if you ever feel alone, don't - pt 1
chrollo x fem!reader
cw: alcohol, yandere themes, and dark content in general. lightly edited.

a/n: this is part 1 of a multi part fic I plan to do. if you know why the title makes me laugh, we can be besties forever. anyway, enjoy!

The city’s lights capture you. Coming from a small village in the middle of nowhere Yorknew City was everything you’d ever imagined and more. You stare out the tall glass windows of your hotel for longer than you expected. Where was your father?
He’d asked you to meet him here at 8 o’clock and you’d made it a bit early. It was fifteen till when you arrived. The sun had set beyond the skyline, all the lights illuminating the city as if it didn’t matter if there even were a sun. You smiled at the thought of a world devoid of a sun, always dark and cool. Of course, it would be freezing and unsustainable for life.
Your village is along the equator, always warm and sunny. You loathe it. Even when it rains, it’s just sticky and hot. The cool breeze and chilly nights in Yorknew are all you’ve ever dreamed of. When your father finally agreed to bring you with him for work and to explore the universities within the area, you squealed with joy. He chuckled, patting your shoulder and going back to his office.
Managing to tear your gaze away from the lights, you look around the bar. It’s positioned in the middle of the hotel, another bar somewhere towards the top and one near the lobby. He’d said the one closest to your rooms, and given you were on the same floor, you assumed this was the right place. He’s just nowhere in sight.
However, the bar is pretty crowded. You decide to walk around the room and look around. There are people mingling all around, some dressed in suits and gowns, others in business attire, and a few in what you assume to be casual street wear for the city. Thankfully, your father was kind enough to buy you a few new outfits when you arrived, so you didn’t feel out of place.
The plum dress hugs your curves, the fabric soft on your skin. You tug it down your thighs after walking towards the bar, feeling it getting a bit shorter than you’re used to. The fabric is thicker than the linen you’re used to back home, too, so you’re not used to the way it feels in general.
There’s two seats open at the bar, one beside an elderly man who has a few empty glasses stacked nearby. His face is red and puffy, clearly inebriated. He’s mumbling something to the younger woman beside him, who looks uncomfortable. So not there then.
The other seat is by a man in a black suit. He looks to be within a few years of your age from what you can tell. He has a white bandage wrapped around his forehead a few times, His black straight hair falling over it and covering the sides and back. He’s sipping on a dark auburn liquid, not paying much attention to anything or one around him.
You take that seat.
He doesn’t even so much as side eye you as you sit, so you look for the bartender. One finally notices your small wave and comes to talk to you. You glance around at the wines, not really sure what to order. You’re embarrassed by the time the bartender approaches.
“Sweet or dry?” The dark-haired man speaks to you.
“Excuse me?” Not sure if you heard him right.
“Do you like sweet wines like a dessert wine or dry wines?” He looks at you now, his grey on your face, waiting for an answer.
“I don’t know. My parents don’t keep anything like that in the house.” You admit, feeling even more embarrassed than before.
“Get a Pinot Noir.” He tells you. “They have a good one here.”
You frown and turn away.
“Have you decided ma’am?” The bartender asks you and you stare at him still unsure.
“She’ll take your finest Pinot Noir, put it on my tab. Just bring a bottle, and two glasses.”
“Yes, Mr. Lucilfer.” The bartender goes behind the bar to the wine cellar, you presume.
“I’m sorry, do you know me?” You ask, knowing for sure you do not know him. “It’s a bit presumptuous to assume I’ll share a drink with you.”
He smiles, leaning forward, his elbow on the bar and his head in his hand. “Won’t you, though? You’re not doing anything better.”
“I’m waiting for my father.” You tell him as a wine glass is set in front of you.
“First time here, isn’t it?” He asks as the bartender pours the wine into your glass. You thank him and nod to your new acquaintance. “Take a sip,” he gestures to the wine glass with his own.
You are interested in it, so you take a sip. It’s not what you’d expected, perhaps the idea of a sweet wine is what you always imagined it to taste like. However, this is much more robust. You taste hints of berries with an earthy undertone. It’s fine, you decide.
“Not what you expected?” He asks sipping from his own glass. “It’s fine if you don’t like it.”
“I don’t know if I like it or not,” you admit. “It’s just fine.”
He chuckles, and you decide you like the way it sounds. He’s pretty, and you’ve noticed it since you sat down. But something else about him makes the hairs on the back of your neck stand at attention. You glance around the room, looking for your father again. Nothing.
“I’m sure he will be here soon.” You nod in agreement.
After a few glasses of wine, your father hasn’t shown up. Your body feels warm with the alcohol and your head is feeling the effects now too. You’ve never been tipsy before, let alone drunk and you’re certain you’re nearly there. You decline My. Lucilfer’s offer at another bottle and offer some of the cash you have on you for the first, but he declines.
“Thanks for the drinks,” you stand up and feel your legs wobble but you retain your balance quickly.
“Are you able to make it home?”
“Oh, I’m staying in the hotel. My room is down the hall. I’ll be fine.” You tell him. “I’m —--, by the way. It was nice meeting you.”
“Chrollo,” he tells you and you smile. “Be safe. This city is notorious.”
“I’ll be careful,” with that you turn and leave, scanning the room for any sign of your father.
Of course, there’s no sign of him. Perhaps you can reach him on your phone? You try calling him twice but nothing both times. It’s plausible he got held up in a meeting this evening and just forgot to tell you. He’s done that before at home. You make it to your room in a few minutes, showering and getting ready for bed.
When you walk out of the bathroom and into your bedroom for the evening, you find a present on your bed. A small black box with a red ribbon wrapped around it. Perhaps your father stopped in when you were showering and wanted to apologize for missing you this evening. You dress in your favorite pink nightgown and open the curtains of the hotel room to see the lights as you finish your nighttime routine.
Checking the door to the other bedroom in the suite, you find it’s locked. Your father must be asleep or showering. You’ll see him in the morning. You sit on the end of your bed and place the black box in your lap. Untying the bow, a note falls to the floor, but you ignore it; more interested in what is inside.
A brown leather journal sits in the bottom of the box. You smile, reaching in and pulling it out. As you flip through the pages, a small golden locket on a gold chain falls out from the cover. A small rose is engraved on the oval locket. When you open it, it’s a photo of you arriving in Yorknew from the airport. You had noticed the photographers around, but didn’t expect it to be here. The journal is empty, no note or greeting. Despite that, you’re excited.
You unclasp the necklace and fight to put it on. Finally, you hook the chain and clasp it around your neck. Placing the book beside your bed on the nightstand, you toss the gift box to the side. You’re sure the maid will get rid of it tomorrow. As you crawl into bed, you clutch the locket in your hand as you doze off.
–
It’s raining when your alarm goes off. You can hear it outside the windows as you stir from your bed. You stretch your arms out and feel the warm metal chain on your neck and chest from the new locket. You smile, touching it again and then sitting up. The room is illuminated where you left your curtains open, the sun bright in the sky.
Today you have two university tours scheduled, so you need to get ready. Your father insisted you wear a black pair of slacks he bought you and a lilac blouse. It is a pretty outfit, professional without aging you too much. Your makeup and hair take a while, since you decided to let it air dry last night. After you manage to wrangle it into submission, you start applying makeup. It doesn’t take too long, and you have plenty of time to order room service.
You check your phone after you order, no word from your father. Your anxiety eats at you as you send him a text, asking him if he’s ready for the tours. If he blows you off today, you’ll be upset. He’s always wanted you to attend school, ever since your mother passed he’s been more attentive.
She passed about five years ago now, when you were just in your early teens. She was very caring and loving, but also gone a lot for business. When she fell ill, you stayed by her side until she passed. You miss her a lot, but your father has never let you go a day feeling unloved, even in his absence.
Well, until this morning.
The food arrives and you eat the french toast and fruit. The coffee here is especially nice, something you have more than enough at home. Your father’s business is coffee. It makes you wonder if this hotel is one of his buyers.
You knock on his door, no reply.
“Dad,” you say loudly, scared he’s asleep. No reply. “This isn’t funny. I have to be at the art school in 30 minutes!” Nothing. “I’ll go without you!”
You know you have that tone in your voice that gets under his skin and makes his eye twitch, but you don’t care. Today is supposed to be about you. If he ruins this, you’ll be sure to ruin his day somehow or another.
Ten minutes pass and he doesn’t stir. Perhaps he’s at the cafe in the lobby. You leave your room, double checking your purse to make sure you have everything to return and then take the elevator down. Looking around, you don’t find him.
He’s really starting to piss you off now.
You order a coffee to go and then look around the cafe. You spot the man from last night at a table with a blonde man in a green tracksuit. You wave and he nods towards you. The blonde turns around and glares at you. You look away. Your coffee is done moments later and you walk out, and start down the street towards the first university, Yorknew Arts and Sciences.
This is a small college with only a handful of majors. You’re excited they have a good writing program and journalism program so you could potentially double major in them. However, it’s not your first choice. You want something bigger, but your father insisted since it’s one of the top schools in this region.
An overexcited student greets you as you walk into the admissions office. You give him your name and let him give you a tour of the campus. It’s about ten buildings all within a courtyard walk of each other centered around a giant fountain with a statue atop it. It’s beautiful and feels very much like a place you could see yourself. However, it doesn’t feel like you’re in the city.
