggested. “If Sam finds out, then your dad will find out, and he’ll immediately tell my brother, then before we know it Bobby—”
“I get the picture, sweetheart,” Dean chuckled before kissing you again. He put his hands on your cheeks as he sat up. He pulled you onto his lap, your legs now straddling his hips. His hands moved to your shoulders then trailed down to your lower back as yours went into his hair. You pulled away from him after a moment, huge smiles on both your faces.
You looked into his eyes, his truly beautiful eyes, and you bit your bottom lip ever so slightly. Your right hand rested on his left cheek, your thumb stroking his skin lovingly.
“You’re awesome, Dean Winchester,” you whispered.
“You’re fuckin’ incredible,” he replied before he kissed you again. “And gorgeous, too,” he added. “You know how fuckin’ annoying it’s been, sleeping without you every night since that one time?”
“I do know, Dean, I’ve been just as annoyed about it.”
Dean kissed you one more time before he wrapped his arms around you in a tight embrace, tucking his head into your neck. You wrapped your arms around him too, pressing your lips to his temple.
You pulled out of the hug so you could once again look at his face. Resting your forehead on his, you smiled before you kissed him again.
“Breakfast,” Sam called out as he opened the door, “is served!”
You and Dean froze for a split second before you hurried off of him.
“Shit, I’m sorry,” Sam said, “did I interrupt you two?”
“What?” you scoffed. “Of course not!”
“Interrupt? There’s nothing to interrupt?” Dean added.
“Oh…wow you two are fast,” Sam mumbled, shaking his head as he made his way to the kitchen before putting the food down. “Well, pancakes, eggs, and bacon from the continental breakfast.” He gestured to the food now on the table. “Hope you’re hungry.”
As Sam sat down to eat, you looked at Dean anxiously. Say something you begged him with your eyes.
“Sammy,” Dean started as he got out of bed, “would you mind uh…not telling dad? About me and Y/n…kissing just now? When we find him, I mean.”
“Dad’s never really been invested in your love life, but he’s not an idiot,” Sam laughed.
“So…you are gonna tell him?” Dean furrowed his brows in frustration.
“Dean, he knows you two are together, it’s not some big secret?” Sam replied, shoveling more food into his mouth. “Damn that’s good.”
“Okay, just hold on—what?” Dean asked. “What do you mean dad knows? There’s been nothing to know since like four minutes ago?”
“Wait,” Sam stopped eating and fully turned to face you and his brother, “are you trying to tell me this is the first time you two have kissed?” Sam furrowed his brows deeply as you and Dean both nodded. “So…never in high school?” You shook your heads again. “That prom we crashed?”
“Sam you were there the whole time? When would we have kissed?” you asked.
“Huh,” Sam let out a laugh. “I genuinely thought you two had been a thing since like… ‘98.”
“What!?” you and Dean exclaimed in unison.

"And the kiss. Oh, Vanessa, the kiss was something else!" You exclaim, helping to set up the Christmas decorations around the class.
It was only the day after Thanksgiving which means the Christmas season was now in full swing. Stepping up on the small stepping stool to hang the green tinsel over the whiteboard.
"It sounds like you had a good night. What's the problem then?" Vanessa sets up the miniature Christmas tree in the corner.
"I did. Everything was going so well. Dare I say perfectly, until his phone was going off non stop from someone named Hanna saying things like 'when am I gonna see you again' and 'I can't stop thinking about our night together'"
Vanessa gasps. "So what did Jungkook say?" You chew on our bottom lip, "He was putting Ryan to bed in the other room, so he wasn't there when I saw those messages pop up." She tsks.
"I tried to tell you. Nothing good comes from dealing with a parent." You sighed heavily, looking out the window at the playground that was covered in a thick white blanket of snow.
"I know, but I couldn't help it. Him and his stupid smile and his pretty eyes." Vanessa hums smugly. "I'm sure Hanna thinks the same thing." You groan. She's right.
"You're right, I shouldn't get involved. She could be the mother of his child for all I know."
"For your own sake. You better pray she's not. Ex's are a royal pain in the-"
"Good Morning." Vanessa interrupts her own words as she greets the parents that walked in.
Crouching near the bookshelf while you organized the fallen books, from the corner of your eye you were able to pick up on the entrance of your minor headache. Not Ryan, of course, his father.
Ryan was just a sweetheart who greeted you with a hug so tight that he'd knocked you out of your crouched position onto your bum. "Ryan! Be careful." You'd never heard Jungkook's voice so stern. You make sure the boy is okay and help him back to his feet before moving your hair back to where it should be.
"Sorry, Ms. Hill." He apologizes with those big brown eyes that he clearly gets from his dad. "It's okay, I'm fine." You reassure with a smile and he runs off.
Jungkook offers you his hand to help you up but you stand on your own, dusting off your jeans with a clearing of your throat. "Are you okay?" He asks.
"Yeah, I'm okay. I promise. I landed on the carpet."
"That's not what I meant." He says.
Taking a quick glance around the classroom, noticing some parents still making their way in and out of the classroom and the kids making their way to their seats. "You know, now really isn't a good time-" About to move out of his way, he steps in front of you.
Instinctively your eyes rolled, trying to remember what Vanessa told you. Not to get involved. "I know you saw the texts. Let me explain." You shake your head, "It's none of my business, there's nothing to explain. You should get going. I wouldn't want you to be late for work."
With that said, you walk away, heading towards the desks where your students waited patiently for instruction.
Jungkook walked out of the daycare that day deflated and unable to think about anything aside from you, and that look in your eyes. Like you were disappointed, as if you had high hopes for him and he let you down.
He thought he could just move past it, maybe even accept that things wouldn't work out between the two of you, but seeing you everyday, smiling with all the other parents and giving him nothing more than a simple head acknowledgement was killing him.
As much as he wanted to explain himself, he didn't want to force himself into your life. He wanted you to want to hear him out, even if that meant the two of you not talking much or at all for a few weeks then he was going to have to be okay with that.
But there were some days he had to physically restrain himself from breaking the no-contact. He remembers the day vividly. It was the first week back from winter break, maybe he was so pent up because he hadn't been able to see you for two weeks or if it was how good you looked in your leggings.
All he knows is that somewhere between that mix and you squatting to pick something from off the ground, for the briefest of seconds he'd caught sight of the strappy black thong that rose over your hips before they were hidden once again under your bottoms.
No one would've noticed it. No one that wasn't mildly obsessed with you that is. He quickly sent Ryan off and left for work. Managing to somehow squeeze in 13 hours of work into an 8 hour shift, he'd overcompensated as a means to distract himself.
"So you guys just haven't talked since you shooed him?" Vanessa asks for clarification, wrapping her scarf securely around her neck, getting ready to head out after offering you a ride which you couldn't object to, weather conditions were worsening as you were entering the heart of winter in the middle of January.
"I didn't shoo him, but I definitely would've handled things differently if I knew he would start avoiding me. I didn't want things to end like this." You explain, digging your hands deep into your pockets the moment the two of you stepped outside. The chilling air blew in your hair and around your earmuffs with determination.
You strapped yourself in passenger seat, "So you didn't actually want things to end?" With your head laying back on the headrest you puffed out a stressed breath, unintentionally making a small circle of condensation on your window. Like a child you drew a little heart in the middle.
"I thought I did, y'know? Wanted to do what you said and stay away, but maybe I got hasty." She hums oddly, making a ominous "Mhm" sound. "What does that mean?" She pulls out of the parking lot slowly, the snow was really falling tonight, laying on the ground in thick increments.
"Nothing." Turning to face her with your body, "No, no. Say it."
"I've been here. You know I've been here, I've been in a very similar position, but I did somehow manage to get a decent outcome, but things could've gotten much worse, not just for the relationship but for his kid at the time. So, I guess what I'm saying is, take this little break to really think about if this is the kind of thing you want to get yourself involved in."
You nodded, sitting with your hands in your lap like an obedient child. Really taking what Vanessa was saying into deep consideration. Deciding to reflect on it for the rest of the car ride to your building.
"What a day." You sigh, as you drop your keys onto the small counter you kept near the door.
The first thing you noticed was how cold it was inside your apartment, as if trying to compete with the flurrying outdoors. "Why is it so cold in here?" You whisper to yourself.
Flicking on the lights, or at least that's what you wanted. "What the--" the switch flies up then down then up again with the tip of your finger as you restlessly try to turn the lights on. "You've got to be joking."
Wrapping yourself tighter into your jacket as you walk through your dark apartment, relying on the sheer memorization of the layout to get you to the bathroom where you tried turning on the tap. Nothing.
The pipes must've frozen. and the snowstorm blew out your power.
This was great news for you, you'd always loved the movie Frozen and now you get to experience it first hand!!
"You've reached the voicemail box of--"
"Fuck you!" You shout at your phone after 5 hours and the twelfth attempt you'd made at calling your landlord. He's always been an asshole but ignoring his tenants when they were freezing to death is an all new low even for him.
You'd managed to wrap yourself in a blanket burrito surrounded by the 4 candles you were able to light before your hands began to freeze. Your body was barely managing to keep warm until you remembered the small cheap space heater you'd bought from a thrift store a few years back.
But it was buried deep in your closet. However, it took you no time to find it as you dug through the mountains of miscellaneous objects and finally pulled it out from the bottom.
Rushing to plug it in with desperation. Then you remembered. There was no power. As badly as you wanted to scream and toss the heater across your dimly lit room, you didn't. Instead you sat quietly in your burrito and began to cry.
What if this was it?
Tomorrow your students would find out their teacher had frozen to death. Were you being dramatic? You weren't even sure. You're not even sure how they would react, but you're sure the parents would be shocked- and Jungkook.
Jungkook.
"Jungkook!" You gasp. Your freezing hands reaching for your phone, trying to type in his number as fast as you could but your joints felt like they were dead locked in place and moved 1 key per minute.
The phone began to ring, and ring,,,
On the other end of the line, Jungkook was also having a pretty rough night. Laying on his bed with his bare stomach facing the ceiling eyes wide open and his brain a never ending circus.
He tried to focus on his breathing, but he couldn't sleep.
He hasn't been able to get a good sleep for a few months now.
Turning on his side he looked at the picture of him and Ryan at his third birthday party. He was so much smaller then. 'I looked so happy' he thinks to himself with a sad smile on his face.
Beginning to wish that Ryan was with him in that moment but he knew it was for the best that he'd dropped him at his parents' for the weekend. He was beginning to enter one of those episodes and he couldn't stop it, no matter how badly he wanted to, no matter how hard he tries to.
Ryan deserved a father who could be happy all the time-- He sits up. Holding his head in his hands, taking deep breaths. Erasing those thoughts- trying to. Slowly letting his vision roam back to his night stand drawer where he kept his pills.
God, was it always going to be like this?
Lifelessly he reached for the handle and pulled it open, his hands blindly reaching for the cylindrical bottle and unscrewing the cap taking the recommended dose before putting it away.
He lays back down with a soft grunt, staring up at the ceiling tumultuously. Resting his hands on his firm core, focusing on the way it rises and falls with every breath, thinking about the day it stops. The day he's no longer sentenced to the time he's currently serving in his own mind-
"I should try to get some sleep" He mumbles to no one in particular.
His eyes shoot open after a mere 3 seconds of being closed. He listens to it ring, ring and ring, not sure he's in the mood to be taking any calls right now.
Though, it may be his parents with an emergency. He finds himself rolling onto his stomach, more than shocked to see your name pop up on his phone.
"Hello?"
"H-Hi! It's me. I'm sorry if I woke you up," Your voice was refreshing, like the first ray of sunshine after a dark and stormy night or the smell of fresh coffee in the morning.
"No, you didn't wake me. What's up?" You weren't sure if you were looking too deep into things but he sounded different. His voice was flatter, none of that familiar bubbly hint to be found in it, then again, It was nearly one in the morning.
"You probably don't remember but you gave me your card, and said if I ever had any technical issues I could give you a call," your teeth were chattering, prompting you to wrap yourself even tighter.
"I remember." How could he forget.
"Yea! Well, my apartment has no power or running water, so its pretty cold over here, and I was wondering if you had any tips or tricks on how to get something to work."
He sits up abruptly. "What?"
"Yeah, my landlord is pretty shitty and hasn't answered my calls, I'm not even sure if maintenance is available or even knows about the situation themselves." You hear some muffling on the other end assuming he'd dropped his phone but it was actually Jungkook rushing to put on a shirt.
"Hello?" you say blankly, wondering if you'd lost connection.
"It's a fucking snowstorm outside. You'll freeze." You laugh, and that stops him in his tracks for a moment, "Oh I know, I'm getting a little taste of that right now actually. Do you by any chance know what the first signs of frostbite are?"
"Send me your address, I'm coming to get you."
"No, Jungkook. I wont let you do that, the roads are terrible." He doesn't respond, or maybe he does, you couldn't hear over the sound of keys jingling.
Clearly it was useless trying to change his mind, and the last thing you'd want is for him to go out of his way for nothing so you sent him your address.
What would usually be 15 minute drive had turned into 40 with the poor weather conditions but it wasn't any more than an hour before you heard knocking on your door.
Still wrapped in your thick blankets you opened it.
"Are you alright? How do you feel?" Jungkook inspects you, taking your hands in his, "You're ice cold." He says, reaching into his jacket pocket and placing his hand warmers in yours. "Keep those, they'll help you warm up." He insists.
"Do you have everything?" You nod while briefly raising your overnight bag. "Okay, let's go."
The drive over was silent, you somehow managed to fit your seatbelt over your jacket and blanket that you couldn't part with. Jungkook periodically looked over to se if you were okay, never actually saying anything but the concern in his eyes was evident with every glance.
The first step inside his place gave you chills, the good kind, finally. Not the ones that left you shaking for warmth. It was so warm, Jungkook took your bag while walking you towards the living room as he turned on the fireplace, suggesting you warm up before doing anything else.
"Here," He hands you a warm mug of hot chamomile with a bit of honey for sweetness. "Thank you, Jungkook. For everything." You say sincerely, afraid you'd be repaying him for all the times he'd saved your ass in this life and the next.
"Don't mention it." Unwilling to accept such a humble response, "No. I'm serious. I disturbed your night, and you dropped everything to help me." He smiles for the first time all night, it was a small one but it was still a smile.
"I told you, already. I wasn't doing anything. I'm actually glad you called, it was nice to get out of my head for a bit." your head tilts unconsciously at that last part. "Nevermind." Checking his watch, it was nearly three in the morning.
"I set up your stuff in my room. It's getting pretty late, you should get some rest." Your eyes were feeling pretty heavy now that he mentioned it, you didn't fight it. Slowly standing from the pile of throw overs you'd buried yourself underneath making your way upstairs.
"Wait." You pause at the first step.
"Where's Ryan?" You should've realized sooner, but what could you say, you were a bit wrapped up earlier. Literally. "He's at his grandparents, probably snoring right now as we speak." You smile.
You'd gotten ready, taking a much needed shower and tying your hair back into two braids so that they would have some soft waves for tomorrow.
You sat cross legged on Jungkook's bed with your MacBook on your lap as you went through some of the classroom picture's you were yet to send to parents from the Winter Wonderland Concert the daycare had put on last week.
"Hey," Your head snaps up to see Jungkook peeking his head through the door, "I just wanted to say Goodnight." He says and you smile, but you'd just come across something you're sure he would love to see.
"Come look at this video of Ryan singing his interpretation of the opera singer we had perform last week." Jungkook sits beside you on the bed with his legs stretched out in front of him.
He paused when he turned to look at you, "What?" Your face is puzzled at his concentrated expression. "I didn't know you wore glasses?" He says and it reminds you that this was the first time he'd seen you with lenses on, or anyone for that matter.
"Yeah, I usually wear contacts-- Look! This is the part," You get distracted as the video begins to play. And somehow one video turns into five and the computer slides off your lap into the gap between the both of you as your head laid against his padded shoulder.
You'd fallen asleep. Slowly Jungkook closes the laptop and places it on the nightstand, even more carefully removing your glasses and placing them on top of the stowed away device.
Letting you down gently until your head hits the pillow, he sneakily begins to slip out of your grasp. "Stay." You say, your eyes closed and body still. Maybe he was hearing things. He shakes it off and begins to step away.
"Please, m'Cold." You mumble into the pillow with your eyes still shut.
"Do you want me to turn up the heat?" He offers like the gentleman he is, for the first time he saw a sign of consciousness as you slightly shake your head. "I want you to stay, please?"
He was nervous. Settling himself under the convers with you, remaining as far as possible and turning off the bedside lamp. Within two minutes his body froze as you'd rolled over from your side until your head was on his chest.
He wonders if you could feel the way his heart was racing.
you could.
"Relax," you quip, half-awake. Oddly enough, that actually does help him to relax, his arm instinctively wrapping around your waist for comfort. Feeling your body against his didn't trigger his perversions as he once thought it would.
It felt so much better than that. He felt, comfortable. The way your body radiated a calming heat onto him and reassured him that someone was both physically and emotionally present was just enough to lull him to sleep.
As the night morphed into a radiant sunrise you began to stir in your sleep. Your limbs stretching across the the grey sheets and soft blankets while the tips of your fingers roamed the surface.
Slowly remembering where you were and realizing you were in the bed alone. Though you specifically remember going to sleep with him. When did he get up?
Tugging down the leg of your sweatpants that had rolled up at the ankle at some point during your blissful sleep. Rubbing your eyes as you stepped into the bathroom to brush your teeth before finally following that pleasant scent that was wafting around the house.
"Still avoiding me?" You joke as you laid your eyes on Jungkook's broad back that was facing you as he flipped pancakes. He turns to you with a lopsided smile.
"Avoiding you?" Nodding, letting your hands trace the back of the chair before taking a seat at the island, watching him.
"Yeah, you've been avoiding me since thanksgiving." His brows furrow then raise in a mix of confusion and astonishment. "Me? I have not been avoiding you. I was giving you space."
Bracing your hands down on the countertop you shake your head. "Yes you have. Every day you see me and just leave, not a good morning or anything."
Jungkook flips this battered treat a little harder than he should. "Yeah, because the last time I had tried to talk to you, you made it pretty clear you didn't want to talk, so why would I force it?"
You sigh. Vanessa was right, maybe you did shoo him. "I didn't mean to disregard you so inconsiderately, I was just-- I don't know what I was feeling in that moment, honestly." He turns to face you once again, leaning back on the counter.
"I know, that's why I wanted to explain myself." Your eyes watch his buff chest raise and fall as he takes a deep breath, "My eyes are up here." He points between the two of you, and you felt like you could just fall over and die.
You clear your throat, deciding that you simply couldn't make eye contact with him at all after that!
He notices your embarrassed body language, "Hey, I was just joking, I don't mind your eyes wandering a little." He teases and it somehow made your face even hotter, you were afraid you would burst into flames.
"Just-Just go back to what you were saying." You almost plead as you run a hand through your wavy hair.
Jungkook plates the last pancake on to your elegantly presented plate, before sliding it in front of you. Making a plate for himself he decides to eat standing up in front of you with his plate on the counter you could maintain direct eye contact.
"I met Hana about a year ago at Ryan's old school before we switched here. She's another parent I'd met at one of their events. I was going through a lot of shit back then, so relationships were the furthest thing from my mind but one night about 6 months ago, our kids were away at a summer camp for 2 days; and after a few play dates over the prior months, she'd called me to let me know that Ryan had left one of his toys at her place. So I went to pick it up, but we ended up talking, had a few drinks and one thing led to another and then shit hit the roof." He sighs before taking a bite of his breakfast, which is delicious by the way.
Your head tilted to the side ever so slightly, subconsciously of course but Jungkook took it as an indication to explain. "I made sure it was clear to her it was just a one time thing and she agreed. For the first few weeks I thought we were on the same page, but then she started calling me and leaving these... desperate voicemails. After that I already knew I wouldn't be be bringing Ryan back to that preschool, besides their teachers were terrible." You nod, no longer eating as the story kept you fed and engaged.
"At first I thought she would stop over time, but she didn't. It only got worse, so I finally called her back to let her know she needed to stop but she wanted to have the conversation in person, which sounded reasonable to me at the time, but I should've seen right through it because low and behold, the same mistake was made, once again."
"Wait," You pause him, "So when did you guys hook up the second time?" His eyes look up to the ceiling as though the answer was written on it, "Sometime around the end of August, just a few weeks before school started." The twinge of jealousy that bubbled in your stomach was undeniable but you had no right to be jealous. He literally had no idea you existed at the time.
"And she kept calling your phone all the way until Thanksgiving?" you say with a weird tone, unsure how Jungkook would've let her continue to bother him for so long. Almost with shame he nods,
"I kept saying I would get around to cutting her off once and for all, but I went to a pretty dark place, y'know how life can get sometimes. I didn't care much for anything at all, but when I saw what it had done to us," he gestures between the two of you, "I realized my negligence was driving away people that were important to me, and I didn't want to lose you. So I had ended things with her once and for all shortly after new years. Y'know, wanting to start off the year fresh and shit like that."
You swallow, "I had no idea, you were going through such a hard time." You say almost sadly but maintain the soft smile on your face. A similar one creeping onto his face, "Well then that's good. Means the antidepressants are doing their job." He chuckles and you didn't know whether to laugh along or be concerned.
"It's okay Y/n, you can laugh." You smile, "I-I just don't know what to say. All this time I was thinking I was some kind of home-wrecker or that you were seeing someone else, but to hear you explain what was actually going on makes me feel like such an idiot."
Jungkook scoffs jokingly, "Homewrecker? If Ryan's mother was still in the picture, a 'homewrecker' would be exactly what I would need, and a bullet to the head if I'm being honest." he shakes his head, remembering what he describes as the worst time in his life. Your hand boldly clasps over your mouth stifling a laugh at his dramatic expression.
He laughs, "I'm serious, though." His smile fades, "Those are seven years I can never get back." You flinch at the number, that's almost a decade. Calculations begin to roll around your head autonomously. "So-" You begin to say but he already knew where you were going with this.
"We met at 15, had Ryan at 21 unexpectedly, but no regrets of course, and broke up at 22, thank god." Releasing a calming breath of air as he says that last part, clearly they didn't end on good terms if he feels so at peace every time he mentions her absence.
"But that's enough about me for the day. How's your apartment? Any updates on the power?" You shake your head, digging back into your food, "Hopefully it should be fixed by tonight, I'd hate to over stay my welcome." Jungkook rolls his eyes, "You know I want you here more than anything, and I'm not letting you go back to your place until things are up and running again."
You didn't bother fighting him on it, you knew it would be you fighting a losing battle so you let him have it.
It would be a lie to say that you didn't enjoy your lazy Saturday with Jungkook, the two of you lounged around the house talking the day away. You watched breaking bad and kept saying that you had to stop to do some schedule planning for the kids but you couldn't seem to leave the couch, or his arms. "Just one more episode" becoming a meaningless statement.
He was seriously invested in your stories from your travels in Europe over the summer, expressing how he dreams to visit one day.
Time seemed to have zoomed for the next 3 hours, now bringing you to a dark sky and the crackling fireplace keeping you warm as you played a childish round of truth or drink.
The two of you sat comfortably on the carpet with the game cards stacked neatly on the coffee table which was also responsible for holding your shot glasses.
Your chest was already warm from the consequences of three passed questions while Jungkook only had passed two.
"Your turn," your voice bubbly and excited as you pick up the card for Jungkook, flipping it over to ask him. "What's something you've never told anyone?" He sits there, and you can see he really thinks about it. Glancing back and forth between the shot glass and the card in your hand.
"I'm a millionaire." He says it so casually, with a bit of booze in your brain you begin to die of laughter. "Yeah, me too." You snicker, slwoly beginning to quiet down as you realize he wasn't laughing with you.
"Oh my god, are you being serious?" He shrugs, "I guess so. Remember when I said I was going through a lot of shit a year ago? Well part of that stems from me getting some cryptic ass letter that basically announced the death of some rich guy who claimed to be my biological father and left me his inheritance."
You sit there quietly, "I showed my parents the letter as a gag, expecting to get a good laugh out of it and that turned out to be one of the most depressing conversations I'd ever endured." Jungkook honestly wasn't sure why he was telling you all this, he'd told you things today he never thought he'd share with anyone but there was something that let him feel like he could be open with you.
"So you're telling me, you found out you were adopted and suddenly a millionaire on the same day." A slow nodding of his head was all it took for you to see he clearly wasn't thrilled about it. "I still haven't touched the money, really. Although I did use it to cover my parents' mortgage for the next few years. I don't really know what to do with the rest of it."
A small hum escapes your throat as you ponder, "If you ever feel like it's a burden to you, don't hesitate to just pass it on to me. It'll be hard but I'm sure I could think of something to do with it." His head falls back as his body shakes slightly with his laughter, "I'll keep that in mind."
"Your turn," He says, hands reaching to flip over a card as he reads it out to you. "How many people have you slept with?" He makes a certain face at the card as if he was displeased. "This is a bit invasive, do you want me to pick up another one?" You shrug, "I don't mind answering. It's one."
"Like one this year?" It slips out before he can catch it, and he regrets it, you can tell. "No. Just one person, ever. My ex. I'm not really one to have any sexcapades. I have a rule." You're sure if he had bunny ears, one would flop up in curiosity. "Oh?"
"I never go all the way with someone until at least six months of dating them so I can see that they're all in for the right reasons. hence why only one has made it so far. Everyone else usually thinks they can like persuade me three months in." Suddenly your throat felt like it was lined with sandpaper. "Is that a deal breaker for you?" Intently you watched the way he played with the ring hooped in his bottom lip with a serious expression.
"Are you saying we're dating, Y/n?" A teasing smirk spreads across his lips. You look away, unable to handle the intensity of his gaze on your from a mere foot away. "If that's okay with you-" A gentle hand cups your jaw as he turns you to face him, taking your breath away with a sweet kiss. His lips were as soft as you remembered them to be.
You could feel a certain shift in the kiss, turning from gentle and sweet to something a little deeper. It were as though there were magnets between your bodies, you found yourselves impossibly close to the point Jungkook forced himself to pull away from you, only to welcome you to straddle his hips.
"I'm okay with that." he grins before resuming his passionate attack on your lips.
2:04am
Your glasses were on and your hair was up, that was a sign that it was time for you to finally go to sleep yet here you were. Sitting up at the table with a stack of files you'd brought from your place that you needed to go through.
The border around your eyes were tinted red as you strained to stay up and finish, but you weren't even close.
"You're still up?" Jungkook says softly as he comes down in nothing but his black sweatpants. "I could ask you the same thing." Hardly sparing him a glance as you write down numbers onto the papers.
"You know I don't sleep much ever since I got my prescription. I can get 3-4 hours at night if I'm lucky." You frown, finally looking up at him, proud of yourself for not letting your jaw hit the floor as you patrolled him as he went to fill a glass of water from the fridge.
You knew he had a sleeve of tattoos, it was one of the first things you'd noticed about him, but you had no idea his back had its own art as well. The sleeve of tattoos that creeped over the back of his shoulder as it morphed into the most beautiful pair of inked angel wings that spread out across the expanse of his upper back.
You swallowed, shaking away your filthy thoughts. "What's got you up so late?" He leans over you to get a glimpse at the papers. "Regulatory compliances." It was so cute when he was confused. "Basically I have to cross reference the curriculum with our lesson plans and report that everything we're doing is aligned with the boards' outline." It dawns on him in the form of a soft 'ah'.
"When does this have to be done by?"
"Wednesday," It comes out with a rough tone and exhausted groan, you were clearly stressed. "Okay, Y/n, it's only Sunday. How about you put a pin in it and get some rest, hm?" Warm hands are placed on your shoulders and you nearly fall asleep right there but you shake your head, "I'm fine, I can keep going-" You yawn for what must be the 4th time since Jungkook came down.
"Okay, That's it. Come on, we're going to bed." He closes your files and takes your hand, letting you hop out of the chair and follow him up the steps debatably against your will as you're sure you would've given up no longer than 15 minutes later.
The moment your head hit the pillow, you were out like a light. Jungkook chuckles to himself softly at the thought that you truly tried to argue that you weren't tired.
He slips in beside you, loving the way your body naturally detected him and began to roll over towards him just like you did the night before, slotting yourself into his side. Once again, your warmth and the soft feeling of your heartbeat on his ribcage mixing together, prompting his brain to release enough melatonin until his eyes closed.
-
"Good news." Is the first thing you say as you walk into the living room at 2pm after your well needed shower. "The power is working again at my place," Jungkook pouts at what he took as bad news, he was not-so-secretly hoping you would be staying a little longer.
"Don't look so sad, you see me literally every day." the dimple in your right cheek making a brief appearance as you smiled, making your way over to him on the couch.
"I know, but I really like having you here." You poke his cheeks that puffed up with his sad expression. "If you want to see me a little longer, then would you be okay with giving me a ride back to my place?"
He scoffs, "It's funny you thought I wasn't going to drop you off in the first place." he leans forward to drop a quick peck to your lips catching you off guard before bouncing up out of his spot, hardly giving you a chance to process.
The two of you making comfortable conversation with small giggles as you begin to put your jackets on, preparing to return you back to your apartment. Tugging your hat on with a firm pull before you picked up your bag and declared that you were ready to go.
Jungkook opened the door, stepping out with you closely behind him. Not sure if your eyes were blinded by the gleaming light that was reflected off the snow or the bright flashes of light emitted from the dozens of paparazzi camped outside the driveway.
Jungkook's name was shouted from various different people as they waved to get his attention as if being outside his front door wasn't alarming enough. Jungkook's face had been covered in disbelief just like yours, but differently he was able to shake it off and maintain his composure.
Taking your hand in a reassuring manner, he continued his path down the steps, whispering to you to keep your head down as you followed behind him. "Is it true that you're the secret son of the late business tycoon Jeon Jaehoon?" The woman holds a microphone to Jungkook, looking for an answer, and she most certainly got one.
"How about you ask me again when I make sure you're all behind bars for trespassing and harassment hm? How does that sound?" The flashes finally stop and some photographers begin to leave, Jungkook doesn't even wait for them all to leave, trusting that he got his point across clearly and makes his way to the drivers seat.
Once the doors closed it was as though you'd trapped in a foot deep layer or tension within it. Jungkook's chest rises slowly, flared nostrils and tensed brows before a slow and agitated exhaled. "It wasn't you right?" He asks.
Your posture straightens as you face him.
"What?"
"Tell me that it's all just a coincidence, Y/n. I tell you about the inheritance last night and suddenly there's paparazzi buzzing outside my house today?" Your head juts back, offended. "Are you implying that I told someone what you told me in confidence last night? Are you being serious right now?"
"I'm paranoid, okay? I'm sorry."
You sigh. As pissed as you wanted to be, you had to see it from his perspective. A swarm of paparazzi showing up less than than 24 hours after he shares the information with the first person outside his family doesn't exactly work in your favour.
"It's fine, I get it. I'd be paranoid too." He starts the car, leaving his now vacated lot behind. "Then who would do this?"
"Your guess is as good as mine."
-
The following day was as hectic as any other day but you loved your job. Working with such big personalities that were bursting out their small bodies.
But you did love the end of the day too, sayin goodbye and mentally preparing for some relaxation when you finally got home. All day you'd be fantasizing about drawing a nice warm bath with eucalyptus and lavender oils.
You thought of it as the perfect way to wind down after a long day. Although seeing Jungkook's face for a few minutes while he picked up Ryan.
"I'm here to pick up my son." You turn around with a smile, to the new and unfamiliar face. She was tall with dark long locks that were curled at the ends, her heels were high and her face was looked like it belonged billboards and magazines.
You were a bit confused, you'd never seen her before, and you're sure you'd remember someone that brought in such a domineering aura the way she did.
"Sure, if you don't mind me asking who you are." You wanted to remain as polite as possible not wanting to offend her.
"I'm Ryan's mother."