You have to take a taxi to the other side of the city to make it to your appointment at Yorknew U in time. You send another angry text to your father in the cab, letting him know you’re going to use his credit card for this cab and anything else you want for the rest of the trip if he keeps ignoring you.
The tour of Yorknew U takes nearly two hours, and every step of the way you find yourself having more and more questions. The staff answers everything you ask and seem to be enthusiastic about having you join. They do ask about your father, a soft spot you didn't want touched. They might be more excited about what he would contribute to their university if you decide to go here, but you know that comes with the territory being his daughter.
You leave feeling more excited than when you came, so you decide it’s time to call your father. He doesn’t answer and it goes to voicemail.
“Just got done with the tour of the two schools, not that you seem to care much. I decided I still prefer Yorknew U. and want to go there. I’ll submit my application later today, and I’m going to go get lunch by myself I suppose. I think I’ll go to that place across the street from the hotel. I’ll be there in 20 minutes if you can find time out of your precious day to spend it with me, your daughter.”
Guilt usually works on him. You take to scrolling on your phone for a while before you make it back to the hotel. You change into a sundress since it’s getting warmer now that the rain has stopped and the sun has come out to play this afternoon. The dress is a pretty yellow and white plaid print. You match it with some white sandals and a white tote bag you got at the bookstore near Yorknew U.
The restaurant across from the hotel isn’t as busy as you’d expect, but it’s nearing one and perhaps the lunch rush has died down or maybe it’s not as popular as you imagined. The hostess greets you.
“How many?” She asks.
“Um, two…” hopefully.
She takes you to a booth, sitting you on one side and placing menus on both sides. You thank her and look through the options. This restaurant specializes in pasta, it seems. There’s about a dozen options with lots of different sauces.
You order a soda when the waiter appears, bringing a fresh basket of bread. You decide on the seafood pasta, wondering if it’ll be any good since you’re so close to the coast. You check your phone periodically, getting nervous that you’ll be eating alone. Whatever is holding up your father, it better be damned important.
“Have you decided?” The waiter inquires, placing down a glass with your preferred soda in it.
“Uh, yeah. I want the seafood special for today. I prefer linguine for the pasta and a house salad. Also, I don’t think anyone will be joining me. Sorry about that,” you hand him both menus.
“No need to apologize, ma’am.” He smiles and writes down your order before walking off. “I’ll get this out to you shortly.”
You sigh and lean back into the cushioned booth. It’s not that you’re not used to feeling alone, you do often at home. None of the children growing up liked you since you were the daughter of their parent’s boss. It wasn’t your fault, you knew that, but their families had harder lives than you. Plus, your parents never had any more children, so you learned what it was like to be alone.
This was just a side effect of being who you were.
Perhaps it will change now that you’re outside the village and ready to start school again. Even if you don’t make more than one friend, someone would be preferred to this life of loneliness you seem to be stuck in.
The food arrives and you eat it as quickly as you can without looking impolite or like you’ve never had a proper meal. You leave cash, despite threatening to make your father pay earlier and leave to go sulk in the hotel room. On your way up, a man gets in the elevator with you. You look up from the floor to see it’s Chrollo again.
“We keep running into one another,” he comments and you smile.
“It seems we do.”
“Is something wrong?” He asks, noticing your tone.
“My father keeps blowing me off for work. I’m just irritated.” You admit, looking at your phone again to find no notifications from him.
“He must be busy,” he smiles, and while he’s trying to be assuring it just pisses you off more.
“Too busy for his child, yeah.” You toss your phone in your tote bag and look over to the handsome man you keep meeting. “Why are you in the city?”
“Work,” he says and smiles. “I come and go depending on how things are going.”
“What line of work are you in?”
“This and that,” so he’s secretive. “Let me buy you another drink and you can question me further.”
Something tells you that you shouldn’t. That your father wouldn’t be happy with this. So you decide to agree.
“Can I stop by my room first? I want to put my bag up.”
“Of course,” he walks with you to the door of your suite.
As you open the door, you notice the door to your father’s room is slightly open. So he has been here. You walk over to it, pushing the door open more. Chrollo stays in the middle of your room, his hands in his pockets, looking around the room casually. The room is dark, the curtains must be drawn, so you feel the wall for a light switch. It flips on and your eyes focus on the dangling figure in the middle of the room.
You scream.
Then it’s all black.
You come to when there are fifteen police officers in uniform milling about and questioning you, despite your inability to answer. Chrollo is sitting on the end of the bed beside you, talking to a police officer too.
“When was the last time you heard from your father?” The female officer asks you.
“I don’t know, um, yesterday afternoon,” you get your phone and look through the call log. “He called me at 11. Here,” you hand her your phone and she nods. Writing something down, she places your phone in an evidence bag.
“Was he here this morning?”
“I don’t know. I thought he was. His door was locked, so I can’t be sure. He never showed up for the university tours he scheduled for me.”
“Do you think someone would-”
“Hey, I think she needs a break.” Chrollo interrupts and you look at him with tears in your eyes.
“Thank you.”
“I think we have all we need for now. We’re going to have to lock these rooms down, so please gather your things and book another room for tonight. Do you need anything from us?” The police officer asks and you shrug.
“She will be fine tonight,” Chrollo answers for you and you look back down at the floor.
They clear the room, letting you gather your things. You’re not sure if you’re getting everything, but at this point you do not care. You have your suitcase, a carry on, and then your tote bag you carried in earlier.
“I-I don’t know what to do. I don’t know where I should stay or where it is safe now! What if someone is after me too!”
“Are you certain he wouldn’t have done this himself?” Chrollo asks and you sob again. “I’m taking that as a no. Okay, here’s what we’re going to do: you’re going to come calm down in my suite and then we will take it from there. That’s easy and you’re safe with me, yeah?”
You nod. “Alright,” you wipe the tears from your eyes and follow him to the elevator.
You go up several floors. You lose count after seven, a few sobs choking you and forcing you to breathe harder. How could this have happened? You know he never would have killed himself and left you all alone. There were signs of a struggle in his room, or so Chrollo thought and told the police.
He takes you to his room at the end of the hall. The suite makes yours laughable. It opens up into a large living space with a sectional facing the windows overlooking the city. The sun is setting over the city, illuminating the room in a sunlit glow. The white couch looks peachy from the door, but once you’re sitting on it, you see it is stark white.
Chrollo takes your bags somewhere, but you didn’t see where he went. You assume there’s a bedroom or two in this suite, maybe even three with how large it is. There’s a kitchenette to your right, but the city is what takes your mind off things. If you focus hard enough, you swear you can see people in the buildings across the horizon. Ant-sized people but people nonetheless.
How is it you’re in one of the biggest cities in the country, and you feel like you’re all alone again?
“Would you like some tea?” Chrollo asks, standing in front of you and blocking your view.
You laugh. “My father would have died before ever offering me tea.”
“That’s right, you’re in the coffee business.” You nod, not sure when you told him this. “A cup then? I’ll order room service.”
“Sure,” as he moves from your view, you see the rain is starting again.
After ten minutes the coffee is in front of you on a tray with sugar cubes and cream. You add some cream and stir. Sinking to the floor, you sit in front of the coffee table and sip on the warm rich liquid. With your knees against your chest, you lean your head forward and let yourself rest.
Whatever happened to him, you hope it happened before you sent and left all those awful messages. You don’t want his last memory of you to be him angry with you. However, you won’t know until the coroner report gets back to you in a few days. Hopefully his last memory of you is your last of him.
You hugged him before he left the hotel room yesterday morning, wishing him luck on his way to his meeting with some investors. He said he’d loved you and you loved him too. A tear slides down onto your uncovered knee, and you realize you’re probably revealing your underwear from this position, but you’re too sad to care.
“Thank you, I will let her know.” The sound of Chrollo’s voice lifts your head up. You look to the left and see he’s coming out of another room, perhaps his bedroom. “That was the police station.”
“What did they want?” You remember they took your phone into evidence so you’re grateful he gave them his number.
“They’ve sent your father’s body to be examined. Tomorrow you will need to go in for a round of questioning. I suggest you retain a lawyer-”
“I don’t know how to do that!” You interrupt him mid sentence.
He sighs. “I know a few. Would you like me to call one?” You nod. “Asking for help isn’t hard, you don’t have to snap at me.”
“I’m sorry,” you sigh and look away.
The feeling of his hand on your head makes you look up. He strokes your head a few times and sits on the couch behind you. You lean back between his legs and let him comfort you. You can remember sitting like this between your mother’s legs and feeling safe as she styled your hair for school. Hopefully, he won’t smack you with a hair brush for squirming around too much.
“You’ll be okay. I know this must be hard, and I can’t imagine the grief.” You nod and feel his hand move from your head to your cheek. You close your eyes and lean into it. “You just have to be strong now.” His hand is soft against your cheek.
“I don’t know how to thank you,” you tell him, pulling away and turning to face him. “You’re a stranger and you’re doing so much to help me.”
He smiles and shakes his head. “I don’t mind helping someone in need.”