was talking about stepbro!rafe with indy ( @hanasnx ) who brought up a very valuable point and well, inspired this post.
𓍢ִ໋🌷͙֒ ᰔᩚ
before the two of you have explored your attraction to eachother, rafe acts like a real brother. just one that pushes the boundaries too far. he’ll come into your room unannounced, bored— plucking things off your shelf and asking stupid questions before coming to lean on your bed, conversing with you. he’ll ask you stuff like “so are you a virgin?” and you’ll all but clutch your pearls and send him away, wondering why he’d wanna know such a thing.
he’d also just straight up bully you, which gives you every mixed feeling imaginable. annoy him just a little bit, and he’ll wrestle you onto his bed, pinning your arms to your chest, practically laying his weight on you. “m’gonna spit in your mouth.” he threats as you thrash, yelling for ward. “yeah? yell for dad, he’s not home.” he’s stifling a laugh. you hate when he calls ward dad like you’re related.
“get off me!” you try once more, hating everything about it. from the way he was treating you from the way your cunt throbbed because of it.
“nah, open up.” he grabs your jaw, and from pure primal instinct, the subconscious nagging in your brain, you let your mouth open just a little, jaw just a little slack. his reaction is instant and you’re filled with regret, his lip twitching up and squinting his eyes in faux disgust. “oh you like that? you just— yeah don’t fuckin’ deny it i felt you open that shit up.” he accuses, tilting his head— still not letting you evade his grip as you squirm, lip trembling in embarrassment, eyes aglaze.
he’s smirking, panting in this sick kinda hyena like way as he stares down at you. “oh you’re real weird lil sis. you wanted me to spit in your mouth. didn’t you?”
that’s when you start stuttering and stammering out excuses, trying not to cry — not like he’d care if you did. “i—i just— i was confused because you tell me i should always listen to my big brother n’i just— it was instinct!”
“instinct… huh, okay…” he ponders for a moment before he leans back in, slowly this time… more calm. he pries your jaw back open, his mouth so close to yours that you can feel his hot breath on the roof of your open mouth. just when you think he’s about to actually do it, he leans back with a simple smile— shutting your mouth and patting your cheek. “gotta grow a backbone, y’know. you were really gonna just roll over n’take it because someone told you to?” he tuts, finally letting you go and pushing back up onto his knees, freeing you. “just tryna help you grow. alright?”
you don’t even move for a few seconds, still disheveled on his bed— and he pretends not to see the dark wet patch in your pyjama shorts, for both of your sake. you pretend you’re not a bit disappointed. when you sit up, he’s back to his old self and you gaze up at him curiously, wondering what switched him.
“n’stop looking at me like that, jesus. cut that slut shit out… n’get out of my room already.” he’s nonchalant, nodding to his door in gesture. you say nothing, and when you leave you hear him lock his door.

VICTORS SPOILS
Tumblr media
pairings: dark!finnick odair x fem!capitol!reader
warnings: obsession, following/stalking, creepy behaviour, naive/younger reader, age gap, (reader is 19 and finnick's around 25), non-con touching and kissing, manipulation, bj mentions/insinuations, sex mentions, prostitution mentions, finnick lowkey preying on you - descriptions of brown reader (i was self indulgent since i’m indian 😁) condescending/nit picking mother and pushy parents!
summary: a victor should be celebrated! a victor should get what ever they wish, even if it’s a sweet capitol girl who misplaced her kindness in someone who was in desperate need of reprieve and distraction.
a/n: ITS MY BIRTHDAY!!! HERES A GIFT FROM ME TO YOU ❤️GUESS WHO MADE HER OWN LITTLE HEADER GAHH!! i tried my bestttt - ive been away for a littleeee!! sorry babes <33 it was like 3am and i cooked this up in my head before opening my brewing pot (notes app) and jotting it down - NOT PROOFREAD
the hall was so loud.
they always were at capitol parties. your mother and father always dragged you along, stating that a young lady should be getting out, meeting people, friends, becoming well versed and established in the capitol. and that they wouldn’t always be here. “you need to learn to be alone, fend for yourself and stand your ground. how are you gonna do that if you’re always trying to keep to yourself dear?” your mother sweetly smiled as she looked over you, “i think you still have time to change that dress, not the most flattering sweetie.”
you scoffed as she walked away ever so elegantly. you looked over yourself in the mirror, the green dress was gorgeous, to you at least. but the blue dress your mother had chosen was breath-taking, as much as you hated to agree with her opinion. so you bit your tongue and put the chosen dress on.
mother knows best right?
the sun was setting with an especially beautiful array of colours to which you figured no one would really notice you were gone if they were all focused on something else. there was probably a screen upstairs which you could watch something on. a few things to eat and drink then you’d head up there.
finnick was glancing over to you the whole night. you’d worn blue, and he’d taken it as an ode to him. you hadn’t looked over at him yet but your leaving of the party seemed like an invitation to him to finally introduce himself.
as you settled down on the plush couch you felt all your tensions melt away. but finnick wouldn’t leave you alone for long. “i’m sorry i didn’t know this was occupied.” finnick looked sad and you had no clue why, so being as nice as you are had you opening the room in invitation to him. “no, no! i just wanted to get away from the party. you’re welcome to sit with me finnick.” it felt odd to you for some reason, calling him by his name as if he was a friend. you’d only ever seen him through screens and from afar yet he looked as amazing as always.
“are you sure?” you nodded and smiled, moving down the couch to make room for him. he sat down, respectful of your space. he looked drained and you felt the same way. “tired of the party?” you asked as he smiled and nodded, “a lot of people asking a lot of questions.” you spoke, “everyone has something to say or ask. my dad told me he got three men asking for my hand. we haven’t even been here for two hours. it’s like being in a room with vultures. and if i do accept i’ll just be, nothing. someone stuck to the side of some ugly guy who just wants a pretty face.” you didn’t know what it was about him but you felt as if you could tell him anything.
and he sat, and listened. nodding his head and adding it where appropriate. it felt, nice. having someone actually listen to what you said rather than just asking what you were wearing. he was nothing like what you expected. you’d heard the whispers. that he was a playboy, he was with and had been with multiple women and men over the years. and that he liked it, the gifts, the people, the uhm, other aspects.
“but you, i’m sure you have people to meet, scope out.” you wanted to curl up and die as soon as the words left your mouth. “no! oh my god, i do not mean it like that. you- i- you should not feel ashamed of what you like. i am so sorry- i didn’t mean to imply-” god would you stop droning on? finnick pressed his lips into a thin line, “hey it’s okay. you’re fine. in all honestly, i know everyone has mis-conceptions of me.” you took his place in attentive listening as he explained the truth.
the threats, the people pawing at him, him being sold from fourteen.
you were crying. it all sounded unbelievable and unbearable for someone to go through at such a young age, his life was ruined all because he was pretty, desirable. no child should even have to think of such things let alone experience them. and rather than you comforting him, he was sitting with his arms around you. he was too good to be true.
“i- no i’m so sorry that happened to you finnick. i had no clue, no one does. you are such an amazing person, from the little time i’ve known you. you don’t deserve any of this. how could you get away from this? we could- we could expose snow we could-” finnick cut you off with teary eyes, “there’s nothing we can do. trust me, if there was i would have tried. but i think, if i got married perhaps. i’d have a reason to stay away from the captiol. we’d live in district four, in peace.”
the idea was pretty decent, you’d give him that. and you couldn’t help your heart running a little faster at the prospect of potentially marrying him. you were already fast friends, at least you’d marry a friend? even if he potentially loved someone else or you loved another.
“what if- if you married me?”
he’d hoped you’d say that.
“you’d do that for me? seriously?” finnick faked shock as you nodded, “we’re friends, i’d much rather marry you than anyone else here to be honest. we could be happy.” you smiled as he wiped away his last tear. “y/n, that’s an amazing idea.”
your wedding was marvellous.
your parents pushed out buck after buck, no expense spared for their little girl. as if they actually cared for you. your wedding dress was white and pristine, courtesy of snow. your brown hair in curls and your brown skin glistening. but you added blue accents for finnick, or you thought you did. it’s not like he pushed for you to wear the things he bought by incessantly reminding the makeup artists and helpers that you were marrying the finnick odair, his wife deserved nothing but the best.
you stood infront of a friend, smiling, happy to be marrying a kind soul.
he stood in front of the object of his affection, his desire and love.
in the first few weeks you were undeniably happy, finnick was as sweet as ever and respected you. it was your best outcome. but overtime you seemed to notice changes in his behaviour. when you’d want to go out into town for dinner he’d always have an excuse up his sleeve.
“there’s roadworks towards your favourite restaurant honey. maybe another time?”
“apparently they’re all booked out, maybe in a few weeks time?”
“wouldn’t you rather have a home-cooked meal? i made your favourite sweetheart.”
it began to annoy after the sixth time. “it can’t always be busy can it? we use to go all the time, and it’s not like they’d refuse you finnick. what’s going on?”
“i give you everything you could ever want. why the hell do you want to go out so much? am i not enough? are you- are you seeing someone?” finnick slumped in his seat.
your eyes widened as you rushed over to him, settling on your knees as your hands were placed on his thighs, “finnick how could you say such a thing? i would never do that to you. i swear there’s nothing going on, i just, i’m bored. i’d like to go out with you, explore your district with you, meet new people with you.” finnicks eyes burnt into yours. this is certainly not how he first wanted to see you on your knees, but at least you were whining.
“yeah? you like me? you promise there’s nothing going on?” you nodded dumbly, “yes yes! nothing i promise.” finnick looked down at your hands in his lap, “how do i know you’re not lying?” your hands were on his knees as you straightened your back, coming closer to his eye level, “i promise finnick. you are my husband, i’m with you. i’ll do anything to prove it to you.”
finnick was fighting off every muscle in his cheeks to not start grinning whilst the sad look on his face was breaking your heart, “yeah? anything?” oh this was going to be good. your cheeks were flushed as you heard the words come of out his mouth, “undo my belt sweetheart, show me how much you mean it.” wavering hands hovered over his belt buckle as finnick relaxed into his seat, it couldn’t get better than this right?
wrong.
every time you asked to go out, to meet a friend, to go to the capitol he’d always sulk. and the night would end with you on your knees, him on his to make you forget, or the two of you tangled in sheets.
finnick was finally happy, he had the girl of his dreams after such a long period of sadness, of exploitation and terror. fake smiles and lingering eyes.
he finally got something out of the games.
and his gift?
the victors spoils.

WHEN I LOOK IN YOUR EYES, I FEEL ALIVE
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
EX CONVICT!TOJI X MOM!READER
WARNINGS: angst, fluff, Toji has gone to prison, Toji fushiguro is a family man and wants his family back !!
SYNOPSIS: Toji being incarcerated fucked you and your daughter up badly, and when he’s released, you want nothing more than to hold him again.
A/N: i was listening to Blue by Beyoncé while writing this and she made that song for her daughter and I just felt the need to sob for some reason🥲 but yeah prisonbf! Toji missing his gf and kid fucks me up.
Tumblr media
When Toji went to prison, you knew it was the end of your relationship. You warned him so many times that this would happened, even before you gave birth to your daughter. And, knowing Toji, there was no convincing him.
The court trial was the worst memory that comes to mind when talking about Toji. When the judge declared he was guilty, it wasn’t a shock to anyone, even Toji.
But it didn’t help that you were there, holding your two year old as police men took him away. Not once, during the whole ordeal, did Toji look back at you two, deciding it was too much to see his girlfriend and daughter who he loved so much get taken away from him. He’d probably break down right there if he looked back.
You cried so much that day, especially when getting told that he’d be facing five years. Even when your lawyer ensured that Toji would face a lot less if he behaves well in prison, it all went in one ear and out the other.
It had been a difficult two years, he’s missed out on so much. Such as, his daughter’s third and fourth birthday, you having a new job and the fact that you and that guys relationship was more serious than he thought.
Tumblr media
He remembers when you told him about it. It was bittersweet due to the fact that you brought your daughter so Toji could see her. “Daddy!” She exclaimed, excited to see her dad even though it’s behind a poorly cleaned window. She was too excited to even speak through the telephone.
But Toji already knew. Toji knew his daughter loved him. He talked to her about school and smiled as his four year old talked about whatever she’d been doing for the past week. Except, she mentioned that her, mommy and ‘that man’ went to the park.
When his daughter said that, Toji looked at you only to see you looking away, embarrassingly. Despite his annoyance, the raven haired man kept smiling at your daughter, even more attentive than he was before.
You took the phone once your daughter was finished, “He’s just a friend from work.”
“Why don’t I know about this guy?” Toji asked whilst keeping his hand pressed up against the glass so his daughter could press her hand up too.
“Because it’s not that serious to be talking about.” You sigh. And you were right, it was a couple of dates and drinks but he didn’t make you feel things that Toji had made you feel. “Don’t do this, Toji, not here. Not in front of her.” Your daughter looks up at you, her hand still separated from her fathers due to the glass.
He scoffed, “Does he sleep over? You fuckin him now, is that it? In my bed, huh?”
You stayed silent, not wanting your daughter to hear you lash out. Toji grew even more annoyed at that, “You know that’s gonna upset her, right? She’s gonna think you’re replacing her dad. That shit isn’t fair, Y/N. You know I’m gonna be released soon.”
“And that’s supposed to make me roll out the red carpet for you? And forget that this shit ever happened?” You scoff. Toji opened his mouth to say something, then closed it again choosing to let you talk. “I’ve missed you so much. She misses you so much. Do you know how hard it has been to raise a child on my own? And for you to give me shit if I wanted to move on? Fuck you, Toji.”
His questions not only angered you, but upset you. You had every right to allow yourself to move on after him being locked up for two years. The fact that he’d even attempt to make you feel bad about that was absurd.
Toji watched silently as you held back tears, put the telephone in its holder and walked away with your daughter.
That was the last conversation he had with you for a year. Toji would’ve slapped his past self for even talking to you like that because he misses you now more than ever.
There were so many times where he’s called you, longing to hear your sweet voice. Even if it’s you saying that he’s a dick and you never wanted to hear from him again.
But that wish was never granted.
‘Hey, it’s me again. It’s nearly peanuts fourth birthday..’ He smiles remembering the nickname you gave your daughter. ‘I was just wondering if maybe you could come around? Or maybe give me a call, just so I can wish her a happy birthday. I miss you more and more each day. Both of you. I love you.’
The voicemail meant nothing to you. It should’ve meant nothing to you. But hearing him say your daughter’s nickname sent tears down your face.
He truly misses his little family.
You can only imagine his excitement when he was released. He called an uber straight to your home, his home. He had nothing but a bag of his possessions and $20 but once he’d see you again, he’d be more than satisfied.
Tumblr media
It was a Saturday morning. You cooked your daughter some scrambled eggs for breakfast, reminding you of her dad who ate eggs almost everyday. Toji was set to be released any time now, and that loomed over your head like a plague.
Suddenly, you hear three loud knocks coming from your door. It startled you, and your daughter who nearly dropped her orange juice. It was probably one of your friends who forgot their bag here, you thought.
But once you opened the door, you were met with an unwanted surprise.
Toji stood, smiling down at you, dressed in a casual hoodie and joggers. He was definitely more buff due to all the muscle gain he earned through prison. It was strange seeing him again. Not behind a glass but in front of you. Not in his orange jumpsuit but in normal clothes.
You wanted to touch him, see if he was real.
“Hey..” He said. Oh, how badly he wanted to kiss you right then and there. Seeing you again after a year was the best thing that has ever happened to him.
When your daughter saw him, stood at the door, her mouth fell open. “You remember me, sweetheart?” Toji crouched down to her height with open arms as she ran towards him.
He almost cried as his little girl sobbed into his shoulder, she wasn’t as little as she was when he last saw her. He realised how much time has passed. And how much he’s missed the both of you.
“Daddy, don’t l-leave again…”, the four year old croaked out, her nose stuffy and eyes watery. Toji rubbed her back, encouraging her to let her feelings out.
Toji almost jumped when he felt an extra pair of hands join in the hug. However, when he looked up and saw you, he was reminded that everything he ever did and everything he’d ever do would be for the two of you. He pulled you into the hug and held you both, kissing both of your foreheads.
Tumblr media
All resentment you felt towards him went away the second you saw him. The three of you caught up, well, it was more of you and your daughter catching him up. The most Toji could do was mention all the times he’s intimidated people at prison, even those serving longer sentences than him. However, Toji was still glad to know you ended things with that guy you were with.
He helped you cook dinner, not forgetting to kiss your cheek every step of the way. The meal truly being made with love. He missed the domesticity of his life. Even when he was going through all his trial stuff, he remembers you, his baby daughter and him all cozied up on the couch, eating spaghetti or something.
And now he had that opportunity again. He enjoyed seeing you remind your daughter to not play with her food and how she asked for ice cream once she was done.
Once the day was over, Toji sat on his bed, his back still not truly recovered from sleeping in a dingy prison bed. It also helped that you were there. You removed his clothes, peppering him with kisses as you did so. He snuggled up to your warm body and just listened to your steady breathing.
“I fucking love you.” He whispers and you hum in response. He knows you and how it’ll take some time before you can utter those words again. If it takes him the rest of his life to make things up to you, he’ll do that.
But that’s fine. As long as he’s with you.

i want to see the hotel meeting again jejdjdjdjd with lucifer too!!! but maybe this time reader is starting to understand her powers? i want to see how they’ll react!!! (yea lucifer included i love him)
I wanted to write a cute little interaction between the Hotel Gang. I've been trying to come up with some stuff for the other Overlords, but it's been a struggle. This won't go over the characters reactions to reader coming back, but I will definitely do that eventually.
masterlist
---
"So you're just immortal?!" You've barely been back a full day, and Angel is already yelling at you.
After being gone for six whole months, coming back to the hotel was a big deal, more for the hotels inhabitants than for you. You thought it was only fair to explain how everything worked, or at least how you thought it worked.
So, about an hour was spent explaining everything. From when you fell out of a tree when you eight, to the day you got hit by a car and sent to Hell. It was definitely...a lot, and Angel was, of course, the first one to speak up.
"I-I mean yeah..." You mumble out. "I guess so..." It was all you could muster out, since you really didn't understand it yourself. You didn't like the silence, you couldn't tell what the others were thinking.
Charlie, who was sitting next to you, took your hand, "You should've told us sooner!" Her voice was strangely soft but also sad. It made you pull your hands away from her, feeling shy under her gaze.
"I really didn't know much about it so--"
"Well isn't this just wonderful!" You turn to see the wide smile of Alastor. "This means you get to spend more time with us!" A hand was placed on your shoulder, making you jump a bit. You could feel his piercing gaze on you, waiting for some type of response.
"...yeah, that's great..." You mumble, slowly removing his hand for your shoulder, giving him an awkward smile when his smile falters a bit and his eye twitch.
"Oh my--do you think dad knew?" Charlie asked aloud, directing her attention to her partner. "Vaggie, where's my phone?" She rushed around, searching the room in a frenzy while Vaggie watched from the sidelines.
You took a small sigh, straining yourself from rubbing your eyes. You could barely pay attention to all that was going on, so you chose to get up and move to the bar, sitting next to Angel. Husk waited no time giving you a glass of water.
"So...what happened." Angel peers over to you as he sips his drink. "You hadda die to get here--so what happened?" You look down at you drink, avoiding the question. You remain silent, but you can tell the others were focusing on you, waiting for a response.
You shook your head, "nothing much..." it was cryptic, you knew, but you were too focused with your reflection in the water. It was so clear, you could almost see every detail of yourself in the tiny glass. The glass was cold, nearly making you shiver, but your whole body was already cold.
The room was getting to quiet, your grip on the glass becoming so harsh you were fearful the glass would break. "--Look kid, you don't have to talk about it if you don't wanna...I don't mind." Angel leans down and whispers near your ear. You spare him a quick glance, his face looked sincere and for the first time it felt like you were actually seeing him.
"He's right, y'know." Husk added in. "We're not gonna make you do anything." Husk's voice was soft, and was comforting in a way you couldn't describe. Though, you could sense something deep within him, almost like he was searching within you for something.
Either way, you couldn't focus on it for long, "Yes! I found it!" Charlie announced, holding up her phone with a triumphant smile, "You just wait here--" She smiled at you as she ran off to call her dad. You wondered how long it takes for him to get here, how much time you'd get to yourself before you were bombarded by another person.
Your thoughts were interrupted yet again by the feeling of someone grabbing your arm. "Now that whole debacle is over--" It was Alastor and his ever-present, creepy smile. "--you and me are going to have a chat~" He pulls you up from his seat as gently as someone like him can, the smile never leaving his face. You're forced to move with him, looking back at Angel and Husk to see them just as confused.
"Hey! Where are ya going?" You hear Angel yell.
"That's none of your concern." Alastor replies. "But I can promise you that the little one will be delivered back to you safely."
You were far away from the bar before you could hear a response, the only sounds left being the quick beating of your heart and the clacking of Alastor's shoes. You tried your hardest not to squirm in his hold, and you tried even harder not to flinch when you felt his gaze on you.
"Don't fear little one." You heard him laugh, it mixing with the radio sounds of his voice. "I wanna know all about your time up on Earth, and after you can tell me just exactly how you got here." He suddenly stopped, causing you to nearly trip at the sudden force.
"Spare me none of the details~"

Can you write Miles 42 being like really super duper protective and like controls her, he doesn’t let her go out by herself and stuff like that and is like always watching her. They argue about his over protectiveness but he could care less
Ofc babes!!!
warnings: toxic behaivor, miles being annoying, angst, references to robbery and murder, strong language, INCREDIBLY TOXIC BEHAVIOR!!!!!!, brief mention of drinking, lmk if I missed one or two
A/n: Send more miles 42 reqs pls
730 days. Thats how long you were with this man. Thats how long it's been since you got leave the house alone. Miles was very overprotective since his dad died and he saw the world for what it was. Evil and it was filled with nothing but scum. Miles determined that this world wasn't good enough for you and you needed to be "protected" and kept away from this disgraceful universe. So, he took it upon himself to protect the only two things that mattered to him, you and his mom and he did a good job at it.
Miles would walk you to school, work, home and if you needed something, he would be the one to get it for you:
"Miles baby, I can get it myself; its right outside." you pleaded.
"Nah, Mami. I don't want you outside by yourself. People are fucked up and they will hurt you." He said stoically.
"But-" you started
"Cállate, Y/n. Before I make you” he said, stepping closer
You knew Miles well and you knew to stop pressing because he would just shut down and you hated when he shut down. Miles would just put his hand on his braids and kick something before giving you the same speech:
“Y/n you saw what they did to my father, do you want that to happen to you too? Because if I let you go out by yourself, you’re at risk for that to happen and if it does or if anything or anyone touches you, I will kill them; and that’s a promise, Mami. I will kill anyone that lays a finger on you and not bat an eye. Don’t fuck with me, y/n. Stay close. Let me protect you and we will be good. Aight?"
“okay.” you would say. Miles had a way of making you seem two inches tall in these situations.
You never left his side. For two years, he would watch your every move(he put small cameras in your home. You didn’t notice until three months ago); he would take you shopping but never posted about you just in case a villain would use try to use you as his weakness(because lets face it, you’re his weakness), he would kiss you and be sweet in private but he would act hard when anyone else was around.
It was a cold winter’s day when you decided you had had enough. Your friend y/f/n(your friends name) had invited you out to a party. You had never been to one because of Miles but you decided enough was enough and you were gonna go. So you slipped on a small dress, cute heels and a jacket that made your tits look nice and left:
“I’ll be home soon!” You told your parent
“Okay, y/n. Tell Miles I said hi” they exclaimed
“Okay!” You shouted back. They knew how overprotective Miles was but they knew he was a good person overall so they left it alone.
As you walked to hail a taxi, you felt your phone vibrate:
Miles: Wanna go out?
You: No it’s okay, imma just stay in for tonight
Miles: Nah fr. Let me take you out
You looked down and debated answering the text, but ultimately decided not to. You got in the taxi and went to the party when you saw a shadow dash across the roof.
You walked into the party and greeted your friend:
“GIRL OMG YOU LOOK SO GOOD. WHERE’S MILES?” They shouted over the loud music
“He’s not here, it’s just me. Let’s go grab a drink!” You replied
“Oh Okay!!” Your friend said
As you were walking over, you could’ve sworn you saw a man that looked exactly like your boyfriend but he vanished when a man walked past. You brushed it off and grabbed a cup of jungle juice and went to dance. You grinded against your friend who caught it during the beat drop. You were having the time of your life until you checked your phone:
Miles: I know where you are, y/n. Come home or I’m coming there.
Miles: I should’ve known you’d lie to me. You’ve been acting real shady lately, wanting to go out and shit. Just wait till you get home, we’re gonna address this shit immediately.
Miles: I see you
Miles: Stop ignoring me, y/n. You know you fucked up
Miles: Imagine wearing the chrome heart necklace I got you while dancing like a slut on your friend
Your stomach dropped as you surveyed your surroundings, looking for a sign of him. When you couldn’t see him, you hailed a taxi and went home.
You fidgeted and fiddled the whole way home. The driver looked in his rear view mirror at you:
“You good, Mami?"
The name sent shivers up your spine as it was your boyfriends name for you.
“Oh! I’m fine, just cold haha” you laughed it off
The driver turned on the heat and sooner or later you were home.
You approached your doorstep and went to your room. Your parent was asleep and you walked in your room, thinking his threat was empty, until you went to shower and saw him behind the door:
“MILES” you screamed both in shock and horror
“Y/n.” he said, closing the door, encapsulating you both in the small room together
“I’m so sorry-“ you started
“you should be. What did I tell you, y/n? I do all of this shit for your safety but you continue to fight me and pull these stunts” Miles lectured as he closed in on you. Your height difference becoming more and more apparent
“Stunts? Fight? Miles I have been nothing but obedient to you which I shouldn’t even have to do if you treated me like a person instead of an object. That’s all I am to you isn’t it? An object. A doll. Just something you don’t want other people to have or see?” you argued
But your pleas and your confessions meant nothing to the man. He simply looked at you and said:
“yeah, actually.”
“what?” you said
“You are an object to me, you’re something I have to protect otherwise the world will take you from me like they did him.” Miles said, as stoic as ever
“STOP USING YOUR DAD AS LEVERAGE IN THIS, MILES. THIS ISN’T ABOUT HIM, ITS ABOUT YOU AND ME AND IF YOURE JUST GONNA KEEP TREATING ME THIS WAY, I’LL FIND SOMEONE ELSE.” You shouted, exasperated and on the verge of tears.
“do it, y/n. I dare you to find someone who will care for you and spoil you as much as I do.” Miles said, briefly breaking his nonchalant nature
“Fine I will!” you said reaching for the doorknob.
You left and put on clothes as you made him leave.
“You’ll be back.” Miles said, nonchalantly
“Fuck you, Miles Morales.” you said
It had been a week and you were sulking and debating getting back with the man when your family and friends told you were doing the right thing:
“I’m glad you left him, y/n. I heard he’s the prowler.” Your parent said
“Yeah I’m glad I left too.” you mumbled
As you were enjoying your fifth night of freedom, you saw a woman get mugged on the street:
“GIVE ME YOUR PURSE NOW LADY” The masked man shouted
The woman did as told and the man escaped but not before looking at you and running in your direction. With Miles, that man would’ve never even had the though to look at you.
You ran as fast as you could until you lost him in an alley behind your apartment. You decided you missed him too much and he was right so you pulled out your phone:
You: Miles you were right. I’m so sorry
Miles: typing...
Miles: its okay, I knew you’d find out soon enough; so what happened, Mami?
You: Some mugger saw me and charged at me and he had a knife
Miles: What did he look like
You: Beanie, knife, blue shirt and black pants
seen
You went home and went to sleep. The next morning you heard the news blaring in the house, along with the smell of bacon wafting through the house
“What happened?” you asked
“some mugger got killed.” your parent said
You had a stinging sensation in your gut and prayed that it wasn’t what it looked like when you heard the woman on the TV:
“It seemed like there were claw marks In his chest and he had been blasted with a ray gun."
Oh God...
You went to text Miles when you saw his text:
“You don’t gotta worry about that guy anymore, Mami. I’ll be at your house at 10.”

"Well, I think she'll live," he announced with a laugh as he stood up, wiping oil-covered hands on a rag. "Just needs a new spark plug and probably a patch on the fluid exchange."
You chewed your lip as you pretended not to be a total idiot about cars. "How much is that gonna put me out for?"
He waved his hand dismissively. "Don't worry about that too much, honey. Your dad's a good friend, we'll just call it even."
"No, Em," you sighed, stepping closer to him-- having to walk carefully so you wouldn't trip on any toolboxes left out on the garage floor. "Come on, let me at least pay for the parts or something."
He shook his head, giving you one of those smiles that melted your heart just a bit. "You've been too good to me already, sweetheart. Don't worry about me."
You felt a little awkward, realizing he was referring to how you'd helped him after his ex-wife moved out. There wasn't much you could do, of course, but you'd tried to show your support-- first by bringing some food over, first a casserole and then allegedly 'extra' cookies, even though you were a little worried he'd be offended by the possible suggestion that he couldn't cook for himself. Then, you'd given him advice on how to keep the zinnias out front alive, since their normal caretaker was too busy running away to California with her hairdresser to water them. He seemed to appreciate that, and your heart might have skipped a beat when your hands brushed against his while you were gardening together.
(Um, it was a male hairdresser, by the way. Not that it matters a whole lot...)
Maybe you would let him give you free work on your car, if you didn't happen to know that the auto shop was struggling at the moment. Sure, you figured he'd give you a deal, because that was just who he was, but you never expected to take his time and spare parts for nothing in return. "Em, please," you frowned, leaning against the hood of your car just after he'd shut it. "Let me make it up to you-- you're working so hard for me."
As his eyes fell on you, you suddenly noticed a new darkness in them; he was looking you up and down, making you shudder slightly as he leaned closer. "Jus' tryin' to take care of you, honey," he said, a little softer, and you fought the urge to bite your lip. "Can't let you drive around town in somethin' that might break down any minute."
"Well, I can't let you eat TV dinners every night," you smiled in reply. "How about I pay you back in meals, hm? You liked the chicken casserole, right?"
"Yeah, you're a good cook," he relented, "I guess I can't turn down an offer like that, can I?"
"Good," you grinned, "then I'll bring something over tonight."
"But what if I'm hungry for somethin' else?"
You got a little shaky all of a sudden, and tried not to get your hopes up-- you were probably imagining the sultry tone to his voice...
"Somethin' a little sweeter than casserole," he added, closing the space between you and lifting your chin so you would look up at him.
"...cookies?" you wondered with a weak voice, and he laughed softly.
"Don't get me wrong," he replied, "your cookies are great. But I think you know that's not what I'm talkin' about."
You didn't know how to respond to that... you weren't even sure if you supposed to respond. Apparently, he got whatever he needed just from looking into your eyes.
"Sit on the hood, honey."
He knelt in front of you as you did what you were told; he kept his eyes locked with yours as long as he could, until he started to spread your legs slowly and his gaze had to dart down under your dress.
"Oh, sweetheart," he sighed heavily, making you struggle not to press your thighs together to satisfy your sudden desire for friction. "Look at those cute little panties-- can I take 'em off for you?"
"Y-yes, please," you nodded, and he gave you a little smile as he reached up under your dress to slowly-- so painfully slowly-- pull them down your thighs.
You opened your legs perhaps a bit too eagerly once he'd slipped the panties off around your shoes and stuffed them into his pocket-- yes, you'd noticed that-- and he bit his lip at the sight, pushing your dress up just enough to get a good view. "Baby," he growled, "you're just too perfect."
You thought maybe he'd ask again, like he had before he took off your panties-- maybe just because he knew you'd say yes. But he didn't: he just dove right in all of a sudden, making you gasp and moan as his tongue and lips explored all over you.
He devoured you with every lap, humming and moaning between those beautifully filthy, wet noises the whole ordeal created.
"P-please," you gasped, running your fingers through his long, wavy hair.
"Oh, honey," he groaned proudly, pulling back slightly to look up at you before delivering a gentle peck to your swollen clit. "You sound too cute when you're beggin'."
Going back in again, he sucked harder on your clit until your thighs instinctively clamped down on his head-- which didn't deter him at all, anyway. "E-Emmett, fuck, just like that--" you choked out, holding tighter to his hair, "oh fuck!"
Groaning encouragingly, he slid his tongue inside you and shut his eyes tight as you started to rock your hips on his face.
He found a pattern pretty quickly, holding you steady by your thighs so he could force every sensation on you; he teased your opening with his tongue, but focused mostly on your clit until you were shaking all over. You kept trying to tell him you were going to come, but it was obvious by how hard you struggled to put a sentence together. When you did come on his tongue, it was quieter than you expected-- a silent scream, which broke into a long, low moan when you were actually able to breathe again.
His tongue on your clit became too much all of a sudden, and your hand in his hair started to push him away. Thankfully, he did stop, and you started to slowly come back to reality.
He wiped his mouth with the back of his hand as he stood up to face you again, starting to open his jeans quickly.
"Fuck, Em," you panted as you tried to catch your breath, blinking the blur out of your eyes to get a better view of his proud, tilted grin. "What'd you do that for?"
"Just needed to hear you scream, princess," he winked, reaching into his boxers. "And I figured I won't last long when I'm inside ya, anyway-- s'been a while..."
He pulled his cock out of his pants, instantly pressing the tip up to you and lining himself with your opening.
"And I like the idea of still being able to smell your pussy in my beard tomorrow," he added, just before he slid inside your waiting channel.
He grunted as he filled you, head falling back with a heavy sigh through his nose. "O-oh," you choked out, grabbing one of his shoulders to stay stable as he started to move.
"God, baby," he purred, "I was right-- fuck, I won't last. Sorry, but I've been waitin' too damn long..."
You wanted to tell him that you didn't care-- that you actually thought it was insanely sexy how affected he was by all this-- but when you opened your mouth, you could only moan desperately. Your previous orgasm had left your insides all sticky and sensitive, every thrust overwhelming you with tension and friction. And thank god for how wet it had made you, too, or you might have had more trouble fitting his generous girth inside you...
"Knew you'd be so good for me," he grunted, "such a good girl-- wanted you for so long, honey."
You whimpered behind a bitten lip, blinking up at him expectantly. "How long?"
He smirked a little, before leaning in to kiss your neck playfully-- teasing your pulse with the very tip of his tongue. "I shouldn't say," he mumbled.
"Please," you gasped, "god, Em-- I gotta know..."
"Before the divorce," was all he'd say, but that was enough to make you quiver inside-- you'd always wondered, hoped, that he shared your interest, but you had spent most of your time pretending you didn't have a crush on him since he was closer to your dad's age and, you know, married. At the time. "She used to get mad at me when she caught me lookin' at you," he admitted with a low chuckle that made chills run up your spine in delight. "She was jealous of how fuckin' pretty you are... how sweet you are... how good you are..."
"Emmett," you whimpered, clinging to him tighter, "Em, please, I'm so close--"
"Fuck, baby, g'na come again?" he taunted with a grin, one of his hands tightening its grip on your waist. "Go ahead, honey, give my cock a nice li'l squeeze, huh?"
"Yes, fuck, yes," you gasped. "Fuck!"
"Not too loud, sweetheart," he warned, "got another mechanic in the other garage-- don't want him hearin' you... don't want anyone hearin' those pretty sounds but me, okay, princess?"
But he found a much more reliable way to shut you up: he kissed you, hard and desperate, and you moaned against his lips as you tasted yourself on his tongue. Your whimpers of his name were almost unintelligible as he kissed you, but he clearly understood them: he fucked you harder, faster, deeper, grunting promises to come inside you and leave you dripping with his come for the rest of the night. You encouraged him as best you could while being totally speechless-- and with a whine, you came around him just before he filled you with a gruff purr of his own.
Sighing, he dropped his head onto your shoulder, running his fingers down your back through your dress to make you shiver in his arms one more time. "Beautiful," he praised under his breath, kissing softly beside your ear. "So beautiful, honey..."
You smiled softly, wrapping your arms around him in a lazy embrace. "You're the one that's too good to me, Em," you whispered. "When did you figure out I had a crush on you?"
"Sometime after you brought me the casserole, but before you came on my face."

CHIQUITITA ~ Miguel O.
Miguel O’Hara x fem!reader
He’s your dads best friend, and he’s suppose to be nothing more then that, but you two can’t seem to get enough of eachother.
SMUT ~ oral (fem receiving), lots of smirking, Miguel be a lil perv nd watching the reader change, lots of flirting nd pet names!
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Miguel O’hara your dads best friend, was staying with your family for a few weeks. You were already familiar with the man, he watched you grow up into the young adult you are today. He celebrated with you when you got into you’re dream college, he let you have you’re first sip of alcohol and never told you’re father, he always said that you were his favorite out of all your siblings.
The same man you’ve had around you’re whole life was also the same man you’d thought about at night when your fingers were shoved into your panties, rubbing desperately at the bundle of nerves. Miguel was the same man who stole sneaky glances at you, watching as you passed by him in a mini skirt, or eye fucking you whenever he could, all while thinking that you didn’t know.
You weren’t stupid, there was definitely a sexual tension that grew when the occasional joking comment turned a bit flirty. It was always a rush between the two of you whenever the commonly repeated words, what if someone catches us is chanted as he kisses your soft lips. Miguel was the man you’ve always dreamt of, but you knew that nobody could ever know of the actions that happened whenever you’re father was locked up in his office, working on some project.
There’s a sharp knock on your bedroom door, followed by that smooth, familiar voice you’ve grown fond of. Miguel’s tall frame caught your sight as he slowly opened the door. “Hola, chiquitita, I’m going down to the pool.” He stepped into the room already in his swim shorts, a towel and sunblock in his hand. “Do you want to come with me?”
You sat up and forgot about the phone in you’re hand, “You know I’d never turn down an offer to swim, Miggy.”
“Muy bien, then come here and help me put sunscreen on my back, mi vida.” Miguel smirked as he watched you stand from the bed.
You pulled him into your room, shutting the door and grabbing the bright bottle from his hand, you feigned a annoyed. “Siempre necesitando mi ayuda.”
Miguel chuckled as the door was shut, he didn’t protest you shutting it, he’d been waiting for a moment to be alone with you. “Well, are you gonna help me, chiquitita?” He moved close, his breath lightly caressing your neck. He always knew how to get you red as a cherry, it fed his ego whenever you cowered under his gaze.
“Turn around.”
Miguel turned around, his shirtless body always amazed you, he was a large, muscular man that liked to keep in shape. His skin was beautifully tanned, his body covered in tattoos, a few new scratches and bruises. You opened the bottle of sunscreen and gently smeared it on his muscly back, you were right where he wanted you, your touch against his skin causing him to shiver slightly. You neatly manicured fingers trailed throughout his back, making sure to get sunscreen all along his back, your hands even lingering occasionally as you subtly his massaged back.
Miguel’s breath caught in his throat, he resisted letting out a groan, your lingering fingers made his body tingle. The manicured hands that he paid for running up and down him made him squirm. He was powerless to your touch, even with all the muscles, his mind racing to imagine other scenarios. The smell of sunscreen filled the room as Miguel closed his eyes, forcing himself to not ask you to keep touching him. You could feel him tense up when you pulled your hands away, rubbing the access sunscreen on your arms.
“I need change into my bathing suit, but you’re returning the favor and helping me put on sunscreen too okay?” You pointed a finger at him as he turned around, smirking like a smug little shit.
“Buenos pues, chiquitita.” Miguel chuckled, trying to hide just how much your touch turned him on. “Gracias, by the way.“ he stepped out the room, but you left the door wide open, honestly not caring if he watched or not. He waited just outside, though from the angle he was standing at a mirror reflected all the was going on inside. He kept an eye on your as you undressed and put on the skimpy bikini, you knew what you were doing. His eyes glued to you in the reflection, his focus mainly on your body as you tied on the bikini top, tits beautiful displayed. When you finally came out of the room, he straightens up his posture and whistled. “You look good in that, chiquitita.”
You let out soft giggles, twirling swiftly to give him a full view, “Gracias, no soy la niñita que era.” You held out the bottle, a smirk on your face.
Miguel chuckled as he took the sunscreen from your hands and started applying it to your body.“No, you aren’t little anymore. You’re a woman that I’ve watched grow up, but you’ll always be mi hermosa chiquitita.” He was careful and gentle, making sure to take his time with it. The mix between his words and the movement of his hands made you flustered. Miguel knew what he was doing. Once he finally finished applying the sunscreen he leaned down and kissed your cheek. “Let’s go to the pool. We’ve already spent too much time inside.” He allowed you to step front of him, “Las chiquititas primero.”
You chuckled softly, “Gracias, papi.”
Miguel smirked but didn’t acknowledge the remark. Instead, he just laughed as he trailed behind you, your bikini accentuating your body. His eyes fell on your ass, you confident strides down the hallway and stairs making him hold back on reaching over to grab it. You could feel his eyes and it only made you smirk. “Enjoying the view, Miggy?”
Miguel laughed softly, his face flush. “How do you know it’s you that has me distracted?” Miguel shrugged as you opened the sliding door, his mind racing when you continued to walk in front of him.
“Don’t think I don’t see where your eyes are looking, plus you’ve got a little drool just right there.” You teased, pointing at the corner of his mouth with a smile. You put down the towel and sunglasses on one of the chaise lounge chairs.
He looked down at the pool and back at you, hiding his smile, he didn’t want to admit that you were completely right. He opted on teasing you back, “Little diablita. If you keep teasing me like that, I’ll have to do something about it.”
“Oh yeah, and what would that be.” You challenged, walking closer to him as you smirked.
Miguel copied the smirk on your lips, looking down at them, so plump and pink just for him. “Would it be wrong for me to kiss that smartass, teasing mouth of yours chiquitita?”Miguel moved closer, closing the little space between the two of you.
“Only if ya get caught, papi.”
Miguel’s smirk widened. He looked down at your face for a second, deciding whether he should care if he gets caught or not. He moved his head to your ear and whispered, knowing it was one of your weaknesses. “Well maybe I don’t care about getting caught right now.” Miguel’s breath was warm against you as his free hand gently pulling you towards him.
You grinned, he was right on the edge of the pool, in the perfect position, your hands were planted on his muscly chest. You had an idea. “Oh yeah?” Before he could come up with another teasing reposen you pushed his body and watched as he fell into the water, a splash of water followed after.
Miguel went from smug and proud, to confused and shocked in a matter of seconds. As he fell into the pool he hissed, cold water quickly soaking his body. You could see his annoyed expression when his head popped up from the water. “Maldita sea!” His face dripping in water, he turned to you as your giggling filled his ears. “Estas loca.” He chuckled, admiring you despite you’re cruel actions.
“Loosen up, papi, nomas es un poco de agua.” You made your way towards the steps of the pool, slowly dipping in one foot at a time. You understood why Miguel got so agitated, the water wasn’t the warmest, it made goosebumps spread throughout your body. Nonetheless you continued on in. You looked towards Miguel you watched your figure as the water reached your waist. His eyes trailed up to your hardened nipples that poked through the fabric of the bikini top.
You’d began to shiver, Miguel sighed and resisted the urge to hold you close. He looked down at your goosebump covered body as you made your way towards him. You reached a hand out towards him, attempting to conceal the slight tremble in your lip from the cold. Miguel took your hand and chuckled, kissing your knuckles. “Tienes frío?”
You nodded, “Y tu no?”
“You’ll get use to it, chiquitita.” You huffed and pulled him closer, wrapping your legs around his waist, you hands coming up to grip his shoulders. Miguel’s eyes widened at your sudden action, it wasn’t what he expected, but he wasn’t disappointed in the slightest, he’d already melted at your touch and went back to o being smug. He wrapped his arm around you, the other one going down to grip your ass he’d been so desperately wanting to squeeze. His mind racing with so many thoughts. “What if someone sees us like this?”
“What happened to not caring if we get caught, hmm?” You smirked, leaning your head back and allowed the water to soak up into your hair, your neck exposed to his wandering eyes.
Miguel chuckled as you leaned back, his lips brushing against your neck briefly. “Well if we continue like this then we’re going to get caught doing more then just being in each others arms.“ He teased your ear with his hot breath, his arms still wrapped around your body. He was feeling bold and decided to press his bulge against your clothed core.
You gasp softly, the grip on his shoulders tightening, you rose your head back up and looked at him. “You’re so hot, y’know that, papi?
Miguel’s muscles tensed up again as he felt your grip tighten on his shoulders, smug smirk painted on his lips. “Gracias, chiquitita.” he chuckled, “You’re pretty hot yourself.”
His eyes were looking at you intensely, not being able to look away. They were locked on your lips, your body, every part of you had Miguel feeling things he was never ready for. You could see it in his fierce eyes, the way his bit his lip, the way he squeezed the soft flesh of your ass.
“Bésame, Miggy.” You wanted to sound confident, like you had control, but the way the fraise left your lips was like a plead. “I know you want to.”
Miguel’s face was flushed and his heart was pounding out of his chest. Hearing you say those words, he couldn’t say no. He wanted to kiss you, he wanted to drown in your lips. He wanted this more than he’d ever wanted anything before. He knew it was wrong, it was filthy kissing the daughter of his longest friends, but it felt so good to have you in his arms. He smiled softly, pulling you closer to him, if it was even possible. Miguel’s lips gently touched yours, kissing you passionately. The water around you seemed to have warmed up suddenly, you no longer shivered but instead basked in the warmth. Your wet hand cupped his face as you leaned your head to the side, deepening the messy kiss, tongues intertwined in a battle for dominance.
Miguel was in a haze with your lips pressed against his, he was losing himself, every other thought leaving his mind except you. He felt your wet fingers running through his hair, tugging occasionally as you let out sweet sounds.
“I have a feeling that we’re going to end up doing more then just swimming today, papi.” You smirked teasingly, pulling away from the kiss, watching as a single string of salvia connected your lips. Miguel chuckled, biting his lip as his heart still pounded from the kiss. You were right, he already knew what else both of you would do and he knew would be dirty. It consumed his mind, the thought of your head stuffed into a pillow as he pounded from behind made the boner in his shorts so much more painful.
The pulled away from his arms, extending out your legs to swim across the pool. Dunked your head, letting your face meet the cool, chlorine filled water. You turned and caught Miguel looking at you, a smile on his face. “Are you going to make me chase you chiquitita?” He smirked. “Cause that is a game you won’t win.”You squealed as his quick figure swam towards, trapping you in the deep end of the pool, the part where not even the tip of your toes could reach. His strong arms reached to grip your waist, keeping you up, you huffed and rolled your eyes. “Gotcha, now, chiquitita.”
“That wasn’t a fair fight, Miggy, let me go.” You whined, pushing at his chest, though you knew that Miguel wouldn’t budge.
“If I let you go you’ll drown, this is the six foot part of the pool.” Miguel smirked, knowing that he had you trapped and wouldn’t release you no matter how much you begged.
“I can swim.”
“Doggy paddling across the pool isn’t enough proof that you survive this deep.” He remarked, raising a brow as you rolled your eyes. “Drop the attitude, chiquitita.”
“Or what?”
Miguel pushed your bodies to the end of the pool, he propped you up on the ledge, your wet bottom soaking into concrete. You looked down, nervously watching as he pried your legs open, his face right where you always wanted him to be. “So quiet now, aren’t you diablita?”
You perched an eyebrow up, swallowing the lump in your throat, “Not afraid of getting caught, huh, Miggy?”
“I believe you should be the one that’s scared of being caught, Chiquitita, I mean look at you. Spreading your legs desperately like a dirty whore for your dads bestfriend?” Miguel smirked, shaking his disapprovingly, “I’ll have you begging me to eat this pretty cunt.”
You were far too stubborn to give in, “Why would I have to beg when I know you want to, you’re dying for it, aren’t you, papi?”
He let out a low chuckle, you weren’t sure if you were suppose to be terrified or relieved, either way, you were getting water by the moment and need something. Anything. “You caught me, chiquitita, but it doesn’t mean I’ll give in so easily. Even if I’m ‘dying’ for it.”
You let out an annoyed sigh, throwing your bed back as you heard Miguel’s chest vibrate in laughter at your antics. “Eres tan enfadoso, sabias? I might just have to leave and go fuck my fingers into this cunt since you’re being such an asshole about this.”
“Frustrated aren’t we?” Miguel rested his hands on you’re thighs, spreading them apart further to get a view of your pussy, despite it being covered by your floral bathing suit bottom. “You fuck yourself thinkin’ of me?”
You rested against one hand, behind you, the other one creeped towards you bottoms. “Mhmm, since such a whore I fuck myself nearly every night, imaging it was your cock.” He watched as you lowered your hand, you’re fingers teasing your clit for a few moments before it began to pump in and out of your wet hole. “Just like this.”
Miguel had to force back a moan, watching you writhe, him such inches away from you as your eyes such in pleasure. “Do you call out my name?”
“Fuck, yes—Miguel, yes.” As you moaned out his name he suddenly reached for your wrist, tightly squeezing it as an uncontrollable desire burned in his dark pupils.
“Enough.” He growled, forcing you to drag your fingers out of you, a quiet huff passing your lips. “It’s my turn, chiquitita.” His senses were fogged up with lust, he could feel his mouth watering already as he pushed the fabric of your bikini bottom to the side. The sight of your dripping pussy practically called his name, he glanced up at you awaiting approval.
“Por favor, papi.” You whined, lifting a hand to run through his wet hair, it didn’t take a him a second to dive in. His pink tongue already out and licking at your clit teasingly before his pretty lips sucked on it. He was getting pussy drunk at the taste of your juices, eating you out like a mad man. His hands coming up to hook around your thighs and squeeze them, also making sure that they were kept apart.
“Fucking hell, chiquitita, you taste so good.” He grumbled, the muffled vibrations of his voice barley processing in your brain as you let out a pathetic whine in response. “No boy can ever eat this cunt like I can.” You tugged in his hair tighter, eyes screwed shut and your mouth hung open. Miguel never removed his eyes off you, it was the part of his face you could see, his nose bumped into your clit while his tongue worked wonders, insetting itself into your dripping hole.
The sounds were filthy, you could hear a continuous squelch of your wet cunt already enough to expose you if anyone came home. If that wasn’t loud, then maybe your moans would definitely alert a neighbor or two. Yet, you couldn’t seem to focus on anything else then the piercing brown eyes that gazed up at you, so soft and loving despite his dirty actions. His mouth pushing more and more to the edge, your breathing was quick, someone could’ve assumed that you’d just ran a mile but it was just because of Miguel O’hara’s mouth.
“Asi, asi!” You moaned out, legs beginning to tighten around his head, you eyes breaking away from his as you threw your hand back once more. Your hips began to grind against his face, he chuckled at your desperation, the vibrations of the noise enough to make you cum. “Fuck, Miguel!” You let out one last, pornographic moan before you spilled into his inviting mouth, you twitched as he licked you up, making sure to get every last drop you had to offer before he pulled away. His whole chinned drenched in your cum and arousal, it made you blush, but he only smirked. He wiped it away with the back of his veiny hand before he leaned up to kiss you, his tongue tasted of you.
“Estas bien, chiquitita?” He muttered softly, pulling away from the kiss and trialing them down your from your cheek, to your jaw and then to your neck. You hummed in response, twisting the dark curls around your finger as pulled back to look at you. It was his favorite thing to do, especially after you came. You eyelids half open, a doopy smile unconsciously stretching on your lips, and how soft your voice was.
The sound of the sliding door opening caused you to jump, Miguel suddenly sinking himself into the water and sailing to the opposite side of the pool. Your father walked into the yard, a big grin on his face. “Mi amor, what are you doing out here?”
“Uh..j-just trying to get a tan.” You stuttered out, subtly adjusting your bottom as you stared up at your dad innocently.
“Be sure to wear lots of sunscreen, you don’t want to end up like me, old and wrinkly.” He let out a chuckle, glancing over at his best friend who was mindlessly swimming around, completely ignoring what just occurred moments ago. “Miguel, cómo está la alberca?”
“Perfecta.” Miguel replied, “We still on for that cookout tonight?”
“You know it, I actually just got back from el super y agarre la carne.” Your father was so clueless, you almost pitied him for be so blind of the tension between you two. “Be ready by six, mija, todas tus tías vienen a verte.”
You gave him a bright smile, nodding in response as he walked back into the home, sliding the door shut behind him. Your eyes drifted back to Miguel who’s already began to exit the pool, his toned body dripping of the chlorinated water. His pushed away the strands of hair that covered his eyes before reaching for his red and blue towel. It made you squeeze your legs together, a new wave of arousal hitting you once more. He came towards you, a bright pink towel in his hand and a smug smirk on his face.
As you stood he draped the material onto your shoulders, let it protect you from the slight breeze that blew over the city. “Gracias.” You mumbled, quietly walking back inside but before you could place a hand on the door handle Miguel gripped your elbow.
His tall figure leaned down, hot breath grazing over the shell of your ear. “If you ever need me to fuck your pretty pussy when your fingers can’t satisfy you, give me a call chiquitita.” He placed a kiss on your cheek, leaving you to process his words.