Earth 2099V
Miguel x black fem reader
Miguel is jealous of his othe self but doesn't quite understand the situation of his other self.
Warning: angst, mentions of abuse not proofread
Miguel never really felt to jealous of his alters most them living normal mundane lives, typically a scientist the odd couple being dentists but they had standard lives. One consist theme in their lives was relationships, whether that be romantic or platonic. A girlfriend who got away, a brother he couldn't protect. A daughter he couldn't have.
Earth 2099V. A Miguel that was living the life! A great job, stunning wife and adorable daughter. His dream life! What sort of joke was this, it was so stupid to feel so bitter and jealous over himself . Petty as it was he closed the 2099V tab he'd push that dimension away, he knew himself how obsessing over another life would ruin him. So out of sight ,out of mind.
Although that didn't work too well, one depressed shitty month later he's staring desperately at the screen,'come on come on' seeing the two of you, your life, he could for a moment imagine it was him. He could go to bed with the thought of you in a cute apron cooking dinner, welcoming him home from a tiring day of dealing with anomalies and spider society, that it's him wrapping his arms around you, resting deeply at the base your neck taking in the praise you give. You'd sooth him, gently rubbing his head praising him for all the hard work he does. God he'd feel so good, so loved. And Gabrielle- your daughter, oh he'd give her all of his time, they'd be a the happest family.
Earth 2099V. But he wasn't met with that, it felt like watching a bad movie, plight filling at his chest, flickering to different screens as if his technology had made some mistake. But no this was it, this was the reality in front of him, a broken home. A broken single mother struggling to manage her teen daughter. An emotional repressed teen who'd recently got bitten by a spider, fuck. That ment they'd run into each soon or later, she'd hate him, he didn't know if he could handle that, the broken look of a girl too young to understand why her father acted like that, too young to comfort or properly protect her mother from her fathers cruel advances.
That bastard. He threw it all away. He had everything (Miguel wanted) and he thew it away like some toy he didn't want anymore. He treated you like a burden when you had done nothing but devote yourself to that bastard!
Miguel was know to coop himself up in his office (lair) wasting the day away observing the multi verse. It fell on to his second in command to perform welfare checks on him. "Miguel, you've been in there for 3 hours straight and no one's heard a word from you" honestly jess was hoping he'd exhausted himself out and finally gotten some rest.
Rabid. That was one word to describe Miguel now. The computer screen glitch in and out from the dents on made by his talons on the keyboard. His form was unruly, hunched and heavy breathing, jess could even hear the grating of his clenched teeth, the man was practically foaming at the mouth. Yeah, no whatever had set him off this bad was not something she could deal with alone, slowly backing up eyes still on Miguel in case a stray item was hurled her way.
"THAT UNGRATEFUL BASTARD! HE RUINED EVERYTHING"
Miguel really couldn't tell what he was more annoyed at the the bastard man who mistreated his family, a family Miguel would have done anything to have or the illusion that the man broke.