---------------------------------------------
"It was so weird," Sarah tells you later that evening as you both finalize your packing. "Dad said he wanted to go for coffee and then he just comes out with this whole speech about how much he loves me and that he supports my choices and he trusts my decision making."
She shakes her head incredulously, a beaming smile on her face. She's sitting on the edge of her bed watching you pack.
"Wow," you say pretending to be shocked as you fold a pair of your jeans. "Did you tell him about Charlie?"
"Yeah. And he was so cool about it! Says if I'm happy then he's happy."
You feel your chest swell with affection for Joel in that moment. Because he could have ignored your suggestions, could have ratted you out. But instead he listened, he digested and he learned.
"See, I told you that your dad would be cool about it."
You look at your clothes tucked away in your suitcase, feeling a mixture of emotions. It's bittersweet to be leaving the Miller home. Not just because of Joel, but because this house is a home. Movie nights, baking, laughing. You can't remember a holiday like this one in recent memory.
Even with Conrad's family up in Vermont their holidays were more restrained, more about appearances. Here on Rancher Street everyone genuinely likes to spend time with one another. And yes, while it’s been fun fooling around with Joel you’ve enjoyed the laughter and hair braiding sessions in Sarah’s room as she tells you about Charlie or Tess offering to teach you how she makes her special peppermint squares so you can make them at home.
And as you sit beside Joel at dinner that night, marveling at the way Tess has made use of the leftover Christmas turkey you can't help but press your thigh into his with something like affection. He doesn't flinch, doesn't move away. He just continues eating and talking with Sarah and Tess seated across from you about returning to school.
"I'm not really excited to go back," she confesses. "Gonna miss everyone around here."
"You'll still have me," you joke, knowing very well that she's talking about Charlie.
"Very true," Sarah smiles. Tess launches into how much she misses Sarah around the house. Your attention drifts to the man beside you, the man who smells so fucking good.
The man who you are terrified you have real feelings for.
No. It can’t be real feelings. For fucks sake he’s just sexy and you want him. That’s all that this is. If you like him them you’re a piece of shit. He’s married. It was bad enough that you fucked him over and over. Falling for him would make you pathetic.
Very subtly under the protection of the ornate tablecloth Tess insisted on, you let your hand stray to Joel's lap. At first it's a gentle rub of your thumb along his thigh, then a pinky edging the area near his groin. You feel him begin to swell under your digit and you squirm in your seat delightedly.
At this point Joel shifts, trying to shoot you a warning look but you're ignoring him, pretending to be fascinated by what Tess has to say about the meal preparation.
"And how do you get the turkey so moist?" You ask, pretending to listen as she goes into detail about her meal while you're stroking her husband's cock through his pants.
You know why you’re doing it; it's a feeling of being territorial over Joel which is useless because he isn't yours. Joel Miller is married. He's your best friend’s dad. He's in love with his wife and nothing can change that.
You feel Joel's hand on your wrist, and you think he means to move your hand off of him. You almost hum when you feel him curving your hand to grip him around the head, tugging slowly a moment before pulling you off completely. The silent "later" implied in his actions.
///
"Let's watch a movie after dinner," Tess suggests on as the dinner plates are cleared by Joel. "All of us together."
"Sounds good," you say as Sarah agrees before looking at you. You nod in agreement as Tess goes to make the popcorn and Sarah says she has to call Charlie quick.
“Behave during this one,” Joel murmurs from behind you. You feel Joel's hand brush against your ass as you pass in front of him in the hallway, squeezing and you hold in a smile.
When everyone returns to the living room Tess flicks through the guide and you all decide on a cheesy hallmark movie to watch together. You sit next to Tess and Joel on the sofa, popcorn bowl on your lap and you watch the film and for once your thoughts aren't depraved.
You all tease Sarah for sitting too close to the TV as per usual. You laugh at the ridiculous and predictable plot. The only time Joel touches you is when he passes you a soda you requested and his forefinger drifts over yours.
"We're going to miss having you around," Tess says during one of the commercials. "We've loved having you both here."
Joel nods, his eyes on the television. You don’t let yourself look at him for too long. Instead you focus on Tess’ smiling face next to you. You give her a smile, feeling your cheeks pinking.
"Thanks. I really like it here."
Sarah flashes you a grin from her seat by the TV. You feel a strange feeling forming as you look from her to Tess. You didn't want to like the woman beside you, but you do. She's nice. She's a bit bland, but that's not a crime. You stomach twists as you think of all the kindness she’s shown you.
Guilt. It's finally arrived right on time.
The movie ends and Sarah announces she's going to bed. Tess does the same giving a stretch. Joel murmurs something about working on some work emails, pulling out his phone and tapping away.
You stand, going to follow Sarah but Joel grabs your wrist as you walk by, stopping you from sailing by him. You glance down to see him looking up at you, brow raised in question.
"We shouldn't," you whisper before extricating yourself from his warm grip. You don't look back as you head to the guest room.
///
Hours later you find yourself unable to sleep. The ache between your legs is almost as bad as the crack starting in your heart.
Joel. Joel. Joel.
It started as a casual fuck, a simple need to feel him everywhere. The connection was palpable from the start and when he'd finally given in? Eating you out on the table, fucking you in the guest room, the truck, it had been magic.
But it's not just the sex is it?
No, it's not. Thinking of a real life with Joel Miller makes your body break out in delicious shivers, prickling with desire. Imagining how it would be to fuck him without fear of being caught, to wear his ring, to cook for him, to have his arm around your waist as you go to the movies.
Fuck. You're so fucking stupid.
A glance at your phone tells you it's almost three am. You push yourself out of the bed, starting to pace around the small guest room before deciding that you need some fresh air.
The house is quiet and dark when you creep out into the hallway. You decide the garage will be a good spot to cool down without alerting the entire household and you slip into it.
"What're you doin' in here?"
You nearly jump back at the soft voice. You glance over to see a small light from the corner, hooked to a woodworking table. Joel is seated before the table, a scattering of wood and tools sat on it. He's looking at you with surprise.
"I'm sorry," you stammer. "I didn't think anyone would be in here."
"S' alright," Joel says, tilting his head inviting you to stay. You close the door behind you before shuffling over to where he sits at his workbench.
"What are you doing?"
"Wood carving," he tells you. "Relaxes me."
You remember when you’d noticed it earlier, the collection of tools and small figures scattered across the top. Your eyes don’t rest there long, they quickly move to Joel’s handsome face.
"Why are you carving at three in the morning?"
"Probably the same reason you're up wanderin' the house."
His dark eyes capture yours and you feel your body responding in kind. Your nipples tighten under your nightdress. Joel's gaze dips to them before he's forcing his attention back to the table.
You watch him sweep away the wood shavings, tidying up the area. It feels calm to watch him do this chore and not for the first time you muse that you would love a life watching Joel do domestic tasks.
"S' funny, after the first time I thought you were a fucking demon sent to ruin my life," Joel says quietly with a smirk, twisting the carving tool between his fingertips before placing it in the drawer. "Now I realize s'the opposite. You got me and Tess back on track, you got me and Sarah really talkin' and you made me feel..."
He trails off, looking shy until you gently nudge him with your shoulder, brows raised.
"Feel what?"
"You made me feel sexy again," he says unable to look at you as he does. The corner of your mouth hooks up into a grin.
"You really didn't think you were sexy, Joel?"
"I mean, I know I'm not awful to look at," Joel says chuckling embarrassedly. "Just... Ya know. You get older; feel like your best days are behind you..."
"Not the case for you, I promise."
Now Joel allows himself to look at you, his throat bobbing. A look comes into his eyes that softens around the edges.
"You are a special girl, you know."
"Yeah yeah," you say rolling your eyes and flushing with embarrassment. You're not familiar with praise like this; earnest and gentle and not whispered huskily as he comes inside you.
You go to head back to the guest room but Joel's hand reaches out and holds you by the hip. You prepare yourself for him to push you to your knees but instead he urges you lean back against the workbench, your body tilted back between his legs.
You breathe heavily, feeling his endless eyes studying your face. His head moves forward and you feel his soft mouth kiss the side of your neck. You whisper a sigh at the delicate sensation. Joel's hands slide under your nightdress, coming to curl around the hem of your panties.
You think of Tess and how kind she's been to you and a new surge of guilt overwhelms you. You pull back, immediately hating the feeling of being out of his orbit but knowing you shouldn’t keep going.
"Joel maybe we shouldn't-"
"Don't start pretending you don't want it now," Joel murmurs up at you. "S'too late for that and we both know it. Get these off for me."
You know he's right. You allow him to pull your panties down over your legs before stepping out of them. Joel shoves them into the pocket of his sweatpants. Your face heats up as Joel's pushes your nightdress up until he sees the shine of your sex already glossy on your inner thighs.
"Show me the rest."
You bring up your nightdress, bunching it under your chin, showing him your tits and smiling when he groans softly.
His head dips forward again, mouth coming to press a delicate kiss against your sternum. You feel your breath leave you when his hands slide up and come to cup your breasts before squeezing and kneading.
"Beautiful girl."
You let out a soft whine until Joel's eyes narrow on yours. He brings his mouth to your cheek.
"Gotta be quiet," Joel whispers huskily against your ear. "Everyone's asleep. Can you be quiet for me?"
You nod emphatically, urging his mouth to your breast, hand at the base of his skull, tangled in his hair. He smirks up at you before his mouth moves to your nipple, eyes closing as his teeth begin to worry the straining nub. You swallow your moan at the electric shocks that zap through you. He licks and sucks, working you up before pulling back.
"Can't wait any more," Joel whispers.
Then Joel is on his knees, kissing down your abdomen, your hips as you quiver under his touch. His hands hold you in place as he presses lust fueled kisses down your body, invisible marks that claim you. Then he settles there, kissing just below your navel.
"Wanna thank you for all you did for me," Joel rumbles. You hold in a whimper, allowing Joel to take your right leg and shift it over his shoulder, opening you to him. You watch as he slowly licks a stripe up the center of your cunt, eyes on you the entire time.
Fuck.
Your hands grip the edge of the table, eyes shuttering. Joel smirks, pleased with your reaction. His hands go over your ass, skimming there and tilting you so that his lips can graze against your labia more easily.
"So pretty," he croons, licking gently, his eyes falling shut as he savors the moment. "’N so fucking sweet."
He kisses your inner thigh so slowly and reverently it makes tears come to your eyes but you blink them back when he gazes back up at you.
"You're gonna be a good girl for me aren't you?"
His full lips curl into a smile when you whimper a soft yes and then his mouth descends over your cunt, tongue piercing you. You groan in quiet harmony with his hands tightening around your hips. He flicks his tongue against your clit, growling softly when you whimper at the sensation.
"Shhhh," he hushes.
You cover your mouth with your hand, hips undulating against Joel's greedy mouth. He feels so good, so hungry, so desperate for you. It makes your body tingle all over as his mouth works over your clit, sucking gently as you buck against him.
His fingertips dimple your ass, pulling your cunt now firmly against his mouth. He presses his lips there giving sloppy open mouthed kisses as your spine curls. His nose nudges your clit, rubbing as his tongue laps and flicks.
He works at you longer and your fingers twist in his curls. You force yourself to memorize everything about the moment. The way his eyes are shut lightly as he moans into your cunt, the way his hair is so soft under your fingers, his body so warm against you.
You soon edge your orgasm, feeling that fire being stoked higher and bigger. It makes your thighs tremble against Joel's ears and he smiles against your pussy.
"Joel," you whisper in a broken whisper. "I'm getting close."
"S'not my name," Joel says muffled from between your thighs.
"Gonna come, M-mister Miller."
"Mhmm," he offers between your legs as his eyes dart back to your face, his mouth still on your pussy. "Show Daddy how his good girl comes for him."
Your body tightens and Joel hums softly in approval as you come for him, your heart thundering. You feel your copious arousal being lapped up by the man between your legs who sighs as if this is all he's ever wanted in life.
You swallow the loud cry that has been building within your lungs and cover your mouth tightly. So tightly that when you remove them moments later their imprint remains like a ghostly kiss.
"Beautiful," Joel whispers, pressing his mouth to your cheek as he stands. "You did so fucking good for me."
The sound of his praise lifts you everywhere. You feel lighter, you feel joyful. You want so much to please him, to feel more of him, to make him feel as good as you feel.
"You next," you whisper huskily, kissing his earlobe.
"Don't need to," Joel says, shivering as your tongue comes to trace the flesh of his lobe. You hear him trying to muffle a groan deep in his throat. "Just wanted to make you feel good."
Your hand slides down the front of his sweatpants, hand gripping his already hard length and smiling as he curls into you. You start to stroke him through the fabric, your free hand on the back of his neck, twisting in his curls.
"We have to do something about this," you tease softly.
"You make me so goddam hard," he breathes against your temple as if this is shocking, as if no woman has ever made him this hard before.
"Good," you whisper against his ear, making sure to drag the last syllable before flicking your tongue over his earlobe. "Need you hard so I can ride you."
"Christ," Joel groans gently, his hips jutting forward into your palm. You drag your teeth down his neck, feeling his pulse under your mouth. He tugs himself free from his sweatpants and you can see the lust in his dark eyes.
Joel watches you move, lifting your nightdress over your head until you're there between he and the workbench totally naked.
"Gorgeous," he murmurs, eyes roving over your body.
His hands slide up to cup your breasts again and he lets his thumbs graze along your nipples, gratified by your little shiver at the sensation. He watches them pebble for him, his tongue coming to drag against his lower lip. Your hand circles the head of his weeping cock, tugging as you flash him your most innocent smile.
“Please fuck me, Mister Miller.”
Joel lets out a long shudder sigh, brows saddling. You lean forward to nip along his jaw, your eyelashes low and slowly blinking.
"Fuck me hard," you tell him, tilting him to sit on his stool. You're pushing his sweatpants down over his thighs and straddling him. "Give me something to remember."
"I can do that."
You hold in a squeak as he grips you around the waist and tugs your sopping cunt along his shaft. He slides between your legs slowly, extending the sensation of entering you. It's the last time and he wants to make it count.
He groans when you finally slide the rest of the way down his length, gasping quietly as he fills you. You sit on his lap like this, ankles crossing behind him.
You both don't move. You just sit there, Joel's cock buried within you throbbing. Your eyes search his face as his hands come to hold you by the lower back.
You finally shift slowly, rolling your hips slightly. Joel's eyelids flutter as you angle pelvis, milking him as you rock against him. His hands splay over your lower back, guiding your movements, his eyes where you two join.
"Feels so good," Joel murmurs, his eyes barely open.
Your arms wrap around his neck and you know he won't kiss you, so you rest your temple against his. It allows you to hear his shuddering breath in your ear and feel the fabric of his t-shirt against your naked chest.
"You make me feel so full," you whisper, hips rocking against his.
"Good," Joel breathes.
“Wanna stay like this forever," you mutter, eyes falling shut. His arms circle you, holding you a bit tighter against him. You shift once more, feeling his cock throb inside you.
Your lips graze his neck, dragging over the stubble of his jaw. He doesn't move, just keeps still when your mouth brushes his.
"I'm gonna miss this" you whisper. "Gonna miss this thick cock fucking me."
Joel groans into you cleavage, his hips starting to press up, and his cock nudging inside your walls.
"Don't know how I'm gonna survive without this pussy," Joel rumbles, his hands guiding your hips to continue rocking over him slowly.
"We could keep in contact," you offer, pulling back to search his face. "Texting?"
"Don't know that it's a good idea," Joel supplies after a beat.
"Maybe not," you agree, pelvis tilting. "Too bad. I'm really gonna miss you."
Then something changes. Maybe it's the realization that this is too intimate, to slow and sensual. Maybe you’ve shown your emotionally caught up hand. Whatever the reason Joel suddenly laces his hands under your ass and carries you over to the far wall of the garage. He presses your spine against the cool brick, his breathing ragged. He thrusts into you, your legs still crossed at the ankle behind him. You hold onto him, unable to tear your eyes from his handsome face.
"You'd really wanna text me?" He murmurs.
"Yes," you nod.
"Send me slutty little photos while I'm here with my wife?" Joel pants. "Make me have to go to the bathroom and jerk off? Be my dirty little secret?"
"Fuck yes," you say excitedly. The thought is turning you on so much and you can’t find it in yourself to hate it. "Yes I want that."
You hold onto his shoulders for purchase and begin to rut against his hips. He pins you to the wall as he begins to pound into you, his teeth clenched and his eyes on your mouth. You bite you lower lip to stop from crying out.
"Maybe I'll call you one night," Joel whispers against your ear, his full bottom lip grazing the lobe. "Tell you how to touch yourself. Hear those pretty little sounds you make."
Your head tilts back now at the very thought of it. Joel continues to rut into you against the wall, his thrusts going harder. But his hands grip yours, pinning them to the wall under his wide palms.
"Lemme see those tits bounce," he grinds out, eyes fixed on your jolting chest when he fucks up into you. "Uh huh, just like that."
A thought suddenly causes you to pale.
"The doors unlocked," you tell him as you remember. The Joel of you first time together would panic and would shuffle over and close it. This Joel just fucks you harder with a strange little smirk on his face that you've never seen before.
"Then I guess I'm gonna have to make sure you're quiet."
His wide hand goes over your mouth, sealing your cries of pleasure and it shouldn't turn you on so much but it does. The thrusting increases in tempo and the slap of your skin against one another is the only sound heard in the quiet garage.
"Thought about fucking you in here so many times," Joel admits. "Wanted to fuck you everywhere. Fuck this pussy raw."
He's grunting quietly as if he's trying so hard to keep himself from growling. His eyes are on yours, his pupils blown out.
"Use me," you tell him behind his palm, hips tilted and cunt glossy.
He does. His hips slam into yours so harshly it takes your breath away.
He pulls back to watch his cock sliding into your sopping cunt. He makes a wounded sound, his eyes blinking rapidly as if he can’t believe its happening. He’s completely overtaken by lust, his teeth clenching as he fucks into you brutally, his taut belly slamming into yours.
"You feel so fucking good," he groans against your ear as he bottoms out again.
He doesn't even care about your clit or your pleasure right now. He's chasing his own high, desperate for release and that makes your arousal flood over his cock. He notices and gives a soft nibble to your neck.
"You like me filling this pussy up? Using you like a little fuck doll?"
You nod behind his hand, your eyes cheating to the back of your head at the vulgarity. He keeps hitting within you deep, making your body twitch in delight.
"Take it all," he pants against your jaw. "Take all my fucking cock like a good little slut."
You whimper in agreement, wrists pinned to the wall by his hands when all you want to do is run your nails down his back, marking him as yours. You want this to happen over and over again. You want him to use you, to fuck you, to make love to you. You want to suck his cock and lick the come he offers you. You want him to fuck your ass because no one has before and you want to give it to him. You want him to have everything you can give him and you want it over and over.
His finger starts to rub over your clit, his breath huffing over your cheeks as he watches you. You were already so close just at the friction of his cock between your legs. But now, your eyes flutter open to fix on his.
“I need it,” he tells you.
“I know.”
You swallow your second release, your spine arching against the cool brick as you come for him. He watches all of this with saddled brows and the faintest whimper escaping him. You moan gently, eyes opening to see him still watching you.
He releases your remaining wrists so both his broad hands can go around your waist, holding you in place as his hips begin to roll. His cock circles within you, stirring your ardor for him. He's so gorgeous, so blissfully fucked out, rambling about how you feel so perfect around him. His mouth is parted as he groans gently, eyes starting to roll back as his head moves to your shoulder.
"Tell me you'll come see me at college."
You say it impulsively but there's an edge of desperation in your voice. But Joel isn't thinking, he's cunt-struck and his hips don't slow.
"I will," Joel groans into your neck. "Fuck, I will."
"Tell me you'll fuck me in my bed there," you say as he thrusts into you against the wall so hard you see stars.
"Yes," Joel whispers, head dropping against your neck as his hips slap against yours. "I'll fuck you there, baby. Fuck you anywhere you want."
Baby. Baby. Baby.
He's yours in some way. In some small incremental way he's yours. You don't know if he means it, but you think he might.
"Come deep," you groan softly in his ear. "Please, Joel. W-wanna feel you tomorrow."
"Yes," he pants out. "Gonna get my come good girl. S'all for you."
He begins thrusting brutally into you against the wall of his garage, hips slamming into yours, hands gripping your ass so tightly it aches. You feel him release with you, warm and thick. You watch his face, seeing the pinched look to his features before he relaxes and his head tilts forward.
Your damp foreheads press together as you both catch your breath, your breathing starting to slowly match in rhythm. Despite the circumstances it feels almost intimate.
He lowers your feet to the floor, arms still loosely around your waist. You stand shakily, your palms against his chest as you find your balance. You watch as he tucks himself back into his sweatpants and leans down to grab your nightdress from where it's fallen onto the floor. He tugs it on over your head, smoothing it over your body, his hands lingering.
Your eyes flutter up to meet his open gaze and without thinking you press your mouth to his. His lips are warm and soft. Joel pauses at the contact, about to pull away but then you feel him relent, mouth opening and his tongue seeking yours briefly. His hands begin tightening around the pinch of your waist but then he must remember himself because then he pulls back, planting a slow kiss to the corner of your mouth before straightening.
"G'night."
"G'night."
He nods, watching you leave the garage, heading back to the guest room.
///
He's nowhere to be seen the next morning. Sarah notices it first as she passes you a bowl of cereal. When her stepmom walks into the kitchen Sarah notices that she looks frazzled and is muttering to herself.
"Where's dad, Tess?"
"I think your dad has a cold," Tess says with a frown, patting at her pockets. "He's in bed. Says he doesn't wanna get you both sick right before you get back to school. Don’t worry I’ll be driving you two to the airport. Don’t want you missing your flight."
Your stomach drops. You won't even be able to say goodbye to him. No quiet thank you, no last image of his dark eyes on yours. Just driving in silence to the airport as you mourn a relationship that never was.
The three of you eat a quick breakfast before you load up your luggage into the car. You go back inside for your remaining belongings and any last minute things left behind.  Sarah asks you to take her hat to the car with you.
“I’ll be right there, just gonna say goodbye to my dad.”
You linger in the kitchen listening to the sound of his rumbling voice through the door and you think about waiting outside the room to say your goodbye as well. But it would look weird going into his bedroom to say goodbye. As far as everyone knows you barely know Joel.
Last night was your farewell to Joel Miller.
"Before I forget," Tess says to Sarah as you both load into the car. She reaches into her coat pocket. "Your dad made you this. Says he didn't want you to forget him while you were away at school."
Sarah opens her box and gives a little giggle. "Awww dad." She pulls out a small carved soccer ball. Sarah is at school on a sports scholarship so it's only appropriate.
“That’s so sweet,” Tess says with an indulgent smile. You nod, forcing a smile onto your face as well before looking out the window to the house. A part of you had been desperately hoping that his window blinds would be open, but no such luck.
You swallow your disappointment at having no tangible totem from Joel.  No artifact to take back with you. No physical reminder of what you two shared and so you sit in the car with your eyes downcast into your palms.
"And this one's for you."
Your head jerks up as Tess says your name, smiling warmly and handing you back a small box. "Joel said it was so you could remember your time with us."
"Thank you."
Your heart hammers and you hurriedly open it, unable to stop your hands from shaking. Tess and Sarah are busy chatting in the front seat, giving you a moment of privacy and you’re impossibly thankful for it.
When you peer into the small box you feel your chest grow warm. Inside is a beautiful and delicate looking carved piece of wood. You recognize it as what Joel was working on last night. You gingerly take it from the box, holding it to the light.
A snowflake.
You look at the little carved snowflake. The same design as the one from your skirt when you baked together. The day Joel gave in and initiated. Your eyes pick up on a small piece of paper folded at the bottom of the box with Joel's messy scrawl. You open it covertly in case it's something inappropriate.
A snowflake never falls in the wrong place.
And his phone number at the bottom, written in small script. You feel your waterline spill over as you read the words once, twice.
Tess puts the key in the ignition and a sudden clutch is at your heart. You swallow the lump in your throat.
"Shit, I forgot my wallet inside," you say. "Gimme two minutes."
"No rush," Sarah says with a yawn. "Tess always makes us leave too early for the airport anyway."
You scramble out of the car, your footsteps a desperate drum on the pavement as you rush back inside the Miller home. You throw the front door closed before scrambling down the hallway to his room.
"Joel!"
You whirl the door to his bedroom open and see him sitting on his bed much like the first time you two were alone. Only now he's curled in a seated position with his forearms on his knees and when he looks up at you in surprise his dark eyes are wet.
"What're you doin' here?"
He moves off the bed as you hold up the small carving he made for you. He softly smiles.
"You're one of a kind, Snowflake."
You let out a sob before you throw yourself into his waiting arms. Joel holds you tightly, chin on the top of your head, whispering soothing words.
"I can't leave you," you tell him through hiccupping sobs, tears staining his shirt. "I-I'm in love with you, Joel."
Joel makes a soft sighing noise and it doesn't sound like irritation or malice. It sounds like pain.
"I know it probably feels like that," Joel says, hands cupping your face so that you'll look at him. "But this ain't love, sweetheart."
"It is!" You insist. "I've never felt the way I do about you. I love you and you love me, don't you?"
"Honey," Joel says and it's in a voice so strained you have to look up at him. He's staring down at you, his dark eyes glassy.
"This is just connection," he explains tenderly. "And you'll have others, I promise. So much stronger than this."
And you know he's right. You've known it all along but nursed this fantasy of a life with him. A future. Connection. That feels right when he says it. It feels right to explain what's gone on here. But there's a part of you that can't let him go. Not just yet.
"Will you come see me at college?"
Joel is thoughtful, brushing the hair from your wet eyes.
"Not sure. Gotta think on that one."
You nod, sniffling. You want to say so much more but you hear Tess beep the car horn.
"I better go," you say pocketing the small carving and giving him a sad look. "Thank you for everything."
You step back, your eyes full of longing as you stare at him. Joel brings a finger to your chin, tilting your face more fully up. His dark eyes scan yours for what seems like ages before dipping to your mouth. You swallow a surprised gasp when he finally, blessedly presses his lips to yours.
It’s nothing like last night which was quick and needy. This is slow and unhurried, his hands going to your jaw and tilting so he can lick lightly into your mouth. You wrap your arms around his neck and whimper for him and he kisses you soft and gentle. Tess beeps the car horn once more and you two reluctantly break apart.
"You're welcome here any time," he tells you, stroking your tearstained cheek with his knuckle. "I mean that. And if you ever need anything you just call me. You have my number now."
His sincerity is so palpable you can't help but kiss the corner of his full mouth gently. His mouth chases yours, sweeping another full lipped kiss to yours.
Your hand goes to his chest over his heart, needing one last touch as if proving to yourself that he was real.
"Thanks, Mister Miller."
He smiles. "Call me Joel."