What do we know of Dark Gallifrey?
So, yesterday Big finish finally announced a new range titled Dark Gallifrey. The initial reveal left me underwhelmed because it didn't look as Gallifrey-oriented as I'd at first thought, but some of the comments the creators have posted afterwards are making me warm up to the idea.
So, first of all, it's going to be "a brand-new series showcasing the most chaotic, mischievous and evil Time Lords the planet has ever produced" and it consists of 8 different trilogies, each focusing on one these dark children of Gallifrey. The fact that three of those were given to three different incarnations of the Master who all already have their own ranges gave me pause, but it could be alright if the themes and focus is distinct enough.
However, the Monk and the Nun and, more importantly, Morbius (the incarnation played by Samuel West from the 8DAs 16 years ago) also have their own trilogies. Morbius' one is actually the opening act of the series, though we don't know exactly when it's set. But Morbius is always a great character to delve into Gallifreyan lore.
First thing I want to point out is that they chose to use the same Gallifrey logo as the Gallifrey series, so at the very least they think it should be branded the same way. So we don't only have a link through the title choice but also the same visual identity.
Now, even if John Dorney, writer and script editor for the Morbius trilogy, said this:
It’s completely disconnected from regular Gallifrey.
It doesn't have to mean it's disconnected from Gallifrey the planet, and its history, which, for me, is the most important part, just that it's disconnected from the main cast of the series: Romana, Leela, Narvin and Braxiatel.
So let's see what the other creatives are saying. Rob Valentine, who serves as producer for the series, had this to say:
Dark Gallifrey is a sprawling, multi-story event in which all the most dastardly Time Lords are being let out of the box in various unexpected ways. [...] ...and, behind it all, something massive is brewing.
That means there's some overarching theme or threat in the shadows, probably to be resolved in the last trilogy. What I think is that, more likely than not, it's not going to be a big crossover kind of deal. Maybe some characters and even a couple of the trilogy protagonists are going to be there, but, from what is know, I surmise that we'll be looking at a... Rassilon? trilogy which ties together things that have been set up during the others, but we won't know they have been until we have all the pieces. Let me explain.
Firstly, and something which I really like the sound of, from the Big Finish Talk Back panel at Gally1, they want to do more experimental stories and Dark Gallifrey is part of that.
Dorney, again, said that these are:
Writer led concept albums full of bold creativity. [...] these are not your standard stories.
Whereas Scott Handcock, director and script editor for the War Master trilogy, teased that there are "baffling surprises" and that he doesn't know how his trilogy pieces together with the other ones.
I do like that this range seems to be based on allowing the creators freedom to tell the story they want to tell, so they can experiment with the storylelling and the format. Valentine also says there are all sorts of stories, from darker ones to some that are more comic. But, while Handcock seems to confirm he wasn't privy to all the plans for the range, I read that as implying he did know there was something that linked the trilogies together, but that due to his involvement being with just this trilogy in particular, he didn't need to know every detail.
Still, one last piece of information from Dorney, tells me it's particularly not necessary for the individual creators to know how it all pieces together (if the producers did a good job in keeping tabs):
Just to repeat what I said on the panel this series is influenced by things like Alan Ayckbourn’s Norman Conquests, the old Transformers comic strip Aspects of Evil and Chris Ware’s magnificent Building Stories. [...] it inspired the entire series.
All of these have one particularity in common: they're stories that build a bigger tapestry if put together, with multiple layers of storytelling. But they still work as your basic anthology.
But why do I think it'll all come together with a Rassilon story? Well, for that let's go to writer Tim Foley's blogpost with some visual clues. All the pictures are really interesting, but two in particular piqued my interest. (Btw, Foley seems to have worked at least on the Morbius trilogy with Dorney.)
The first illustration comes from the DWM story The Tides of Time. This story features Rassilon (actually his first appearance in any medium) and the Matrix, as well as the Higher Evolutionaries, a group of ancient and powerful time-aware beings. Basically, they're to Gallifrey's Temporal Powers what Division sorta is to the CIA.
The other image is a rendition by Daryl Joyce of Ancient Gallifrey, from the Lungbarrow ebook. You all know what kinds of implications this has. I really hope we take a long overdue trip to other episodes in Gallifrey's History. This is what I'm expecting (hoping) from this series and, in a way, the Fugitive Doctor's one.
Will we have references and nods to other stories that built on the mythology and history of Gallifrey (and not just those two, Morbius being a main character has the potential to link with some more obscure things)? I don't know but I hope so.
I think that's all the information we have. I don't even really know what I want to say with this post, just wanted to collect all this somewhere, and I guess speculate a bit there at the end.
I really hope this series ends up being as special as it promises.

Brain juices go brrrr
I've always wanted to make like a list of all the fics I've got in the works, like in a public space like this where I can openly keep tabs on my progress and where everything is at and just how much brain juices I'm shaking everywhere without looking, because I want to be more open about what I'm up to, so uuuuh yeah this is gonna be it
In no particular order of importance, I present you with the inner machinations of my mind, a WIP
Scattering Embers: My current fixation; SE is a three part multi-chaptered fic, for an AU I call the Demon Hunter AU, each part separated by a time skip; Ignition, taking place in canon present, Combustion, taking place five years later, and Incandescence, another five years later. It's got Rin/Shiemi and Yukio/Bon all over it, and it's told from all of their POVs, plus Shiro's, in a format where one chapter is divided in five sub-chapters, one for each POVs.
Ignition is where it starts, in which I take a spin on the whole "Rin gets his heart unsealed at the start of the story" trope and have both him and Yukio go on the run while they're actively being pursued by the Order, while Shiemi and Ryuji both deal with the repercussions on their end, and things escalate until it's out of everyone's hands. As of writing this, this part is finished with the first draft! I just need to proofread, finish the illustrations (because yes I illustrate my fics lol) and I can post it when it's ready.
Combustion and Incandescence aren't started yet, but they are outlined and next on the list for SE.

Icebound Hellfire: Tis the sequel to Phosphorous Snowfall! PS ended on a good note where I'd be satisfied if I didn't get to continue it, but I do still have ideas for this AU, because it's near and dear to my heart, so I'll keep it in here even if I haven't really started it.
This fic is my spin on the Demon Prince Rin trope, with a focus on Rin and Yukio's relationship and the two of them growing closer despite not knowing that they're brothers. The story is all about the desire to keep living, and doing all that one can to live life to the fullest and understand all that there is to understand about one's humanity and place in the world.

Ballad of Shemihaza: My second current fixation; a LoZ/AoEx crossover! In this one I basically retell the story of Skyward Sword with a complete AoEx-themed makeover, so it's not a word-for-word retelling. Rin/Shiemi, Yuri/Shiro, and a dash of Yukio/Ryuji but mostly platonic.
The people of Assiah have been living in the skies in peace for generations, protected by the grace of their goddess Shemihaza, and the force of their order of Knights defending their civilization from demons. Rin is on his way to becoming a Knight of his own, but to achieve that he must pass a test and compete with the other Exwires for the title, but even that is a test on its own, because no one really believes that he can do it. This day is bittersweet for him and his family; on that day, ten years back, his and his twin's father Shiro fell below the clouds during a storm, and to this day this event still haunts them, and is the reason why Rin wants to become a Knight; to protect his family, and his best friend, Shiemi, who is the only one to give the twins a chance despite their questionable lineage. And yet, on this day, a terrible cataclysm would soon strike the peaceful lives of the people of the skies, and force them to look down at the realm hidden beneath the clouds, for the first time... As of writing this, I am currently still in the first arc, but making steady progress!

Okumura Yukio's Field Guide to Taming a Demon: This one is my own spin on the Feral Demon!Rin trope! Entirely Rin and Yukio focussed, from Yukio's POV. It's got established background Yukio/Ryuji, and a looot of Yukio and Rin brotherly fluff.
This story is all about Yukio finding out that, after his mother died over twenty years ago, his adoptive father made the choice of abandoning the demon child she carried, while saving him instead, thus revealing that he's had a brother he never knew about, and he might just be long dead. He is outraged, and in a fit of anger and grief tells his father never to speak to him ever again, and vanishes for three years... Until Shiro one day receives an envelope from his son, with nothing more than a USB drive inside. Yukio has compiled all of his field notes into videos and logs, that he has forwarded to his father, in his quest to figure out what happened to his lost brother after all these years... As of now, this story is entirely outlined, planned, and is being written with slow progress, but it's happening!

Dear Prince, Dear Dragon: Not quite a fic, but a fancomic series! I plan on hosting this one here on Tumblr because the format is perfect for it; it'll be a bunch of many small chapters, to keep it easy to follow. Yukio/Ryuji, Rin/Shiemi, and a dash of Yuri/Shiro. Arranged marriage AU!
This story is set in a kingdoms kind of setting, with Assiah and Gehenna being different kingdoms, and with Gehenna being the all-consuming country trying to absorb everything into itself with wars and conflict. One day, while Yukio and Shiemi are conducting research in the princes' personal quarters, Yukio gets called in by his father the King to attend a meeting with a delegation from Assiah, much to his surprise - because his father has practically forgotten about his existence. However, his curiosity soon turns to horror when he realizes what his father is doing; he is selling him off to another family, as a pact of peace between their warring countries! Without a word to say against it, Yukio is now set to marry the heir of the Suguro family, who just so happens to have a deep hatred for his kind, and he realizes just how screwed he is... As of writing this, I've got the story outlined, and I've already started working on a buffer of chapters; it will be in a sketch style, so I'm not too overwhelmed when I have to work on my original webcomics at the same time. I'm very excited about this one, ngl!

Searing Bite: This one's a Vampire AU! I sadly haven't made much progress on this one outside of exploring it via artworks, but this exploring does keep it fresh in my mind, so it still exists. Rin/Shiemi and Shiro/Yuri, so far at least.
Seven years ago, the Okumura family vanished from sight after a terrible disaster struck their family, when a demon came to town and, in an act of revenge, killed their eldest son, Rin. Shiemi, who was betrothed to Rin and set to marry before he was taken from her, was left alone with only the memory of what took place, and so went on to True Cross Academy to study demons and exorcism, until she one day stumbled upon Yuri, the matriarch of the Okumuras, and promptly started a correspondence with her. One day, Yuri invites her to come work for her at their current estate, up on a lonely mountain, with her skills as an herborist, and of course Shiemi accepts. She has no idea, however, what she's about to find on that mountain, and in that old estate... I have at least started writing this one; still in the first chapter, but hey, a start is a start!

Under Scorching Waters: Pirate AU! Same as above, not much progress, but I draw a lot for this AU so progress is progress lol Rin/Shiemi and Shiro/Yuri planned for it so far, as always.
One day when she was young, the little mistress of Futsumaya Temple walked out on the beach, followed closely by her chaperone Ryuji, who urged her to come back inside for the bay was foggy and in the air lingered the smell of smoke. Debris floated in the bay, all telling a story in their silence and stillness... until they spotted a young boy, washed ashore and unconscious. Naked, his only possession was a sword, to which he was clinging like his life depended on it. When he stirred awake, he introduced himself as Yukio Okumura, and Shiemi told him he would be safe with them... But the sword he was clinging to was a demon sword, and she quickly found that out, but decided to keep it secret, all the while wondering where this young boy could have come from...

Unnamed Villain!Rin Fic: The title speaks for itself lol It's a Villain!Rin AU! In which Rin is a villain working for the Illuminati! Not much actually started on this one so I'll keep the actual plot hush hush for now, but I am working on it in my head and in artworks, so there you go. That's all you get on this one.

The Beast Inside: A LoZ fic! So, many years ago, when I was a wee lass, I wrote a Twilight Princess fic on FFN with the same name, got to right before the last chapter, and never finished it because I never planned out the ending lol I am here now to fix that, and so I have outlined this entire fic, with a better story, better writing, and actual planning. It's actually gonna be readable this time, surprised pikachu face.
Several years after the events of TP, Link hasn't yet retrieved a sense of normalcy in his life, and can't quite get back to being who he was before all of it. He sneaks out in secret, under the guise of just taking walks by himself with his horse, and secretly uses what remains of the shadow crystal Midna had left behind all those years ago to transform back into a beast, and experience one last time what the thrill was like, to feel something before its power completely depletes. However, his delight is cut short when he makes an unfortunate encounter in the woods, with a group of Goron merchants who mistake him for a beast trying to eat a horse and its rider, and in taking a beating from them, the shadow crystal breaks, and one of the shards gets imbedded into his shoulder. When he wakes up, he's still a beast, the rest of the shards are missing, and so is Epona, and he has to do something... before he gets stuck like this forever... As of writing this, the fic is entirely outlined, but not yet started.

That's all the juices I got for now, I'll make updates in the replies whenever I got some, and add links to fics whenever I get to upload them! This is my life now lol

Hell yeah. Let’s roll straight into:
Episode 4 – “Mandatory Mindfulness Training”
Series: The Office of Himself: Adjacent to Limbo
Theme: A new corporate initiative brings in a cosmic mindfulness guru... who may be siphoning everyone’s emotional energy to power a multi-planar feedback loop.
Fourth Wall Content: Parody of corporate wellness culture, LinkedIn influencers, and “quiet quitting.”
COLD OPEN
(The entire office is gathered in a circle, cross-legged, eyes closed. A being made of soothing mist and passive-aggressive affirmations floats above them.)
GURU VIBE:
“Let’s start by releasing the trauma of your last status meeting. Breathe in… now scream into the void.”
(Everyone screams. The void screams back. Kevin opens one eye.)
KEVIN:
“That was… validating?”
ACT 1
SCENE 1 – The Wellness Rollout
(New signs are everywhere: “Realize Your Cosmic Potential!” / “Mental Health is Mandatory Now.”)
HIMSELF (to camera):
“They made peace of mind a performance metric. I haven’t felt this micro-managed since the department head became a sentient spreadsheet.”
JANICE:
“I’m not letting some astral LinkedIn guru tell me I can’t feel rage before 9 a.m.”
(Cut to Janice trying to meditate. Her aura punches a hole in the wall.)
SCENE 2 – The “Safe” Room
(They’re forced into one-on-one sessions in a glowing room that reacts to emotions. Kevin cries—room starts raining iced coffee. Janice tries to lie—room fills with glitter until she confesses she’s been hexing the breakroom fridge.)
GURU VIBE:
“Let go of your earthly attachments.”
KEVIN:
“…Does that include my parking validation?”
SCENE 3 – Vibe Audit
(Everyone gets vibe scores. The printer prints shame-cards like “Your chakra smells like reheated lasagna.” A spreadsheet begins auto-firing anyone with low ‘glow metrics.’)
HIMSELF:
“Casual Friday was the distraction. This is the takeover. We’re being spiritually optimized out of our own narrative.”
(He peels back a poster—it hides a reality-siphoning rune pulsing like a heartbeat.)
ACT 2
SCENE 1 – Revolt of the Low Vibe Crew
(Kevin, Janice, Himself, and the Intern form a ragtag resistance group: “The Offbeat.” They meet in a storage closet surrounded by emotionally unstable office plants.)
INTERN (telepathically):
“If the vibe is weaponized, we counter with pure chaos.”
JANICE:
“I’m already dressed like a mood swing. Let’s go.”
SCENE 2 – Intervention via Reverse Meditation
(The Offbeat hosts a counter-mindfulness session: doomscrolling, rage dance therapy, and opening old emotional tabs from middle school. The room overloads.)
GURU VIBE (cracking):
“No! You’re supposed to harmonize your wounds, not… duet them!”
HIMSELF:
“Your business model was built on denial. We offer raw, uncut coping mechanisms.”
SCENE 3 – Collapse and Revelation
(Guru Vibe explodes into a thousand self-help books. The feedback loop shatters, freeing everyone’s bottled emotions. The room floods with laughter, screams, and TikTok audios.)
HIMSELF (to camera):
“Mindfulness is cool. Weaponized peace to hide broken systems? That’s just gaslight-flavored incense.”
ENDING
(Office returns to chaos normal. A new sign goes up: “Feel Whatever, Just Clock In.” Kevin eats a cookie and cries openly.)
HIMSELF:
“I give it a week before they try ‘motivational bloodletting.’”
TITLE CARD:
Next time on The Office of Himself: There’s a birthday cake in the break room… and it’s sentient.
Want that next one with the cursed birthday cake and the HR summoning circle? Or maybe you want to compile these into an animated pitch bible next?