“Hey, Mama?”
“Yeah, H?”
“Can you do me a favor?”
*.*.*.*.*.*.*.*.*.*.*.*.*.*.*.*.*.*.*.*.*.*.*.*.*.*.*.*.*.*.*.*.*.*.*.
“So, why did you want me to cut your hair? I thought Jeff asked you about it before we left London.”
Harry tried not to move much because his hair was between Y/n’s fingers as she snipped away. “He did.”
“And you didn’t get it done beforehand because...”
“I like when you do it,” he said simply.
Y/n didn’t bother hiding her blush. During lockdown, she took on the mantle of keeping Harry and the rest of the Styles family groomed. Afterwards, Harry went back to getting his hair styled professionally, but she thought him asking her to do it was sweet.
“Your fans are gonna riot,” she said, running a hand through his hair to find the next strand to trim. “Not to mention your children.”
Harry’s fans weren’t the only ones who loved his longer hair. Each one of their kids, from Simone all the way down to little Natalia, loved their dad’s hair, gripping a piece of it in their tiny fists whenever he held one of them in his arms.
He merely shrugged, as much as he could with Y/n still cutting his hair. “I feel like it puts me in the right mindset for a show.”
Y/n and Harry sat in silence after that; she had a feeling he was enjoying having her full attention, a rare occurrence now that they had six children.
Six. Some days Y/n still had a hard time wrapping her head around it. They started their family when they were so young—just teenagers—and now Simone was ten years old.
But the decision to expand their family wasn’t made until Harry and Y/n were older, after Harry wasn’t in One Direction anymore, and the rules weren’t so strict, and they felt like they were ready to take care of another baby—as ready as anyone can be, anyway.
So then came Collette, and then the twins, Julian and Maeve, shortly after. Y/n was sure that four children was plenty, had told Harry she would go back on birth control again when she found the time. He pouted, but agreed, especially since they were now raising two infants at the same time instead of just one. But then lockdown happened, and Harry was around a whole lot more than he normally was, and Geneva was the result. Their last child, Natalia, also came as a surprise, though no one but Harry and Y/n thought so. But she was the perfect addition to their family, and Harry and Y/n couldn’t have been happier.
“Are you all coming tomorrow night?” Harry asked, breaking the silence.
Y/n had moved to face Harry in order to get some of the pieces right at his hairline. “It’s a school night, my love, remember? But we’ll be there Friday.”
Harry nodded, understanding, though Y/n knew he loved when all of his babies watched him perform. Now that Simone and Collette were old enough to be in school, Y/n and the kids couldn’t travel with Harry unless it was during summer or winter break. They’d had lots of discussions about homeschooling so the family could be together more, but ultimately decided their children needed as much of a normal upbringing as possible, and honestly, homeschool would just mean more work for Y/n when she was already juggling so much.
“Can you call the sitter?” he asked.
Frowning a little, Y/n paused what she was doing and tipped her husband’s chin up with a finger. She could sense there was something he was thinking about, but wasn’t saying. “What’s wrong?”
Harry met her gaze, his hair now short and cleared away from his face. Y/n wouldn’t lie, she loved when his hair was on the longer side too, but she did think this haircut suited him as well.
He took her hand and kissed her knuckles. “Nothing’s wrong. I just like when you’re there. You missed the entire last leg of the tour. And I know why, but I just miss having you, all of you, around.”
“I know. We miss you too, H,” Y/n sighed, her heart squeezing at the look on her husband’s face.
Harry was quick to pull her into his lap, content to wait before finishing up his haircut. He tipped forward until his nose was pressed against her chest and breathed in deeply, and Y/n held him tightly.
She knew why he was so down without him having to express himself fully. Since Simone was a baby, he always became anxious about leaving for long periods of time, and the next leg of his tour was booked out for the next few months. It was a long time, especially when young kids were involved.
Raising a family while Harry traveled the world wasn’t easy. There were of course the good moments where Harry was able to spend time with Y/n and the kids, using old tactics to sneak around and find someplace private while they spent the day together. And Y/n loved seeing the world too. She loved seeing Harry perform and point him out to Collette or Maeve or Julian as he danced onstage. “That’s your Dadda,” she would say, helping them dance or clap along to the music.
And so things slowly went back to normal, or perhaps better than normal. They were with life at home and learning the delicate balance their family operated on. He loved music and performing, but all of that could wait.
But then of course there were the more difficult moments, where Y/n and the kids had to stay home while Harry toured. There were arguments about missing recitals and games and whether those tacked on extra nights on tour were really worth it when Y/n felt like she was raising their kids by herself. “I had dreams of my own, you know,” she said once. She regretted it immediately, especially when she would never change her life for a moment. But it had to be said. Y/n felt like she was on an island by herself while her husband travelled all over the world on huge tours. And when he was home, he was working on new music. Things were supposed to be different after One Direction. Harry promised that life would be different, but they weren't, and Y/n was going to keep putting up with it.
Harry came home from tour and more harsh words were shared. He tried to convince her that he could fix everything, but she was way past believing in him, and then they were both alone. Harry eventually came home, determined to make things right. He felt like a part of him would always be making up for letting his family down. Y/n tried to tell him that wasn't necessary anymore, especially when she became pregnant again because she wouldn't be having her fifth child with him if she didn't believe in him, but he wouldn’t hear it. “We’re a team,” he’d said. “We’ve always been a team. Letting you down will always be my greatest regret. I’m sorry.”
But things were a little different now. Half their children were older and Natalia wasn’t even walking yet, though all of them needed stability. With just one look at Harry, Y/n knew what was bothering him.
“You’re a great dad, H.”
And since they were as alone as they could be raising six kids, Harry felt comfortable to shake his head against her. Y/n continued to hold him, letting him get out whatever he needed to.
“I—I don’t want to feel like a stranger in my own home, my own family.”
There were times where Harry would come home from a long tour stretch and Geneva or Maeve or Julian wouldn’t like to be held by him. Because to them, as infants, he was unfamiliar. It killed Harry, the realization that he’d been gone too long that his own children would cry when he picked them up or look at him without an ounce of recognition. It was why shortly after his first tour as a solo artist he decided to take a break from touring and making music. The fight with Y/n was part of it, but at the end of the day, Harry just wanted to be a dad, and wanted to give Y/n a chance to pursue a career after being a full time stay at home mom for so many years. He had been so used to One Direction’s style of working in the industry, which was to say that you never stopped. But it put a strain on his relationships then, and it was doing the same thing as a new solo artist. He wanted a different life, a different approach to his passion, so he decided to slow down, focus on being a dad and a partner. It was how Y/n eventually went back to school and picked up styling hair.
She saw all of it written on Harry’s face, all the insecurity and fear. Each one plaguing him despite how proud she was of his success as an artist and a father. He didn’t give himself enough credit, not nearly enough. Their family had this life because of him.
“I’ll figure something out,” Y/n promised, kissing his forehead.
Harry shook his head, the ends of his hair tickling her nose. “You don’t have to, Mama. I know school is—”
“Family is important too,” she said, knowing what he had been about to say.
He nodded, but didn’t say anything else.
Y/n kissed him once on the lips before standing up again. School would be out soon, and Geneva and Natalia would be waking up from their naps any minute now. As usual, Y/n would pick up while Harry took care of the little ones, as the knowledge of the Styles family remained a secret all these years. Some people knew, of course. The first time the secret had unintentionally been revealed being when Simone gave a report about her family tree, and her teacher called Y/n in for a meeting to tell her that her daughter believed her dad was a world famous musician. That was quite the parent-teacher conference, but she and Harry handled it. So teachers and administration knew, and NDAs were handed out left and right to protect the children’s privacy, but it was easier for Y/n to pick up the kids from school as opposed to Harry.
“And...There! All done.”
Y/n handed a mirror to Harry so he could inspect her handiwork. She’d seen his hair done enough that she knew what he liked, but she opted for something ever so slightly different, leaving a little more hair on the top so it would curl on his forehead some. She thought it framed his face better than when he pushed it back.
“I look younger,” he said, eyes still on the handheld mirror.
“You look handsome,” Y/n replied. “Or you will once you shave that thing off your lip.”
That definitely got his attention. “Hey.”
“I’m kidding,” Y/n teased. She kissed him on the cheek. “Kind of.”
“Come here,” Harry demanded.
He grabbed ahold of his wife’s waist before kissing her all over. His stubble scratched her neck, her jaw, her cheeks, as Harry moved around, planting loud, opened-mouthed kisses everywhere he could.
Y/n shrieked and giggled, trying to push away from him, but to no avail. “Harry! Ha—”
A cry sounded from the baby monitor sitting on the coffee table. Geneva. Harry and Y/n paused, waiting to see if she would turn over and go back to sleep or if she was truly awake.
Another cry, followed by a different one from another monitor.
“I’ll get Natalia,” Y/n said, and this time Harry let her go.
“GiGi,” Harry replied.
Like a team breaking from a huddle, they went to their daughters’ rooms to bring an end to the crying and met back downstairs to change and feed them. By now, Y/n and Harry were practically a well-oiled machine. They moved around each other to fill bottles and strap the girls into high chairs, and finished with singing‘Itsy Bitsy Spider’ when Geneva showed signs that she was about to cry. It was a system that worked for many years when they were at home together, and one that was perfected during lockdown. Before long, Geneva was sucking on a pouch while Natalia slowly brought yogurt chips to her mouth.
Harry raised his arm up, and Y/n met him halfway for the high five. Distance or no, they always made a good team.
Once the girls were fed, Y/n began getting ready to pick up the rest of their children. Harry kept the girls entertained, but she felt his eyes track her throughout the kitchen. Once she was done, she went over to him and gave him a kiss.
“How about we go to the venue for rehearsal, stay for the opening act and the first couple songs, and then I’ll take the kids home early,” she said against his hair, rubbing a hand up and down his arm.
“Really?”
She kissed his cheek. “I told you I would figure something out.”
Harry grinned down at her. “You always do.”
*.*.*.*.*.*.*.*.*.*.*.*.*.*.*.*.*.*.*.*.*.*.*.*.*.*.*.*.*.*.*.*.*.*.*.
Later that night, the Styles residence was filled with its usual commotion.
“I want Elsa!”
“We watched Frozen last week!”
“Elsa!”
“Mama, can we have chocolate?”
“I want to sit next to Daddy!”
“Move over!”
Harry tipped his head back against the couch and prayed for patience.
He thought a movie would be a fun way to end the night, and while he wasn’t sure why Y/n gave him a look of caution before, he certainly did now. His wife, of course, was upstairs putting Geneva and Natalia to bed while he got the movie set up, though now he guessed Y/n was letting him deal with all the chaos while she hid.
But Harry didn’t particularly care. He loved being home and being part of all the craziness, even the silly fights over what movie they were going to watch.
Julian, the only boy in the Styles family, sat in his father’s lap quietly, almost like he was just waiting for Simone and Maeve to stop fighting over what they were going to watch. His hair was long and curled at the ends, a result of him crying and screaming every time Y/n tried to take him to get his hair cut or do it herself. So they eventually gave up and let Jules grow it out.
“What do you want to watch?” Harry asked his son.
Julian shrugged and curled himself against Harry’s chest. It seemed he was content to just be with his dad, and Harry couldn’t help but agree.
However, when Maeve tried to rip the remote out of Simone’s hands, Harry finally stepped in.
“Alright. Saturday we’ll watch Elsa. Tonight we’ll let Simone pick. Come here, Maeve.”
Maeve was a spitfire like her mother, loud where Jules was quiet. He never imagined a preschooler to be so opinionated, but she always had something to say.
Giving up, Maeve took the spot on Harry’s right. Collette was on his left, tracing the tattoos on his arm absentmindedly. Simone finally settled on a movie, and by some kind of miracle, the house went quiet as the opening credits rolled.
He hadn’t been doing a typical tour recently, which helped him be at home more, but being at home was almost as exhausting as being on the road. He watched the cartoon with Julian on his chest, Maeve and Collette on either side of him, but before long, his eyes began to droop, each blink becoming more prolonged than the last until he didn’t open them again.
*.*.*.*.*.*.*.*.*.*.*.*.*.*.*.*.*.*.*.*.*.*.*.*.*.*.*.*.*.*.*.*.*.*.*.
Y/n came downstairs once GiGi and Natalia were fast asleep. She had lunches to pack and breast milk to pump before tucking the rest of her little ones into bed, but it wouldn’t take too long.
Half expecting utter chaos, Y/n’s eyes widened at the scene in front of her. Harry was fast asleep, and so was Julian, who rested on top of him, one hand up by his dad’s neck like he was reaching for something that wasn’t there anymore. Maeve dozed beside Harry, and Collette was getting close. Simone was the only one wide awake and watching the movie, her choice by the looks of it.
Y/n went over to her oldest and kissed the top of her dark hair. “How long has everyone been out?”
“Dad lasted about twenty minutes, I think.”
“A record for him,” Y/n mused.
Simone grinned wide. Seeing how long Harry lasted during a movie was something of an ongoing joke between them, and Y/n liked to think her oldest daughter liked that they shared something that was just between the two of them.
“Will you help me get Maeve upstairs?”
Nodding, Simone paused her movie and took her sister into her arms while Y/n grabbed Collette. She took Julian up next, tucking him into his racecar bed before turning on his night light and closing the door. Harry was still out cold when Y/n came back down, but Simone was at his side while she resumed the movie.
By the time the movie ended, Y/n was wrapping up in the kitchen and Harry was stretching his arms after his impromptu nap. Blinking with bleary eyes, he said, “Sorry, bug. I didn’t mean to fall asleep.”
Simone grinned over the top of his head at her mom, who shot her daughter a wink. “That’s okay.”
Harry looked between his two girls like he was missing something, but didn’t comment on it. “Come on. Up to bed then.”
Simone kissed her dad on the cheek, then skipped over to Y/n to do the same to her before going upstairs, leaving Harry and Y/n alone in the dark.
Looking around, Harry realized all of his children had gone to bed at some point. “I swear we have more than one kid.”
“They’re all fast asleep.”
“Really?”
“Mmhm.”
“Well then,” Harry said, his voice low after being asleep. “Might need to take advantage of this rare moment to ourselves.”
Y/n sat herself down on his lap and ran a hand through his short hair. “You know, I can’t help but agree.”
There wasn’t much talking after that. Harry was quick to capture Y/n’s bottom lip between his own, pulling her as close as she could possibly be. Y/n kissed him back, sighing as he brushed his tongue against hers again and again. She kneaded the muscles in his shoulders, gripping hard when a hand dipped beneath the waistband of her jeans.
“Love you,” Harry panted, kissing the spot where her jaw met her ear.
“Love—”
Y/n couldn’t get the words out fast enough before he was on her again, pushing her into the couch until she was spread across it.
They didn’t take it much further than that. Y/n knew Harry was too tired for more, but she didn’t mind. Sometimes kissing and touching took her back to a time when they were younger and only had one baby to look after. It made her realize that even after all these years, they were still crazy for each other.
Eventually tiredness won out, and they went upstairs, though Harry kissed Y/n’s neck the whole way to their room. It stopped, however, when they entered their bedroom and he realized they weren’t alone anymore.
“My money’s on Jules,” Harry said softly.
“Could be Collette,” Y/n countered.
They crept into the room towards the bed, and upon closer inspection, they realized Harry was right. Julian was asleep on Y/n’s side of the bed, his stuffed Mickey Mouse tucked under one arm.
Shrugging, they went about their nightly routines and got into bed. Harry kissed his wife once mumbling, “Love you, Mama,” before setting his head down on the pillow.
When Harry woke up, there were three more children in his bed, one of them on top of him completely. An excellent start to his morning, if you asked him.

THE BEST DAY
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
summary: older hughes sister and her mama ellen hughes ⭐️
pairings: ellen hughes x daughter!hughes!reader
fluff fluff fluff its also lowkey so bad n short
Tumblr media
five years old
it was getting cold in toronto. your big coat fell to your knees as you looked up at your mom with a big grin on your face. she held your seven month old brother as your father held quinn’s hands, helping him skate.
you carefully moved around on the ice, scared to fall. you do well for a solid few seconds before falling straight on your butt, causing your mom to laugh.
instead of crying, you look up smiling at her, immediately getting up from the ice. you quickly skate past her before slipping again. another laugh erupts from your mothers throat.
the sky is slowly turning gold as it sets, signaling it was time to go home. you whine as your mom takes your skates off.
your dad holds baby jack now. quinn is sitting beside you, legs kicking back and forth as he waits for help. your mom slides your boots on and immediately you get off the bench, hugging her legs with a whine.
“i dont want to leave yet.” you groaned. your words muffled due to her pants. she just chuckled and helped quinn.
then, on the ride home, you were fast asleep.
when you woke up, you still had five minutes left until you got home, and both quinn and jack were asleep.
you wondered why the trees changed colors over time, watching them as you passed by each and every one.
you also wondered how your mom wasnt scared that your dad was driving, he speeds!
you rub your eyes.
“i had the best day today” you yawned.
thirteen years old
your friends were mean. really mean. they kicked you from the lunch table, stopped inviting you to hangouts. every class you had with them, they’d ignore you or leave you alone during partner projects.
it came to the point where you were crying as you got home. you opened the door, tears falling down your cheeks as you threw your bag to the floor.
upon hearing the sound, your mother rushed towards you. “hey, hey, honey whats wrong?” she asked.
she immediately pulled you into an embrace. you cried on her shoulder, “why are they all so mean mama? im nothing but nice!” you cried.
she sighed and held you tight. when she pulled away, her hands stayed on your shoulders. “lets go for a drive, okay?” she spoke.
you nodded and wiped your tears as she grabbed the keys.
you both drove and drove until you were a few towns away, where no one would know you guys. you talked, and talked, and talked.
you told her everything that had been going on. everything that they were saying and doing to you. after ranting, she took you window shopping until you forgot all of their names.
when you made it home, you got scared. who were you gonna talk to at school? but then you remembered, you still have the laughter when you’re with your mom.
it may take awhile to feel better but,
“i had the best day with you.” you told.
you have an excellent father. one whos strength makes you stronger. one whos smarts may not always be at its peak but hits it every now and then. one whos cared for you to his very core.
you have perfect younger brothers, who you believe are better than you, inside and out. but altogether you guys are a perfect family.
you grew up in a pretty home, one where you had space to run and hide, and call yours. one where you were able to paint your room a bright pink.
and that place, was where you had the best days of your life.
twenty five years old
you were searching through your old stuff. there you found a camera and immediately you got to charging it. you were three, your mother was still pregnant with quinn.
she set up your paint set in the kitchen, knowing it’d be easier to pick up. in the video, she talked to you. asked what you were painting. to which you responded, “a princess!”
it was a bad painting of a princess on a pirate ship, a really bad painting. so bad, you laughed through your tears as you watched it in your lonesome apartment.
the camera zoomed in to your mother, your father obviously being the one to take the video. shes the prettiest lady in the whole wide world.
now you know why the trees change colors. you know your mother was on your side, even when you were wrong, like when you pushed a kid for calling a teacher ‘stupid’ in the fourth grade.
you were grateful for her, for her watching you shine and become who you were today. you dont know if she knows, but, you always had the best days with her.

Chapter Two: Discoveries, birds and bees.
Max verstappen x Lando norris x Charles leclerc x reader
Genre: idk man it's a series

Warnings: mentions of abuse, talks of sickness, injury descriptions, SH and Suicidal ideation
Notes: it's gonna get dark, but have no fear it will get better, I swear. Also, please don't read if you get triggered. Max had quickly learned that this girl was the only one who understood him. She somehow knew exactly what he was thinking. Exactly what he needed. It was ridiculous because he felt that he couldn't reciprocate.
The two had formed their own little team. Max would sneak away with his data to see her, and she would tell him everything he needed to fix in a way he actually understood. Not just being talked at for hours about his mistakes.
He didn't realize someone could nicely tell him what he was doing wrong and also compliment him on things he was doing right. The concept was foreign.
He quickly found himself looking for her all the time. She looked fragile compared to everyone else. Like the wind could pull her away.
But he also couldn't get a read on her quite yet.
Seb, on the other hand, had learned much more in the span of a couple of months. Things that didn't make him any less concerned.
He quickly found that her favorite hobby was doing incredibly stupid things that could get her hurt or even killed. Even the mundane daily tasks. It's like if he didn't feel pain, then she was doing something wrong. He blames it on her prior upbringing.
He frequently caught her with bloodied arms and legs. Trying to do stupid stunts that had her neck almost snapping. She once decided to see how tall of a building she could jump off of 'for science'.
Seb could not, for the life of him, decided whether she actually wanted to die or just didn't understand the concept of safety and healing.
He tried to keep eyes on her. Not always his, but anyone's. Max included.
He was immensely grateful for the Dutch. He pratically was glued to her side. He could tell she wasn't used to the amount of interaction with people, but the smile that creeper on her face at Max's dumb jokes told him everything he needed to know.
Max had ended up catching her once. His giddy state morphed into a panicked one. He had found her messing with one of the broken ferrari engines in his downtime. He had initially been curious until he realized the engine was hot from tools, and she was doing her best to press her hands against it.
He'd fussed over her for hours. He was completely lost as to how she wasn't showing any pain. Even as he lather her hand in burn ointments and wrapped them.
Max stuck even closer to her after that.
Seb had also learned that when she wanted to protect, she wouldn't hesitate to say what she felt. including to Jos Verstappen.
He felt scared when he stumbled upon Max behind her and Jos in front. The younger Dutch is trying to look stoic but failing and the older getting increasingly angry. Y/N in between them, her mouth moving steadly, the string of compliment for Max seemingly never ending.
Seb stepped in and pulled everyone apart. He tried to talk to her, but her attention was on Max. Completely set on making sure he was okay and dragging him off to somewhere safe.
~
It was strange for Max to have a friend like this. He'd not had many growing up. Yet here he was, feeling close to a girl he'd known for about five months.
It was now summer break. Seb, having seen the two interact, decided to invite the Dutch over for a weekend. His dad was last then happy about it but didn't want to look bad in front of a world champion, so he said yes.
Seb had never heard her talk so much. She was happy and he was glad to see her smile.
Hanna had to force them to sleep at some point. Something that the girl was less than fond of. Sleep was always difficult. Sometimes, Sébastien would stay in her room if he had a feeling she was going to wake up screaming.
He hadn't thought tonight would be one of those nights. Max was in the spare room, and she was in hers. This means that Max woke up to the thrashing first. Her wall right up against his.
He knew it might be an invasion of privacy, but when he heard sniffling, he didn't care. He threw himself out of the bed and made for the door.
He made sure to knock before opening the door. He waited for a possible answer but is only met with the sound of sobs now.
Then the screaming starts.
Seb is out of bed in an instant. Knowing how bad her night terrors got, he knew he needed to act fast.
He was shocked to find her door already open, and Max gently crouched over her. The screams had stopped, but she was still sobbing. Hugging Max like her life depended on it.
Seb smiled at the two and gave them a moment. He was releived she found someone who cared about her.
He knew he had to get her back to bed, though. He crept over to Max and placed a hand on his shoulder.
"I'll take it from here." Max looks up at the older man. That same awkwardness about being in a world champion's house now escalated. "Thank you, for staying with her." Seb added in a hope of reassuring the Dutch.
Max just nodded his head and slipped out from her bed. Seb takeong his place and laying her head on his lap.
She was still crying. Seb didn't push her to talk. he just let her cry while he ran his fingers through her hair.
"He came back." She croaks. "He got you and Max." Her visions sometimes found their way into her dreams. It made it hard to decipher what was real and what wasn't.
"It's okay, we're here now. And with the way Max is glued to you, I doubt he's ever going away."
They both chuckle a bit. Eventually, with the calming presence of Seb, sleep comes clawing back to her once more.
~
Max was elated. He was finally eighteen. He was now a full fledged adult and could do adult things with the team.
And yet, despite that, he chose to spend his birthday with her. The two sprawled out on the floor on his cramped hotel room, eating his favorite foods and watching his favorite movies.
He'd never felt more at peace than in this moment. The warm smiles shared between them, making him wonder how he'd gotten so lucky.
~
It had been a year. She was now sixteen. Her birthday is a mere reminder that she is a murder. She killed her mother.
She didn't tell anyone. Nobody needed to know because they would want to celebrate. This was not something to he celebrated, but loathed.
But of course, her plans were foiled. She forgot Seb and Hanna had all her information. Of course they would know.
Her and Seb were away for another weekend, but Hanna flew down to surprise her. They made her breakfast that morning and gave her a present. It was odd, and she kept looking at them skeptically. She'd never received a present of her own.
She opens the pretty paper gently. She'd feel bad if she ripped such a delicate thing. The inside reveals a pair of keys.
"We thought since you can get you license now that you would need a car." Squeals Hanna.
She cries. Her hand flying to cover her mouth. She doesn't understand. Isn't this the anniversary of her killing someone? Why were they being so nice to her?
The paddock wasn't any better. Of course, Seb would have told everyone. People were giving her things left and right.
It was to overwhelming.
She snuck out of the Ferrari paddock to find Max. His presence was needed right now. Maybe he'd understand.
She spotted Max outside his garage. Her body moved faster than her mind. When she gets close enough, Max immediately pulls her into him. He grabs her hand and drags her off to his room in the motor home.
"I got you something." He smiles cheekily. Handing over a small cardboard box to her.
She opened it to reveal a slick black screen. A phone? Why had he gotten her a phone? The overwhelming feeling takes hold, and she is once again sobbing at the gesture
Max is frantically trying to get a read on her. "Do you now like it? Did I do something wrong?"
She shakes her head no frantically. Trying to find her words again. "I just don't understand why everyone is being so nice to me."
Max is taken aback. He knew she was American and as far as he's aware, Americans give eachothers presents.
He thinks he might be left to wonder. His mind escapes to thoughts that make no sense. Only to be pulled back by her continued explanation.
"I killed my mom today sixteen years ago. They should be looking away in disgust, not giving me gifts."
Max is constantly learning new things about this girl. He understands the waiver in her voice. The sadness when she looks at Hanna with her baby.
Max is hugging her again. He dosen't normally like physical contact, but for them, it was a way of communicating without words.
He sets his chin on top of her head and runs his fingers along her spine. "That was not your fault. Whoever told you that is a liar and an asshole."
"It feels like most of the things I was told growing up were lies." Sobs of anger and frustration leak out of her eyes.
"Now we get to find the truths, and I'll be here to help you."
~
Time flies by. Max is nineteen, and she's seventeen.
Seb had gotten her a job test driving for Ferrari and Max had been moved into redbull.
He hadn't been expecting it. He made her pinch him a few times in case he was dreaming. He cried in relief when he knew he wasn't.
Sebastian had grown even fonder of Max. He had a soft spot for the redbull team even if he wasn't driving for them.
Y/N was now diving her time between Max and Seb. And if she wasn't with them, she was probably of trying new idiotic ideas.
The voice in the front of her head said it was for experimental reasons, she she was learning something and making herself stronger as her father made her do. The voice at the back of her head knew the real reason. She liked it. She was in control of it. She deserved it.
Regardless of her reasonings, the sting of the sharp metal she was working with felt annoyingly good as it sliced into her skin.
She felt unlucky that Max had walked in on it again. She was hoping to be cleaned up before he saw her. Someone must have given out her location.
Max sighs and seats himself next to her, inspecting her crimson covered arm.
She cast her gaze downward. Shame creeping over her cheeks.
Max just pulls some bandages out of his pockets and begins trying to slow the bleeding. "Don't be scared. I can feel your body shaking."
Though it wasn't fear she was shaking with, it was anticipation. A dull throb and flash of the possible future showed her that Max was going to hit his hand on the metal and slice his knuckles open.
Just before he can, her hand falls above his, her knuckles taking the damage instead. Max it startled and stunned.
"I always forget how good your reflexes are." He smiles. The warmth of his features causes her to relax. "Next time you decided to work on something I want to be here to watch."
His protectivness over her has seemingly grown over the past couple of years.
~
Her powers have been coming in handy these days. Seb has been helping her in whatever ways he can. Always making sure she isn't trying to suppress the energy flowing in her veins into a box.
He'd noticed that some things are easier then others. She dosen't heal very often because of the excruciating amount of energy and pain she has to put in.
Small cuts had been getting easier but anything past that was to much.
She knew she was never going to be strong enough to fulfill her desired purpose. But she didn't need to anymore her goals have shifted.
Getting to test drive and try new things for Ferrari felt like a dream. She was able to take her mind out of those innately dark places and clear her head for a moment.
She shocked a lot of people. They weren't expecting her to be any good. Now they were eating their words.
She glides easily around the corners. Her ability to predict helping her immensely. She could see what the car was going to do before it even happened. How was a child who had rarely driven a kart before, driving a formula 1 car like a professional?
Max looked on with pure delight cheering for her as she continued to set faster lap times.
Seb and Max were there waiting for her when she got out of the car. Enveloping both in a hug.
~
Max hadn't yet been able to determine his feelings for the girl. He'd had partners, but none of them ended well. Mostly because none of them were her.
Curse there stupid age gap. They had met when he had barely turned seventeen, but the public image he had to keep was what was stopping him.
Other drivers on the grid had started to catch on. Seb noticed the longing glances first and the way she was always smiling at her phone second. Lewis noticed how he was always talking to her, even if both of them were busy. Daniel said they are a package deal. You can't have one without the other.
The age issues was one side of the problem, though. The other was that she was absolutely clueless.
Seb had explained to Max that she hadn't been around people much. She had barely any experience with friendships, let alone a romantic relationship. So Max didn't push. He'd let things go on their own time.
~
Seb had dreaded this dat for since he found out how little knowledge of the world she has. He knew it was going to be awkward and he wishes Hanna were here to save him.
The workers of the paddock and the drivers specifically are known for their lack of filter. She didn't understand half of what was being said but didn't want to seem stupid, so she just laughed with everyone else.
Having the birds and bees talk with a seventeen year old was not on his bucket list.
To his credit, he did try. Then he ended up calling Hanna.
The poor kid went through the four stages of grief.
The interesting part was when Hanna was explaining romantic interests. He took notice of the way the girls eyes lit up when Hanna was describing how it feels to be in love with somone.
Her eyes started to panic for a moment. Like she needed to ground herself because she was going to lose it.
Seb reached out for her and placed his hand over hers. "Are you alright? I know this is a lot and probably uncomfortable. We can stop now if you need."
She shook her head. "No- it's just that - what if I feel those things now?"
"It's normal and completely okay." Seb offers her a gentle smile. "Do you want to talk about it?"
"Well, Hanna said that it makes your stomach feel funny and you smile more. I do those things with Max." She explains.
Seb nods his head in understanding. He already knew, but he wanted it to seem like he didn't. "I can't tell you what you're feeling. But, if you like those feelings you get with Max, I would say that you let them guide you."
It was the first time someone told her to follow her feelings and not her head.