Step Into the TARDIS: The Doctor Who “Just Wibbly Wobbly Timey Wimey It” Nike Air Force 1
Where Timeless Sci-Fi Meets Timeless Style
Time and space just got a whole lot cooler. The Doctor Who “Just Wibbly Wobbly Timey Wimey It” Nike Air Force 1 is a galactic fusion of classic sneaker culture and the most beloved science-fiction legacy on television. This isn’t merely a themed shoe—it’s a statement piece for Whovians and sneakerheads alike, transporting you straight into the Whoniverse with every step.
Much like the Doctor’s TARDIS—bigger on the inside—these sneakers contain layers of meaning, aesthetic, and nostalgia. You don’t just wear them… you travel in them. They're a tribute to chaos, curiosity, and cosmic adventures—wrapped in one of Nike’s most iconic silhouettes.
Design That Defies Dimensions
What sets this sneaker apart is its artistic integrity and narrative coherence. Every detail is intentionally placed to echo the whimsy, mystery, and cleverness of Doctor Who.
The upper is a dreamy swirl of cosmic blues and starry blacks, blending like a nebula spiraling through time. The signature white Nike swoosh slices across the canvas like a vortex cut into space itself, perfectly integrated into the artwork without overshadowing the theme.
Flanking the outer side of each shoe is a beautifully rendered sonic screwdriver, one of the Doctor’s most iconic tools. Stylized with a touch of cartoonish flair yet grounded in realism, it offers the perfect balance of tribute and visual impact.
And then comes the standout feature—the quote that’s instantly recognizable to any Doctor Who fan: “JUST WIBBLY WOBBLY TIMEY WIMEY IT”
This phrase, immortalized by the Tenth Doctor (David Tennant), is more than just a quote—it’s an attitude. A love letter to the paradoxes and poetic madness that make Doctor Who what it is. Placed boldly along the lower panel in a playful, multi-tone font, it gives the shoe a personality that’s both quirky and daring.
Easter Eggs for the True Fan
The sneaker rewards the observant. Nestled in the heel tab is the DW logo cleverly shaped into a TARDIS, giving a nod to long-time fans who recognize it from intros and merchandise. The silhouette of the TARDIS itself appears on the opposite side panel, fading into the galactic background like a ship emerging from the time vortex.
On the tongue, a starry patch features the full Doctor Who wordmark, cementing its official status. And for that personal touch, the letters “DT” (Doctor Time?) are discreetly printed on the back heel—small, but impactful. It gives the impression that you’re wearing a pair of kicks forged on Gallifrey, and approved by the Time Lords themselves.
Built for the Streets, Designed for the Stars
Beneath the aesthetic brilliance lies the reliable engineering of a Nike Air Force 1. Renowned for comfort and durability, the sole is thick, supportive, and built for everything from urban adventures to convention hopping.
The color scheme—though galactic—is surprisingly versatile. These sneakers pair easily with both dark and light outfits, making them cosplay-ready or streetwear-staple depending on your vibe. Whether you’re on your way to a midnight screening or just making your morning commute feel like a journey through time and space, these shoes have your back.
They are, quite literally, future-proof fashion.
A Love Letter to Every Regeneration
What’s truly special about the “Wibbly Wobbly Timey Wimey It” edition is that it doesn’t tie itself to a single Doctor. Instead, it captures the essence of the show as a whole—a collage of humor, wonder, intellect, and boundless imagination.
These sneakers aren’t here to pick a favorite Doctor. They’re here to say: You don’t have to understand time to enjoy the ride.
And that, in many ways, is the magic of Doctor Who. It’s about adventure, discovery, reinvention—and this sneaker is the perfect visual metaphor for that journey. It doesn’t care where you start, only that you believe in something bigger, wilder, and more beautiful than what you see.
Conclusion: Allons-y in Style
The Doctor Who “Just Wibbly Wobbly Timey Wimey It” Nike Air Force 1 is not just a shoe—it’s a conversation starter, a collector’s dream, and a tribute to timeless storytelling. It’s built for fans who want to wear their fandom boldly, with style and substance.
Whether you’re a fan of the Tenth Doctor’s clever charm, the Eleventh’s bow-tied enthusiasm, or the Fourteenth’s stormy resolve, this sneaker transcends timelines and brings it all together under one lace-tightening moment of brilliance.
So lace up. Step out. And let the universe know… you’ve arrived.

Towards LoRAs That Can Survive Model Version Upgrades
New Post has been published on https://thedigitalinsider.com/towards-loras-that-can-survive-model-version-upgrades/
Towards LoRAs That Can Survive Model Version Upgrades
Since my recent coverage of the growth in hobbyist Hunyuan Video LoRAs (small, trained files that can inject custom personalities into multi-billion parameter text-to-video and image-to-video foundation models), the number of related LoRAs available at the Civit community has risen by 185%.
Despite the fact that there are no particularly easy or low-effort ways to make a Hunyuan Video LoRA, the catalog of celebrity and themed LoRAs at Civit is growing daily. Source: https://civitai.com/
The same community that is scrambling to learn how to produce these ‘add-on personalities’ for Hunyuan Video (HV) is also ulcerating for the promised release of an image-to-video (I2V) functionality in Hunyuan Video.
With regard to open source human image synthesis, this is a big deal; combined with the growth of Hunyuan LoRAs, it could enable users to transform photos of people into videos in a way that doesn’t erode their identity as the video develops – which is currently the case in all state-of-the-art image-to-video generators, including Kling, Kaiber, and the much-celebrated RunwayML:
Click to play. An image-to-video generation from RunwayML’s state-of-the-art Gen 3 Turbo model. However, in common with all similar and lesser rival models, it cannot maintain consistent identity when the subject turns away from the camera, and the distinct features of the starting image become a ‘generic diffusion woman’. Source: https://app.runwayml.com/
By developing a custom LoRA for the personality in question, one could, in a HV I2V workflow, use a real photo of them as a starting point. This is a far better ‘seed’ than sending a random number into the model’s latent space and settling for whatever semantic scenario results. One could then use the LoRA, or multiple LoRAs, to maintain consistency of identity, hairstyles, clothing and other pivotal aspects of a generation.
Potentially, the availability of such a combination could represent one of the most epochal shifts in generative AI since the launch of Stable Diffusion, with formidable generative power handed over to open source enthusiasts, without the regulation (or ‘gatekeeping’, if you prefer) provided by the content censors in the current crop of popular gen vid systems.
As I write, Hunyuan image-to-video is an unticked ‘to do’ in the Hunyuan Video GitHub repo, with the hobbyist community reporting (anecdotally) a Discord comment from a Hunyuan developer, who apparently stated that the release of this functionality has been pushed back to some time later in Q1 due to the model being ‘too uncensored’.
The official feature release checklist for Hunyuan Video. Source: https://github.com/Tencent/HunyuanVideo?tab=readme-ov-file#-open-source-plan
Accurate or not, the repo developers have substantially delivered on the rest of the Hunyuan checklist, and therefore Hunyuan I2V seems set to arrive eventually, whether censored, uncensored or in some way ‘unlockable’.
But as we can see in the list above, the I2V release is apparently a separate model entirely – which makes it pretty unlikely that any of the current burgeoning crop of HV LoRAs at Civit and elsewhere will function with it.
In this (by now) predictable scenario, LoRA training frameworks such as Musubi Tuner and OneTrainer will either be set back or reset in regard to supporting the new model. Meantime, one or two of the most tech-savvy (and entrepreneurial) YouTube AI luminaries will ransom their solutions via Patreon until the scene catches up.
Upgrade Fatigue
Almost no-one experiences upgrade fatigue as much as a LoRA or fine-tuning enthusiast, because the rapid and competitive pace of change in generative AI encourages model foundries such as Stability.ai, Tencent and Black Forest Labs to produce bigger and (sometimes) better models at the maximum viable frequency.
Since these new-and-improved models will at the very least have different biases and weights, and more commonly will have a different scale and/or architecture, this means that the fine-tuning community has to get their datasets out again and repeat the grueling training process for the new version.
For this reason, a multiplicity of Stable Diffusion LoRA version types are available at Civit:
The upgrade trail, visualized in search filter options at civit.ai
Since none of these lightweight LoRA models are interoperable with higher or lower model versions, and since many of them have dependencies on popular large-scale merges and fine-tunes that adhere to an older model, a significant portion of the community tends to stick with a ‘legacy’ release, in much the same way as customer loyalty to Windows XP persisted years after official past support ended.
Adapting to Change
This subject comes to mind because of a new paper from Qualcomm AI Research that claims to have developed a method whereby existing LoRAs can be ‘upgraded’ to a newly-released model version.
Example conversion of LoRAs across model versions. Source: https://arxiv.org/pdf/2501.16559
This does not mean that the new approach, titled LoRA-X, can translate freely between all models of the same type (i.e., text to image models, or Large Language Models [LLMs]); but the authors have demonstrated an effective transliteration of a LoRA from Stable Diffusion v1.5 > SDXL, and a conversion of a LoRA for the text-based TinyLlama 3T model to TinyLlama 2.5T.
LoRA-X transfers LoRA parameters across different base models by preserving the adapter within the source model’s subspace; but only in parts of the model that are adequately similar across model versions.
On the left, a schema for the way that the LoRA-X source model fine-tunes an adapter, which is then adjusted to fit the target model. On the right, images generated by target models SD Eff-v1.0 and SSD-1B, after applying adapters transferred from SD-v1.5 and SDXL without additional training.
While this offers a practical solution for scenarios where retraining is undesirable or impossible (such as a change of license on the original training data), the method is restricted to similar model architectures, among other limitations.
Though this is a rare foray into an understudied field, we won’t examine this paper in depth because of LoRA-X’s numerous shortcomings, as evidenced by comments from its critics and advisors at Open Review.
The method’s reliance on subspace similarity restricts its application to closely related models, and the authors have conceded in the review forum that LoRA-X cannot be easily transferred across significantly different architectures
Other PEFT Approaches
The possibility of making LoRAs more portable across versions is a small but interesting strand of study in the literature, and the main contribution that LoRA-X makes to this pursuit is its contention that it requires no training. This is not strictly true, if one reads the paper, but it does require the least training of all the prior methods.
LoRA-X is another entry in the canon of Parameter-Efficient Fine-Tuning (PEFT) methods, which address the challenge of adapting large pre-trained models to specific tasks without extensive retraining. This conceptual approach aims to modify a minimal number of parameters while maintaining performance.
Notable among these are:
X-Adapter
The X-Adapter framework transfers fine-tuned adapters across models with a certain amount of retraining. The system aims to enable pre-trained plug-and-play modules (such as ControlNet and LoRA) from a base diffusion model (i.e., Stable Diffusion v1.5) to work directly with an upgraded diffusion model such as SDXL without retraining – effectively acting as a ‘universal upgrader’ for plugins.
The system achieves this by training an additional network that controls the upgraded model, using a frozen copy of the base model to preserve plugin connectors:
Schema for X-Adapter. Source: https://arxiv.org/pdf/2312.02238
X-Adapter was originally developed and tested to transfer adapters from SD1.5 to SDXL, while LoRA-X offers a wider variety of transliterations.
DoRA (Weight-Decomposed Low-Rank Adaptation)
DoRA is an enhanced fine-tuning method that improves upon LoRA by using a weight decomposition strategy that more closely resembles full fine-tuning:
DORA does not just attempt to copy over an adapter in a frozen environment, as LoRA-X does, but instead changes fundamental parameters of the weights, such as magnitude and direction. Source: https://arxiv.org/pdf/2402.09353
DoRA focuses on improving the fine-tuning process itself, by decomposing the model’s weights into magnitude and direction (see image above). Instead, LoRA-X focuses on enabling the transfer of existing fine-tuned parameters between different base models
However, the LoRA-X approach adapts the projection techniques developed for DORA, and in tests against this older system claims an improved DINO score.
FouRA (Fourier Low Rank Adaptation)
Published in June of 2024, the FouRA method comes, like LoRA-X, from Qualcomm AI Research, and even shares some of its testing prompts and themes.
Examples of distribution collapse in LoRA, from the 2024 FouRA paper, using the Realistic Vision 3.0 model trained with LoRA and FouRA for ‘Blue Fire’ and ‘Origami’ style adapters, across four seeds. LoRA images exhibit distribution collapse and reduced diversity, whereas FouRA generates more varied outputs. Source: https://arxiv.org/pdf/2406.08798
FouRA focuses on improving the diversity and quality of generated images by adapting LoRA in the frequency domain, using a Fourier transform approach.
Here, again, LoRA-X was able to achieve better results than the Fourier-based approach of FouRA.
Though both frameworks fall within the PEFT category, they have very different use cases and approaches; in this case, FouRA is arguably ‘making up the numbers’ for a testing round with limited like-for-like rivals for the new paper’s authors engage with.
SVDiff
SVDiff also has different goals to LoRA-X, but is strongly leveraged in the new paper. SVDiff is designed to improve the efficiency of the fine-tuning of diffusion models, and directly modifies values within the model’s weight matrices, while keeping the singular vectors unchanged. SVDiff uses truncated SVD, modifying only the largest values, to adjust the model’s weights.
This approach uses a data augmentation technique called Cut-Mix-Unmix:
Multi-subject generation operates as a concept-isolating system in SVDiff. Source: https://arxiv.org/pdf/2303.11305
Cut-Mix-Unmix is designed to help the diffusion model learn multiple distinct concepts without intermingling them. The central idea is to take images of different subjects and concatenate them into a single image. Then the model is trained with prompts that explicitly describe the separate elements in the image. This forces the model to recognize and preserve distinct concepts instead of blending them.
During training, an additional regularization term helps prevent cross-subject interference. The authors’ theory contends that this facilitates improved multi-subject generation, where each element remains visually distinct, rather than being fused together.
SVDiff, excluded from the LoRA-X testing round, aims to create a compact parameter space. LoRA-X, instead, focuses on the transferability of LoRA parameters across different base models by operating within the subspace of the original model.
Conclusion
The methods discussed here are not the sole denizens of PEFT. Others include QLoRA and QA-LoRA; Prefix Tuning; Prompt-Tuning; and adapter-tuning, among others.
The ‘upgradable LoRA’ is, perhaps, an alchemical pursuit; certainly, there’s nothing immediately on the horizon that will prevent LoRA modelers from having to drag out their old datasets again for the latest and greatest weights release. If there is some possible prototype standard for weights revision, capable of surviving changes in architecture and ballooning parameters between model versions, it hasn’t emerged in the literature yet, and will need to keep being extracted from the data on a per-model basis.