leo messi's daughter | p. gavi
pablo gavi x messi!reader
a/n: yes im aware many people have done this but this plot is way too adorable for me to not write! also who else is gonna miss messi in psg? bc same 🙋🏼‍♀️
synopsis: gavi didn't really piece together that your dad is former barça player lionel messi... until he flew to paris to attend your birthday party.
content/warnings: awkwardness, very fluffy, leo being a menace and teasing pabs all the time. google translated spanish. lmk if i missed out anything
18. you didn't think you'd make it this far, let alone celebrate it in the city of love. you didn't think you'd start living in paris either. your initial plan was to live with your parents and little rat brothers until the day dad sends you off to your forever man. although, knowing your father, you probably won't even need to think about that day happening anytime soon.
ciro runs to you, hugging your legs since that's how tall he is. "feliz cumple, vieja!" [happy birthday, old lady!]
"who are you calling vieja?" you play along. "gracias, pollito." [thanks, little chicken.]
"is he coming, linda?" antonela approaches you, picking ciro up and propping him on her hip. "don't want him bailing out on you on your special day."
"nothing to worry about, mamá," you reassure. "trust." antonela smiles at you, before hearing a ruckus happening twenty feet from where you, mom and ciro stood.
"that must be your papá and brother playing football again," antonela groans. "i told them not to play ball out in that field." you offer to take ciro with you as you let your mother yell at your father and mateo.
thiago walks into the ballroom, heading straight for you and ciro. "is hermano pablo coming?" thiago asks you quietly, acknowledging how the ballroom echoes even with the lowest of voices.
"he told me he will be." you answer. your doubtful voice had pushed ciro to drape his arms over your shoulders.
"it's okay if he doesn't, hermana. nosotros estamos aquí para ti." ciro smiles, knowing you as well as both your parents can't resist to stay mad after seeing that smile. [we're here for you.]
"te quiero mucho, mi pollito." you bump heads with ciro before realising the presence of two figures at the front doors of the hall. [i love you so much, my little chicken.]
"pablo!" it was him. and pedri. he asked you if he could bring a plus-one.
"but i am your plus-one." you had told him.
"yeah, but it's your party." gavi answered.
"wait, what?"
"i dunno. can i bring pedri or not?"
"esta bien, lo que sea." you gave up. [fine, whatever.]
"te dije que vendría." gavi smiles, wrapping his arms around you and ciro. [told you i was coming.]
you introduce ciro to pablo, your youngest brother only waving shyly at him, only having met him twice. thiago was quick to throw his arms around gavi's waist. "ah, on the dot." you say, noticing your parents and mateo walk into the hall, all nice and ready for the party.
"what do you mean?" pablo questions.
"mamá, papá, mateo, this is my boyfriend, pablo. and pedri." you introduce. your hand coils itself around gavi's bicep.
"ah, sí. pedri, como estas?" he and pedri shake hands, exchanging niceties before he moves on to pablo. "y este es pablo de barcelona?" lionel asks, his head tilted to his right. [ah, yes. pedri, how are you doing? and this is pablo from barcelona?]
"sí," you say, seeing your friends start gathering by the front door of the hall. you choose to take ciro with you to greet your friends, so you walk away from pablo. stopping next to your dad, you tell him, "se bueno, papi. he's just pablo, and you're... el mejor del mundo." [yes. be nice, daddy. he's just pablo, and you're... the best in the world.]
leo only shoos you off to greet your friends before taking a deep breath. "pablo." he calls for your boyfriend, whose eyes have drifted to you as he watched you walk away from him.
"yes, sir?" gavi stands straighter than usual.
"como te va en barcelona? ¿xavi te trata bien?" leo asks, making conversation with him as antonela, thiago and mateo lead pedri away to the buffet spread. [how are you doing at barcelona? xavi treating you well?]
"i'm getting better, mr. messi." gavi nods his head slightly, hands together in front of him. he's smiling his best smile. he really wants to impress your father.
"deja eso. llámame leo," he waves gavi off, a smile — slowly but surely — appearing on his face. gavi can only chuckle at the acknowledgment. "sentémonos, el espectáculo está a punto de comenzar." [quit that. call me leo. let's get seated, show's about to start.]
once everyone is seated, your uncle, antonela's brother, begins the ceremony. you sat in between leo and pablo. act one; first daddy-daughter dance. "¿pueden la princesa y papá dar un paso al frente para el primer baile?" [can the princess and dad please step forward for the first dance?]
leo presents you his hand, nodding towards the dance floor. "ready, mija?"
you nod your head, taking dad's hand before trailing behind him to the centre of the hall. you instinctively pan your eyes to pablo, who sat next to your mother. he looks at you with great admiration, before putting both his thumbs up and grinning.
the music begins to play and you lean against your father, coiling your arms around his waist. "gracias por todo, papá." [thanks for everything, dad.]
"no," leo shakes his head. "gracias por todo, hermosa. has cambiado mi vida para siempre el día que naciste. dios me ha dado la hija mas grande que podría tener." [no, thank you for everything, beautiful. you have changed my life forever the day you were born. god has given me the greatest daughter i could possibly have.]
you couldn't stop your eyes from filling up with tears as you listen to your father's intimate speech. "gracias por cuidar a tus hermanos como lo haces. eres más que una mujer. eres un monstruo. un monstruo en la cancha, un muñeca fuera." [thank you for taking care of your brothers the way you do. you're more than just a woman. you're a monster. a monster on the pitch, a doll off.]
"me acabas de llamar monstruo?" you scoff on leo's shoulder. [did you just call me a monster?]
"quise decir eso amablemente!" leo laughs. [i meant that nicely!]
you thank your dad, and you dance in silence. you were grateful to have leo in your life. he was your rock, and he always will be. when the music finally ends, you allow your cheek to tear away from leo's shoulder. leo smiles at you as your uncle speaks again.
"pablo? tu turno." your uncle nods at pablo, who gets on his feet immediately as leo turns to make eye contact with him. [pablo? your turn.]
you wait for pablo on the dance floor. you let your head hang low as you wait, because pablo could make you blush by just walking over to you. "estas lista, querida?" boom, you're blushing. [you ready, darling?]
you nod, giving him your right hand and placing your left on his shoulder. the music begins playing and you allow pablo to sway you gently and slowly left and right. "thanks for coming."
"cualquier cosa para ti, amor," gavi chuckles. "me di cuenta de que tu papá te dio un pequeño discurso cuando bailaban. creo que quiero decirte algo a ti también." [anything for you, love. i noticed your dad kinda gave you a little speech when you guys danced. i think i wanna say something to you too.]
"cosa segura." you answer. [sure thing.]
before gavi could speak, your uncle comes running towards the both of you. "¿tio? ¿todo bien?" [uncle? everything okay?]
"todo está bien, cariño. es solo que... tu amigo pedri de ahí de allá dijo que le pasaras el micrófono a pablo," your tio explains, looking at pablo now. "dijo que tienes algo que decir." [all is good, darling. it's just that... your friend pedri over there said to hand pablo the mic. he said you've got something to say.]
you grit your teeth in guilt, and as you look up at pablo, he was annoyingly mouthing something to pedri. "toma el micro, pablo, no hay tiempo para esto." you whisper-yell. [take the mic, pablo, there is no time for this.]
he rashly took the mic from your tío, clearing his throat before beginning his speech. "uh, hola. espero que todos ustedes estén pasando un buen rato. soy pablo, el novio de y/n," he introduces himself. "vine desde barcelona y estoy aquí para celebrar la vida de nuestra querida niña hoy. mi amor, eres un regalo para todos nosotros. no puedo hablar por tu familia, pero has cambiado mi vida de una manera que las palabras no pueden describir." [hi, hope all of you are having a good time. i'm pablo, y/n's boyfriend. i came all the way from barcelona and i am here to celebrate the life of our dear girl today. my love, you are a gift to all of us. i can't speak for your family, but you have changed my life in a way that words cannot describe.]
"gracias por todo lo que ha hecho por mí, y eso incluye su apoyo para mí y mi carrera, incluso aquí en parís. te lo prometo, siento tu presencia en barcelona cada vez que juego. espero que este año te traiga toda la alegría que te mereces. Te amo, y veo mi futuro contigo. feliz cumpleaños." pablo finishes his speech off with the biggest smile. [thank you for everything you have done for me, and that includes your support for me and my career even all the way here in paris. i promise you, i feel your presence in barcelona every time i play. i hope this year brings you all the joy you deserve. i love you, and i see my future with you. happy birthday.]
he comes in closer to give you a hug, and as he did, he whispers in your ear. "estoy orgulloso de ti, messi. solo... ven a visitar barcelona más a menudo, okay?" [i'm proud of you, messi. just... come visit barcelona more often, okay?]
"i'll try." you smile.