6, 9, 11, 23, 24!
Ahhh, thanks Jade! <3
6. Are there any fics from others you reread all the time?
Oh, so many. I reread Fernwithy's "End of the World" series every few months; everything clothonono writes is brilliant but "The One With All The Birds" is a permanent open tab on my phone (the Elwing fic of all time, I love it so much); and I'm a perpetual lurker on dwellingondream's ASOIAF fics. I'm also currently doing a reread of "Another Life" by LullabyKnell, one of my favourite Star Trek fics. And of course, "I've walked a fragile line and I've fallen down" pretty much singlehandedly changed my brain chemistry and made me appreciate Lapin in a whole new way, so that's a good yearly reread <3
9. Do you write every day? If you wrote today, share a sentence of what you've written!
I try to! Here's one of the sentences I wrote for "The Ones Who Walk Away From Avalir" for the 24 hour poll :)
“Don’t do it,” says a voice that might once have been familiar. “I know you’re still in there somewhere. It’s not too late. You can come back. You can always come back.”
11. Do you have specific playlists for writing fics?
I don't normally make fic playlists, but I do have one old playlist back when "stone by stone" (Theo/Cumulous fake courtship fic) was combined with "On the Raising of Chickens" (sequel to "On the Composition of Clouds"). I should probably redo it now because there are way too many on-the-nose songs from the 80s - Air Supply features heavily which is all I'll have to say on that.
23. How do you choose where to end a chapter (if you have multi-chapter works)?
I haven't written a multi-chapter work in a while, but it so happens that I recently decided to turn "On the Raising of Chickens" into a multichapter work instead of a mammoth one-shot. For that fic, I think I create chapters around central themes or scene actions. I'll have a primary motif or conversation that the scene centres on; once it's sufficiently explored or comes naturally to an end, I'll move on to the next chapter.
For example, Act I of "On the Raising of Chickens" is focused on different facets of Cumulous' identity, so the themes of the chapters go something like monk -> cousin -> warrior -> Rocks -> outsider. Each of these facets explores a character conceit, which in Act I centre on the question of what Cumulous values, so the motifs for each facet/chapter are philosophy -> family relationships -> pride -> what does it mean to be a Rocks -> self-reflective transition into Act II.
24. Share a moodboard for (one of) your current WIP(s).
I've never actually made a moodboard, but maybe I should start!

Smart Devices in Education: Galaxy Tab S9 Tips

5 Galaxy Tab S9 Tips to Boost Productivity for Back to School
Student life is exciting but demanding. Schoolwork, social plans, and extracurricular activities all require continual juggling. With Samsung’s new Galaxy Tab S9 series, you can work on large school assignments even when you’re not in the classroom or at home since it combines the mobility of a tablet with the strong capabilities of a laptop.
Here are five ways the Tab S9 may help you get things done from dawn to night. Its adaptable structure, strong features, and applications make it a surprise productivity powerhouse, no matter what job you’re confronted with during your day.
Easily Plan Your Day
A dynamic planner is the best buddy of the busy student. You may create a “to-do” list and organise your day with the Galaxy Tab S9 series. You may plan the day by simply supporting the Tab S9 vertically or horizontally with the detachable Smart Book Cover1. For the first time ever on Android, the popular GoodNotes app is available on the Tab S9, offering a completely new scheduling experience.
Students who utilise GoodNotes2 may keep organised in their own unique ways by using pre-made templates and the recently released S Pen Creator Edition3. Additionally, you may transport it all in a portable, lightweight gadget.
Like a Pro, multitask
Student life might feel chaotic with all the preparation for classes, scheduling of study sessions, and scheduling of social activities. You can stay on top of everything with the Galaxy Tab S9 without missing a beat. Multi Window4 allows you to open and work in numerous windows at once for optimal efficiency. You may prepare a presentation while working on Google Meet5 with a classmate and sketch down your most recent idea in a different Samsung Notes page. You can even attach the Book Cover Keyboard for simpler mouse trackpad navigation and utilise simple swipe motions to switch between programmes for effective, quick multitasking.
Raise Your Note-Taking Game
It might be noisy and distracting to type on a laptop while taking notes in class. Additionally, while taking notes by hand on paper might increase engagement, it also makes it harder to naturally participate in conversation with peers. The best of both worlds may be had by using your Galaxy Tab S9 as a digital notepad, and this is made even more possible with the attachable NotePaper Screen, which makes writing on a tablet the closest thing to writing on paper you can get. During class, you can take down ideas and important details in Samsung Notes using your S Pen.
Later, you can sync your Tab S9 with the Microsoft OneNote feed to keep everything in one location. In addition to making it simple to collaborate with others in real-time via a shared online document, this also lets you search for phrases and themes to find precise information.
Transform the Tab into a Completely Usable Laptop
Carrying a laptop around campus is not necessary to be productive during the day. With the Galaxy Tab S9 and its attachments, you can leave your laptop at home and work at your favourite coffee shop, study in the park, or go on a brief weekend getaway while still having access to all of its features. To rapidly simulate the appearance and feel of a PC, simply connect your Tab S9 to your Book Cover Keyboard Slim and activate DeX Mode6. Your whole collection of Microsoft applications will be accessible, making it simple to quickly edit a Word document, PowerPoint presentation, or Excel spreadsheet while you’re working.
And the quickly attachable Privacy Screen can make sure that only you can view the screen while you’re working to keep prying eyes away in public locations.
A Seamless Second Screen Can Increase Your Workspace
Sometimes you need more than one screen while you’re at home and prepared to focus on your assignments. The Galaxy Tab S9 is a quick and practical tool when you need to see many files and windows at once and work more productively since it integrates smoothly with different operating systems and apps. Utilise 1-click Second Screen7 to quickly connect your PC and tablet and set up two monitors in Extended or Duplicated modes.
You can even drag and drop text and photos between your Galaxy devices when using Multi Control8. You may do more in less time by pulling up a recent photo from your smartphone’s Gallery app and pasting it into Samsung Notes on your Tab S9 or a presentation on your PC thanks to the flexibility to use the Galaxy ecosystem.
The Galaxy Tab S9 is made for the always-connected, always-on-the-go student of today. The Galaxy Tab S9 is the ideal productivity partner whether you’re studying graphic art and need to be able to sketch up ideas whenever and wherever inspiration strikes, or you’re an aspiring structural engineer who needs to pull up project renderings both inside and outside of the classroom.