*A FEW YEARS BACK*
Stench of flesh swirls in your nose, upsetting your stomach. Pained screams still ring in your ears. And slowly the more the fire eats away at their flesh, the more the infected and the former friends look alike—like nothing but a pile of bones.
It was the first time….the first time you’ve killed someone not turned into one of those monsters. An actual person. That realization doesn’t let you breathe or move; neither your limbs or your eyes.
“I told you to stay behind,” your dads voice breaks you away from the burning bodies.
You blink and look up at him as he turns to face you, and mutter in brittle voice, “daddy—”
“I told you to stay behind!” He bellows and strides over to you to grab you by your arms roughly.
You gasp at the roughness of his grip and the harshness of his voice. As you keep holding his gaze you see emotions he never directs at you; fierce anger that begins to scare you.
“Daddy,” you mutter and shake your head. “I…I was just trying to help you. I…I—”
“You disobeyed me,” he scolds you and grabs onto you tighter. “You could’ve gotten yourself hurt! You could’ve gotten yourself killed!”
You glance at the fire burning behind him, and begin to gape like a fish as you try to explain yourself to him through the shame and fear that begin to heighten at the realization of his words.
“I…” you mumble in a quivering voice. “I didn’t mean to, I just wanted to help,” you tell him again and meet his piercing glare. “I just wanted to help you, I saw them,” your voice breaks as tears form in your eyes. “I saw them, they were gonna hurt you! I just wanted to help you!”
“But you didn’t, did you?”
You gasp softly in disbelief, and feel your heart slowly sink at the sound of his sharp words.
“Joel?” You hear your uncle Tommy call.
You snap your watery gaze to him, and see him look down at the way your dad is grabbing onto you. He notices the anger, and slowly puts down his gun to look at your dad in disbelief. You proceed to pull away from your dad as his grip loosens and rush over to your uncle who welcomes you in a much more assuring and less angry way.
That’s when your dad realizes that his anger had gotten the best of him with you. Instead of trying to help you, trying to assure you, he snapped at you out of fear of his own.
“Y/n,” he calls out quietly. “I'm sorry.”
You step away from your uncle Tommy to face your dad, but still avert his gaze out of shame and slight fear. “It’s okay,” you mutter without truly thinking about it.
——
*NOW*
Sunlight dances on the flower patch down below, providing the fluttering butterflies with as much warmth as the sun can provide in the fall.
They’re peaceful insects, quiet and beautiful. Watching them just feed on the flower's nectar is calming in this cruel world, it’s one of the things that brings you peace.
Back in Jackson you grew a flower garden in the backyard of your house just to have them visit, to lay on the ground and read as they fluttered. It’s a silly thing, you oftentimes got picked on by the friends you live with, but what they don’t know is that in that meadow you grew in your backyard is where you see her; in those small purple flowers, in the sweet butterflies that feed off that nectar. That flower meadow is in memory of her, of the sister you had lost, Sarah.
Nevertheless, as you watch them flutter around, the silence that blankets you is broken by approaching footsteps. When you look back you see Sam approaching. You offer him a sweet smile and drag your feet down before you pat the empty spot beside you.
He doesn’t fret and joins your side on the ground. He looks below and then looks at you and takes off the string around his neck to write on the board he carries to communicate.
“What are you doing?” He writes.
Sam hands you the board, and you erase what he wrote to write back, “watching the butterflies.”
Sam leans over and reads the words, and smiles softly before signing with a word you do know now. “Why?”
You shrug and write on the board, “because it’s the closest thing I have to a tv, and I just enjoy watching them. It’s peaceful.”
Sam puts the board down, looks down at the flower patch below to watch the black butterflies mindlessly flutter around with you.
However, you quickly look away to grab his board and write their names that Sarah had told you once. “They’re called Black Swallowtail.” You tap Sam’s shoulder and point to what you wrote.
Sam's eyebrows knit together before he erases the board and signs again since he knows you know this one. “How do you know?”
You shift around and sign back, “S-a-r-a-h. My sister.”
Sam nods in comprehension and then looks down at his board to write, “do they make noise?”
You shake your head and write back, “they’re quiet, like you.”
Sam reads the words and takes them in before he erases it and asks, “do they hurt you? Like bees?”
You sign, “no,” and then erase what he wrote to write back, “they’re gentle. Ticklish.”
Sam reads it and looks at you with a questioning look, so you sign, “wait,” and proceed to slide down the small hill where the butterflies are gathered to pluck a flower from the ground. You then wait until a butterfly lands on it, and quickly shield it so it won’t escape.
Once the black butterfly with the yellow spots is secured, you look up at Sam and point your head to the side so he knows to come. He’s hesitant at first, but he trusts you, even if it’s only been a few weeks since you’ve joined their small group. Then again in small groups like these, when you’re trying to survive, it’s hard not bonding with the people you’re with.
It can be a good and bad thing because some people are big assholes.
Regardless, Sam slides down like you had and steps on his tiptoes to watch the butterfly flutter in your cupped hands.
You then slowly turn and crouch down to be at Sam’s level. You proceed to slowly move the shielded flower towards Sam, and very carefully pull your hand away from the flower. The butterfly stays on the flower like you wanted, so you move your finger towards it and let it crawl on your finger.
Once its little feet begin to tickle your flesh, Sam nervously grins, but seems to be more in awe. So before it can fly away you move your finger towards Sam’s nose, and gently guide the butterfly on his nose, making him immediately stiffen as he nervously laughs.
“See,” you sign. “All okay.”
The butterfly notices that there’s nothing where it’s perched and flutters off Sam’s nose quickly, and Sam only grins brighter. He then albeit quickly proceeds to grab his board to write down, “you were right. It tickles.”
You sign, “I told you.” You shoot him a cocky smile and point your head up the hill.
Sam looks up the hill and quickly begins to sign. You follow his line of gaze and see Henry. He had snuck up on you.
“Y/N…my nose,” that’s all you got from Sam signing to Henry. But hey! You’re learning, it’s been a few weeks and you’ve learned some stuff, that’s what counts.
“Did she?” Henry asks out loud and signs at the same time.
Sam nods and runs up the hill to reach his brother.
You then understand Henry’s question. “Did it hurt?”
Sam shakes his head and signs what you imagine is, “tickles.”
Henry hums and looks over at you to offer you a small smile before he signs and says. “Come on, let’s get going, dinner time.”
You beam at him and run up the hill, “great!” You sign in response. “I’m hungry.”
Since there’s nothing to fear at the moment Sam runs back to where everyone is gathered around, leaving Henry and you behind.
“So what?” Henry interjects. “Was it like, teaching moment with y/n?” He teases.
You feign a laugh. “Haha. And yes, actually. Black Swallowtail, that’s what those butterflies are called, and he knows that now. Thanks to yours truly.” You point at your chest.
Henry scoffs in amusement, bringing silence after, tense silence unlike before because now there’s unspoken feelings. At least from him because you know what you feel, you’re very in tune with your feelings, he doesn't seem to quite grasp what he feels towards you. Or at least that’s what Jace says.
So it seems you have to take matters into your own hands.
“What do you say after dinner, we wait for Sam to go to bed, and stay out to watch the stars,” you suggest with a racing heart. “Just the two of us.”
Henry falters in his pace, but turns his head to look at you. He seems quite surprised, but he doesn’t take long to answer, and stays nonchalant. “Yeah, let’s do it.”
You shoot him a smile. “Cool. I’ll bring my music.”
“I’d say I’d bring the drinks, but well we only have water,” he says with a small smirk.
You laugh softly. “That’s fine. I'm cool with that.”
Henry holds your gaze and his lips turn to a soft smile. You mirror his gesture and begin to feel your cheeks burn. Luckily he can't see that.
“I’ve never done this,” Henry breaks the sweet tension. “Date.”
Oh so he is in tune with his feelings.
“Oh, is this a date?” You mess with him.
Henry goes serious and shakes his head, making you quickly grin and assure him before he can take it back. “I’m messing with you, and don’t worry, going on a date is like hanging out. There’s just different feelings out in the open…well…that’s what it feels like anyway. In my 24 years of living I’ve only been on one date, and that guy was,” you let out a deep annoyed sigh. “He was different.”
Henry swallows thickly and hesitantly probes. “Different how?”
“He was a jerk. He only asked me on a date for some kind of game with his friends,” you share. “So if you’re not playing that then you’ll be okay.”
Henry shakes his head. “No, no, definitely not.”
“Cool.” You grin softly.
——
Night had taken over quickly, Sam went to sleep early due to his brother's behest, and now you’re navigating down the green meadow trying to find a spot somewhat secluded from camp.
“What happened to all the infected around here?” You ask Henry. “I haven’t seen many at all.”
Henry drops his gaze and sighs. “When Fedra was running Kansas City, they managed to drive them to underground tunnels.”
You hum and can’t decide if that’s smart or stupid. Both?
“You’ve been out there, what's the craziest infected you’ve seen?” Henry chooses to bounce off your question.
You scoff softly and answer right away. “Well there’s these fucking things out there, they have the fungus growing out of them, they can still see and hear, but they have that strength clickers do, and they like, stalk you. They’re fucking quiet and creepy as hell. It’s crazy as shit, terrifying, I still have nightmares.”
“You killed them?”
You begin to smirk smugly and nod as you hold his gaze. “Three. I’ve killed clickers too.”
Henry hums and then retorts, “show off.”
You laugh and shrug. “You asked.”
Henry lets out a small huff and then swallows back nervously.
It’s honestly very cute. You can tell that this is actually his first time being intimate with a girl.
“Here,” you point out and suddenly drop to the floor.
Henry had gotten a step ahead so he steps back and carefully sits by you.
Once he’s seated you pull out your Walkman and earphones to put them down between you, whilst Henry pulls out the bottle of water and puts it down before pulling out his lighter and igniting a small flame.
“How romantic,” you say with a small grin.
“Working with what we got,” he rubuts, and puts the flame out since it's a hassle having his lighter on the entire time. Instead he proceeds to probe nervously. “Okay….What now?”
You scoff softly and hand him a earphone bud while you put yours on, and put on some music at a low volume.
“I don’t have a lot of music options,” you share as he puts on the bud. “The rest is at home so, for now we’ll listen to…” you pick up your Walkman and check what you have inside. “Britney Spears,” you read outloud. “One of my favorite artists.”
“And,” Henry rolls out and carefully moves his hand over yours to slowly interlace his fingers with yours.
You grin and shoot him a smile. “Yes,” you assure him softly. “Good….Now though! I’m curious, are you lying to me about dating other people?” You squint your gaze.
Henry shakes his head. “No, I'm not. But I’m not clueless either, you know.”
You hum, and then rest your head on his shoulder.
He feels stiff for a few seconds, but he slowly relaxes and lets his shoulders fall.
“Now, we talk, like normal,” you let him know and look up to watch the twinkling stars overhead.
“Okay,” Henry whispers. “What’s….what’s your favorite color?”
“Purple,” you share immediately. “But not dark or violet, soft, like a lilac. You?” You ask and lift your eyes to look at him.
Henry looks down and meets your gaze as best as he can. “Red,” he says. “Like just red.”
“Boo,” you laugh. “Think harder, that’s a basic ass answer. I know that’s not it.”
Henry chuckles and draws in a deep breath as he thinks. “Okay,” he breathes out. “Blue…light blue, like the sky.”
You smile sweetly and nudge him gently. “See, I knew it.”
“Okay, now,” Henry proceeds. “I see you have many tattoos, but I’m curious about the one on your back,” he investigates. “The butterfly wings, do they have a meaning?”
Your smile slowly fades, and you have to hold back emotions that threaten to come out. “Yes.” You nod slowly. “My sister. She liked butterflies, I got it because of her so it’s like having her with me.” You glance at your hands and fiddle with his hand. “Do you have any tattoos?”
Henry shakes his head. “No, I don’t think I’m cool enough to get one.”
“You don’t need to be,” you assure him. “You can get one simply because you want one. That’s why I have the ones on my left arm, ‘Kay? And I think you’re cool. Sam thinks you’re cool.”
Henry turns his head and rests his chin on the top of your head. “You’re about the only ones then,” he mumbles. “No one else does.”
You squeeze his hand tighter and whisper, “don’t bother yourself by what others think, that shit, it’s poison. You live like that, you’ll only look at the world black and white.”
Henry lets silence linger for a moment before he asks, “how is it that you always seem to know what to say?”
You scoff. “Half of the time I make shit up.” You smile faintly. “Other times I repeat what I’ve been told by my uncle Tommy, or my mama Maria; she’s truly wise.”
“She your real mom?” He asks.
You shake your head. “No,” you share. “My mom died a long time ago, before all this shit happened…uh, complications after she had me. So, no Maria is my uncle's wife, my aunt. But I’ve known her for a long time now.” You sigh. “After we left Boston, she taught me a lot, like, about being a woman, protection, and the world. She took care of me like I imagine a mom would…” you smile softly at the sky and notice the dark cloud that begins to pass by. Yet you think nothing of the thick cloud and just admire the shining stars not covered by the thickness of the clouds, and stare at them with longing as if Maria’s presence was there.
“She loved me like one would. She’s the only mom I’ve known, so I call her that. Hopefully, you meet her soon. You’ll like her, she can be tough, but she’s good.”
“That’s good,” Henry says. “My mom tried her best, but it got hard. She focused more on keeping me alive soon after the outbreak happened.”
You blink and look away from the sky as his comment reminds you of someone else—it doesn’t sadden you anymore though, not as it once did.
“Yeah, my dad did that too,” you share your truth. “Sometimes he didn’t even feel like my dad….” You pause and want to add more, but in order to not sour the night and bring down the mood, you just leave that as it is and change the topic. “Okay, moving on please so we don’t bring this down. What would have been your dream job in the real world, pre outbreak?”
“Damn,” Henry mumbles. “I don’t know, but I do know that I would have wanted to ride a motorcycle around the country. You know those Harley’s?”
You hum in agreement.
“Well, I would have loved to have one of those and just ride.”
“You still can!” You exclaim excitedly. “I mean I don’t know about a country tour, but you can still have one.”
“Man,” he clicks his tongue. “I hope so. That would be a dream come true….now you, let me guess…you would have wanted to be an actress?”
You grin and gasp softly before you pull away to face him. “Yes!” You agree. “How did you know?”
Henry smirks. “Besides those stories you literally act out at night, you have the face for it.”
You smile wider and try to brush him off. “Are you sweet talkin’ me, Henry?”
He scoffs and shrugs smugly. “Maybe.”
You sit up and shoot him a smile as you slowly stretch your hands out. “I would’ve been a star, I know it.” You lean down close to him, and unknowingly make him nervously catch his breath as you hover him. “You would have seen me on your tv Henry Burrell.” You smirk.
Henry lets out a shaky breath, but composes himself and musters a soft smile, and knows how to sweet talk you. “I don’t doubt it.”
Your smile softens, and you slowly tilt your head to the side to glance at his plump lips before meeting his gaze again.
Many people have told you the same thing, they assure you that you would have been something if the outbreak hadn’t happened. But most of those comments are just that, comments, they’re meaningless. Coming from Henry though, hearing him say it makes you completely confident about a future you could never have. He makes you giddy about it, confident and flustered.
Maybe you’re a hopeless romantic, it’s been said, but you don’t have the luxury of time.
He knows that, he knows that holding back brings nothing good but regret so before you can move away, he leans forward and presses a kiss on your lips.
Albeit before you can savor the taste of his lips he pulls back. “I’m sorry,” he mutters out.
You shoot him a sweet grin before you lean down and crash your lips against his to reassure him that it’s fine, that he had nothing to apologize for. You pull him in and he’s caught off guard, he seems shocked a bit, but he doesn’t pull away, he sits up instead.
Henry’s careful, gentle with his kiss. You’re the one that guides him, that leads him on, but you’re not rough, you savor the sweet taste and make sure to mentally jot down every spark that you feel bounce out, every flutter your heart does. You memorize the sweet bliss that fills you.
When you eventually pull away you remain close, you don’t speak, you bask in the silence for a moment. He watches you with a sweet smile and a soft gaze, the softest gaze that you’ve noticed anyone look at you. So much so that it actually confuses you.
“What?” You probe.
Henry shakes his head.
You hum and provide silence.
Alas, it’s in that same silence that follows that lets you begin to feel droplets of water fall on your head.
When you both look up you see a thick, and much darker cloud covering the sky above. And soon those few drops turn to pouring rain.
“Damn,” Henry mutters under his breath.
You both look down and meet each other's gaze. And as you do, you both burst into laughter at the inconvenience of the pouring rain, and at the fact that you were so distracted with one another that you didn’t notice that it loomed so close. Overall you just laugh at the simplicity that was the rain interrupting your date.
“Come on,” you urge him and grab his hand. “The tree house is empty right now, let’s go up there.”
Henry grabs the bottle of water, and you grab your Walkman before you pull him up, and guide him there in a run.
However, it’s once you’re in that treehouse, as you go back to kissing one another that you catch the sound of distant rumbling. You wouldn't have cared about it, but the rumbling doesn’t come from the sky, so you pull away from Henry and crawl to the window, spotting there in the treeline multiple bright lights, headlights.
“Fuck,” Henry mutters sharply. “Fuck!”
That bliss you once felt is now quickly replaced with racing fear.
“It’s Kathleen,” Henry reveals the name of the rebel group that he said took down FEDRA, the group after him and the others he’s with.
“Go,” he whispers at you as he turns to face you with panic. “Leave!” He yells.
You shake your head without hesitance. “No,” you mumble. “No. I’m staying with you. Come on.” You shove your earphones in your pocket, and hook your walkman on the beltline of your pants before you quickly rush out of the treehouse, leaving Henry in slight disbelief that you didn’t leave now that your leg is healed. You should've, he thought, yet he's glad you didn’t.
——
*A DAY LATER*
“Kansas City belongs to the people!”
Flares light the sky. Chanting, yells, and gunshots fills the air carelessly as if the entire fucking world was liberated of danger and oppression; it’s only a city, and there’s still infected that lurk outside, stragglers that can still cause damage.
“Collaborators, surrender now, and you will receive a fair trial.”
Bullshit…
“We have control of the QZ and the open city. Anyone caught hiding will face charges of counter-revolutionary activities. Kansas City belongs to the people….” The announcer trails off and the current street you’re hiding on is silent again. Finally.
“Look at me, not at that,” you hear Henry whisper. And when you look over you see him communicating with Sam now that this was your next opening to run. “We’re almost there. To more blocks…” he turns and meets your gaze too. “Two more blocks,” he repeats so you can hear.
You nod in comprehension, and see him look back at Sam.
“Stay with me,” Henry continues to whisper softly for you as he signs for Sam. “Y/N, will be behind us.”
The boy's gleaming eyes drift to you to ask for reassurance once more, just like he’s asked all day since you’ve been running.
And it’s true, you were scared yourself, but for him you act confident, to see him at least lose a flicker of fear. “We’ll be okay.” You sign, and smile through your exhaustion. “I’m a wicked shot,” you whisper and let Henry sign that.
Sam looks back at you and sighs before nodding in comprehension.
“Ready?” Henry asks you.
You keep on your brave and confident face and nod. That lets Henry grab Sam’s hand once again to then bolt on ahead. You follow right behind their tail, with a hand on your rifle in case there’s suddenly a surprise.
Luckily though, you make it to the building some old man had told Henry about without any surprises. It was supposedly clear from any of the rebels too, so once that door closed and that lock clicked, and your flashlights lit the room, you were able to let your hand fall from your rifle.
“We’re going up,” Henry signs and whispers.
Sam nods. And you don’t need to say anything for Henry to know you understand, so he’s able to tell Sam to turn on his flash before they both slowly go ahead and you follow to watch their back.
Once you make it to the top, once Henry opens the door and reveals some storage room that old man doesn’t seem to be here.
Or at least that’s what you thought, because some old man suddenly jumps out from behind an old cabinet with his flash and gun pointed at the three of you, causing Henry to stop Sam and you in your tracks to point his gun right back at the man. Whilst you pull out your rifle and outgun the man.
However, given by the sound of their sighs, and the fact that they’re lowering their guns, this is the man Henry saw.
“It’s okay, Y/N,” Henry says and looks back at you. “It’s okay, you can put the gun down.”
You glance at the old man with his gun lowered and hesitate for a second before you hang the rifle back around your shoulder.
“It’s up here,” the old man says and turns to pull down some hatch. “Climb up on this,” he says and taps the cabinet and some box.
You’re sort of unsure to climb up since it looks so eerie up there, but Henry doesn’t second guess the man and hands you the green bag of supplies so he can climb up first. He then helps Sam up without hesitation, so it must be safe…
“Go on, I can help with the bag,” the old man tells you, but you still can't be assured of your safety nor do you trust him like Henry does, so you clutch onto the bag and offer him a faint tightlipped smile as you shake your head.
“It’s alright,” you mutter and then climb up on the cabinet and box. “I got it.” You pull off the strap and hand the bag to Henry first before you grab only the edge and pull yourself up.
“You got it?” Henry asks you as he turns away from the bag he sat down to try and help you.
Yet you manage to get in all by yourself just fine. “Yeah,” you assure him. “I got it.”
Henry puts his hand on your back as you stand up regardless, and helps you to your feet, letting the old man come in last without help.
“You sure they don’t know about this?” Henry asks the old man, while you proceed to set your backpack down to pull off that damned weight. However, you keep your rifle on you, you just pull it off your shoulder to raise it and point your scoop at the gaps that are on the cardboards covering the windows, just to make sure that the street is clear.
“I got it from a FEDRA officer,” the old man says as he turns on the lamp hanging from a pillar. “Patient.”
You lower the gun and walk to the window Sam is sitting under to check through that one too.
“…owed me a favor,” the man continues, whilst you hear Henry put down the cans of food you had managed to throw in. “He said he found it himself, never told anyone about it.”
“What if they got to him?” Henry cuts in, making your curiosity grow as well. So you lower the gun and look over at both men to wait for the answer.
“They already did,” the old man deadpans . “He won’t be talking.”
It’s good to hear, but still not so assuring. Albeit you don't show your fear, not with Sam right by you, he’s already terrified, he looks even more so up here. So instead you put your gun down and tap his shoe with yours to try and assure him with a small smile, and a sign.
“Clear. We’ll be okay.”
Sam swallows thickly and slowly lowers his shoulders, but doesn’t completely untense.
“Hey,” you sign and then tap your firefly pendant.
Sam slowly reaches for the one you gave him and holds it in his hand tightly.
“Clear outside?” He signs his questions.
You nod, and exhale out deeply to release some stress so he can mirror your actions. And this time instead of remaining tense, Sam unzips his jacket to pull out his board.
You watch him for a second longer and notice he keeps grabbing the pendant as he begins to draw.
“Y/N?” Henry calls your name and draws your attention back to them. “How are you on bullets?”
You walk towards the pair and hum before giving your answer. “3 on my rifle, and 4 on my pistol. Not enough, but good nonetheless.”
Henry sighs and nods. “Good.”
“Mines empty,” the man says and puts his gun away.
“Yeah, so is mine,” Henry reveals his status.
“We weren’t shooting our way outta this anyway,” the man adds hopelessly.
“No,” Henry interjects. “So we’ll sneak our way out.”
You rest your hand on your hip and watch him count the cans you have.
“How?” The man probes.
“Tunnels,” Henry shares.
“Tunnels? Why go to the trouble? You can kill yourself right here.” The man comments.
You scoff and snap back. “It’s either that or we die up here. I won’t let that happen, we won’t. Infected aren’t smart, we will find a way out.”
The man glances at you and keeps quiet.
“Twenty two cans, and six pounds of jerky for the four of us,” Henry shares now that he’s done counting. “If we stick to the minimum. I think we can make it 11 days? So that’s how long we have to figure it out.”
Not good, but it’s enough.
“Is he scared?” The man refers to Sam still in the corner drawing and holding the pendant.
“Yeah,” Henry says. “Well, he’s seen a lot. Nothin’ I can do about that now.”
First, you all witness some of the people you were with get shot. Then you get separated from the group whilst you were running from those after you. And lastly the horror the city holds. Who wouldn't be scared?
“He’s scared because you’re scared,” the old man says correctly. That makes Henry stop what he’s doing to look at his brother for a moment before he walks over to him.
You let him have his time with Sam, and instead finally take a moment to finally sit after running all damn day.
“How good are you with that rifle?” The man asks you.
You glance down at the cans of food and shrug. “My uncle taught me, he was in the military before the outbreak, so I like to say I’m a good shot.”
The man slowly sits down too, and when you glance at him you see him nodding in comprehension.
“That’s good,” he whispers. “We’ll probably need that.”
You hum and look back at Henry and Sam, and catch them both drawing on the walls now.
It’s a simple thing just to pass the time, to make Sam happy and fully relaxed. Besides, seeing him like that makes Henry happy and relaxed. And seeing that they can both find a bit of happiness in this wooden cage, that Henry isn’t strict and just focuses on teaching Sam how to survive, makes you smile and watch him with admiration.
It’s good that he’s a brother and a father to Sam, he needs that….
You grin softly.
Henry seems to feel your stare as you get lost watching them and looks back, catching your gaze.
You offer him a small smile and look away right after, even if that won’t erase the fact that he had caught you staring at him. He also then proceeds to join you on the floor nonetheless, and taps your leg with his foot. “How’s your leg?” He asks.
You drag your feet up against your chest. “Fine,” you assure him and slide your eyes back at him. “It doesn’t hurt anymore thank god. There’s just a scar left.” You hug your knees and rest your chin on your knee caps. “How are you feeling, Henry?”
Henry sighs. “Besides tired….” He hesitates and averts his gaze. “Guilty.”
You slowly furrow your eyebrows in confusion and probe. “Why?”
Henry lets out a deep sigh and drifts his eyes to you. “I dragged you into this, into my problem. You could’ve been on your way home now.”
You lift your head off your chin and shake it as you reach for his hand in his pocket to hold it in yours. “No,” you argue and lean in close to him. “No, I choose to follow you. I told you I’m sticking with you and Sam. We’re going home together.”
Henry licks his lips and shakes his head. “You don’t know what I’ve done, y/n,” he rebuttals. “I’m not a good guy.”
“And you think I’m a good person?” You spat. “I know what you did, Jace told me…”
Henry scoffs at the mention of his friend's big mouth, but let’s you continue.
“You saved your brother. He was sick and you saved him, you—”
“And I got a good man killed in the process, y/n,” he cuts you off sharply since you don’t want to blame him like he blames himself. “That makes me a bad guy. I am a bad guy. And now I have you here, hiding, surviving off scraps. Can't you see?”
You blink, and let out a shaky breath before you slide your legs down to turn around and sit on your knees to face him. “Henry, listen to me,” you say softly and pull his hand out to cup it with both hands.
“I’ve seen bad people, I’ve looked into the eyes of bad people. I’ve been a bad person, a truly bad person. So I know. And Henry,” you say softly. “When I look at you, I don’t even see a flicker of that….” Your voice breaks. “You have got a good heart, I can tell, I have sense for that stuff.” You laugh softly. “You’re good, Henry. Sam sees that, he knows that. I know that.”
Henry lets out a deep shaky sigh, and drops his gleaming gaze. He keeps his hand in yours though, and then lifts his other hand to cup yours.
“You’re not a bad person either, you know that,” he tells you softly and lifts his gaze to meet yours. “You’re a survivor. A real one.” He lets your hand go and instead lifts it to let it hover your cheek. As if he’s hesitant about grabbing your face out of fear that he was stepping out his boundaries.
“A bad person wouldn’t be stuck here,” he continues. “A bad person wouldn't have helped. A bad person wouldn’t be as…optimistic as you are,” he grins softly, making your smile wobble. “Even after getting stabbed. I could say a hundred more things already to prove you wrong and I’ve only known you a short while. Sam,” he points back to the boy busying coloring. “Could say a thousand more.”
You scoff softly and lean your cheek against his hand, making him stiffen for a second before he begins to very slowly caress your cheek.
“Is that alright?” He asks and leans in closer to read you too. “It’s not….too fast?”
You shake your head. “No,” you assure him. “It’s fine. I like it.”
Henry's smile widens and he proceeds to let his gaze linger on you for a moment longer before he mutters. “Thank you.”
You drop your gaze and smile at the ground. “This was supposed to be about you,” you mutter.
“It’s okay,” he says with a hint of smugness. “I like talking about you.”
You giggle and shake your head.
——
*10 DAYS LATER*
The room is quiet, deafening so. Nothing compared to the loud nightmares haunting you.
The air is chilly, and your clothes are cold. As your eyes focus on the painted room you see it’s basked by darkness; no lamp—well there is light, but it’s a dim and cold light, and it comes in from the small holes on the cardboards.
Did you really not sleep at all? It doesn’t feel that way, but it’s dark so probably not.
You sit up and stretch out your arms, feeling them slightly sore from sleeping on the hard ground. You rub your face to get rid of all the crap on your face as best as you can with just the heels of your palms since you don’t have water to splash on your face.
When you put your arms down, and look back you catch Henry’s stare, and a faint smile he musters.
“Hey,” he whispers.
You turn yourself around to face him, and notice Sam sleeping on his other side.
“How you feeling?” Henry asks.
You let out a long breath through your nose whilst you shrug. “Sore,” you croak. “I miss my bed.”
Henry scoffs softly and leans forward to pick up a can of food. “Here,” he says and hands you the can of food. “We saved you some.”
You hesitantly grab it and blink in confusion. “You guys ate?” You ask with your eyebrows knitted together. “Again?”
Henry rests arm back on his knee and his smile turns to a smirk. “I…uh, let you sleep in for the day.”
An entire day?
You put the can down and lose your confusion to stare at him with annoyance and disbelief. “We have…” you pause and shake your head. “We have a schedule, Henry,” you argue. “I sleep at night and you sleep in the morning. That’s not fair.”
Henry looks down and shrugs softly. “It is because I don’t care, it doesn’t bother me. Besides, you seemed at peace so Sam and I let you sleep in.”
The thought behind it fills you with joy, and it makes your heart flutter, but it’s still…it’s still not fair for him.
“What about the old man?” You quip since he’s not here anymore.
Henry slowly lifts his eyes and his smile fades. “He hasn’t come back,” he shares. “He probably…got caught.”
You blink and lose your attitude as you’re now filled with slight guilt.
“That means that can is the last bit of food we have,” Henry continues and points to said object by you. “Until we leave.”
You look at the can of food and push it to him. “Leave it for Sam.” You tell him.
Henry quickly pushes it back to you and counters you. “No, we ate already. You haven’t since yesterday. You need it.”
Your stomach grumbles at the reminder of that fact, and you hesitantly take the can without any more fuss.
“We’re on our own now,” Henry whispers. “Which means…you can go y/n. I don’t want to hold you back, you have family waiting for you back in Wyoming, I want you to see them. Being here with us…I can’t guarantee you will.”
You snap your gaze up to him and shoot him a pointed glare. “Why do you keep saying that to me, huh?” You snap. “Like if I’m actually gonna take your word and just leave you guys behind.” You put the can of food to the side and lean into him.
Henry rolls his eyes down and sighs deeply at your stubbornness.
“Henry,” you insist and snatch his hand off his knee to hold it in yours. “It’s not just me anymore, it’s us. We’re going to Wyoming together, okay? We’re going to Jackson. We’re gonna go home, we’re gonna sleep on a bed.” You muster a small smile. “You’re gonna meet pretty girls….”
“Pft.” He breathes out and shakes his head with a small smile.
“We’re gonna eat a delicious sandwich from the bar, you’re gonna meet my uncle, and my momma. Sam is going to school, have friends. We’re going home.” You assure him sweetly.
Henry blinks, and meets your eyes with a soft gaze and a sweet smile that you like to see on him. He proceeds to cup your cheek and pull you in closer to him.
“Only girl I need is you,” he sweet talks you.
You scoff and roll your eyes, making him chuckle quietly so as to not wake up Sam, before he pulls you in for a deep kiss that you both linger in. That you both want to take further, but restrain yourselves and pull away and keep your foreheads against each other.
“Thank you,” he whispers against your lips. He never stops telling you that.
Albeit now you don’t tell him to take it back like before, you let him say it and relish in the silence before you press a kiss against his lips and smile. “Go to sleep,” you tell him. “I’ll keep watch here.”
Henry hums and pulls back to pick up the can of food. “I sleep, you eat.”
You scoff and nod slowly as you take the can from his hand.
Before you eat though, you go down and go to the bathroom, Henry goes down with you to keep watch. And once you get back upstairs, Henry is quick to fall asleep, letting you eat and watch him and Sam in the silence of the room that was only accompanied by the sound of their soft snores.
Or at least it was quiet for a while until Sam woke up.
“You okay?” You sign your question.
Sam yawns and nods. “Yes,” he answers. “I just had a bad dream.”
You put the empty can down and offer him a sweet smile. “Want to talk about it?” You ask him.
Henry hesitates before he shakes his head. “It wasn’t bad,” he signs back to assure you. “I'll be okay.”
You smile wider and nod. “Good,” you sign. “Now. Back to sleep then.”
Sam puts his finger up and turns around to look for something real quick. You drag your leg up, and rest your chin on your knee as you wait for him.
Once he turns back around he grins as he lifts a piece of cardboard that has three people drawn on it.
“I drew this,” he signs. “Today while you slept.”
You scoff and point your head to the drawing. “Tell me about it then.” You press him.
Sam smirks proudly and points to a small masked hero with a cape on it. “Me,” he signs and then drags his finger to another masked hero, this one albeit is taller than he was. “Henry,” he shares and then drags his finger to the last person; one with butterfly wings, eyes like yours, and half of the face covered by a black mask. “You,” he reveals, and smiles shyly.
You beam at him and probe with obvious excitement. “Really? Wow. What are my powers?”
Sam puts the drawing down and doesn’t fret explain what you ask for. “Flight because you have butterfly wings drawn on your back. And you can make shields like The Invisible Woman, because you are brave…”
Your smile softens at his explanation and you’re actually very touched by how much thought he put into it.
“And super strength because you are strong.”
You sigh softly and grab at your chest. “I love it so much” you sign back quickly. “Thank you. Thank you.”
Sam's smile turns timid, and he drops his head to hide his fluster.
As much as you do enjoy his company, and feel touched by his drawing, you do want him to sleep for a little while longer.
However, before you can tell him he snaps his head up and beats you to signing. “Will you tell me a story?” He asks.
You let out a deep exhale and first put a but. “And then you will sleep.” You insist.
Sam nods quickly.
“Okay,” you give in. “Let’s do it.”
——
*THE NEXT DAY*
As Henry wakes Sam up, you pack up what you can and what you have left, which isn’t a lot. A lot of Sam's crayons are wasted since he's been giving the blank attic some well deserved color. The food is gone so the green bag is mostly empty. And everything else you have goes in your own packs, so maybe you should be at least thankful that you don’t have to carry so much weight at the moment.
“Y/N,” Henry calls out.
You hum and look back at him with a questioning look.
“Can you pass me the red paint?”
You glance at Sam and notice that he has his eyes closed. You want to ask about it, but you just choose to wait and hand Henry what he asked for first.
“Watch,” Henry says to you and wraps cloth around his fingers to dip that in the red paint a bit before he leans towards Sam, and paints a thick red stripe over his eyes that makes it look like he has a mask on. Like the ones he paints on his hero’s.
“Wow,” you sign when he opens his eyes. “You look very cool.”
Sam smiles, and Henry pulls out his knife to let Sam see his reflection on the metal.
And once he does he grins and nods in appreciation. “Now,” Sam signs to you as Henry puts his knife away. “I have my mask on, like you have your wings.”
You grin and nod. “Yes!” You sign and lift your eyebrows to show your excitement, whilst you pick up your backpack off the ground since all you needed was for him to wake up so you could leave. “Exactly! We are cool now.”
Henry turns back around and helps Sam put on his jacket, while you grab his backpack off the ground.
“Now,” Sam tells you after he has his jacket on and his brother is turned away grabbing his own things. “Henry needs something too.” He stands up to his feet, and you hand him his backpack.
“We will have to think about what to give him,” you tell Sam as you strap your rifle on your shoulder.
Sam nods in agreement and drifts his eyes to Henry slowly trying to slowly open the door.
After making sure that the ghost is clear, you all proceed to climb out, and carefully walk down the stairs to reach the door that you had once walked through 11 days ago.
However, before you can walk out, even if Henry and you learned the patterns of the group, he puts a table against the door to climb on it and peek through the window over the door to check if the ghost is clear outside.
For inside you can hear nothing echoing in the distance; no shouts, running engines or distant gunshots, but you still wait cautiously, and watch Henry turn away from the window first before you can act.
“It’s okay,” Henry signs to Sam and you as he jumps down.
Just like you assumed.
However, even if Sam got the okay, he worries and questions his brother. “You don’t hear anything?”
Henry shakes his head and reaches over to push the table away. Albeit just as you take a step over to help him, tires suddenly screech, causing Henry to stop, and for you to do the same but grab Sam’s shoulder to hold him still.
Sam then turns to question what had made Henry and you stop, but tires screech again and a crash follows to sound, causing you to jump and cover your ears. Henry, though, grabs Sam, and your arm to pull you both down with him.
Sam signs something to both Henry and you, but you keep your eyes focused on the door as gunshots begin to go off. You remain frozen out of fear in the same spot Henry had pulled you down to, and don’t react or stand up until Henry gets back up on the table to peek through the window.
“Henry,” you call out and sign so Sam understands what you’re saying. “Stay down.”
“Let me just check,” he rebuttals.
You grab Sam’s hand and pull him with you as you take a step closer to Henry.
Another gunshot proceeds to go off though, making Henry duck, and Sam to tighten his hold around your hand as he watches his brother's reaction. And just as Henry slowly lifts his head again, you turn to face Sam.
“We will be okay, it sounds to be happening across the street,” you let Sam know. “Gunshots, but not a lot. Maybe a fight.”
Another gunshot goes off, and your shoulders jump, but you try to remain collected in front of Sam.
“Another gunshot?” Sam asks since he sees your reactions.
You nod and let him know, “Just one.” You turn to ask Henry what’s going on, but he suddenly ducks for a few seconds before he lifts back up one more time. After a few seconds he finally decides to jump back down as it goes quiet.
“What's going on now?” Sam asks Henry before you can.
Henry glances at you with a frown and shares his slight fear, before returning his gaze to his brother and looking nonchalant so Sam won’t worry as much.
“New plan,” Henry shares with the both of you. “We follow this man that just killed one of the rebels.” He explains making you feel shocked over that fact. “I know the streets, and even if we have you, y/n, we can possibly work together with this man.” He keeps his eyes locked on you to ask for reassurance, to wait if you’d argue, but you trust him and agree with a nod.
“We have to get out before more of the resistance comes over. Ready?” He asks Sam and you.
“Yes,” you sign and say, earning Henry’s attention. “I’m with you.”
Henry’s lips lift slightly before he gives you a thankful nod.
And just like Henry had mentioned, those same loud ass cars come soon, you can hear their loud rumbling engines, they make a commotion about one of their own dying and finding the people who did it; Albeit Henry did say it was only one old man. Nevertheless, by the time you imagine they get to searching the nearby places for that guilty man, you’re already out of the building, following that man you can’t see but Henry can.
Yet, it’s because of that same search that you have to be even more cautious like before. You have to hide in alleys, and take long pauses to wait for cars to roll by before continuing after the man.
Night comes, and you finally enter a building, but, you end up having to follow the fucking old man thirty something floors up the damn building. It’s safe sure, but so fucking high up after running all day.
Furthermore, as you’re walking to the room at the end of the hall, just as you’re about to reach the room, glass crunches under your feet, making Henry and you halt immediately, and for the both of you to stop quickly Sam too.
“Noisy?” Sam asks both Henry and you.
Henry agrees and answers. “Noisy.”
You pull your rifle strap off your shoulder, and watch Henry pull out a gun before grabbing Sam’s full attention. “Remember what to do?” He asks Sam.
Sam makes a gun sign and points to the door. Henry nods and then hands Sam the gun. And since it’s probably a bit heavy Sam lowers his hands, making Henry secure the boys hold around the weapon before looking up at you now.
“Y/N,” he signs and doesn’t speak for safety. “Stay here. If anyone comes in, jump them. Or if shit goes down in there and you hear gunshots, go in and surprise them for us. If you hear nothing then I’ll call you.”
You’re hesitant to obey, you want to go with him. But…after being stuck together in the attic for 11 days you trust him with your life, more than anyone. So you listen to his plan.
“Okay,” you assure him. “I will wait, but…” you pause and pull out your pistol from your holster. “Use mine. I have bullets, you don’t. I can’t have you go in unprotected.”
Henry glances at your weapon and seems hesitant to take it for a moment, but he has no choice but to trade guns.
“You know how to use it, yes?” You manage a joke.
Henry rolls his eyes and grabs Sam to walk ahead, leaving you to stand back and wait. Wait and listen.
Wait some more even when you catch someone else's voice inside; a young girl's not an old man yelling out the same name as your own fathers.
“Eyes on me,” you hear Henry command. “Eyes on me. You don’t have to worry about what to say. We don’t want to hurt you. We wanna help you.”
So they seem good?
Hm. You push yourself away from the wall and step in the middle of the hall, you try to get a view inside the room Henry and Sam had gone into, but it’s too dark. All you can go off of is Henry’s voice, which you can detect a hint of nervousness by the way.
“Okay,” a second voice says; an oddly familiar, deep and deadpanned one.
“Okay, uh,” Henry proceeds shakily, “I don’t know what the next step is with something like this…”
Oh sweet, sweet Henry.
You should’ve gone in his place instead.
“….but if I lower my gun, we didn’t hurt you, so you don’t hurt us, right?” He continues, providing a long pause that makes you lift your rifle and take one step forward.
“That’s right,” the manly voice responds in a deadpanned way. Which is funny because it actually sounds like your dad too.
“That’s a weird fuckin’ tone, man,” Henry snaps out nervously.
“That's just the way he sounds,” the young girl interjects quickly. “He has an asshole voice. Joel, tell him he’s okay.”
“Everything is great.”
Obviously not. But Henry doesn’t yell out for you, so you trust him and stay put.
“Dude.”
“Fuck!” Henry swears, making you look down at glass littered on the floor to step on the gaps that are clean—“okay. Listen,” Henry continues. “I’m gonna trust you.” Silence follows and you imagine he’s taking this time to communicate with Sam or think some more.
“But if either of you guys try anything,” Henry then exclaims. “Yeah? We also have someone else with us, she’s strong, so don’t try anything. Yeah?”
There’s a murmur you can’t make out before that manly voice speaks again. “Can I sit up?”
“Slow,” Henry says. “Get up slow. Y/N come on in…it’s okay!”
That’s your cue.
You only lower your gun a bit, but keep your hands tightly secured around your weapon as you slowly walk to the door.
“Who are you?” The man asks Henry now.
“My name is Henry. That’s my brother, Sam. I’m the most wanted man in Kansas City,” Henry’s voice gets louder the closer you approach the room. “Although, right now my guess is you’re running a close second.”
You reach the door and slowly push it open, announcing your presence to the others in the room. Yet as you step in the first person you focus on is Sam since he’s closer to the door. You’re about to ask if he’s okay, but you see the man behind him and slowly drag your eyes up to identify him.
And as soon as you land your eyes on his face, you freeze and gasp as you recognize his dark eyes, that face that has more wrinkles on it than before. You recognize his face even if it’s been years since you last saw him. After all, you could never forget how he looks, even with the anger you hold for him. You could never forget him, your dad.
“Oh my god,” you murmur and drop your gun as you keep your eyes on him, as you watch him slowly lose that furrowed brow, that look of nonchalance. You watch him grow disbelieved, or at least that’s what you want to think.
“Daddy?” You call out and stride over to him, whilst he walks over to you slowly as if he can’t believe what he’s seeing, as if he’s trying to debate if you’re some vision or not. “Daddy,” you murmur as you stand before him. “It’s me, It’s—”
Before you can finish your sentence he wraps you in embrace, he wraps an arm around your back, and slides his other hand to hold the back of your head. While you stay stiff in his arms.
“I know,” he murmurs against your ear. “I know baby, I know.” His voice is soft, not like it was a few minutes ago. He’s warm, and under the sweat you still recognize his own scent, it fills you with nostalgia and joy. It makes you hug him back and close your eyes to bask in the relief and safety you’re hit with in his arms.
“Let me look at you,” he whispers and pulls back to grab your face and study you. Study you after years of not seeing you. “Look at you….” He smiles softly and wipes away the tears on your cheeks that had broken out. “You’re all grown up. You’re so beautiful.”
You notice his graying hair. You see the exhaustion in his eyes, and the relief.
“What’s going on?” You hear the girl ask, but you don’t look at her or think further about her presence, all you can focus on is the man before you, and the fact that as of now that anger you held so close in your heart begins to wash away.
“Look at you,” you redirect with a wobbly grin. “You wear diapers yet?”
He scoffs softly. “I’m getting there.”
You laugh softly and linger in front of him for a second longer before you both hug each other again, before you cling onto his neck like you would when you were a little girl, when you’d greet him home from work, when he’d carry you after you woke up, or simply when you just needed his embrace. You cling onto him with fear he’d disappear.
So now, no one in the room could deny your connection.
“Oh baby girl,” he whispers.
You cry softly and nuzzle your head in the crook of his neck. You stay in the embrace for a few more moments, and he doesn’t try to pull away until you do to face Henry and Sam, and explain what they’re witnessing.
“This is my dad,” you sign and say out loud.
Sam blinks and looks at your dad by you, and then nods in comprehension, whilst Henry looks a bit disbelieved by the fact.
“Uh, sorry for the…gun,” Henry adds anyway.
“Dad,” you say and turn to look at him, “that’s Sam,” you point to the boy. “And that’s Henry….” You glance at the man and smile softly. “My partner.”
Henry meets your gaze and mirrors your gesture.
“Ellie,” the girl interjects and steps towards you to offer you her hand.
You snap your gaze to the small girl and quickly look at her up and down—brown hair, pale face, brown eyes. She can be his kid. Albeit she looks a bit too old to actually be his kid without you knowing about it. Then again it has been some time…so there’s a possibility….
“Y/N,” you share, and offer her a feigned smile as you take her hand so as to not be cold.
You then pull your hand away and think that she can be Tess’s kid with your dad, the girl kind of has a resemblance to Tess. However, you don’t see Tess here. Weren’t she and your dad inseparable?
You don’t ask about her though, even if you are curious.
“What are you doing here?” Your dad cuts in, letting you look at him. “You’re supposed to be in Wyoming.”
You sigh and nod. “It’s a long story, really. I’m sure I can share later.” You turn and head over to the gun you had dropped in front of the door. “What are you doing here though? It’s a long way from Boston.”
You hear your dad sigh. “It’s a long story,” he counters, making you scoff in amusement. “I’ll tell ya later. You talk to your uncle Tommy recently?”
You pick up your gun and hang it back around your shoulder. “No I haven't been able to,” you share and turn back around to face your dad. “I haven’t come across a radio in some time. Have you?”
Your dad swallows thickly before he shakes his head. “No,” he says, and you actually begin to worry by the hesitance in his tone.
Yet you don’t investigate further, leaving the room quiet, even if there was so much unsaid between you and your dad.
“Anyone hungry?” Ellie breaks silence.
You snap your eyes to her and nod for Sam and Henry. “Starving actually. You guys have some spare food? We’ve been on the run from the rebels outside, so it’s been a hard couple of days.”
“Yes,” your dad nods.
You offer him a thankful smile and then turn to Sam. “They have some food,” you let him know.
Sam smiles in relief.
“Why don't we set up shop, hm?” You say and break away from your spot to grab a lamp off some desk. “It’s crazy it’s been you this entire day,” you direct to your dad. “If I would’ve known we could’ve reunited earlier.”
The question about who Ellie is to him really kills you, but you keep holding back to avoid hearing what he’d say, what you were afraid he’d say.
“Well only if I knew you were here,” he quips in that same deadpanned voice.
You hum and turn to set the lamp down in between the cushions on the floor.
The girl sits down first and begins to rummage through her bag, while Sam and Henry sit across from her.
“I just got to Kansas City like maybe what,” you explain as you turn on the white lamp, providing at least some sort of light to an otherwise dark room. “Almost 2 months ago, or so.” You sit down across from your dad and meet his gaze. “I wasn’t planning to stay, but well,” you sigh. “Shit went down and I had no choice. That's when I met Henry and Sam.”
Ellie passes your dad something wrapped in paper, and as he opens it and reveals food, he looks over at you again. “Where were you coming from?” He asks and hands you some food that you pass to Sam first.
“Well,” you murmur and drop your gaze knowing he wouldn't like your answer. “A…” you hesitate and scoff. “Countrywide adventure to tell the truth.” You drift your eyes up, catching him stopping his hand midway as he’s about to hand you some more food. He narrows his eyes on you and shakes his head.
“Y/N—”
“Daddy,” you cut him off. “You can't be mad, I’m on my way home.”
A wave of emotions pass, and you swear you can even see a hint of sadness pass, but it doesn’t linger too long for you to confirm it.
“You could’ve gotten yourself killed,” he mutters and hands you a piece of food you hand to Henry. “I can’t believe your uncle Tommy let you leave.”
You scoff and shrug off your back pack, and put down your gun to grab your food now. “I was 22 when I left, I was grown. And he trusted me.”
Your dad blinks and looks at his own piece of food as he swallows thickly again.
“Why did you leave?” Ellie interjects.
You smirk and share your truth. “Prove to myself that I can survive.”
Ellie begins to slowly smirk. “Cool,” she says.
And it might or might not be a choice fueled by your dad, or really his past behavior.
“Where did you get these?” Henry interjects and changes the subject.
“From Bill,” Ellie answers. “He’s dead.”
Oh. Okay.
Silence passes, and your dad takes this time to hand Sam some more food.
And as soon as the boy gets it he taps your arm so you’ll look at him and what he signs.
“Yeah,” you assure him. “I’ll tell him.” You look to your dad and share what Sam told you. “He says thank you.”
“I’m guessing you don’t have much,” Henry adds. “So, this means a lot.”
You hum in agreement.
“How old is he?” Ellie asks.
Henry turns to Sam and shares what Ellie had asked him, making Sam answer.
“He’s eight,” Henry shares for Sam.
Ellie nods and smiles. “Cool. I’m Ellie.”
Henry once again communicates with Sam, causing Sam to look over at the girl and sign cool as he nods.
Silence then proceeds to fall again, but now you catch Ellie hit your dads leg to encourage him to introduce himself now, making you be more assured by the fact that she could be his kid. One he didn’t tell anyone about, not even you…
“I’m Joel,” your dad adds bluntly. “Look, you ate, we didn’t kill each other, let’s call this a win-win and move on.” He glances at you towards the end of his conversation, seeking you to speak.
Yet you don’t, you let Henry do so
“Well, I’m betting that y’all came up here to get a view of the city and plan a way out. And when the suns up, we’ll show you one.” Henry glances at you at the end, so you share an assuring look.
“There isn’t a lot we can see right now,” you add and look to your dad. “It’s dark. Once the sun goes up we can…” you pause and sigh. “Talk more. As of now if you guys want to sleep, go ahead. Henry and I can keep watch.”
“No,” Henry cuts you off. “You’ve been up all day, I can stay awake, Sam and you can get some sleep.”
You meet Henry’s gaze and come up with another option since you know your father wouldn’t be so open to that idea. And well you do want to talk to your dad too, someone you haven’t seen in years and suddenly appears here, Kansas City of all places.
“You sleep,” you direct at Henry. “I’ll…stay up with my dad, there’s things we need to talk about anyway.” You look over at said man, and meet his dark gaze.
And without adding much, your dad hums in agreement, making you smile softly.
“So,” you roll out and look down at Sam next to you. “You,” you point and begin to sign and speak quietly. “Need sleep.”
Sam rolls his eyes, but nods slowly. However, before he can stand up to find some corner, he adds one thing. “I decided what I want to have in Wyoming.”
You grow curious and probe.
“A giraffe,” he shares, making you grin.
“A giraffe,” you repeat. “Man,” you chuckle as you sign to him. “I don’t know how I’ll fit a giraffe in the backyard.”
“You said,” he argues. “Any pet.”
You sigh and drop your shoulders to try and pursue him to another option. “How about a goat, or,” you snap your fingers as the idea comes to mind. “A dog? A Cat?”
Sam shakes his head and looks at Henry and then at you to repeat himself. “A giraffe.”
You sigh in defeat, and nod your head. “Fine, fine, you twisted my arm, I will see what I can do, how about that?” You ask with a soft smile, in that moment missing how Henry was watching you; like he’s never seen something so beautiful in his life.
Albeit, you might not have noticed but your dad does. Your dad saw how you had just talked to Sam, so sweet and caring even through all this crap. So maybe he was right in leaving you with your uncle Tommy.
In the years before he left though, you were somewhat the same, you liked to see the good out of the bad even as young as you were, even as scared of the new world as you were. He doesn’t know how you did, where you got that from, but he knows that if you were stuck with him all your life, you wouldn't have stayed yourself. As you were before this outbreak, so, it’s good that you hadn’t been together until now.
“Are you sure?” Henry double checks as Sam walks away from the group.
You nod. “Yeah. I’m sure,” you assure him. “Go, get some sleep.”
Henry hesitates for a moment before he follows after his brother, leaving Ellie, your dad, and you left. Yet he sends Ellie off to bed too, and she relencutenly listens.
So now it’s just you and him, but neither of you speak until you know everyone is asleep.
“So,” you whisper as you move to sit by his left side. “Are you gonna tell me what you’re doing here?”
“It’s not as exciting as your reason,” he deadpans, making you smile. “I still can’t believe Tommy would let you leave. Tsk.”
You drop your gaze and do share the truth you hid. “He didn’t want me to leave, we argued…but at the end of the day, I was an adult, he knew he couldn’t hold me back.” You lift your gaze to look back at your dad. “You didn’t answer me though.”
Your dad meets your gaze and then glances at Henry across the room for a moment before he drops his gaze and mutters. “No offense or anything, but I don’t trust your partner. I trust you, but not him, so let’s save this conversation for later.”
So he hasn’t changed. That’s good to know.
“Okay,“ you grumble in annoyance, and instead chose to focus on the girl he’s traveling with. “The girl, is she your…”
“No,” your dad cuts you off before you can ask what he knew you were curious about. “She’s not anything. She’s cargo.”
Oh. Well now you’re even more curious. It’s bad he won’t answer a fucking thing.
“So what?” You retort. “Are you on some kinda mission?”
“Yeah,” he nods. “Somethin like that.” He meets your gaze, and you let your own gaze linger on him as more questions build up, as you want to spill out so much more. But, right now, at this moment you don’t want to ruin the bliss of this reunion, you’re happy to see him again, and you want to focus on that.
“You,” he continues to speak. “How are you doing, hm? You okay?”
You nod and sigh. “I was hurt, that's why I stayed, but I’m okay now. You?” You ask and prop your elbows on your knees to rest your chin on your hands. “I mean besides being old.”
Your dad rolls his eyes and scoffs. “I’m okay,” he mutters. “And you're getting there too, what are you now 30?” He manages to tease you with a faint smirk dancing on his lips.
“I’m 24,” you correct him. “And 30 is not that old, okay?”
“Yeah, says you, you’re almost halfway there,” he reminds you, making you smile that he remembers. “You still make it a big deal?”
You snicker. “Daddy, you know me right? Of course I do.”
His smirk deepens. “What was it you said when you were a little girl?” He asks even if he still in fact remembers. “That Valentine’s Day was celebrated ‘cause it was your birthday that day?
You nod. “I still believe that,” you mumble with a stifled laugh.
He laughs softly and shakes his head. And you smile softly. It’s been so long since you’ve talked, so long since you’ve laughed together, and now after years of estrangement, sharing that same connection fills your heart with such heartwarming bliss you’ve missed.
“You going to Wyoming?” You quiere a bit mote seriously.
Your dad nods stiffly.
You scoff. “Uncle Tommy might get some kind of heart attack when he sees you.” You grin.
“He’s old,” you both say at the same time.
You giggle quietly and nod. Silence follows, comforting silence that lets you notice the watch on his wrist, the same one Sarah had given him for his birthday 20 years ago. He still wears it.
He never liked talking about her after she died, you can’t imagine that’s changed, but you still miss her and he still misses her too. So without saying anything you sit up and grab his wrist to carefully swipe your finger over the cracked glass.
Your dad watches you and of course doesn’t add anything, he lets you hold his hand to look at the watch instead.
“Get some sleep,” he mutters. “I’ll stay up.”
You let his hand go and breathe out softly before blinking and looking at him. “It’s okay. I’ll stay up with you. I missed you.” You admit.
The corner of his lips twitch to a smile, and he then wraps his arm around your shoulders to press you against him and press a kiss on the top of your head.
You smile and rest your head on his shoulder as he keeps his arm around you. You sit in the silence then, basked only by the dim white light. And you fight it, fight the sleep that came as you felt comforted and safe by your dad, but it overtook you, and regardless of what you told him you fell asleep with your head on his shoulder just like you would when you were a little girl.
——
*THE NEXT MORNING*
“Welcome to Killa City,” Henry says whilst he, you and your dad look out at the city from an office building.
“No FEDRA,” your dad interjects.
Henry shakes his head. “Not as of 2 months ago, no.”
“We always heard KC FEDRA was—”
“Monsters? Savages?” Henry cuts your dad off, and looks at him as he nods. “Yeah, you heard right. Raped and tortured and murdered people for 20 years. And you know what happens when you do that to people? The moment they get a chance they do it back to you.”
“But you’re not FEDRA,” your dad mutters, and you sigh quietly and avert your gaze as you know what’s coming is something he won’t like.
“No, worse,” Henry says. “I’m a collaborator.”
You clench your jaw and peek over, catching your fathers immediate displeasure and judgment.
“I don’t work with rats,” he snaps at Henry, and side eyes you since he knows he had taught you better.
“Yeah,” Henry scoffs. “You fucking do.”
You sigh and drag your eyes to him. “Henry,” you warn.
Said man glances at you, but he doesn’t change his tone of voice.
“Today you do.” He continues. “‘Cause I live here and you don’t. That’s how we followed you here….”
Albeit you didn’t actually know you were following your own father when Henry told you.
“I know this city, and that’s how I’m gonna help you get out.”
“Why help us?” Your dad queries.
Henry glances over at you and his gaze softens. “Her, for one,” he points to you, making you feel flustered. “And two, I saw what you did, the way you killed those men,” he says and glances back at your dad, making you do the same. “Now, I know where to go, and I trust y/n would have gotten us out alive, but we are safer in numbers.”
You meet your dad gaze briefly before he directs his comment to Henry. “You seem capable enough. You’re armed.”
Tsk.
“You’re wrong, and wrong,” Henry rebuttals. “Never killed anyone. And pointing that borrowed gun at you was the closest I’ve ever come to being violent….so that’s the deal. I show the way, you and y/n clear the way.”
You nod in agreement, and then look to your father in hopes he’d agree too. After all, you are going to the same place.
Yet you can’t read the answer he may have, he makes it hard to do so. But you want to believe he’d want to stick around with you at least….
What if you’re not enough though? He’s left before.
You sigh shakily and want to pull him away, but then a distinctive laugh fills the room. When you glance back you see Sam laughing with Ellie.
She made him laugh.
“Haven't heard that in a long time,” Henry says.
You smile at the boy, and then share that same happy smile with Henry.
“So how are we gettin’ out?” Your dad gives in, making you look to the ground and smile wider.
Without hesitation Henry walks to the table and pulls a piece of paper and pencil from his backpack, making your dad and you gather around the table where Henry is to watch as he begins to write. And shortly thereafter Ellie joins the group too, leaving Sam to sit at the other side of the table in wait.
“Highways, downtown,” Henry explains and points and circles the spots with his fingers. “Us. This whole area belongs to Kathleen.”
“She’s in charge?” Ellie probes.
You cross your arms over your chest and nod before answering with what you’ve been told from Henry himself, and the others that were a part of his group. “Leader of the resistance.”
“You can see the way we’re bounded by highways,” Henry continues to explain. “They got people posted all around the inside perimeter. If we get close, we get caught. No question. So how do we get across?” He asks, but then taps the surface of the table to gain Sam’s attention.
And when the boy looks up Henry asks the same question, so Sam can write down the answer on his board. “Tunnels.”
Henry snaps his fingers and says. “Boom.”
“Kansas City has a subway?” Your dad questions.
“No, but they do have maintained tunnels,” Henry answers. “There’s a bunch of buildings all put up by the same developers. And they share these tunnels, including,” he says and looks back at his paper.
“A bank building here.” He writes down on the paper as he explains as well. “So we enter the tunnels here, travel underground, and pop up here. Westside North. Residential. There’s an embankment on the other side of the houses. We head down, pedestrian bridge over the river.” He drops his pencil and claps proudly. “Free as a bird.” He then shoots you a proud look.
And you might be impressed by his plan, but your dad doesn’t seem so.
“You’re right,” your dad comments. “It’s a great plan. So what do you need us for?” Your dad points to him and you.
Henry sighs and shares one concerned look with you before looking at your dad and explaining further. “You noticed anything strange about this city? I mean, other than the strange shit you’ve already seen?”
“No infected?” Ellie answers correctly right away.
“Oh, there’s infected,” Henry corrects her. “Just not on the surface. FEDRA drove them underground 15 years ago and never let them come back up. It’s the only good thing those fascist motherfuckers ever did.”
“So you want us goin’ into a tunnel?” Your dad quips as he looks between Ellie and you.
“Everyone thinks that It’s full of infected,” Henry adds. “Including Kathleen, which means that we’re not gonna be running into any of her people. But you see, what I know is, it’s empty.”
“You’ve been down there?” Your dad asks.
You avert your gaze and hear Henry’s response. “No,”
“Oh god,” your dad mutters in annoyance. “Y/N.”
Yes, it’s a very questionable plan, you know that, but that’s why Henry and Sam had you. To fight for them.
“…but the FEDRA guy that I worked with told me that it’s clean,” Henry continues. “Completely clean. They cleared it out. All of it.”
“When?” Ellie asks.
“Like, three years ago,” Henry says.
Your dad scoffs and shakes his head.
“Okay, maybe,” Henry quickly adds. “There’s one or two, but you can handle it.”
“What if there’s more?” Your dad counters.
“Or one of those blind ones that sees like a bat?” Ellie adds her question.
“Y/N has fought clickers,” Henry explains and points to you.
You nervously glance up at your dad, and meet his quick judgmental gaze only meant for one man.
“And now I know you have,” Henry continues. “You see? You’re the right people. If it gets bad down there, we turn around, and run right back out the same way we came.”
“Oh that’s your great plan?” Your dad argues. “Put my—”
“No, that’s my dicey-as-fuck plan,” Henry cuts your dad off. “But as far as I can tell…it’s our only shot.”
“Y/N,” your dad presses you to explain yourself and your decision to follow something risky.
“It’s our only choice,” you vouch for Henry. “They chased us out of the forest, and now they have the forest line surrounded. It’s either this way or we go guns blazing. Which is an actual stupid idea. Trust me. Can you do that? I know it’s been a while,” you swallow thickly. “But can you do that?”
Your dads gaze lingers on you, his answer is simple in regards to you, but it’s the man you’re with that makes his choice difficult.
“They’re saying,” you hear Henry interject before your dad can answer you. “They’re going to help us escape.”
You look to the end of the table and see Sam smirk and nod in comprehension.
“Right?” Henry asks.
“Fine,” your dad grumbles, making you smile softly at him.
Good thing it didn’t come to choosing sides because if it had you don’t know who you’d side with….
Regardless, you don’t linger in the building any longer, the next rotation would start their shift soon, so now was the time to flee while the ghost was clear.
There could be surprises considering they are looking for your dad now too. But luckily the run to the bank was clear, and the bank itself was clear—It seems that the resistance group isn’t as smart as they think they are.
The only difficulty is now navigating your way through the long dark tunnel that you’re in.
“This should be it,” Henry says once the door closes behind your dad. “You ready?”
You turn your flashlight on and step down the stairs first.
“Get your gun out,” you hear your dad tell Ellie most likely. But you take this time you pull your rifle down and have it ready just in case something jumps out in this silence.
“How many bullets do you have?” You direct to your dad and look over your shoulder, noticing him climbing down the stairs to join you so you can both lead the way to some other big metal door.
“Not a lot,” he says, and shortly thereafter stops to open the big metal door for everyone. “You?” He asks once it’s open.
“Not a lot either,” you grumble and continue to slowly walk forward with your light pointing at the long path ahead.
“You see? It’s empty,” Henry points out loudly and with pride. “The plan is good!”
You look back to kindly tell him otherwise even if you really don’t smell or hear anything concerning, yet your dad beats you to it.
“Shh,” your dad shushes him. “The plan is good?” He repeats and scolds Henry. “We’ve been here for two seconds. We don’t know anything.”
Henry meets your gaze, and you shoot him a comforting smile before he leans close to Ellie and directs his comment to her.
“Your dads kind of a pessimist.”
“He’s not my dad.” Ellie quickly rebuttals, at the same your dad also does
“I’m not her dad.”
Why do they sound offended?
Maybe there shouldn’t be a reason why you need to be jealous then?
“Just point your light forward,” your dad continues to tell Henry. “And be ready to run.” He continues walking, so you also continue to lead the way at his side.
It turns out to be a long walk. A silent one thankfully. It seems Henry was right about this tunnel now being infected free. Yet as you come approaching some colorful painted doors who knows what may lie behind them.
“Whoa,” Ellie utters as you all flash your lights at the colorful drawings that fill the three walls.
There’s a castle painted around the doors, flowers and plants on the other walls, children, rainbows and a sun. This must be the reason why the infected aren’t down here.
Yet it’s too quiet, and unprotected. And when you feel the walls to check if it’s fresh or old paint. Thankfully, or sadly…the paint is dry and crusted.
“Let’s knock,” you suggest. "If there's infected they’ll run to the door, if there’s people then we’ll hear them too. If there’s nothing then…the ghost is clear.”
Your dad hums and nods in agreement. And just as you step forward and lift your fist to knock, Sam passes you to reach the door, but you quickly grab his arm and face him.
“No,” you warn him. “It can be dangerous. Always, always check if something is safe first, okay?” You take this time to teach him. “You understand me?”
Sam's smile fades, and he quickly responds. “I understand, sorry.”
You shake your head. “You did nothing wrong, just always double check first. Wait. My dad and I will give the sign that it’s safe. Okay?”
Sam nods stiffly and steps behind you, letting you secure his hand under yours, and now knock.
Once you get no response your dad opens the door first and slowly walks in, letting you and the rest follow him inside, noticing a larger room with more painted walls, with furniture and books. A home. An abandoned home.
You let Sam’s hand go and turn your flashlight off since this room is basked by natural light that comes from the vents on the ceiling.
“I heard about places like this,” your dad comments as he slows his pace to study the room. “People went underground after Outbreak day. Built settlements.”
You hang your rifle around your shoulder and slowly begin to walk ahead to investigate more of this living space.
“What happened to them?” Ellie asks.
“Maybe they didn’t follow the rules and they all got infected,” your dad counters.
Or they got tired of underground living and left. That’s what you hope happened anyway.
“No way!” You hear Ellie exclaim, making you snap your head to her out of fear.
Yet when your eyes land on her, you see her and Sam around a small table checking out a comic book.
“I love these!”
Fuck.
You let out a relieved sigh and continue towards a shelf of records and movies. Ellie continues to talk, but you focus on the music and films that have collected dust, giving away the time of unuse; hinting mostly at how long this place has been abandoned.
“…fuck yeah man!”
“Hey, keep it down,” your dad cuts Ellie off. “We’re not out yet.”
There he goes…grumpy, and overly cautious.
“C’mon,” Ellie groans. “Can we just rest here for a while? There’s like, actually shit to do here.”
A certain movie called Curtis and Viper 2 grabs your attention, and makes you smile to yourself while they talked.
“Wouldn’t be so bad to wait the light out a bit,” Henry tries to persuade your dad. “Safer in shadows when we pop back out on the other side.”
You snatch the movie from the shelf and look over your shoulder to wait for your fathers response. And surprisingly he gives in, letting you focus back on the shelf of goodies.
Since the records take too much room in your pack you leave them behind unfortunately, and step over to the box of cassettes, finding many albums that you had left back home, some that were your favorite and haven’t heard in years.
You find books, two that practically caught your attention. You find accessories, and more stuff that you would have enjoyed when you were a little kid. Albeit you still do put on some heart shaped sunglasses for fun now.
And even if it’s a habit your father is used to or should be used to, he still questions your choice of accessory as you join him and Henry sitting around a table. “What are you wearin’?”
You grin and pull up a chair next to Henry. “Daddy, don’t they look great on me?”
Your dad scoffs and looks away. “Well it’s good to see you haven’t changed,” he mumbles whilst he hides his faint smile over the fact.
You grin and proceed to throw your backpack and gun down, to then rest your feet on Henry’s lap as you sit back on the chair. “Look what I found,” you bring up and put your stuff down to show them a pun book. “A pun book. These are so fun, you love these don’t you,” you point at your dad.
His gaze drifts back to you and his eyes narrow. “Y/N,” he mutters, but you ignore him and open the book to read a random joke.
“A book,” you begin to giggle. “A book just fell on my head. I only have myself to blame—“ you stop and snort. “Fuck! No, fuck I said that wrong,” you giggle some more and correct yourself. “A book just fell on my head…I only have my shelf to blame.” You look up and see your dad keep his arms crossed over his chest and his nonchalance on his face, so you look over at Henry, and see him smile.
“Yeah,” you mutter. “I ruined that one.” You scoff and flip the page to read another one. “Ah, another! I used to be addicted to soap,” you laugh softly and glance up at your audience. “But I’m clean now.” You laugh and actually hear Henry giggle.
“Next…” you flip the page and grin as you find a good one. “Do you know what’s not right?” You ask and look up as you press the book against your chest to wait for a response.
“Left,” Henry answers, making you beam and nod.
“Yeah, yeah, you get it,” you laugh. “That was a good one.” You close the book and shove it in your backpack. “I’ll say more later….Now.” You say and sit up to grab another book. “Look. Little Women, my favorite book. Which,” you point the book at your dad and Henry. “I made into a play back home a few years back…”
You miss your dads curious look as you mention that you have made a play since you continue to speak.
“…I’ll let y’all guess who I played.”
“The main character?” Henry probes.
You put the book down on the table and shake your head. “Nope. Read the book and you’ll know. And look,” you continue and lift a cassette. “ABBA, and Kate Bush, Hounds of Love album, I love Running up That Hill.”
“I swear you love every song,” Henry comments.
You shrug and smirk. “Yeah, pft, well there’s too many to choose from.” You bend down and pull out your Walkman to put in the Kate Bush tape.
“Actually, before you do that,” Henry mumbles. “I found you something,”
You blink and snatch your sunglasses off to look up at him without the dark tint.
“It reminded me of you,” he says timidly and leans closer to you to pin something on your poncho.
When he pulls his hand away, you look down and see a small little gold sun pin.
“Uh, you can pin it to your backpack, or I don’t know, keep it there, but I just wanted you to have it.”
You smile softly and look up at him to meet his soft enamored gaze.
“Thank you,” you whisper and grab his chin to caress it before you lean in and press a small kiss on his lips, forgetting in that moment that your father was nearby—“I love it.”
“Good,” Henry says. “Good.”
You both let your gazes linger for a moment longer before you grab your book to hide your giddy grin as you sit back. You then proceed to put on your earphones on, and press play on the music, but can’t stop smiling like a love struck idiot.
But maybe you are one though….
Anyway, you read some pages of the book and miss the conversation that your dad and Henry have, you don’t look up, or listen in. You don’t look up until Ellie and Sam playing across the room catch your attention.
And at first it was just a brief glance since you could hear them faintly through your music, but as you see that they’re playing soccer, as you see Sam trick Ellie to take the soccer ball away from her, you grow nostalgic and sad. You remember Sarah, again, this time more than ever. You remember playing soccer with her in the backyard of your house, you remember tricking her to steal her ball away; the memory plays faintly in your mind, bringing tears to your eyes.
You remember her smile, her laugh. You remember those simple days, and miss her, just like you do every single day that passes.
“…Y/N…”
You blink at the sound of your muffled name and look up, catching your dad standing by you now. You pull your earphones off and hum to probe.
“It’s time to go,” he says.
You draw in a deep shaky breath and nod in comprehension. He walks away and you sigh as you pull your legs off Henry’s lap to pack up your things now.
“I don’t think he likes me that much,” Henry whispers.
You glance over at him and then look at your dad walking to Ellie.
“Just,” you quickly try to assure Henry. “Give him time. He’s,” you smile. “He’s a hardass, but he will come around.” You zip up your backpack and pick it up, before grabbing your rifle off the ground to then stand up.
Henry stands up from the chair too and sighs.
“Come on,” you urge him softly. “Let’s get out of here.”

Devil’s Trap
-Dean walks away from Meg and Sam is like “are you okay?” It’s just so cute how Sam shows his care for Dean by paying close attention to him like this
-Dean says he always wanted to be a fireman when he grew up and Sam goes “you never told me that!” in this cute little brother way like he can’t believe Dean would keep something like that from him.
I feel like we as a society (by which I mean the wincest posts that show up on my dash) moved on too quickly from fireman Dean. Dean would be a fantastic fucking fireman. He could put “rescued my perfect sweet-eyed baby brother from three burning buildings” on his resume. He really sees no value in anything that he can’t relate back to Sam, does he?
-The first time Dean knowingly kills someone it’s to save Sam. A love that corrupts etc
Images that feel both illegal and religious
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
The way Sam melts into Dean completely, mouth open, eyes shut.
Sam says softly “you saved my life back there” which is inherently romantic. Dean tells Sam “For you or dad the things I’m willing to do or kill…it scares me sometimes.” His love for Sam scares him sometimes. Dean also saved Sam in spite of his dad’s disapproval of him using the Colt.
-Dean to possessed John: “He wouldn’t be proud of me… you’re not my dad.” Yikes, condolences. Poor Dean
-Sam walks into the room to find Dean aiming the colt at John and goes “Dean!” right as Dean tells him to stay back. I have a feeling if it had been John aiming a gun at Dean, Sam still would’ve gone “Dean!” and Dean would’ve told him to stay back, and if it were either of them aiming a gun at Sam, Sam still would’ve gone “Dean!” and Dean would’ve told him to stay back. If something’s not right Sam’s gonna yell “Dean!” and Dean’s gonna tell Sam to stay back.
Dean tells Sam John is possessed.
Sam asks how do you know, because Sam likes to be informed, and Dean just says “he’s different.”
Tumblr media
That’s enough for Sam. He GETS BEHIND DEAN. This is the underrated samdean moment of all time for me. He doesn’t even hesitate. He tested John with holy water himself, but he knows that Dean knows John well, and he trusts Dean. He said last episode that Dean is the one person he can always count on. And he doesn’t just go to his side, he stands close behind him so that Dean can protect him.
Tumblr media
-The demon taunts Dean by saying his family doesn’t need him
Tumblr media
and the camera cuts to Sam who’s like. He doesn’t think I need him? 🥺
-Sam shoots their possessed dad in the thigh and immediately runs to kneel by Dean and worry over him. Dean asks Sam to go check on John, and Sam makes a face like What the fuck? I’m busy checking on you
Tumblr media
Sam complies and stands over John to check on him. It’s just so different from his concern for Dean. Like, that’s his dad that he just maimed, lying on the floor not moving, and 110% of Sam’s concern is directed at Dean. It’s not a competition, but if it were, Dean would win.
-John tells Sam “shoot me” but Dean tells him not to, so of course he listens to Dean.
John is disappointed in Sam because “killing this demon comes first. Before me, before everything.” Sam looks at Dean in the rearview mirror and says “no sir, not before everything.” John is the one that Sam chose not to kill when he had the chance to kill the demon, and yet it’s Dean he’s thinking about when John says this. Nothing comes before Dean. A big part of Sam’s choice not to shoot when his dad was possessed was not being able to hurt Dean like that, knowing that Dean would rather have John alive than the demon dead. I honestly think he would’ve pulled the trigger if Dean told him to.
It’s a beautiful resolution to their fight last episode when Dean told Sam that he is more important to him than killing the demon. They’re explicitly each other’s top priorities by this last scene.
